PASSENGER HEADLAMP FOR MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS GOES OUT INTERMITTENTLY. IF I TURN THE LIGHTS OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN IT WILL RE-LIGHT BUT ONLY FOR A SHORT PERIOD. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID THEY WILL HAVE TO REPLACE THE HEADLIGHT AND THE COMPUTER AND EACH COSTS OVER $250. *TR
I AM EXPERIENCING INTERMITTENT HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS. THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD TAKE TURNS GOING OUT. THIS WOULD HAPPEN WHILE DRIVING. FIRST, THE PASSENGER SIDE, THEN THE DRIVER SIDE, AND SOMETIMES BOTH. IF I TURNED THE LIGHT SWITCH OFF & BACK ON, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD COME BACK ON. THE PROBLEM WAS VERY INTERMITTENT AT FIRST (STARTING AT 41000 MILES) BUT BECAME A REAL NUISANCE AT 49000 MILES. I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AT AROUND 52000 MILES. THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE BULBS. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH BULBS AND THE PROBLEM STILL CONTINUES. *TR
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEM AS MOST WITH THE PRIUS HID HEADLIGHTS. WHILE DRIVING IN DARK OR LOW LIGHT TIMES THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FAIL NEARLY CAUSING ACCIDENTS. USUALLY IT IS ONE HEADLIGHT, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL TIMES IN WHICH BOTH HEADLIGHTS HAVE FAILED (SERIOUS ISSUE). BY TURNING THE HEADLIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON TEMPORARY FIXES THE PROBLEM, YET THE PROBLEM KEEPS OCCURRING DAILY. IN JAN. 2010 TOYOTA SETTLED A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT WHICH ONLY HELPED THOSE PERSONNEL WHOSE MILEAGE WAS FEWER THAN 50,000. WHAT ABOUT THE REST OF THE OWNERS OUT THERE THAT ARE STILL LEFT WITH THIS ENORMOUS SAFETY ISSUE. A SAFETY RECALL NEEDS TO BE DONE TO PROTECT ALL OWNERS SAFETY, NOT JUST THOSE WHOSE VEHICLE MILEAGE IS UNDER 50,000. *TR
I OWN A 2007 PRIUS. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE WHEN A CAR IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED ABRUPTLY. WHEN I STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, THERE WAS A DELAY BEFORE IT ENGAGED. TO PREVENT RUNNING INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, I VEERED TO THE LEFT WHILE CONTINUING TO STEP DOWN ON THE BRAKE WITH MORE FORCE. WHEN IT ENGAGED, THE CAR WAS OUT OF CONTROL "FISH TAILING" FROM SIDE TO SIDE. IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, THERE IS NO ROOM FOR A DELAY. THIS CREATED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. I EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR DELAY WHILE DRIVING IN THE CITY, NOT ON A HIGHWAY. IT WAS THE SAME SENSATION OF THE BRAKES FAILING. WHEN ONE IS BRAKING IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, THIS IS TERRIFYING AND NOT ACCEPTABLE AND NOT SAFE... *TR
WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES THEY SEEM TO START TO BRAKE AND THEN THE CAR ACTUALLY GOES FASTER FOR A COUPLE SECONDS AND THEN IT BRAKES AGAIN. IT HAS ALWAYS DONE THIS AND HAS BEEN DISCONCERTING TO ME. IT JUST FEELS LIKE THE BRAKES ARE FAILING BUT THEN THEY KICK BACK IN. I GUESS AS I UNDERSTAND IT, ITS WHEN THE ABS KICKS IN, BUT IT SEEMS LIKE AN UNNECESSARILY LONG TIME FROM ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE DRIVEN. *TR
MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HEADLAMPS ON THE PASSENGER SIDE BURNED OUT AT 50000 MILES THEN A MONTH LATER THE DRIVER SIDE BURNED OUT. AFTER PAYING 275.00 FOR EACH NEW HEADLIGHT TO BE REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE HAS BURNT OUT AGAIN WITH ONLY 30000 MILES USAGE. I PURCHASED THE CAR TO SAVE MONEY ON THE FUEL MILEAGE BUT END UP SAVING NOTHING DUE TO SERVICE WORK ON REPLACING HEADLAMPS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD FAIL TO ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BULB, STATING IT WAS DEFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND PREVIOUSLY PROVIDED REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE LIGHT BULB BUT THE OFFER WAS NO LONGER EFFECTIVE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 37,432. UPDATED 10/27/10. *LJ
LIGHTING: 1) HEADLIGHTS: THIS IS THE DATE OF THE FIRST TIME FAILURE OF MY HIGH-INTENSITY HEADLIGHTS. DRIVING UP A REMOTE CURVY MOUNTAIN ROAD ONE HEADLIGHT, MY DRIVERS HEADLIGHT, FAILED AS I WAS NEGOTIATING A HAIRPIN CORNER AND I ALMOST CRA SHED AS I INSTINCTIVELY TOOK MY HAND OFF THE WHEEL TO TURN ON AND OFF MY LIGHTS. THE DEFECTIVE LIGHT TURNED BACK ON USING THIS METHOD. NOW, BOTH HEADLIGHTS ARE FAILING, SOMETIMES BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. I USE THE SAME METHOD TO RESTART THEM, ONLY NOW, THEY ARE NOLONGER FUNCTIONAL SO I CANNOT DRIVE AT NIGHT, OR ON ROADS DURING THE DAY THAT REQUIRE HEADLIGHTS ON. DEALER WOULD NOT WARRANTY THEM AT FIRST FAILURE BECAUSE I WAS 300 MILES OVER WARRANTY PERIOD. 2) TAILLIGHTS: HAVE HAD TO REPLACE BOTH AS THEY BURNED OUT PRIOR TO 36,000 MILES. 3) FRONT RUNNING LIGHTS: ALSO FROM ABOUT 30,000 MILES ON, I HAVE REPLACED THEM EACH, 5 TIMES AS THEY BURNED OUT. NOW THE FUSE BLOWS ANYTIME I INSTALL A NEW FRONT RUNNING LIGHT. *TR
AFTER ABOUT FIVE MINUTES, (VARIES GREATLY), ONE HEADLIGHT WILL OFTEN GO OUT. USUALLY IT IS THE LEFT, BUT NOT ALWAYS. SOMETIMES IT IS THE RIGHT. THE CAR HAS HID HEADLIGHTS, AND I USUALLY RUN THEM AT ALL TIMES FOR SAFETY. THE HEADLIGHTS WILL FLICKER SUBTLY BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN THE TWO UNTIL ONE GOES OUT. GOING BACK AND FORTH BETWEEN HIGH AND LOW BEAMS CHANGES NOTHING, BUT QUICKLY TURNING THEM OFF AND THEN BACK ON WILL RE-SET THE CONDITION, THAT IS, THE HEADLIGHTS BOTH COME ON. TAPPING ON ALL KNOWN CONNECTIONS HAS NO EFFECT, AND EITHER DRIVING OR TRYING TO DUPLICATE THE CONDITION PARKED SEEMS TO GIVE THE SAME RESULTS, THAT IS, THE CONDITION IS EASILY DUPLICATED WHILE PARKED. *TR
THE DRIVE SIDE HEADLIGHT RANDOMLY GOES OUT WHILE DRIVING. TURNING THE HEADLIGHTS OFF AND THEN BACK ON WILL RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. THIS HAPPENS MANY TIMES A MONTH. LAST OCCURRENCE WAS YESTERDAY. *TR
WHEN CAR GOES OVER A BUMP IN THE PROCESS OF BRAKING, THE BRAKES MOMENTARILY DISENGAGE. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED. THE DATE STATED BELOW SIMPLY IS THAT OF ITS LATEST MANIFESTATION. *TR
WHEN GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP OR A BUMPY ROAD, THE BRAKES SEEM TO FAIL MOMENTARILY, OR THE BRAKES FAIL TO RESPOND. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WITHOUT WARNING ALL OF THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON INCLUDING THE BRAKE LIGHT COMES AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO DETERMINE WHAT CAUSED THE FAILURE TO OCCUR. TOYOTA STATED THAT THEY WILL HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED IN ORDER TO PERFORM AN INSPECTION. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38000.
