I DID WENT TO DEALER NOW THEY FOUND LEAKAGE ON RARE SHOCK SUSPENSION. THIS IS BECAUSE OF RARE LOWER SUSPENSION RECALL. DEALER SAYING IT NOT PART OF RECALL. ONLY MY WIFE DRIVES CAR AND WE DID TOOK CARE VERY WELL. I WOULD LIKE TO REQUEST THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE PART OF TOYOTA RECALL.. RARE SUSPENSION NOT WORKING PROPERLY NEED TO REPLACE BY TOYOTA AND MAKING NOISE.... *TR
WAS DRIVING NORMAL - ONLY A FEW MINUTES AFTER IGNITION - STRANGE SCENT OF PLASTIC BURNING. LOOKED DOWN TO FIND A THICK WHITE SMOKE COMING FROM WINDOW SWITCHES, FLAME SEEN THROUGH CRACKS. HAD TO PULL OVER IMMEDIATELY @ GAS/SERVICE STATION TO EXTINGUISH THE FLAME - I HAD NO LIQUID TO EXTINGUISH AT TIME OF INCIDENT. WENT DIRECTLY TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND DROPPED OFF VEHICLE. THEY ARE SAYING THERE IS NO RECALL - SO THEY WOULD NOT PURCHASE ME A RENTAL HAD TO PAY FOR IT MYSELF. AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED APPROX 6 WEEKS BACK. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID A VEHICLE RECALL HAD BEEN ISSUED FOR MY VEHICLE, DUE TO THE AIR BAG CURTAIN SENSOR. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP; RECALL WORK WAS DONE. LESS THAN 1 MILE DRIVING, THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON. TOOK VEHICLE BACK AND AFTER 3-4 HOURS OF TROUBLESHOOTING I WAS TOLD THAT THE SPIRAL/COIL CABLE BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL WAS AT FAULT AND PARTS AND LABOR WOULD COME TO $530. DID AN INTERNET SEARCH ON '07-08 RAV4, AND WAS SURPRISED TO FIND MORE PROBLEMS WITH THE SPIRAL/COIL CABLE THAN WITH THE CURTAIN SENSOR. IN SEVERAL CASES, OWNERS HAD TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN FOR THE RECALL AND WERE TOLD THE SAME I WAS (NEEDED A NEW SPIRAL/COIL CABLE). AFTER READING ALL THE DEPLOYMENTS OF RAV4 AIRBAGS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS NOT MOVING NOR IMPACTED; I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT THE AIRBAG SYSTEM IS RELIABLE. IS THERE A LARGER ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAGS? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH BURNING FUMES WERE EMITTED INTO THE VEHICLE AND SMOKE STARTED TO COME OUT FROM THE DOOR. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT RIGHT BEFORE HE WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE IT ENGULF INTO FLAMES. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
FOR 2 YEARS PRIOR TO TAKING THE CAR TO TOYOTA FOR REPAIR, I WAS HEARING A CLICKING NOISE WHEN I TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL BACK AND FORTH, NORMALLY WHEN I BEGAN USING THE CAR EARLY IN THE MORNING. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TO FIND THE PROBLEM, EXPECTING IT TO BE A SLIGHT ADJUSTMENT. I WAS TOLD THAT THE STEERING SHAFT WAS BROKEN ALONG WITH A YOKE ASSEMBLY THAT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. I WAS ALARMED THAT I HAD BEEN DRIVING A CAR WITH A BROKEN STEERING SHAFT FOR SO LONG. TOYOTA REPLACED THE BROKEN PARTS AND CHARGED ME $600. I THOUGHT TOYOTA SHOULD COVER THE COST AS A WARRANTY ITEM BUT THEY REFUSED. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT A STEERING DEFECT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF VIA A SAFETY RECALL. HAD THE SHAFT BROKEN OR BECOME MORE DAMAGED THEN A HIGH SPEED ACCIDENT COULD HAVE OCCURRED. *TR
