TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STARTED THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES FAILED TO WORK. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE ABS PUMP FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 127,000.
RIGHT HEADLIGHT GOES OUT AFTER A FEW MINUTES. HAVE CHANGED BALLAST AND BULB TWICE, THE PROBLEM RECURRED ALMOST IMMEDIATELY BOTH TIMES.
I WAS DRIVING 50MPH WHEN THE CAR LOST POWER.THE CAR SUDDENLY HAD NO POWER BRAKES, NO ABILITY TO EASILY STEER, NO ENGINE POWER AND MANY WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON INCLUDING AN WARNING THAT THE MAIN HYBRID BATTERY WAS NOT CHARGING. THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATION. THE CAR CAME TO A STOP. I HELD THE START BUTTON THE CAR SHUT OFF. THE CAR RESTARTED WITH NO PROBLEMS. ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE OFF. I PUT THE CAR IN DRIVE AND STARTED TO ACCELERATE. ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS COME ON JUST AS BEFORE AND THE CAR SUFFERS THE SAME ISSUES AGAIN. I WENT THROUGH THE SAME PROCESS OF TURNING THE CAR OFF AND TURNING IT BACK ON. THE CAR STARTED UP AGAIN WITH NO PROBLEMS AGAIN, ALL THE LIGHTS WERE OFF. IT FAILED ON MORE TIME ON THE TRIP HOME. I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE CAR AND PUT MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON. I NEVER DROVE OVER 25MPH ON THE TRIP BACK TO THE HOUSE. MY FAMILY TOOK THE CAR TO WILSON TOYOTA IN BELLINGHAM WA. THEY EXAMINED THE CAR AND SAID THE 12V BATTERY HAD FAILED. THEY TOLD MY FAMILY THAT THE MAIN 12V BATTERY RUNS ALL THE ELECTRICAL TO GET THE CAR STARTED AND RUNNING. WE TOLD THE DEALER THE CAR STILL HAD ELECTRICAL POWER. THEY STILL REPLACED THE 12V BATTERY. THE FOLLOWING DAY MY FAMILY WENT TO LOOK AT THE CAR AND A SERVICE PERSON AT THE DEALER, WHO SAID HE WAS NEW TO THIS LOCATION, SAID HE HAD NOTICED THAT THE 12V BATTERY HAD SEEMED TO BE REPLACED RECENTLY. THEY SAID THEY WOULD KEEP THE CAR TO KEEP LOOKING OVER ITS SYSTEMS. ON 4/16/2015 MY FAMILY CALLED TOYOTA TO DISCUSS OUR SAFETY CONCERNS WITH REGARD TO HOW THE CAR FAILED. WE EXPLAINED WE ALSO HAVE A 2007 PRIUS THAT HAD THE MAIN HYBRID BATTERY FAIL AND THAT ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS THAT CAME ON WERE SIMILAR IN BOTH CARS. THE DEALER HAS SAID THERE ARE NO CODES THAT SAID THE MAIN HYBRID BATTERY IS FAILING. I AM WORRIED THAT I OR MY FAMILY COULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED IF THE CAR FAILED IN THIS MANNER AGAIN WHILE ON A BUSY HIGHWAY OR INTERSECTION. *TR
I BOUGHT A USED TOYOTA PRIUS 2008 .RIGHT SIDE HEADLIGHT KEEPS TURNING OFF AT NIGHT. *TR
I WAS TRAVELING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND ALL MY LIGHTS WENT OUT. PITCH BLACK. LUCKILY, THERE WERE VERY FEW CARS ON THE ROAD. I WAS ABLE TO PULL TO THE SIDE AND PUT MY FLASHERS ON AND USE THEIR INTERMITTENT FLASHING TO SLOWLY FIND MY WAY HOME (ABOUT 8 MORE MILES). THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED FATALITIES - MY OWN AND OTHERS WHO MAY HAVE CRASHED INTO ME. THIS WAS A TERRIBLE SITUATION AND FROM WHAT I HAVE JUST RESEARCHED, IT HAPPENS WITH THE PRIUS. NOW I HAVE THE INCONVENIENCE (AND EXPENSE?) OD FIGURING OUT HOW TO GET THIS FIXED SO IT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN!!!! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY, THE BRAKE ACTUATOR DEVELOPED A LEAK THAT CAUSED IT TO MALFUNCTION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS ALSO FAILED AND HE COULD NOT STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY INTO THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THERE WAS NO CRASH DUE TO THE FAILURE. BELL TOYOTA IN PEORIA, ARIZONA WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 147,000.
