BROKEN WHEEL STUDS ON 2010 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. 3 WHEEL STUDS ON REAR TIRES BROKE DURING A NORMAL TIRE ROTATION AND BALANCE. DEFECTIVE STUDS WERE REPLACED W/ AFTERMARKET STUDS. CONSEQUENCES COULD BE A LOSS OF A WHEEL DURING VEHICLE OPERATION. *LN
I PURCHASED 2010 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER 4X4 AUTOMATIC. IT HAS PART TIME 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM INCLUDING 4H AND 4L. I SET INTO 4H (HIGH SPEED 4WHEEL DRIVE) AND TRIED TO PARK AT THE OPEN PARKING LOT. I FOUND OUT CAR GOES SLOW AND STOP BEFORE FITTING INTO THE SPOT. WHEN STEERING IS NOT STRAIGHT, CAR SLOWLY STOPS WITHOUT BRAKING UNDER NO ACCEL. AFTER THAT I TRIED TO MAKE A CIRCLE WITH MY CAR, IT DID NOT WORK. I HAVE TO PUSH THE GAS PEDAL TO MAKE A CIRCLE. IN 2WD, I DON'T NEED TO MAKE CIRCLE WITH GAS PEDAL ON "D" DRIVE. ON 4WD, TO MAKE A CIRCLE, I HAVE TO PUSH GAS PEDAL AND TIRE GETS SQUEAKING AND MAKING NOISE. I TESTED MY COUSIN'S 4 RUNNER WHICH I KNEW THAT BOTH CARS HAVE SAME MECHANISM. ON 4RUNNER, WE DON'T HAVE NO PROBLEM. THE CAR GOES VERY SMOOTH ON 4WD EVEN MAKE A CIRCLE. I WENT TO THE DEALER TO FIND OUT. FIRST, "L" DEALER, THE GUY SAID THAT 4H HAS CENTER DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED. SO UNDER 4WD, ALL WHEELS ARE GOES SAME SPEED. SO I SHOULDN'T PUT 4WD ON THE PAVED ROAD. 4WD IN ONLY FOR THE OFF-ROAD. I ASKED HIM "HOW ABOUT RAINY DAY?" HE SAID MOST OF CARS ARE 2WD. I WENT TO "N" DEALER. HE DOESN'T KNOW ANYTHING. I JUST DROPPED THE CAR AT "C" DEALER NOW FOR 5K SERVICE. WE TALKED LONG TIME FOR 4WD SYSTEM. HE DOES NOT KNOW. HE SAYS THAT IT MIGHT BE DIFFERENT FROM 4 RUNNER AND CHARACTERISTIC. PERSONALLY, I THINK 4WD SYSTEM HELPS ON RAINY ROAD AND ALSO HELPS ON CURVY ROADS ON THE MOUNTAIN. SO I PUT 4WD TIME TO TIME. I DON'T THINK THE CAR SHOULD BE DESIGNED TO HAVE ALL DIFFERENTIAL LOCKED ON 4WD. HOW DO I MAKE A SHARP TURN WITH 4WD? I HAVE TO HEAR TIRE SQUEAKING AND FEEL LIKE HARM THE CAR. I FEEL BAD. IF IT IS A CHARACTERISTIC ABOUT THE CAR, I AM OK WITH IT UNLESS IT HARMS MY CAR. BUT, IT POSSIBLY SOMETHING NEED TO IMPROVE, CAN YOU FIND OUT? I WAS ABOUT TO CALL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE, BUT I AM AFRAID THAT THEY MIGHT SAY AGAIN "IT IS CHARACTERISTIC. YOU DRIVE 2WD ONLY ON THE ROAD." THANK YOU. *TR
SEAT BELT DOES NOT RETRACT PROPERLY, IT HANGS UP AFTER A FEW INCHES. THE FREQUENCY OF THIS PROBLEM IS 90% OF THE RETRACTS. I TOLD THE DEALER 4 TIMES, THEY STATED THEY COULDN'T FIND THE PROBLEM. I SCOFF. STEERING MY CAR REQUIRES CONSTANT INPUT TO GO STRAIGHT, ESPECIALLY ON THE FREEWAYS. BEFORE I KNOW IT I'M IN THE NEXT LANE. THERE IS NO NEUTRAL AREA IN THE CENTER WHILE GOING STRAIGHT. I HAD AN ALIGNMENT AND REPLACED ALL THE TIRES, IT STILL HAS THIS HAZARD. BRAKES THEY PULSE WHEN SLOWING ONLY AT HIGH SPEED. (65 MPH) I DO NOT RIDE THE BRAKES, OR RUN THE CAR HARD. THIS HAPPENED AFTER NORMAL DRIVING. SEEMS LIKE WARPED DISKS, BUT I DO NOT STOP FAST, OR DRIVE LIKE I'M RACING. NOTE: HEADLIGHTS HAD TO BE READJUSTED BECAUSE THEY DID NOT POINT UP THE ROAD ENOUGH, MAKING HUGE BLIND SPOT AT OVER 40 MPH. I HAD DEALER RE-ADJUST, THEY POINTED THE DOWN SO FAR THEY MADE IT WORSE. I ADJUSTED THEM AGAIN, MYSELF. THE FACTORY OFF ROAD PACKAGE IT CAME WITH, I'M SURE WAS THE PROBLEM. THEY SHOULD HAVE BEEN ADJUSTED BY FACTORY BEFORE SALE. SPEED CONTROL WHEN GOING UPHILL AND SET AT 60MPH AND DRIVING AT SAFE DISTANCE FROM CAR IN FRONT, IT SPEEDS UP, GETTING DANGER CLOSE, AND MUST BE DISABLED BEFORE HITTING CAR IN FRONT. WILL YOU PAY FOR THESE FIXES?