TOYOTA PRIUS HID HEADLIGHTS GO OUT INTERMITTENTLY. IF YOU POWER THEM OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN, SOMETIMES THEY'LL WORK. SINCE THEY GO OUT WITHOUT WARNING AND IRREGULARLY, IT'S IMPOSSIBLE TO TELL IF THEY ARE ACTUALLY ON OR OFF WHILE DRIVING. TOYOTA TECHNICIANS REFUSE TO REPLACE HEADLIGHT IF IT IS WORKING WHEN THEY TEST, LEADING TO FALSE SENSE OF SECURITY ON THE PART OF THE DRIVER. *TR
1. ONLY NOTICEABLE DURING NIGHTTIME DRIVING. 2. THE PASSENGER SIDE HID HEADLAMP SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING. LOSS OF LIGHTING FOR PEDESTRIANS AND ROAD SIGNS ON RIGHT SIDE OF ROAD AND HEADLAMP OUT WHILE DRIVING IS ILLEGAL. 3. REPLACED HEADLAMP BUT PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. SWAPPED BULBS WITH THE DRIVER'S SIDE PROBLEM REMAINED ON PASSENGER SIDE. TURNING THE LIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON TEMPORALLY FIXES THE PROBLEM BUT IS VERY UNSAFE AT NIGHT. *TR
LEFT FRONT HEADLIGHT GOES OUT AFTER A FEW MINUTES. IF YOU TURN THE LIGHTS OFF TO LET THEM COOL, IT WILL COME BACK ON FOR A FEW MORE MINUTES.
INTERMITTENT RIGHT HID HEADLAMP. PROBLEM STARTED ABOUT 40K MILES. THE LIGHT DIMS, FLICKERS AND GOES OUT. TURNING LIGHTS OFF TO ON WILL FIX ISSUE TEMPORARILY. SAME PROBLEM REPORTED BY THOUSANDS. REPAIR COSTS VARY FROM $300 TO $2000. THE PROBLEM OCCURS DAILY. EACH TIME THERE IS A RISK OF BEING IN ACCIDENT. TOYOTA AND NHTSA ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT NOTHING BEING DONE ABOUT IT. *TR
THE LATCH ON THE HATCH OF MY 2007 PRIUS HAS MELTED INTO A GOOEY MESS. IT INTERFERES WITH THE OPERATION OF THE LATCH MAKING IT DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE HATCH. I STARTED NOTICING THIS AT THE 3-3.5 YEAR MARK, NOW IT IS A BLACK GLOB THAT COMES OFF ON MY HAND WHENEVER I ACCESS THE LATCH. *TR
EVERYTHING ABOUT MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS IS GREAT EXCEPT FOR THE LATCH FOR THE BACK HATCH. THERE IS A RUBBER COVER FOR THE LATCH THAT YOU HAVE TO PUSH TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH. THIS RUBBER HAS MELTED. IT MAKES IF DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH IN ANY KIND OF AN EMERGENCY. RIGHT NOW, IF YOU TOUCH THE LATCH YOU GET A THICK COATING OF MELTED RUBBER ON YOUR HAND. SOMETIMES THE LATCH FAILS TO OPEN AT ALL. YOU STILL GET THE BLACK MELTED RUBBER ON YOUR HAND. THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN TO A 4 YEAR OLD VEHICLE. I LIVE IN A HOT PART OF THE COUNTRY - THE MISSISSIPPI GULF COAST - AND RUBBER COVERS FOR HATCH LATCHES SHOULD BE ABLE TO WITHSTAND SUMMER HEAT DOWN HERE. *TR