I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALER BECAUSE OF ANNOYING RATTLE NOISE COMING FROM THE FRONT END WHEN TURNING LEFT AND RIGHT, AND WHEN STEPPING ON BRAKE. THE DEALER DIAGNOSED THAT THE DEFECTIVE STEERING RACK MADE NOISE AND IT SHOULD BE REPLACED (ESTIMATED COST OF $1,984 INCLUDING PART AND LABOR COSTS), OTHERWISE THE VEHICLE COULD BREAK DOWN. I WAS ALSO TOLD BY THE DEALER THAT THIS TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE (OCCURRING IN PARTICULAR TO THOSE RAV4 2006-2008 PRODUCED IN SHOKKI, JAPAN) AND TOYOTA OFFERED THE REPLACEMENT OF THE STEERING RACK IF A VEHICLE IS UNDER THE 3 YEAR WARRANTY PERIOD. TOYOTA HAS DOCUMENTED THIS ISSUE--REFER TO T-SB-0308-08, OCTOBER 8, 2008. APPARENTLY MY RAV4 IS OVER 6 YEARS OLD (BUT ONLY RAN 31,400 MILES) AND NOT COVERED BY THE WARRANTY. I TALKED TO TOYOTA NATIONAL CUSTOMER SERVICE ABOUT THE ISSUE AND TOYOTA DECLINED TO REPAIR THE PART AT THEIR COST. I DEMAND THAT NHTSA/DOT TAKE AN ACTION TO INVESTIGATE THIS PARTICULAR ISSUE SO AS TO PREVENT RAV4 DRIVERS FROM FACING FATAL ACCIDENTS ON THE ROAD. *TR
MY RAV4 WAS MAKING POPPING NOISES IN THE STEERING, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THE STEERING SHAFT HAD TO BE REPLACED AND THERE WAS NOT A RECALL ON THAT. I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF A CAR HAVING A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH STEERING, ESPECIALLY ONE WITH ONLY 70,000 MILES ON IT. ANYWAY, I HAD TO PAY $380 TO HAVE THAT FIXED AND THEY ALSO DID AN ALIGNMENT. THEY SAID THAT I NEEDED THE ALIGNMENT BECAUSE OF THE REPAIR. I PICKED UP THE CAR AND ON THE WAY HOME, IT STARTED MAKING A HORRIBLE POPPING AND CLUNKING SOUND IN THE REAR-END. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP BACK TO TELL THEM TO COME GET IT BECAUSE I DID NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING IT BACK TO THEM. AFTER THE TOW TRUCK CAME, MY HUSBAND FOUND THAT THERE IS A RECALL ON THE CAR BECAUSE OF REAR SUSPENSION AFTER AN ALIGNMENT. I AM WRITING THIS TO LET YOU KNOW ABOUT MY PROBLEMS WITH 1) THE STEERING PROBLEM AND 2) THE REAR SUSPENSION PROBLEM. AGAIN, THIS ALIGNMENT WAS DONE AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP! *TR
I WAS DRIVING WHEN SUDDENLY I SAW SMOKE COMING OUT OF THE POWER WINDOW SWITCH ON THE DRIVER'S-SIDE DOOR. WHEN I STOP TO CHECK I SAW FIRE INSIDE THE DOOR. I IMMEDIATE ASK FOR ASSISTANCE. WHEN HE UNCOVER THE SWITCH IT HAS A NICKEL SIDE HOLE. THERE IS NO MAJOR DAMAGE TO MY VEHICLE OTHER THAN THE SWITCH NOT WORKING OR MY WINDOWS. I REALLY THINK I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS NEAR MY BROTHERS HOME WHEN THIS HAPPEN. IF I WAS SOMEWHERE (LIKE THE FREEWAY) I REALLY TAUGHT MY WHOLE CAR WOULD OF CAUGHT ON FIRE AND LUCKY MY CHILD WAS NOT IN THE VEHICLE WITH ME. *TR
BOTH REAR SWAY BAR LINKS BROKE ON A WELL MAINTAINED RAV4 THAT IS GARAGED NIGHTLY. *TR
I CHANGE MY OIL EVERY 3,0000 MILES EVEN SYNTHETIC OIL RECOMMENDS THAT 5000 MILES ARE DEALERS RECOMMENDED AND CAR CAN RUN EVEN LONGER ON A FULL SYNTHETIC OIL. BUT NO MATTER WHAT THEY SAY I CHANGE MINE EVERY 3000 MILES. FOR LAST MANY OIL CHANGE I FIND MY OIL LEVEL TO BE VERY VERY LOW. I MEAN ALMOST 1 AND A HALF COURT DOWN, IN LESS THEN 30000 MILES. FUNNY THING IS I PUT HALF COURT OF OIL BETWEEN THE 3000 MILES DRIVEN ON OIL CHANGES. SO THEORETICALLY IT WAS 2 QT DOWN FROM OIL. THIS PROBLEM I STARTED TO NOTICE AROUND 60,000 MILES ON THE ENGINE. THERE IS NO LEAKS. I HAVE GOOD UNDERSTANDING OF CARS AS I HAVE WORKED ON HONDA ACCORDS AND CAMRYS FROM OLDER MODELS. I HAVE