MY CAR WAS LEAKING OIL AND WHEN I HAD IT DIAGNOSED, THERE WAS NO MORE THREAD ON THE SCREWS TO HOLD THE MOTOR ON CORRECTLY, AFTER A MONTH OF THE RETHREADING, MY HEAD GASKET/MOTOR BOTH STOPPED WORKING. *TR
I AM A CPST REPORTING A DOREL DESIGNER 22 INFANT SEAT THAT DOES NOT CONNECT TO THE BASE. ENGLISH IS A SECOND LANGUAGE FOR THIS FAMILY WHO VISITED MY FITTING STATION TODAY. PRODUCT INFO: MODEL # IC-048-AAI MFG 05/20/2010. SEAT IS GENERALLY IN GOOD CONDITION AND FAMILY HAS BEEN USING IT WITHOUT THE BASE BECAUSE OF DIFFICULTY CONNECTING THE CARRIER TO THE BASE. I LOOKED CAREFULLY AT THE CARRIER TO BASE CONNECTION AND IT APPEARS THAT THE CARRIER WILL NOT CONNECT TO THE BASE UNLESS THE CARRIER RELEASE BAR (BEHIND THE CHILD'S HEAD) IS SQUEEZED. I CONTACTED DOREL AND OFFERED TO RETURN THE SEAT TO THEM. THE REPRESENTATIVE I SPOKE WITH (NAME AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST) CHECKED WITH A SUPERVISOR (NAME AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST) AND THEY DETERMINED THAT SINCE THIS MODEL IS NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION IT WOULD NOT BE NECESSARY TO SEND THE SEAT BACK TO DOREL FOR FURTHER REVIEW. THIS SEAT IS LESS THAN 4 YEARS OLD AND ALTHOUGH IT IS NO LONGER IN PRODUCTION I AM CONCERNED THAT OTHER DOREL DESIGNER 22 INFANT SEATS STILL IN USE MAY ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM CONNECTING TO THE BASE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED ABNORMAL AND UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, CRASHING INTO THE REAR OF A SECOND VEHICLE. NO POLICE REPORT WAS TAKEN. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 53,000.
SEVERAL MONTHS AGO, I WENT TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ABOUT A CONCERN WITH MY PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG. I WAS TOLD WITHOUT THEM TOUCHING MY VEHICLE THAT I NEEDED A NEW DASHBOARD WHICH IS OVER $2000.00. I LEFT BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE $2000.00 PLUS TO PURCHASE A DASHBOARD. I WENT ONLINE TO TOYOTA.COM AND SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT ON 6/24/2014. I SPOKE WITH [XXX], A DAY OR SO LATER AND SHE ADVISED ME TO GO BACK AND HAVE THEM CHECK IT, WHICH I DID AND I WAS TOLD WHEN I GOT THERE IT WOULD BE AN HOUR/HOUR AND A HALF BEFORE THEY GET TO MY CAR. I TOLD[XXX] (ADVISOR) THAT I'LL WAIT IN THE LOUNGE AREA, IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 2:01PM, AT 2:30PM HE TOLD ME MY CAR WAS READY. I WAS GIVEN A COUPLE OF PRINT OUTS AND WAS TOLD ONCE AGAIN I NEEDED A NEW DASHBOARD BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS OLD, PER [XXX]. HE ALSO ASKED ME IF I COULD READ WHEN I ASKED IF IT WAS STATED ON THE PRINT OUTS, VERY RUDE! I SPOKE WITH [XXX] AGAIN AND SHE SAID SHE WOULD HAVE TO SPEAK WITH MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP FIRST AND SHE'D CONTACT ME IN A FEW DAYS, WHICH SHE DID AND SAID THE SERVICE MANAGER NAMED [XXX] SAID HE TOLD ME IT WAS A COSMETIC ISSUE. I NEVER SPOKE WITH A TIM. SHE ALSO TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA WILL NOT HELP ME BECAUSE IT'S A COSMETIC ISSUE, PER [XXX] AT BEV SMITH TOYOTA. I ATTACHED PHOTOS WITH MY COMPLAINT TO TOYOTA. I WENT ONLINE AND FOUND A COMPLAINT SITE AND POSTED MY COMPLAINT ON THERE AND FOUND OUT I COULD CONTACT NHTSA. AS I STATED TO TOYOTA CORPORATION, I'M NOT SEEKING A NEW VEHICLE OR MONEY, I JUST WANT THIS PROBLEM FIXED. I WOULD HATE FOR SOMETHING TRAGIC TO HAPPEN WHEN THE ISSUE COULD'VE BEEN RESOLVED! BASICALLY, TOYOTA IS SAYING THAT THEIR DASHBOARDS DON'T LAST OVER TEN YEARS. VERY DISAPPOINTED WITH THEM AND I WAS CONSIDERING PURCHASING ANOTHER CAMRY, NOT AFTER THIS!! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED WHEN APPLIED. THE BRAKE PEDAL ALSO ABNORMALLY TRAVELED TO THE FLOORBOARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE BRAKE PADS TO BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 107,885.
WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT, THE WHEEL TURNED SHARPLY RIGHT INSTEAD AND I LOST CONTROL OF THE WHEEL. I COULD NOT TURN IT BACK. THE CAR CROSSED FROM THE LEFT SIDE OF THE FREEWAY TO PAST THE RIGHT SIDE (ABOUT 4 LANES), HIT A RAILING, AND FLIPPED OVER. *TR
MY FAMILY AND I WERE OUT OF STATE ON A TRIP FOR A FUNERAL IN FEBRUARY. IT WAS VERY COLD WHERE WE WERE, SO I STARTED OUR CAMRY TO WARM UP THE CAR. HOWEVER, INSTEAD OF WARMING UP, IT ACTUALLY STARTED TO OVERHEAT DUE TO LOW COOLANT. SUSPECTING A CRACKED HOSE OR A RADIATOR ISSUE, I SEARCHED FOR THE LEAK, BUT COULD NOT FIND ONE. WE KEPT THE CAR FILLED WITH FLUID, WATCHED THE TEMP GAUGE LIKE A HAWK, AND LIMPED THE CAR HOME TO OUR MECHANIC. THANKFULLY, IT DIDN'T EVEN COME CLOSE TO OVERHEATING AGAIN THE ENTIRE TRIP HOME. WHEN I TOOK IT INTO THE SHOP, THEY SAID THAT IT WAS LEAKING FROM THE HEAD GASKET. UPON FURTHER INSPECTION, THE MECHANIC FOUND THAT THREE BOLTS NEAR THE HEAT SHIELD WERE NOT ONLY LOOSE, BUT ACTUALLY STRIPPED. THIS SOUNDED ODD TO ME. I HAVE AN 89 TOYOTA PICKUP THAT I BOUGHT BRAND NEW, AND IT IS STILL RUNNING LIKE A CHAMP 25 YEARS AND 250,000+ MILES LATER. I EXPECTED THE SAME KIND OF SERVICE LIFE FROM OUR WELL MAINTAINED CAMRY WITH LESS THAN 150,000. STRIPPED HEAD BOLTS JUST SOUNDED OFF TO ME FOR A TOYOTA, SO I DID AN ONLINE SEARCH. IMAGINE MY SURPRISE WHEN I FOUND WEB PAGE AND FORUM AFTER WEB PAGE AND FORUM DEDICATED TO THIS ISSUE ALONE. ONE SITE - CARCOMPLAINTS.COM - HAS 36 COMPLAINTS FILED ALREADY FOR JUST THE 2002 AND 2003 MODEL YEARS, AND THIS PROBLEM EXTEND TO ENGINES UP TO THE 2007 MODEL YEAR. ANOTHER WEB SITE - CAMRYFORUMS.COM - HAS 6 PAGES OF FORUMS DEDICATED TO THIS ISSUE. SIX PAGES. ALL OF THEM WITH THE SAME EXACT ISSUE - COOLANT LEAKS FROM THE STRIPPED HEAD BOLTS NEXT TO THE INSULATION. AND THERE ARE MORE SITES AND MORE FORUMS THAN JUST THOSE. CONSIDERING THAT ONLY A SMALL PERCENTAGE OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO FILE THESE KINDS OF COMPLAINTS OR POST ON AN ONLINE FORUM, THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS. I HAVE BEEN HARASSED ON THE ROADS OF LAS VEGAS BY SEVERAL PEOPLE WHO ARE HIRED BY 2 PEOPLE WHO HAVE HIRED PERSONAL AGENCIES TO FOLLOW ME AROUND THE CITY THIS HAS BEEN CONSTANT EVERY WHERE I GO THE TIME I LEAVE HOME TO WHEN I RETURN. I BELIEVE THAT THEY HAVE HIRED THE NSA & THEIR ARE AGENTS WHO RECEIVE MONEY BY THEM TO HARASS ME.THESE VEHICLES PORTRAY PLATE NUMBERS RELATED TO PEOPLE I HAVE ON MY FACEBOOK N TWITTER ACCOUNTS-THEY WILL USE BIRTHDATE,AGE NUMBERS O CELEBRITIES I HAVE ON MY ACCOUNT,EVEN THE PRESIDENT AND 1ST LADY, ME, MY DAUGHTER, HER DADDY. ITS RED CARS ALL THE TIME REPRESENTING THE DEVIL,THIS IS THE 3RD TIME I HAVE HAD TO CALL POLICE. I KNOW MY STALKERS NAMES WHO MAY HIRE THESE