AIRBAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY IN A ACCIDENT WITH HARD IMPACT TO THE FRONT OF THE CAR. *TR
I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA MATRIX WITH DEFECTIVE AIRBAGS. I THINK IT IS APPALLING THE TOYOTA WITH THE BLESSING OF NHSTA IS ALLOWED TO CHOOSE WHICH VEHICLES TO RECALL ON THIS ISSUE BASED ON LOCAL HUMIDITY. ALTHOUGH VERMONT IS NOT AS HUMID AS GUAM WE CERTAINLY HAVE HIGH HUMIDITY DAYS AND WHAT IF SOMEONE BOUGHT MY CAR AND TOOK IT SOUTH? EITHER THEY ARE SAFE OR THEY ARE NOT SAFE AND WE KNOW THEY ARE NOT. I AM LEFT WITH NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO MAKE ALL PASSENGERS RIDE IN THE BACK SEAT TO PROTECT THEM, HOW MANY MORE DEATHS WILL BE NEEDED TO CHANGE THIS RULILNG AND...WILL IT BE SOMEONE THAT YOU OR I LOVE. *TR
PURSUANT TO TOYOTA'S WEBSITE, A RECALL EXISTS FOR MY VIN WHICH STATES, "IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH NECESSITATING DEPLOYMENT OF THE FRONT PASSENGER'S FRONTAL AIR BAG, THE INFLATOR COULD RUPTURE WITH METAL FRAGMENTS STRIKING AND POTENTIALLY SERIOUSLY INJURING THE PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPANT OR OTHER OCCUPANTS." A RELATED ARTICLE ON NHTSA'S WEBSITE INDICATES THAT OWNERS OF CARS WITH SUCH A RECALL ARE "URGED TO TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION." THE RECALL DATE WAS NEARLY FIVE MONTHS AGO (JUNE 10, 2014). I CALLED THE LOCAL DEALER (TOYOTA OF MANHATTAN) TO ENSURE THAT IF I BROUGHT THE CAR IN, A REPLACEMENT PART WAS IN STOCK, AND THEY TOLD ME THE CAR WOULD BE REPAIRED IF I BROUGHT IT IN. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN THE FOLLOWING DAY (10/28/14) AND WAS ADVISED HOURS LATER THAT THERE IS NO REMEDY YET FOR THIS RECALL. THIS WAS CONFIRMED BY A CALL TO TOYOTA, WHO TOLD ME, CONTRARY TO THE INFORMATION LINKED TO MY VIN ON THEIR WEBSITE, THAT THIS DOESN'T AFFECT MY VEHICLE. TOYOTA (AND ALL OTHER COMPANIES USING THE DEFECTIVE AIR BAGS AT ISSUE) SHOULD HAVE A REMEDY AVAILABLE FOR ALL OWNERS OF AFFECTED VEHICLES, AND SHOULD PROVIDE CONSISTENT INFORMATION BETWEEN THEIR WEBSITE, DEALER SERVICE SHOPS, AND PHONE CENTERS. LETTER FROM CONGRESSMAN ROYCE ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA AIRBAG RECALL (ATTN: LAUREN PONG). *SMD THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER HE HAD TO WAIT UNTIL TOYOTA SENT ANOTHER LETTER AUTHORIZING THE DEALER TO PERFORM THE RECALL. ALSO, THE PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE.
SAFETY RECALL DSB FROM TOYOTA IS FOR A FAULT IN THE ECU. I HAD THE PROBLEM DURING THE FIRST RECALL OVER A YEAR AGO BUT THEY HAD NOT REPLACED THE FAULTY ECU. I HAVE BEEN TALKING TO MULTIPLE TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS WHO HAVE BEEN TELLING ME THAT THE PART FOR THE RECALL IS NOT AVAILABLE AND KEEP HAVING ME CALL BACK EVERY 6 MONTHS. IT HAS BEEN WELL OVER A YEAR OF TRYING TO HAVE THE REPAIR DONE FOR A KNOWN PROBLEM ON MY CAR AND I HAVE GOTTEN NO ANSWERS AS TO WHEN THEY WILL HAVE PARTS. I DO NOT FEEL IT IS SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH A POTENTIAL OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYING AT ANY POINT. I FIND IT HARD TO BELIEVE THAT WELL OVER A YEAR AFTER THIS HAS HAPPENED TOYOTA STILL CAN DODGE PROVIDING PARTS FOR THE REPAIR.

