THE WHEEL COVERS ON THE 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA COME OFF WHEN THE CAR IS IN MOTION IN HIGHWAY DRIVING AND FLY INTO OTHER CARS. WE HAVE LOST 3 WHEEL COVERS TO DATE. THEY ARE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN THEY FLY OFF. MANY OTHER TOYOTA CARS WITH WHEEL COVERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. THE WHEEL COVER HAVE FLOWN OFF ON MULTIPLY DATES.
OUR COMPLAINT IS WITH A TIRE ON OUR CAR. THE TIRE IS A MIRADA BRAND, SPORT GTX, SIZE IS 195/65R15. DOT NUMBER IS 4UN9 WITH DATE CODE 6AH5111. TIRE IS MANUFACTURED IN THE PHILIPPINES. THE CAR IS A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA. TIRE WAS MOUNTED ON RIGHT REAR OF CAR WITH NOTHING IN CAR BUT DRIVER AND ONE(1) SUITCASE OF CLOTHES. TIRE BLEW OUT THE SIDEWALL AT APPROX.70 MPH ON INTERSTATE HWY. 26 WEST OF COLUMBIA, S.C. ON 7/7/2014. DRIVER HAD BEEN DRIVING ABOUT 2.5 HOURS, ALL ON GOOD DRY AND CLEAN PAVEMENT, NO OBSTACLES WERE ENCOUNTERED TO RUN OVER AND DAMAGE TIRE IN ANY WAY, AND AIR PRESSURE IN TIRE WAS SUFFICIENT. TIRES WERE PURCHASED NEW AND HAD AT TIME OF FAILURE APPROX. 30K MILES. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN REST OF TRIP WITH SPARE INSTALLED, WE HAVE FAILED TIRE IN OUR POSSESSION. WE ARE CONCERNED WITH ANY LACK OF OVERSIGHT ON TIRES AND OTHER SAFETY RELATED PRODUCTS MANUFACTURED OUTSIDE OF THE U.S. AS THERE HAVE BEEN REPORTS OF FAILURES LIKE THIS IN THE PAST THAT I AM AWARE OF. TIRE SALES PEOPLE WHERE I PURCHASED THE SET ON OUR CAR HAS SAID THEY ARE UNABLE TO PURCHASE THESE TIRES ANY LONGER, SO WE HAD TO ACQUIRE A DIFFERENT BRAND TO REPLACE THE FAILED TIRE. *TR
JUST SAW ANOTHER COMPLAINT ABOUT TIRES, I HAVE A TIRE I HAVE TO PUT AIR IN EVERY 2-3 MONTHS. DIDN'T GIVE IT MUCH THOUGHT UNTIL I READ OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT TIRES. I KNOW I HADN'T DONE ANYTHING WRONG, IT HAPPENED TOO FAST. I'VE BEEN FILLING IT WITH AIR NOT THINKING ABOUT IT, BUT NOW I'VE HEARD OTHERS WITH TIRE ISSUES, I THOUGHT I'D BETTER SUBMIT AN INQUIRY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE VALVE STEMS ARE INSTALLED ON A SET OF SUMOTOMO TIRES. WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE TIRE WENT FLAT DUE TO A FAULTY VALVE STEM. HE CONTACTED THE DEALER IN REFERENCE TO THE FAILURE, AND WAS ADVISED THAT THEY WERE NOT AWARE OF A VALVE STEM RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE VEHICLE HAS FIRESTONE P195 TIRES. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65-70 MPH, THE REAR DRIVER'S SIDE TIRE BLEW OUT AND THE VEHICLE SWERVED UNCONTROLLABLY. THE DRIVER ALSO NOTICED DEBRIS COMING FROM THE TIRE. THE DRIVER PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD AND NOTICED THAT THE TIRE TREAD WAS COMPLETELY REMOVED. IN ADDITION, THE SHIELD THAT COVERS THE WHEEL WELL WAS DISINTEGRATED. THE DRIVER REPLACED THE TIRE WITH A SPARE AND DROVE THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO TWO LOCAL REPAIR SHOPS, BUT NO DIAGNOSTIC WAS PROVIDED FOR THE TIRE BLOW OUT. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE TIRE BE SHIPPED TO THEM FOR INSPECTION. AFTER THE INSPECTION, THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THEY WOULD INFORM HER OF THEIR DECISION. THE FIRESTONE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFUSED TO ASSIST HER WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE TIRE. THE TIRE SIZE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 36,994 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,203. UPDATED 03/23/09. *LJ UPDATED 03/23/09.*JB

MY 03 TOYOTA COROLLA WHEEL CAPS (HUB CAPS) FLEW OFF. IT HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. ONE FLEW OFF AT LOW SPEEDS AT MY SONS SCHOOL. IT ALMOST HIT A SCHOOL KID. HAVE BOUGHT 3 NEW CAPS AND IT'S RANDOM. IT LOOKS LIKE THE WHEELS CAPS DON'T LOCK DOWN TO WHEEL. *JB
I HAVE TOYOTA COROLLA 2003. FLETCHER JONES TOYOTA REPLACED ALL TIRES ON DECEMBER 11, 2004 AND INSTALLED NEW GOODYEAR TIRES ON THIS CAR. ON MAY 17, 2005 I DROVE THIS CAR ON HIGHWAY AT SPEED APPROXIMATELY 55 MILES/HOURS AND SUDDENLY LOSTED CONTROL. I REDUCED SPEED, BUT COULD NOT CONTROL CAR AND IT PULLED OFF THE ROAD AND STOPPED. THE LEFT REAR TIRE BECAME FLAT. I CONTACTED GOODYEAR (CLAIM #766745). IN ACCORDANCE WITH GOOODYEAR, NOTHING WRONG WITH TIRE. IT JUST LOSTED SEAL. THEY REFUSED TO REPLACE TIRE. GOODYEAR AUTHORIZED REPAIR FACILITY DIXIELAND (776 SOUTH BLAFF STREET, ST. GEORGE, UT 84770) RESEALED TIRE. TIRE SIZE IS 185-65-R15 AND IT IS NOT IN YOUR LIST.
THE CONSUMER WANTED TO ROTATE THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS JACKED UP FOLLOWED BY CHANGING THE TIRES. WHEN THE CONSUMER MADE AN ATTEMPT TO DISMOUNT THE TIRES FROM THE DRUMS, THE WHEEL/RIM WAS STUCK. THIS WAS A CHARACTERISTIC FOR ALL THE WHEELS. THE CONSUMER DISCOVERED THAT THE AXLE END WAS THE SAME SIZE AS THE CENTER HOLE IN THE WHEEL AND WAS FROZEN TOGETHER. THERE WAS A LITTLE HOLE IN THE CENTER OF THE DRUM, THAT WAS ADDING TO THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER HAD TO GET A HAMMER AND REPEATEDLY BEAT UPON THE WHEELS TO DISLODGE THEM. *AK *SC