PEOPLE.THEY CALLED THE CITY ON ME, TOOK THE TAG OFF MY LICENSE PLATE,THE NEXT DAY I GOT A TICKET. MY LAST DRIVING JOB THEY MAY HAVE MADE THREATS TO HURT PASSENGERS,TRANSPORTATION VEHICLES N TRIED TO GET ME FIRED-ONE LIVES IN LAS VEGAS,THE OTHER IN LOS ANGELES AND IS A THREAT TO THE TRANSPORTATION INDUSTRY.I HAVE FILED POLICE REPORTS-THEY ALSO POST COMMENTS ON THEIR TWITTER ACCOUNTS O VEHICLES-PLANES,AND USE THEINTERNET TO COMMUNICATE MAKES AND MODELS TO FOLLOW AND HARASS US AND OUR CHILDREN. THEY ALSO HIRED VEHICLES WITH PLATE NUMBERS POSSIBLY REPRESENTING THE PRESIDENTS MOTORCADE NUMBER ON THE GOVT PLATES. IN JULY IN CALLY MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND I WAS LEFT WITHOUT A VEHICLE AND THEN HAD TO BE TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL DUE TO LOW POTASSIUM LEVELS AND MORE. THEY USE NUMBERS IN MY VIN TO COMMUNICATE ON THEIR ACCOUNT. I DIDN'T NOTICE THIS TIL NOW. *TR
2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AS SHE WAS DRIVING INTO A COVERED PARKING GARAGE, RETRIEVED HER PARKING TICKET AND PROCEEDED UP THE RAMP, THE ENGINE SUDDENLY REVVED TO A SPEED SHE COULD NOT CONTROL. SHE TRIED TO PUMP THE BRAKES, BUT TO NO AVAIL. SHE HIT A PARKED TRUCK AND THAT STOPPED THE VEHICLE, MOVING THE TRUCK APPROXIMATELY 6-8 FEET. THE CONSUMER STATED IT WAS PRACTICALLY A FRONT END COLLISION AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE INSURANCE COMPANY TOTALED THE VEHICLE. UPDATED 05/13/14*JB
THIS IS TO REPORT A FAILURE ON ENGINE MODEL #2AZ-FE (EFFECTS 2002-2007 CAMRYS, HIGHLANDERS AND RAV4) DUE TO STRIPPED CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE ENGINE. THERE IS AT LEAST ONE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED BY TOYOTA TSB2740 THAT RELATES TO THIS RECOGNIZED PROBLEM OF STEEL CYLINDER HEAD BOLTS STRIPPING OUT OF THE ALUMINUM ENGINE, ESPECIALLY ON THE FIREWALL OR BACKSIDE OF THE ENGINE POSSIBLY DUE TO A FOAM INSULATION PIECE TO PROTECT A PLASTIC MANIFOLD PART FROM HEAT. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THE FOAM PIECE ALLOWS A HEAT BUILD UP ON THE ENGINE SIDE. THE COSTS TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM WAS $2,131. AND INCLUDES MACHINING THE WARPED HEAD, NEW HEAD GASKET AND BOLTS AND A LONG THREAD INSERT SET. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED TO LEARN THAT TOYOTA KNEW YEARS AGO OF THIS DESIGN PROBLEM AND ISSUED A TSB; BUT DID NOT RECALL FOR A SOLUTION BEFORE THIS LED TO METAL FAILURE AND ENGINE OVERHEATING. MANY OF THESE ENGINES WILL FAIL AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD OF 60K HAS EXPIRED. IF YOU HAVE ANY SUGGESTIONS AS TO REMEDIES WITH TOYOTA CORP FOR THIS FAILURE, I WOULD APPRECIATE KNOWING ABOUT IT. I AM GLAD TO REPORT THIS AS I SEE THAT MANY, MANY ENGINE FAILURES HAVE BEEN CAUSED BY THIS BASICALLY UNADDRESSED DESIGN PROBLEM. THANK YOU. *TR
