THE REAR HATCH HANDLE ASSEMBLY HAS MELTED COMPLETELY INTO A GOOEY MESS. THIS HANDLE WAS REPLACED BY TOYOTA UNDER WARRANTY IN 2009.. AND THE REPLACEMENT MELTED COMPLETELY AS DID THE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT. BUT NOW THIS WILL COST APPX. $300 TO REPLACE. THERE IS OTHER WAY TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH . THIS PART IS CLEARLY DEFECTIVE AND RESULTS IN NO WAY TO ACCESS THE SPARE TIRE AND OTHER SAFETY EQUIPMENT IN THE HATCH. UPDATE 9/15/15*CW *CN
THE RUBBER COVER ON THE HATCH RELEASE HANDLE (THE EXTERIOR HANDLE OF THE REAR HATCH) OF OUR 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS, MELTED INTO A STICKY TARRY BLACK RUBBERY GOOEY MESS. I CAN BEST DESCRIBE IT AS BEING A VISCOUS BLACK GLOB LIKE ROOFING TAR. TO OPEN THE HATCH, YOU HAVE TO TOUCH THIS BLACK GOO EACH TIME, WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO OPERATE THE HATCH RELEASE. I THOUGHT THAT THIS MIGHT BE A SINGULAR ISSUE, BUT HAVE FOUND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO SEVERAL CAR OWNERS. TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS, AND IS SELLING THE ENTIRE WIRING HARNESS FOR $96 PLUS REPAIR COSTS, AND HAS DONE NOTHING ABOUT RECALLING THIS. FROM A SAFETY PERSPECTIVE, THIS MEANS YOU CAN EXPERIENCE EXTREME DIFFICULTY OPENING THE REAR HATCH (A LIFE SAFETY ACCESS POINT), AND WILL GET STICKY BLACK TAR ON YOU FROM THE MELTED DOWN RUBBER COVER OF THE EXTERIOR HATCH RELEASE HANDLE. TO ME, THIS IS BOTH A SERIOUS LIFE SAFETY ISSUE AND A SERIOUS QUALITY DEFECT THAT TOYOTA IS OPTING TO IGNORE AND ONLY FIXING ON VEHICLES WITH EXTENDED WARRANTIES, SINCE THE FAILURE APPEARS TO OCCUR AT AROUND THE 3 YEAR MARK. I AM AWARE OF THE OUTSTANDING WORK DONE BY NHTSA ON OTHER SAFETY ISSUES, INCLUDING THE PROBLEM WITH RUSTY FRAMES ON 02 ISUZU AXIOMS, AND I FIND THIS PROBLEM TO BE SIMILAR IN NATURE, SO I AM ASKING FOR YOUR AGENCY TO TAKE A LOOK AT THESE INSTANCES AND ALSO TO INQUIRE FROM TOYOTA WHY THEY ARE NOT RECALLING THESE HANDLES THAT ARE MELTING. IT'S OUTRAGEOUS. I THINK A DOOR HANDLE OR HATCH HANDLE SHOULD BE MADE TO LAST MORE THAN 3 YEARS. PASSENGER FRONT HEAD LAMP INTERMITTENTLY GOES FROM ON TO OFF TO ON... *TR
MY HID HEADLIGHTS FLICKER OR TURN THEMSELVES OFF AS I AM DRIVING. IF THE HEADLAMP IS OFF ALL I HAVE TO DO IS TURN THEM OFF THEN BACK ON AND THEY RESET SO THAT BOTH ARE ON AGAIN. UPON RESEARCH THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM WITH THE PRIUS AND IT IS FRUSTRATING BECAUSE IT OCCURS WHENEVER THE HEADLIGHTS ARE ON AND I HAD ONLY OWNED THE VEHICLE A SHORT TIME WHEN IT BEGAN. I HAVE BEEN QUOTED THIS AS BEING A $1200 REPAIR. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS WITH HID HEADLIGHTS. RECENTLY THE DRIVERS HEADLIGHT WILL GO OUT FOR A SHORT TIME (10-20 MIN) THEN COME BACK ON. IT WILL DO THIS INTERMITTENTLY. *TR