THE LEFT HEADLIGHT KEEPS TURNING ITSELF OFF WHEN DRIVING OR NOT. WHEN BUMPED NEXT TO THE HEADLIGHT COVER IT COMES BACK ON. THE BULB AND CONNECTOR ARE FINE. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD, THAT IF THE RIGHT ONE STARTS DOING THE SAME THIN AT NIGHT, IT WOULD PUT ME INTO A DANGEROUS AND LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. I THINK TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE HEADLIGHT WILL DIM THEN GO OUT OUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS OF OPERATION. IF THE LIGHTS ARE TURNED OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN THE HEADLIGHT WILL WORK FOR A FEW MORE SECONDS THEN DIM AND GO OUT. THE BULB HAS BEEN CHANGED BUT THAT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 12/21/2015 *JS
ENGINE COMPRESSION CATASTROPHICALLY FAILS APPROXIMATELY EVERY 2000 MILES. *TR
I WAS IN AN AUTOMOBILE ACCIDENT IN FEB OF 2015 I HOT ANOTHER VEHICLE GOING APPROXIMATELY 15MPH NO AIR BAGS WERE DEPLOYED AND THE POLICE OFFICER AND BODY SHOP BOTH WERE SURPRISED NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. I'M CURIOUS IF THIS WAS DUE TO A FAULT YOU AIRBAG AND LUCKLY I WASN'T SERIOUSLY INJURED. MY DASH COMPUTER SENSOR WENT OUT IN 2015, CAUSING ME TO NOT BE ABLE TO READ AN ODOMETER, SPEEDOMETER, ETC. I HAD THIS PART REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE DUE TO THE SAFETY HAZARD IT POTENTIALLY COULD CAUSE I'D LIKE TO SEE A FORMAL RECALL FOR THIS PART. TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGED THE SAFETY ERROR AND DID ISSUE A EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH I WAS NOT COVERED BY. I REPLACED MY INVERTER A THIRD TIME IN 2017 DIE TO OVER HEATING. AFTER THE RECALL WAS PERFORMED I DID NOTICED DECEASED POWER WHICH GREATLY AFFECTED THE PERFORMANCE OF MY VEHICLE MAKING IT MORE SLUGGISH. DUE TO THE PERFORMANCE LOSS I'VE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE THE CAR FOR NORMAL TRIPS THAT WERE TAKEN PREVIOUSLY DUE TO SAFETY CONCERNS.