THE LAST 3 TIMES THAT I TRIED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR MY RECALLS THE SERVICE WRITER AT KINGS TOYOTA IN CINCINNATI, OH WOULD NOT LET ME MAKE AN APPOINTMENT BECAUSE THEY ARE TOO BUSY. *TR

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK USING THE KEY, THE KEY FOB, OR MANUALLY. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT HAD TO ENTER THE VEHICLE THROUGH THE PASSENGER DOOR. TAKATA RECALL; I HAD AN APPOINTMENT WITH AUTONATION TOYOTA SOUTH AUSTIN IN OCTOBER 2014 TO FIX THE AIR BAG ISSUE. I ARRIVED AT MY APPOINTMENT AND WAITED FOR ABOUT 4-6 HOURS ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART THAT THEY NEEDED TO FIX MY CAR AND REMEDY THE RECALL ISSUE. THIS WAS AFTER THEY IDENTIFIED ALL KINDS OF OTHER PROBLEMS THAT THEY CLAIMED NEEDED TO BE FIXED. IT WAS INFURIATING THAT THEY WERE NOT UPFRONT ABOUT NOT HAVING THE PART WHEN I INITIALLY ARRIVED. THEY THEN TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD GIVE ME A RENTAL CAR BECAUSE OF THE OTHER SERVICES I AGREED TO BUT WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE RENTAL CAR COUNTER, THEY PROCEEDED TO CHARGE ME ALL THESE ADDITIONAL FEES. I CANCELLED THE ENTIRE REQUEST AND TOYOTA NEVER FIXED MY ISSUE. I COMPLAINED AND NEVER RECEIVED ANY KIND OF RESPONSE FROM THE DEALERSHIP. SEE ATTACHMENT. I STILL DRIVE MY CAR EVERYDAY WITH THE FAULTY AIR BAGS BECAUSE I DON'T HAVE TIME TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER 6 HOURS TO BE TOLD THAT THE DEALERSHIP DOES NOT HAVE THE PART. I ATTEMPTED TO SCHEDULE ANOTHER APPOINTMENT IN SAN MARCOS BUT THEY ALSO CLAIMED THEY WOULD NOT KNOW WHAT PART WAS NEEDED AND IF THEY HAD IT UNTIL THEY INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THEY HAVE THE VIN NUMBER SO I DON'T KNOW WHY IT'S SO COMPLICATED TO JUST ORDER THE PART AHEAD OF TIME SO MY CAR CAN BE FIXED ON THE DAY OF THE APPOINTMENT AND I DON'T HAVE TO MISS TWO DAYS OF WORK. THIS RECALL IS OBVIOUSLY NOT A PRIORITY FOR THE DEALERSHIPS YET I'M CONSTANTLY GETTING CALLS AND POSTCARDS THAT I NEED TO GET THE RECALL ISSUES FIXED. PERHAPS TOYOTA AND THE NHTSA SHOULD TRAIN THESE DEALERSHIPS TO MAKE THIS RECALL A PRIORITY. TIME PASSES AND I KEEP PUTTING MYSELF AT RISK WITH THESE FAULTY AIRBAGS AND AFTER THREE YEARS, I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVED PROPER SERVICE TO FIX THESE ISSUES IN AN EFFICIENT MANNER THAT DOESN'T LEAD TO 2 FULL DAYS OF LOSS OF PAY.
MY 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA HAD AN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. MY MOTHER (THE DRIVER AT THE TIME) REMOVED HER FOOT FROM THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND WHILE BRAKING THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT FULL SPEED RIGHT BEFORE GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP NEAR TO OUR RESIDENCE. MY MOTHER CRASHED INTO THE SIDE WALK AND SHE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE CAR USING THE PARKING BRAKE AND EVENTUALLY SHUT IT DOWN. WE WERE ABLE TO TAKE THE CAR HOME, WHERE THE CAR IS CURRENTLY PARKED BUT THE CAR WON'T START AGAIN. LUCKILY, WE DIDN'T HAVE ANY INJURIES, FIRE OR MAYOR CRASH INTO ANYTHING. WE CONTACTED TOYOTA IN WEST PALM BEACH FLORIDA AND THEY REFUSED TO FURTHER INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE BECAUSE THE CAR IS TOO OLD. AFTER ALL EVENTS, DEATH AND ACCIDENTS RELATED TO TOYOTA UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION, I BELIEVE THIS INCIDENT NEEDS A DEEP INVESTIGATION BUT I DON'T KNOW HOW TO PROCEED ABOUT IT OR IF I SHOULD IGNORED AND JUST FIX THE CAR. *TR

