TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED TOYOTA RECALL NOTICE 08V162000 VISIBILITY: GLASS, SIDE/REAR A COUPLE MONTHS AGO. SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER ON JULY 21, 2010 AND WAS STATED THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE RECALL SINCE THE GLASS WAS LOOSE. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO NOTIFY HER INSURANCE COMPANY. THE MANUFACTURER WILL BE NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 46,000.
I HAVE A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA AND HAVE NOTICED A CONSTANT PROBLEM WITH THE CAR VEERING WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT SPEEDS OVER 50 - 60 MPH. I AM A CAREFUL DRIVER SO IT'S NOT ME! IT'S ESPECIALLY BAD WHEN GOING AROUND A CURVE OR WHEN A SEMI TRUCK PASSES ME, ESPECIALLY WHEN IT'S RAINING. I JUST HAD THE TIRES RE-BALANCED, ROTATED, AND THE BRAKE ROTORS RE-SURFACED, ALL OF WHICH THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN CLEVELAND TN CLAIMED WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT IT DID NOT. I TOOK A TRIP FROM CLEVELAND TN TO ATLANTA GA ON SATURDAY AND THE CAR WAS VEERING ALL OVER THE PLACE AT CERTAIN PARTS OF THE HIGHWAY. I SORT OF WONDER IF IT'S BECAUSE OF THE BODY DESIGN THAT TOYOTA STARTED USING IN THIS MODEL OF CAR BECAUSE IT SITS HIGHER UP OFF OF THE ROAD THAN PREVIOUS COROLLAS, AND EVEN HIGHER THAN A HONDA ACCORD WHICH IS A BIGGER CAR. IT'S EITHER JUST FAULTY BODY DESIGN OR A STEERING PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON CRUISE CONTROL ON A HIGHWAY (APPROX. 60MPH) IN MY 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA S. SUDDENLY, IT STARTED ACCELERATING ON ITS OWN AND STARTED SWERVING. I HIT THE BRAKE PEDAL AND ATTEMPTED TO COUNTER-STEER BUT LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR AND CRASHED FRONT-END INTO THE GUARD RAIL, THEN THE CAR STARTED SPINNING AND I BELIEVE IT MUST HAVE HIT THE GUARD-RAIL FURTHER DOWN. THE FRONT IS DEMOLISHED, THE DRIVER SIDE WAS BENT IN SO COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR FULLY, THE BACK BUMPER WAS GONE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE WAS HEAVILY SCRATCHED. THE AIRBAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. *TR
WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK IN A MALL PARKING LOT AT A LOT SPEED, THE ENGINE ACCELERATED WITHOUT USING THE GAS PEDAL. THIS OCCURRED TWICE WITHIN A SPAN OF 30 MINUTES. I WAS ABLE TO APPLY THE FOOT BRAKE, EMERGENCY BRAKE AND SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK WITHOUT INCIDENT. THEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF. I THEN STARTED THE CAR AFTER SHUTTING IT DOWN AND THE CAR RAN NORMALLY. *TR
EXACTLY APPEARANCE AS IN CONSUMER COMPLAINT: ODI CASE NUMBER: 10311317. I AM WRITING TO LET PEOPLE KNOW THAT I HAVE RESOLVED AN ISSUE MYSELF BECAUSE I KNOW THAT NETHER DEALERSHIP NOR PRIVATE MECHANICS WOULD NOT HAVE SUFFICIENT TIME TO PROPERLY TROUBLESHOOT AN ISSUE. I WOULD GUESS THAT THERE IS A DESIGN FLAW IN TOLERANCES BETWEEN GUIDES OF BRAKE PADS AND CYLINDER SLOTS. PADS ARE TOO TIGHT SITTING IN CYLINDER, CAUSING EXCESSIVE FORCE TO BRAKE AND GETTING THEM ALMOST GET STACKED CLOSE TO ROTOR. THIS CAUSING UNEVEN ROTOR WORMING, VIBRATION AND HUMMING SOUND. IT IS REALLY DANGEROUS. USING GRINDER I HAVE REDUCED THE SIZE OF PAD GUIDES. 2 MINUTES OF WORK. ISSUE IS GONE AND NEVER RECURRED. *TR
