TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIRS UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V039000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR: ANTILOCK: CONTROL UNIT/MODULE). SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED THE BRAKE PEDAL WOULD FALL ONTO THE FLOORBOARD WHEN THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED. THERE WAS A HESITATION IN BRAKE ENGAGEMENT AND THE CONTACT HAD TO USE THE EMERGENCY BRAKES IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 12,000.
I LEASED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS IN DECEMBER. IMMEDIATELY UPON LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP I NOTICED THAT THE VEHICLE'S BRAKES DO NOT HOLD WHEN YOU HIT A BUMP/POTHOLE. IN FACT, THE CAR SHOOTS FORWARD AND YOU MUST BE PREPARED. I FILLED OUT THE ON-LINE FORM FOR TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE TO GO ON RECORD WITH THEM I HAD THE RECALL SOFTWARE UPGRADE INSTALLED 3 WEEKS AGO, AND WHILE THE PROBLEM IS MUCH LESS SEVERE, THE UPGRADE FIX DOES NOT FULLY CORRECT THIS ISSUE. THIS MORNING, MY VEHICLE'S BRAKES DID NOT HOLD WHEN I WAS BRAKING TO DRIVE OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD AT 20MPH. I HAVE HAD A FEW MORE MINOR OCCURRENCES, BUT TODAY WAS NOTICEABLE. *TR
I BOUGHT A 2010 PRIUS IN JUNE 2009. SHORTLY AFTER GETTING THE CAR I NOTICED THAT IT SEEMED TO "SLIP" WHEN I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY OVER UNEVEN SURFACES (RAILROAD TRACKS, UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES, UTILITY COVERS). WHEN THE RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED I REALIZED THE "SLIP" I WAS FEELING WAS THE BRAKES NOT WORKING MOMENTARILY. I WENT TO A DEALER AND THE CAR WAS SERVICED. HOWEVER, I HAVE CONTINUED TO EXPERIENCE THIS ISSUE EVEN AFTER THE SUPPOSED FIX. *TR
I HAD MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS SERVICED IN ORDER TO ADDRESS A LOSS OF BRAKE POWER WHEN BRAKING WHILE GOING OVER A BUMP. AFTER THE SERVICING THE PROBLEM HAS CONTINUED. IT IS A BRIEF EVENT BUT CONCERNS ME AS WHEN IT HAPPENS IT FEELS MOMENTARILY AS THOUGH THE CAR IS SPEEDING UP. *TR
I HAVE BEEN HAVING TWO ISSUES WITH THE 2010 PRIUS SINCE I BOUGHT IT ON 29TH DEC 2009. 1. UNABLE TO STOP AND SUDDEN ACCELERATION WHEN HITTING ROUGH /UNEVEN ROAD CONDITION AND TRYING TO STOP AND CONTROL THE VEHICLE. 2. UNABLE TO STOP SOME TIMES WHEN DRIVE AT CITY SPEED LIMIT AND GOING BETWEEN SLOW AND STOP AND SLOW AND FAST AND SLOW KIND OF DRIVING, SOMETIME WHEN PRESSING BRAKE, INSTEAD OF DECELERATING IT START TO ACCELERATE AND TAKES LONGER TO STOP. I HAVE ALREADY BEEN TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP 3 TIMES OVER THIS ISSUE. FIRST TIME THEY FIXED BRAKE ISSUE. SECOND TIME IT WAS RECALL THAT THEY TOLD WILL FIX THE PROBLEM I AM HAVING. 3RD TIME THEY SAID THEY CAN REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM. BUT I KNOW I FEEL THE ISSUE SOMETIME. AND I CAN NOT JUST LEAVE THE CAR WITH THEM FOR DAYS TO INVESTIGATE AND I CAN CHANGE MY DRIVING PATTERN OR BEHAVIOR EITHER FOR THIS CAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE ENGINE WAS RESTARTED AND THE VEHICLE RESUMED NORMAL OPERATION. THE DEALER WAS CONTACTED IN REGARDS TO THE FAILURE. RECENTLY, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V039000 (SERVICE BRAKES, AIR: ANTILOCK: CONTROL UNIT/MODULE). THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE INSUFFICIENT AND POTENTIALLY CAUSED THE RECENT FAILURE. THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6,905 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.
