2006 TOYOTA RAV 4 SPORT HAS CHRONIC PROBLEMS WITH INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT. LOW SPEED TURNING PRODUCES A CLUNKING SOUND AND UNSTABLE SENSATION IN THE STEERING COLUMN. *KB
AFTER CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR SERVICE AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS FAULTY IGNITION COIL. THIS ALL STARTED WHEN I NEGLECTED CLOSE THE GAS CAP ALL THE WAY ABOUT A WEEK BEFORE. AT THAT TIME I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID TO TIGHTEN IT AND THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. IT DID FOR AWHILE BUT SOON STARTED A SERIES OF EVENTS THAT ENDED UP WITH THE COIL "D" HAVING TO BE REPLACED. *TT
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE STEERING WHEEL WOULD EXHIBIT AN ABNORMAL CLICKING SOUND WHEN TURNED. THE FAILURE RECURRED WHENEVER THE STEERING WHEEL WAS TURNED. THE DEALER INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 29,000.
A WARNING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD INDICATING AN AIRBAG MALFUNCTION. I CALLED TOYOTA SERVICE AND WAS TOLD THE CAR REQUIRED A REPAIR, AND THE AIRBAGS WOULD NOT FUNCTION AT ALL UNTIL THIS REPAIR WAS DONE. TODAY THE TOYOTA TECH TOLD US A "SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY HAD GONE BAD." HE SAID IT WILL COST $514.00 TO MAKE THIS REPAIR, AND AGAIN, THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT WORK UNLESS IT IS DONE. I ASKED IF THIS WAS A RECALL ISSUE WITH TOYOTA AND THE SERVICE MANAGER REPLIED, "I HAVE NO IDEA." I ASKED IF THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR AND HE REPLIED, "WE SEE IT ALL THE TIME IN RAV3'S AND TUNDRA'S." I INDICATED THE CAR IS ONLY 5 YEARS OLD WITH JUST OVER 60K MILES, AND THAT I HAVE NEVER (EVER) HAD AN AIRBAG FAILURE IN ANY VEHICLE UNTIL NOW. HE AGAIN SAID, "WELL, WE SEE IT ALL THE TIME WITH THIS MODEL." THIS SURELY APPEARS TO BE A DESIGN FLAW THAT IS VERY COSTLY TO AN AVERAGE CONSUMER. CAN THEY GET AWAY WITH THIS? PLEASE HELP! ENGINE COIL FAILURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS, WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL DURING ALL OF THE FAILURES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT AN IGNITION COIL FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE, BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 52,056. UPDATED 08/31/11 *BF UPDATED 09/14/11
I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA RAV 4 WITH STEERING SHAFT ISSUES. THE SHAFT MAKES GRINDING/KNOCKING NOISES WHEN TURNING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALERSHIP NOTIFIED ME OF THIS ISSUE AND STATED THAT I SHOULD REPLACE THE SHAFT. I ARGUED THAT TOYOTA SHOULD COVER THE COSTS, BUT THEY WOULD NOT CONCUR. I STARTED RESEARCHING THE ISSUE ONLINE AND DISCOVERED A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE. THEY HAVE EVEN ALREADY DEVELOPED A NEW INTERMEDIATE SHAFT TO CORRECT THE ISSUE. IT IS CLEAR THAT THEY RECOGNIZE THIS AS A DESIGN/ENGINEERING ISSUE. FURTHERMORE, THIS DEFECT COULD EVENTUALLY LEAD TO THE VEHICLE NOT BEING ABLE TO STEER, WHICH IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IN MY OPINION, MERITS A RECALL. *TR
