I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS WITH BRAKING PROBLEMS, WHICH HAVE CONTINUED TO OCCUR EVEN AFTER I TOOK IT TO MY TOYOTA DEALER FOR THE RECALL REPAIR ON FEBRUARY 12, 2010. THREE TIMES SINCE THEN THE BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE FOR ABOUT THREE SECONDS, WHEN I WAS TRYING TO STOP, ON A DRY SURFACE THAT WAS SLIGHTLY UNEVEN. THIS WAS NOT THE SUDDEN RAPID PUMPING OF ABS BRAKES WHICH I WOULD RECOGNIZE FROM YEARS OF USE WITH ABS EQUIPPED CARS. THE DEALER SAW NO PROBLEM WHEN I BROUGHT IT BACK TO THEM LAST WEEK. I AM WORRIED IT WILL CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE BEEN EXPERIENCE MOMENTARY LOSS OF BRAKING POWER WHILE DRIVING MY 2010 PRIUS ON ROUGH ROAD SURFACE OR POTHOLES MORE THAN 30 TIMES SINCE I OWN THIS VEHICLE. I FILED A COMPLAINT (ODI #10304434) BACK IN FEB 3RD. 2010 BEFORE THE RECALL FROM TOYOTA. MY PRIUS WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL, SO I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE BACK TO TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER FOR THE RECALL. TOYOTA UPDATED THE ABS ECU SOFTWARE ON MY PRIUS ON FEB. 2010. SINCE TOYOTA UPDATED THE SOFTWARE FOR THE RECALL, I STILL EXPERIENCE THE SAME PROBLEM MULTIPLE TIMES, AND IT IS NOT ONLY HAPPEN DURING SLOW AND STEADY APPLICATION OF BRAKES, ALSO HAPPEN WHEN I USE THE BRAKE IN MORE SUDDEN FASHION EVEN AT MODERATE SPEED (30-40MPH). I BROUGHT MY PRIUS BACK TO THE TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER AGAIN IN MAY 2010 TO RECHECK THE ABS ECU SOFTWARE, AND THEY SAID THE SOFTWARE IS THE LATEST UPDATED VERSION, AND MY BRAKING SYSTEM IS MEETING THE MANUFACTURE SPECIFICATION. HOWEVER, THIS PROBLEM IS STILL EXIST AS OF TODAY, AND MY CONCERN REGARDING SAFETY OF THIS VEHICLE IS GROWING BECAUSE THIS PROBLEM LEAD TO INCREASE VEHICLE STOPPING DISTANCE AND THUS RAISE THE LIKELIHOOD OF A CRASH OR ACCIDENT. *TR

HE WAS ABLE TO FIX THAT BUT NOW ONLY IN THE COOL MORNINGS THERE IS A POPPING SOUND COMING FROM THE DASH. PLEASE CONTACT ME AS TO WHEN HE CAN WORK ON IT AGAIN. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT IT BE DONE FIRST THING IN THE AM. CAR NEEDS TO BE COOL! I AM SURE IF LEFT IN THE SUN IT WILL NOT DO IT. I BROUGHT MY 2010 PRIUS IN ON 2/5/10 FOR THE SERVICE WORK RELATING TO THE RECENT RECALL. TODAY, THE PROBLEM RECURRED; HOWEVER, THIS TIME, MY CAR SLIPPED WHILE I WAS DRIVING (BUT NOT BRAKING) AS I WAS TURNING WEST ONTO CONGRESS FROM NORTHBOUND COLUMBUS. THE ROAD SURFACE THERE IS UNEVEN. PREVIOUSLY, THIS SITUATION OCCURRED ONLY WHILE BRAKING ON AN UNEVEN ROAD SURFACE. THIS TIME, I PUT ON BRAKES PRIOR TO ENTERING THE TURN; I WAS NOT BRAKING AT THE TIME THE CAR SLIPPED. THE CAR DID NOT SURGE, BUT I DID FEEL MOMENTARILY LIKE I HAD LOST CONTROL OF IT. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS MODEL V WITH THE ADVANCED TECHNOLOGY OPTION INCLUDING PCS (PRE-COLLISION SYSTEM) SYSTEM. TWICE IN THE LAST 6 WEEKS THE PCS SYSTEM HAS TRIGGERED WHILE I HAVE BEEN DRIVING. AT THIS TIME I DID NOT HAVE THE RADAR CONTROLLED CRUISE CONTROL ON OR ENGAGED. BOTH TIMES, THE SEATBELTS RAPIDLY RETRACTED THE CAR STARTED BRAKING RAPIDLY AND BEEPING AGGRESSIVELY. BOTH TIMES AFTER WHAT SEEMED LIKE 3-5 SECONDS THE CAR RETURNED TO NORMAL DRIVING. BOTH TIMES I WAS DRIVING AT NIGHT AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 35 AND 55 MPH. BOTH TIMES DUE TO THE RAPID SEATBELT/SHOULDER BELT RETRACTION MY LEFT ARM AND CHEST WAS HURT. THE PAIN LASTS ABOUT A WEEK, SO THERE WAS A SERIOUS BRUISE WHICH WOULD HAVE BEEN OK IF THERE WAS REALLY A CRASH SITUATION. BOTH TIMES THERE WAS NO ONE IN FRONT OF ME. ONCE THERE WAS SOMEONE BEHIND ME WHO ALMOST CRASHED INTO ME BECAUSE OF THE RAPID BRAKING. *TR
I OWN A 2010 PRIUS. I HAVE OWNED THE CAR SINCE OCT 2009. TWICE I LET THE CAR SIT IN MY GARAGE WITHOUT DRIVING IT FOR 6 DAYS. THE BATTERY COMPLETELY DISCHARGE OVER THE 6 DAYS SUCH THAT THE CAR HAS TO BE JUMPED IN ORDER FOR IT TO START. BOTH TIMES I TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA SERVICE CENTER AND BOTH TIMES THEY DID NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR. THERE SOLUTION WAS TO NOT LET THE CAR SIT UNDRIVEN FOR THAT LONG. HOWEVER, IF I TOOK THE CAR TO THE AIRPORT AND LEFT IT WHILE I WAS GONE FOR A WEEK, IT WOULD NOT START WHEN I RETURN. THIS IS NOT ACCEPTABLE TO ME SINCE I TRAVEL A LOT. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA I HAVE NO RECOURSE. *TR
2010 PRIUS PURCHASED IN AUGUST 2009. SURGE WHEN APPLYING BRAKES. OCCURRED 4 TIMES INCLUDING 2/15/2010. HAS OCCURRED IN SAME PLACE 3 TIMES. EACH TIME THERE WERE POTHOLES. WHEN THEY WERE FIXED, DID NOT HAPPEN UNTIL THEY RETURNED. COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THIS WAS NORMAL WHEN HYDRAULIC AND ELECTRONIC BRAKES EXCHANGE. I SUGGESTED IT WAS A DANGEROUS NORMAL. NO DAMAGE OR INJURY IN ANY CASE. WAS ALWAYS ABLE TO PUSH HARDER ON BRAKE TO STOP CAR. STUNS YOU WHEN IT HAPPENS BECAUSE IT IS NOT NORMAL. SINCE FIRST INSTANCE, HAVE TRIED TO KEEP DISTANCE WHEN SLOWING AND BRAKING. *TR
WHEN BRAKING IF MY CAR HITS A BUMP MY BRAKES DISENGAGE. *TR
I WAS BRINGING MY 2010 PRIUS TO A STOP AT A STOPSIGN ON E BOUND MLK DRIVE IN SAN FRANCISCO'S GOLDEN GATE PARK THE EVE OF 2/15/10. THE PAVEMENT WAS BUMPY, AND THE BRAKES "SKIPPED" FOR A HALF-SECOND. I WAS ABLE TO BRING THE CAR TO A SAFE AND COMPLETE STOP WITHOUT HAZARD, EXCEPT FOR A MOMENTARY JUMP IN MY HEART RATE. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT HAS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. A CRASH OCCURRED WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE APPLIED PRESSURE TO THE BRAKE PEDAL TO NO AVAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TRAVELING 15 MPH AT THE TIME OF THE FAILURE. THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE A FACTOR AND THE ROAD WAS COVERED WITH SNOW AND ICE AT THE TIME. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,000. I TOOK MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS IN FOR THE RECALLS AND IT STILL HAS THE SAME ACCELERATION PROBLEM. *TR