MY MAKE: TOYOTA MODEL: PRIUS YEAR: 2010 COMPLAINT NUMBER: 10311958 SUMMARY: MY 2010 PRIUS COMPLETED ITS "RECALL" SERVICE YESTERDAY. TODAY, THE CAR LOST POWER AND DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON TO THE FREEWAY. I WAS ABLE TO PULL OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY AND TURNED IT ON AND OFF SEVERAL TIMES UNTIL IT STARTED. WHEN I CALLED THE DEALER WHICH IS LOCATED IN THOUSAND OAKS, CALIFORNIA, I WAS TOLD BY THE CONSUMER COMPLAINT PERSON THAT THE DEALER WOULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS I WAS ABLE TO RECREATE THE PROBLEM WITH A TECHNICIAN IN THE CAR. *TR
I PREVIOUSLY FILED A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY 2010 PRIUS REGARDING BRAKING FAILURE OVER UNEVEN ROAD SURFACES, CASE #[XXX] . I TOOK MY CAR IN TO OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER YESTERDAY TO HAVE THE ISSUE TAKEN CARE OF (I ALSO RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE ABOUT THE PROBLEM) I GOT MY CAR BACK AND TODAY I EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN WHILE BRAKING AND GOING OVER A BUMP IN THE ROAD. I WANT YOUR AGENCY TO BE AWARE THAT THE TOYOTA FIX MAY NOT BE WORKING. I WILL BE CONTACTING THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA ABOUT THIS SAFETY ISSUE. MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS HAS HAD A DEFECT THAT I NOTICED AFTER PURCHASE. EVERY TIME I BRAKE, WHEN I HIT A BUMP, MY CAR ACCELERATES. THERE WAS A RECALL IN WHICH WE PARTICIPATED ON MARCH 15, 2010 HOWEVER IT DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WITH MY CRUISE CONTROL ON. IT WAS SET TO 56 MPH. ALL OF A SUDDEN, THE VEHICLE STARTED LURCHING. IT WAS LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE THEN SLOW DOWN, THEN ACCELERATE, THEN SLOW DOWN. I IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL. I HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT THE TOYOTA PROBLEM. INFORMATION IS AVAILABLE FROM MYSELF,SINCE I HAVE A SPECIFIC SKILL THAT GIVES ME THE ABILITY TO DIAGNOSE THESES TYPE OF PROBLEMS THAT OTHERS DO NOT HAVE IN THEIR SKILL-SET. EVEN THE FAA PROBLEMS WITH DENIAL OF SERVICE IN THE SYSTEM IS PRETTY SIMPLY ANSWERED. SO NOW,LETS GET TO THE COMPLAINT,YOU FOLKS WOULD NEVER ENGAGE ME AND PAY MY CONSULTANT FEE TO FIX THESE PROBLEMS,AS I HAVE TRIED AND TRIED TO INFORM SO CALLED SMART BUREAUCRATS AND ENGINEERS ON THIS AND OTHER PROBLEMS,BECAUSE YOU BOYS AND GIRLS ARE JUST TOO SMART TO GO DOWN ANY ROAD THAT YOU HAVE NOT BEEN APPROVED TO GO DOWN USUALLY' THERE IS A FIX FOR THE TOYOTA PROBLEM,BUT I DO NOT BELIEVE TOYOTA REALLY WANTS IT FIXED,AND I KNOW THAT SOUNDS GOOFY,BUT IF YOU KNEW OTHER SENSITIVE INFORMATION THAT I KNOW,YOU MIGHT AGREE. SO,BOTTOM LINE,THE US GOVT. PERSONNEL WILL AS USUAL ROUND FILE ANY OFFERS OF ASSISTANCE FROM GUYS WITH MY SET OF SKILLS,AND THE PROBLEMS WILL CONTINUE TO CREATE THE TERRORISM EVENTS HERE. MY 2010 PRIUS WAS "REPAIRED" LAST MONTH. IT INTERMITTENTLY ACCELERATES WITHOUT MY PROMPTING AFTER HITTING A BUMP. THIS ACCELERATION IS AS INTENSE AS THE CAR SEEMS TO ALLOW, AS IF THE PEDAL WERE TO THE FLOOR OR WORSE, AND PERSISTS FOR AT LEAST ONE SECOND AND HAS NOT SUBSIDED SINCE THE