LEFT HID HEADLIGHT FLICKERS ON AND OFF, THEN TURNS OFF. IF I TURN THE HEADLIGHTS OFF AND THEN BACK ON AGAIN, THE LIGHT WILL STAY ON FOR A BIT, BUT THEN WILL EVENTUALLY FLICKER OUT AGAIN. ALSO, THE BULB IS VERY DIFFICULT TO ACCESS AND REPLACE, AND TOYOTA REPORTEDLY CHARGES A LOT TO REPLACE AND INSTALL THESE BULBS. *TR
IN JULY OF 2013, WHILE DRIVING, THE DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. I BOUGHT A NEW HEADLIGHT HID BULB AND HAD IT INSTALLED A FEW DAYS LATER. IN DECEMBER OF 2013 THE LIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN. I WAS ABLE TO GET IT TO WORK INTERMITTENTLY BY TOGGLING THE ON/OFF SWITCH. THE LIGHT WOULD STAY ON FOR 1-2 MINUTES BEFORE GOING OUT AGAIN. I HAD THE LIGHTBULB REMOVED AND WILL HAVE TO PURCHASE ANOTHER BULB TO BE INSTALLED. EACH BULB COSTS NEARLY $175. I HAVE BEEN QUOTED $120 BY A TOYOTA DEALER FOR LABOR. *TR
THERE HAS BEEN A CHIRPING SOUND COMING FROM MY BRAKES. IM NOT SURE WHEN IT BEGAN I JUST THOUGHT IT WAS A NORMAL OCCURRENCE RECENTLY MY DASHBOARD LIGHTS OR INDICATOR LIGHTS HAVE COME ON I TOOK MY CAR IN TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT NEEDED A NEW ACTUATOR PUMP WHICH WOULD COST AROUND 3000DOLLARS TO REPLACEAFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ONLINE I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THESE CARS THIS ACTUALLY A PUMP IS DEFECTIVE ON A LOT OF THESE CARS THIS CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED AND THE PROBLEM SHOULD BE FIXED BY THE DEALER. *TR
FOLLOWING THE PURCHASE OF MY 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS, WE VISITED A FRIEND WHO TOLD US OUR PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT WAS OUT. WHEN WE TURNED OFF THE LIGHTS AND TURNED THEM BACK ON IT CAME ON. WE HAVE HAD THE DEALER WE PURCHASED THE CAR FROM AND OUR MECHANIC TRY TO FIND THE PROBLEM BUT THE LIGHTS STILL GO OUT, SOMETIMES PASSENGER SIDE, SOMETIMES DRIVER SIDE, AND A FEW TIMES THEY HAVE BOTH GONE OUT. WHEN THE SWITCH IS SHUT OFF AND ON THEY COME BACK ON. I'M AFRAID MY LIGHTS MAY FAIL AND BE THE CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT. WE, MY HUSBAND AND I, TOOK THE CAR TO A TOYOTA DEALER TO FIX THE SAFETY RECALLS ON THE VEHICLE AND SPECIFICALLY ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE HEADLIGHTS AND DESCRIBED OUR PROBLEMS TO THEM. THEY FAILED TO CHECK OUR LIGHTS BUT GAVE US A CHECKLIST OF OTHER MAINTENANCE SUGGESTIONS. *TR
STARTING IN JUNE 2013 OUR PRIUS HEADLIGHTS WOULD INTERMITTENTLY AND UNPREDICTABLY GO OUT. IT'S DIFFICULT TO TELL AT TIMES BUT MOSTLY THIS OCCURRED ON THE LEFT HEADLIGHT. IN JANUARY 2014 THE PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING REGULARLY RATHER THAN SPORADICALLY SO I HAD BOTH HID LIGHTS REPLACED AT A COST OF $389.30. THIS SEEMED TO TEMPORARILY RESOLVE THE PROBLEM BUT IT HAS STARTED AGAIN THIS TIME WITH BOTH HEADLIGHTS TURNING OFF RANDOMLY. THIS IS A DEFINITE SAFETY HAZARD AS IT REQUIRES ME TO TURN THE LIGHT SWITCH OFF THEN BACK ON AGAIN TO GET THE LIGHTS TO TURN BACK ON. I HAVE RECENTLY HAD TO DO THIS SEVERAL TIMES ON A DRIVE OF 10' DURATION. I HAVE READ THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MANY PRIUS VEHICLES WITH THE HID LIGHTS. *TR