I WAS GOING DOWN A HILL (APPROX 20MPH) IN MY SUBDIVISION (NORTH ON HARTER FARMS RD) WHEN I SAW A CAR PULLING OUT ONTO THE ROAD FROM HIS YARD. I APPLIED THE BRAKES HARD FOR ABOUT 100YDS BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO TURN INTO PALIMINO DR TO AVOID A COLLISION. I DID NOT MAKE THE TURN AND HIT A STOP SIGN AND THEN THE GUARD RAIL AT APPROX 5MPH. THERE WAS ABOUT 1-2" OF SNOW ON THE ROAD AND I HAD DRIVEN UP THE SAME HILL FROM A STOP WITHOUT SLIPPING A TIRE JUST 15 MIN PRIOR. I NEVER FELT ANY PULSATION FROM THE ABS DURING THE ATTEMPT TO STOP. AFTERWARDS WHEN I GOT HOME I ATTEMPTED TO STOP HARD (TO TEST THE BRAKES) ON LEVEL GROUND AND AGAIN NEVER FELT THE PULSATION FROM THE ABS SYSTEM. THERE WAS BRAKING BUT I FELT IT WAS GREATLY REDUCED. I HAVE NOT RETURNED THE CAR TO TOYOTA FOR THEIR RECALL YET. IF YOU WISH TO EXAMINE THE CAR YOU MAY. I AM SURE YOU CAN DUPLICATE THE RESULTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 PRIUS, AND WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES AT ANY INTENSITY AND MY VEHICLE HITS A DEFECT IN THE ROAD SURFACE, THE ABS SYSTEM SEEMS TO RELEASE BRAKE PRESSURE TO ALL 4 WHEELS COMPLETELY FOR ABOUT HALF A SECOND. THIS MAKES ME QUESTION THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE BRAKES IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, ESPECIALLY ON HOUSTON'S NOTORIOUSLY NEGLECTED ROADWAYS. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NORMAL BY BOTH TOYOTA MOTOR CO. AT 1-800-331-4331 AND ALSO BY THE DEALER. TMC INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS THE WAY THAT THE ABS SYSTEM WAS DESIGNED. PLEASE LAUNCH AN INQUISITION AND/OR INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER, FOR THE SAFETY OF THE OWNERS OF ALL TOYOTA PRIUS VEHICLES. *TR
HIT A POT HOLE WHILE USING BRAKES AND CAR LUNGED FORWARD. *TR
TL- THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE THE BRAKE DID NOT RESPOND HE HAD TO INCREASE THE STOPPING DISTANCE HE EXPERIENCED THE FAILURE SEVERAL TIMES, BUT THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHOM PERFORMED A DIAGNOSED, BUT WAS UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TEST DRIVEN, BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE RECREATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE TO LOCAL DEALERSHIP. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WERE 9,999. LI