ABS ACTUATOR ECU WAS UPDATED IN THE RECALL APPOINTMENT. THIS ACCELERATION IS TERRIFYING AS IT CAN'T BE ANTICIPATED AS IT DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY TIME I HIT A BUMP, AND CAN'T BE SUPPRESSED BY THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I HAVE ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS BEEN SAFELY COASTING TO A STOP WITH THE BRAKES ON AND EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM. IN A FEW CASES THIS ACCELERATION ALMOST CAUSED ME TO HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AT STOP LIGHTS. I NEVER DID EXPERIENCE THE SYMPTOMS DESCRIBED BY TOYOTA RELATING TO THE DELAYED BRAKING PROBLEM, BUT I FEAR THIS PROBLEM AS MUCH OR MORE. *TR
WE OWN A 2010 PRIUS, [XXX] . IT IS ONE OF THE VEHICLES THAT WAS SUBJECT TO THE ABS ACTUATOR ECU UPDATE SAFETY RECALL NOTICE. I TOOK THE CAR IN EARLY THIS MONTH AND HAD THE UPDATE INSTALLED. THE PROBLEM DESCRIBED, REGARDING LIGHT PEDAL PRESSURE AND THE CAR NOT BRAKING CORRECTLY OCCASIONALLY SEEMS TO FIT WELL WITH WHAT I EXPERIENCED. IN THE MIDDLE OF BRAKING, TRYING TO MAKE FULL USE OF THE REGENERATION FEATURE, THE CAR SOMETIMES STOPPED BRAKING MOMENTARILY. I EXPERIENCED THAT THIS WAS MORE LIKELY TO HAPPEN ON A BUMPY ROAD. IN THE 6 MONTHS OR SO I DROVE THE CAR, PRIOR TO THE UPDATE, I EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM ROUGHLY 12 TIMES. I AM SAD TO REPORT HOWEVER THAT IN THE TWO WEEKS SINCE THE CAR WAS UPDATED, I HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED TWO ADDITIONAL EVENTS AFTER THE UPDATE THAT SEEM EXACTLY LIKE WHAT I EXPERIENCED BEFORE THE UPDATE. I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO MY DEALER (PRESTIGE TOYOTA, IN RAMSEY, NJ) AND SOMEONE THERE TESTED IT AND WAS CONVINCED THAT THE UPDATE WAS INSTALLED. DESPITE THE COMPUTER UPDATE FOLLOWING THE RECALL MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS CONTINUES TO HAVE BRAKING PROBLEMS. SINCE THE UPDATE THE CAR ACCELERATES SLIGHTLY WHEN AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE IS ENCOUNTERED WHILE BRAKING. TOYOTA SAYS THIS IS NORMAL OPERATION. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THERE ARE THREE DRIVING MODES: EV, ECO AND POWER. EV IS ALL ELECTRIC, FOR VERY SHORT DISTANCES AT SPEEDS UNDER 25 MPH. EVERY TIME I USE THE EV MODE, AND ACCELERATE PAST 10 (TEN) MILES PER HOUR, THE SYSTEM BEEPS AND THE DISPLAY ALERTS THAT I AM EXCEEDING THE SPEED, AND SHIFTS ONTO ANOTHER MODE. I AM UNABLE TO USE THE EV MODE AS ADVERTISED BY TOYOTA. I HAVE TAKEN THE AUTO TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY REFUSE TO ACKNOWLEDGE THE AUTO OPERATES IN FULL ELECTRIC MODE , AT LOW SPEEDS, FOR SHORT DISTANCES. *TR
THE BRAKE FIX ON MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES RELEASING UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS. I EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM 3 TIMES BEFORE THE FIX AND 2 TIMES AFTER. THE ONLY WAY I COULD REPRODUCE THE PROBLEM WAS WHILE BRAKING ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD. SINCE HAVING MY CAR REPAIRED UNDER TOYOTA'S RECALL PROGRAM, I HAD THE BRAKES RELEASE ONCE ON WET ROADS (3/14) AND ONCE ON ICE (3/25).
