THIS FIRST PORTION OF THE DESCRIPTION IF AN ENGLISH TRANSLATION FROM THE LATTER PART, WHICH WAS RECEIVED IN SPANISH. Complaint to NHTSA – Unresolved Recall on 2021 Toyota Camry I own a used 2021 Toyota Camry purchased from an authorized Toyota dealer. After purchase, I discovered that the vehicle has an open recall related to the airbag system. According to information from NHTSA, there is currently no solution available from the manufacturer. My concern is twofold: 1. The vehicle makes a constant daily noise, apparently related to the problem reported in the recall, which increases my distrust in the car's safety. 2. The dealership did not inform me before purchase about the existence of this active, unrepaired recall, which I consider a serious lack of transparency and a safety risk to consumers. This puts me in a situation of road safety concerns, as I am driving a vehicle that does not meet minimum safety standards due to a defect recognized by the manufacturer, but with no available remedy. I request that NHTSA: Investigate the case and confirm whether Toyota and the dealership are complying with their notification and transparency obligations. Demand that the manufacturer provide a clear and timely solution to this recall, as consumers should not be driving a defective vehicle without alternatives. Strengthen consumer protection mechanisms so that no dealership can sell vehicles with open recalls and no repairs available without explicitly informing the buyer. I trust that NHTSA can intervene, as this is a public safety risk that affects not only me as the owner, but also my passengers and other drivers on the road. para NHTSA – Recall sin solución en Toyota Camry 2021 Soy propietario de un Toyota Camry 2021 (usado) adquirido en un concesionario oficial de Toyota. My airbags didn’t deploy when chevy Silverado truck and collided into front end drivers side. Speed was 35 mph whole hood of my car is shifted and drives side front end is demolished. It’s been reported to at fault insurance and is supposed to go into body shop on the 16th of June. So available for inspection until then? There is a police report but not sure about inspection? No warnings or messages. I have whiplash and possible concussion
Lack of solution for old recall
I was involved in a multi-impact collision while driving my 2021 Toyota Camry. Certified crash data from the Airbag Control Module (ACM) confirms five crash events including a frontal collision (delta-V of -9.3 mph) and a rollover (roll angle 9.8°, roll rate 45.6°/sec). Despite these conditions, no airbags deployed—not the frontal, knee, or curtain airbags. The driver was belted, there was no airbag warning light, and power was maintained. Toyota later stated the system worked “as designed” and found no defects. However, federal safety standards (FMVSS No. 208 and 226) suggest this type of crash should have triggered the airbags, especially due to the frontal delta-V and verified rollover. I request a formal investigation. Crash report available upon request.
Dear NHTSA Safety Team, I am submitting this complaint to bring attention to an unresolved safety recall issue on my 2021 Toyota Camry SE – SEDAN 4DR (VIN: [XXX] ), which I purchased used in July 2023. The dealership that sold me the vehicle failed to inform me of the open recall, and I later learned that it involves the airbag system—a critical safety component. After checking my VIN, I confirmed that the recall is officially registered as: - NHTSA Recall Number: 23V865 - Manufacturer Recall Number: 23TB15 - Date Issued: December 20, 2023 - Recall Status: Recall Incomplete – Remedy Not Yet Available According to the recall summary, the issue involves potentially defective Occupant Classification System (OCS) sensors in the front passenger seat, which may have been improperly manufactured. This defect can result in the airbag failing to deploy as designed in certain crashes, thereby increasing the risk of injury to passengers. Toyota has not yet made a remedy available and only estimates a solution might arrive by Quarter 3 of 2024, which remains uncertain due to parts availability. In the meantime, I have been unable to refinance my vehicle due to this unresolved recall, and this situation has directly impacted my financial health. This is not only a severe safety risk but also a major consumer protection concern. I urge NHTSA to take swift action to ensure that Toyota expedites the availability of the remedy and prevents further financial and safety consequences for affected consumers. Thank you for your attention to this matter. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
I was hit from the rear while my vehicle was at a stop. The vehicle was going estimated 50mph and moved my vehicle about 12 feet colliding with the vehicle in from of me. I would think the impact of the front collision should have been enough to have the airbags deploy. The camry was totaled.