2006 TOYOTA RAV 4 - STEERING - I HAVE PRESENTED MY VEHICLE FOR INSPECTION AT A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER SERVICE COMPANY LAST WEEK ON TUESDAY, JULY 5TH, 2011 FOR A NOTICEABLE "CLUNKING" SOUND COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN AND FRONT END. THE SERVICE MANAGER SCHEDULED A 2ND VISIT FOR MY VEHICLE ON JULY 7TH, IN ORDER FOR A SERVICE MECHANIC TO TEST DRIVE THE CAR. HE FIRST TOLD ME THAT THE UNIT WOULD NEED TO BE "OPENED" AND RE-PACKED WITH GREASE TO MAKE THE NOISE GO AWAY (WITHOUT BATTING AN EYE). ON THE SECOND SERVICE VISIT JULY 7TH, THE MECHANIC SAID THE UNIT WOULD REQUIRE A REBUILDING WITH AT LEAST $ 400.00 OF PARTS. THIS IS THE CASE AFTER I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN WITH 43K ORIGINAL MILES ON IT. AFTER I HAD A THIRD PARTY LOOK AT THE SAME ISSUE, THEY SAID THAT IT DID NOT PRESENT A DANGER, HOWEVER, NEW TIRES AND A FRONT END ALIGNMENT WERE SUGGESTED TO SEE WHETHER ANY IMPROVEMENT WOULD BE NOTICEABLE.. AFTERWARDS, I STARTED MY INVESTIGATION OF THIS MATTER, WHEREBY, I NOW KNOW THAT HUNDREDS OF CASES HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY REPORTED, AND, THE MANUFACTURER, TOYOTA, HAS "PASSED THE BUCK" ON THE BLAME AND REPAIR, CHARGING AS MUCH AS $ 1,200 FOR THE STEERING ON THE 2006 RAV 4 MODEL TO BE REPAIRED. SOUNDS LIKE A "SCAM" TO ME. JUST BECAUSE NO ONE HAS GOTTEN HURT YET, DOESN'T MEAN THERE ISN'T A PROBLEM HERE. CARS ARE CONTROLLED THROUGH THE ABILITY TO "STEER" THE VEHICLE. IN OCTOBER 1976, I SURVIVED AN ACCIDENT IN MY BRAND NEW FORD GRANADA, WHEN THE "SUSPENSION ARM" NUT WAS SHEERED OFF WHEN TAKING A CURVE ON A LOCAL ROAD WITH THE VEHICLE AT 20-25 MPH. THREE PEOPLE WALKED AWAY FROM AN ACCIDENT THAT TOOK OUT THE WHOLE FRONT BUMPER, BACK TO THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. AS THE CAR WAS REPAIRED, FORD MOTOR CORP. GATHERED ALL OF THE ACCIDENT PHOTOS FROM THE BODY SHOP, PREVENTING DISCLOSURE OF A POTENTIAL PROBLEM (BACK BEFORE THE "LEMON LAWS" WERE PUT IN PLACE). DO NOT LET THIS PROBLEM SLIP AWAY. BRAKE MASTER CYLINDER FAILURE ON A WELL MAINTAINED SUV. *TR
2006 TOYOTA RAV-4. CONSUMER STATES BRAKE ACCELERATOR PROBLEM *TGW THE CONSUMER DURING SUDDEN BRAKE STOPS, THERE WERE TIMES WHEN HE ENGAGED THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PEDALS WERE DESIGNED TOO CLOSE TOGETHER. *JB
2006 TOYOTA RAV 4. CONSUMER STATES IGNITION COIL AND PLUG FAILURE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, VARIOUS DASHBOARD LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE TRANSMISSION SHIMMIED AND THE ENGINE MISFIRED AND THE VEHICLE BECAME DISABLED. AN INSPECTION BY THE DEALER REVEALED A MISFIRE CODE AND THAT A NUMBER TWO COIL AND PLUG HAD TO BE REPLACED. A MONTH AND A HALF LATER, THE CONSUMER EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM AGAIN. IT WAS DETERMINED THAT ANOTHER IGNITION COIL HAD FAILED AND THE SUV WAS OPERATING IN FOUR CYLINDER MODE. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED HIS MODEL VEHICLE HAD A DESIGN/ENGINEERING PROBLEM WHICH WAS IDENTIFIED AND DOES NOT OCCUR ON SUBSEQUENT YEAR RAV 4 MODELS. *JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ROUTINE SERVICING, A SERVICE MECHANIC AT THE DEALER NOTICED AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS DIAGNOSED AND THE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS PENDING A DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000.
