EXPERIENCED WHAT APPEARS TO BE A COMMON MALFUNCTION OF THE ABS SYSTEM. WENT OVER A REGULAR ROAD BUMP ON A CITY STREET, NOTHING DRASTIC, WHILE BRAKING. IMMEDIATELY AFTER, THE TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE, AND ABS LIGHTS CAME ON SOLID. THERE WAS STILL SOME BRAKING AVAILABLE, BUT IT REQUIRED MUCH MORE FORCE AND PEDAL TRAVEL TO ACHIEVE THE SAME LEVEL OF BRAKING AS BEFORE. THIS COULD BE VERY DANGEROUS IF SOMEONE THEN NEEDED TO STOP SUDDENLY. I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE HOME. FOUND SOME FORUMS ON LINE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, WHICH APPEARS TO BE WIDESPREAD. USING A PAPERCLIP, I WAS ABLE TO 'RESET' THE SYSTEM, CLEARING THE WARNING LIGHTS AND REESTABLISHING ABS AND REGENERATIVE BRAKING...BUT ONLY FOR A SHORT WHILE. LATER IN THE DAY, THE SAME MALFUNCTION OCCURRED, WITH THE SAME WARNING LIGHTS APPEARING, LOSS OF ABS AND REGEN BRAKING.
SOMETHING STARTED BUZZING EVERY FEW SECONDS IN ENGINE COMPARTMENT TOWARD DRIVERS SIDE FIREWALL. AT SLOW SPEEDS, BRAKES PULSATED WITH UNEVEN BRAKING. AS TIME WENT ON, BUZZING WAS MORE FREQUENT. WARNING LIGHTS FLASHED ONCE BUT WENT OUT. AFTER THAT, WHEN PARKING CAR, THE BRAKES WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR AND I HIT ANOTHER CAR AT PARKING SPEEDS. DEALER SAYS 'BRAKE ACTUATOR PUMP' AND WILL COST NEARLY $3000 TO FIX. THIS PUMP ALSO WENT OUT ON MY 2005 PRIUS! BUT THAT WAS COVERED BY A 'HIDDEN' WARRANTY THAT I FOUND WHILE GOOGLING THE ISSUE. WOULD HAVE PAID FULL PRICE FOR THAT REPAIR IF I HAD NOT RUN ACROSS THAT TSB. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A BIG MONEY MAKER FOR TOYOTA FIXING THESE BUT IS A HUGE DANGER TO THE MANY DRIVERS THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OVER THE YEARS. PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. IT IS A RECURRING AND SUBSTANTIAL THREAT TO DRIVER SAFETY THAT MANY DRIVERS WILL OVERLOOK BECAUSE OF THE INFLATED COST OF THE PARTS. THANK YOU.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA PRIUS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND WAS UNABLE TO BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE INVERTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 18V684000 (HYBRID PROPULSION SYSTEM). THE MANUFACTURER AND DEALER WERE NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000.
BRAKE ACTUATOR WENT BAD AFTER RECENT (SERVICE APPT 1/26/19) INSTALL OF NEW 12 VOLT BATTERY AND SOFTWARE UPDATE DUE TO NHTSA RECALL #18V-684. WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY ON 1/30/19 LIGHTS CAME ON FOR BRAKE, ABS AND SKID CONTROL. VEHICLE WAS NOT BRAKING AT THE TIME. CONDITION CAUSED REDUCTION OF BRAKE CONTROL. THE NEXT DAY WHILE AGAIN TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY AT HIGHWAY SPEED TO TOYOTA DEALER FOR SERVICE, THE LIGHTS WENT OFF AND BRAKES WORKED PROPERLY. SERVICE WAS NOT ABLE TO RESET CODE AND I WAS TOLD THAT MEANS THE BRAKE ACTUATOR NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. I WAS QUOTED $3,400 FOR REPAIR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WAS LOOSE AND DID NOT HAVE ANY TENSION. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO GERMAIN TOYOTA OF NAPLES (13315 TAMIAMI TRAIL N, NAPLES, FL 34110, (239) 301-3156) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE SEAT BELT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT WAS NOT ABLE TO ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 129,000.