I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT WENT OUT. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO DRIVE FINE, WHILE ON THE FREEWAY ALL THE LIGHTS TURNED OFF. I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE SWITCH OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN. WHEN DOING SO THE PASSENGER SIDE LIGHT TURNED BACK ON. APPROXIMATELY 7-10 MINUTES LATER THE LIGHTS WENT OUT AGAIN. AGAIN I FLIPPED THE SWITCH OFF THEN ON AGAIN AND THE LIGHTS TURNED BACK ON. THIS HAPPENED ABOUT 3-4 TIMES OVER A 32 MINUTE DRIVE. WHEN I GOT HOME, I TURNED THE LIGHTS ON IN MY DRIVEWAY AND THEY WERE BOTH WORKING. AS I BACKED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY THE LEFT HEAD LIGHT WENT OUT AGAIN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE POWER TRAIN MOVED INTO NEUTRAL INDEPENDENTLY. THE CONTACT MOVED THE GEAR SHIFTER BACK INTO DRIVE. ONE WEEK LATER WHILE THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 60 MPH, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE GEAR SHIFT MECHANISM WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 57,000.
BLACK HANDLE ON HATCH MELTING. AFTER ONLY ABOUT 5 YEARS USE, THE RUBBER COVER ON THE HATCH RELEASE HANDLE (THE EXTERIOR HANDLE OF THE REAR HATCH) OF MY 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS, MELTED INTO A STICKY TARRY BLACK RUBBERY GOOEY MESS. I CAN BEST DESCRIBE IT AS BEING A VISCOUS BLACK GLOB LIKE ROOFING TAR. TO OPEN THE HATCH, YOU HAVE TO TOUCH THIS BLACK GOO EACH TIME, WHICH MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO OPERATE THE HATCH RELEASE. I WENT TO TOYOTA ARDMORE, PA TO COMPLAIN ABOUT IT BUT DID NOT GET ANY ANSWERS AND CHOOSE TO IGNORE IT. I AM ASKING FOR YOUR AGENCY TO TAKE A LOOK AT THESE INSTANCES AND ALSO TO ASK TOYOTA WHY THEY ARE NOT RECALLING THESE HANDLES. THANKS FOR YOUR HELP.
LAST WEEK I WENT OUT DRIVING WITH A FRIEND, I WAS DELIVERING MEALS ON WHEELS TO VARIOUS HOMES IN MY AREA. AT ONE HOUSE I BRAKE THE CAR TO A STOP AND SHIFTED INTO PARK AND LEFT THE MOTOR RUNNING. I THEN GOT OUT OF THE DRIVER'S SEAT, WENT AND OPENED THE BACK DOOR, TOOK OUT THE NECESSARY MEALS, CLOSED THE DOOR AND THEN WENT INTO THE HOUSE FOR THE DELIVERY. IN THE MEANTIME, MY FRIEND SAT IN THE PARKED CAR AND AFTER A VERY FEW MINUTES GOT OUT OF THE CAR TO LOOK AT SOMETHING IN THE NEIGHBORING GARDEN. OUT OF THE CORNER OF HER EYE SHE SAW THE CAR CREEPING FORWARD. SHE RUSHED TO THE CAR AND TRIED TO STOP IT BUT COULDN'T AND SO BEGAN TO SCREAM MY NAME? JUST AT THAT TIME I FINISHED MY DELIVERY CAME OUT OF THE HOUSE AND NOTICED THE CAR WAS NOT PARKED WHERE I LEFT IT AND HEARD HER SCREAMS. I RAN TO THE DRIVEWAY AND SAW THE CAR MOVING FORWARD. I RAN AFTER IT, MANAGED TO OPEN THE DOOR AND PUSHED THE POWER BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE MOTOR. THIS STOPPED THE CAR JUST IN TIME BEFORE RUNNING EITHER INTO A TREE, INTO ANOTHER