I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTE ON THE MAIL INFORMING ME OF AN AIR BAG RECALL ON THE TOYOTA COROLLA I DRIVE, WHERE THEY STRONGLY RECOMMEND TO FIX IT IMMEDIATELY AND NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR ON THOSE CONDITIONS. THE SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM ON THE NOTE STATED THAT ANY AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALER WILL REPLACE THE PART AT NO CHARGE. I CONTACTED ARLINGTON TOYOTA DEALER IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA WHERE THEY TOOK MY INFORMATION AND WAS TOLD SOMEONE WAS GOING TO CALL ME BACK AND NEVER DID. AFTER A FEW WEEKS I DECIDED TO CALL THEM BACK AND THEY TOLD ME THE PART IS IN BACK ORDER AND THEY DON'T KNOW WHEN THEY WILL GET IT. THEY WERE RUDE AND NOT INTERESTED IN FIXING THE PROBLEM AT ALL. I DECIDED TO CALL ANOTHER DEALER IN THE AREA, COGGINS TOYOTA AT THE AVENUES IN JACKSONVILLE FLORIDA, AND THEY TOOK MY INFORMATION AGAIN AND TOLD ME MY PART WILL ARRIVED IN TWO WEEKS. AFTER WAITING A MONTH FOR THEM TO CALL ME, I DECIDED TO CALL THEM BACK WHERE A CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE TOLD ME THEY DON'T HAVE A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM, AND I COULD WAIT SEVERAL YEARS BEFORE THE PART GETS THERE. I FOUND IT UNACCEPTABLE THAT AFTER GETTING A SERIOUS RECALL NOTE ON THE MAIL WHERE THEY STATE THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIX IMMEDIATELY, AND THERE IS THE POTENTIAL OF A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH, NOTHING CAN GET DONE. I NEED TO DRIVE MY CAR AND IT IS VERY SCARY I COULD POTENTIALLY PUT MYSELF OR MY FAMILY IN DANGER EVERY TIME I DO. THE RECALL STATES THAT THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR THE INTRUSION OF MOISTURE OVER TIME IN THE AIR BAG. LIVING IN FLORIDA AND HAVING AN OLD CAR INCREASE THE CHANCES OF THAT TO HAPPENS. NOT DRIVING THE CAR IS NOT A SOLUTION. IF THEY ARE NOT WILLING TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND RECOMMEND NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR, THEY SHOULD GIVE A CAR RENTAL AT NO CHARGE TO PEOPLE WITH THIS PROBLEM UNTIL THEY FIX IT.

I AM VERY CONCERNED THAT HONDA HAS RESOLVED THE AIRBAG ISSUE IN MY 2003 VEHICLE IN A VERY TIMELY FASHION AND TOYOTA HAS NOT. IN ADDITION I AM INCURRING ADDED CARPOOL COSTS OF NOT USING THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT DUE TO BEING ADVISED BY TOYOTA NOT TO HAVE PASSENGERS IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT.