WHILE DRIVING AT NIGHT APPROX. 50 MILES PER HOUR PRIUS LOST POWER AND APPEARED TO BE IN NEUTRAL. DID NOT LOSE HEADLIGHTS. I PULLED OVER AND SHUT DOWN AND RESTARTED WITHOUT INCIDENT BUY AM FEARFUL OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN IN TRAFFIC. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 148,000. 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. CONSUMER REQUESTING ALL RECALLS ASSOCIATED WITH VEHICLE. *TA THE CONSUMER REFERENCED RECALL # 09V388000. HE ALSO MENTIONED INFORMATION REGARDING A STEERING DEFECT. *JB
ABOUT TWO YEARS AGO, ONE OF MY HEADLIGHTS BEGAN TO CUT OUT WITHOUT WARNING. NOW, STARTING 2 MONTHS AGO, BOTH OF MY HEADLIGHTS STOP WORKING AT THE SAME TIME WITHOUT WARNING, I HAVE HAD 2 NEAR-MISSES BECAUSE OF THIS ISSUE, TOYOTA, MY CAR MANUFACTURER, REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING TO FIX THIS HIGHLY DANGEROUS ISSUE, EVEN THOUGH OVER 200,000 PRIUS OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THE PROBLEM. WHO KNOWS HOW MANY OTHER OWNERS OUT THERE WHO HAVE NOT REPORTED ANYTHING?!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE STATIONARY AND DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, ALL OF THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INDICATORS FAILED TO ILLUMINATE. SOUTH DADE TOYOTA IN HOMESTEAD, FLORIDA WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. THE CONTACT WAS REFERRED TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
INITIALLY THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT BEGAN TO FLICKER. THEN IT WENT OUT. WHEN I TURNED THE LIGHTS OFF AND ON AGAIN IT CAME BACK ON. SINCE THEN COMPLETELY RANDOMLY ONE LIGHT OR THE OTHER, BUT MORE COMMONLY THE PASSNEGER SIDE WILL FLICKER AND DIM, AND THEN LATER GO OUT. TURNING THE LIGHTS OFF AND BACK ON WILL USUALLY RESTORE THE LIGHT BUT MORE THAN HALF THE TIME ONLY TO A DIMMED OR FLICKERING CONDITION. SOMETIMES BOTH LIGHTS JUST GO OUT RANDOMLY AND WITHOUT WARNING.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 25 MPH, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER PANEL FAILED TO DISPLAY READING LEVELS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THREE INDEPENDENT MECHANICS. THE MECHANICS WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000.
I WAS DRIVING MY 2008 PRIUS IN RAINY WEATHER (NORMAL FOR SEATTLE) NORTHBOUND ON INTERSTATE 5 IN RELATIVELY HEAVY TRAFFIC. TRAFFIC WAS SLOWING DOWN, SO I BRAKE AND DECREASED MY SPEED FURTHER. AS I GOT CLOSER TO THE CAR AHEAD OF ME, I PUSHED MORE FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE, AND NOTHING HAPPENED. THE ABS DID NOT ENGAGE. THE CAR JUST KEPT MOVING ALONG AND I RAN INTO THE CAR AHEAD OF ME. LUCKILY MY SPEED WAS ONLY 5-7 MPH. THE OTHER CAR, AN SUV, WAS NOT DAMAGED. MY FRONT HOOD WAS QUITE CRUNCHED. NO ONE WAS HURT. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE BRAKES SIMPLY DID NOT ENGAGE AT THE LAST MOMENT. I HAVE READ ABOUT THE RECALLS OF 2010 PRIUS' BECAUSE OF ABS FAILURES, SO I WANTED TO MAKE SURE THAT YOU WERE AWARE OF AT LEAST ONE 2008 PRIUS THAT SEEMS TO HAVE EXPERIENCED A SIMILAR FAILURE. 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS PULLED INTO THE PATH OF A PICK UP TRUCK AND WAS STRUCK IN THE DRIVER'S DOOR. SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. *TR UPDATED 9/19/2017*CN