ON MAY 21, 2009, I HAD A REAREND COLLISION, WHERE MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS DID NOT STOP, AS THE TRAFFIC STOPPED AT A RED LIGHT. I WAS LESS THAN 10 MILES/HR. MY CAR HAS EXTENDED WARRANTIES AS WELL AS CHANGE OF OIL EVERY 5K MILES PAID IN ADVANCE. NO ONE AT THE TOYOTA SERVICE DEALERSHIP DID NOT FIND ANY PROBLEMS WITH MY BRAKES. NOW I HEAR ON THE NEWS ABOUT 2010 PRIUS BRAKE PROBLEMS. I DO BELIEVE THE BRAKE PROBLEM IS ALSO IN MY 2007 PRIUS MODEL. *TR
PRIUS 2007, FAILED TO STOP AT VERY LOW SPEED. WITH A GUEST INSIDE MY CAR, I DROVE OVER A RAILROAD TRACK. THERE WAS A STREET LIGHT UP FRONT, AND A COUPLE OF CARS AHEAD OF MINE. AS I PRESSED MY BRAKES, THE CAR DID NOT STOP. MY CAR REAR ENDED THE FRONT CAR, AND MY INSURANCE WAS CHARGED FOR IT. INDEED, I HAD NO IDEA THE PRIUS COULD HAVE A BRAKE PROBLEM. TO MAKE IT LESS EXPENSIVE FOR MY FUTURE INSURANCE, I DID NOT HAD MY FRONT BUMPER REPLACED, AND THE DRIVER SIDE OUTSIDE MIRROR PLASTIC COVER, THINKING THAT PERHAPS THE INSURANCE WOULD NOT GO UP. NOW I HAVE A DOUBLED CAR INSURANCE PAYMENT. THE ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON MAY 21, 2009. I TOOK MY CAR ON THE 26 MAY 2009 FOR A 40 MILES MAINTENANCE PAID IN ADVANCE WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR. THE BRAKES WERE ALSO CHECKED AND NO PROBLEMS FOUND BY THE TOYOTA DEALER. I TOOK MY CAR AGAIN FEB 20, 2010, AGAIN, NO PROBLEMS FOUND. TODAY I AM RELUCTANT, ON MY MIND, IF THE PRIUS WILL STOP OR NOT WHEN BRAKES A PRESSED. CAR WAS PURCHASE ON FEBRUARY 2007. *TR
I HAVE A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. IT HAS THE HID HEADLAMPS. THEY HAVE BEEN FAILING INTERMITTENTLY SINCE LAST YEAR. WHEN I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO THE DEALER THEY ARE WORKING. I KNOW MANY OTHERS ARE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. MY CAR ONLY HAS 28,000 MILES ON IT AND THE HEADLIGHTS SHOULD NOT BE WEARING OUT YET. *TR

ONE OR BOTH HEADLIGHTS SPONTANEOUSLY TURN OFF. IT HAPPENS AT LEAST ONCE PER NIGHT AND SOMETIMES MANY TIMES. OFTEN I CAN PULL OVER AND TURN THEM ON AND OFF UNTIL THE PROBLEM CORRECTS. AT FIRST TOYOTA SAID THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. THEN THE PASSENGER SIDE WENT OUT COMPLETELY AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE WAS STILL INTERMITTANT. TOYOTA THEN REPLACED THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT AND THE DEALER TOLD ME THE TOYOTA WARRANTY MANAGER WOULDN'T LET THEM REPLACE BOTH. LATER THE SECOND HEADLIGHT WENT OUT COMPLETELY AND TOYOTA REFUSED TO FIX IT BECAUSE MY CAR HAD PASSED THE 36,000 MILE MARK. TW*
MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HEADLIGHTS GO OFF INTERMITTENTLY WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE HAD TWO HID BULBS REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY FOR THE SAME SITUATION, SO THIS IS THE THIRD BULB TO FAIL. IF LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF AND TURNED ON THE BULB WILL COME BACK TO LIFE. *TR