CHANGED STEERING PUMP TO GASKETS TO SPEED SENSORS AND MANY MORE ON CARS. I CAN ASSURE THAT THIS CAR DOES NOT HAVE ANY LEAKS EXCEPT FOR OIL PAN GET SLIGHTLY WET AROUND THE BOLT AREA BECAUSE OF PERHAPS NEEDS A SEAL OR NEW BOLT. IN TOTAL THAT OIL WONT ADD UP TO MORE THAN 10-20 DROPS IN TOTAL THROUGH OUT THE TIME OF OIL CHANGE IF THAT. THIS EXTREME AMOUNT OF ENGINE OIL BURNOUT SEEMS LIKE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS CAR. TOO COMMON TO BELIEVE IT WAS MADE BY TOYOTA. IM VERY SURPRISED AS TO WHY TOYOTA WON'T RECOGNIZE AS THEIR FAULT. (WELL NOT REALLY THAT SURPRISED). *TR
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WENT ON AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER - THEY SAID IT WAS THE SPIRAL CABLE FOR THE DRIVER'S SIDE FRONT AIR BAG WHICH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR OVER $500. THIS WAS AFTER THE CAR HAD ALREADY BEEN THE SUBJECT OF ANOTHER AIRBAG-RELATED RECALL. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 11V245000 (AIR BAG: SIDE WINDOW) TO HAVE THE SIDE AIR BAGS SENSOR REPLACED. THE CONTACT WAS MADE AWARE THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE FAILED AS A RESULT OF THE DEFECTIVE SENSOR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACT WHO DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE SPIRAL CABLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE SRS LIGHT ILLUMINATED, SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER INFORMED THE HER, THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER A RECALL FOR A DEFECTIVE SIDE IMPACT AIR BAG ECM AND THEY WOULD RUN A DIAGNOSTIC TO SEE WHAT ERROR CODE WAS CAUSING THE ACTIVATION OF THE WARNING LIGHT. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPT, AND THEY STATED THE VEHICLE WAS REPORTING TWO SEPARATE ERROR CODES; THE FIRST FOR THE RECALLED ECM, WHICH WAS REPLACED, AND A SECOND FOR A DEFECTIVE SPIRAL CABLE, WHICH WAS RELATED TO THE AIR BAG SYSTEM, BUT NOT COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THERE WAS SMOKE AND A BURNING SMELL COMING FROM THE DRIVER SIDE ELECTRICAL PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS PULLED INTO A TIRE SHOP AND THE FIRE WAS EXTINGUISHED. THE VEHICLE WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THEY WOULD NEED TO REPLACE THE CONTROL PANEL BECAUSE ALL OF THE WIRES WERE MELTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED WHO SENT OUT A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE FAILURE, ADVISING THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD RESPOND WITHIN THIRTY DAYS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT YET REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO CONFIRMED THE MASTER CYLINDER SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AFTER A FIRE BURNED A HOLE THROUGH THE SWITCH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 95,329.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKING THE VEHICLE WITH THE BRAKES ENGAGED, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A WALL. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE BRAKES DID NOT FAIL AND THERE WERE EXTENSIVE DAMAGES TO THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER. THE POLICE WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE WHO SENT A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE ENGINEER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS WORKING AS DESIGN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