WE HAVE HAD MULTIPLE LOW BEAM BULB FAILURES. USUALLY IT STARTS WITH 1 THE BURNS OUT THE OTHER WITHIN A WEEK OR TWO. IN THE LAST YEAR WE HAVE REPLACED BOTH BULBS 3 TIMES. THE LAST TIME WAS FEBRUARY 24TH LAST NIGHT ON MARCH 11TH WE RECEIVED A WARNING TICKET FOR A HEADLIGHT OUT. I WENT TO REPLACE THE BULB AGAIN AND IT WAS GOOD, AFTER REMOVING IT I REINSTALLED AND IT WORKED. SHUT THE CAR OFF AND CAME BACK OUT AND IT WOULDN'T COME ON AGAIN WITHOUT DISCONNECTING THE HARNESS AND PLUGGING IT BACK IN. THERE IS NOTICEABLE DISCOLORATION ON BOTH HEADLIGHT PLUGS.
A LOT OF LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE DASH. THE REGENERATIVE BRAKING QUIT WORKING AND THE BRAKE PADS WORE OUT REALLY QUICK.

THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
THE CAR BURNS OIL FOR NOT REASON. BETWEEN OIL CHANGES I WILL GO THROUGH 2 QUARTS OF OIL THAT I HAVE TO ADD. OTHER PRIUS OWNERS HAVE THE SAME ISSUES. I ONLY HAVE 120,000 MILES ON IT.
TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A RECALL WITH NO REMEDY. THEY SAY THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THE CAR COULD STALL AT HIGH SPEEDS AND INCREASE THE LIKELIHOOD OF A CRASH. I HAVE SMALL CHILDREN AND PLAN TO TRAVEL OVER THE HOLIDAYS. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THIS CAR. WE HAVE FOLLOWED THE PREVIOUS RECALL NOTICES.
THE ENGINE TERRIBLY SHAKES AND GOT A LOUD KNOCKING NOISE DURING AN INITIAL STATIONARY COLD START IN THE MORNING DURING WINTER. IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES THIS DECEMBER 2017.

THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.
CAR STALLS OUT AND WON'T ACCELERATE
ENGINE RATTLE/KNOCKING NOISE ON FIRST MORNING START UP ON OCCASION. CAR IS PARKED OUTSIDE IN A DRIVEWAY IN LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA. PREVIOUS DATES UNKNOWN (MAYBE HAPPENED 4 OTHER TIMES). LOG STARTED 11/26/18 SINCE THE NOISE WAS REALLY BAD THAT DAY. 11/26/18 AT 6 A.M. CAR SAT IN DRIVEWAY FOR 2 DAYS. THE NOISE WAS REALLY BAD, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. THE NEXT DAY THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AUTOMATICALLY CAME OFF. 1/22/19 AT 6 A.M. CAR SAT IN DRIVEWAY FOR 2 DAYS. THE NOISE WAS BAD BUT NOT AS BAD AS 11/26/18. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. 2/1/19 AT 6 A.M. CAR SAT IN DRIVEWAY OVERNIGHT. SLIGHT NOISE. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT DID NOT COME ON. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL OTHER COMPLAINTS ONLINE. SOME HAVE SAID ITS THE INTAKE MANIFOLD. THE DEALER HAS REQUESTED I TAKE MY CAR IN FOR THE RECALL (RECALL NO. 18V684) TO SEE IF IT FIXES THE PROBLEM BUT I'M GOING TO REQUEST THEY DIG INTO THIS FURTHER. I HAVE APPROXIMATELY 92,000 MILES.
I RECEIVED THE RECALL NOTICE AND TO PREVENT AN ACCIDENT, I HAVE NOT BEEN DRIVING MY CAR. MY NEAREST DEALSHIP, WHOM I HAVE UTILIZED OFTEN, NOW ARE DISCRIMINATING BY STATING FALSE PERSONAL STATEMENTS AGAINST ME. THIS MAY BE GENDER, AGE OR RACIST BASED. SO I NEED SUPPORT TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED & HAVE HAMER TOYOTA FAIRLY & PROFESSIONALLY COMPLETE THE SAFETY RECALL REPAIRS. I HAVE BEEN AT THE DEALSHIP AND ON THE PHONE WITH ALL LEVELS OF EMPLOYEES WHO HAVE BELITTLED, MADE FALSE STATEMENTS AND/ OR JUST PLAIN INHUMANE WITH NO REMEDY FOR MY 2013 TOYOTA PRIUS.
