TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE BRAKE AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE BECAME DIFFICULT TO STOP WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ASSEMBLY WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 39,001 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
THIS IS A RECURRING PROBLEM. ANYTIME I AM SLOWING DOWN FOR A RED LIGHT AND THERE IS A POTHOLE OR OTHER ROUGH SURFACE CONDITION, THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD AND JUMPS, SO TO SPEAK. GIVEN THE CONDITION OF THE ROADS IN CHICAGO, THIS IS A PRETTY REGULAR PROBLEM. I USUALLY HAVE TO PRESS THE BRAKE MUCH HARDER THAN NORMAL WHILE THIS IS OCCURRING BECAUSE OF CROSSWALKS AND LIGHTS. I THINK THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE; HOWEVER, WHEN ASKING THE DEALER TO LOOK INTO THIS, THEY INDICATED THAT IT WAS THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKING SYSTEM KICKING IN, AND THAT IT WAS A PERFECTLY COMMON THING TO EXPERIENCE. *TR
I WAS IN THE RIGHT LANE TRAVELING WEST BOUND ON TENNESSEE STREET IN TALLAHASSEE, FL, AND AS I WAS GOING THROUGH THE LIGHT AT THE CORNER OF TENNESSEE AND MONROE STREET, THE TRAFFIC STOPPED JUST PAST THE INTERSECTION. AS I WAS ENTERING THE INTERSECTION, I APPLIED MY BRAKES BUT THEY WENT STRAIGHT TO THE FLOOR AND A WARNING LIGHT STARTED BLINKING. I HAD ONE OF TWO CHOICES; HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME OR HIT THE CURB FOR THE SIDEWALK CLOSE TO WHERE A MAN WAS STANDING WITH HIS BICYCLE. LUCKILY I HAD JUST ENOUGH ROOM TO GO BETWEEN THE BACK-END OF THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND THE MAN ON THE SIDEWALK. FORTUNATELY NO ONE WAS INJURED IN MY ACCIDENT, I JUST SCARED THE MAN VERY BADLY, BUT THE REPAIRS TO MY CAR ARE PROBABLY GOING TO BE MORE THAN $4,000. *TR
MY COMMUTE IS 62 MILES, ONE WAY. TONIGHT I REALIZED MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WERE NOT WORKING. MY HIGH BEAMS WORK. I DROVE THE 62 MILES WITH MY HIGH BEAMS ON. THE FUSES WERE FINE. IT IS ODD THAT BOTH LOW BEAM LIGHTS WERE OUT AT THE SAME TIME BUT THE HIGH BEAMS WERE FINE. I SEARCHED ONLINE SOME AND THERE WERE NUMEROUS SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH THE PRIUS LOW BEAM LIGHTS. *TR
WHILE MAKING A U TURN THE VEHICLE LOST POWER AND THE CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING ILLUMINATED. THE CAR DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. THE DEALER CLAIMED THAT THERE WAS OIL IN THE THROTTLE BODY CAUSED BY OVERFILLING AND THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH OIL OVERFILLS ON PRIUS VEHICLES. THE LAST OIL CHANGE HAD BEEN 8,000 MILES AND MORE THAN 2 MONTHS PREVIOUS. THE PLACE THAT PERFORMED THE OIL CHANGE AGREED TO LOOK AT CAR AND CLEAN THE THROTTLE BODY. THEY ALSO CHECKED THE OIL AND MADE SURE IT WAS CORRECT LEVEL. THREE WEEKS LATER THE SAME THING OCCURRED. THIS TIME THE CAR LOST POWER AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CAR DIED ON A FREEWAY TRANSITION OVER PASS AND WE WERE STRANDED ON THE FREEWAY IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO ANOTHER TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY CLAIMED IT WAS THE SAME THING. THE OIL CHANGE PLACE SAYS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY IS THIS THE PROBLEM SINCE THEY LOOKED AT IT VERY CLOSELY THE LAST TIME. I REQUESTED TOYOTA TO SEND OUT A FIELD REPRESENTATIVE TO CONFIRM THAT THIS WAS THE CAUSE. THEY REFUSED. COMPUTER CODES P3190 AND P0A0F HV. *TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS AT DEALERSHIP FOR 25000 MILE SERVICE. ON 11/07/2012 AT 1700 THE DEALERSHIP CALLED AND REPORTED THAT THE CAR IS "INFESTED WITH RODENTS." STATED THAT HEADLINER IS SATURATED WITH URINE/ FECES, AIR AND CABIN AIR FILTERS DESTROYED, WIRES CHEWED, RODENTS FOUND TO BE LIVING IN DASHBOARD, IN DOOR INTERIORS, AND OTHER AREAS. REPORTED THAT THIS WAS "THE WORST CASE WE'VE SEEN." CAR IS OWNED BY TWO PROFESSIONALS- NO CHILDREN WHO WOULD HAVE DROPPED FOOD AND NO FOOD EVER EATEN IN VEHICLE. PURCHASED NEW FROM THIS SAME DEALERSHIP 01/02/2011. DEALERSHIP NOW REPORTS THAT THE CAR IS A HEALTH/ SAFETY HAZARD AND COULD COST "THOUSANDS" TO REPAIR. OUR INTERNET RESEARCH REVEALED THAT RODENT INFESTATION IS COMMON IN THE TOYOTA PRIUS, REPORTEDLY BECAUSE RODENTS ARE ABLE TO GAIN EASY ACCESS THROUGH THE CAR'S VENTILATION SYSTEM. OWNERS REPORTED CONTACTING TOYOTA, WHO DENIED LIABILITY AND DENIED REQUEST FOR ASSISTANCE. *TR