YESTERDAY I WAS DRIVING BACK FROM DROPPING OFF MY SON AT SCHOOL, GETTING ON THE FREEWAY, MY GAS PEDAL WAS ABOUT 1/2 WAY DEPRESSED, THE NEXT THING I KNOW THE GAS PEDAL IS LEAVING MY FOOT AS IF IN CRUISE CONTROL AND FLOORING ITSELF, THE CAR ENGINE IS RACING FULL SPEED, FORTUNATELY I HAD RUN THIS THROUGH MY HEAD BEFORE, AND I WAS COMPETENT ENOUGH TO APPLY THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD, PUT THE CAR IN NEUTRAL AND SAFELY PULL OFF THE FREEWAY AND TURN OFF THE CAR. SO I WAS TOWED INTO TOYOTA, GIVEN A LOANER CAR AND TOLD THAT SOMEONE FROM THE FACTORY WOULD COME OUT TO RUN SOME TESTS. FIRST LET ME STATE, THAT AFTER THIS WAS OVER I DID LOOK DOWN TO SEE IF MY FLOOR MAT WAS A FACTOR IN THIS, BUT ALSO KNOWING THAT THE PEDAL HAD LEFT MY FOOT AND HEADED FOR THE FLOOR, THE FLOOR MAT WAS A GOOD 2 INCHES FROM THE PEDAL. SO THIS MORNING TOYOTA CALLS ME TO SAY THAT THEY HAVE DETERMINED THAT IT INDEED WAS MY FLOOR MAT, NO DOUBTS IN THEIR MINDS ABOUT THAT, SO THEY HAVE GIVEN ME A NEW FLOOR MAT AND TOLD ME MY CAR IS FINE. THERE IS NO DOUBT IN MY MIND THAT THIS IS AN ELECTRICAL PROBLEM, NOT A FLOOR MAT ISSUE. *TR
WHENEVER I BRAKE WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP, SUCH AS A MANHOLE COVER, POTHOLE, OR COBBLESTONE ROAD, THE ABS SYSTEM ENGAGES AND FOR A MOMENT THE BRAKE DOES NOT SEEM TO BE WORKING, THE CAR IS NOT SLOWING. I AM WORRIED IT COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT IF ANOTHER CAR WERE CLOSE IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN MY HUSBAND MENTIONED THE PROBLEM TO THE TOYOTA DEALER, THE BRAKES WERE CHECKED AND WE WERE TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. HOWEVER, THIS CONTINUES TO HAPPEN AND THE MOMENT WITHOUT BRAKING IS TOO LONG FOR COMFORT. *TR

2008 PRIUS-BRAKES RELEASE WHEN ROLLING OVER ROUGH SURFACES. THIS HAS HAPPENED DOZENS OF TIMES. I HAVE LEARNED TO START THE BRAKING EARLY IF I SEE ROUGH PAVEMENT, BUT THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS AT NIGHT. *TR
2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE THROTTLE MALFUNCTION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED OUT OF CONTROL AND CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE THROTTLE BEING STUCK OPEN, PRIOR TO THE ACCIDENT. ALSO, THE AIR BAG LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER FOUND AN OPEN CIRCUIT IN THE SPIRAL CABLE. *JB
THE HEADLIGHTS ON MY 2007 PRIUS COME AND GO. THE PROBLEM IS A DEFECT IN THE HEADLIGHTS AND THE FIX IS MORE THAN $500. FOR THE HEADLIGHTS. THIS IS REALLY DANGEROUS BECAUSE I THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM AND I LOOK THEY ARE OKAY. THEN SOMEONE TELLS ME MY HEADLIGHT IS OFF AND IT IS BUT WHEN I LOOK AT IT LATER, THEY ARE WORKING. I SUSPECT THAT THEY HAVE BEEN DOING THIS A LONG TIME BUT I DID NOT REALIZE IT. THIS IS DANGEROUS. I WANT A RECALL!! THIS IS WORSE THAN THE PEDAL PROBLEM. *TR
I OWN A 2007 PRIUS THAT HAS A BRAKE ISSUE CONCERNING ME. WHEN THE BRAKES ARE ENGAGED AND I GO OVER A ROUGH SPOT OR BUMP, THE BRAKES "FAIL" FOR ABOUT 1 SECOND AND IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE CAR IS PROPELLED FORWARD. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY THE DEALER ON 2 OCCASIONS THAT "IT'S JUST THE ABS BRAKES KICKING IN", HOWEVER I HAVE NEVER HAD THIS HAPPEN WITH ANY OTHER CAR I HAVE DRIVEN. I HAVE NOT HAD AN ACCIDENT (YET) BUT HAVE BECOME EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS WHEN I CAN IDENTIFY A SPOT IN THE ROAD THAT MIGHT CAUSE TROUBLE. THE LACK OF BRAKES FOR EVEN 1 SECOND MIGHT MEAN THAT I AM UNABLE TO STOP FROM HITTING A CAR AHEAD OF ME IF THAT CAR STOPS QUICKLY AND THE ROAD IF ROUGH. *TR