I WAS DRIVING DOWN A CITY ROAD AT 25-30 MPH AT DUSK (5:15PM), AND WITH MY HEADLIGHTS ON. THE FIRST INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WAS THE SMELL OF BURNING RUBBER WHEN I TURNED ON THE HEATER. ASSUMING THE PROBLEM WAS WITH ANOTHER VEHICLE AHEAD OF ME, I TURNED OFF THE HEATER AND KEPT DRIVING. A MILE LATER, AS I WAS NEARING MY DESTINATION, I NOTICED SEVERAL WARNING LIGHTS TURN ON (SKID LIGHT AND EXCLAMATION MARK LIGHT) AND THE STEERING BECAME LESS RESPONSIVE. I THEN SAW SMOKE EMITTING FROM UNDER MY HOOD. A FEW SECONDS LATER, THE FRONT PASSENGER-SIDE CORNER OF THE CAR BURST INTO FLAMES. I MANAGED TO PULL OVER, WOKE UP MY TWO YOUNG CHILDREN FROM THEIR CAR SEATS, AND GOT EVERYONE OUT. WITHIN A MINUTE, THE ENTIRE HOOD WAS ABLAZE. GIVEN WHERE THE FIRE STARTED, I SUSPECT THE HEADLIGHT. I REPLACED IT THE DAY BEFORE. THE LIGHT SEEMED TO WORK FINE FOR 1 DAY, BUT IT IS SUSPICIOUS THAT IS ALSO THE AREA WHERE THE FIRE STARTED.
SUDDENLY THE ABS, BRAKE AND THE TRACTION LIGHT CAME ON AND WILL GO WAY AFTER 20MIN. WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON THERE'S NO WARNING SO YOU MIGHT GET AN ACCIDENT WITHOUT BEING PREPARED FOR WORDS AS IS SO DANGEROUS TO HAVE SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE CAR LIKE THIS.
SUN ROOF EXPLODED / SHATTERED WHILE DRIVING ON THE FWY. AT 70 MPH. NO TRAFFIC AROUND, CLEAR DAY ABOUT 70 DEG F. AFTER HEARING THE EXPLOSION, I PULLED OVER AND FOUND THE GLASS HAD SHATTERED AND IT APPEARED THAT IT WAS CAUSED BY PRESSURE FROM INSIDE AS THE SHAPE OF THE SHATTERED GLASS WAS BOWED OUTWARDLY. NO APPARENT IMPACT FROM ANY FOREIGN OBJECT.
MY VEHICLE MAY NOT ENTER A FAILSAFE DRIVING MODE AS INTENDED. VEHICLE COULD LOSE POWER AND STALL ON A FREEWAY WHERE HIGHER SPEED WILL TAKE PLACE. THIS IS DANGEROUS AND MAY CAUSE A FATALITY. I AM CONCERN ABOUT THERE NOT BEING A REMEDY AS OF OCTOBER OF THIS YEAR.

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE RODE ROUGHLY, THE BATTERY WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED, AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000. VIN TOOL CONFIRMS PARTS NOT AVAILABLE.

WHILE DRIVING ON A SIDE ROAD ON 9/26/2018 I RECEIVED AN ALERT MESSAGE THAT SAID "CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM. STOP THE VEHICLE IN A SAFE PLACE." I PULLED THE VEHICLE OVER AND SHUT IT DOWN. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT START FOR A MINUTE BUT THEN STARTED AGAIN. I CALLED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I GET MY CAR SERVICED AND I ASKED THEM IF IT IS OKAY FOR ME TO DRIVE IT HOME SINCE I WAS 110 MILES AWAY. THEY TOLD ME IT WAS OKAY TO DRIVE AND I TOOK THE CAR TO THEM TO GET IT CHECKED OUT UPON GETTING BACK IN TOWN. THEY CONFIRMED THAT THE WARNING HAD COME ON, HOWEVER COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING TO FIX IT. SO THEY RESET THE ERROR MESSAGE AND RETURNED THE CAR TO ME. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR ON THE ROAD WITHOUT A FIX SINCE IT COULD STOP AT A HIGH SPEED AND CAUSE ME TO BE IN A CRASH. I AM SURPRISED HOW DOES TOYOTA HAVE A PROTOCOL TO LET USERS DRIVE A FAULTY CAR ON THE ROAD?
I WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TO GET AN OIL CHANGE AND THE CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY.
CAR WAS BEING DRIVEN ABOUT 15-20 MPH WHEN IT JUST STOPPED WITH A JOLT AS IF IT HAD BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND. CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. TOWED TO SHOP WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED AS BAD INVERTER.
VEHICLE LOSS POWER WHILE DRIVING RESIDENTIAL ROADS
2013 PRIUS 3 VEHICLE ALWAYS SERVICED AT TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, LAST SERVICE THEY RECOMMENDED FRONT BRAKE PADS REPLACEMENT, TIRES AND ALIGNMENT SO I DID . 7 MONTHS LATER DRIVING ALONG SMOOTH CITY ROAD ABS, TRACKING CONTROL, AND BRAKE LIGHTS COMES ON BRAKES FEEL HARDER TO DEPRESS AND NO GENERATIVE BRAKING. I HAD DIAGNOSTICS RUN FOR CODES AND CAME BACK (C1391 ABNORMAL LEAK IN ACCUMULATOR). RESEARCH FOUND THIS COMMON PROBLEM CRACK IN ACCUMULATOR DUE TO VIBRATION BUT FOUND NO RECALL ON IT.
AFTER DRIVING FOR APPROXIMATE 40 MILES ON FREEAY I WAS AT A STOP LIGHT AND WHEN ACCELERATING I HEARD A POPPING SOUND AND VEHICLE LOST POWER. WOULD NOT ACCLELERATE AND THE HYBRID/ABS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON,LUCKLY THIS HAPPEN ON A STRET AND NOT ON THE HIGHWAY. I PULLED OVER AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALER. THEY FOUND THAT THE IPM RESISTOR FOR THE INVERTER HAD FAILED. DEALER REPLACED IPM AND INVERTER.
LOW BEAM HEADLAMPS HAVE BEEN REPLACED BY ME 3 TIMES IN 80K MILES. I AM NOW AWARE THERE IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM AS THEY ARE AGAIN FAILING, AND I REPLACED THE BULBS OF BOTH JUST 2 WEEKS AGO. THERE IS NO WARNING, THEY JUST DON'T WORK. I NOTICE IT WHILE DRIVING AND CANNOT SEE WITHOUT BRIGHT HEADLIGHTS ON.
I NOTICED WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON A DRY CLEAR DAY TRACTION CONTROL/BRAKE LIGHT/ABS ILLUMINATED MY BRAKES BECAME EXTREMELY HARD TO PRESS AND COME TO A STOP ALSO MY CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT ENGAGE. THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH WOULD GO OFF AND THE CAR WOULD DRIVE NORMAL FOR A FEW DAYS. IT REPEATED THIS SCENARIO A FEW TIMES BEFORE THE TRACTION CONTROL/BRAKE LIGHT/ABS LIGHTS STAYED ON PERMANENTLY AS WELL AS THE CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT ENGAGE.
CAR WAS PARKED AND NOTICED THAT REAR BUMPER ON RIGHT CORNER WAS HANGING OFF SLIGHTLY, WITH CLIPS VISIBLE UNDERNEATH. WHEN PUSHING IT IN TO TRY AND REHINGE ONTO THE CLIPS, IT MOVED ANOTHER PART OF THE BUMPER. BUMPER VIEW FROM THE REAR IS NOT SHOWING ONE SIDE IS SAGGING.
I PUT THIS CAR INTO SERVICE JANUARY 1, 2014. I DROVE 150,000 MILES CHANGING MY OIL RELIGIOUSLY AS RECOMMENDED. I HAD NEVER BURNED A DROP OF OIL PRIOR TO THIS. THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN I STARTED BURNING A QUART EVERY 2000 MILES. AFTER LOOKING AT TOYOTA FORUMS THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM.
MY 2013 TOYOTA PRIUS OCCASIONALLY EXPERIENCES DELAYS IN ACCELERATION AND ABNORMAL HYBRID FUNCTION. THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING BECAUSE THERE ARE NO LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. CORPORATE TOYOTA DOESN'T SEEM TO CARE. I ASKED IF I HAD TO GET INTO AN ACCIDENT BEFORE THIS BECAME AN ISSUE. AN EXTRA SECOND OF UNEXPECTED INABILITY TO MOVE MY CAR CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IN MY OPINION. SO WHEN I PULL OUT OF A PARKING LOT ONTO A STREET WITH MY FOOT ON THE GAS PEDAL THERE WILL SOMETIMES AN ADDITIONAL SECOND OR SO BEFORE THE CAR STARTED TO MOVES AND AT A SLOWER THAN NORMAL PACE. I KNOW PRIUSES DON'T MOVE FAST BUT IT IS SILLY SLOW.