CAR OR OFF THE DRIVEWAY DOWN A CLIFF. WE WERE, OBVIOUSLY VERY SHAKEN UP BY THE INCIDENT. NO ONE KNOWS WHY OR HOW THE CAR WENT OUT OF PARK INTO DRIVE. BOTH MY FRIEND AND I ARE SURE THE CAR WAS STATIONARY WHEN I LEFT IT AND WHEN SHE LEFT IT. IT SEEMS TO HAVE SUDDENLY SHIFTED. I HAVE GONE BACK TO THAT SITE TO CHECK IF THERE WAS IN INCLINE OR ANYTHING THAT WOULD HAVE CAUSED THE CAR TO MOVE. THE GROUND WAS FLAT, DRY AND NOTHING WAS THERE TO ACCOUNT FOR THIS INCIDENT. I AM WRITING THIS TO SEE IF THIS IS A PROBLEM FOR THE PRIUS. IS IT SOMETHING I MUST BE AWARE OF? IS THERE SOMETHING THAT MUST BE DONE TO PREVENT THIS FROM HAPPENING AGAIN? AND I WOULD LIKE THIS TO BE NOTED AND MADE A RECORD OF BY THE COMPANY AND THE BOARD OF TRANSPORTATION. I WOULD BE INTERESTED TO KNOW IF ANYONE ELSE HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM? *TR
ALL LIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT BLACK, FRONT, BACK EVERYTHING. I WAS GOING 50 MPH ON A MOUNTAIN ROAD AND WAS ON A STRAIGHT ROAD SECTION OUT OF THE CURVES WHEN EVERYTHING WENT BLACK. IT WAS NIGHT-TIME AT ABOUT 9:30 PM SO VERY DARK. I WENT INTO SHOCK IMMEDIATELY SLAMMED ON BRAKES, JUST GLAD NO ONE IN BACK OF ME AND CAREFULLY TRIED TO FEEL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THIS IS A ROAD WITH ALOT OF 18 WHEELERS AS IT IS A MAJOR ROUTE. ALSO VERY CURVY, AND I WAS LUCKY NOT TO GET KILLED!!!!! *TR
THE HATCHBACK RELEASE IS MELTING. IT IS ALL GOOEY WHEN YOU OPEN THE DOOR. ONE OF MY CONCERNS IS WHAT TYPE OF CHEMICAL IS GETTING ON MY HANDS? IS IT TOXIC? THE SECOND IS SAFETY. I HAVE READ OVER TIME YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OPEN THE HATCHBACK. THIS WOULD NOT BE APPROPRIATE IF YOU HAD A FLAT TIRE. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY HAVE NO RECORD OF THIS PROBLEM,BUT AFTER RESEARCHING THE INTERNET I SEE A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF COMPLAINTS. I ALSO SEE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON THIS SITE. PLEASE HAVE A RECALL FOR A DEFECTIVE PART. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT IT WOULD COST 210.00 PLUS TAX FOR A REPLACEMENT. *TR
THE PLASTIC PART ON THE REAR LATCH FOR THE TOYOTA PRIUS IS NOW LIKE GUM. AFTER INTERNET RESEARCH THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR ALL TOYOTA LATCHES AND IT COSTS ABOUT $280.00 TO FIX. I HAVE A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS AND THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECTIVE PART AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND THE CONSUMER SHOULD NOT BE CHARGED. *TR
DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AND THE HEAD LIGHTS JUST STOPPED WORKING , TURNED THEM OFF AND BACK ON AND WORKED FOR ABOUT 25 MILES AND DID IT AGAIN THIS TIME I HAD THE FOG LIGHTS ON AND IT WASN'T AS BAD BUT AGAIN TURNED THEM OFF AND THEN BACK ON WORKED TILL I GOT HOME .. *TR