MY PRIOR PRIUS WAS REPURCHASED BY TOYOTA 09/09 WITH SEVERE ELECTRICAL ISSUES WHICH ONLY ESCALATED. I BELIEVE THE MAN IN CA BECAUSE THAT HAPPENED TO US ON THE HIGHWAY, AND OUR CAR BEHAVED AS IF IT WERE 'POSSESSED'. NOW MY 2010 IS HAVING INTERMITTENT ISSUES, INCLUDING AN ANTI-SKID/ BRAKING LIGHT THAT WE'D THOUGHT WAS REMEDIED BY RESETTING AN ABS ACTUATOR FRIDAY-IT WAS ON SINCE TEST DRIVING THE CAR-BUT I WAS TOLD MANY EXCUSES, AND EVENTUALLY THEY WERE AWARE BUT DID NOT KNOW HOW TO CORRECT THIS. (?) I'M CONCERNED ABOUT DRIVING THIS VEHICLE AS MY 2007 TRAPPED US IN THE CAR TWICE-911 CALLED IN A PANIC-PLUS MY SMALL DAUGHTER'S SAFETY WAS AT RISK JUST BY OWNING THAT CRAZY CAR. I WAS DRIVING DOWN LAUREL CANYON IN LOS ANGELES, I HIT MY BRAKES, THEY ACCELERATED AND I HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I DID HAVE THE CODE IN MY 2010 PRIUS FIXED HOWEVER THERE WERE STILL SOME MINOR ACCELERATION PROBLEMS AND I WAS SO ANNOYED THAT I DIDN'T SAY ANYTHING. HOWEVER NOW I HAVE RAN INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ACTIVATED. THERE WAS PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH A SUDDEN INCREASE OF ACCELERATION UP TO 70 MPH. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON ONE OCCASION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 13,364. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 13,647.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS BRAKING FROM 2 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO STOP THE ACCELERATION AS THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE ASPHALT OF A DRIVEWAY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED MODERATE INJURIES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN INVESTIGATOR TO FURTHER INSPECT THE FAILURE. THE INVESTIGATOR STATED THAT THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS WERE DEPRESSED SIMULTANEOUSLY, CAUSING THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THERE WERE NO FAILURES FOUND IN THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE AND PURCHASED A NEW VEHICLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE APPROXIMATELY 1,700. UPDATED 11/19/10. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED SHE HAD NO CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, IT JUST SUDDENLY ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. THE VEHICLE JUMPED OVER A CURB BORDERING THE PARKING LOT, THEN OVER A DRAINAGE DEPRESS/GRASS MEDIAN THROUGH A SIZEABLE SHRUB EDGE. THE VEHICLE THEN SLAMMED INTO A CONCRETE SIDEWALK AND DOWN TO THE STREET CURB, FINALLY STOPPING WITH THE MOTOR OFF AND HAVING BLOWN TWO TIRES. UPDATED 12/01/10*JB