2/13, THE DAY AFTER MY CAR WAS "FIXED" UNDER THE RECALL, MY BRAKES FAILED. I WAS ON THE WAY TO THE AIRPORT, AND THE BRAKES FAILED . WHEN I RETURNED HOME FROM MY TRIP, I BROUGHT IT IN TO TOYOTA KEARNY MESA IN SAN DIEGO, WHO FOUND NOTHING WRONG. MY BRAKES FAILED AGAIN A WEEK AGO. I WAS DRIVING ON A SMOOTH ROAD, SLOWING DOWN FOR A LIGHT, WHEN SUDDENLY THE CAR SPEEDED UP AND I WENT STRAIGHT THOUGH THE RED LIGHT. NO CARS WERE NEARBY, SO I DID NOT CRASH AND NO ONE WAS HURT. AGAIN, TOYOTA FOUND NOTHING WRONG. THEY TELL ME THAT THEY CAN'T FIX IT UNLESS THEY CAN "REPLICATE" THE PROBLEM. THEY WANT ME TO RETURN THE LOANER CAR TOMORROW MORNING AND DRIVE HOME WITH MY PRIUS AND I'M SCARED. *TR
PLEASE LET ME STATE THAT I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH THE DEALERSHIP THAT I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM. ALL SERVICES FROM OIL CHANGES TO REPAIRS HAVE DONE BY THIS DEALER ONLY. BUT EVER SINCE I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE, I HAVE BEEN CONSTANTLY COMPLAINING ABOUT A STRANGE BRAKING ISSUE. WHEN I AM TRAVELING 25 MPH OR ABOVE AND HIT ANY KIND OF IMPERFECTION IN THE ROAD ( IE. RAILROAD TRACK, DIP, POTHOLE, MANHOLE COVER ETC.) MY BRAKES DISENGAGE FOR A SPLIT SECOND. I WILL STILL HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND GO OVER IMPERFECTION AND FOR A BRIEF SECOND THE CAR SURGES FORWARD RAPIDLY AND THEN THE BRAKE ENGAGES AGAIN. I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT THIS MORE THAN 3 TIMES. ALL THREE TIMES THE DEALER SAYS THAT THEY CAN NOT REPEAT THIS ISSUE. I NOW HAVE 70,000 MILES ON THE CAR AND THIS IS STILL HAPPENING. ALTHOUGH I AM THE PRIMARY USER OF THIS VEHICLE, MY WIFE REFUSES TO DRIVE THE CAR CALLING IT UNSAFE. TODAY 3.25.2014 I HAVE DROPPED OFF THE CAR AT THE DEALER FOR A RECALL AND I HAVE MENTIONED THE PROBLEM AGAIN, MY SERVICE ADVISER IS NOW TELLING ME THAT THIS RECALL (SOFTWARE UPDATE FOR MOTOR GENERATOR ECU AND POWER MANAGEMENT ECU) SHOULD TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM.) HE EXPLAINED THAT THEY ARE UPDATING THE SOFTWARE BRAKE STOP TECHNOLOGY. THE ABOVE RECALL LETTER EXPLAINS THE CONDITION THAT IS BEING REMEDIED AND DOES NOT TRANSLATED TO THE CONDITIONS THAT I AM COMPLAINING ABOUT. PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS SERIOUS ISSUE. *TR
BRAKING FOR UPCOMING TRAFFIC LIGHT AND WHEN WENT OVER A ROUGH SPOT IN ROAD, BRAKES TEMPORARILY FAILED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHEN THE CONTACT TRIED TO PULL DOWN THE VISOR, THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER SLIPPED OFF THE VISOR AND FELL INTO THE STEERING COLUMN. HE HAD NOT TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT DID HAVE AN APPOINTMENT. HE ALSO HAD NOT SPOKEN WITH THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,900. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 3,800.
