MY DRIVER SIDE WINDOW LOWERS ONLY PART WAY WHEN THE TEMPERATURE IS LOWER THAN 70O AND THE WINDOW RATTLES WHEN THE WINDOW IS RAISED. VIN 2T1BR3244C215045 I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER, AND SPOKE WITH MR. KARIN KNAN, UNDER TOYOTA CASE # 1011110634, WHO INSTRUCTED HE WOULD BE CONTACT YOU WITH MY ISSUE; THE PARTS WERE UNDER WARRANTY FOR 3 YEARS/36K. I JUST RECEIVED A CALL FROM MY SERVICE MANAGER, WHO STATED THAT THE REPAIR AND INVESTIGATION INVOLVED REMOVING THE DOOR PANEL AND VIEWING THE WINDOW REGULATOR AND BOLTS. REQUEST YOUR CONSIDERATION OF MY VEHICLE ISSUE, SIMILAR TO THE RECALL OF DEFECT INVESTIGATION EA08-004.
TL. THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE A RECALL REPAIR FOR THE VISIBILITY:GLASS, SIDE/REAR (08V162000). BEFORE TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER THE CONTACT STATED BOTH WINDOW HAD MALFUNCTIONED. THE DEALER PERFORMED THE RECALL REPAIR TO THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WINDOW BUT NOT THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW DUE TO EXTENSIVE DAMAGE THAT CAN NOT BE REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL. THAT CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WILL NOT STAY CLOSED. THE CONTACT STATED THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WAS CLOSED UPON ARRIVING TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED TO THE CONTACT THE REGULATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT STATED THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS SINCE THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. JO
CAR SUDDENLY STALLS, SOMETIMES WHILE AT A STOP BUT HAS HAPPENED WHEN MOVING. WON'T START FOR A LITTLE WHILE THEN WILL START. HAS HAPPENED 3-4 TIMES IN THE PAST 5 MONTHS. *TR
THE VEHICLE I BELIEVE HAS AN ECM (ENGINE CONTROL MODULE) PROBLEM. SINCE THE FIRST INCIDENT WHERE THE VEHICLE WANTED TO SHUT OFF AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE ERRATIC RPM FLUCTUATION WHEN THE VEHICLE IS AT A STOP OR HESITATES WHEN TAKING OFF. TOYOTA HAS DONE A RECALL ON SOME OF THE 2005 THRU 2008 MODELS AND I BELIEVE THIS MODEL SHOULD BE INCLUDED SINCE IT USES THE SAME ECM AND HAS THE SAME ENGINE AS THE OTHER MODELS
ON SEPT 1, 2010, MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA NORTH IN THE LEFT LANE(TWO LANES NORTH, TWO LANES GOING SOUTH) ON A STATE ROAD GOING APPROX. 35MPH. SHE WAS BEHIND A 2009 NISSAN ALTIMA. SUDDENLY FROM A COUNTY ROAD A 1995 LINCOLN MARK 8 PULLED OUT ON THE RIGHT TO CROSS THE STATE ROAD TURNING LEFT OR SOUTH. THE NISSAN SWERVED INTO THE RIGHT LANE GOING N. AND CLIPPED THE MARK 8 WHILE MY DAUGHTER SLAMMED ON HER BREAKS. THE CAR LOCKED UP, LEAVING SKID MARKS AND SHE T-BONED THE MARK 8. HER CAR WAS TOTALED. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. HER FRONT END WAS PUSHED TOWARD THE CABIN AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF OR MOVE. RESULTING IN SHOULDER, NECK, CHEST, BREAST, AND BACK INJURIES WITH A SWOLLEN TONGUE FROM BITING THE SIDES. THESE INJURIES ARE ALL SOFT TISSUE INJURIES WHICH WILL TAKE SOME TIME TO HEAL. SHE HAD A PASSENGER. HIS INJURIES WERE A RIGHT SWOLLEN LEG AND BACK INJURIES. (6 INJURED ALTOGETHER) MY DEEP CONCERN IS THE HISTORY ON THIS CAR IS TWO FRONTAL CAR CRASHES AND THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR
MY 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA SUDDENLY HAD ENGINE PROBLEMS WHILE DRIVING, MAKING A HORRIBLE METALLIC CLANKING AS THE CAR STALLED. AFTER HAVING IT TOWED TO THE NEAREST REPAIR FACILITY, THE DIAGNOSIS WAS THAT PIECES OF THE ENGINE LITERALLY BROKE APART AS IF THE METAL WAS FATIGUED. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT EXPLAIN HOW THIS HAPPENED WITH ONLY 117,000 MILES ON THE CAR. IT TOOK OVER A MONTH TO FIND A USED ENGINE AND SCRAPE TOGETHER THE MONEY NEEDED FOR REPAIRS. THE ENTIRE ENGINE WAS REPLACED, FOR A TOTAL OF $2500. I WAS ALSO FORCED TO RENT A CAR DURING THIS TIME, AND THE CAR RENTAL AMOUNT IS AROUND $600. *TR