WHILE DRIVING ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET AT APPROXIMATELY 25 TO 30MPH, I PUT ON BRAKES FOR A SPEED BUMP AND MY 2010 PRIUS LOST BRAKE POWER FOR A (VERY SHORT) PERIOD OF TIME. THIS SAME EVENT HAPPENED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS FROM NOVEMBER OF 2009 TO THE PAST WEEK. IN ALL CASES THE STREET WAS DRY AND THE CAR WAS TRAVELING AT OR BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT. ONE OCCURRENCE WAS AS DESCRIBED ABOVE AND THE OTHER TWO WE ON SOMEWHAT OF A ROUGH SPOT IN THE ROAD. *TR
I BROUGHT MY 2010 PRIUS TO SERVICE THE RECALLED BRAKE SOFTWARE ISSUE. PREVIOUS TO THIS, I NOTICED BRAKING PROBLEMS WHEN ON SLIPPERY AND/OR BUMPY ROADS WHERE THE BRAKES WOULD 'STOP BRAKING' FOR 1-2 SECONDS, AND GIVE A FEELING THAT THE CAR WAS LUNGING FORWARD WHEN ATTEMPTING TO DECELERATE. I BROUGHT THE CAR IN TO HAVE THE BRAKE SOFTWARE UPGRADED. ON MARCH 12TH I WAS DRIVING ON WET ROADS, WITH SOME POTHOLES, IT WAS FAIRLY BUMPY. I SLOWED THE CAR AS USUAL AND NEAR THE STOPLIGHT THE CAR FAILED TO DECELERATE FOR 1-2 SECONDS, AND I THOUGHT I WAS GOING TO CRASH INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. AFTER 1-2 SECONDS THE BRAKES CAUGHT AGAIN AND I HAD TO SLOW DOWN MUCH MUCH FASTER TO AVOID HITTING THE VEHICLE IN FRONT. MY CONCERN IS THAT THE BRAKE SOFTWARE UPGRADE DID NOT FIX THE PROBLEM, AND I CONTINUE TO BE AT RISK. *TR
2010 PRIUS BRAKE ECU UPDATE DID NOT SOLVE PROBLEM. THIS IS AN UPDATE TO A PRIOR COMPLAINT, REFERENCE # 10300235. THE BRAKES FAILED UNDER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES AND EXHIBITED THE SAME BEHAVIOR AS IN THE PREVIOUS COMPLAINT. THE DEALER, HUNTINGTON TOYOTA, ALLEGEDLY UPDATED THE ECU ON 2/24/2010. THE CAR LOSES BRAKING ABILITY BRIEFLY WHILE SLOWING DOWN (BELOW 10 MPH) AND PASSING OVER A ROUGH ROAD SURFACE OR POTHOLE. THE SENSATION IS ONE OF THE CAR SURGING FORWARD. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIME SINCE THE UPGRADE, THE LATEST OCCURRENCE BEING 3/11/2010. *TR

TODAY I DROVE THE CAR TO SEE WHAT WOULD HAPPEN IF THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING AND I WANTED TO STOP IT OTHER THAN PUTTING ON THE BRAKES AND HITTING THE PARK BUTTON. I WAS TRYING TO REPRODUCE THE CONDITIONS WHICH HAVE RESULTED IN NUMEROUS ACCIDENTS AND MORE THAN ONE LIFE. WHILE SLIGHTLY ACCELERATING I FIRST TRIED TO STOP THE CAR BY PRESSING THE POWER BUTTON. THIS DID NOTHING. I THEN PRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL ON THE LEFT SIDE WHICH IS YOUR HAND BRAKE, HARD UNTIL THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AND THE ALARM SOUNDED. IN SPITE OF THIS THE CAR KEPT GOING! THE ONLY WAY I COULD STOP THE CAR WAS BY STOPPING THE CAR WITH THE FOOT BRAKE AND THEN PRESSING THE PARK BUTTON. *TR
