BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE ON A 2001 CAMRY, ABS COMPLETELY FAILS WHEN TRAVELING OVER SHARP BUMPS IN THE ROAD. SPECIFICALLY WHEN ABS ACTIVATES. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 60 MPH, THE HEADLIGHTS DIMMED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S VISIBILITY WAS DIMINISHED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC TWICE. THE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE HEAD LIGHT ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,000.
TOYOTA SOLARA 2001 HAD TO HAVE BRAKE VACUUM ASSIST PART REPLACED. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. WAS TOLD THAT THIS WOULD CAUSE HARM TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND EVENTUALLY MAY STOP ON HIGHWAY. CAR ONLY HAS 60,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS EXCELLENT CARE. WAS TOLD BY DEALER THAT TOYOTA HAD RECALL OF THIS PART FOR THEIR COROLLAS FOR THAT YEAR, BUT NOT THE SOLARA. THIS COST ME $800 AND COULD HAVE RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO CATALYTIC CONVERTER. TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE TO ISSUE A RECALL FOR ALL THE VACUUM ASSIST DRUMS FOR THAT YEAR SINCE THE PART IS THE SAME FOR ANY MODEL. *JB
MY 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY 'S GAS PEDAL STICKS. WHEN AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN WHEN IT IS TIME TO GO I PUSH DOWN AND THE PEDAL WONT MOVE . THEN IT UNSTICKS AND SHOOTS FORWARD. IT EVEN ACCELERATED ONCE. THROUGH THE YEARS I MENTIONED IT TO MECHANICS AND THEY THINK I'M CRAZY. WHEN THE TOYOTA RECALLS STARTED I CALLED MY DEALER AND HE SAID THE RECALLS DON'T PERTAIN TO 2001 TOYOTA CAMRYS. *TR
DT: THE CONTACT STATES SHE RECEIVED A CARFAX REPORT THAT STATED THE FOLLOWING COULD HAPPEN. "THE FRONT FRAME ASSEMBLY HAS NOT BEEN ADEQUATELY WELDED. FUEL THROTTLE LINKAGE AND CONTROL; THE ACCELERATOR CABLE HOUSING COULD BE DEFORMED AT THE CRUISE CONTROL AT THE ACTUATOR TO THE THROTTLE BODY. THE INNER ACCELERATOR INNER CABLE COULD VEER AWAY AND EVENTUALLY BREAK THIS COULD ALLOW THE THROTTLE TO RETURN TO THE IDLE OR REMAIN IN ITS MOST RECENT POSITION REGARDLESS OF ACCELERATOR PEDAL OPERATION INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH." NONE OF THESE SYMPTOMS APPLY TO HER VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. *NM
WHILE APPROACHING A RED LIGHT I HEARD A NOISE WITH A LOUD BANG ALL LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE MOTOR STOPPED. I HAD TO GET OUT BECAUSE SMOKE CAME FROM ALL OVER THE FRONT OF THE CAR WITH FEAR THAT A FIRE WOULD START I GRABBED MY GIRLS AND GOT TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. WHEN MY HUSBAND GOT THERE HE OPENED THE HOOD THERE WAS A HOLE IN MY MOTOR THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CAR WAS OUT OF WARRANTY NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I INVESTIGATED AND FOUND THAT THEY ARE PAYING FOR THE MOTOR TO BE FIXED I NEED TO HAVE ALL MY RECEIPTS FROM THE OIL CHANGES WHICH I HAPPEN TO HAVE. *JB
WHILE SETTING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, THE PLASTIC BUTTON WHICH HOLDS THE BRAKE IN PLACE DETACHED FROM THE HANDLE, AND NOW THE BRAKE WILL NOT HOLD, AND THE PARKING BRAKE NOW DOES NOT STAY SET. I FEEL THAT THIS IS AN UNSAFE SITUATION, BUT I HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO FIND ANYBODY WITH THE REPLACEMENT PART. PLEASE CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY WITH A PLAN OF ACTION. THANK YOU, DAVID WISDOM. *JB
MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS COMING ON WITH APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES ON MY 2001 CAMRY. AFTER TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD A VALVE WAS BAD AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED (ALONG WITH ABOUT $2000 OF OTHER THINGS THAT MYSTERIOUSLY DIDN'T NEED ANY WORK AT MY 36,OOO MILE END OF WARRENTY CHECK-UP). A CURSORY INTERNET SEARCH SHOWED THAT THE VALVE PART WAS ACTUALLY A SENSOR THAT REGULATES FUEL. THE INTERNET SEARCH SHOWED SEVERAL ARTICLES ABOUT INPROPERLY CALIBRATED SENSORS AND ARTICLES SAYING THAT 2001 CAMRYS MANUFATURED IN KENTUCKY WERE UNDER RECALL FOR DEFECTIVE SENSORS. I WAITED FOR A RECALL NOTICE, AND NEVER RECEIVED ONE. I SEARCHED AGAIN FOR THE CALIBRATION ARTICLES AND A MECHANIC ADVISED THAT THE LIGHT WOULD TURN OFF IF I DID NOT CARRY A LOT OF LUGGAGE IN THE TRUNK , DID NOT ACCELERATE TOO QUICKLY OR USE A BICYCLE RACK ON THE TRUNK. AVOIDING THESE THINGS CAUSED THE LIGHT TO GO OUT FOR LONG PERIODS OF TIME, USUALLY A FEW THOUSAND MILES, AND THEN THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND GO BACK OFF BEFORE I COULD TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC. I INQUIRED AT TWO TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS TO SEE IF MY CAR WAS TO BE RECALLED. BOTH SAID NO. THE NATIONAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER RELATIONS INSISTED NO 2001 CAMRYS FROM KENTUCKY WERE RECALLED, DESPITE MY FINDING THAT SEVERAL RECALL WEBSITES LISTED THEM. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS NOW BACK ON, AND HAS NOT TURNED OFF LIKE IT HAS IN THE PAST. AFTER SEEING SO MANY ARTICLES ON IMPROPER CALIBRATION AND DEFECTS, I WOULD LIKE TO SUBMIT MY CAR FOR RECALL.
REAR WINDOW OF CONVERTIBLE TOP KEEPS HITTING THE BACK SEAT. WINDOW FINALLY BROKE OFF PIECE OF BACK SEAT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. WINDOW NOW HAS COME LOOSE - HANGING FROM THE CONVERTIBLE TOP. TOOK CAR TO A REPAIR SHOP. THEY TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE SOLARA. THEY WILL MANUALLY ADJUST THE BACK SEAT FORWARD. THEY HAVE TO REPLACE THE REAR GLASS AND ASSEMBLY. AS SOON AS THE REPAIR FACILITY SAW MY CAR, THEY KNEW EXACTLY WHAT WAS WRONG. THEY SAID THEY HAVE HAD TO FIX A LOT OF SOLARA CONVERTIBLES. ALL HAD THE SAME PROBLEM: THE REAR WINDOW HITS THE BACK SEAT AS IT GOES DOWN. TOYOTA WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS DEFECT.
2001 TOYOTA CAMRY WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED.*MR WHEN THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO STOP THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE VEHICLE DID NOT SLOW DOWN. AS A RESULT THE VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE. *NM
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WENT ON. DEALER REPLACED VALVE AND VACUUM SWITCH. ELEVEN MONTHS LATER THE SAME THING HAPPENED, ONLY THIS TIME IT WAS ANOTHER VALVE AND THE SOP CANISTER. *NM WE WENT ON A TOYOTA CAMRY CHAT LINE AND DISCOVERED MANY MANY OTHER OWNERS WITH THE IDENTICAL PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE HAD ONLY 28000 MIS. WITH THE FIRST REPAIR AND 34,000 WITH THE SECOND AND LARGER REPAIR. IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH A LARGE NUMBER OF CAMRYS. SHOULD THERE BE A RECALL?