THE 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA HAS A DEFECTIVE FUEL FILLER NECK. THE METAL USED BY TOYOTA FOR THIS FUEL FILLER NECK IS CORRODING, CAUSING LEAKAGE OF GAS VAPORS AT THE GAS CAP. THE LEAKAGE CAUSES THE "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT" TO COME ON, AND PEOPLE ARE FORCED TO PAY TOYOTA $400 FOR REPAIRS IN ORDER TO PASS EPA MANDATED EMISSIONS TESTING IN ORDER TO RENEW THE CAR'S REGISTRATION. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE FUEL FILLER NECK IS DEFECTIVE BECAUSE IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT THE REPLACEMENT ONES HAVE BETTER QUALITY METAL AND WON'T CORRODE. THE NHTSA NEEDS TO PRESSURE TOYOTA TO RECALL THE COROLLAS AND TO REIMBURSE THE OWNERS WHO HAVE BEEN FORCED TO PAY FOR THIS DEFECT IN THE DESIGN OF THE FUEL FILLER NECKS. IF THE EPA FORCES CARS TO PASS THE EMISSIONS TESTING, THEN THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD ALSO FORCE TOYOTA TO FIX AT THEIR EXPENSE A KNOWN DEFECT LIKE THE CORRODING METAL IN THE FUEL FILLER NECKS THAT AFFECTS THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM IN THEIR CARS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SEAT BELT FAILED AND WOULD NOT RELEASE FROM THE RETAINER CLIP. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE SEAT BELT CLIP ASSEMBLY FAILED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT THE CONTACTS WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED AND WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIRS. THE SEAT BELTS WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
CRUISE CONTROL CAN BE ACTIVATED AT TYPICAL ROAD/HIGHWAY SPEEDS EVEN WHEN CAR IS IN NEUTRAL (ON A MANUAL TRANSMISSION). AS A RESULT, THE ACCELERATOR IS ELECTRONICALLY DEPRESSED, CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV AND HIT THE REV LIMITER. THERE ARE MULTIPLE WAYS TO DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT THE STRESS COULD BE DAMAGING ON THE ENGINE AND THE SCENARIO COULD A MAJOR DISTRACTION TO THE DRIVER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND PROCEEDED INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC. THE CONTACT WAS STRUCK BY TWO OTHER VEHICLES AND HIS VEHICLE CAME TO A STOP. THE CONTACT SUFFERED INJURIES TO HIS RIBS. A POLICE REPORT WAS AVAILABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED BY THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY WHERE HE WAS AWAITING FURTHER INVESTIGATION INTO THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 61,000. TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING ON WET PAVEMENT AT APPROXIMATELY 25MPH,THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT DRIVER INTENT. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK BY TWO OTHER VEHICLES TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 55MPH TO 60MPH. THE AIR BAGS NEVER DEPLOYED. THE ILLINOIS STATE POLICE AND AMBULANCE RESPONDED. THE CONTACT WAS TAKEN TO THE HOSPITAL WITH MULTIPLE FRACTURES ON THE LEFT SIDE OF HIS BODY AND SEVERE BRUISING. THE CONTACT WAS IN THE HOSPITAL FOR TWO DAYS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE CONTACT HAD A COPY OF IT. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A CASE WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN INVESTIGATOR TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE ON JUNE 29, 2010. THE RESULTS OF THE INVESTIGATION WOULD NOT BE KNOWN FOR FOUR TO SIX WEEKS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 61,000.