I RECEIVED A WARNING TICKET IN MAY 2009, AND HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA, AS I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF OTHER PRIUS OWNERS WITH THE VERY SAME PROBLEM. THERE IS A HEADLIGHT SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE TOYOTA PRIUS. IT IS HARD TO IDENTIFY WHEN YOU ARE DRIVING THE VEHICLE BECAUSE THE LIGHTS TURN ON, BUT THEY DO NOT STAY ON. SO WHEN YOU START YOUR CAR AND TURN ON THE LIGHTS THEY BOTH START ON. HOWEVER INTERMITTENTLY THERE IS A TRIGGER THAT CAUSES THE LIGHTS TO GO OUT. SOMETIMES IT IS THE PASSENGER LIGHT, SOMETIMES IT IS BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER HEADLIGHTS.SOMETIMES THEY DON'T EVER TURN OFF. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR ABOUT A YEAR AND TOOK THIS LONG TO FIGURE OUT. THE PROBLEM IS THERE IS ALWAYS "SOME" LIGHT COMING FROM ANOTHER LIGHT SOURCE AROUND THE HEADLIGHTS SO WHEN DRIVING, YOU SEE THAT THERE IS SOME LIGHT ON THE ROAD, TRICKING YOU INTO THINKING YOU HAVE BOTH HEADLIGHTS WHEN YOU REALLY DON'T. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM, ESPECIALLY DRIVING IN RURAL MOUNTAIN AREAS. WHEN THIS STARTED HAPPENING, SINCE I HAD SOME LIGHT ON THE ROAD, I THOUGHT IT WAS MY EYES OR HEALTH AND WENT TO THE EYE DOCTORS, ETC. NOT MY EYES - IT'S THE CAR. IT IS INTERRMITTENT AND BECAUSE THERE WAS SOME LIGHT ON THE ROAD I THOUGHT IT WAS MY VISION NOT THE HEADLIGHTS. WHEN THE LIGHTS DO THIS YOU HAVE A HARD TIME SEEING CURVES IN THE DARK ETC. IT IS HARDER TO DETECT IN CITY DRIVING WHICH WE DO MOSTLY. WE DID RECEIVE A LETTER FRM TOYOTA ABOUT THE HEADLIGHTS INDICATING SOME PEOPLE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE HEADLIGHTS AND TOYOTA ERRONEOUSLY CHARGED THEM FOR THE SWITCH AND THEY WOULD BE REIMBURSED. HOWEVER, IT DID NOT DESCRIBE THE PROBLEM THE SAME WAY IT HAPPENS SO WE DIDN'T THINK THERE WAS AN ISSUE. THERE ARE MANY PEOPLE ON THE INTERNET REPORTING THIS SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND TOYOTA IS CONSIDERING THIS REGULAR MAINTENANCE AND WANTS EVERYONE TO PAY FOR IT THEMSELVES. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL NOTICE DESCRIBING EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS AND THEY SHOULD PAY TO FIX IT. I AM THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. MY BRAKES SEEM TO FAIL MOMENTARILY WHEN I AM TRYING TO STOP AT A BUMPY INTERSECTION. THIS HAS HAPPENED MORE ONE TIME. GAS TANK WILL NOT FILL UP FULLY. ANY AUTO SHUTOFF GAS PUMP WILL START SHUTTING OFF WITH ABOUT 1.5 GALLONS TO GO. IF I DRIBBLE GAS IN A LOWEST POSSIBLE DELIVERY, WE CAN FILL IT UP, BUT IT TAKES ABOUT TEN MINUTES, AND THEN IT OFTEN WILL REGURGITATE GAS WHEN IT IS FULL. WE HAVE COMPLAINED TO DEALER SEVERAL TIMES. THEY SAY THIS IS NORMAL DUE TO BLADDER IN GAS TANK. WE THINK THIS IS A DEFECT, THAT IT DOES NOT ALLOW US TO GET FULL RANGE OF TANK ON A TRIP. OUR PREVIOUS PRIUS FROM 2005 DID NOT HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. DEALER WILL NOT ADDRESS THE PROBLEM FURTHER. *TR