DT: THE TIRES ON THE VEHICLE HAVE BULGED. EVERY TIME THIS HAS OCCURRED CONSUMER HAD TAKEN IT TO DEALER TO BE REPLACED. DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT HAD TO BE REPLACED THREE TIMES. ALSO, PASSENGER'S SIDE FRONT TIRE HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE REPLACEMENT FOR THE PASSENGER SIDE FRONT EXPERIENCED TREAD SEPARATION. THE DRIVER SIDE REAR TIRE HAS BEEN REPLACED TWICE. THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE HAS HAD NO PROBLEMS AS OF YET. ALL TIRES WERE PURCHASED BRAND NEW. THERE WAS NO ROAD CONSTRUCTION OR RAIN WHEN THE PROBLEMS OCCURRED. EACH TIME WHEN THIS OCCURRED CONSUMER WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREETS. THE AVERAGE TEMPERATURE WAS AROUND 85 DEGREES OR LESS. THERE WERE NO ACCIDENTS. THE MANUFACTURE OF ALL THE TIRES WAS GOODYEAR TIRE & RUBBER, SIZE P205/65R15 RS STANDARD. ALL TIRE WERE BEING REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE UNDER WARRANTY. ALL THE REPLACEMENT TIRES WERE PURCHASED FROM DISCOUNT TIRES 7401 WEST LAKE MEAD BOULEVARD LAS VEGAS, NV 89128 702-636-2160 OR AT 4840 SOUTH JONES BOULEVARD LAS VEGAS, NV 89103 702-362-2995. *AK
IN MY 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAS RECENTLY COME ON. IT WAS DUE TO A FAULTY VSV VALVE CHARCOAL CANISTER ASSEMBLY, AS I AM BEING TOLD. AS A RESULT, THIS CAR WILL NOT PAST STATE EMISSIONS. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD I NEED TO PAY OVER $400.00 SO FAR ON THIS REPAIR. I AM FORCED TO DO THIS AT THIS TIME SINCE I NEED TO PASS THE EMISSIONS AND BE ABLE TO DRIVE THE CAR. THIS CAR HAS JUST TURNED 40K MILES. I HAVE RESEARCHED ON THE WEB AND FOUND MANY TOYOTA OWNERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. SOME AND GETTING REPAIRS DONE FOR FREE, SOME ARE NOT. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS, BUT NO RECALL, SO I HAVE HEARD.*AK
FIRST TOYOTA IS CLAIMING THAT THEY WONT BE RESPONSIBLE FOR RUST THROUGH SINCE FIRST THEY SAID WE WASHED THE CAR THE WRONG WAY WHEN IN FACT WE HAVE LIFE TIME FREE CAR WASH IN THE DEALERSHIP WHERE WE BOUGHT THE CAR FROM. THEN THE DEBRIS INSIDE THE INNER DOOR LOCKS AND UNDER THE HOOD NEXT TO THE ENGINE IT SELF WONT BE COVERED SINCE IT IS ABNORMAL DRIVING. WELL IF YOU DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAYS OF IL AND THIS IS ABNORMAL THEN BY ALL MEANS GENERAL PUBLIC SHOULD BE AWARE OF THAT RIGHT???? *NM

I HAVE A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY THAT I BOUGHT NEW.AT PRESENT THE CAR HAS JUST 20,000 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THE CAR CAME EQUIPPED WITH GENERAL HP 400 A/S TIRES. AT PRESENT THE TIRES HAVE APPROXIMATELY 3/16 TREAD DEPTH.MY COMPLAINTS ARE: 1. WHILE DRIVING ON A WET BLACKTOP ROAD AT ABOUT 30 MPH , I GENTLY APPLIED THE BRAKES FOR A CHANGING TRAFFIC SIGNAL.AT THAT TIME THE TIRES LOST TRACTION AND THE CAR SLID INTO THE INTERSECTION. THIS OCCURRED DEC. 2004. 2.WHILE STARTING FROM A STOP SIGN ON A SLIGHT UPGRADE,THE TIRES LOST TRACTION AND SPUN. THIS OCCURRED JUL 2005. I AM TO THE POINT WHERE I FEEL THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE IN THE RAIN OR EVEN ON WET PAVEMENT. DO YOU HAVE ANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS WITH THESE TIRES ?