THERE IS CONDENSATION IN DRIVER SIDE HEADLIGHT. TOYOTA AND ALSO THEIR EXTRA CARE PLATINUM POLICY ARE NOT WILLING TO TAKE CARE OF PROBLEM. TOYOTA DEALER SAID "IT IS A COMMON PROBLEM FOR PRIUS" , BUT THERE IS NO REPAIR SEALING, THEY SAY THE ENTIRE HOUSING NEEDS TO BE CHANGED, MOISTURE IS A DANGER TO THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM! THEY SAY, TOTAL PRICE AROUND $600. WHY SHOULD I BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR MANUFACTURING DEFECT, AND ALSO BE IN DANGER IF LIGHTS WOULD GO OFF WHEN DRIVING. I AM A 67 YEAR OLD FEMALE KEEP MY CAR IN PERFECT ORDER AND IT WOULD BE VERY DANGEROUS FOR ME IF ANY LIGHT FAILURE WAS TO HAPPEN WHEN I AM DRIVING AT NIGHT. *TR
LIGHT WILL TURN OFF, I WILL TURN THE SWITCH AND THEY COME BACK ON BUT DON'T STAY ON, I HAVE BEEN USING THE HIGH BEAMS BUT NOW THEY WILL NOT WORK. THE REGULAR BEAMS ARE STAYING ON A LITTLE LONGER BUT HAVE TO DO THE SAME THING, TURN THE SWITCH AND ON AGAIN, THE DEALER CAN'T SEEM TO FIND THE PROBLEM AT A COST OF $1100, AND NOW REPLACING THE LIGHT BULBS AT $350 IS A BIT MUCH. I DO A LOT OF DRIVING DURING DAWN HOURS AND NIGHT. WHY IS TOYOTA NOT COVER THE COST OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS AN ISSUE WITH MANY OF THE PRIUS FROM 2005 TO 2008 IT SHOULD BE A RECALL TO HAVE THE CONTROL MODULE REPLACED ON ALL HID LIGHTS D2R. *TR

SOME MONTHS AGO THE DRIVER'S DOOR LOCK STOPPED WORKING. I ENDED UP USING THE KEY TO OPEN THE DOOR FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS, SINCE TOYOTA DEALER QUOTED ME $500 TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. AFTER A COUPLE OF MONTHS, I DECIDED TO PAY AND THE ISSUE WAS FIXED. TO MY SURPRISE, THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR LOCK IS GOING BAD NOW. WHEN I TRY TO UNLOCK IT FROM WITHIN THE CAR, USING THE "UNLOCK DOORS" BUTTON, IT WILL WORK EVERY 3RD TIME OR SO. CLEARLY A BIGGER ISSUE, NOT ISOLATED TO MY INDIVIDUAL VEHICLE. I ONLY HAVE 70000 MILES AND ALWAYS SERVICED MY VEHICLE AT THE TOYOTA DEALERS. I WOULD LIKE TOYOTA TO PAY TO FIX MY LOCK AND REIMBURSE ME FOR THE ACTUATOR I ALREADY PAID TO REPLACE. *JS
REAR SWITCH THAT ALLOWS LIFT GATE TO BE OPEN, FAILS. RUBBER BREAKS DOWN AND BECOMES LIKE GLUE, MAKING IT HARD FOR INDIVIDUAL OPENING LIFT GATE TO REMOVE HAND AS NORMALLY EXPECTED, INDUCING STRAIN ON INDIVIDUAL BACK AND CREATING UNEXPECTED TWISTING MOTION CAUSING INJURY AND DAMAGING TRIM ON CAR. I PURCHASED A USED 2008 PRIUS WITH APPROX 30,000 MILES. SINCE PURCHASE FROM A DEALERSHIP, IT ONLY GIVES AT BEST 41.9MPG, 2ND.. I HAVE HAD TO JUMP START IT ON 4 OCCASIONS DUE TO A DEAD BATTERY AND THE FLUID DOESN'T GO FAR ENOUGH TO CLEAN THE WINDSHIELD. ON THE MOST RECENT OCCASION WITH 35,000 MILES..... A WEEK AGO I ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE AND IT WOULD NOT. I GOT IT JUMP STARTED AGAIN, I NOTICED A CRITICAL LIGHT CAME ON (A TRIANGLE AND ! SIGN IN RED). I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER WHO SAID I NEEDED A NEW BATTERY. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH THEY SAY DOES NOT COVER IT AND SO HAD TO PAY $395.71. I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE WHO OFFERED $300 CREDIT TOWARDS ANY SERVICE. THE SERVICE DEPT INFORMED ME THIS BATTERY HAS A 1 YEAR WARRANTY. 3.. I ALSO HAVE NOTICED A LACK OF TRACTION AFTER GOING OVER SMALL BUMPS ON THE ROAD. THIS HAPPENS ON ANY SURFACE WHEN DRIVING AT 25MPG OR FASTER... FEELS LIKE IT KIND OF GOES FASTER. *TR