MY 2010 PRIUS HAS EXPERIENCED THE BRAKING ISSUE WHEN GOING OVER A BUMP OR A POTHOLE. *TR
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS; WHEN SHIFTING INTO REVERSE IS SPORADICALLY DIFFICULT TO CONTROL ACCELERATION. LIFTING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE A TINY AMOUNT CAUSES THE CAR TO FEEL LIKE IT IS "SURGING" BACKWARD. THE CAR IS CONTROLLABLE, BUT IT IS A VERY DIFFERENT EXPERIENCE FROM BEING IN REVERSE MOST OF THE TIME. SHIFTING TO PARK AND BACK TO REVERSE SEEMS TO MAKE IT GO AWAY. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME 4 TIMES SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR IN AUGUST 2009. *TR
MY ISSUE IS SIMILAR TO OTHERS THAT HAVE COMPLAINED. WHEN TRAVELING A LOW SPEEDS AND I HIT AN UNEXPECTED BUMP THE VEHICLE SURGES FORWARD. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND ONE THAT I WOULD HOPE TOYOTA TAKE NOTICE AND ADDRESS IMMEDIATELY. *TR
WE BOUGHT OUR TOYOTA PRIUS, 2010 IN END OF JANUARY. IT HAS BEEN NOTHING BUT A GREAT CAR FOR THE MOST PART. BUT THREE DAYS AGO, FEBRUARY 11 AS WE WERE TURNING INTO THE PARKING LOT OF A BLOCKBUSTER (WHICH IS SOMEWHAT LOWER THAN THE STREET LEVEL) WE HAD A STARK AND UNUSUAL INCIDENT. AS I WAS TURNING RIGHT AND PUSHING THE BREAK PEDAL AS SOON AS THE CAR GOT WITH ITS RIGHT FRONT WHEEL OVER THE RIDGE THE CAR SPED UP AND LEAPED FORWARD AS IF I DID NOT USE THE BREAKS. THE CAR LAUNCHED GOOD THREE OR FOUR YARDS FORWARD BEFORE IT SLOWED DOWN AGAIN. IF WE HAD ANYBODY/ANYTHING WITHIN THAT DISTANCE WE WOULD HAVE HAD AN ACCIDENT. I AM NOT JUMPING ON THE BAND WAGON OF TOYOTA RECENT PROBLEMS AND IN FACT HAVE OWNED BEFORE THIS CARD PRIUS 2006 MODEL AND WAS HAPPY WITH THAT CAR. BUT THIS INCIDENT HAVE REALLY SCARED US RAISING QUESTION WHAT SHOULD WE DO TO INSURE IT DOES NOT HAPPEN AGAIN. CAN WE RETURN THE CAR OR CHANGE IT TO ANOTHER MODEL? *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 15 MPH FOUR TIMES WHEN SHE DROVE OVER A POTHOLE AND THE BRAKES WERE APPLIED, IT FELT AS IF THE VEHICLE LUNGED FORWARD. THE BRAKES ALWAYS FUNCTIONED NORMALLY ON EVEN ROAD SURFACES VS. AN UNEVEN SURFACE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2500. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2700.
2010 TOYOTA PRIUS GAVE ME IN TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS THE FEELING THAT THE BRAKE WAS NOT WORKING. IN BOTH CASES I WAS DRIVING SLOW AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON. IN ONE CASE I WAS BACKING UP FROM MY GARAGE; IN THE OTHER CASE I WAS TRANSITIONING FROM A SMALL DOWNHILL EXIT TO A FLAT STREET. *TR
WHILE APPLYING MODERATE PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES ON MY 2010 PRIUS AND WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMPY ROAD, THE BRAKES SEEM TO MOMENTARILY, BUT COMPLETELY FAIL. THEN THE CAR SEEMS TO BRIEFLY ACCELERATE (OR AT LEAST FREE-WHEEL) BEFORE THE BRAKES FEEL LIKE THEY'RE STARTING ENGAGE AND WORK AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPENED WITH THIS NEW CAR SINCE THE DAY I PURCHASED IT IN JULY OF 2009. IT DOES IT EVERY SINGLE DAY, AS I DRIVE OVER THE SPEED BUMP WHILE DRIVING OUT OF THE PARKING GARAGE NEAR MY WORK. *TR