MY 2007 PRIUS HAS THE HID HEADLAMPS, WHICH ARE TOO COSTLY TO REPAIR AND WILL RANDOMLY GO OUT WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT...CLEARLY DANGEROUS. I TRY TO HAVE THE BULBS REPLACED AND TOYOTA DEALER SAYS ITS A 200.00 TO 300.00 DOLLAR JOB TO REPAIR (MONEY THAT I DO NOT HAVE) WHILE THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY THE LAS VEGAS DEALER FIXED THE ISSUE ( OR I THOUGHT THEY DID) BUT LESS THEN TWO YEARS LATER I AM HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND NOW TOYOTA WILL NOT REPAIR IT CAUSE IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER ONLY ABOUT 3 YEARS USE, THE RUBBER COVER ON THE HATCH RELEASE HANDLE (THE EXTERIOR HANDLE OF THE REAR HATCH) OF OUR 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS, MELTED INTO A STICKY TARRY BLACK RUBBERY GOOEY MESS. I CAN BEST DESCRIBE IT AS BEING A VISCOUS BLACK GLOB LIKE ROOFING TAR. TO OPEN THE HATCH, YOU HAVE TO TOUCH THIS BLACK GOO EACH TIME, WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO OPERATE THE HATCH RELEASE. WE BELIEVE THIS MELTING PROCESS STARTED AT ABOUT THE 2 YR. MARK. I THOUGHT THAT THIS MIGHT BE A SINGULAR ISSUE, BUT HAVE FOUND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL CAR OWNERS, PARTICULARLY IN FLORIDA. WE ALSO LIVE IN FLORIDA. TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS, AND IS SELLING THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS FOR $96 PLUS REPAIR COSTS, AND HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT RECALLING THIS. FROM A SAFETY PERSPECTIVE, THIS MEANS YOU CAN EXPERIENCE EXTREME DIFFICULTY OPENING THE REAR HATCH (A LIFE SAFETY ACCESS POINT), AND WILL GET STICKY BLACK TAR ON YOU FROM THE MELTED DOWN RUBBER COVER OF THE EXTERIOR HATCH RELEASE HANDLE. TO ME, THIS IS BOTH A SERIOUS LIFE SAFETY ISSUE AND A SERIOUS QUALITY DEFECT THAT TOYOTA IS OPTING TO IGNORE AND ONLY FIXING ON VEHICLES WITH EXTENDED WARRANTIES, SINCE THE FAILURE APPEARS TO OCCUR AT AROUND THE 3 YEAR MARK (IE AFTER 3 YEARS OF EXPOSURE TO THE BRIGHT SUN IN FLORIDA FOR EXAMPLE). I AM AWARE OF THE OUTSTANDING WORK DONE BY NHTSA ON OTHER SAFETY ISSUES, INCLUDING THE PROBLEM WITH RUSTY FRAMES ON 02 ISUZU AXIOMS, AND I FIND THIS PROBLEM TO BE SIMILAR IN NATURE, SO I AM ASKING FOR YOUR AGENCY TO TAKE A LOOK AT THESE INSTANCES AND ALSO TO INQUIRE FROM TOYOTA WHY THEY ARE NOT RECALLING THESE HANDLES THAT ARE MELTING IN THE SUN!!! IT'S OUTRAGEOUS. I THINK A DOOR HANDLE OR HATCH HANDLE SHOULD BE MADE TO LAST MORE THAN 3 YEARS. THIS FAILURE OCCURS WHENEVER ONE WHEEL LOOSES TRACTION WITH THE ROAD. INSTEAD OF THE ANTILOCK BRAKING KICKING IN, THE BRAKES ON ALL WHEELS ARE BACKED OFF GIVING THE FEELING THE CAR IS ACCELERATING. THIS HAPPENS WHEN YOU GO OVER A BUMP OR SNOW. ON SNOW YOU HAVE TO ALLOW ADDITIONAL BRAKING DISTANT. THIS IS THE SAME PROBLEM AS DESCRIBED FOR THE 2010 PRIUS. *TR