AND DIDN'T HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT AGAIN. THEN 3 WEEKS AGO I GOT MY RIGHT BULB REPLACED AND IT WORKED WITH NO PROBLEMS. THEN AFTER 2 WEEKS MY BULB BLEW AGAIN. THEN LAST NIGHT I WAS COMING HOME ON MY WAY FROM MY BARN AND THE LEFT HEADLIGHT FLICKERED 1 TIME AND THEN I HAD NO HEADLIGHTS AND TOOK MY CAR DOWN INTO A FIELD BECAUSE I COULDN'T SEE AFTER I CAME TO A STOP MY LIGHTS CAME BACK ON WITH ME TURNING THE LIGHTS ON AND OFF. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE HEADLIGHT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 115,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
MY CAR IS CONSUMING OIL. TOLD TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT IT 2-3 YEARS AGO SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY KEPT SAYING JUST ADD OIL. NOW IT IS WORSE. I NEED TO ADD OIL EVERY GAS FILL UP. NOT LEAKING OR BURNING, BUT USING OIL! I HAVE ADDED 4 QUARTS SINCE LAST OIL CHANGE AND ONLY GONE OVER APPROX 2200 MILES.

THE DEALER SAYS I NEED A NEW BULB AT THE RATE OF $330.00 DOLLARS PLUS TAX AND $50.00 TO INSTALL. I ASKED IF IT WAS GUARANTEED THEY SAID NO ONCE IT IS INSTALLED THERE IS NO GUARANTEE. I WAS BORN AT NIGHT BUT NOT LAST NIGHT!! I THINK THEY HAVE ANOTHER PROBLEM AND DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHAT IT IS! AT $400.00 A LIGHT BULB-GOOD MONEY IF YOU CAN GET IT. *TR
WHEN I STARTED THE CAR, THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH DIDN'T COME ON SO I COULD SEE HOW FAST I WAS GOING OR HOW MUCH GAS I HAD. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT'S DUE TO COLD WEATHER. AFTER 15 MINUTES, THE DASH LIGHTS CAME ON. TOYOTA SUGGESTED I COULD GET THE ISSUE FIXED FOR $1500 BUT IT WOULDN'T BE EASY TO GET THE PART. COULD TAKE 30 DAYS OR MORE AND MAY NOT 100% SOLVE THE ISSUE. *TR

THE HEADLIGHTS HAVE INTERMITTENT OPERATION. FUNCTION DOES NOT SEEM TO BE BASED ON TIME, WEATHER, OR SPEED. IT POSES A SAFETY THREAT WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT NIGHT. THE BULBS HAVE BEEN REPETITIVELY CHANGED BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTS. *TR
MY CAR HAD HESITATION ISSUES SINCE SHORTLY AFTER I BOUGHT IT. IT WOULD BOG DOWN, AND ALMOST DIE IN TRAFFIC. I WOULD LOSE SPEED ON THE HWY/ROAD & NEARLY GET HIT. PREVIOUSLY, THE DEALER REPLACED THE GAS TANK BECAUSE ITS "BLADDER" WAS BAD @ 54,057 MILES ON 08/05/2011. THE FACTORY SPLIT THE COST ON THIS REPAIR (WHICH APPEARS TO OCCUR MORE THAN THEY ARE ADMITTING). THE PERFORMANCE IMPROVED FOR A LITTLE WHILE, BUT THERE HAS ALWAYS BEEN FUNNY NOISES COMING FROM MY VEHICLE AND THE CAR WOULD NOT POWER ON AT TIMES. OTHER TIMES, IT WOULD FREEZE OR POWER OFF. THE MAINTENANCE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD COME ON AND THEN TURN OFF. INFREQUENTLY, AIR WOULD COME THROUGH THE BACKSEAT