ENGINE WILL SURGE WHEN AT A STOP AND UNLESS BRAKE IS FULLY DEPRESSED TO THE FLOOR, VEHICLE MAY MOVE FORWARD. THIS SURGE IS NOT CONSISTENT, OCCURRING BETWEEN 10-20% OF THE TIME AND MORE LIKELY TO OCCUR WITHIN THE FIRST 10 SECONDS OF STOPPING AT A LIGHT OR TO PARK VEHICLE AFTER BEING ON HIGHWAYS AT HIGHER RATES OF SPEED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO MAKE A LOUD NOISE AND STALLED. THE CONTACT PULLED TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP. THE DEALER RAN A DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND STATED THAT THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND FILED A COMPLAINT; THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED HIM BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 22,000. THE STEERING ON MY 2004 IS HARDER TO CONTROL AT SPEEDS OF ABOUT 55 AND ABOVE. IT FEELS VERY LOOSE AND "SPONGY". I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP, AND THEY TOLD ME IT MUST BE THE TIRES. I HAD THE TIRES REPLACED, AND THE PROBLEM REMAINS. I BELIEVE THAT THE STEERING IS SIMPLY TOO LOOSE AND NOT WELL ENOUGH CONTROLLED. I HAVE TO WORK HARDER THAN I SHOULD TO KEEP IT IN LINE. THE PROBLEM HAS EXISTED FOR THE LAST COUPLE YEARS. *TR
MARCH 24, 2010, I STARTED MY CAR FROM DEWDNEY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL, MISSION, BC PARKING LOT HEADING HOME IN ABBOTSFORD, BC. ABOUT 15 MINUTES ON HIGHWAY 11 HEADING ABBOTSFORD DIRECTION, I FOUND THAT I COULD NOT BRAKE THE CAR TO STOP. LUCKILY, I MANAGED TO STOP. THEN I SAW SMOKE CAME OUT FROM THE BACK WHEELS, AND THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LEVER WAS HIGH UP, WHICH IT HAD NOT BEEN RELEASED BEFORE I STARTED TO DRIVE. I WAS SCARED AND CALLED THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER, SUNRISE TOYOTA IN ABBOTSFORD TO TOW THE CAR. THE NEXT MORNING, THE STAFF AT THE DEALERSHIP CALLED ME THAT I HAD TO PAY ABOUT $1200.00 TO FIX THE CAR MYSELF AS THE EXTENDED WARRANTY DID NOT COVER IT DUE THE FAULT I MADE MYSELF. THEY CLAIMED THAT I SHOULD HAVE NOT UNRELEASED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, WHICH WHY IT BURNED THE WHOLE BRAKING SYSTEM. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME THAT I FORGOT TO RELEASE THE EMERGENCY HAND BRAKE BEFORE I DROVE. THE FIRST TIME HAPPENED TWO AND A HALF YEARS AGO THAT I REALIZED THAT THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT RELEASED IMMEDIATELY, AS I FELT THE CAR WAS DIFFICULT TO MOVE. MY CONCERN IS THAT I DID NOT FEEL ANY DIFFICULTY OR RESTRICTION TO MOVE THE CAR WHEN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT RELEASED THIS TIME, AS I DID NOT REMEMBER IF THE RED LIGHT OF THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS ON. UNFORTUNATELY, THE CAR MOVED SMOOTHLY EVEN THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS UP HIGH. THAT WAS WHY I DID NOT REALIZE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS NOT RELEASED. MY CAR IS ONLY SIX YEARS OLD, WITH 80,000KM, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE WAS SUPPOSED TO BE WORKING PROPERLY. I THOUGHT THAT I WAS GOING TO DIE WITHOUT BEING ABLE TO STOP THE CAR WHEN I EXITED THE HIGHWAY, AS THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS BURNING OFF WITH THE EMERGENCY BRAKE NOT BEING RELEASED. IT IS NOT A REASONABLE TIME FRAME FOR AN EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP FUNCTION IN FIVE OR SIX YEARS. IN OTHER WORDS, TOYOTA INC. SHOULD HAVE WARNED ALL THE DRIVERS WHO DRIVE TOYOTA COROLLA 2004 MODEL TO REPLACE THE EMERGENCY BRAKES OF THEIR CARS IN FIVE OR SIX YEARS, OTHERWISE THEY WILL RISK THEIR LIVES.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LOCK ASSEMBLY FAILED ON THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR; HE WOULD BE UNABLE TO EITHER GET IN OR OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD REPAIR IT AT HIS EXPENSE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 63,911.