I TOOK MY 2006 RAV4 INTO THE LEITH TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN RALEIGH, NC FOR THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL RECALL. SERVICE MANAGER CALLS ME AND SAID THAT THERE IS A BANGING VIBRATION AND NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHEN THE STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED. (THIS DID NOT EXIST BEFORE.) THE MANAGER SAID THERE IS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON THE MANUFACTURERS DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND THAT FAILURE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT. THIS REPAIR IS NEARLY $400 AND IS NOT COVERED UNDER ANY RECALL NOR MY NOW EXPIRED WARRANTY. WHEN I NEXT DROVE THE RAV4 THE BANGING WAS SO STRONG THAT THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER COULD FEEL IT. I CALL TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE PROGRAM, WHO CONFIRMED THE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN BUT SAID THAT THE PROBLEM IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE AND THAT I SHOULD CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP TO INQUIRE ABOUT THEM PAYING FOR THE REPAIR. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE REPAIR IS NOT COVERED AND THAT TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE WOULD CONTACT ME AS TO WHAT FURTHER WOULD BE DONE. AFTER WAITING MORE THAN 60 DAYS FOR TOYOTA TO CALL ME, I CALLED CUSTOMER CARE AGAIN ONLY TO BE TOLD THAT NOTHING MORE WOULD BE DONE. I ASKED TO SPEAK TO A SUPERVISOR, BUT NONE WAS AVAILABLE. I WAS TOLD THAT A SUPERVISOR WOULD CALL ME BACK WITHIN 24 HOURS. 30 HOURS LATER TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE LEFT A PHONE MESSAGE FOR ME TO CALL THEM BACK. I HAVE ALSO HAD ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS THAT HAVE CAUSED THIS RAV4 TO LOOSE POWER AND STOP WHILE TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD AND THE BATTERY GOES DEAD ABOUT EVERY TWO MONTHS. *TR

STEERING COLUMN ON TOYOTA 2006 RAV 4 SHOWING SIGNS OF BAD U-JOINT/THRUST COLLAR BEARING. CAR HAS 43,000 MILES AND MAKES LOUD CLUNKING NOISE FROM STEERING COLUMN WHEN TURNING. TOYOTA HAS A TSB BUT SAYS IT IS NOT YET A SAFETY ISSUE SO NO REFUND AND NO PRICE CUT ON $500 REPAIR. IF STEERING COLUMN U-JOINT FAILS WHAT HAPPENS TO STEERING??? *TR
TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER FOR OIL CHANGE, VEHICLE IS NOW OUT OF WARRANTY AT 78,000 MILES AND THEY FOUND A ENGINE COOLANT LEAK AT THE REAR OF ENGINE AND THEY CLAIM ENGINE MAY HAVE TO BE REPLACED. HAVE HAD NO INDICATIONS OF ANY PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE, NO OVERHEATING, NOTHING. ESTIMATED COST OF ENGINE THAT MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED IS $8,000 THAT DEALER CLAIMS TOYOTA WILL PAY HALF. I HAVE SERVICE RECORDS SHOWING THAT I COMPLAINED OF A SMELL OF COOLANT AT 4,000 MILES AND THE DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS UNDERCOATING BURNING OFF. SAYS THAT THE COMPLAINT AT 4,000 MILES IS NO WAY RELATED TO MY CURRENT PROBLEM AND WILL NOT HONOR MY ORIGINAL COMPLAINT AS ANYTHING RELATED TO NEW ISSUE. I HAVE SEEN THE AREA OF MY VEHICLE WHERE THE COOLANT IS LEAKING AND IT IS AT THE VERY SAME SPOT THAT OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES ARE HAVING ISSUE WITH THE BOLTS CORRODING DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND LEAKING COOLANT. TOOK TO ANOTHER MECHANIC FOR SECOND OPINION AND HE SAYS VEHICLE IS IN MINT CONDITION AND SHOULD NOT HAVE THIS TYPE OF PROBLEM AT ALL. WHY IS TOYOTA WILLING TO PAY 50% IF THERE IS NOT A LEGITIMATE PROBLEM? *TR