2003 TOYOTA COROLLA SEDAN BRAKES VIN# [XXX] BRAKES ARE SURGING FORWARD. HAVE TAKEN TO MECHANIC GARAGE AND TWICE TO TOYOTA DEALER AND NOTHING CAN BE IDENTIFIED. BRAKE ISSUE HAPPENS ONCE A WEEK OR EVERY SO MANY MILES. VERY DANGEROUS WHEN DRIVING AS THERE IS NO INDICATION AS TO WHEN OR WHERE THIS WILL HAPPEN. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE APPROACHED A STOP SIGN, BOTH FRONT AIR BAGS SUDDENLY DEPLOYED AND THE HORN BEGAN TO SOUND. THE HORN STOPPED FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THE AIR BAGS BEGAN TO MAKE A "POPPING SOUND" AND THE HORN BEGAN TO SOUND AGAIN. A BYSTANDER DISCONNECTED THE HORN AND THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER TO BE REPAIRED. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED WHEN THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. A CLAIM WAS FILED WITH THE INSURANCE COMPANY; YET, IT WAS DENIED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 200,000. POWER WINDOW RECALL FROM TOYOTA IS STILL DEFECTIVE. TOYOTA ATTEMPTED TO REPAIR THE RECALL FOR THE POWER WINDOW RECALL FOR COMPONENT : VISIBILITY:POWER WINDOW DEVICES AND CONTROLS VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR AND YET WHEN THEY REPAIR IT STILL COMES BACK. THEY REFUSE TO TIGHTEN THE BOLTS AGAIN. THIS IS DANGEROUS AS IT CAN BREAK AGAIN ANYTIME CAUSING DEATH, ACCIDENTS, OR SERIOUS INJURY! TOYOTA OF GLENDALE IN CA REFUSED TO REPAIR MY RECALL AFTER IT RECURRED(ALL THEY HAD TO DO IS TIGHTEN THE BOLTS). [XXX] CALL ME IF YOU HAVE THE SAME ISSUE AND WE CAN HAVE A NEW RECALL ON TOYOTA. THE INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES OF THE 2003 COROLLA S HAVE CHROME PLATING THAT PEELS WITH NORMAL USE. THE PEELING CHROME IS SHARP AND HAS CAUSED LACERATION INJURY TO THOSE USING THE HANDLES. THE HANDLES NEED TO BE REPLACED WHICH REQUIRES TAKING THE DOOR APART. MY REAR DOOR HANDLES WERE REPLACED IN 2006 AT MY EXPENSE AND NOW BOTH FRONT DOOR HANDLES NEED REPLACING IMMEDIATELY SO AS TO AVOID FURTHER INJURY. THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT AND THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT NEED TO PAY. *TR
I WAS PARKED (MOTOR RUNNING) IN MY 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA IN FRONT OF A FRIENDS HOUSE WAITING FOR HIM TO PICK ME UP AND GO TO LUNCH WHEN MY AIRBAGS DEPLOYED . MY WINDSHIELD WAS BROKEN AND I WAS HIT IN THE FOREARM BY THE BAG. I NEED YOUR GUIDANCE ON DETERMINING THE WHAT CAUSED THIS SITUATION AND HOW TO PROCEED WITH THE REPAIRS. I HAVE TALKED TO TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVES HERE IN PUERTO RICO AND THEY ADVISED ME THEY HAD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE INCIDENT AND IF I WANTED TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE AIRBAGS TO DEPLOY I WOULD HAVE TO DO IT ON MY OWN. BECAUSE I AM NOT A MECHANIC I TOLD THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVES I WOULD CONTACT YOU TO REPORT THE INCIDENT AND THEIR ASSERTION THEY HAVE NO RESPONSIBILITY AT ALL REGARDING THIS MATTER. THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE SEAT BELT NOT RETRACTING. I HOPED WHEN I TOOK MY CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR THE RECENT SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE RECALL THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THE SEAT BELT WOULD BE FIXED TOO. THIS WAS NOT THE CASE THE TENSION IS NOT RIGHT ON THIS SEAT BELT AND MANY TIMES THE SEAT BELT BECOMES SO LOOSE WHEN I AM PARKING MY CAR, I CAN'T CLOSE MY CAR DOOR WITHOUT MOVING MY SEAT BELT MECHANISM OUT OF THE WAY. *TR
MANUAL TRANSMISSION FAILED ON MY 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA AND LOCKED UP. I HAVE REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION ALREADY AND IT IS MY SECOND TRANSMISSION AND IS MY SECOND INCIDENT. IT LOCKS UP AND COMES TO A SUDDEN STOP.