WHILE IN REVERSE AND BACKING MY 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA INTO MY GARAGE THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND I HIT THE REAR OF THE GARAGE. I AM POSITIVE I DID NOT HAVE MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RACING WHEN I PUT IT IN DRIVE AND DROVE OUT OF THE GARAGE . I HAD TO RUN INTO A SNOWPILE ON THE FRONT LAWN TO STOP THE VEHICLE. AFTER THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF I LOOKED AT THE FLOOR MAT AND SAW NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. THIS SAME PROBLEM WHILE REVERSING INTO THE GARAGE HAPPENED IN SEPT 2005. AT THE TIME I JUST THOUGHT THE MISTAKE WAS MINE, NOW AFTER THE SECOND INCIDENT I AM CONVINCED THERE IS A MECHANICAL PROBLEM WITH THE CAR. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED UP TO 60 MPH. IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING, THE CONTACT HAD PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDAL SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER AND THERE WERE NO PRIOR WARNINGS. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 40000.
REAR END COLLISION INVOLVING 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA AND NISSAN XTERRA. UPON COLLISION THE CAR'S ENGINE WAS REVVING AND THE IGNITION HAD TO BE TURNED OFF TO GET THE CAR TO STOP MOVING. THE ENTIRE FRONT END OF THE COROLLA WAS DAMAGED AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. NOT SURE IF THE ACCELERATOR STUCK. DEFINITELY THINK THE AIR BAGS SHOULD HAVE DEPLOYED. THE COROLLA WAS TOTALED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 5 MPH INTO A PARKING LOT WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO IDLE AND CRASHED INTO A BUILDING PILLAR ALTHOUGH EXTREME PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MINOR INJURIES. THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SMOKE AFTER THE CRASH. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AFTER IT COOLED DOWN. THE DEALER STATED THAT HE COULD NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE UNTIL THEY SPOKE WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY STATED THAT THEY WOULD SEND THE COMPLAINT TO A CLAIM ADJUSTER WHICH COULD TAKE UP TO 10 DAYS FOR A RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS STILL AT THE AUTHORIZED DEALER WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,050 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,100. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING IN THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CONTACT NOTICED A BURNING SMELL FROM THE ENGINE AREA. WHEN THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP, THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE RADIATOR WAS CRACKED; THE DEALER COULD NOT DETERMINE IF THE BURNING SMELL WAS CAUSED BY THE CRACKED RADIATOR OR THE ENGINE OVERHEATING. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 74,766. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 80,000.