THE CAR MOVES FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL MODE. I PUT THE CAR IN "D" AND IT SUDDENLY MOVED BACK TO "N". KEEP THE LEVER HELD ON "D" AND YOU CAN DRIVE, OTHERWISE IT SWITCHES BACK TO "N". HAPPENED 3 TO 4 TIMES TODAY. VERY SCARED IF THIS HAPPENS WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY OR GETTING STARTED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT AS THE CAR BEHIND MAY NOT HAVE ENOUGH SPACE OR INDICATION OF THE VEHICLE SLOWING DOWN BECAUSE OF LOSS OF ACCELERATOR. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT REMAINED ILLUMINATED. AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE COOLANT CONTROL VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
OUR CAR WAS EXHIBITING A SERIOUS DEFECT THAT TOYOTA HAS ALREADY FOUND AND DOCUMENTED ON THEIR SITE, SAYING THAT THEY ARE DOING AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE GROSSLY MISMANAGED THIS EXTENDED WARRANTY BY NOT PROVIDING THE PART AT ALL OR PERHAPS AT SOME FAR FUTURE TIME (WE STILL DON'T KNOW WHEN WE WILL GET OUR CAR BACK, PERHAPS MONTHS OR NEVER). WHEN WORD GETS OUT THAT CUSTOMERS WHO BRING THEIR CAR IN TO GET FIXED HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THEY GET THEIR CAR BACK, THEY WILL INSTEAD KEEP DRIVING THE CAR WITH THE HIGHLY DANGEROUS DEFECT. THE DEFECT IS THE COMBINATION METER, WHICH CONTROLS THE DASHBOARD INDICATORS. WHEN IT GOES DOWN, NONE OF THE DASHBOARD INDICATORS WORK AND THE DRIVER DOES NOT KNOW WHAT GEAR HE OR SHE IS IN, HOW MUCH GASOLINE IS IN THE TANK, WHAT SPEED THE CAR IS GOING, ETC. THESE ARE THE CARS THAT TOYOTA IS LEAVING ON THE ROAD BECAUSE THEY ARE YET AGAIN INCOMPETENTLY MANAGING A SAFETY DEFECT. THIS COULD LEAD TO SERIOUS INJURIES AND DEATHS. I SPOKE TO [XXX] AT TOYOTA TODAY (JANUARY 5, 2015), AND, BASED ON THE CONVERSATION, TOYOTA COULD CARE LESS WHETHER THIS IS HANDLED RIGHT OR NOT. SHE DID NOT SEEM THE LEAST BIT ALARMED, AND INDICATED THAT THEIR COURSE OF ACTION WAS TO DO NOTHING. THE DEALER ORDERED THE PART LAST MONDAY, BUT, ACCORDING TO THE DEALER, TOYOTA'S TRACKING OF THIS PART IS COMPLETELY DISORGANIZED. TOYOTA HAS NO IDEA WHEN IT WENT OUT AND IS IGNORING THE TRACKING INFORMATION PROVIDED BY THE SHIPPER (APPARENTLY UPS) SO THE CUSTOMERS HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THEY GET THEIR CARS BACK. CUSTOMERS ARE NOT GIVEN LOANER CARS. IF THEY TURN THEIR CARS IN TO BE FIXED, THEY CANNOT GO TO WORK. THEREFORE, THEY WILL DRIVE WITH THE DANGEROUS DEFECT. ALSO, CAR OWNERS ARE NOT BEING NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THEY ONLY FIND OUT THE HARD WAY, PERHAPS RIGHT BEFORE AN ACCIDENT. THE BACK LATCH OF MY 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS BEGAN MELTING LAST SUMMER, LEAVING A STICKY BLACK RESIDUE ON MY HAND WHEN I TOUCHED IT. IT NOW TAKES BOTH HANDS AND A LOT OF PRESSURE/STRENGTH TO EVEN OPEN IT. I SEE THAT OTHER OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM, YET TOYOTA DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL AND IS INSTEAD, DEMANDING $315 TO REPLACE IT. SINCE THE INABILITY TO QUICKLY ACCESS THE TRUNK IN AM EMERGENCY PRESENTS A SAFETY CONCERN, I FEEL THAT I HAVE NO ALTERNATIVE BUT TO REPLACE IT. IT WILL BE THE LAST TOYOTA THAT I OWN. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY PRIUS WITH 130,000 MILES LAST NIGHT IN A RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD FEATURING A COUNTERCLOCKWISE,(LEFT-HAND) MODERATE CURVE. THE "CIRCLE" ENDED AT AN INTERSECTION WHERE I WAS TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. I TURNED MY STEERING TO THE RIGHT TO CANCEL THE COUNTERCLOCKWISE TRAJECTORY, BUT MY FRONT WHEELS SEEMED TO BE "LOCKED" IN THE LEFT TURNING MOTION. I SLAMMED THE BRAKES, BUT COULD NOT STOP THE CAR FROM CLIMBING THE CURB AND SIDESWIPING A TREE, CAUSING MY DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT WHEEL TO BE SHOVED BACKWARD TOWARDS THE DRIVER DOOR IN THE WHEEL FRAME. MY CAR IS NOW AT A BODY SHOP WITH AN AGREED $5600.00 IN DAMAGE, MOSTLY TO THE STEERING ASSEMBLY, SUSPENSION, AND WHEEL/AXLE. THE WHEEL PANEL ABOVE THE WHEEL WILL BE REPLACED, AND SCRATCHES ON THE FRONT BUMPER AND DRIVER DOOR WILL BE REPAIRED. WORK IS SCHEDULED TO BE COMPLETED BY JANUARY 5. I BELIEVE THAT THE CONDITION WHICH CAUSED THE STEERING TO LOCK IN A LEFT-TURN CONDITION WITHOUT WARNING ON A DRY ROAD IS A SERIOUS MANUFACTURING DEFECT FOR WHICH I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED .FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC AND NO INJURIES, AND EVEN THE TREE SEEMS UNSCATHED. THIS COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC ON AN INTERSTATE OR IN CONGESTED HIGH SPEED TRAFFIC. I HAVE BEEN PLEASED WITH MY PRIUS' PERFORMANCE TO THIS POINT, BUT BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA HAS RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS MATTER AS EVIDENCED BY STEERING RELATED RECALLS ON SIMILAR VINTAGE PRIUS MODELS. I REQUEST FULL REIMBURSEMENT FOR MY REPAIR, MINDFUL THAT THESE EXPENSES COULD BE A LOT HIGHER HAD THIS FAILURE OCCURRED UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES. I HAD PREVIOUSLY SUBMITTED THIS INFORMATION TO A TOYOTA INQUIRY WEBSITE AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED AN ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OR RESPONSE FORM TOYOTA. *TR
THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEADLAMP HAS BEEN GOING OFF INTERMITTENTLY FOR MANY YEARS. NOW, BOTH LIGHTS GO OUT AND I AM DRIVING WITH THE FOG LIGHTS ONLY? VERY DANGEROUS! IF TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL AND FIX! *TR
THE HATCHBACK LIFT HAS DETERIORATED AND NO LONGER WORKS. THE TOYOTA SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE QUOTED ME $570 TO REPLACE IT, STATING IT COULD POSE AN ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SAFETY ISSUE. NO DAMAGE HAS OCCURRED AND SINCE IT IS KEYLESS ... HOW DOES THIS HAPPEN? THE CLEAR COAT HAS DEGRADED ONLY ON THE PIECE OF METAL THAT ENCLOSES THE HATCHBACK'S LIFT MECHANISM AND STARTED FLAKING ABOUT THE SAME TIME THAT I NOTICED IT WAS GETTING HARDER AND HARDER TO LIFT THE HATCHBACK. COULD THESE TWO FAILURES BE RELATED? WHEN THESE PROBLEMS STARTED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO IT DIDN'T OCCUR TO ME THAT THERE MIGHT BE A CONNECTION. THE SERVICE REP IGNORED MY QUESTION ABOUT A POSSIBLE RELATIONSHIP. *TR
I CALLED TOYOTA ABOUT THE STALLING SOFTWARE RECALL AND MY CAR IS NOT ON THE LIST AND NEEDS TO BE ADDED TO IT. MY CAR DOES THE SAME THING AS THE OTHERS REPORTED. WAS DRIVING IN THE DARK WITH MY BRIGHTS ON AND BOTH HEADLIGHTS SUDDENLY WENT OFF. THE SPIRAL CABLE THAT CONTROLS THE ELECTRICAL SUPPLY TO THE STEERING WHEEL (RADIO, HEATING,AIR CONDITIONING, ETC. FAILED). IN SOME VEHICLES THE AIR BAG POWER SUPPLY IS ROUTED THROUGH THIS CABLE AND THE AIR BAG POWER SUPPLY FAILS WHEN THE SPIRAL CABLE FAILS. IN MY PARTICULAR CASE THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT DID NOT COME ON BUT MOST OF THE OTHER SWITCHES CEASED WORKING).

ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS ONE OR BOTH HEADLAMPS WILL SHUT OFF. I AM ABLE TO RESTORE THE LIGHTS BY SWITCHING THE HEADLAMPS OFF AND THEN ON AGAIN. GOT OUT OF CAR, LOCKED CAR, UNLOCKED CAR (TOYOTA TECHNICIAN INSTRUCTIONS), THEN CAR RESTARTED. GOT CAR OFF THE ROAD, CONTACTED STATE FARM FOR TOW TO AUTONATION TOYOTA SOUTH AUSTIN. TOYOTA TECHNICIAN REMOVED A THIRD PARTY TELEMATIC DEVICE (IN-DRIVE) FROM OBD PORT. VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC SCAN SHOWED TWO COMMUNICATION ERRORS U0100 AND U0111. THIRD PARTY TELEMATIC DEVICE WAS NOT REINSTALLED. VEHICLE WAS TEST DRIVEN, HELD OVERNIGHT, TEST DRIVEN AGAIN AND THE ERRORS OR SHUTDOWN DID NOT REPEAT. TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER SAID THEY HAVE SEEN THIRD PARTY DEVICES CONNECTED TO ODB PORT CAUSE ERRORS AND HAVE TO BE REMOVED OR REPLACED. WE HAVE THREE HYBRID VEHICLES IN OUR HOUSEHOLD EACH WITH A THIRD PARTY TELEMATIC DEVICE FROM IN-DRIVE. ALL THREE HAVE BEEN REMOVED AND RETURNED TO IN-DRIVE WITH SUPPLIED PACKAGING AND RETURN INSTRUCTIONS. *TR

DRIVING UP PROVO CANYON AT 4:30AM AND SUDDENLY BOTH HEADLIGHTS COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. I HAD TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP BECAUSE I HAD ZERO VISIBILITY. I NOW HAVE TO TOGGLE THE HEADLIGHT SWITCH OFF AND ON EVERY COUPLE OF MINUTES IN ORDER FOR THE HEADLIGHTS TO REMAIN ON. THERE APPEARS TO BE A SHORT, BUT FROM WHAT I HAVE READ ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, IT IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE REPAIR COSTS CAN BE VERY STEEP--$800-$1800 DOLLARS TO HAVE BOTH HEADLIGHTS REPLACED AND THAT DOES NOT GUARANTEE THAT THE PROBLEM WILL BE FIXED. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THE 2008 PRIUS MODEL AND FIX THE OBVIOUS SAFETY RELATED ISSUE WITH THIS MODEL! THE RUBBER COVER ON THE REAR HATCH DOOR LATCH / SWITCH HAS DEGRADED AND MELTED. IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH AND TO ACCESS MY SPARE TIRE, MAKING THIS A SAFETY HAZARD. THERE IS NO MANUAL WAY TO RELEASE THE HATCH. ON MY 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS REAR HATCH LIFTGATE, THE HANDLE HAS MELTED MAKING IT VERY DIFFICULT TO OPEN THE REAR HATCH. THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE THERE IS THEN NO SAFE WAY TO REMOVE ITEMS FROM THE REAR. SINCE THE SPARE TIRE IS STORED IN THE HATCH, TOYOTA SHOULD REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. DRIVING 2008 TOYOTA PRIUS WITH 105K MILES ON THE FREEWAY. SUDDENLY, I SAW THE ABS,VCS AND BRAKE LIGHTS SHOWS UP ON THE DASHBOARD ALONG WITH A CONTINUOUS SCREECHING NOISE. SPOKE TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE, AND THE ASSOCIATE TOLD THAT THIS IS A WEAR AND TEAR ISSUE. HOW COME THE BRAKE ACTUATOR BECOME FAULTY ON A 6 YEAR OLD CAR, WHICH WAS ADVERTISED A SAFE CAR. I WAS DRIVING TO WORK IN THE FREEWAY AND SUDDENLY I HEARD A LOUD CONTINUOUS BEEP NOISE WITH ALL THE LIGHTS IN THE DASH WAS LIT.
