THE BRAKES SQUEAKED WHEN THEY WERE APPLIED, HOWEVER THE DEALER DID NOT FIND A PROBLEM. *JB
MY BROTHER WAS INVOLVED IN A FATAL CRASH IN A NEW 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY XLE, THE ACCIDENT OCCRURED IN NORTH CAROLINA AND IS BEING INVESTIGATED BY THE HIGHWAY PATROL. THE CAR LEFT THE HIGHWAY AND ROLLED OVER EVENTUALLY IMPACTING A TREE. THE CAR WAS EQUIPPED WITH FRONT, SIDE, AND SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS. NO AIRBAG DEPLOYED IN THIS ACCIDENT. I BELIEVE THE LACK OF AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT WAS CONTRIBUTORY TO MY BROTHER'S DEATH.*AK
FRONT ABS BRAKES LOCK ON WET ROAD CONDITIONS, CAUSING LOSS OF CONTROL. DEALER HAS YET TO BE CONTACTED.PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS.*AK
MY 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS BRAKING SYSTEM THAT DOES NOT OPERATE PROPERLY. FIND EVERY TIME I GO TO STOP BRAKING SYSTEM DOES NOT STOP AND PERFORM PROPERLY. FIND CAR DOES NOT PERFORM PROPERLY IN RAIN AND SNOW AND SKIDS OUT IN THIS TYPE OF WEATHER. NOTE HAVE CONTACTED DEALERSHIP ALONG WITH MANUFACTURER TO NOTIFY THEM OF MY COMPLAINT WITH NO AVAIL. *PH
ROTTEN EGG SMELL SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THE REGIONAL REP WITHOUT A RESOLUTION. THE REP SUGGESTION WAS TO JUST PUT PREMIUM GAS IN IT. CERTAINLY NOT WHAT I EXPECTED FROM TOYOTA BUT I HAVE BEEN PUTTING PREMIUM GAS IN THE CAR AND IT DOES SEEMS TO TAME THE SMELL SOMEWHAT. IN ADDITION WE HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT ALIGNMENT AND THE CAR PULLS TO THE LEFT. HAVE PURCHASED A LIFE TIME ALIGNMENT WARRANTY BUT IT STILL SEEMS TO GO OUT OF ALIGNMENT QUICKLY. ALSO HAVE A CONSTANT WIND PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR. BEEN REPAIRED ONCE, GOING INTO THE SHOP AGAIN TO REPAIR. ALSO THE ORIGINAL TIRES HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 24,000 MILES. I WOULDN'T CONSIDER A TOYOTA IN FUTURE CAR PURCHASES.*AK
WHEN DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SURGED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION AND THE MECHANIC CHANGED THE COMPUTER IN THE VEHICLE. *AK THE A/C DID NOT COOL PROPERLY, THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD AND BACKWARDS. THE CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. SUDDEN ACCELERATION ALSO OCCURED WHEN BRAKING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, EVEN AFTER 443 MILES OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE. *SC *JB
BRAKES ON THE 2002 TO PRESENT CAMRYS, I HAVE CHANGED THE WHOLE SYSTEMS OUT, AND I KEEP TELLING TECH SUPORT THAT THE FLUID DRAINS BACK INTO THE MASTERCYLINDER FROM THE LINE THAT LOOPS UP ON NON ABS SYSTEMS, THE LINES LEAK ON THE ABS SYSEM DUE TO UNDER TIGHTING. THEY TELL US THAT THE SYSTEM WAS MADE TO BE SOFT FROM COMPLAINTS OF PREVIOUS OWNERS THIS IS ON 02 AND PRESENT. I SEE ALL THE BELOW BUT WHY WAIT BERFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED,SOMTHING NEEDS TO BE DONE NOW. I WORK AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR 12 YEARS NOW AND THIS KEEPS GETTING SHOVED UNDER THE RUG, THE