TOYOTA PRIUS LOSS OF ELECTICAL POWER, LOSS OF STEERING RESULTING IN CRASH IN MAY 2009 WHILE DRIVING IN A RESIDENTAL NEIGHBORHOOD AT LOW SPEEDS, PRIUS LOST ALL POWER RESULTING IN LOSS OF STEERING AND LOSS OF BRAKES RESULTING IN CRASH INTO A HIGH CURB. I HAD PRIUS TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND FILED COMPLAINT WITH DEALERSHIP AS WELL AS WITH MAIN CALIFORNIA COMPLAINT CENTER. THEY SAID THAT IT WOULD TAKE THEM 4 MONTHS TO INVESTIGATE COMPLAINT. THEY RECOMMENDED MY STORING CAR AT DEALERSHIP FOR FOUR MONTHS IF I WANTED AN INVESTIGATION. THEY WOULD NOT INVESTIGATE OTHERWISE. THEY TOLD ME THERE WAS NO CAUSE FOR CONCERN AND THAT THE POWER LOSS MUST OF RESULTED AFTER THE CRASH. THEY SAID THAT TOYOTA HAD NO SAFETY COMPLAINTS ABOUT POWER LOSS OR STEERING OR BRAKE LOSS. I WENT ON LINE AND FOUND SAME YEAR MODEL RECALL IN AUSTRALIA. THEY TOLD ME THE PRODUCTS WERE DISSIMILAR AND NOT A CAUSE FOR CONCERN. I DISAGREED. MY ROUTINE MECHANIC AT MERCHANTS TIRE AND AUTO COULD FIND NOTHING WRONG. I REPAIRED THE STRUCTURAL DAMAGE AND SOLD THE CAR SINCE TOYOTA ASSURED ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG. TOYOTA CORPORATION'S METHODOLOGY OF INVESTIGATION APPEARS TO BE DESIGNED TO STIFLE ANY MEANINGFUL DETERMINATION OF BASELINE SAFETY FAULT. THE REQUIREMENT TO STORE A CAR FOR MONTHS AT OWNERS EXPENSE AND FOR DRIVER TO HAVE NO ACCESS FOR TRANSPORTATION WOULD APPEAR TO DISCOURAGE ANY MEANINGFUL INVESTIGATION OF SAFETY CONCERN. GIVEN THE CURRENT FINDING OF BRAKE AND OTHER SAFETY DEFECTS IN TOYOTA PRODUCTS, I AM CONCERNED THAT THE POWER LOSS MAY HAVE BEEN UNDER-REPORTED BECAUSE OF THEIR UNETHICAL BUSINESS PRACTICES. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A GUARD RAIL AND THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED AND SHE WAS TRANSPORTED BY AMBULANCE TO A HOSPITAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT THE AIR BAGS ONLY DEPLOY WHEN THE WINDSHIELD BREAKS. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 8,000. UPDATED 10/13/10 *BF THE CONSUMER STATED SHE CRASHED HEAD-ON INTO THE GUARD RAIL. THE FROMT OF THE VEHICLE WAS DEMOLISHED AND NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. UPDATED 10/2110*JB

ABOUT A MONTH AGO, MY PRIUS'S DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT STARTED INTERMITTENTLY GOING OFF WITHOUT ANY WARNING. I WAS PULLED OVER BY POLICE WHEN I DISCOVERED IT. THE LIGHT WOULD COME BACK ON WHEN I TURN IT OFF THEN ON AGAIN, BUT IT WILL GO OFF AGAIN SOMETIME AFTERWARDS. I PURCHASED TWO NEW BULBS, THINKING THE PROBLEM WAS IN THE BULBS; SAME PROBLEM CONSISTENTLY HAPPENS. THE DRIVER HEADLIGHT NOW DOES NOT FUNCTION ANY LONGER, EVEN WITH A NEW BULB. I PLAN TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 45 MPH THE STEERING COLUMN LOCKED. AS A CONSEQUENCE HE CRASHED INTO A WALL. HE DID NOT SUSTAIN ANY INJURIES. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLE, AND INVESTIGATE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 99,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 110,000.