SUMMARY: MY CAR BEGAN ACCELERATING WHILE I WAS IN PARK. I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. TWO DAYS AGO, I DROVE TO MY DESTINATION, PULLED INTO A PARKING SPOT, AND TURNED OFF THE CAR. I WAS EARLY, SO I TURNED THE CAR BACK ON (SO I COULD LISTEN TO THE RADIO WHILE I WAITED). THE CAR WAS IN PARK AND I DID NOT HAVE MY FEET ON ANY PEDALS. THE CAR WAS ON FOR LESS THAN A MINUTE WHEN IT BEGAN TO DRIVE FORWARD. I BOTH HEARD THE SOUND OF THE MOTOR ENGAGING AND VISUALLY PROCESSED THAT THE CAR WAS MOVING. I IMMEDIATELY STEPPED ON THE BRAKE HARD AND THE CAR IMMEDIATELY CAME TO A STOP. MY 4-YEAR-OLD WAS DISTRESSED BECAUSE THE ROLLING AND HARD STOP MADE A BIG JOLT. THE CAR WAS STILL IN PARK. I RELEASED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE CAR STAYED STILL. I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS RELATED, BUT MY CAR HEADLIGHTS RANDOMLY TURN OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING. IF I TOGGLE THE SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON, THEY ALWAYS COME BACK ON. I TOOK IT TO THE LOCAL DEALER, WHERE THE REPAIR GUY TOLD ME THEY FREQUENTLY SEE THIS PROBLEM, AND ALL THEY DO IS REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS (WHICH MADE NO SENSE TO ME, BECAUSE THE BULBS AREN'T BURNED OUT). I WOULD SAY THIS PROBLEM HAPPENS ABOUT ONCE A WEEK. *TR
HID LIGHTS TURN OFF ANYTIME THEY WANT FOR NO REASON. TURN LIGHTS ON AND OFF TURN BACK ON POSSIBLY STAY ON FOR SECONDS OR FOR AWHILE. THIS IS COMPLETE CRAP AND VERY FRUSTRATING. FOR APPROXIMATELY THE PAST SIX MONTHS THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT IN OUR CAR HAS GONE OUT INTERMITTENTLY. THIS OCCURS WHEN THERE IS ANY VIBRATION IN THE ROAD FROM, FOR EXAMPLE, UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES. ADDITIONALLY, OUR CAR ACCELERATES AFTER HITTING A BUMP OR A POTHOLE. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY 2007 PRIUS IN A CONGESTED AREA, THE BRAKES DID NOT RESPOND WHEN DEPRESSED QUICKLY CONTRIBUTING OR CAUSING A LOW-SPEED COLLISION WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I FOUND THIS ARTICLE ON CNET REVIEWS THAT ACCURATELY MATCHES MY ISSUE. "TOYOTA REDESIGNED THE BRAKING SYSTEMS FOR THE 2010 PRIUS. THAT APPEARS TO BE TOYOTA'S RESPONSE TO THE FACT THAT THE U.S. GENERATION 2 PRIUS (2004-2009) HAS HAD LOW-SPEED BRAKE FAILURES REPORTED TO THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION (NHTSA) AT 31 TIMES THE RATE OF SUCH FAILURES REPORTED FOR THE 2004-2009 COROLLA, WHICH OF COURSE HAS TRADITIONAL BRAKES. MANY OF THE PRIUS LOW SPEED BRAKE FAILURES WERE IN LOW-SPEED CITY TRAFFIC, RESULTING IN REAR-END COLLISIONS WITHOUT INJURY. IT APPEARS THAT THE SEVERAL COMPUTERS THAT CONTROL THE COMPLEX BRAKING SYSTEMS WERE TOO BUSY CALCULATING THE MOST EFFICIENT WAY TO APPLY THE BRAKES, AND DID NOT GET AROUND TO ACTUALLY APPLYING THEM, UNTIL IT WAS TOO LATE." *TR