VENTS LIKE IT IS SUPPOSED TO. FREQUENTLY, I WOULD SMELL UNUSUAL SMELLS AFTER STOPPING MY CAR. MY CAR ATE UP THE INSIDE OF A NEW SET OF TIRES VERY QUICKLY DESPITE BEING PROPERLY ALIGNED. THE HVAC BLOWER MOTOR WAS CUTTING ON AND OFF AT TIMES AND MAKING FUNNY NOISES. MANY TIMES WHEN IT WOULD CUT OFF, I COULD OPEN AND SLAM THE HOOD AND THE HVAC BLOWER MOTOR WOULD ENGAGE, AS IF THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL SHORT IN IT. WHEN THE HVAC BLOWER MOTOR QUIT ALTOGETHER, I TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER SAID THAT THE MOWER HAD GONE OUT. THERE WAS AN ACTUAL PROBLEM WITH THE HV ELECTRIC WATER PUMP AS WELL AS A FACTORY RECALL. INTERESTINGLY, THE DEALER DISCOVERED TAT THE ENGINE MOTOR WATER PUMP WAS ALSO LEAKING. WHAT A COINCIDENCE! NOW THAT ALL OF THESE COMPONENTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, MY CAR APPEARS TO WORK NORMAL AGAIN LIKE IT HAS NOT WORKED SINCE I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR. *TR
ALTHOUGH THE INVESTIGATION OF HID HEADLIGHT FAILURE ON 2006-09 ON THE TOYOTA PRIUS WAS CLOSED IN 2009, I WANTED TO ADD MY COMPLAINT TO YOUR FILE. I JUST PAID TO REPLACE MY DRIVERS' SIDE HEADLIGHT FOR THE THIRD TIME. IT WAS REPLACED ONCE UNDER WARRANTY, COMPED A SECOND TIME BY THE DEALER AND NOW I HAD TO PAY $1,022.24 TO REPLACE IT AFTER THE COMPANY REFUSED TO. THERE IS CLEARLY AN ISSUE WITH THIS HEADLIGHT AND THE COST OF REPLACING IT IS OBSCENE, MAKING IT A SAFETY THREAT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING MY 2008 PRIUS AT NIGHT, I HAD MY HEADLIGHTS ON. DRIVING AT APPROX 50 - 60 MPH MY HID FRONT LIGHTS WENT OUT. I WAS IN COMPLETE DARKNESS. I CAN NOT UNDERSTAND WHY THIS NOT A SAFETY RECALL BY NOW BECAUSE I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS HAPPENING WITH REGULARITY.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE HIGH INTENSITY DISCHARGE HEAD LAMPS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 87,000.
THE DRIVER HEADLAMP TURNS OFF AFTER APPROX 5 MINUTES OF USE. CAN TURN LIGHTS OFF THEN ON AGAIN TO RESTART HEADLAMP. I FIRST TOOK TO DEALER AFTER PURCHASING USED BECAUSE OF THIS PROBLEM AND THEY DID NOT MENTION WHAT I HAVE RECENTLY LEARNED IS A KNOWN DEFECT. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR THE LAST TWO YEARS. CHANGING BULB FIXES PROBLEM FOR A WHILE BUT PROBLEM RE-OCCURS. THIS ISSUE IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE, AND TOYOTA IS CHARGING EXORBITANT RATES TO REPLACE THE HEADLAMPS. SINCE THE MOVE, I HAVE RECEIVED SEVERAL MAILINGS AT ADDRESS "B" FROM TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS (SPAM MAIL, FLYERS, ETC.) AND FROM TOYOTA CORPORATION (PENDING RECALL NOTICES). I RECENTLY RECEIVED AT ADDRESS "B" A NOTICE FROM TOYOTA CORPORATION THAT THERE WAS AN UPCOMING RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE'S STEERING SHAFT AND WATER PUMP. THE ACTUAL RECALL NOTICE, WITH INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO RECEIVE REPAIRS AT TOYOTA'S EXPENSE, WAS JUST MAILED LAST WEEK TO ADDRESS "A". I STILL