(OWNER OF PRIUS), I BOUGHT PRIUS 2010 MODEL IN AUG'2009 FROM KOONS ARLINGTON TOYOTA IN ARLINGTON, VA, US. SINCE THEN I DO NOT HAVE ANY ISSUES UP UNTIL TODAY. WHEN I CAM OUT TODAY TO DRIVE ON 66 HIGHWAY AND ALSO TO GET ON TO WEST OX ROAD, I HAD RECALL COMPLAINTS WHAT WAS LISTED OCCURRED TO ME. 1) ABOVE 60 MILES SPEED WHEN I WAS TRAVELING AND TIME TO APPLY THE BRAKES, I COULDN'T STOP THE CAR IMMEDIATELY, IT TOOK 2-3 MIN. TO GET TO STOP AFTER TRAVELING SOME DISTANCE THOUGH I DIDN'T SEE HOW FAR I HAD TO TRAVEL TOO. 2) OTHER INCIDENT HAPPEN ON SAME TRAVEL TIME ON WEST OX ROAD,I WAS APPROACHING A TRAFFIC LIGHT NEAR FOX MILL AT SPEED AROUND 12 - 15 MILES / HOUR - I COULDN'T STOP THE CAR, IT WAS ACCELERATING ONLY INSPITE ME APPLYING THE BRAKES. *TR
PRIUS 2010. BRAKE PROBLEM. I WAS APPLYING THE BRAKES AND THE CAR WAS SLOWING DOWN THEN AS I DROVE OVER A BUMP THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING AND THE CAR GAINED SPEED UNTIL THE BRAKES WORKED AGAIN. THIS OCCURRED A FEW TIMES BEFORE. TOYOTA HAS RECALLED PRIUS 2010 IN JAPAN FOR THIS PROBLEM. THEY NEED TO DO A RECALL HERE IN THE US. *TR

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED FOR THE RECALL ASSOCIATED WITH NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 10V039000, SERVICE BRAKES, AIR ANTILOCK CONTROL UNIT/MODULE. UPON RECEIVING THE VEHICLE HE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKES WHILE DRIVING OVER A BUMPY SURFACE. ONCE HE DROVE OVER THE BUMPY SERVICE THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. HE WAS FORCED TO APPLY PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES IN ORDER TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON FOUR OCCASIONS WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,102. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
MY 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS IS HAVING BRAKING PROBLEMS WHEN I APPLY THE BRAKES WHILE/AFTER HITTING A BUMP OR POTHOLE. FOR EXAMPLE, WHEN I APPROACH A STOP SIGN AND APPLY THE BRAKES WHILE HITTING A BUMP, THE CAR LURCHES FORWARD BRIEFLY (1-2 SECONDS) BEFORE THE BRAKES KICK IN. THE BRAKES WORK FINE WHEN NO BUMP IS ENCOUNTERED DURING BRAKING. I CAN REPEAT THIS FAILURE CONSISTENTLY WITH A BUMP IN MY NEIGHBORHOOD. NO FIX YET. *CN

SOON AFTER I GOT MY 2010 PRIUS IN AUGUST, I EXPERIENCED A BRAKING PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED ABOUT 8 MORE TIMES SO FAR. WHILE BRAKING AS I SLOWLY APPROACH A STOP SIGN OR LIGHT, IF I SIMULTANEOUSLY GO OVER A BUMP OR BREAK IN THE ROAD, THE CAR WILL LURCH FORWARD A COUPLE OF YARDS REQUIRING ME TO PUSH HARDER ON THE BRAKE WHICH THEN STOPS THE CAR. THIS PROBLEM HAS ALSO HAPPENED 2 TIMES IN THE LAST WEEK WHILE DRIVING SLOWLY AND THEN BRAKING WHEN I ENCOUNTER ICE ON THE ROAD. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME MY CAR HAS HIT A POTHOLE IN THE ROAD AND THE BRAKES STOPPED WORKING. THE FIRST TIME I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST ME, BUT THE SECOND TIME I REALIZED IT WAS REALLY HAPPENING AND SCARY. I WAS HEADED SOUTHBOUND ON ROWENA BLVD IN LOS ANGELES, WAS STARTING MY DECELERATION WHEN I HIT THIS POT HOLE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE ROAD. FOR ABOUT 2 SECONDS MY CAR STOPPED DECELERATING AND I COULD FEEL NO POWER ON THE BRAKE PADS, THEN SUDDENLY THE BRAKE POWER RETURNED. *TW
WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES OVER A BUMPY OR METALLIC SURFACE, THERE IS A UNCOMFORTABLE DELAY UNTIL THE BRAKES "KICK IN". THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR SOME TIME.