WHILE CAREFULLY PARKING MY PRIUS 2010 AT A HOSPITAL IT ACCELERATED SUDDENLY AND CRASHED OVER THE CEMENT CURB. I SAY CAREFULLY BECAUSE MY PRIUS HAD DONE THIS BEFORE BUT NOT ENOUGH DAMAGE WAS DONE TO FILE WITH INSURANCE. THERE FOLLOWED ANOTHER ACCIDENT AND ANOTHER ACCIDENT. THEN THIS EVENING WHILE DRIVING INTO MY CARPORT MY PRIUS ACCELERATED AGAIN. IT THREW MY DOG THAT WAS IN THE FRONT SEAT TO THE FLOOR BUT I WAS ABLE TO AVOID CAR DAMAGE AS I WAS GOING TO STOP. I WAS BARELY MOVING, THAT IS I STILL HAD MY FOOT ON THE ACCELERATOR,MAYBE I COULD SAY COASTING, WHEN THIS ACCELERATION SUDDENLY OCCURRED. THIS WAS THE SAME TYPE ACCELERATION THAT CAUSED ALL THE PRIOR ACCIDENTS. I HAVE REPORTED THIS TO TOYOTA... AND NOW YOU. HOPEFULLY YOU WILL HELP ME. MY PRIUS IS IN THE CARPORT. IT HAS NOT BEEN MOVED. HOWEVER, IT IS MY ONLY TRANSPORTATION. MY PRIUS' LATEST HAPPENING, BEFORE THE ONE JUST STATED, THE HYBRID SYSTEM QUIT WORKING DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC ON THE INTERSTATE NEAR A BUSY INTERSECTION. THIS WAS REPAIRED BEFORE TOYOTA SENT SOME ONE TO INVESTIGATE THE PRIOR ACCIDENTS. IF MORE INFORMATION IS NEEDED JUST LET ME KNOW. THIS PRIUS ALSO HAD A BATTERY REPLACED SHORTLY AFTER IT WAS PURCHASED AS A NEW VEHICLE. THIS PRIUS HAS WHEEL RIM SCRATCHES. *TR
WHEN PARKING, MY 2010 PRIUS ACCELERATED FORWARD CAUSING IT TO GO OVER A CURB FORM DAMAGING THE FRONT BUMPER. UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION HAS CAUSED FOUR ACCIDENTS DAMAGING MY CAR. I HAVE RECORDS OF THESE REPAIRS. THE HYBRID SYSTEM WENT OUT 8/30/2013 AND IN MARCH,2014 THE BACK BRAKES FELL OFF: NO BOLTS, PADS, CALIBER, FLUID WERE IN PLACE WHEN IT WAS TOWED TO ROBBINS TOYOTA IN TEXARKANA, TX. THE FRONT RIGHT BOOSTER WAS BLOWN OUT WHILE IN THIS SHOP. MY VEHICLE THERE OVER A MONTH FOR VARIOUS REASONS. *TT

MY HEADLIGHT WENT OUT WHILE DRIVING. THE DEALER INDICATED THE REPLACEMENT COST WOULD BE BETWEEN $300 AND $400 FOR A SINGLE LIGHT BULB. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT I ONLY USE THE LIGHTS WHEN NEEDED TO PROLONG THE LIFE OF THAT TYPE OF BULB. *TR
THERE IS A CHRONIC PROBLEM WITH THE HEADLIGHTS ON THIS CAR. THEY CONTINUALLY BURN OUT, OR, GO OUT AND THAN COME BACK ON WHEN HEADLIGHT IS 'TAPPED' LIGHTLY. DEALER AND INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP(S) HAVE REPLACED NUMEROUS TIMES AND PROBLEM RECURS. *TR
THIS HAS HAPPENED ATLEAST 4 TIMES IN THE LAST YEAR, WHERE THE CAR HAS LOST COMPLETE BRAKING POWER AND AT THE TIME THIS HAPPENS, ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD LIGHT UP FOR A FEW SECONDS AND ON SUBSEQUENT PUMPING OF THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE BRAKE POWER RETURNS TO NORMAL. ON ONE OCCASION I ALMOST ENDED UP IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION, THANKFULLY THERE WAS NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC AND WAS ABLE TO RECOVER WITHOUT GETTING CRASHED INTO. I SEE A LOT OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS HERE AND ON TOYOTA'S OWN COMMUNITY PORTAL DESCRIBING THE EXACT SAME BEHAVIOR. IN ALL CASES, THE DEALERSHIP HAS ENDED UP REPLACING THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. IN MY CASE THOUGH, THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT MY CAR WAS ON THE RECALL LIST FOR THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY, BUT WHEN THEY RAN SOME DIAGNOSTICS TESTS ADVISED BY TOYOTA WHICH DID NOT REPORT ANY ISSUES AND THEREFORE REFUSED TO CHANGE THE BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. I ALSO CONTACTED TOYOTA (CASE# [XXX]) ONLY TO BE TOLD A WISHY WASHY ANSWER. I WAS TOLD THAT TOYOTA CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT SINCE IT HAS GIVEN GUIDELINES TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IF THE