TOYOTA REP ADVISED TOYOTA WOULD REPLACE THE SEAT TRACK, BUT DEALER STATED I WOULD HAVE TO COVER THE $350.00 LABOR CHARGE. I WAS ADVISED THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON DEFECT, BUT I STILL HAD TO PAY FOR THE LABOR. IF THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT, MATERILAS AND LABOR SHOULD BE AT THE EXPENSE OF TOYOTA. *AK
BACK IN SEPT 2004 WAS THE FIRST TIME THAT THE ENGINE CHECK LIGHT CAME ON. THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WAS REPLACED WITH GENUINE TOYOTA PARTS. THEN THE LIGHT RETURNED ON 10/04/04, 11/23/04 AND 4/7/05 DUE TO THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE CANISTER WAS REPLACED EACH TIME. *AK
THE CHARCOAL CANISTER WAS REPLACED DUE TO AN INTERNAL LEAK INSIDE THE CANISTER. *NM *JB

VEHICLE HESITATES WHEN ACCELERATING AND STALLS OUT WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP VEHICLE. POWER BRAKES FAIL TO WORK PROPERLY ONCE CALL STALLS OUT CREATING A HAZARD. NO INJURIES OR CRASHES TO DATE BUT IN FEAR OF ONE OCCURRING. DEALERSHIP HAS MADE MANY ATTEMPTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM WITH NO SUCCESS AS OF 11/11/04. REPLACED THE COMPUTER MODULE, SPARK PLUGS, WIRES, FUEL INJECTORS & CLEAN VALVES TO NO AVAIL. *JB
WHILE DRIVING CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. CONSUMER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC PLACED THE VEHICLE ON THE DIAGNOSTIC MACHINE. THEN, MECHANIC INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THE MACHINE SHOWED THAT EMISSION CHARCOAL CANISTER, AND VACUUM SWITCH VALVE WERE NOT WORKING AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. *AK
WHILE DRIVING 25-30 MPH, THE CONSUMER STOPPED WITHOUT WARNING AND ANOTHER MOTORIST VEHICLE T-BONED THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED INJURIES. *AK THE FRAME HAD BROKEN IN HALF AND THE VEHICLE WAS A TOTAL LOSS. *SC *JB

WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO PARK MY CAR IN FRONT OF HANCOCK HOUSE OF FARBRICS , I PRESSED HE BRAKE PREPARING TO STOP , SUDDENLY THE CAR JUMP TO THE STORE SAME AS A HORSE AND STOP . I DID SAY WITH POLICE I DID PRESS THE BRAKE BUT HE DIDN'T BELIEVE ME .THE STORE WAS DAMAGE IN FRONT DOOR , MY CAR TOO , BUT FORTUNELY NOBODY INJURED .