I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS AND THE HEADLIGHTS INTERMITTENTLY TURN OFF. I CAN TURN THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF AND BACK ON AND IT USUALLY CORRECTS THE PROBLEM. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY ORDERED NEW BULBS SAYING THEY WERE GOING OUT. THE BULBS ARE HID BULBS AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID HID BULBS GO OFF INTERMITTENTLY JUST BEFORE THEY GO OUT. THIS DOES NOT SOUND LIKE IT IS REASONABLE. ALSO, I HAVE RESEARCHED THIS PROBLEM ON MANY DIFFERENT SITES AND LOCATED HUNDREDS OF THREADS THAT DESCRIBE THE SAME PROBLEM. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS STRUCK HEAD-ON BY ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE FRONT AND SIDE CURTAIN AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT INJURED HER CHEST AND NECK AREA. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INSURANCE ADJUSTER, WHO WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE WHY THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. FOR THE LAST 10 MONTHS STARTING AFTER OWNERSHIP OF THE CAR FOR APPROX 15 MONTHS, AFTER BRAKING AND WHILE AT A STOP WITH FOOT ON BRAKE PEDAL, MY 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS MAKES A LOUD SOUND LIKE A LARGE METAL COIL BEING TIGHTENED. TOYOTA HAS ATTEMPTED REPAIR THREE TIMES OVER THE LAST 10 MONTHS TO NO AVAIL. TOYOTA HAS REPEATEDLY STATED THAT HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE CAUSE BUT ARE ATTEMPTING TO DETERMINE A "FIX". AFTER THE THIRD REPAIR ATTEMPT, THE DEALER DECLARED MY CAR A "LEMON" AND SUGGESTED I CONTACT THEIR THIRD PART ARBITRATION CENTER WHO HAS NOW TURNED DOWN MY CASE BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE DEFECT WAS REPORTED WHILE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY, THE CAR NO LONGER IS UNDER WARRANTY. APRIL 18, 2009 I WAS PULLED OVER FOR HAVING MY PASSENGER'S SIDE HEADLIGHT OUT. I WAS UNAWARE OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL THAT MOMENT. APRIL 20, 2009 I TOOK IT TO A MECHANIC WHO COULD NOT GET THE PROBLEM TO REPLICATE. JUNE 26, 2009 AS MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AWAY, A FRIEND STOPPED US TO TELL US OUR HEADLIGHT WAS OUT. HE TURNED THEM OFF AND BACK ON AND THAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. JULY 4, 2009 MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING HOME AFTER DARK AND NOTICED THAT THE HEADLIGHTS WERE BOTH OUT. WE PULLED OVER AND TURNED THEM OFF AND ON AND FROM LOW BEAMS TO HIGH MULTIPLE TIMES. AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES, BOTH CAME ON. BY THE TIME WE ARRIVED HOME (7 MILES) THE DRIVER'S LIGHT WAS OFF AND THE PASSENGER'S LIGHT WAS ON. JULY 6, 2009 I TURNED ON MY CAR AND CHECKED THE HEADLIGHTS BEFORE I LEFT. NEITHER TURNED ON. (THIS WAS THE ONLY DAYLIGHT INCIDENT. THE REST WERE AT NIGHT.) THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, AS ONE OR BOTH LIGHTS WILL CUT OFF AT RANDOM GOING DOWN THE ROAD. *TR