I RECENTLY GOT A RECALL ON MY 2010 PRIUS BUT STILL HAVING A PROBLEM WITH BRAKES. I WENT TO CHECK ON THE PROBLEMS TODAY (SATURDAY, MARCH 13, 2010), HOWEVER, THEY SAID THE LEAD MECHANIC WAS NOT THERE AND COULD NOT HELP ME WITH DISCUSSING PROBLEMS. THEY WANTED ME TO SET UP AN APPOINTMENT AGAIN DURING THE WEEKDAYS (WHICH WILL BE A MORE PROBLEMATIC FOR ME SINCE I WORK FULL TIME AND THEY DON'T OFFER "RENTAL" SERVICE EITHER). I HAVE A GREAT FEAR OF DRIVING THIS CAR AGAIN ON THE ROAD WHERE THERE COULD BE LOTS OF UNEXPECTED ACCIDENTS. I GENERALLY DON'T UNDERSTAND THAT THERE WAS NOBODY WHO COULD TAKE A LOOK AT MY VEHICLE AND GIVE ME SOME ADVICE WHEN THERE ARE LOTS OF CUSTOMERS WHO ARE LOOKING TO GET SOME HELP DURING THE WEEKEND. MY BRAKE STILL SLIPS AND I LOOSE MY CONTROL OVER MY BRAKES WHEN I GO OVER POT HOLES OR SLOWING DOWN AND MAKING TURNS. AGAIN, THE "RECALL" SERVICE DID NOT GIVE ME ANY SOLUTIONS. I DISCUSSED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AGAIN WITH SALES REPRESENTATIVE AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND ASKED THEM POSSIBLE OPTIONS TO RETURN MY CAR OR GETTING A NEW ONE SINCE IT'S BEEN QUITE LONG DAYS EVER SINCE I STARTED COMPLAINING ABOUT THE SAME PROBLEMS, AND THEY SAID NO TO EVERYTHING. I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS THAT HAS HAD THE SOFTWARE UPDATE RECALL PERFORMED. SINCE HAVING THE RECALL DONE, THE BRAKES ON THE CAR SEEM TO WORK EVEN WORSE THAN BEFORE. IT STILL OCCASIONALLY FEELS AS THOUGH THE BRAKES ARE SLIPPING WHILE GOING OVER A BUMP, AND THE BRAKES ALSO DO NOT SEEM TO WORK AS WELL UNDER NORMAL OPERATION. *TR
SEVERE BRAKE GRAB IN SLOW SPEED REVERSE OR FORWARD. VERY INTERMITTENT. RESEARCH SHOWS SAME COMPLAINT FOUND IN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA SITE. DEALER AND TOYOTA UNAWARE AND WERE OF NO HELP IN RESOLUTION. *TR
THIS HAS OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE INCIDENTS. THIS CAR DOES NOT STOP PROPERLY ON ROUGH ROADS. WHEN HITTING A POTHOLE, BUMP, MANHOLE COVER, ROUGH ROAD WHILE APPLYING THE BRAKES, INSTEAD OF STOPPING, THE CAR SURGES FORWARDS APPROXIMATELY 5-10 FEET AS THOUGH THERE WERE NO BRAKES. EVENTUALLY, THE BRAKES WORK AND THE CAR STOPS. BUT IT CAN BE REALLY SCARY. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO TOYOTA SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THEY CANNOT "REPLICATE THE INCIDENT." BASICALLY, I THINK THEY DRIVE IT AROUND THE BLOCK AND IT DOESN'T HAPPEN. IT IS ALWAYS WORSE WITH THE SUMMER TIRES VS THE STUDDED WINTER TIRES. THEY SAY IT HAS TO DO WITH THE REGEN BRAKES SWITCHING TO THE ANTI-LOCKS, BUT I REGULARLY DRIVE RENTAL CARS WITH ANTI-LOCKS FOR WORK IN OTHER CITIES, AND I KNOW WHAT ANTI-LOCKS FEEL LIKE. I HAVE NEVER FELT THE "CHATTER" ONE FEELS WHEN THE ANTI-LOCKS KICK ON. I DO NOT BELIEVE THE ANTI-LOCKS WORK PROPERLY ON THIS CAR. ON MAY 3, 2012, I HAD TO REPLACE THE RIGHT REAR BRAKE (ROTOR, PLATE, PADS) DUE TO UNEXPECTED CORROSION. MY CAR HAD ~17-18,000 MILES ON IT AND WAS ONLY 1.5 YEARS OLD! I HAVE NEVER HAD TO DO THIS ON ANY OTHER CAR. NOW AT 27, 000 MILES, MENDENHALL TOYOTA SAYS I NEED TO REPLACE THE REAR BRAKES AGAIN . I JUST REPLACED THE FRONT BRAKE PADS LAST WEEK. THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL AND KEEP TELLING ME THAT MY CAR IS FUNCTIONING