WHILE PULLING INSIDE OF A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE DRIVER WAS NOT ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE DRIVER PLACED BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE INTO A BRICK WALL. BOTH FRONTAL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED HEAD AND NECK INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. *LA THE DRIVER IS STILL UNDER DOCTOR'S CARE. *NM
WHILE PARKING ON AN INCLINE AND WHILE SETTING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BY PULLING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ARM THERE WAS NO RESPONSE AT ALL LIKE THE NORMAL CLICKING. VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A LICENSED MECHANIC WHO DETERMINED THAT THE BRAKE CABLE SNAPPED IN HALF. *AK
WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 35 TO 40 MPH, THE CONSUMER WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONT END COLLISION. UPON IMPACT, THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. ALSO, AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DIDN'T APPEAR PRIOR TO THE CRASH; DEALER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. *LA
CONSUMER CUT HAND WHILE TRYING TO GET A PIECE OF PAPER FROM UNDERNEATH ONE OF THE SEATS.*MR THE CONSUMER'S LEFT WRIST WAS CUT BY A SHARP OBJECT UNDER THE SEAT. THE CONSUMER WENT TO THE HOSPITAL AND HAD TO RECEIVE STICHES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A MANUFACTURER'S DEFECT. *NM

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, PROCEEDING TO A TRAFFIC SIGNAL PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, FOLLOWED BY AN UNINTENDED LUNGE AND INCREASE OF ACCELERATION. THE DRIVER WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE NORMAL OPERATION AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO THE STICKY ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE FAILURE OCCURRED WHENEVER THE VEHICLE WAS IN OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE ACCELERATOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE CLEANED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE MALFUNCTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
I HAD AN AUTO ACCIDENT WHERE I HIT THE BACK OF A VAN STOPPED TO TURN ON A ROADWAY (LEGALLY) AND I FAILED TO SEE IT UNTIL I WAS RIGHT UPON IT. I HIT THE BACK OF THIS VAN AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES PER HOUR. ALTHOUGH THE VAN WAS HARDLY DAMAGED, MY WHOLE FRONT END OF MY CAR WAS DAMAGED, INCLUDING PARTS OF MY RADIATOR, FANS AND BUMPER, LIGHTS, AND GRILL. HOWEVER, MY AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PLACE THAT FIXED MY CAR, CERTIFIED COLLISION CENTER ASSOCIATED WITHOUT THE DURANT TOYOTA HOUSE HERE IN WEATHERFROD, TEXAS SAID THAT ONLY ONE OF MY SENSORS WAS DAMAGED DURING THE IMPACT. NOW I WANT TO KNOW IS MY AIRBAG GOING TO DEPLOY WHILE I AM DRIVING OR WHEN I HIT A BUMP OR POTHOLE AND WHY DIDN'T IT DEPLOY DURING THIS IMPACT? I SUSTAINED BACK AND NECK INJURIES FROM THIS IMPACT. I AM HAVING PHYSICAL THERAPY TO HELP MY THORACIC MUSCLE. I ALSO HIT MY KNEES ON THE DASHBOARD DURING THE IMPACT. I ALSO HAD A LARGE BRUISE AND A SMALL CUT ON MY LEFT SIDE OF MY THROAT FROM WHERE THE SEAT BELT CAUGHT ME. TOYOTA NEEDS TO REPLACE MY AIRBAG AND EXPLAIN TO ME WHY IT DID NOT GO OFF. A 40 MILE PER HOUR IMPACT HIT SQUARELY BEHIND ANOTHER VEHICLE SHOULD HAVE SET OFF MY AIRBAGS, AT LEAST I FEEL IT SHOULD HAVE. I HAVE NO FAITH IN THE AIRBAG THAT IS PRESENTLY INSTALLED IN MY CAR AND I FEEL THAT I WOULD NOT HAVE HAD THESE BACK AND NECK INJURIES IF IT HAD GONE OFF AS IT SHOULD HAVE. I WANT MY CURRENT AIRBAG COMPLETELY REPLACED, ALONG WITH THE SENSORS, BY TOYOTA.*JB