DEALERSHIP SAYS "NO" THEN SO DOES "TOYOTA". NOT TO MENTION HAVING SPENT HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH TOYOTA ONLY TO BE TOSSED SEVERAL TIMES BETWEEN DIFFERENT SUPPORTS REPS AND THE DEALERSHIP. ADDITIONALLY, I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP TO KEEP DRIVING THE CAR AND SEE IF IT WAS TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN. ONCE IT GETS TO A POINT WHERE I CAN FIND A PATTERN AND REPRODUCE THE ERROR WITH THE TOYOTA REP THAT'S THEN THEY WILL LOOK INTO THE ISSUE. FOR SOME REASON THEY FAIL TO UNDERSTAND THAT I AM NOT COMPLAINING ABOUT MY WIPER BLADES NOT WORKING BUT THE BRAKES, WHICH COULD PUT THE DIVER IN A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION. MULTIPLIE INCIDENTS: WE WILL BE DRIVING THE VEHICLE AND HIT A BUMP / POT HOLE AND BE BRAKING, BUT THE CAR WILL ACCELERATE. *TR
PANEL LIGHT DIMMER INOPERABLE WHEN PARKING/HEAD LIGHTS ARE TURNED ON (I.E., THERE IS NO DISPLAY ON INSTRUMENT PANEL FOR CURRENT SPEED, FUEL VOLUME, FUEL CONSUMPTION, ETC. WHEN DRIVING WITH HEAD LIGHTS ON). THIS SIMILARLY AFFECTS THE AUDIO/HVAC DISPLAY. *TR
ON TUESDAY OCTOBER 02, 2012 AT APPROXIMATELY 0510 THE VEHICLE BRAKES WENT OUT AND THE BRAKE, ABS, AND STABILIZATION LIGHTS CAME ON ALONG WITH ALARM. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR - TOLD IT WAS THE MASTER CYLINDER. VEHICLE PICKED UP ON MORNING OF OCTOBER 4, 2012 FROM DEALERSHIP DROVE APPROXIMATELY 20 MILES AND THE EXACT SAME THING OCCURRED. BRAKES, ABS, STABILIZATION ALARMS CAME ON. TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WAS CALLED AND SAID THAT THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE FINE - SYSTEM HAD CLEARED WITH PART REPLACEMENT - "MAYBE IT WAS A BAD PART OR THERE COULD BE AIR IN THE LINES." VEHICLE IS PRESENTLY AT THE DEALERSHIP AWAITING INSPECTION. FORTUNATELY, NO ACCIDENTS OR INJURIES OCCURRED ON THESE DATES. HOWEVER BECAUSE OF THE LOSS OF BRAKES AND NEAR ACCIDENTS THIS VEHICLE IS NOW A THREAT TO MY SAFETY. SO FAR I HAVE BEEN LUCKY - I DO NOT WANT TO TAKE A CHANCE WITH THE THIRD BEING THE TIME THAT I AM IN A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. *TR
VEHICLE ACTIVATES ABS WHILE STOPPING AND BRAKE DISENGAGES, CAUSING VEHICLE TO NOT STOP WHEN BRAKES ARE APPLIED UNLESS BRAKES ARE REAPPLIED, POTENTIALLY LEADING TO ACCIDENTS DUE TO BRAKING FAILURE. DEALERSHIP IS NOT ADDRESSING THE ISSUE IN A TIMELY MANNER. DELAYING THIS RECALL MONTHS MIGHT LEAD TO ACCIDENTS AFFECTING ALL PASSENGERS, INCLUDING CHILDREN. CONTINUED DELAY OF THIS MATTER COULD LEAD TO LEGAL ACTION DUE TO AN INABILITY ON BEHALF OF THE TOYOTA COMPANY AND DEALERSHIPS TO PROMPTLY FIX A SEVERE AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR
THE LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS WOULD NOT PROJECT FAR ENOUGH DOWN THE ROAD. REPLACED BULB MULTIPLE TIMES. *TR
TRAVELING ON PARKWAY WHEN WE WERE APPROACHING A VEHICLE GOING SOUTH DOWN AT APPROXIMATELY 55 WE WERE TRAVELING 72 WITH CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED, I TAPPED THE BRAKES TO TRY AND SLOW AND NOTHING HAPPENED I THEN HELD THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN FOR MORE THAN 15 SECONDS WITH NO SUCCESS, TRIED TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE BY PULLING BACK ON THE HANDLE ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND STILL IT WOULD NOT DISENGAGE, WE STRUCK THE TRUCK AT 72 MPH ONLY BECAUSE WE HAD NO WHERE ELSE TO GO AND THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT DISENGAGE CRUISE. THE CRUISE CONTROL LIGHT WAS STILL ILLUMINATED AFTER THE VEHICLE CAME TO REST AFTER IMPACT AND THE VEHICLE BRAKES STILL DID NOT APPEAR TO FUNCTION, THIS VEHICLE WAS A TOYOTA LEASE AND WAS TOLD MULTIPLE TIMES BY TOYOTA THAT THE ISSUES WAS RECALLED BY TOYOTA AND THAT THIS VEHICLE HAD THE RECALL PERFORMED. *TR