EXCESSIVE MOTOR OIL BURNING AT A RATE OF 2 QUARTS EVERY 5000 MILES. DEALER CLAIMS IS NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. DEALER CONFIRMS THAT THERE IS NO LEAKAGE.
AS A SAFETY PROFESSIONAL, I HAVE A SAFETY CONCERN ON THE INVERTER NOT OPERATING CORRECTLY AND PUTTING ME, MY FAMILY, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC IN HARMS WAY. I AM THEREFORE HOLDING NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION AND TOYOTA CORPORATION RESPONSIBLE HERE ON FORWARD. I AM DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN CALIFORNIA BUSY FREEWAYS.

WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO STOP THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO SWERVE AND VIBRATE. THE ECU SENSOR INDICATOR ILLUMINATED AND THE BRAKES FAILED. THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO IMMEDIATELY STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE EVENTUALLY STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN DIRECTLY TO ALLEN JAY TOYOTA (40 US HWY 27 NORTH, SEABRING, FL) WHO INITIALLY WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE. AFTER RETRIEVING THE VEHICLE, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ECU WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND NO SOLUTION WAS OFFERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000. *TT *JS
UNUSUAL LOUD CLICKING AND SCREECHING SOUND AS WELL AS VIBRATION FEELING UNDER THE BRAKE PEDAL WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL AND BRAKES DON'T FEEL POWERFUL ENOUGH DESPITE JUST GETTING NEW BRAKE PADS AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THERE IS MUCH LONGER DISTANCE NEEDED FOR BRAKING AND BRINGING TO A FULL STOP. THIS HAS PROGRESSIVELY INCREASED SINCE LAST NOTICED ABOUT 11-12 MONTHS AGO WHEN THE ODOMETER WAS AROUNT 95000 MILES. IT STARTED SPONTANEAOUSLY ON ITS OWN. THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT OR IMPACT OF ANY KIND.
CAR LITERALLY STOPPED ON THE ROAD. IT WAS TOWED TO TOYOTA OF RIVERSIDE, CA. SAW THERE HAD BEEN A RECALL THAT THE PROBLEM WAS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME. ASKED THE DEALER TO CHECK THE SOFTWARE AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. I WAS TOLD THAT APPLIED ONLY TO 2010-2012 VEHICLES, MINE IS A 2013. ASKED REPEATEDLY, REGARDLESS OF YEAR TO PLEASE CHECK THIS. I HAVE HUGE CONCERNS DRIVING THIS CAR AS IT LEFT ME COMPLETELY STOPPED AND STRANDED, HAD I BEEN ON THE FREEWAY, COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL. FIRST I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE HYBRID BATTERIES HAD GONE BAD. THEN THEY SAID IT WASN'T THE BATTERIES, IT WAS A FUSE FOR THE HYBRID BATTERY. EXPLAINED MY CONCERNS THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN IF IT TRULY WAS THE FUSE?? THEY SAID IT BECAME DISCONNECTED DUE TO VIBRATION. HOW DO YOU DRIVE AND NOT HAVE SOME VIBRATION? ASKED IF IT COULD HAPPEN AGAIN, THEY DIDN'T KNOW. ASKED REPEATEDLY TO CHECK THE SOFTWARE AS DESCRIBED IN THE RECALL. THEY SAID THEY HAD TOYOTA SAFETY INVOLVED AND THEY DID EVERYTHING THEY REQUESTED OF THEM. THIS DID NOT INCLUDE CHECKING THE SOFTWARE AS I REQUESTED, SO THEY WOULD NOT DO IT. I ENDED UP DEALING WITH THE MANAGER, DANNY BRIGGS, AND REQUESTED A COPY OF ALL THE ITEMS THAT HAD BEEN CHECKED AND DONE TO MY CAR. HE SAID HE WOULD HAVE THIS FOR ME. WHEN WE PICKED UP THE CAR, THIS WAS NOT GIVEN TO ME. MET WITH HIM, HE SAID THAT WAS ALL HE COULD DO. I TOLD HIM I WAS VERY UPSET, I FEEL LIKE I'M INVOLVED IN A TOTAL "COVER UP" SO THEY WOULDN'T HAVE TO RECALL THE 2013 PRIUS' ALSO. I WAS TOLD I COULD TRADE MY CAR IN THERE IF I DIDN'T FEEL IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE. I HAD ASKED THEM TO CHANGE THE OIL AND CHECK MY BRAKES, THEY DIDN'T DO IT. IT WAS LIKE THEY JUST WANTED TO GET ME OUT OF THERE AND NOT DEAL WITH IT. I HAVE NEVER CONTACTED YOUR AGENCY BEFORE, BUT FEEL THAT THIS COULD END UP KILLING SOMEONE IF NOT CHECKED INTO. THANK YOU.