LIVE AT ADDRESS "B" AND NEVER CHANGED MY ADDRESS BACK TO "A". FORTUNATELY, THE CURRENT RESIDENT OF ADDRESS "A" FORWARDED THE RECALL NOTICE TO ME, AT PERSONAL EXPENSE. IT'S HARD TO IMAGINE HOW TOYOTA COULD ACCIDENTALLY REVERT TO AN EARLIER ADDRESS ONLY FOR THE MAILING NOTICE THAT COSTS TOYOTA TIME AND MONEY. I WENT TO THE TOYOTA WEBSITE TO UPDATE OR VERIFY THE ADDRESS THEY HAVE ON FILE FOR AN OWNER. BEFORE AN OWNER CAN ACCESS THAT INFORMATION, THE OWNER MUST READ THROUGH A LENGTHY "TERMS AND CONDITIONS" AGREEMENT AND PROVIDE AN E-MAIL ADDRESS SO THAT, AMONG OTHER THINGS, TOYOTA CAN SEND "OFFERS". HEADLIGHT WILL GO OFF WHEN DRIVING, SOMETIMES ONE ONLY. THEN THE OTHER. THERE IS NO SET PATTERN. HEADLIGHTS WILL COME BACK ON WHEN THE ON/OFF SWITCH IS TURNED OFF THEN BACK ON, THEN WILL GO OFF AGAIN. THREE OEM BULBS HAVE BEEN REPLACED IN ONE AND A HALF YEARS. I UNDERSTAND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT IS HAVING THIS PROBLEM. TOYOTA DOES NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. THE ELECTRIC HYBRID PUMP FAILED ON 01/08/2013 AND WAS REPLACED BY THE TOYOTA DEALER WHICH WAS UNDER RECALL, AND LESS THAN 13 THOUSAND MILES AND 4 MONTHS LATER (05/13/14), THE SAME PART FAILED AGAIN AND THIS TIME I WAS CHARGED OVER $700 TO HAVE IT REPLACED AGAIN. *TR
ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS I STARTED MY PRIUS BY USING THE ELECTRIC START BUTTON WITHOUT THE KEY. THE CAR STARTS AND RUNS BUT THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DOES NOT LIGHT UP. ONCE I ARRIVED AT MY DESTINATION THE CAR WILL NOT SHUT OFF. IT TAKE APPROX. 1 HR OF RUNNING BEFORE IT WILL TURN OFF. MY DEALERSHIP INDICATED THEY HAD NOT HEARD OF THIS ISSUE BUT AFTER A DIAGNOSTIC TEST, DISCOVERED THAT A COMPUTER CHIP COMMUNICATING WITH THE START BUTTON WAS THE ISSUE. THE PART IS NOT AVAILABLE FOR 4 TO 6 WEEKS AND THEY WILL NOT RELEASE MY CAR TO ME SINCE THEY CONSIDER IT A SAFETY ISSUE. THEY INDICATED ITS PART OF A RECALL ISSUE..NEVER HEARD OF IT! HUMMM. NO COST FOR THE FIX SINCE IT IS PART OF THE RECALL AND TOYOTA HAS PROVIDED ME WITH A RENTAL CAR. *TR
STARTED TO HAVE ISSUES WITH RIGHT HEADLIGHT ON 2008 PRIUS STARTING IN 2013 BUT WAS NOT AWARE OF THE CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT. FINALLY REPLACED THE BULB 10/14 AND SPENT $200 OUT OF POCKET TO REPLACE BULBS. I'M FRUSTRATED BECAUSE THE SAME HEADLIGHT WENT OUT JUST NINE MONTHS LATER!
MY HEADLIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY GOING OUT USUALLY THE DRIVER SIDE BUT I'M REPLACING HEADLIGHTS EVERY SIX MONTHS ABOUT. AFTER THE SECOND TIME REPLACING THE HEADLIGHTS I'VE BEEN VERY CAREFUL ONLY USING AT NIGHT. THE LIGHTS AT NOT LAST BUT A FRACTION OF THE TIME THEY SHOULD BE LAST I G AND I'VE BEEN BUYING THE BEST ON THE MARKET INSUING I GET A QUALITY PRODUCT WITH THE BEST VISIBILITY. I FEEL THERE'S SOME FAULTY WIRING OR SOMETHING CAUSING A SURGE PROMPTING THE HEADLIGHTS TO FAIL PREMATURELY. I'VE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT HEADLIGHTS LETTING ME KNOW THIS IS NOT A ONE OFF ISSUE.