JUST BOUGHT THE NEW FJ CRUISER 2010 AND GOT ABS BRAKE PROBLEM. EVERYTIME I HIT A BUMP THE ABS GET ACTIVE AND THE VEHICLE DOESN'T SLOW DOWN . I GET VERY CLOSE TO HIT SOMEONE AT THE BACK BECAUSE OF THAT. NOW I AM GETTING NERVOUS EVERYTIME I SEE A BUMP, CAN'T IMAGINE WHAT I WILL DO ON SLIPPERY SURFACE. *TR
MY TRUCK SPEED WAS 60-65 MPH AND MY STEERING WHEEL BEGAN WOBBLING. I TOOK IT TO DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. LAST WEEK I SERVICED MY TRUCK AND ROTATED AND BALANCED THE TIRES. STILL SAME STEERING WHEEL WOBBLING. IN HIGH SPEED MY STEERING WHEEL FEELS VERY LOOSE. I DON'T KNOW IF THERE IS A POWER STEERING PROBLEM OR JUST SIMPLE TIRE BALANCE. OTHER PROBLEM IS MY BRAKES. WHEN I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, I LIGHTLY PRESSED THE BRAKE TO STOP AND DRIVER SIDE WHEEL HIT A POT HOLE DEEP AROUND 2 INCHES, THEN MY TRUCK DIDN'T STOP WHERE I WANED IT TO STOP. IT HAPPENS ONLY AT CERTAIN TIMES. IF I HIT A POT HOLE OR BUMP PRESSING BRAKE.
MY CAR IS A 2010 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER WHICH I PURCHASED IN OCTOBER 2009. THE BRAKES DIDN'T STOP THE CAR AS EXPECTED IN TWO OCCASIONS, AT ABOUT 7000 MILES THE FIRST TIME, AND THEN A MONTH LATER AGAIN. IN THE FIRST OCCURRENCE, I WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 25 MPH ON WET ASPHALT COMING TO A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I PUSHED THE BRAKES TO STOP BUT THE CAR CONTINUED TO ROLL AND I WENT INTO THE INTERSECTION. THE SECOND TIME I WAS DRIVING AT AROUND 40MPH, AGAIN ON WET ASPHALT. I DROVE OVER A GRATE ON A BRIDGE AND PUSHED THE BRAKES, AND THE CAR DID THE SAME THING, IT DIDN'T SLOW DOWN AS I EXPECTED, INSTEAD IT KEPT GOING. IF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME HAD BEEN CLOSER I WOULD HAVE HIT IT. THERE'S NO VIBRATION CHARACTERISTIC OF THE ABS, INSTEAD IT SIMPLY FEELS AS IF THE BRAKES STOP BRAKING. IN BOTH CASES I PULLED THE HANDBRAKE BECAUSE OF MY INSTINCTIVE REACTION TO TRY TO STOP THE CAR. I'VE BEEN DRIVING SEVERAL CARS OVER 15 YEARS AND THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED TO ME BEFORE. I TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA THE FIRST TIME AND THEY HAD IT FOR A WHOLE WEEKEND AND TOLD ME THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH IT. #8 - STEERING PROBLEM OF THE 2010 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER THE VEHICLE IS A 2010 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THIS VEHICLE CAN NOT MAINTAIN SAFE HIGHWAY SPEEDS OF 55 TO 60 MPH DUE TO SEVERE WHEEL SHIMMY. I HAVE HAD THESE WHEELS FORCE BALANCE ABOUT A DOZEN TIMES, STILL HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. WHY WON'T TOYOTA LOOK INTO THIS PROBLEM. I HAVE TRIED NEW TIRES AND STILL THE SAME PROBLEM, SO I PUT BACK THE ORIGINAL TIRES AND REPLACE THE RIMS, STILL THE SAME PROBLEM..THIS IS COSTING CONSUMERS A LOT OF MONEY AND TIME. NOW I AM REPLACING THE ROTORS TO SEE IF THAT HELPS. I HAVE DONE RESEARCH ON TOYOTA FORUMS AND THE 2010 AND NEW TOYOTA FJ CRUISERS ARE HAVING A PROBLEM, AND TOYOTA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ON THIS SAFETY ISSUE. MY CONCERN I LOSING CONTROL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. *TR