CURRENTLY USING APPROXIMATELY 1 QUART OF OIL PER 2,000 MILES. THAT COMES OUT TO 5 QUARTS PER 10,000 MILE OIL CHANGE--WHICH IS MORE THAN THE 4.4 QUARTS THAT THE CAR HOLDS. NO DRIPS UNDER THE CAR. NO CLOUDS OF SMOKE OUT OF THE EXHAUST. THE OIL USAGE SLOWED DOWN, WHEN I TRIED USING CASTRIL FULL SYNTHETIC OIL--AT THE SUGGESTION OF A NEIGHBOR OF MINE, INSTEAD OF THE TOYOTA DEALER OIL AND MOBIL 1. IT IS A CONCERN, THAT THE EXHAUST SYSTEM MIGHT BE PLUGGING UP--DUE TO THIS OIL USE ISSUE. I HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 200,000. THE WARRANTY COMPANY TOLD ME TODAY, THAT, THEY WILL ONLY COVER INTERNAL ENGINE PART BREAKAGE, OR WHATEVER MY FACTORY WARRANTY WAS. THEY WILL NOT COVER THE CAUSE OF THE OIL USE, AND THEY WILL NOT COVER DAMAGE CAUSED BY LACK OF OIL. SO, I WAS TOLD, TO MAKE SURE I KEEP IT FULL OF OIL. TOYOTA SHOULD CONSIDER HOW THIS WILL AFFECT THEIR FUTURE BUSINESS. A BIG SALES POINT TO THE PRIUS IS, THAT, IT SHOULD LAST A REALLY LONG TIME. IT MAY LAST A LONG TIME, YET. I'LL KEEP ADDING OIL AND WE SHALL SEE. IN THE MEAN TIME, I PLAN TO GET A ROAD SIDE ASSISTANCE PACKAGE THAT INCLUDES TOWING....

I WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK. THE CAR WAS WORKING JUST FINE. ALL OF A SUDDEN I NOTICED SMOKE. I PUT MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS ON AND STARTED LOOKING FOR ANY SIGN OF TROUBLE. NO WARNING LIGHTS WHEN OFF ON THE DASH BOARD. ALL OF A SUDDEN A CAR PULLED UP NEXT TO ME AND TOLD ME GET OUT YOUR CAR IS ON FIRE! AT THAT POINT I STOPPED ON THE FREEWAY IN THE SECOND LANE AND RAN TO THE CENTER DIVIDER. THE CAR BURNED OUT.
2013 PRIUS V HAD A COLLISION WITH A MUSTANG CONVERIBLE. BOTH VEHICLES ARE TOTALED. THE MUSTANG'S AIRBAGS DEPLOYED. THE PRIUS'S AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE DRIVER HAS A SEVERE CONCUSSION. EMS APPARENTLY TOLD THE HOSPITAL THIS WAS THE SENDING ONE THEY HAD SEEN WHERE AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. THE HOSPITAL TOLD ME I NEEDED TO LOOK INTO AIRBAGS (3XS) BASED ON WHAT EMS SAID. WHEN I WENT TO TOYOTA THEY ASKED IF I WAS THE ONE THAT HAD CALLED A COUPLE OF DAYS PRIOR DUE TO AIRBAGS FAILING. (NO I HAD NOT CALLED.) SO, WAS EMS REFERRING TO A SECOND TOYOTA WHERE AIRBAGS HAD NOT DEPLOYED IN 2 DAYS? PLEASE LOOK AT PICTURES. THIS WAS A SERIOUS ACCIDENT. POLICE REPORT STATES BOTH VEHICLES DOING 35MPH. AGAIN, PRIUS AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY.