DESIGN IS A DEFECT IN IT SELF. AT LEAST DO THIS TEST, DRIVE A 02- 04 CAMRY NON ABS, 2AZ ENG 4 CYL, FIND A SAFE ROAD, RUNNING ABOUT50- 80, SLAM ON THE BRAKES, TO THE FLOOR THEY GO. HOPE NOTHING IS IN FRONT OF YOU. MAY NOT DO IT ON EVERY ONE. FIND ONE THAT WILL ,THEN BLEED THEM, STILL SOFT BUT WILL STOP BETTER,WAIT AWHILE THEN TRY IT AGAIN, TO THE FLOOR THEY GO. I PURCHASED A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY LE, CARFAX ONE OWNER, STEERING LOSE HARD TO TURN TOOK TO SHOP THAT'S BEEN IN OPERATION SINCE 1972 TOLD I HAD ACRACKED STEERING COLUMN THE SAME AS THE TOYOTA TRUCKS AND SUV MID 2000 MODELS. THE SHOP SAID IT WOULD BE 750.00 DOLLARS SHOULD TAKE TO TOYOTA AS THEY HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE IN TOYOTA CARS AND TRUCKS. CALLED TOYOTA THEY SAID CAR WAS TO OLD EVEN THOUGH OTHER WISE CAR IN PERFECT MECHANICAL CONDITION. I'M SURE I AM NOT THE ONLY CONSUMER OUT THEIR WITH THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR CRACKS IN ANY VEHICLE'S STEERING COLUMN SINCE THIS IS ONE OF THE MOST COMPONENT ON ANY VEHICLE, THE BIG 3 NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAD SCORES OF OTHERS. EVERY ONE KNOWS THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE, FAULTY STEERING CRACKS ON A -1 USED CAR BECAUSE OF A DESIGN FLAW, NOT USAGE. *TR
SPRING ASSEMBLY ATTACHED TO L SIDE OF BRAKE PEDAL ARM PROTRUDES FORWARD ABOVE RUBBER PEDAL AREA. IF A DRIVER WITH SIZE 11 SHOES PRESSES THE PEDAL SLIGHTLY LEFT-OF-CENTER, HIS TOES WILL HIT THE PROTRUSION, MAKING IT IMPOSSIBLE TO FULLY DEPRESS THE PEDAL.

THE ORIGINAL TIRE THAT TOYOTA PLACED ON MY 2002 CAMRY XLE V6 WAS UNSATISFACTORY TO THE POINT OF BEING DANGEROUS. EVEN IN A NEW CONDITION, THE TIRES NEVER PROVIDED ADEQUATE TRACTION IN RAIN OR SNOW, FREQUENTLY SLIDING WITH THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGED. I NOW NOTICE ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS A FREQUENT COMPLAINT OF MANY OTHER OWNERS OF THIS SPECIFIC TIRE, EVEN ON OTHER THAN TOYOTA MANUFACTURED VEHICLES. THE TIRE IN QUESTION IS THE BRIDGESTONE POTENZA RE92 P215/60R16 94V. TOYOTA REFUSES TO ADDRESS THE PROBLEM. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE TRAVELING 10 TO 15 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED TO 30 MPH. THE ISSUE WAS INTERMITTENT. THE SERVICE DEALER WAS NOT UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE PROBLEM WITH THE VEHICLE.
LOUD METTALIC RATTLING NOISE OCCURS AT HIGH SPEED (70+MPH), OR WHEN DRIVING IN WINDY CONDITIONS AT SLOWER SPEEDS. VEHICLE BROUGHT TO TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT 3 TIMES. SERVICE DEPARTMENT CLAIMS THEY ARE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE NOISE. SERVICE DEPARTMENT DID NOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE UNDER CONDITIONS REQUIRED TO DUPLICATE NOISE (SLOWER SPEEDS WHEN WINDY, OR HIGHER SPEEDS ANYTIME).*AK
TURN SIGNAL CLICKER'S VOLUMN IS SO SOFT IT CAN'T BE HEARD.ALSO, AS A RESULT CONSUMER IS DRIVING WITH TURN SIGNAL ON UNKNOWINGLY. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED SIGNALS IS WORKING PROPERLY.