I OWN A 2006 RAV4 V6. AT ROUGHLY 60,000 MILES THE ENGINE, VSC AND 4WD LIGHT WOULD START GOING ON AND THEN OFF AFTER SHUTTING DOWN. THE DEALER SAID IT WAS PROBABLY THE GAS CAP AFTER FILLING UP NOT BEING TIGHT. AT 64,000 MILES THE LIGHTS WENT ON AND STAYED ON. BECAUSE MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IS WORTHLESS, I WENT TO A TRUSTED MECHANIC. THE CODES SHOWED A BAD COIL IN THE #2 CYLINDER SO I REPLACED IT. THEY SUGGESTED THAT THESE COILS HAVE BEEN KNOWN TO BE BAD AND THAT I SHOULD REPLACE ALL OF THEM. I DIDN'T WANT TO DROP $1300 AT THE TIME AND NOW AT 70,000 THE LIGHTS ARE ON AGAIN AND THE CODES ARE SHOWING ALL 6 COILS ARE BAD AGAIN. HOW IS IT THAT A CAR THAT IS SUPPOSED TO BE ABLE TO GO 100,000 MILES BEFORE YOU EVEN NEED TO CHANGE THE PLUGS HAS ALL THE COILS GO BAD AT THE SAME TIME. THERE ARE WEB SITES FOR RAV4 OWNERS ALL OVER THE INTERNET COMPLAINING OF THE SAME THING AND TOYOTA HAS DONE NOTHING. *TR
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, VSC AND SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON AT 71000 MILES. CRUISE CONTROL STOPPED WORKING, CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER EVERY FEW MINUTES, FEELING LIKE IT WAS GOING TO STALL. DEALER SAID IT WAS OK TO DRIVE UNLESS LIGHTS WERE BLINKING, WHICH THEY WERE NOT. TOOK IT TO ADVANCED AUTOCARE WHO TOLD ME 4 PISTONS WERE REGISTERING AS MISFIRING. TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHO CHECKED IT OUT, STATING THAT THE ONLY THING WRONG WAS A COIL WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BARELY AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT WHILE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING! TOYOTA IS SAYING IT'S NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND IS NORMAL FOR THIS TO HAPPEN. THIS IS THE LATEST OF ISSUES WITH THIS CAR! DOOR SEALS NOT WORKING PROPERLY AND HAD TO REPLACE THE BACK DOOR SEAL AFTER STANDING WATER WAS FOUND IN THE BACK AFTER IT RAINED. *TR
MY 2006 TOYOTA RAV4 LIMITED EDITION, I HEARD A CLUNKING NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT STEERING COLUMN EACH TIME I TURNED THE WHEEL RIGHT OR LEFT. THE NOISE OCCURS ONLY WHEN YOU TURN THE STEERING AND IT IS A CLUNKING NOISE ALONG WITH A VIBRATION IN THE STEERING WHEN YOU TURN THE WHEEL. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM AND WHEN I BROUGHT IT UP WITH THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THE ATTENDANT SAID THAT IT WASN'T AN ISSUE. THE PROBLEM ISN'T GOING AWAY AND THE NOISE AND CLUNKY FEELING WHEN TURNING STEERING HAS BEEN INCREASING. THE PROBLEM STARTED WHEN THE CAR WAS ABOUT 40K MILES (OUT OF WARRANTY @ 36K). FEW MECHANICS FROM OTHER PLACES LOOKED AT IT AND SAID IT NEED TO BE FIXED ASAP. I READ BLOGS AND NOTICED MANY OF THESE VEHICLE HAVE SIMILAR ISSUES. I HOPE TOYOTA WON'T WAIT UNTIL AN ACCIDENT HAPPEN BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH THE CAR SUDDENLY WOULD NOT AND BEHAVED AS IF IN NEUTRAL. THE ENGINE REVED UPON APPLYING THE GAS. WE PULLED OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND PUT ON HAZARD LIGHTS AND PUT THE CAR IN PARK. THEN PUT THE CAR BACK IN DRIVE AND THE CAR BEHAVED NORMALLY.
ENGINE COIL FAILURE. MY RESEARCH TELLS ME THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THESE 3.5L V6 ENGINES. ERROR CODE P0352. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THE VAPOR CANISTER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VAPOR CANISTER WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR REMOVING HARMFUL FUMES FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT EXPRESSED CONCERN OVER THE HARMFUL FUMES PRESENTING A FIRE HAZARD. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
TOYOTA RAV4 MAKES POPPING AND CLUNKING NOISE WHEN STEERING WHEEL IS TURNED. THIS IS DUE TO LOOSENESS IN THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SPLINES AND JOINTS (TOTAL COST:$468; PART NUMBERS 45221-42071 [STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT] AND 45260-42090 [STEERING SHAFT ASSEMBLY]). THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO ISSUE A RECALL. IT IS A PRODUCT DEFECT IN STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AS EVIDENT BY THE TSB ISSUED BY TOYOTA. *TR