MY DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING THE CAR THIS MORNING AND THE ENGINE CUTOFF AND LOST ALL POWER ALONG WITH A MAINTENANCE REQUIRED LIGHT CAME ON. SHE TRIED TO ACCELERATE BUT IT WOULD NOT. A WARNING LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING LOW TIRE PRESSURE. I STOPPED IMMEDIATLY IN THE CLOSEST PARKING LOT. THE SIDEWALL ON MY GOODYEAR WEATHERHANDLER FUEL MAXX TIRES HAD SPLIT APART, ABOUT 12 INCHES TOTAL IN 3 SPOTS. THE CORDS OF THE SIDEWALL WERE SHOWING. THESE WERE 65,000 MILE TIRES PURCHASED JANUARY 2016. THEY HAD ABOUT 28,000 MILES ON THEM AT THE TIME THEY FAILED. I JUST FINISHED A 2500 MILE TRIP USING THE INTERSTATES. IF THEY FAILED THERE, IT WOULD HAVE KILLED US. GOD WAS WATCHING OVER US. THE TIRE WAS TOTALLY FLAT IN 5 MINUTES. THESE WERE PURCHASED FROM TIRE KINGDOM. AFTER GETTING THE SPARE ON, I DROVE THE 2 MILES TO THE STORE I PURCHASED THEM FROM. THEY EXPLAINED THEY NO LONGER HAD ANY STOCK, AS IT WAS A PURCHASE THEIR CHAIN MADE FROM SEARS WHEN THEY WENT OUT OF BUSINESS. I WAS UPSET THEY SOLD ME LEFT OVER TIRES. THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE THE FAILED TIRE, BUT I NEED SOMEONE TO REPLACE ALL OF THEM. THEY ARE A HAZARD. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE THE CAR. I WILL CONTACT THE MANUFACTURER AND SEE WHAT THEY WILL DO FOR ME.THE DATE CODE ON THE TIRES SHOW THEY WERE 2 1/2 YEARS OLD WHEN I PURCHASED THEM.

ENGINE WARNING LIGHT AT START UP CAME ON WITH NO DEGRADATION OF OPERATION. CAR WAS TAKEN TO ORIGINATING MANUFACTURE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. WHEN CAR WAS PURCHASED AS CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED THE SALES REP UPSOLD EXTENDED 3RD PARTY WARRANTY COVERAGE THAT THEY SAID 'WOULD COVER EVERYTHING INCLUDING DIAGNOSIS LABOR FEES.' WHEN VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED FROM DEALER SERVICE DEPT THEY SAID IT WAS FAULTY O2 SENSOR, CAUSED 'BY RODENT DAMAGE TO CABLE'. NO VALIDATION OR EVIDENCE OF THIS WAS PROVIDED; CABLE/PARTS NOT PRESENTED FOR INSPECTION TO CUSTOMER. CUSTOMER WAS TOLD LACK OF SENSOR WOULD RESULT IN REDUCED GAS MILAGE. CUSTOMER ASKED ABOUT SAFETY OF VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD VEHICLE WAS SAFE TO DRIVE WITHOUT PART REPAIR. CUSTOMER ASKED IF REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT. CUSTOMER DECLINED REPAIR AT THAT TIME; CUSTOMER WAS FORCED TO PAY ~$150 LABOR CHARGE FOR INSPECTION. CUSTOMER RETURNED AT A LATE TIME TO COMPLETE REPAIR. AGAIN NO EVIDENCE OF PART FAILURE WAS PRESENTED AND REPAIR COST ~$400 WAS FORCED TO BE PAID. CUSTOMER THEN FOUND EXTENDED WARRANTY COVERAGE DOCUMENTS AND CALLED THEM TO ASK WHY REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED AS PROGRAM DOCUMENTATION AND CONTRACT SEEMED TO INCLUDE COVERAGE OF THIS ISSUE; PROVIDER NOTED THAT DEALER DID NOT CALL TO AUTHORIZE REPAIR AT NO COST TO CUSTOMER AND CUSTOMER SHOULD SUBMIT PAPERWORK TO PROVIDER FOR REVIEW. CUSTOMER FURTHER RESEARCHED ON INTERNET THE ISSUE AND FOUND MULTIPLE REPORTS OF FAULTY WIRING AND IS CONCERNED FOR SAFETY OF OPERATION DUE TO MANUFACTURE MATERIAL FLAWS THAT ALLOW ANIMAL DAMAGE TO CRITICAL WIRING OF CAR.