TODAY, I RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON THIS CAR FOR THE FRONT PASSENGER AIRBAG INFLATOR MODEL. THE NOTICE SAID THAT NO REMEDY WAS YET AVAILABLE. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY VERIFIED THIS AND SAID THEY DID NOT KNOW WHEN A REMEDY WOULD BE AVAILABLE. THE NOTICE ADVISES THAT NOBODY SHOULD SIT ON THE PASSENGER SIDE OF THE CAR UNTIL THE INFLATOR MODULE IS REPLACED. INJURIES AND DEATH HAVE OCCURRED WHEN THE AIRBAG IMPROPERLY DEPLOYS. THIS MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR MY WIFE AND I TO DRIVE THE CAR WITHOUT FEAR FOR OUR SAFETY, MY OTHER CAR IS A 2004 HONDA CIVIC WHICH HAS ALSO BEEN RECALLED FOR, FIRST, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG INFLATOR MODULE AND, THEN, FOR THE AIRBAG INFLATOR MODULE ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I'VE BEEN WAITING 4 MONTHS FOR THE DEALER TO GET THE REPLACEMENT PARTS FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE, SINCE THE AIRBAGS FOR BOTH CARS SEEM TO HAVE BEEN MANUFACTURED BY TAKATA, IT SEEMS TO ME LIKELY THAT THE TOYOTA WILL ALSO, SOME DAY, BE RECALLED AGAIN FOR THE FRONT AIRBAG INFLATOR MODULE. I AM COMPLAINING BECAUSE IT SEEMS TO ME OBVIOUS THAT I HAVE BEEN DRIVING 2 UNSAFE CARS SINCE THE TIME I PURCHASED THEM. CONSIDERING THE DANGER OF INJURY OR DEATH, IT DOES NOT SEEM TO ME THAT THE RECALLS ARE NOT BEING HANDLED BY TOYOTA OR HONDA IN A TIMELY MANNER WITH PROPER CONCERN FOR THE SAFETY OF THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGERS OF THESE CARS. HONDA DID FINALLY RESPOND BY REPLACING THE PASSENGER SIDE MODULE IN APRIL OF THIS YEAR, AT THE SAME TIME TELLING ME I WOULD HAVE TO WAIT INDEFINITELY TO REPLACE THE DRIVER'S SIDE MODULE. FINALLY, I AM SCHEDULED TO HAVE THE DRIVER'S SIDE REPLACED ON SEPT. 3. TOYOTA CAN GIVE ME NO DATE FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PASSENGERS SIDE AND ASSURES ME THAT THE DRIVER'S SIDE IS OK . I AM DOUBTFUL.
I RECEIVED NOTICE OF AN AIRBAG SAFETY RECALL NOTICE IN MID-AUGUST 2015 WITH INSTRUCTION TO "NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENDER SEAT". IT HAS BEEN TWO MONTHS AND WITH A CALL INTO MY LOCAL DEALER AND NATIONAL TOYOTA I AM TOLD THEY ARE STILL NOT EVEN WORKING ON THE 05-07 COROLLA AIRBAGS IN MY STATE. TOYOTA IS FAILING TO REMEDY THIS DEFECT IN MY CAR WITHIN A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME.
I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THE DEFECT WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME. MY FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG HAS BEEN RECALLED SINCE SOMETIME THIS SUMMER. I ONLY HAVE 1 CAR AND 3 KIDS THAT I TAKE TO APPOINTMENTS, ETC. I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY IF SOMETHING IS IN RECALL, WHY PARTS ARE NOT READILY AVAILABLE. PLEASE CONTACT ME WITH AN UPDATE. THANK YOU. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO ENGAGE THE BRAKES, THE BRAKES SEIZED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE LANDED ON THE DIVIDER AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE CONTACT WAS INJURED AND RECEIVED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED AND TOWED TO A COLLISION SHOP. DEAR NHTSA, TODAY WE RECEIVED AN INTERIM RECALL NOTICE ON OUR 2007 TOYOTA COROLLA INSTRUCTING US NOT TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH A FRONT PASSENGER. I CONTACTED TOYOTA TO EXPLAIN THAT WE PURCHASED THIS CAR SPECIFICALLY FOR MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WHO CURRENTLY HAS HER OHIO TEMPORARY DRIVERS LICENSE. PER THIS INTERIM LETTER, TOYOTA IS TELLING US THAT SHE CANNOT DRIVE THIS CAR WE PURCHASED