PROPERLY AND THAT ALL HYBRIDS BRAKE THIS WAY. I WILL ADMIT MY PRIUS STOPS QUICKER THAN BEFORE THAN THE RECALL HOWEVER I STILL NOTICE THAT IT SURGES FORWARD BEFORE THE CARE STOPS AT TIMES. IN THE 2 WEEKS I HAD THE CAR BACK AFTER THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL I AND MY HUSBAND NOTICED THAT THE BRAKES STILL SURGED FORWARD BEFORE STOPPING. I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT HERE BEFORE ABOUT MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, WHERE THE BRAKES WERE SUPPOSEDLY FIXED LAST WEEK BY TOYOTA FOLLOWING THE RECALL. HOWEVER, JUST TODAY THE BRAKING PROBLEM, WHEN HITTING BUMPS IN THE ROAD, SEEMS TO NOT HAVE BEEN FIXED AT ALL. ON THE WAY HOME, I EXPERIENCED THE BRAKE FAILURE AGAIN WHEN I WAS BRAKING AND DROVE OVER A SMALL POTHOLE. I EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM LATER THAT DAY WHEN BRAKING TO STOP AT A RED LIGHT, THE PAVEMENT SURFACE DESCENDED SLIGHTLY BENEATH THE CAR, THE BRAKES LAPSED, AND THE CAR LURCHED FORWARD. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP. THEY REFERRED TO THE MATERIALS SUPPLIED BY TOYOTA AND TOLD ME TO CALL TOYOTA AT 1-800-331-4331 TO NOTIFY TOYOTA THAT THE RECALL FIX DID NOT WORK. UPON CALLING THIS NUMBER AND NAVIGATING THE OPTIONS ON THE AUTOMATED SYSTEM, I SAT THROUGH A LONG RECORDING STATING THAT THERE WAS A RECALL OF THE 2010 PRIUS. MY 2010 PRIUS HAD THE BRAKE SOFTWARE UPDATED BEFORE I PURCHASED IT. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR FOR 12 DAYS. DURING THAT TIME I HAVE EXPERIENCED A BRAKING PROBLEM ON 3 INSTANCES. ON THE THIRD INCIDENT MY WIFE WAS A PASSENGER IN THE CAR AND ALSO NOTICED THAT FOR A SPLIT SECOND IT FELT LIKE I EASED OFF THE BRAKE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TO MAKE SURE THE SOFTWARE HAD BEEN UPDATED. THEY CONFIRMED THAT IT HAD AND MAKE A NOTE OF MY EXPERIENCE. I HAVE READ ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKES ON THE HYBRID FORD FUSION AND THE PROBLEM WITH MY CAR MAY BE THE SAME. ETC. AM ALWAYS TOLD "SCAN SHOWS NO PROBLEMS". I THINK THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH ELECTRONICS. UNSAFE, FRIGHTENING. LATEST INCIDENT ON 3/05/10. DEALER INSTALLED SOFTWARE FIX FOR BRAKE RECALL ON 2/10/10. AT TIMES MUST REPEATEDLY MOVE GEAR SHIFT LEVER BEFORE IT RESPONDS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 MPH AND APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT, HE PLACED HIS FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. THE VEHICLE THEN ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AS HE TRAVELED OVER A POT HOLE. UPON CONTACTING THE DEALER, HE WAS ADVISED THAT HE WOULD HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL HE RECEIVED RECALL NOTIFICATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER BEFORE MAKING ANY REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,000 AND THE CURRENT WAS 4,200.