A RECALL IS IN PLACE OR 1.7 MILLION VEHICLES IN THE US, BUT DOESN'T COVER THE 2004 MATRIX (DOES COVER THE PONTIAC VIBE THOUGH). CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND FILED A COMPLAINT, BUT THEY CURRENTLY WON'T COVER REPLACEMENT AS MY MODEL YEAR ISN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND IS OUT OF WARRANTY. I BELIEVE MY CAR TO BE UNSAFE DUE TO MANUFACTURER'S FAULT AND BELIEVE REPAIR SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA. PLEASE HELP. *TR

I RECEIVED A SECOND SAFETY RECALL NOTICE FOR MY COROLLA, I SCHEDULED THE APPOINTMENT WITH AUTONATION TOYOTA IN LEESBURG FOR MONDAY, JUNE 23. WHEN I MADE THE APPOINTMENT A WEEK EARLIER, THE MECHANIC EVEN PUT ME ON HOLD TO CHECK HIS INVENTORY TO SEE THE PAR IS AVAILABLE. WHEN I SHOWED UP, THEY TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA HAS PUT A HOLD ON THIS RECALL. IS THAT CORRECT? I ASKED THEM WHY DIDN'T THEY CALL ME AND LET ME KNOW? THEY DIDN'T SEEM TO KNOW. *TR

THE CAR WAS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH STANDARD TRANSMISSION THAT HAD ~138,500 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF THE INCIDENT. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND THE ENGINE STARTED MAKING A LOUD RATTLING SOUND AS I SWITCHED INTO 4TH GEAR. THE RATTLING SOUND GOT WORSE AS I DROVE HOME FROM WORK, SO I TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC THE NEXT MORNING. HE DROVE IT HIMSELF AND SAID THAT THE PROBLEM WAS RELATED TO A LOOSENED BEARING IN THE TRANSMISSION AND THAT THE TRANSMISSION WOULD LIKELY NEED TO BE REPLACED. IT WAS NOT WORTH REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION ON A CAR THAT OLD SO I HAD TO BUY A NEW ONE. THE CAR WAS 10 YEARS OLD WITH SIGNIFICANT MILEAGE, BUT TOYOTA COROLLAS SHOULD LAST FOR MUCH LONGER THAN THIS. WAS TOLD THEY WOULD NOT HELP AS SUNROOF WAS AFTERMARKET AND THERE WAS NO EXISTING WARRANTY. I BOUGHT THE CAR NEW AND PAID TOYOTA. I RECIEVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE BACK IN 2013 STATING THAT MY VEHICLE REQUIRES INSTALLATION OF THE SUB-WIRE HARNESS AND REPLACEMENT OF THE SRS ECU. I HAVE TAKEN MY VEHICLE TO THE TOYAOTA DEALER AT LEAST 4 TIMES. STARTING FROM APRIL 2013 AND THE MOST RECENT FEBRUARY 28, 2016 AND EACH TIME THEY TELL ME THAT THE PARTS HAD BEEN ORDERED BUT MY CAR STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED.