SPECIFICALLY FOR HER. OHIO TEMPORARY DRIVER LICENSES REQUIRE A LICENSED FRONT PASSENGER. I WAS GIVEN TOYOTA CASE #1508103451 BY THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE. I REQUESTED ONE OF THE INITIAL RECALL REPAIR APPOINTMENTS AVAILABLE. THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE REFUSED, AND ADVISED ME TO CALL A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO GET ON AN INITIAL CALL BACK LIST. I CALLED METRO TOYOTA IN CLEVELAND, OHIO AT 888.439.0914. THE METRO TOYOTA SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE ALSO ADVISED IT MAY BE TWO MONTHS TO TWO YEARS BEFORE THEY RECEIVE PARTS FOR THE TAKATA PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG RECALL REPLACEMENTS. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED IN BOTH TOYOTA CORPORATE USA AND METRO TOYOTA. BOTH PARTIES APPEARED TO BE UNCONCERNED WITH RENDERING MY 2007 COROLLA USELESS FOR MY DAUGHTER TO DRIVE FOR POSSIBLY TWO YEARS. I BELIEVE TOYOTA NEEDS TO STEP TO THE PLATE AND OFFER US A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE IN SAFE NON-RECALL CONDITION IN EXCHANGE FOR OUR 2007 COROLLA IF THEY CANNOT PROVIDE US WITH A TIMELY RECALL REPAIR. WE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ON OUR COROLLA TODAY STATING THAT THE AIR BAG MAY DEPLOY AND CAUSE THE INFLATOR TO RUPTURE, POTENTIALLY CAUSING SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THE VEHICLE OCCUPANTS. HOWEVER, ACCORDING TO THE RECALL, WE DO NOT LIVE IN A PRIORITY GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION TO RECEIVE AN IMMEDIATE REPAIR AND WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL ENOUGH PARTS ARE AVAILABLE. TOYOTA'S SUGGESTION IN THE MEANTIME IS TO HAVE NO ONE TO SIT IN THE PASSENGER SEAT. WE HAVE BEEN ADVISED TO FILE A COMPLAINT IF WE BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA HAS FAILED TO REMEDY THAT EFFECT WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME. OUR FAMILY DOES NOT OWN AN ADDITIONAL VEHICLE THAT WILL ACCOMMODATE OUR FAMILY, SO WE FEEL THIS IS AN UNREASONABLE ALTERNATIVE FOR TOYOTA TO OFFER (TO MERELY HAVE SOMEONE NOT SIT IN THE PASSENGER'S SEAT.) WE ARE DUMBFOUNDED THAT TOYOTA WOULD SEND A RECALL ADVISING US OF THIS POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING ISSUE WITH NO SOLUTION FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. WE ARE NOW FORCED TO POTENTIALLY ENDANGER THE LIFE OF SOMEONE IN OUR FAMILY AS WE HAVE NO OTHER VEHICLE THAT WILL FIT OUR FAMILY.

TOKATA RECALL IN AUGUST 2015 TOYOTA INFORMED ME THAT MY COROLLA WAS PART OF THE RECALL PROGRAM TO REPLACE THE AIRBAGS WHICH WERE SUBJECT TO SPEWING SHRAPNEL WHEN DISCHARGED. I WENT TO THE LOCAL DEALER TO GET THE REPLACEMENT COMPLETED, SHOWING THEM THE NOTICE I RECEIVED. THE DEALER, SMART TOYOTA (563.388.6880) INFORMED ME THAT THE REPLACEMENT PARTS WERE NOT AVAILABLE YET, AND THAT I SHOULD RECEIVE ANOTHER LETTER WHEN THE THE PARTS WERE ON HAND AND COULD BE INSTALLED. I CHECKED WITH THEM AGAIN ON 9 OCTOBER TO LEARN WHETHER THE PARTS WERE AVAILABLE. I RECEIVED THE SAME ANSWER AS I DID IN AUGUST AT MY INITIAL VISIT: THE PARTS ARE NOT AVAILABLE YET AND THAT I WOULD RECEIVE A LETTER INFORMING ME WHEN THEY WERE. TODAY IS 24 DECEMBER, AND I STILL HAVEN'T RECEIVED THAT LETTER. IN THE MEANTIME, I AM DRIVING AROUND IN A CAR WITH AIRBAGS THAT COULD STRAFE ME WITH SHRAPNEL SHOULD I BE IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE RESPONSE TO A POTENTIALLY LIFE THREATENING DEFECT. I FEEL THAT PERHAPS I SHOULD HAVE THE AIRBAGS REMOVED OR DISABLED UNTIL THE REPLACEMENT PARTS ARE AVAILABLE, AND TO RELY ON THE SAFETY BELTS FOR CRASH PROTECTION.