WE HAVE A '07 TOYOTA PRIUS. OVER THE LAST SIX MONTHS THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE BEEN GOING ON AND OFF, USUALLY ONLY ONE BUT RECENTLY BOTH HAVE BEEN SHUTTING OFF. YOU CAN TURN OFF THE LIGHTS THEN TURN THEM BACK ON. THE DEALER SAID THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE SAID THAT THEY WILL LIMIT HOW MUCH THE DEALER CAN CHARGE FOR THE BULB BUT NOTHING ELSE. I THEN CALLED THE DEALER TO SET UP THE APPOINTMENT TO REPLACE THE BULBS AND HE SAID THERE MAY BE OTHER ISSUES THEY WILL CHECK FIRST. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS A PREVALENT PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA IS NOT TAKING OWNERSHIP OF. IT IS ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE. WE WILL NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR AFTER DARK. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK AND THE SPEED INCREASED TO 55 MPH. THE CONTACT WAS FORCED TO KICK THE PEDAL IN ORDER TO RELEASE IT; HOWEVER, WITHIN A FEW SECONDS IT BECAME STUCK AGAIN. THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN AS THE CONTACT CONTINUED TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL FIRMLY. HE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE REPAIR FOR THE RECALL ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS PERFORMED. THE DEALER DID NOT EXPLAIN THE REPAIR IN DETAIL. HE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER BUT WAS OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 31,541.
ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER FOR FAULTY HEADLAMPS BUT AS SOON AS I POWER THE LIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON THE BULB IS OPERATIONAL. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO TOYOTA MULTIPLE TIMES AND THEY HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY ARE TELLING ME TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE WIRING FOR A PROBLEM THAT HAS BEEN POSTED PUBLICLY SINCE THE 2006 MODELS CAME OUT. THIS SHOULD BE COVERED BY A RECALL AS IT IS UNSAFE. THE LIGHTS GO OFF WHILE THE CAR IS STILL OR IN MOTION. NOTE I BOUGHT THE CAR USED IN 2010 BUT IT'S CLEAR THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE SINCE THE CAR WAS NEW BASED ON THE WEB FORUMS I HAVE BEEN READING.

ANTI LOCK BRAKES TAKE A SECOND OR TWO TO GRAB WHEN TRAVELING ON BUMPY, UNEVEN, BAD ROAD SURFACES. THIS HAS OCCURRED SINCE DAY ONE THAT I RECEIVED THE CAR AND I HAVE ALLOWED EXTRA SPACE TO STOP BECAUSE OF IT. I DID ASK MY DEALERSHIP 2 YEARS AGO ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND THEY COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT HAPPENED ON 4/29/2010 AND I SLID THROUGH A RED LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER BUT NO REPAIRS WERE MADE WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 65,000.