THE BRAKES HAD TO BE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THE VEHICLE WOULD STOP. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO GO THROUGH AN INTERSECTION. *AK ON ANOTHER OCCASION THE CONSUMER ATTEMPTED TO STOP, BUT ENDED UP REAR ENDING ANOTHER MOTORIST AND CONSEQUENTLY THERE WAS 2,500 WORTH OF DAMAGE TO THE CONSUMES VEHICLE. *JB

2001 SOLARA-WHEN ENGAGE EMERGENCY HAND BRAKE AND THEN SUBSEQUENTLY RELEASE IT TO DRIVE,THE FRONT WHEELS VIBRATE AND IT FEELS THAT YOU ARE DRIVING ON A WASHBOARD TYPE ROAD WITH ALL SPEED BUMPS, AND THE CAR CANNOT GET UP TO SPEED AS YOU PRESS ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND IT ALSO FEELS LIKE ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES ARE FLAT. WHEN YOU COME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND TURN OFF THE ENGINE AND WAIT A FEW MINUTES AND RESTART AND DRIVE THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND EVERYTHING IS NORMAL. THIS HAS HAPPENED THE FOUR TIMES WE HAVE ENGAGED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE. OBVIOUSLY WE NO LONGER ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY HAND BRAKE. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER SAYS HE NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM AND HAS RECEIVED NO NOTICES FROM THE TOYOTA CO. I THINK FOR SOME STRANGE REASON WHEN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS ENGAGED AND THEN DISENGAGED THE BRAKE CALIPERS DO NOT FULLY RELEASE AND RUB THE ROTORS. THE MYSTERY IS HOW THE ROTORS WOULD OPEN FULLY JUST BY STOPPING THE AUTO AND TURNING OFF THE IGNITION WITH NO FURTHER TOUCHING OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LEVER. ARE THE CALIPERS EFFECTED BY THE ENGINE BEING SHUT DOWN? WHY DOES EVERYTHING RETURN TO NORMAL AFTER STOPPING AND TURNING OFF THE ENGINE? *JB
WHILE PARKED FOR 5 HOURS VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE DEALER STATED THAT FIRE STARTED IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT, HOWEVER, THE CAUSE HAD NOT BEEN DETERMINED. *AK
PREMATURE TIRE FAILLURE. I RECENTLY HAD TO REPLACE MY TIRES ON A 2001 TOYOTA CAMARY. THE CAR HAS 47000 MILES ON IT. THE TIRE DEALER INDICATED THAT HE HAD EXPERIENCED THSI PROBLEM ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. OTHER CUSTOMERS HAD SIMILAR COMPLAINTS INVOLVING SEVERAL BRANDS OF TIRES. HE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS PREMATURE OUTER EDGE WEAR INDICATING A POSSIBLE SPECIFICATION PROBLEM.
THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL OF OUR 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY SUDDENLY CAME OFF FROM THE AXEL WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED (AROUND 65 MPH). THIS HAPPENED ON THE INTERSTATE 78 HIGHWAY IN PA. THIS LEAD TO CAR SINKING TO THE LEFT AND HITTING THE GUARD RAIL, THEN SPNNING ACROSS THE HIGHWAY, HITTING THE OTHER GUARD RAIL. THE CAR WAS TOTALED. PEOPLE WERE INJURED, ONE PERSON AT THE BACK SEAT HAD HEAD INJURY, ONE HAS HAD CHRONIC NECK PROBLEMS SINCE THEN, OTHERS KEEP HAVING NECK TROUBLES OFF AND ON. THE WHEEL JUMPED THE MEDIAN AND FLEW OFF TO THE OTHERSIDE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE COMING OFF OF THE WHEEL WAS SUDDEN, GIVING NO TIME TO THE DRIVER TO DO ANYTHING TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. THE CAR ONLY HAD ROUGHLY 55,000 MILES ON IT AND WE HAD GOTTEN AN OIL CHANGE AND MULTIPOINT INSPECTION SERVICE ON THE CAR ABOUT 1000 MILES BEFORE THE ACCIDENT. THERE WAS NO AXEL RELATED PROBLEM INDICATED IN THE SERVICE. THAT SERVICE WAS DONE BY A TOYOTA DEALER. THE ACCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE. THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO OTHER VEHICLE AROUND US ON THE HIGHWAY OR THE WHEEL COMING OFF WOULD HAVE HAD FATAL RESULTS.*AK

WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES ACCELERATOR PEDAL FAILED. AS A RESULT, CONSUMER'S VEHICLE REAR ENDED ANOTHER VEHICLE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT ANY SPEED FRONT DRIVER'S SEAT WOULD ROCK BACK AND FORTH. THE DEALER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO WARRANTY, NOTHING WE COULD DO. *AK THE SEAT WAS REPAIRED BUT THEN SIX WEEKS LATER THE PROBLEM RECURRED. TOYOTA SUGGESTED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. *SC
DT: THE CONTACT STATES VEHICLE HAD A DEFECTIVE CLUTCH. THE CLUTCH HAS REPEATEDLY MALFUNCTIONED. HE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE CLUTCH TWICE WITHIN THREE YEARS. ALSO, CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, AND THEY DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. NO FURTHER CORRECTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE AT THIS TIME. *AK
MY CAR (A 2001, 4-CYLINDER, TOYOTA CAMRY LE; VIN #: [XXX]) HAS BEEN AT THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT FOR 26 DAYS. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THAT DEALERSHIP WHEN IT SUDDENLY BROKE DOWN ON A MAJOR INTERSTATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CAR STARTED TO JERK SPORADICALLY AND HESITATE WHEN I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL. THE CAR GOT WORSE IT STARTED TO MAKE A CLICKING-AND-CLACKING NOISE AND SEEMED THAT IT WOULD DIE AT ANYTIME. AS I APPROACHED THE SERVICE STATION, I HEARD A LOUD POPPING SOUND AND THE FRONT OF THE CAR STARTED TO SMOKE. I ASKED THE MECHANICS AT THE STATION TO CHECK UNDER THE HOOD. AFTER LOOKING AT THE CAR, ONE OF THE MECHANICS ASKED HOW LONG HAVE YOU HAD THIS CAR?? WHEN I TOLD HIM THAT IT WAS A 2001, HE SAID THAT HE?D NEVER SEEN THIS TYPE OF DAMAGE IN A 2-YEAR OLD CAR. HE RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER BECAUSE IT SHOULD BE A REPAIR THAT WOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. TWO LETTERS AND SEVERAL CALLS LATER AND MY CAR STILL SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP. I RECEIVED A CALL FROM PERCY CHAN OF TOYOTA'S NATIONAL CUSTOMER RELATIONS CENTER (310-468-2846) ON OCTOBER 17, 2003. [XXX]. [XXX] CALLED TO FIND OUT WHAT HAPPENED WITH MY 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY (APPROX 66,060 MILES). HE THEN SAID THAT HE'D GOTTEN AN EMAIL FROM THE DEALERSHIP THAT SAID THAT THE DEALERSHIP OFFERED TO MAKE THE REPAIRS FOR $500 (THIS IS DOWN FROM $5,500; THE ORIGINAL ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. I RECEIVED A SECOND CALL FROM [XXX]. [XXX] ON OCTOBER 20, 2003. HE CALLED TO TELL ME THAT HE'D REVIEWED THE LETTER AND COULDN'T UNDERSTAND WHY THE DEALERSHIP WOULD LET MY CAR SIT ON THE LOT TAKING UP SPACE. HE SAID THAT THEY HAD GOTTEN MONEY FROM TOYOTA TO MAKE REPAIRS UNDER THE CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM. I RECEIVED A THIRD CALL FROM [XXX]. [XXX] ON OCTOBER 21, 2003. HE CALLED TO TELL ME THAT THE [XXX]. BOOTS WAS NO LONGER THE SERVICE MANAGER AND THE NEW MANAGER WAS [XXX]. HE SAID THAT [XXX] CHECKED WITH THE MECHANIC AND SAID THAT THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY VALVOLINE WHO HAD DONE MY LAST OIL CHANGE.