SEVERE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION BETWEEN SPEEDS OF 55-70 MPH. STEERING WHEEL WILL SHIMMY WHEN TRAVELING BETWEEN THE SPEEDS OF 55-70 MPH. HAS BEEN A PROBLEM SINCE NEW. TOYOTA DEALER NOTIFIED 3 TIMES SO FAR. THEY PERFORMED ROAD FORCE BALANCE AND ALIGNMENT. SHIMMY STILL PRESENT. WAS TOLD THAT "THEY ALL DO THIS AND IT IS NORMAL". SHIMMY IS SO BAD AT TIME THAT VEHICLE FEELS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DURING THESE EPISODES, PROMPTING ME TO QUICKLY, SOMETIMES UNSAFELY SLOW DOWN TO BELOW 55 MPH. THIS HAS OCCURRED IN HEAVY TRAFFIC ON HIGHWAYS AND IS DEFINITELY UNSAFE. *TR
BRAKES DIDN'T SEEM TO WORK (THE AUTO KEPT GOING WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED) UNTIL I LET OFF THE PEDAL AND PUSHED THEM AGAIN. I PASSED OVER A MANHOLE COVER AS THE FAILURE OCCURRED. I HAVE ONLY HAD ONE INSTANCE OF THIS HAPPENING SO FAR, BUT IT SCARED THE '!@#$%OUT OF ME. AS THERE WAS A CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
ABS BRAKES RELEASE IF ONE WHEEL LOCKS. WENT INTO THE INTERSECTION WITHOUT BRAKES 2X. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD ACCELERATE ABNORMALLY AND WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE ACCELERATOR AND BRAKE PEDALS WERE TOO CLOSE IN PROXIMITY, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO REACT ABNORMALLY. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE, BUT DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE WITH REPAIR TO THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. WHENEVER THE CONTACT ATTEMPTS TO ACCELERATE WHILE THE VEHICLE IS ALREADY IN MOTION THE VEHICLE WILL SUDDENLY BEGIN TO HESITATE AND THE ENGINE WILL BEGIN TO MAKE A LOUD SURGING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING PROPERLY. THE CONTACT NOTICED PRIOR THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT GETTING THE GAS MILEAGE AS STATED BY THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 1373.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 FJ CRUISER. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF AT LEAST 20 MPH AND UP, THE VEHICLE THROTTLE WOULD STICK INTERMITTENTLY. WHILE SHIFTING GEARS, THE VEHICLE WOULD EXHIBIT AN ABNORMAL INCREASE IN ENGINE RPMS AND WOULD HESITATE TO DECELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING UNDER NORMAL CONDITIONS. THERE WERE NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE AND THERE WERE NO RECALLS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 1,900.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA FJ CRUISER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT END ALIGNMENT WAS NOT ADEQUATE BECAUSE THE TIRES WEIGHED SIGNIFICANTLY MORE THAN WHAT WAS INDICATED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER INSTALLED THE INCORRECT SIZED TIRES ON THE VEHICLE. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED ASSISTANCE BECAUSE THE REPAIRS ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 11V148000 (TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS), HAD ALREADY BEEN PERFORMED. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THIS WAS NOT THE CORRECT REMEDY FOR THE FAILURE. NO ADDITIONAL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,000.