HAD A PROBLEM WITH WHEEL BEARING FRONT PASSENGER. IN FEBRUARY 2013 HAD A FRONT END ALIGNMENT AND 4 NEW TIRES. STARTING HEARING A BANGING NOISE IN REAREND OF CAR IN NOVEMBER 2013. MECHANIC SAID IT WAS A BUSHING. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT IN JANUARY2014 TO HAVE THIS REPLACED. ON MONDAY DECEMBER 16, 2013 I WAS DRIVING ON A TWO LANE INTERSTATE AND HAD NO CONTROL OF MY CAR. I ALMOST WENT INTO A POLE AND TRIED TO SWERVE TO AVOID A PASSING PICKUP TRUCK ON MY LEFT. I FELT LIKE I WAS DRIVING ON ICE. THE CAR WOULD GO OVER A BUMP OR TRY TO MAKE A CORNER AND IT WOULD SWAY TO THE LEFT. DROVE 15 MPH HOME AND DROVE TO MY MECHANIC . HE SAID THE STEERING RODS IN THE REAR ARE JUST LOOSE AND FELL OUT. MY CAR IS TEMPORARY WELDED TO DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP IN WHICH I STILL HAVE A NOTE. I PURCHASED THE CAR MARCH 31ST 2011. *TR
DRIVER AIRBAG FAILED TO DEPLOY WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN FRONTAL PASSENGER SIDE CRASH. THIS CRASH WAS SEVERE ENOUGH TO DESTROY FRONT BUMPER, HEADLIGHTS, HOOD, PASSENGER SIDE FENDER, WHEEL/ TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOTAL LOSS. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED SEVERE INJURIES TO FACE & EYES WITH SEVERAL FACIAL FRACTURES, BROKEN NOSE WHEN FACE IMPACTED THE STEERING WHEEL. UPDATED 12-13-13 *BF UPDATED 12/18/13
2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO ENGINE PROBLEMS. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE SEEMED HARD TO START. IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS MISFIRING. THE AIR CONDITION STOPPED WORKING, THE VEHICLE OVERHEATED AND STARTED SMOKING PROFUSELY. WHEN THE CONSUMER ARRIVED HOME, SHE DISCOVERED THERE WAS NO COOLANT IN THE RADIATOR. SHE FILLED THE RADIATOR WITH COOLANT AND MANAGED TO GET THE VEHICLE TO HER LOCAL MECHANIC. THE MECHANIC FOUND A BAD AIR CONDITION FAN, NO FREON IN THE SYSTEM, AND THE RADIATOR WAS LEAKING. THE CONSUMER PAID $1200.00 TO FIX THE ISSUES. HOWEVER, AFTER DRIVING 10 MILES, THE AC STOPPED WORKING, THE ENGINE OVERHEATED AND SMOKE WAS EMITTING FROM THE ENGINE, AGAIN. ALSO, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED TWO YEARS PRIOR, BUT DESPITE HAVING 3 DIFFERENT MECHANICS INSPECT THE VEHICLE, THE COMPUTER DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM, INDICATED NO PROBLEM. IT WAS RE-SET 3 TIMES, BUT EVENTUALLY CAME BACK ON EVERY TIME. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CYLINDER HEADS WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE FAILURE WAS CONFIRMED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED ABOUT THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE AND VIN WERE UNAVAILABLE.