I HAVE 2006 RAV4 WITH STEERING CLUNKING NOISE. I SPOKE WITH MY LOCAL DEALER IN ATLANTIC CITY NJ AND HE TOLD ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM BUT THERE IS NOT RECALL. I HAVE TO PAY OUT OF MY POCKET FOR SOMETHING WHAT IS FACTORY PROBLEM. I THINK TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND SHOULD ALSO INITIATE A RECALL FOR THE STEERING PROBLEMS. *TR
LAST NIGHT WHILE DRIVING WITH MY YOUNG DAUGHTER ON A LONELY HIGHWAY WITH NO CELL SERVICE, MY 2006 TOYOTA RAV 4 V6 LIMITED STARTED MAKING A NOISE. I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED MY DASH AND NO LIGHTS WERE ON, PRESSURES OKAY. THE NOISE STOPPED AND I KEPT DRIVING. ABOUT TWELVE MILES FROM HOME THE NOISE STARTED AGAIN AND MY DAUGHTER NOTICED. I LOOKED DOWN AND MY OIL PRESSURE LIGHT FLASHED ON AND RIGHT BACK OFF. WE BARELY MADE IT TO OUR HOUSE. WHEN I GOT OUT AND LOOKED UNDER THE CAR, OIL WAS EVERYWHERE. IT HAD RAN ALL THE WAY TO THE BACK OF THE CAR. WHEN I PULLED THE DIP STICK THERE WAS NO OIL ON THE STICK. MY HUSBAND CHECKED IT TODAY AND FOUND A HOLE IN A RUBBER HOSE. I WENT ON-LINE AND HAVE READ HUNDREDS OF SIMILAR STORIES. SUPPOSEDLY, TOYOTA WAS TO SEND OUT A LETTER IN OCTOBER 2009 TO ALL 2006 RAV OWNERS. WELL, I NEVER RECEIVED A LETTER AND I'VE BEEN THE ONE AND ONLY OWNER AT THE SAME ADDRESS. SO, IT'S NOT LIKE I COULDN'T BE FOUND. NOW MY HUSBAND IS TRYING TO FIND THE REPLACEMENT PART FOR THE VVTI- OIL HOSE, THAT IS NOW CALLED A 'PIPE'. I WANT TO KNOW WHY THIS WASN'T CONSIDERED A RECALL ISSUE INSTEAD OF A LIMITED SERVICE CAMPAIGN? THAT OIL HAD SPEWED ALL OVER AND UNDER THE HOT ENGINE ONTO THE MANIFOLD. NOW, I'M LOOKING AT REPAIR COSTS THAT COULD INCLUDE A NEW ENGINE. AT THIS POINT, WE DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH DAMAGE WAS DONE. 2006 RAV4 : SPEED CONTROL: SUDDEN ACCELERATION AND SUDDEN DECREASE IN ACCELERATION ON HIGHWAY. STARTING IN NOVEMBER 2010 OUR TOYOTA RAV4 WOULD SUDDENLY ACCELERATION ON HIGHWAY,LUNGE FORWARD WHILE PARKING FOR NO REASON. ON FEBRUARY 16, 2011 I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AGAIN ATTEMPTING TO CHANGE LANES AND THE CAR DECELERATED AND APPEARED TO BE STALLING-OUT ALSO ALL THE DASHBOARD LIGHTS WHEN ON:CHECK ENGINE ,ABS,VSH,AND 4WD. I GOT A FLAT AND I WENT TO REMOVE MY TIRE AND THE BOLT BROKE. THIS WAS THE FIRST TIME. I HAD IT FIXED. I WENT TO THE DEALER TO HAVE MY BRAKES DONE AND WAS TOLD THAT A BOLT WAS GOING TO BRAKE IF THEY CONTINUED TO REMOVE THE TIRE. I WAS GIVEN THE OPTION TO HAVE IT FIXED FOR $178. WE HAD THE TOYOTA DEALER CHECK A NOISE IN THE STEERING ON A 2006 TOYOTA RAV4. THEY DIAGNOSED THE NOISE AS NOISE FROM THE STEERING SHAFT. SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS OUT OF TOYOTA WARRANTY, TSB ST001-08, THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE ISSUE. WE CONTACTED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SERVICE AND THEY ALSO REFUSED TO REPAIR THE ISSUE. HEARD A NOISE IN MY STEERING COLUMN . TOOK CAR FOR AN OIL CHANGE AND ASKED THEM TO CHECK THE NOISE. THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE UNIVERSAL STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED WHICH WAS AN ITEM THAT TOYOTA RECALLED IN OCTOBER 20, 2008 FOR THIS PROBLEM 2006 - 2008 RAV 4'S. I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE. WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA THEY TOLD ME MY VIN NUMBER WAS NOT IN THE RECALL AND I WAS OVER THE 36 MONTHS TIME FRAME. HOWEVER I ONLY HAD 30,000 MILES ON MY CAR AT THE TIME AND JUST STARTED TO EXPERIENCE THE PROBLEM.