ON JAN 2, 2017, I ATTEMPTED TO START MY 2013 TOYOTA PRIUS. THE VEHICLE DASH HAD THE FOLLOWING WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED, CHECK HYBRID, ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING WARNING, BRAKE WARNING LIGHT AND THE MASTER WARNING LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT SHIFT INTO DRIVE OR REVERSE AND WOULD ONLY DEFAULT TO THE NEUTRAL POSITION. UPON OPENING THE HOOD OF THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT I NOTICED THE WIRING TO THE HYBRID INVERTER HAD BEEN EXTENSIVELY DAMAGED (CHEWED, GNAWED) TO THE EXTENT THAT THE PHYSICAL WIRES WERE TOUCHING EACH OTHER AND POSSIBLY SHORTING OR GROUNDING TO EACH OTHER. MY VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO STEVENSON TOYOTA WEST LOCATED AT 780 INDIANA ST, LAKEWOOD, CO. ON JAN 3, 2017. ON JAN 4, 2017 I WAS CONTACTED BY SERVICE ADVISOR MIKE HASHMAN WHO TOLD ME THE DAMAGE WAS CAUSED BY A RODENT(S) CHEWING ON THE WIRING. THE DAMAGE WAS AS FOLLOWS: HV INVERTOR WIRES (2) WERE DAMAGED, A/C COMPRESSOR HV WIRE WAS DAMAGED, INVERTOR COOLANT TANK WERE ALL REPLACED BECAUSE OR EXTENSIVE DAMAGE. ALONG WITH INVERTOR COOLANT AND LABOR THE TOTAL COST OF THE REPAIR WAS $1,279.63. WE HAVE A $1,000.00 DEDUCTIBLE POLICY SO OUR TOTAL COST WAS THE DEDUCTIBLE. I HAVE SINCE DISCOVERED THAT TOYOTA HAS BEEN, SINCE APPROXIMATELY 2009 THROUGH 2016 AND POSSIBLY 2017, BEEN USING SOY BASED WIRING COVERING AND CABLE WRAP WHICH IS VERY ATTRACTIVE TO RODENTS. IN OUR CASE THE RODENT WOULD BE BROWN SQUIRRELS. I HAVE ALSO FOUND A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT FILED ON JAN. 6, 2017, IN THE US DISTRICT COURT FOR THE WESTERN DISTRICT OF WASHINGTON, ALLEGING TOYOTA HAS KNOWN OF THE PROBLEM BUT HAS REFUSED STEADFASTLY REFUSED TO ACCEPT RESPONSIBILITY. MY CONCERN IS HAD THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURE OF THE ELECTRONICS OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING THE CONSEQUENCES COULD HAVE BEEN FATAL TO MYSELF, PASSENGERS AND OTHERS OCCUPYING VEHICLES NEXT TO OR NEAR ME BECAUSE OF THE POWER STEERING AND BRAKE ERRORS. THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY.

RODENTS ARE ENTERING THE CABIN OF MY PRIUS VIA THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND CHEWING THROUGH THE FOAM FLAPPER VENT JUST ABOVE THE CABIN FILTER AND ENTERING THE MAIN CABIN AREA TO RAISE HAVOC. I DISCOVERED ON MORE THAN ONE OCCASION RODENT DROPPINGS IN MY GLOVE BOX AND FLOOR BOARD. THIS IS OCCURRING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME SINCE I DRIVE THE VEHICLE DAILY. I DON'T LEAVE FOOD IN THE VEHICLE, SO THE RODENTS ARE ATTRACTED TO THE VEHICLE ITSELF. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CLAIMS TO BE UNAWARE OF THIS PROBLEM ALTHOUGH I CAN SEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND FIND MULTIPLE INSTANCES OF SIMILAR RODENT ACTIVITY IN TOYOTA VEHICLES.
