WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH THE VEHICLE WOULD VIBRATE SEVERELY AND CAUSE LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL, VEHICLE BEEN TO DEALER ON THREE OCCASIONS, AND INFORMED CONSUMER THAT NOTHING COULD BE FOUND. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. *AK
PROBLEMS INVOLVING 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY.*MR (NAR) WHILE DRIVING ON THE MAJOR INTERSTATE THE CONSUMER VEHICLE BROKE DOWN WITH OUT ANY WARNING, THE CAR STARTED TO JERK SPORADICALLY AND HESITATE WHEN DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL. THE VEHICLE STARTED SMOKING AND HAD TO TOWED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED ABOUT THE DEFECT ENGINE BUT FELL TO FIX PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER WAS REQUESTING THAT A RECALL BE ISSUED FOR ALL AFFECTED ENGINES, OR RE PURCHASE THE VEHICLE AND COVER THE INCIDENTAL AND COLLATERAL EXPENSES MADE FROM DEFECTIVE VEHICLE. *CB

2001 TOYOTA CAMRY DOORS WILL AUTOMATICALLY LOCK. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE DOORS WILL LOCK BY THEMSELVES AND CAN NOT OPEN MANUALLY. *NJ
LETTER FROM CONGRESSMAN GOODLATTE ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT, RE PROBLEMS SHE EXPERIENCED WITH HER VEHICLE AFTER THE USE OF GASOLINE CONTAINING ETHANOL. *NJ THE CONSUMER OWNS A 2001 AND 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY. ONE OF THE VEHICLES NEEDED A NEW CATALYTIC CONVERTER AND THE OTHER NEEDED A NEW OXYGEN SENSOR. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY THE USE OF GASOLINE CONTAINING ETHANOL. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT A REPRESENTATIVE OF A STATE AGENCY THAT INSPECTED GASOLINE STATIONS INFORMED HER THAT MECHANICS HAD TOLD HIM THAT EVEN A SMALL AMOUNT OF ETHANOL COULD CAUSED THE OXYGEN SENSOR TO MALFUNCTION. S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING RE TOYOTA COMPLAINT FM OWNER OF A 2001 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH DEFECTIVE WINDOW OPENER. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE POWER WINDOWS DO NOT WORK ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE AND THE RIGHT REAR. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT WOULD COST $380.00 PER WINDOW TO REPLACE.
SPRING STOPPER WAS INSTALLED IN FRONT SPRING AT FACTORY, POSSIBLY FOR DELVERY PURPOSES, BUT IT WAS NOT REMOVED WHEN SOLD TO CONSUMER, CAUSING A STEERING HAZARD. *AK
WITHIN A DAY OF DELIVERY THE CONSUMER NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE WANDERED/PULLS TO THE RIGHT WHEN DRIVEN ON SMOOTH SURFACES. NLM
WHEN VEHICLE IS BEING DRIVEN STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AND VIBRATES, CAUSING POOR VEHICLE CONTROL. VIBRATION IN STEERING WHEEL IS EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE TO DRIVER. PLEASE GIVE ANY FURTHER DETAILS. *AK
STEERING WHEEL SHAKES AT 60MPH SO VIOLENTLY THAT CONSUMERS HAVE GONE ALMOST NUMB. CONSUMERS CAN FEEL STEERING BOUNCING FROM FLOORBOARD. TOYOTA'S REPRESENTATIVE TEST DROVE, AND ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM. TIRES WERE DIAGNOSED AS POSSIBILE CAUSE OF PROBLEM. TOYOTA TOOK A SECOND LOOK, AND FOUND VEHICLE CAME FROM FACTORY WITH AXLE BEING OUTER ROUND AND REPLACED IT. TOYOTA STATED A THIRD PARTY WOULD HAVE TO DETERMINE IF VEHICLE SHOULD BE CONSIDERED A BUY BACK. *AK
THE FRONT SEATS ARE DEFECTIVELY DESIGNED, CREATING A HEALTH AND SAFETY HAZARD. *AK
UPON STOPPING THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES DOES NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE MAKES A GRINDING NOISE AND IT DRAGS. DEALER STATES THAT A PART IS MISSING OFF THE BRAKES. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. NLM
INTERMITTENTLY WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED IN A SUDDEN STOP, PEDAL IS NORMAL; HOWEVER, THERE IS AN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. ALSO, PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED TWICE, AND THE PROBLEM STILL EXISTS.*AK CONSUMER FEELS THE PROBLEM MAY BE DUE TO AN IMPROPER FRICTION MATERIAL, ALSO STATES THAT POSSIBLY THE MASTER CYLINDER PISTON DISPLACEMENT HAS BEEN MISCALCULATED. *SLC
VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A FRONTAL COLLISION AT 15 MPH. UPON IMPACT, NEITHER FRONTAL OR SIDE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. FEEL FREE TO PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK
CONSUMERS CONCERN WITH THE VEHICLE REGARDS EXCESSIVE COLD IDLE SPEED WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO STOP THE VEHICLE. WHEN CONSUMER DRIVES OUT OF HIS ALLEY, THERE IS A DOWNHILL SLOPE WHICH TAKES A LOT OF BRAKE PRESSURE TO STOP AND HOLD THE VEHICLE ON THE SLOPE. THE VEHICLE IS ALSO DIFFICULT TO STOP ON ICY CONDITIONS BECAUSE THE ENGINE IS TRYING TO RACE. CONSUMER BELIEVES THAT THIS VEHICLE IS NOT ACHIEVING THE SPECIFIED FUEL MILEAGE PER GALLON. THE MPG FOR THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE ARE 27 HIGHWAY 22 CITY. THIS VEHICLE, A COMBINATION OF 19 MPG. *JG
THE RESPONSE TIME FOR THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS SEVERLY LACKING. I HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM NUMEROUS TIMES, INCLUDING ONCE ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE BRAKES WOULD NOT ENGAGE AT ALL. I HAVE NOTIFIED THE MANUFACTURER AND BROUGHT THE CAR IN FOR INSPECTION NUMEROUS TIMES AND EACH TIME HAVE BEEN TOLD THERE IS NO PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES. HOWEVER I CONTIINUE TO EXPERIENCE DEFICIENCIES IN BRAKING RESPONSE TIME. MR