THE LIGHTS COME BACK ON WHEN I TURN THE LIGHT CONTROL COMPLETELY OFF AND THEN TURN IT BACK ON. THE LIGHTS WILL THEN WORK FOR AWHILE BEFORE TURNING OFF AGAIN. 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS HID HEADLIGHT PROBLEM. AT APPROXIMATELY 37000 MILES MY PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WOULD SUDDENLY GO OUT. I COULD TURN THE LIGHTS OFF, THEN BACK ON IMMEDIATELY AND THE LIGHT WOULD WORK SOMETIMES FOR A FEW SECONDS, SOMETIMES FOR THE DURATION OF MY DRIVE. I CHECKED WITH MY DEALER AND HE SAID IT WAS THE LIGHT BULB AND NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND OVER $300 PLUS LABOR. I THEN BEGAN HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM WITH THE DRIVERS SIDE LIGHT, SOMETIMES THE LEFT, SOMETIMES THE RIGHT, SOMETIMES BOTH LIGHTS AT THE SAME TIME. NOT ABLE TO AFFORD TOYOTAS PRICE, OR LABOR COSTS I THEN ORDERED OEM REPLACEMENT BULBS MYSELF AND INSTALLED THEM THINKING IT WOULD FIX THE PROBLEM. IN LESS THAN ONE WEEK I WAS EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. I ASKED MY DEALER ABOUT IT AND THE FACT THAT I PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD STILL HAVE TO PAY ANY CHARGES AND THEN TURN IT INTO THE WARRANTY COMPANY TO SEE IF THEY WOULD PAY FOR THE REPAIR AFTER THE FACT. I WAS TOLD THE COST COULD BE AS MUCH AS $1800 DOLLARS. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH BULBS TWICE NOW, BUT THIS HAS NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. NOT BEING ABLE TO AFFORD THE COST FOR THE DEALER I HAVE HAD TO JUST CONTINUE TO DROVE THE VEHICLE AND MANUALLY TURN THE LIGHTS OFF AND ON TO GET THEM GOING WHEN THEY GO OUT. THIS SOUNDS TO ME LIKE A DESIGN FLAW, OR QUANTITY ISSUE CONCERNING A VERY IMPORTANT SAFETY FEATURE OF MY VEHICLE THAT MY 16 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER IS SUPPOSED TO BE DRIVING, BUT I AM TO AFRAID FOR HER SAFETY TO LET HER DRIVE IT AFTER DARK. RECENTLY I WAS DRIVING ON A DARK, WINDING ROAD AND IT WENT OUT PRESENTING AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS CONDITION. ACCORDING TO THE DISCUSSION BOARDS, THIS IS A VERY COMMON INDICATION AND VERY EXPENSIVE REMEDIATION ITEM WHICH WILL PREVENT MANY FROM FIXING DURING OUT CURRENT ECONOMIC CRISIS. I AM VERY WORRIED ABOUT MY WIFE DRIVING AT NIGHT IN THIS CAR DON'T WANT MY CHILDREN IN IT AT NIGHT. IN THE SPRING OF 2009 THE HEADLIGHTS OF MY 2007 PRIUS STARTED TO GO OUT WHILE I WAS DRIVING. IF I FLICKED THE LIGHTS OFF AND ON THEY WOULD COME BACK FOR A LITTLE WHILE. HOWEVER, THIS CAUSED ME TO GET PULLED OVER ON TWO OCCASIONS FOR A MISSING HEADLIGHT. THIS HAPPENED AT LEAST 20 TIMES THAT I WAS ABLE TO NOTICE (BECAUSE OF A LACK OF ILLUMINATION WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT) AND WAS CITED BY THE POLICE TWICE BEFORE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM BECAUSE OF DEFECTIVE LIGHT BULBS. HOWEVER, TOYOTA WOULD NOT REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE BULBS BECAUSE BOTH RARELY WENT OUT AT THE SAME TIME. HOWEVER, I FELT THIS WAS A SAFETY HAZARD AND HAD TO PAY $150 PER LIGHT, PLUS LABOR TO CHANGE THE LIGHT BULBS. *TR
SUDDEN ACCELERATION IN 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS WHEN USING CRUISE CONTROL TO INCREASE SPEED IN SMALL INCREMENTS. CANCELING CRUISE CONTROL AND RESUMING MANUAL CONTROL REGAINED CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. 2007 TOYOTA PRIUS - ONLY HAVE 46000 MILES AND PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT FLICKERS AND THEN DIES. SEEMS TO BE AN EPIDEMIC WITH PRIUS OWNERS. REPLACEMENT BY DEALER WOULD COST $465.00. I'VE TALKED TO MANY OTHER PRIUS OWNERS AND ALMOST 80% HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM AND THE REMAINING 20% HASN'T REACHED THAT PROBLEM YET. THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY IS OF POOR QUALITY THAT (1) GOES THROUGH LIGHT BULBS EVERY 40000 - 45000 MILES, (2) THE COST FOR THE REPLACEMENT IS EXTRA FOR A $10 BULB, (3) TOYOTA WILL NOT REPLACE THE HEAD LAMP UNIT.