I WAS DRIVING ON PLEASANT GROVE BLVD IN ROSEVILLE CA WITH A SPEED OF 44 MPH. IT WAS ABOUT 7:16 PM. ON MY RIGHT A SAW A BLACK CAT ON THE CURB AHEAD OF MY WALKING, TRYING TO MAKE IT'S WAY ACROSS PLEASANT GROVE BLVD. I MADE AN EMERGENCY STOP (DIDN'T HAVE TO COME TO A COMPLETE STOP) NOT TO HIT THE CAT. I PUSHED THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH FULL FORCE IN ORDER TO STOP IN TIME. THERE WAS NO ONE BEHIND ME AT THE TIME HAPPILY. HOWEVER, I NOTICED THAT THE ABS SYSTEM DIDN'T KICK IN AND HENCE MY BRAKES BLOCKED SHORTLY DURING THE EMERGENCY STOP. IN LA I HAD THIS HAPPEN TWICE TO ME THAT THE ABS DIDN'T KICK IN AND MY WHEELS BLOCK. IT'S EASILY REPEATABLE BY MAKING A STOP THAT REQUIRES A SHORT DISTANCE TO STOP. HAPPILY THIS IS HARDLY EVER NECESSARY, BUT I DON'T FEEL SAFE DOING IT. I HAVE DRIVEN TWO TOYOTA COROLLAS, THEY NEVER HAD THIS ISSUE AND ALWAYS THE ABS WORKED GREAT. IN THE 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS, THIS DOESN'T WORK WELL. IN ADDITION TO THE BRAKING ISSUES ON THE HIGHWAY, THIS IS ANOTHER PROBLEM WITH THE PRIUS BRAKE. IT MAKES ME FEEL INSECURE ON THE ROAD WITH THE PRIUS AND I DON'T ENJOY DRIVING IT DUE TO THESE ISSUES. IT'S JUST NOT SAFE! *TW
WHILE DRIVING EASTBOUND ON MOORPARK STREET, APPROACHING DIXIE CANYON AVENUE, I BRAKED IN PREPARATION TO MAKE A RIGHT HAND TURN, AND THE BRAKES RELEASED WHEN I HIT A SMALL POT HOLE. THE BRAKES RE-ENGAGED APPROXIMATELY 1-2 SECONDS LATER. *CN
I SUFFERED A TEMPORARY LOSS OF BRAKING WHILE APPROACHING A TOLL BOOTH ON THE NEW JERSEY GARDEN STATE PARKWAY. THE LOSS OCCURED IMMEDIATELY AFTER HITTING A LARGE BUMP AS I WAS SLOWING TO PAY THE TOLL. SOON AFTER BRAKING RETURNED AND I WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE SLOWING AND DID NOT STRIKE ANYTHING. *CN
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 50-55 MPH ON A SNOW COVERED ROAD SURFACE, WHILE BRAKING THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SURGED FORWARD UNEXPECTEDLY. THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A DITCH. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED FOR THE INCIDENT AND THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO RESUME NORMAL OPERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR THE FRONT END DAMAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REQUESTED THAT THE VEHICLE NOT BE REPAIRED UNTIL A ENGINEER INSPECTED IT. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THIS TIME. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 11,000.