The contact owned a 2003 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while she was driving at 60 MPH, another vehicle crashed into the driver's side of the vehicle. The air bags did not deploy. The contact was transported to the hospital by the emergency unit. The contact sustained a herniated disc. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The contact received an unknown recall notification for the air bag failure and the recall repair was completed by the dealer. The contact stated she received a second and third unknown recall notification for the air bag failure and the recall repair was completed by a second dealer (Thousand Oaks Toyota 2401 Thousand Oaks Blvd, Thousand Oaks, CA 91362), however, the failure persisted. The contact stated while her son was driving at 40-50 MPH, another vehicle crashed into the passenger side of the vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. The contact's son sustained back injuries and sought medical assistance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to a tow lot, where it was totaled. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 120,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT ABRUPTLY STOPPED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT REAR ENDED THE PRECEDING VEHICLE AND ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED AND METAL FRAGMENTS STRUCK THE CONTACT. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED FACIAL INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. THE CONTACT WAS UNAWARE OF THE INJURIES TO THE OCCUPANTS IN THE OTHER VEHICLES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED AND DEEMED DESTROYED. THE DEALER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 45 MPH, THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. SHE WAS UNABLE TO DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL SINCE THE RPMS BEGAN INCREASING EXCESSIVELY. THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND WOULD NOT STOP DESPITE HER ATTEMPTS TO APPLY THE BRAKES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND CONTINUE TO APPLY THE BRAKES. THERE WAS SMOKE PRESENT IN THE VEHICLE AS IT BEGAN TO DECREASE IN SPEED TO 15 MPH. SINCE THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, SHE THEN JUMPED FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE AS THE VEHICLE PROCEEDED AND PLOWED INTO A SNOW BANK BEFORE STOPPING. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED SUBSTANTIAL BODY DAMAGE. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS DESTROYED DUE TO HER SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL GEAR FROM THE PARK POSITION. THE TRANSMISSION WAS REPLACED AND A REPRESENTATIVE FROM TOYOTA WAS SCHEDULED TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE THE FAILURE. THE INVESTIGATOR COULD FIND NO FAILURES WITHIN THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 110,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 118,000.

THE CONTACT HAD TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND TO COAST TO THE NEAREST GAS STATION. THE DRIVER ALSO STATED THAT FAILURE CAUSED HER AXLE TO BREAK. A LOCAL MECHANIC STATED THAT HE HAS NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THAT BEFORE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE AROUND 90,000.