THIS A SECOND PAIR OF NEW TIRES WE BUY. THEY WERE WORN UNEVENLY. WE DO TIRE ROTATION EVERY 5,000 MILES AND ALIGNMENT EVERY 10,000 MILES. HOWEVER, THE CAR ITS THE TIRES VERY UNEVENLY. THE TIRE PRESSURE IS CHECKED AND KEPT AT THE GIVEN MANUFACTURER RECOMMENDATIONS. ALL MY FRIENDS THAT OWN TOYOTA'S HAVE SIMILAR PROBLEMS. THIS IS A SERIOUS ISSUE THAT COULD LEAD TO AN ACCIDENT IF THE TIRES GET TORN WHEN DRIVING. PLUS WE ARE DAMAGING THE ENVIRONMENT WHEN WE ARE REPLACING THE TIRES SO OFTEN. I HAD SIMILAR TIRES IN A DIFFERENT CAR, THEY LASTED 90,000 MILES. HERE I CANNOT GET 25,000 MILES OUT OF THEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO LOSE POWER LUNGED FORWARD. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO APPLY THE BRAKES HOWEVER, THE BRAKES WERE INOPERABLE AND CAUSED THE CONTACT TO CRASH INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE PASSENGER OF THE SECOND VEHICLE CLAIMED AN INJURY AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM. THE POLICE WERE NOTIFIED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS INOPERABLE AND WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO HAD NOT YET DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE WHO ADVISED THAT THE VEHICLE DIAGNOSIS WAS GOING TO TAKE FOUR TO SIX WEEKS AND OFFERED NO ADDITIONAL ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 28,000.
TURNED ON CAR AND NOTICED ALOT OF THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS STAYED ON. AS I PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL IT FELT WEIRD AND ONCE I PUT THE CAR ON THE DRIVE GEAR I TOTALLY LOST BRAKE CONTROL, THE CAR KEPT MOVING AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO STOP. I HAD TO SHIFT TO "PARK" AND RISK THE TRANSMISSION BUT BETTER THAN RISKING MY LIFE... I CALLED A TOWING TRUCK. THE CAR IS AT THE TOYOTA DEALER AND I DON'T THINK THEY HAVE A CLUE OF WHAT'S WRONG WITH IT.... WE'LL KEEP YOU POSTED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS TRAVELING 25 MPH AND DROVER OVER A ROAD BUMP. THE CONTACT APPLIED THE BRAKES HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESPOND. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER BUT WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
I OWN A 2010 PRIUS, PURCHASED NEW IN FEBRUARY 2010, ONE OF THE OPTIONS I PURCHASED WITH THE CAR WAS HID HEADLIGHTS, WHICH CAME ALREADY INSTALLED IN THE CAR. THE RIGHT HEADLIGHT WENT OUT IN 9/2012 & THE LEFT IN 10/2013. I KNEW RIGHT AWAY THAT WHEN THE 1ST LIGHT WENT OUT THAT THE REPLACEMENT WAS NOT AN HID LIGHT WHICH I HAD INITIALLY PAID FOR & THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NOW WITH THE OTHER BULB BEING REPLACED IN OCT 2013, AGAIN WITH A NON HID BULB, WE CAN NO LONGER DRIVE THE CAR IN THE DARK WITHOUT USING THE BRIGHT LIGHT BEAMS BECAUSE WE CAN NOT SEE THE ROAD IN FRONT OF US AS WELL AS BEYOND. THIS IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN. I ALSO OWNED A 2006 PRIUS WITH HEADLIGHT PROBLEMS. I NEVER RECEIVED THE $365.00 SETTLEMENT IN 2011 FOR THIS PROBLEM, WHY? *TR
MY CAR WAS REAR ENDED BY A SEDAN AND MY CAR WAS PUSHED FORWARD AND ENDED UP REAR ENDING A CAR IN FRONT. NOT SURE ABOUT THE SPEED AT WHICH CAR REAR ENDED ME, BUT I SHOULD HAVE BEEN TRAVELING AROUND 10 MILES OR LESS. AT THE END I NOTICED THAT MY CAR SEAT HAD SLID BACK COMPLETELY. I EXPECTED THE CAR SEAT TO HOLD STEADY SO THAT THE BELT CAN BE EFFECTIVE. I HAVE LOWER BACK AND RIGHT SHOULDER PAIN AND NOT SURE IF IT WOULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED SHOULD THE SEAT HAVE STAYED IN PLACE. I THINK THIS IS A DEFECT THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED AND NOT SURE IF IT'S SPECIFIC TO MY CAR SEAT. MY KID WAS IN THE BACK SEAT AND LUCKILY THERE WAS ENOUGH ROOM AND THE CAR SEAT MOVING BACK DIDN'T HURT HER. BUT SHE WAS SHOCKED THAT THE CAR SEAT CAME CLOSE TO HER AT THE OF THE ACCIDENT. BOTH MY KIDS IN THE BACK SEAT COMPLAINED INITIALLY DUE TO PAIN AND SHOCK. NOW THEY SEEM TO BE FINE NOW. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL BEARING FAILED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CAUSING THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TO MAKE A HOWLING SOUND. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. ONE OR BOTH HEADLIGHTS AND FRONT PARKING LIGHTS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED FOUR TIMES NOW, STARTING IN 2012. LATEST INCIDENT IS JULY 2015.