MY DAUGHTER WAS RETURNING HOME FROM COLLEGE AND LOST CONTROL OF HER VEHICLE ON I-85 IN SOUTH CAROLINA, CROSSED THE MEDIAN AND CRASHED INTO TWO TRACTOR TRAILERS AND DIED AT THE SCENE. SOUTH CAROLINA HIGHWAY PATROL INVESTIGATED THE ACCIDENT AND DETERMINED SHE WAS TRAVELING IN EXCESS OF 90 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE ACCIDENT. THIS IS NOT A SPEED MY DAUGHTER WOULD TRAVEL AT. WITNESSES ALSO SAID SHE WAS PASSING PEOPLE ON THE EMERGENCY LANE ON THE RIGHT SIDE WHILE TRAVELING AT A HIGH SPEED, WHICH IS SOMETHING SHE WOULD NOT DO EITHER. I BELIEVE THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING AND SHE COULD NOT STOP IT AND WAS DRIVING ON THE SHOULDER TO AVOID HITTING ANYONE WITH HER OUT OF CONTROL CAR. THE EMERGENCY LANE ENDED AND SHE HAD TO RE-ENTER THE TRAVEL LANE BUT LOST CONTROL AND CROSSED THE MEDIAN. MY DAUGHTER HAS BEEN DRIVING FOR TWO YEARS AND HAS THOUSANDS OF MILES OF EXPERIENCE AND WOULD NOT DRIVE IN THIS MANNER, UNLESS SHE COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE. SHE COMPLETED DRIVERS EDUCATION AND HAS HAD NO MOVING VIOLATIONS OF ANY KIND SINCE SHE HAS BEEN DRIVING. *TR
I WAS DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPOT. AS I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. UNDER MY FOOT, THE GAS PEDAL MOVED ON ITS OWN, SPEEDING UP TO FRIGHTENING INTENSITY. MY FIRST ATTEMPT TO BRAKE DID NOT DISENGAGE THE ACCELERATION. I CONTINUED TO APPLY PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE. FINALLY, THE ABS KICKED IN (I FELT THE PULSATING OF THE BRAKING) AND CAR STOPPED, AFTER GOING OVER A CONCRETE PARKING BARRIER, A CURB, UP AN INCLINE AND STRIKING A 6 FOOT TALL COMMERCIAL FENCE. THE IMPACT PUSHED OVER THE FENCE TO ABOUT A 75 DEGREE ANGLE. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHICH EXAMINED THE CAR (THEY SAID), CHECKED FOR "CODES" REGARDING MY MODEL AND TOLD ME THERE IS NO PROBLEM.
2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND AIR BAGS MALFUNCTION. *SMD THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED, AND AS HE WAS PREPARING TO EXIT THE PARKWAY, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED, DESPITE THE APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE. HE LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, AND CONSEQUENTLY HE HIT A GUARD RAIL AND THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED A DEEP LACERATION TO HIS KNEE.
I WAS DRIVING IN THE MIDDLE LANE OF THE FREEWAY AT 6:30 AM, WHEN I PROCEEDED TO ACCELERATE ON THE GAS THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I THEN PULLED OVER AND LIFTED THE HOOD TO SEE IF ANYTHING WAS OUT OF PLACE. I DID NOT SEE ANYTHING, SO I VEERED BACK ONTO THE FREEWAY AND THE CAR ACCELERATED A LITTLE BUT NOT MUCH. AFTER A MILE I WAS DESCENDING ON THE GAS AND IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE ANYMORE. I KEPT PRESSING ON THE GAS AND THE CAR GOT SLOWER AND SLOWER AND FINALLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE LANE. I THEN GOT OUT OF THE CAR IN MORNING TRAFFIC AND PLACE THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND PUSHED IT TO THE SHOULDER OF THE FREEWAY WITH THICK ON GOING TRAFFIC. DRIVING WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL SET TO APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH. CARS AHEAD WERE STOPPING, SO THE CRUISE CONTROL CANCEL BUTTON WAS PRESSED. INSTEAD OF THE CAR DECELERATING, IT QUICKLY ACCELERATED AS IF THE GAS PEDAL HAD BEEN PRESSED TO THE FLOOR. THE BRAKES WERE QUICKLY PRESSED, BUT BEFORE THE CAR CAME TO A STOP, IT HIT THE REAR END OF THE CAR AHEAD. I HAVE A 2003 TOYOTA SOLARA SLE V6. I HAVE BEEN HAVING AN ISSUE WITH MY CAR, WHERE THE SPEEDOMETER STOPS WORKING WHILE DRIVING. IT HAPPENS FREQUENTLY, BUT WITHOUT WARNING. DEALER STATED THAT MY I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. I ASKED WHAT WAS THE ISSUE AND THEY STATED THAT MY HEAD GASKETS WERE BLOWN. I ASKED THE DEALER COULD THEY REPAIR THE HEAD GASKETS AND THE ANSWER WAS I NEEDED A NEW ENGINE. GOT A SECOND OPINION WHO THEN TOLD ME THAT I HAD STRIPPED