2003 TOYOTA COROLLA LE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION 4 DOOR. FIRST TIME INCIDENT. WESTBOUND HIGHWAY 401 NEAR WOODSTOCK ONTARIO WITH CRUISE CONTROL @ 100 KMH IN RIGHT LANE AND SLIGHTLY ACCELERATED TO MIDDLE LANE TO AVOID MERGING INCOMING TRAFFIC FROM ROADSIDE GAS STATION. ACCELERATOR PEDAL WENT TO FLOOR WITHOUT DRIVER ASSISTANCE. STRONG BRAKING DID NOT STOP CAR. STOMPING ON ACCELERATOR DID NOT STOP CAR. TURNING OFF CRUISE CONTROL DID NOT STOP CAR. FASTEST SPEED WAS 150KMH @ 7500 RPM. SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND WHEN SPEED AT 120KMH @ 4000 RPM, THE BRAKES STARTED WORKING. SLOWED AND PULLED OFF ONTO SHOULDER AND PARKED THE CAR. TWO MINUTES LATER, STILL IN PARK, IDLED AT 1900 RPM. ABLE TO DRIVE TO WORK. OVER THE PHONE, DAN FROM COMPETITION TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT PROBABLY THE THROTTLE BOX OR THROTTLE CABLE HAD BECOME GUMMED UP AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN CLEANED AS PART OF THE TOYOTA 60,000KM MAINTENANCE. I HAVE NOT USED TOYOTA DEALER TO SERVICE THE CAR DUE TO AFFORDABILITY. I DO HAVE A REGULAR MECHANIC WHO SERVICES THE VEHICLE. TOOK IT INTO COMPETITION TOYOTA AND PROBLEM WAS A DIRTY THROTTLE PLATE WHICH WAS CLEANED AT A COST OF $70. DEALER ALSO DID A RECALL REPAIR ON A WINDOW AND SAID THERE WERE TOO MANY MATS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE WHICH SHOULD BE REMOVED. I TOLD DAN THAT DRIVER MATS WERE NOT THE CAUSE AND IN THE PRESENCE OF TWO TOYOTA EMPLOYEES, I SHOWED HIM PHOTOS THAT I TOOK OF THE DASHBOARD JUST AFTER I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. I ASKED IF THE CAR WAS SAFE TO DRIVE, HE SAID YES, AND I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE CAR SINCE. REPORTED THIS INCIDENT TO TRANSPORT CANADA. *TR
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING OUR 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA THIS MORNING WHEN SHE REPORTED THAT THE CARS BRAKES DIDN'T APPEAR TO WORK PROPERLY. THIS RESULTED IN A PROPERTY DAMAGE CRASH INTO A GUARDRAIL. IT WAS A FRONTAL CRASH INTO A GUARDRAIL AT LOW TO MODERATE SPEED, THE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. *TR
THE CRUISE CONTROL ON MY WIFE'S 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS ACTED UP ON OCCASION WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS. WHEN USING "RESUME" THE CAR WOULD ACCELERATE WELL PAST THE PREVIOUS SET POINT. MOSTLY THIS WAS A MINOR ANNOYANCE AS THE CAR DOESN'T HAVE A BIG ENOUGH ENGINE TO TAKE OFF LIKE A ROCKET, AND SWITCHING OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL AND RESTARTING IT SEEMS TO CURE THE PROBLEM. I NEVER WAS ABLE TO FIGURE OUT THE SEQUENCE THAT WOULD RELIABLY REPEAT THE PROBLEM AND PRETTY MUCH FIGURED WE'D LIVE WITH IT. (SHE DOESN'T USE CRUISE CONTROL AND I USE IT WHEN WE ARE TAKING TRIPS.) WITH THE RECENTLY IDENTIFIED CRUISE CONTROL PROBLEMS ON THE NEWER COROLLAS, I'M SUSPICIOUS THAT THE PROBLEM MAY GO BACK FURTHER THAN REPORTED. THIS PROBLEM HAS OCCURRED AT VARIOUS TIMES OVER THE PAST THREE OR FOUR YEARS(WHILE WE HAVE OWNED THE CAR), SO THE DATE INDICATED BELOW IS A DUMMY DATE TO GET TOT THE NEXT SCREEN. *TR
I OWN A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA S MANUAL THAT FOR THE FIRST TIME IN 9 YEARS HAS ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. I STARTED THE CAR AND PUT IT IN THE FIRST GEAR AND IT DROVE NORMALLY, BUT WHEN PUSHED ON THE CLUTCH SWITCHING TO THE SECOND GEAR THE RPM WENT UP HIGH ABOVE 4000. I MADE SURE THAT I WASN'T PUSHING ON THE ACCELERATOR. I CHECKED IF THE FLOOR MAT WAS IN CONTACT WITH THE ACCELERATOR BUT IT WASN'T. I PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND TRIED TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM BUT THE RPM WAS GOING VERY HIGH AND MORE THAN NORMAL . SO I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE AND THE RPM WENT BACK TO NORMAL . NOTICING THAT THIS IS THE ONLY TIME HAS HAPPENED I WOULD LIKE TO INFORM TOYOTA ABOUT THE PROBLEM NOT ASKING FOR ANYTHING AT THIS MOMENT BUT IF I THE ISSUE IS STILL PERSISTING THEY MIGHT HAVE TO LOOK CLOSELY TO THE ISSUE. BECAUSE MY CAR HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION, I HAVE MORE CONTROL ON THE CAR THAN AN AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION( OPTION ON PUSHING ON THE CLUTCH) AND DISENGAGE THE ENGINE FROM THE TRANSMISSION FASTER, I HAVE LESS RISK IN BEING INVOLVED IN AND ACCIDENT UNLESS I NEED TO SUDDENLY STOP. I DROVE MY 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA IN HIGHWAY YESTERDAY, WHEN I TOOK BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN, THE CAR ACCELERATE INSTEAD OF STOP, AND LOST THE CONTROL TO HIT RIGHT SIDE OTHER CAR, AND THEN DROVE TO SNOW PILE. I'M NOT SURE IF THIS IS A DEFECT BUT I JUST WANT TO FILE A COMMENT I HAVE WITH MY VEHICLE. I HAVE A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA S MADE IN 7/2002. THE THING I HAVE EXPERIENCING AND STILL AM IS THAT MY VEHICLE WILL LURCH WHEN IT COMES TO A STOP AND ENGINE IDLE SPEED CHANGES WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS STOPPED. BY REFLEX, I SHIFTED INTO PARK OR SHUT TURNED OFF THE IGNITION KEY TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE. I REPORTED THE INCIDENTS TO LASSEN TOYOTA, ALBANY OREGON NO RESPONSE FROM THEM. THE 2006 TOYOTA HAD THE SAME INCIDENT OCCUR ONCE IN THE LAST FOUR YEARS. IT HAS THE SAME ENGINE AND EQUIPMENT AS THE 2003 MODEL I OWNED AND I REPORTED THE INCIDENT AGAIN TO LASSEN TOYOTA WITH NO RESPONSE. I AM ON MY GUARD NOW THAT I KNOW THIS OCCURS AND I DON'T PANIC AND KNOW HOW TO DEAL WITH IT, BUT ANYONE WHO DOESN'T KEEP A CLEAR HEAD AND KNOW WHAT TO DO INSTINCTIVELY COULD BE IN TROUBLE. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.

CONSUMER WRITES REGARDING FILING COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA CORPORATION FOR HEADLIGHTS MELTING AND ENTIRE ASSEMBLY NEEDING TO BE REPLACED *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK WHEN SHE TRIED TO USE THE REMOTE. I WAS DRIVING ALONG A RESIDENTIAL STREET (35 MPH) AND I WAS STOPPED AT A STOPLIGHT. WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED, I BEGAN ACCELERATING UPHILL. ONCE I REACHED MY DESIRED SPEED OF 35 MPH, I REMOVED MY FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO INCREASE IN SPEED (I WAS STILL TRAVELING UPHILL). I IMMEDIATELY PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL, PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. FIFTEEN MINUTES LATER, I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON AND THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY REVVED UP, ALTHOUGH MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR; BASED ON THE SOUND OF THE ENGINE, I WOULD ESTIMATE THAT IT SURPASSED 4000 RPM. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND 15 MINUTES LATER I TURNED THE CAR ON ONLY TO MEET WITH THE SAME RESULTS. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK DRIVER ARRIVED, HE NOTICED THAT THE THROTTLE VALVE WAS STUCK IN THE OPEN POSITION. HE CLOSED THE THROTTLE AND THIS FIXED THE PROBLEM. A FEW DAYS LATER, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO A TOYOTA DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT THERE WAS A KINK IN THE THROTTLE CABLE THAT MAY HAVE CAUSED IT TO GET STUCK. HOWEVER, THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO PROVIDE A DEFINITIVE DIAGNOSIS BECAUSE THE PROBLEM WAS NOT REPEATABLE AND, THEREFORE, DID NOT REPLACE THE CABLE. I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 6.5 YEARS AND THIS HAS ONLY HAPPENED TWICE (THE OTHER TIME WAS IN EARLY 2008 AND OCCURRED ON A HIGHWAY). IN LIGHT OF RECENT MEDIA REPORTS ON ACCELERATION PROBLEMS IN TOYOTAS, I MUST NOTE THAT I HAVE THE ORIGINAL FLOOR MATS AND THAT THEY ARE, AND ALWAYS HAVE BEEN, PROPERLY SECURED IN PLACE. I DID NOT NOTICE WHETHER OR NOT THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK, BUT I WAS ONLY TRAVELING 35 MPH, SO THE ACCELERATOR WAS NOT DEPRESSED ENOUGH TO GET CAUGHT UNDER THE FLOOR MAT.