THE PROBLEM THAT IS CAUSING THE HEAD LIGHTS TO BURN OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED. IT IS A SAFETY HAZARD FOR THIS TO CONTINUE. PURCHASED A TOYOTA PRIUS 2010 IN DECEMBER 2010. SINCE THAT TIME, THE HEAD LIGHTS HAVE BEEN A PROBLEM. EACH TIME THERE IS A PROBLEM, BOTH HEAD LIGHTS BURN OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY. THE FIRST TIME THE HEAD LIGHTS FAILED WAS AUGUST 7, 2012 WHEN THERE WERE FIVE OF US IN THE CAR DRIVING 15+ MILES WITH ABOUT A THIRD OF THE DRIVE ON MANY RESIDENTIAL STREETS THAT WERE NOT WELL LIT. THE DEALERSHIP IN FLORIDA WAS CALLED AND IT WAS EXPLAINED THAT BOTH HEADLIGHTS BURNED OUT AT THE SAME TIME AND THAT IT MUST BE SOMETHING OTHER THAN THE BULBS BECAUSE HEADLIGHTS DO NOT BURN OUT TOGETHER AT THE SAME TIME. THE SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE QUOTED THAT THE COST OF THE REPAIR TO REPLACE THE HEAD LIGHTS WAS ABOUT $150. HE DID NOT ASK IF THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND HE DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE THAT IT COULD BE SOMETHING IN THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM. HE DID NOT SUGGEST THAT THE CAR BE BROUGHT IN TO HAVE THEM PUT IT ON DIAGNOSTIC MACHINES TO VERIFY WHERE THE PROBLEM MAY BE.WE OPTED TO REPLACE THE BULBS OURSELVES. THE SECOND TIME BOTH HEAD LIGHTS BURNED OUT SIMULTANEOUSLY WAS OCTOBER 21, 2012 AND WE AGAIN, REPLACED THE BULBS OURSELVES. THE COST OF THE BULBS INCLUDING TAX IS $54.36. THIS MORNING IS THE THIRD TIME BOTH LIGHTS HAVE BURNED OUT AT THE SAME TIME AGAIN. THE PRIUS HAS 35,840 MILES. THIS IS NOT REASONABLE. WE HAVE ALREADY SPENT $108.72 TO REPLACE THE BULBS TWICE. IT IS UNREASONABLE. IT IS EXTREMELY UNSAFE NOT KNOWING WHEN AND WHERE THE HEAD LIGHTS WILL BURN OUT. WE HAVE TEENAGE DRIVERS AND IT IS UPSETTING TO KNOW THEY ARE NOT IN A SAFE VEHICLE. *TR

I HAVE A 2010 PRIUS VIN:[XXX] WITH 37,000 MILES. THE CAR EXPERIENCES RANDOM LOSSES OF POWER DURING WHICH THE ENGINE SHUTS DOWN AND DOES NOT ACTIVATE NO MATTER HOW HARD I PUMP THE ACCELERATOR. THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION ACCIDENT HAPPENED ON 7/18/2012, ~6:20 PM AT COMPANY'S PARKING LOT. I BACKED MY 2010 PRIUS SLOWLY. THEN I SAW A CAR COMING ON MY WAY. BUT BEFORE I TOOK ANY ACTION, THIS PRIUS SUDDENLY STARTED ACCELERATING, IT WENT WILDLY, AND TURNED MORE THAN 360 DEGREE BACKWARD IN THE PARKING LOT IN JUST A FEW SECONDS. SINCE THE CAR PARKED BETWEEN A BUILDING AND A SLOP, FROM THE FRONT MIRROR, FIRST, I SAW THE BUILDING WALL AND GLASSES, THEN I SAW THE SLOPE, THEN I SAW A CAR PARKED CLOSE TO MY CAR: NO! DON'T HIT THAT CAR! THAT IS THE LAST THING I REMEMBER. BECAUSE OF THE FAST TURNING OF THE CAR AND BECAUSE I WAS SO TERRIBLY SCARED, I LOST CONSCIOUS AFTER THAT UNTIL THE PRIUS HIT THE TRUCK AND BOUNCED BACK AND STOPPED BY ITSELF. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, I WOKE UP AND REALIZED: I AM STILL ALIVE. I GOT OFF THE CAR AND SAW PRIUS PASSED THE TWO CURBS AND HIT THE TRUCK. THE TWO TIRES ON THE DRIVER SIDE GOT FLAT BECAUSE THEY PASSED THE CURB VERY FAST. I WAS SO SCARED THAT I COULDN'T RECALL OF ANYTHING FOR A FEW DAYS UNTIL WEEKEND. WHY DID THE CAR LOSE CONTROL? ONE MAY ARGUE THAT I STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR. THIS COULD HAPPEN TO NEW DRIVERS, BUT NOT TO ME BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING FOR SO MANY YEARS AND ALWAYS A GOOD DRIVER. MANY TIMES I SAW A CAR ON MY WAY WHEN I WAS BACKING, I ALWAYS STOPPED RIGHT AWAY. AND I WAS HEALTHY IN A NORMAL DAY IN NORMAL MODE, ALERT AS USUAL. WHY WOULD I STEP ON ACCELERATOR WHEN BACKING? EVEN IF I MIS-STEPPED ON THE ACCELERATOR, I CAN ALWAYS SWITCH TO BRAKE RIGHT AWAY. BUT I COULD?T DO ANYTHING ABOUT THE CAR ON THE DAY. IT WAS OUT OF CONTROL COMPLETELY. AFTER I LOST CONSCIOUS, MY HANDS WERE OFF THE STEERING WHEEL AND MY FOOT DIDN'T STEP ON ANYTHING, THE CAR DIDN'T SLOW DOWN BUT STILL MOVED FAST AND PASSED TWO CURBS EASILY. 