WHEN THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE IS 70 DEGREES OR ABOVE AND TANK IS FIS FULL VEHICLE SPUTTERS AND STALLS. *AK

WHEN STARTING THE VEHICLE RPMS GO HIGH. ALSO, WHILE DRIVING AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION TAKES A LONG TIME TO SHIFT. DEALER FOUND THAT ENGINE COMPUTER HAD TO BE REPLACED TO FIX THE START UP PROBLEM. DEALER HAD NOT DETERMINED THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION. *AK
QUESTIONS CONCERNING AIR BAGS. *MR THE CONSUMER WAS CONCERNED WITH THE AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT RESULTING IN THUMB INJURIES. *SC *JB

LTR FM TIMOTHY QUINN (NY) REPORT SAFETY ISSUE WITH VEHICLE A 2001 TOYOTA SOLARA PULLS TO THE LEFT AND IN THE OPPOSING LANE OF TRAFFIC ALIGNMENT AND FRONT SUSPENSION DEFECT. *LA THE DEALER TOLD THE CONSUMER THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY CROWNS IN THE ROAD. *SC *JB
WHILE DRIVING WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, THE DRIVER DEPRESSED THE BRAKES, INSTEAD OF THE BRAKES ENGAGING THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED CAUSING THE DRIVER TO LOSE CONTROL AND HIT THE SEMI. DUE TO THE EXTENT OF IMPACT, THE FRONTAL AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DEEMED TOTALED. *JB *NM

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON NINE OCCASION, HOWEVER THE DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS CAUSED BY THE CROWN IN THE ROAD. *JB *SC