I WAS DRIVING MY BRAND NEW, 3 WEEKS OLD, 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS ON A RURAL ROAD IN CLARK COUNTY WASHINGTON ON THURSDAY, MARCH 4, 2010, WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO SLOW DOWN TO MAKE A VERY SHARP LEFT TURN. I WAS APPLYING MY BRAKES WHEN ALL OF THE SUDDEN I REALIZED I WAS NOT SLOWING DOWN MUCH AND WAS NOT GOING TO MAKE THE TURN. I HAVE MANEUVERED THIS TURN HUNDREDS OF TIMES AND KNOW THAT ONE MUST SLOW TO ALMOST A CRAWL TO MAKE THE TURN. I TRAVEL THIS AREA AT LEAST 1-2 TIMES PER WEEK, SO I WAS NOT UNFAMILIAR WITH THE TURN. IT FELT LIKE MY CAR INITIALLY SLOWED SOME, BUT THEN SLOWING CEASED AND I ENDED UP ON EMBANKMENT. THE FRONT OF MY CAR WAS DAMAGED SEVERELY. I WAS NOT HURT BUT LEFT WITH A VERY FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE TO DEAL WITH. I AM A EXCELLENT DRIVER AND HAVE NEVER HAD A WRECK IN THE 31 YEARS I HAVE BEEN DRIVING. I BELIEVE MY BRAKES INITIALLY ENGAGED, BUT THEN DUE TO THE RURAL ROAD SURFACE, AND PEBBLES LEFT ON THE ROAD FROM PREVIOUS ICE AND SNOW, MAY HAVE CAUSED MY BRAKES TO NOT WORK AS THEY SHOULD HAVE. I ATTEMPTED TO CONTACT TOYOTA BUT THEY ARE CLOSED DUE TO IT BEING THE WEEKEND. MY CAR IS AT THE AUTO BODY SHOP AS I WRITE THIS LETTER. MY CONCERN IS THAT I WAS ALLOWED TO PURCHASE A VEHICLE, THAT IS ON THE RECALL LIST WITH SUCH A DANGEROUS DEFECT SUCH AS "THE BRAKES NOT WORKING PROPERLY." I HAVE A TEENAGE SON WHO IS JUST LEARNING TO DRIVE AND WOULD IT HAVE BEEN HIM, THE ACCIDENT MAY HAVE BEEN WORSE. PLEASE ADVISE HOW YOU BELIEVE I SHOULD PROCEED. I AM VERY CONCERNED, UPSET, AND DO NOT FEEL SAFE IN THIS CAR! I HAVE OWNED 4 TOYOTA PRIUS HYBRID VEHICLES (2005, 2007, 2008, 2010). I EXPERIENCED A SLIGHT FEELING OF ACCELERATION SOMETIMES WHEN DEPRESSING THE GAS PEDAL IN THE 07 AND 08 MODELS. I ALSO FELT A SLIGHT SURGE SOMETIMES WHEN BRAKING. WHEN I ASKED THE TOYOTA MECHANIC ABOUT THIS I WAS TOLD THAT STORED ENERGY FROM THE HYBRID SYSTEM WAS BEING EXPELLED. I NEVER THOUGHT IT MIGHT BE A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE OF WHAT HE SAID. NOW I DRIVE THE 2010 PRIUS, HAD THE BRAKE RECALL DONE LAST WEEK AND A COUPLE DAYS LATER, WHEN DRIVING OVER 3 SLIGHT BUMPS WHEN ENTERING A PARKING LOT, I FELT THAT SAME SLIGHT ACCELERATION. PLEASE CONTINUE DEMANDING TOYOTA FIX THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. PLEASE TALK TO THE US CONGRESS ABOUT INVESTIGATING THESE CARS BEFORE THERE ARE MORE ACCIDENTS.