2010 PRIUS BRAKE FAILURE. I WAS ABLE TO SLOW DOWN THE CAR BY REPEATED PUMPING ON THE BRAKES. FORTUNATELY, MANAGED TO CRAWL TO A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER BY USING THE PUMPING TECHNIQUE AND HAVE MY FOOT ON THE EMERGENCY FOOT BRAKE JUST IN CASE. TOYOTA SAID I NEED TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER WITH ACTUATOR. TOTAL COST PARTS/LABOR $4100. I AM UPSET BECAUSE MY FAMILY OR OTHERS COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY HURT IF I PANICKED AND NOT PUMPED ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. OUR CAR WAS INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT ON JULY 5, 2012 AT AROUND 9:30 AM. ACCIDENT OCCURRED ON LITTLE ROAD GOING NORTH AFTER JUNCTION OF RIDGE ROAD AND BEFORE EMBASSY BLVD. CAR WAS IN THE CENTRAL LANE IN A ZONE RATED FOR 45MILES. IT WAS GOING WITH THE TRAFFIC AT AROUND 40 MILES. SUDDENLY A LARGE BIRD, PROBABLY A CRANE, THAT WALKED ON THE ROAD AND ALL VEHICLES SLOWED DOWN TO 15-20 MILES SPEED TO SAVE THE BIRD. THE BIRD WAS SAVED BUT THE CAR BEHIND CHEVY SILVERADO TRUCK DID NOT SLOW DOWN AND HIT OUR CAR REAR END AT FULL SPEED. ONLY TWO CARS WERE INVOLVED IN THE ACCIDENT AND NO ONE WAS BADLY INJURED. DRIVER OF OUR CAR WAS HURT BY PROBABLY BUMPING HER HEAD WITH STEERING, SHE HAD A CUT ON CHIN, AND SCRATCH MARK ON HER NECK FRONT, AND SHE COMPLAINT OF PAIN IN BOTH LEGS AND NECK. HER FACE WAS SWOLLEN AND BECAME BLACK AND BLUE IN 24 HOURS. OUR COMPLAINT IS: 1. NONE OF THE SIX AIR BAGS OPENED TO PROTECT DRIVER OR ANY PASSENGER TO PREVENT INJURY FROM IMPACT.VEHICLE INSPECTOR CONFIRMED THAT THEIR ARE NO SENSORS IN BACK END BUMPER. IT MAY BE GOOD IDEA TO HAVE SUCH SENSOR IN THE BACK AT LEAST FOR THE DRIVER SEAT BECAUSE ANY IMPACT AFFECTS THE DRIVER. 2. LACERATIONS ON THE NECK PROBABLY RESULTED FROM SEAT BELT. WOUND WERE NOT DEEP. HOWEVER LACK OF ADJUSTABLE FIXED END OF THE SEAT BELT MAKES BELT CUT ON THE NECK, ESPECIALLY TO A DRIVER WITH HEIGHT OF AROUND 5 FEET AND IN HIGH IMPACT ACCIDENT CAN SEVERE MAIN BLOOD VESSEL IN THE NECK. POSSIBILITY OF SUCH INJURY CAN BE MINIMIZED BY MAKING A) SEAT BELT ADJUSTABLE AT THE POINT OF FIXATION ON THE BODY OF THE CAR AND B) MAKING WIDE, SOFT AND SLIDING SHOULDER PAD ON THE BELT. *TR
WHEN BRAKING ON ROUGH ROADS THE BRAKES WILL RELEASE, CAUSING THE CAR TO LUNGE FORWARD. VERY SCARY AND DANGEROUS. I TOOK MY CAR BACK TO TOYOTA DEALER TO HAVE THIS CHECKED OUT. THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS PROBLEM (EVEN THOUGH THERE IS A RECALL FOR IT). THEY CHECKED IT OUT AND TEST DROVE IT, BRAKING OVER ROUGH ROAD. THEY SAID IT WAS BRAKING FINE. IT IS STILL RELEASING WHEN BRAKING ON ROUGH PATCHES FOR ME. I AM ALWAYS MINDFUL TO LEAVE PLENTY OF ROOM BETWEEN ME AND THE CAR AHEAD OF ME IN CASE I HIT A ROUGH PATCH. I PLAN ON TAKING MY CAR BACK TO TOYOTA WITH A PRINTOUT FROM THIS SITE SHOWING IT HAS BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS VERY PROBLEM AND THAT OTHERS ARE ALSO EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING.