WHILE DRIVING AT VERY SLOW SPEEDS WITH BRAKE APPLIED, THE VEHICLE WILL SURGE. THE ONLY WAY TO STOP VEHICLE IS TO PUT IT IN PARK AND SHUT OFF THE ENGINE. VEHICLE HAS BEEN TAKEN TO THE DEALER 7 TIMES IN 2 WEEKS, AND THEY CANNOT FIND A PROBLEM. *AK LEAD TECHNICIAN INFORMED CONSUMER WHEN THE WHEELS ARE TURNED AT A SLOW SPEED (I.E. PARKING MANUEVERS) THE ENGINE CAN SURGE SLIGHTLY, CONSUMER HAS NOT HAD ANY PROBLEMS SINCE THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN RETURNED. *TT
CONSUMER STATES THAT TIRE WAS LOSING AIR AND WAS DAMAGED PRIOR TO PURCHASE, THE DEALER ONLY REPAIRED IT AT CONSUMERS COST. *SLC
THERE IS NO SOUND INDICATING THAT TURN SIGNAL HAS BEEN TURNED ON WHEN MAKING A TURN. CONSUMER FEELS IT'S A HAZARD BECAUSE ONE DOES NOT KNOW IF TURN SIGNAL IS ON OR NOT, UNLESS PUT YOUR HEAD DOWN TO LOOK AT DASHBOARD, AND BY THEN COULD HAVE AN ACCIDENT. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURHTER INFORMATION.*AK
CAR PULLS TO THE RIGHT, TOOK IN CAR TODAY AND TOLD THEM TO ADJUST ALIGNMENT AND HAVE OIL CHANGED, THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CALLED BACK AND SAID THEIR WAS A MANUFACTURE RECALL AND THE CAR HAD TO STAY OVERNIGHT. IF IT HAD A RECALL NO NOTICE WAS SENT OUT THIS IS WHAT I'M UPSET ABOUT. CONSUMERS ARE SOPOSED TO BE NOTIFIED IF THERE IS A RECALL NOT FIND OUT AFTER THEY DAMAGE OTHER COMPONENTS AND FIND OUT WHEN THEY TAKE THEIR CAR IN FOR OIL CHANGES.*AK
I PURCHASED A 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY LE V IN OCT 2002 I STARTED NOTICING THAT IN NOV 2001 THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD PULL TO THE LEFT WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I ASLO NOTICED THAT WHEN I AM DRIVING THE VEHICLE I CAN FEEL EVERY VIBRATION AND BUMP IN THEROAD WHILE HOLDING THE STEERING WHEEL AND THROUGH THE GAS PEDAL. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER IN DECEMBER 2001 AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THEY TOOK IT OUT FOR A TEST DRIVE BUT DID NOT EXCEED 40 MILES AN HOUR. I HAVE BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER AT LEAST TWO MORE TIMES AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. IN DECEMBER 2002 I TOOK THE CAR TO THE SAME DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT I HAD THE ALIGNMENT DONE AND THE CAR IS NO BETTER.

FORWARD SURGE OF THE VEHICLE WHILE STOPPED WITH FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY INCIDENTS OF THE SAME.

STARTING THE FIRST WEEK IHAD THE VEHICLE THE BRAKES WERE "NOT RIGHT" AND SEEMED TO MALFUNCTION INTERMITTENTLY ABOUT EVERY TWO DAYS UNTIL I FINALLY WENT THROUGH AN INTERSECTION AND WAS UNABLE TO STOP. THE DEALER CALIMS IT'S THE ABS BUT I'VE DRIVEN ABS VEHICLES FOR THE LAST 5 YRS WITHOUT EXPERIENCING THIS. THE SERVICE DEPT WAS ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM ONCE AND STILL CLAIMS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG W/ THE CAR. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND HAVE WRITTEN A COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA CORPORATE WHO CLAIMS THERTE HAS BEEN NO OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THIS NATURE. *AK

2002 TOYOTA CAMRY DELAYED ACCELERATION*CW THE CONSUMER STATED THE PROBLEM WAS DELAYED ACCELERATION WHEN THE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER STATES SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *TGW THE CONSUMER PULLED INTO A GARAGE. THE TURN INTO THE GARAGE WAS TIGHT, SO IT REQUIRED HER TO BACK UP AND THEN PULL FORWARD IN ORDER TO EXECUTE THE TURN. SHE BACKED UP AND TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL HARD TO THE RIGHT. SHE HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND SHIFTED FROM REVERSE TO FORWARD WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO THE HOUSE, DOING SEVERAL THOUSAND DOLLARS OF DAMAGE TO THE HOUSE AND THE VEHICLE. SEVERAL WEEKS LATER THE SAME SITUATION OCCURRED. VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK TO DEALER TWICE FOR "WANDERING". CHANGES IN THE ROAD SURFACE CAUSE THE CAR TO CHANGE DIRECTIONS RADIACALLY. THE CAR WAS OUT OF ALIGNMENT WHEN SERVICED, BUT THIS DIDN'T HELP. NOW, THE STEERING WHEEL IS TO THE LEFT WHEN GOING STRAIGHT. DEALER SAYS THIS IS "NORMAL". THE CAR HAS VEERED OUT OF MY LANE MANY TIMES OUT OF MY CONTROL. IT GETS WORSE AT HIGHER SPEEDS. I HAVE ADJUSTED TIRE PRESSURES WITH NO CHANGE.*AK
I HAVE JUST PURCHASED A 2002 CAMRY LE V6 AUTOMATIC (WITH OVERDRIVE). I HAVE 450 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AT THIS TIME. I AM NOT VERY HAPPY WITH THE WAY THE CAR SHIFTS WHEN LEFT IN OVERDRIVE. I TRAVEL 25 MILES ONE WAY ON BACK ROADS AT WHICH I CAN MAINTAIN SPEEDS BETWEEN 40 AND 55. MOVING ALONG BETWEEN THESE SPEEDS I FEEL THE CAR INTERMITTENTLY HOLDING BACK AND LETTING GO (I CAN SEE THE RPM'S DROP BY 500 RPM AND THEN GO BACK UP AGAIN WHEN THIS HAPPENS). THIS IS VERY ANNOYING TO ME. THIS DOES THIS QUITE OFTEN ON MY COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK. THE OWNERS MANUAL SAYS TO LEAVE THE CAR IN OVERDRIVE AND I ONLY NEED TO TAKE IT OUT WHEN CLIMBING HILLS AT LOWER SPEEDS AND WHEN HAULING A TRAILER. I FEEL THAT THIS SHOULD NOT BE DOING THIS IN THE MANNER I AM DRIVING THE CAR. I HAVE A 1999 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH OVERDRIVE WHICH I LEAVE IN OVERDRIVE ALL THE TIME AND DO NOT NOTICE THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM. *AK
I ALSO HAVE ANOTHER ISSUE WITH MY NEW CAMRY THAT HAS BEEN HAPPENING. WHILE DECENDING DOWN A HILL ( BETWEEN 40 AND 45) AND WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES THE CAR WILL DOWN SHIFT VERY (CAN EVEN HEAR/FEEL A CLUCK) HARD. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING QUITE OFTEN AND IS NOT NORMAL. *AK

TWO DAYS AFTER I PURCHASED MY CAMRY, THE BRAKES BEGAN TO SQUEAK. AT FIRST, IT WAS A SLIGHT SOUND BUT GRADUALLY BECAME VERY LOUD TO THE POINT THAT IT IS SCARY TO DRIVE THE CAR. TODAY, EXACTLY ABOUT A MONTH SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR, THE NOISE IS UNBAREABLE. IT IS EXTREMELY LOUD AND IT HAPPEN EVERYTIME I PRESS THE BREAK PEDAL,THE BRAKES WAS ALSO VERY HARD TO BRAKE. I HAVE TO PRESS REALLY HARD TO GET IT TO WORK. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND TOYOTA REGIONAL OFFICE. THEY DIDN'T HELP AT ALL BUT JUST BLAMING THE GOVERNMENT ON THE NEW BRAKE REGULATION. VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK IN REPAIR SHOP SEVERAL TIMES FOR PULLING TO LEFT. AS SPEED INCREASES PULLING BECOMES MORE SEVERE. FRONT TIRES WERE CHANGED WITH ADDITIONAL TO FRONT ALIGNMENT. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
WHILE DRIVING APPLIED BRAKES AND WITHOUT WARNING BRAKES DID NOT FUNCTION. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED, AND WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.PROBLEM OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY, AND ON 3 DIFFERENT OCCASIONS.*AK
THE REAR DISC BRAKES CUT GROOVES INTO ROTORS ON BOTH SIDES. THE BRAKES WOBBLE AND PULSATE. *YH
HYDRAULIC BRAKES; VEHICLE FAILS TO RESPOND TO BRAKE APPLICATION WITH PEDAL DESCENDING TO FLOORBOARD. DEALER STATES THAT PEDAL'S TRAVEL TO THE FLOOR IS NORMAL. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. *AK
THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE IS TOO HIGH AND A DRIVER OF AVERAGE HEIGHT CAN NOT SEE THE BACK END OF THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE REAR WINDSHIELD CAUSING BACKING UP HAZARDOUS. *YH