I PURCHASED A NEW 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS THAT CURRENTLY HAS 50K MILES. THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH HID HEADLAMPS. THESE LAMPS INTERMITTENTLY HAVE STARTED CYCLING ON AND OFF. ONE NIGHT I SUDDENLY LOST BOTH HEADLAMPS. WHEN YOU FLICK THE SWITCH ON AND OFF, THE LAMPS COME BACK ON AGAIN... A LEAST FOR A WHILE. I FOUND OUT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS DEFECT! TOYOTA HAS DISCONTINUED THESE LIGHTS IN THEIR 2010 VERSIONS. THEY KNOW THEY ARE DEFECTIVE! TOYOTA BLAMES THE BULBS BUT THIS SOUNDS LIKE A 25,000 VOLT POWER SUPPLY PROBLEM. THESE BULBS OPERATE JUST LIKE NEON LIGHTED SIGNS! THE BULB IS NOTHING BUT A GAS FILLED TUBE. A SUDDEN VOLTAGE DIP AND THE BULB GOES OUT. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM. FURTHERMORE MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER (JOEL CONFER) WANTS $220.00 PER HEADLAMP TO REPLACE THE BULBS AND THE VEHICLE IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. TOYOTA WAS CHARGING $300.00 AT ONE TIME FOR EACH BULB! THIS IS ALSO AN ISSUE FOR THE FTC REGARDING THIS PRACTICE WE WERE TOLD THESE LAMPS LAST 2-3X AS LONG AS HALOGENS. THIS ITSELF IS A FRAUD AND A LIE. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 35MPH, THE HID HEADLIGHTS WOULD FAIL INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WERE NO COMPLAINTS SIMILAR TO HIS FAILURE. ANY REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE WOULD BE AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER HOWEVER, HIS CALL WENT UNANSWERED. THERE HAVE BEEN NO REPAIRS MADE TO THE VEHICLE TO DATE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I AM FILING THIS SAME COMPLAINT. HID HEADLAMP FAILURE ON MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. I HAVE REPLACED MY HEADLAMPS THREE TIMES IN THE LAST TWO YEARS. TOYOTA INITIALLY WANTED $350 JUST FOR THE HEADLAMP, PLUS ADDITIONAL $150 LABOR PER BULB. I ASSUME THAT PRESSURE FROM TOYOTA OWNERS AND POSSIBLY THE NHTSA FORCED TOYOTA TO ISSUE IT'S HID HEADLAMP CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM. WHOOPEE! THOUSANDS OF AMERICAN OWNERS ARE STILL DRIVING WITH DEFECTIVE HEADLAMPS BECAUSE TOYOTA'S "PROGRAM" DOES NOT ADDRESS ANYTHING BUT THE COST OF REPLACEMENT. THANKS FOR NOTHING. REDUCING THE COST TO REPLACE DEFECTIVE HEADLAMPS FROM $350/BULB TO $150/BULB, PLUS ANOTHER $150/BULB FOR INSTALLATION IS NOTHING MORE THAN AN INSULT TO OUR INTELLIGENCE. THEIR HID SYSTEM IS STILL DEFECTIVE. THE HEADLAMPS STILL FAIL WITH REGULARITY. I HAVE BEEN PULLED OVER THREE TIMES IN THE LAST FIVE MONTHS FOR HAVING A HEADLAMP OUT. MY LIFE AND THE LIFE OF THE OFFICER, WHO IS JUST DOING HIS DUTY, ARE BOTH IN JEOPARDY AS WE SIT ON THE SIDE OF THE INTERSTATE AT NIGHT WITH CARS AND TRUCKS WHIZZING BY AT 70+ MPH, ALL BECAUSE THE NHTSA IS NOT ISSUING A RECALL ON AN OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE SYSTEM. WHAT WILL IT TAKE? A HIGHLY PUBLICIZED DEATH BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING? THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS, INCLUDING VIDEO PROOF OF THE HID BULBS BLINKING ON AND OFF ONE SIDE AT A TIME, REGARDING THIS SYSTEM ON MESSAGE BOARDS ALL OVER THE INTERNET. THERE IS AT LEAST ONE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT PENDING AGAINST TOYOTA OVER THIS ISSUE. NOT EVERY OWNER IS SAVVY ENOUGH TO UNDERSTAND THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT THEIR'S ALONE. THE HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS YOU HAVE RECEIVED ARE JUST THE TIP OF THE ICEBERG. PLEASE ISSUE A MANDATORY RECALL BEFORE SOMEONE DIES, IF IT HASN'T HAPPENED ALREADY. THANKS. *TR