HEAD BOLTS AND CAR COULD BE REPAIRED. HAD CAR REPAIRED AND THE CAR IS RUNNING FINE 173,000. I STARTED DOING RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND LITERALLY I FOUND HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THIS SAME ISSUE. I PROCEEDED TO CALL TOYOTA (TWICE) AND THE SECOND CALL DID ADMIT THAT THERE WAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ISSUED IN NOV 2011 ALERTING THE DEALERS HOW TO REPAIR THE STRIPPED HEAD BOLTS. I COULD NOT BELIEVE HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE HAVING THIS ISSUE AND THE FACT THAT THIS IS A DEFECT IN THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE 2.4 ENGINE FOR THE 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. TOYOTA WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE WAS A MAJOR DEFECT WITH THIS YEARS CAMRY. AND WHAT IS FURTHER MORE DISHEARTENING IS THAT THE REPRESENTATIVE AT TOYOTA SAID THAT I SHOULD EXPECT TO MAKE REPAIRS ON MY CAR WITH THE TYPE OF MILEAGE I HAVE. IT WAS AN UNUSUALLY COLD DAY FOR OCTOBER AND I WAS DRIVING MY SON TO SCHOOL WITH MY THREE YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IN HER CAR SEAT WHEN THE HEAT WOULD NOT WORK. ONLY COLD AIR CAME OUT OF THE VENTS. AFTER INSPECTION I WAS TOLD THAT THE HEAD GASKET PULLED OUT OF THE BLOCK AND THAT IT WAS BECAUSE IT WAS AN ALUMINUM BLOCK. THEY ARE NOT MADE OUT OF STEEL ANYMORE. PREVIOUS TO THIS INCIDENT, I EXPERIENCED ABSOLUTELY NO SYMPTOMS THAT MY TOYOTA'S ENGINE WAS GOING TO MALFUNCTION. MY CAMRY'S ENGINE IS SHOT. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER AND WAS TOLD THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD HELP ME WITH. I WAS ACTUALLY CRYING WHEN I SPOKE WITH THE REPRESENTATIVE. I HAVE BEEN A PROUD OWNER OF TWO CAMRYS. MY DAUGHTER DRIVES A 1995 CAMRY THAT IS STILL RUNNING VERY WELL AND MY MOTHER IS DRIVING A 1999 CAMRY THAT SHE HAS HAD NO ENGINE ISSUES WITH. APPARENTLY, THIS IS A NEWER MODEL DEFECT. MY CAMRY HAS BEEN PAID OFF SINCE NOVEMBER OF 2011. I WAS LOOKING FORWARD TO HAVING ANOTHER 100,000 MILES OF USE OUT OF IT. I AM MAKING THIS REPORT FOR MY MOTHER, WHO WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT IN WHICH SHE HIT THE BACK OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. SHE WAS GOING APPROXIMATELY 40-45 MPH AND RAN INTO A STOPPED VEHICLE. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN THERE WAS A NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. ALSO, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS LEAKING COOLANT FLUID. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE ENGINE HEAD BOLT STRIPS ITSELF CAUSING THE COOLANT TO LEAK OUT AND BLEW THE HEAD GASKET. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 135,000.

THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 142,740 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 142,754.

I HAVE 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY LE.. I GOT INTO MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THE VEHICLE. FIRST ONE IS THE SUN ROOF/MOON ROOF GETTING JAMMED AND NOT CLOSING PROPERLY RESULTING IN WATER LEAK AND AS WELL AS HIGH CABIN NOISE. DEALER TOLD IT WILL COST 2000 + TO FIX THE SUNROOM/MOON ROOF AS THIS NEED TO BE REPLACED COMPLETE. ALSO WHILE DOING THE 110000 SERVICE DEALER SAID THE FRONT AND RARE SUSPENSION SYSTEM NEEDS TO BE REPLACED WHICH WILL COST 2000 + USD. A PHENOMENON KNOWN AS "TIN WHISKERS" WITHIN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND POSSIBLY OTHER VEHICLE ELECTRONICS MAY BE A CAUSE FOR CONCERN. THE NASA REPORT DEFINED "TIN WHISKERS" AS ELECTRONICALLY CONDUCTIVE, CRYSTALLINE STRUCTURES OF TIN THAT SOMETIMES GREW FROM SURFACES WHERE TIN; ESPECIALLY ELECTROPLATED WAS USED AS A FINAL FINISH. IN A SEPARATE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION VEHICLE STUDY OF A 2003 TOYOTA CAMRY CONDUCTED LAST FALL, A NASA EXPERT EXAMINED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY AND FOUND TWO "TIN WHISKERS" INSIDE. HE CONCLUDED THAT, ALTHOUGH THE VEHICLE OPERATED, IT WAS NOT CONSIDERED TO BE DRIVABLE. *JB