I AM HAVING WHAT COULD BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH MY ALMOST NEW COROLLA 2004 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WITH ONLY 8000 KM. IF I LEAVE THE CAR PARKED FOR SAY MORE THAN A WEEK, I THEN START IT, AND TRY TO GO FORWARD OR IN REVERSE THE CAR TAKES (LAGS) LIKE 5 OR 6 SECONDS TO SORT OF ENGAGE THE GEAR. AT FIRST IT SORT OF LIKE STARTS TO GO BUT NOT FULLY (SLIPS) AND AFTER THAT IT GOES SOLID. I HOPE YOU UNDERSTAND MY EXPLANATION?? DEALER HAS PERFORMED THE HYDRAULIC TEST, RESET THE MEMORY, AND CHANGED THE ATF OIL. IT SEEMS THAT PERHAPS ONE OF THE INTERNAL VALVES TENDS TO LEEK OR IS NOT ABLE TO RETAIN THE PRESSURE OVER TIME. THE CAR HAS NOW 15000 KM. AND THE PROBLEM IS GETTING WORSE. IT TAKES MORE TIME TO FULLY ENGAGE INTO GEAR. I CAN SEE HOW A SERIOUS ACCIDENT CAN HAPPENED IF THE PERSON DRIVING THE CAR IS NOT AWARE OF THIS ISSUE AND WILL TRY TO ACCELERATE TO GET THE CAR MOVING AND SUDDENLY LOOSE CONTROL OVER A SUDDEN UNWANTED ACCELERATION. I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA THE OTHER DAY ON A SIDE ROAD. I WAS APPROACHING A CORNER IN THE ROAD AND TOOK MY FOOT OFF MY GAS PEDAL. THE CAR CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. I PUSHED ON THE BREAK WHICH SLOWED THE CAR SLIGHTLY, BUT WOULDN'T STOP IT. I PUT THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND PULLED OFF TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE WAS REVVING VERY LOUDLY SO I TURNED OFF THE CAR. I PROCEEDED TO TURN THE CAR BACK ON AND IT WAS STILL REVVING. I PULLED ON THE GAS PEDAL AND CHECK MY FLOOR MAT, AS I KNEW OF ALL THE CURRENT RECALLS IN EFFECT. THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT IN THE WAY AND THE PEDAL APPEARED FINE. NOTHING CHANGED. I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND IN ABOUT 2 HRS LATER WHEN THE TOW TRUCK GUY STARTED MY CAR, IT APPEARED FINE. IN JANUARY 2010, I PICKED UP A CERTIFIED LETTER FROM THE POST OFFICE THAT WAS DATED DECEMBER 23, 2009. REGARDING SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN THE TOYOTA COROLLA: ALTHOUGH THIS PROBLEM HAS RECENTLY BEEN WIDELY REPORTED ON THE NEWS IN OTHER MODELS I HAVE EXPERIENCED DOZENS OF EVENTS IN THE TOYOTA COROLLA FOR AN ENTIRELY DIFFERENT REASON. THE SPACING BETWEEN THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR IS SO CLOSE THAT ANYONE WHO HAS BIG FEET SUCH AS ME ( I WEAR A MEN'S 12 WIDE SHOE) CAN EASILY HIT THE ACCELERATOR AT THE SAME TIME THE BRAKE IS HIT. THIS PROBLEM BECAME SUCH AN ISSUE FOR ME SINCE MY ELDERLY MOTHER OWNS 2 DIFFERENT TOYOTA COROLLA THAT I AVOID USING HER CARS WHENEVER POSSIBLE. I HAVE A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA S 5-SPEED WITH 91,000 MILES ON IT. WHILE DRIVING THE OTHER DAY, THE TRANSMISSION LOCKED UP ON THE INTERSTATE. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SHE WAS GOING SO FAST. AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY SHE LOST CONTROL OF HER CAR. SHE WAS 90% OF THE WAY HOME. IT WAS ABOUT 6:15 IN THE AFTERNOON IN THE MIDDLE OF SUMMER. A SUNNY DAY, NO CLOUDS OR PRECIP. THE CAR IS BEING HELD BY THE WEST SPRINGFIELD, MA POLICE DEPARTMENT. CAN YOU INSPECT THE VEHICLE? SHE HAD COMPLAINED TO ME ABOUT THE VEHICLE PREVIOUS TO THIS. SHE ONCE ASKED ME ADD POWER STEERING FLUID. WHEN I CHECKED, THE RESERVOIR WAS ALREADY UP TO THE FULL MARK. BEING A DAD, MY ONLY JOB WAS TO MAINTAIN THE CAR (CHANGE OIL, ETC). I VERY, VERY RARELY DROVE THE CAR. AND WHEN I DID DRIVE, IT WAS FINE. THIS COROLLA WAS REGISTERED IN MY NAME. I BOUGHT IT IN 2007 FOR MY DAUGHTER (HER FIRST CAR). I BOUGHT COROLLA'S FOR BOTH OF MY CHILDREN. I GAVE MY SON A 2001 COROLLA YEARS AGO. I'M A BIG BELIEVER IN TOYOTA QUALITY. I OWN A TACOMA MYSELF. BUT, SOMETHING ISN'T RIGHT ABOUT THIS ACCIDENT. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A VERTICAL WIRE IN THE BACK OF THE PASSENGER SEAT. WHEN AN OCCUPANT IS SEATED IN THE PASSENGER SEAT, THE WIRE COMES THROUGH AND STICKS THEM IN THEIR BACK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT IT WAS A WARRANTY ISSUE. UNFORTUNATELY, THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. THE REPAIR WOULD COST $700. THE CONTACT FEELS THAT HE SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR SINCE IT WAS DUE TO A MANUFACTURER DEFECT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,790.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 TOYOTA COROLLA LAST MARCH 13, 2009 AT NOON IN A CROWDED PARKING LOT IN MASON , OHIO, A SUBURB OF CINCINNATI. I WAS STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN AND AFTER THAT, I PUSHED ON MY GAS PEDAL WHEN THE CAR TOOK OFF , GOING FROM A DEAD STOP TO 60 MPH , CROSSING THE LOT SO FAST THAT I WAS LUCKY I DID NOT KILL ANYONE THAT DAY. I COULD NOT CONTROL THE CAR AT ALL. IT WAS AS IF I WAS ON A DRAGSTRIP TRYING TO RACE! I WAS SURROUNDED BY MINIVANS AND THERE WAS A BURGER KING RESTAURANT ON THE ONE SIDE OF ME WITH A BUSY KOHL'S NEXT TO MY CAR. I WAS TERRIFIED BECAUSE I COULD NOT STOP THE CAR! THE BRAKES DID NOT WORK FOR ME ,AT ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I HAD TO STOP THE CAR AS I HAD ONLY A FEW MINUTES TO STOP OR I WOULD HAVE JUMPED OVER A 4 FOOT GRASSY PARTITION BEFORE I WENT INTO A 4 LANE INTERSECTION FULL OF TRAFFIC!!!!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD HAVE CAUSED A NICE ACCIDENT AND KILLED SOMEONE OR MANY!!!!!!!!!!! I THREW THE CAR INTO "PARK AND TURNED OFF THE IGNITION RIGHT THEN" THE CAR DID A 180 DEGREE TURN LANDING NEAR THE GRASSY PARTITION!!!!!!!!! I WAS FINE BUT SO SCARED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!I HAD NO IDEA WHAT TO DO TO STOP BUT IT WORKED. I WENT TO KING'S TOYOTA AFTER THAT WHICH WAS ACROSS THE STREET. THEY CHECKED THE CAR AND SAID IT WAS A BUILDUP OF GASES IN THE CAR!!!!!!! SUCH A LIE!!!!!!! WHY DID THEY NOT KNOW WHAT WAS IT WAS?? THEY HAVE HAD COMPLAINTS SINCE 1999?????????? MY QUESTION IS WHY IS MY CAR NOT PART OF THE RECALL SINCE I HAVE HAD A SUDDEN ACCELERATION PROBLEM?? KING'S WILL LOOK AT MY CAR NEXT WEEK BUT THEY WILL MAKE ME PAY FOR REPAIRS WHEN IT'S THEIR FAULT AND IT'S NOT ON THE LIST.