LOW BEAM HEADLIGHT BULBS BURN OUT MUCH FASTER THAN THEY SHOULD. I HAVE REPLACED BOTH LOW BEAM BULBS AT LEAST 6 TIMES IN THE LAST 2 YEARS. TYPICAL BULBS SHOULD LAST WELL OVER A YEAR, WHEREAS MINE ONLY LAST 2-3 MONTHS. I DO NOT DRIVE WITH HEADLIGHTS ON DURING THE DAY. THIS HAPPENS WITH BOTH LOW BEAMS, BUT NOT SIMULTANEOUSLY. AS A RESULT, I AM INSTALLING NEW BULBS EVERY OTHER MONTH. I NEVER TOUCH THE BULBS (ALWAYS WEAR DISPOSABLE GLOVES) SO THIS IS NOT A RESULT OF FINGER OIL REDUCING THE BULB LIFE. *TR
I HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM EVER SINCE I BOUGHT THIS CAR USED FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. IF I DRIVE OVER AN UNEVEN SURFACE, POTHOLE, ETC., MY CAR WILL SKIP AND THEN LURCH FORWARD. IT IS WORST ON WET ROADS. I HAVE TROUBLE STOPPING IT. ON SNOW I HAVE LITTLE TO NO TRACTION. I GOT A NEW SET OF TIRES AND I WASTED MY MONEY. NO DIFFERENCE. I DON'T FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. I THINK THIS IS SOMETHING TOYOTA JUST DOESN'T WANT TO ADMIT TO AS BEING A PROBLEM.
I APPLIED MY BRAKES APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT AND HIT A SMALL POT HOLE AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED AND NEVER TAKEN OFF THE PEDAL. I HAD TO THEN PRESS DOWN HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP. I HAVE OBSERVED THIS TYPE OF BEHAVIOR WHEN THE ROAD CHANGES SURFACES AND IS LOWER THAN THE PREVIOUS SURFACE AND DIPS IN THE ROAD. THIS IS ALL OBSERVED WHILE ONLY BRAKING AT LOW SPEEDS LESS THAN 40 MPH. EVERY TIME THIS BEHAVIOR IS OBSERVED THERE IS A LOUD BANG, I AM NOT COMPLETELY SURE IF THIS IS FROM SWITCHING SURFACES OR HIT POT HOLES OR DIPS IN THE ROAD. *TR
DRIVING 45 MPH DOWN BUSY 4 LANE STREET WHEN CAR JUST WENT OUT OF GEAR FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL AND WOULDN'T GO INTO GEAR. CAR CAME TO A STOP IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND I WAS ALMOST HIT BY SEVERAL VEHICLES. HAD TO PUSH TO SIDE OF ROAD. CALLED DEALERSHIP AND THEY SENT A TOW TRUCK. THEY SAID THEY HAD NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING BEFORE BUT WHILE I WAS SITTING THERE WAITING FOR A RIDE I WENT ONLINE AND SAW THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE. THE OTHERS AFFECTED BY THIS DEFECT SAID THAT HEAT CAUSES A MAGNET TO DETACH TAKING THE CAR FROM DRIVE TO NEUTRAL. I AM VERY THANKFUL THAT THIS DID NOT HAPPEN ON THE FREEWAY OR COULD HAVE CAUSED FATALITIES. TOYOTA HAS NOT RECALLED ANY VEHICLES OR MADE NOTIFICATION TO OWNERS. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND I'M ONLY PUTTING COMPLAINT IN NOW SINCE I DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO PREVIOUSLY. FOUND OUT 2 DAYS AFTER INCIDENT THAT THE DEALERSHIP HAS HAD THIS ISSUE WITH MORE THAN 100 VEHICLES AND THAT THEY WERE NOT BEING HONEST WHEN THEY SAID THEY NEVER SAW THIS BEFORE. WHEN BRAKING AT A SLOW SPEED THE CAR WILL SUDDENLY STOP BRAKING, WITH BRAKES STILL BEING APPLIED, WHENEVER A ROUGH SURFACE IS ENCOUNTERED, FOR EXAMPLE BUMPS OR POTHOLES. THIS LOSS OF BRAKING HAPPENS EVERYTIME A ROUGH SURFACE IS ENCOUNTERED DURING BRAKING AND IS EASY TO REPLICATE. *TR
MY LOW BEAM HEADLIGHTS BECAME NOTICEABLY MORE DIM -- DANGEROUSLY SO AS I BEGAN TO NEED TO USE HIGH BEAMS TO SEE ANYTHING BEYOND 30' IN FRONT OF ME. THIS BEGAN IN 2012. THEN MY LOW BEAM LIGHTS BEGAN TO GO OUT -- ONE SIDE, THEN THE OTHER. WE REPLACED THEM OURSELVES WITH HIGH QUALITY REPLACEMENTS (AFTER WE FOUND OUT IT WOULD COST OVER $200 FOR LABOR AND HEADLAMP AT OUR DEALER). WE WERE TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ONLY OURS -- THEY HAD "NEVER HEARD OF IT BEFORE." OVER THE PAST THREE YEARS, WE HAVE REPLACED 6 HEADLAMPS! TODAY WAS THE 6TH REPLACEMENT AND WE HAD IT DONE AT THE DEALERS WHERE WE WERE TOLD, AGAIN, THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD OF BEFORE. SEVERAL TIMES, I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE HOME FROM WORK AT NIGHT IN THE DARK WITH NO LOW BEAMS (BOTH WENT OUT) AND USE MY HIGH BEAMS WHILE CARS HEADING TOWARD ME FLASHED THEIR LIGHTS BECAUSE OF THE BLINDING EFFECT OF USING HIGHBEAMS. CONSUMER STATES TWO BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURES *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE BEGAN MAKING AN UNUSUAL SOUND AND AFTER A FEW DAYS, NUMEROUS WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD ANNOUNCING A FAILURE OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. AN INSPECTION REVEALED THE MASTER CYLINDER, BOOSTER AND ECU NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONSUMER PAID $ 3,246.83 FOR THE REPAIRS. HOWEVER, NINE DAYS LATER, THE UNUSUAL BRAKE PEDAL SOUND RETURNED, BUT THE BRAKES WORKED AND NO WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED. THE NEXT DAY, THE BRAKE SYSTEM COMPLETELY FAILED WHILE HIS DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE. AGAIN, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE THE TECHNICIANS DETERMINED THE VEHICLE NEEDED A NEW BRAKE BOOSTER ASSEMBLY. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED HE WOULD ONLY BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE LABOR COSTS OF $ 255.48. THE CONSUMER BELIEVED THE BOOSTER AND BRAKE BOOSTER WERE THE SAME PART, WHICH WAS SUPPOSED TO HAVE BEEN REPLACED SEVERAL DAYS PRIOR. JB
UPON STARTING MY CAR EARLY THIS MORNING, THE HEADLIGHTS WOULD ONLY WORK ON BRIGHT. WHEN DIMMED, THEY WOULD NOT WORK AT ALL. *TR
HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE NEW IN 2010. BRAKES EXHIBIT THE SAME ISSUE MENTIONED IN OTHER COMPLAINTS I.E. WHEN GOING OVER BUMPY ROADS, BRAKES "RELEASE" AND RE-ENGAGE CAUSING THE CAR TO NOT STOP QUICKLY. HAD SOFTWARE RECALL DONE BUT DID NOT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT. HAVE JUST BEEN LIVING WITH IT BUT AFTER SEEING ALL OTHER COMPLAINTS, THOUGHT I WOULD WEIGH IN WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AS IT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH A DESIGN FLAW OF SOME SORT THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED FOR SAFETY REASONS.
My 2010 Toyota Prius has had a charcoal fuel canister leak since day one. 2.9 million Prius cars were recalled and Toyota says my car is NOT included in the recall but has the same issue of the other Toyota Prius that were included? Check engine light has never gone off. Upon fueling a strong odor of gasoline is detected and I am very worried about the car catching fire. Toyota needs to be held accountable and forced to fix this safety related problem.
WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES WAS OVER A MANHOLE COVER AND THE CAR SKIDDED OVER IT LIKE I WAS BRAKING ON A PATCH OF ICE. AS SOON AS I WAS PAST THE COVER THE BRAKES ENGAGED AND STOPPED THE CAR. I NOTICED THIS OCCURRING EVERY TIME I WOULD BRAKE ON AN UNEVEN SURFACE WHERE THERE WAS SPACE BETWEEN ONE OF THE FRONT TIRES AND PAVEMENT. I HAD BOUGHT THE SAME MAKE, MODEL AND YEAR VEHICLE FOR MY SON 11 MONTHS LATER AND NOTICED THE SAME PROBLEM WHILE TEST DRIVING IT. WHEN I QUESTIONED THE SALESMAN ABOUT IT I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS THE WAY THE ABS WORKS AND THAT IT WAS NORMAL. ON 11/20/2014 WHILE CHECKING THE AIRBAG RECALL LIST I NOTICED A RECALL FOR THE SAME PROBLEM THAT I WAS HAVING, RECALL ANNOUNCED 2/9/2010, NHTSA REF # 10V03900 SO I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE 1-800-331-4331 AND WAS TOLD THAT NEITHER CARS' VIN# SHOWED IN THE RECALL SO IT COULD NOT BE HAPPENING AND I WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. THEY REFERRED ME TO A TOYOTA DEALER WHO TOLD ME THAT THE FIX WHICH WAS (REPROGRAMMING OF ABS CONTROL UNIT MODULE) WOULD NOT COVERED IN THE EXTENDED WARRANTIES OF EITHER CARS. I SHOULD NOT BE FINANCIALLY RESPONSIBLE FOR THE DIAGNOSTICS AND REPAIRS OF A KNOWN SAFETY PROBLEM WHICH HAD A RECALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHENEVER BRAKING TO DRIVE OVER ANY UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE, THE BRAKING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE ALSO SEEMED TO PUSH FORWARD AS IF ANOTHER VEHICLE HAD ABRUPTLY CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INSPECTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 38,216. THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY TOYOTA. TOYOTA FOUND NO RECALLS OR FAILURES WITH THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER STATED TO THE SERVICE EMPLOYEE THE VEHICLE LUNGED, ALL LOOSE ITEMS FLEW BACK IN THE SEATS AND THE CONSUMER WAS THRUSTED AGAINST THE SEAT. The contact owns a 2010 Toyota Prius. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle started to hesitate. The ABS and traction control warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that there was brake message displayed. During the failure the brake pedal had to be depressed twice before the vehicle responded. The vehicle was taken to the local Service Center who diagnosed that power brake booster and master cylinder needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle did not qualify for the Extended Warranty related to the failure. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 135,000.