WE BECAME AWARE OF A RECALL FOR THE VEHICLE FOR RUST FORMATION THAT COULD LEAD TO SEPARATION OF THE REAR SUSPENSION ARMS IN AUGUST 2012. IT'S JANUARY 2013 AND TOYOTA TELLS US THAT THEY ARE STILL WORKING ON A "FIX." THEY USE A LOT OF SALT TO KEEP OUR LOCAL ROADS CLEAR AND, AS YOU KNOW, SALT AND UNPROTECTED STEEL ARE A RECIPE FOR FAILURE FOR STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. MY POINT? IT'S BEEN LONG ENOUGH TO COME UP WITH A SOLUTION TO THE PROBLEM AND EVEN WHEN TOYOTA DOES, IT WILL TAKE MONTHS TO EFFECT REPAIRS. WE WOULD APPRECIATE YOUR LOOKING INTO TO THE MATTER. *TR
MY WIFE WAS DRIVING A 2007 RVA 4 LIMITED WHEN THE CAR AHEAD OF HER SUDDENLY STOPPED. SPEED WAS 25 TO 30 MPH IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. SHE BRAKED AND COLLIDED WITH THE CAR AHEAD OF HER. MY WIFE WAS ABLE TO CATCH HERSELF AND WAS SITTING UP RIGHT WHEN THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THERE WAS A DELAY IN THE AIRBAGS BY SEVERAL SECONDS AFTER THE FRONT COLLISION. SOON AFTER THE AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, THICK BLACK SMOKE CAME UP THROUGH THE STEERING COLUMN. MY WIFE EVACUATED THE CAR AND WITHIN FIVE MINUTES THE CAR WAS TOTALLY ENGULFED IN FLAMES. I AM CONCERNED ON THE DELAY IN AIRBAG DEPLOYMENT AND THE FIRE AND SPEED AT WHICH IT SPREAD. WE LOVED OUR RAV BUT HAVE A CONCERN ABOUT BUYING ANY TOYOTA PRODUCT. *TR
ABOUT 18 MONTHS BEFORE THE DATES ABOVE, I NOTICED A KNOCKING IN THE STEERING WHEEL WHEN I TURNED IT. I DIDN'T THINK TOO MUCH ABOUT IT UNTIL IT STARTED GETTING WORSE AND I MENTIONED IT TO A FRIEND AT WORK. HE MENTIONED RESEARCHING IT ONLINE TO SEE IF THERE WERE ANY RECALLS OR PROBLEMS AND SUGGESTED HAVING SOMEONE LOOK AT IT. I TOOK HIS ADVICE AND SAW THAT RAV4S DID HAVE SOME STEERING ISSUES. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS REPLACED AT THE CHARGE OF $45.00 FOR DIAGNOSIS AND $428.77 PARTS AND LABOR FOR THE REPAIR. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALLS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 85,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 93,000.
AFTER HEARING ABOUT TSBS RELATED TO PREMATURE WATER PUMP FAILURE, I NOTICED THAT MY RAV4 WAS LOW ON COOLANT. THE DEALER SERVICE DEPARTMENT TESTED AND FOUND THE PUMP WAS LEAKING, AND REPLACED IT UNDER THE POWER TRAIN WARRANTY. LESS THAN 15,000 MILES AND 2 YEARS LATER I AM NOTICING THAT THE COOLANT LEVEL IS BEGINNING TO RUN LOW AGAIN, AND SUSPECT THE REPLACEMENT WATER PUMP MAY AGAIN BE DEFECTIVE. *TR
ENGINE BURNS OIL EXCESSIVELY ( CONSUMES 1Q AT EVERY 900-1000 MILES)
MY 2007 RAV4 DRIVER SIDE REAR WINDOW WONT GO UP AND DOWN. THE DRIVER SIDE CONTROL SWITCH FOR THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW DOES NOT MOVE. THE SWITCH FOR THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WINDOW ON THE BACK DOOR DOES NOT WORK ALL THE TIME. WHEN IT DOES WORK JUST ONE TAP AND THE REAR WINDOW (DRIVER SIDE) GOES DOWN ALL THE WAY BY ITS SELF. THE OTHER THREE SWITCHES FOR THE WINDOWS AND THE OTHER THREE WINDOWS SEEM TO WORK AND RESPOND HOW THEY SHOULD. ONLY PROBLEM IS WITH THE REAR WINDOW AND THE SWITCH ON BOTH THE DRIVER DOOR AND THE REAR WINDOW DOOR (DRIVER SIDE). ALSO WHILE DRIVING TO WORK DRIVING APROX 10 MPH MY REAR PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL BENT IN TOWARD THE WHEEL WELL. THE TIE ROD WAS BROKE AND THE TIE ROD WAS VERY RUSTED . THE DEALER SAID IT WAS A FREAK OCCURRENCE AND FIXED IT WHILE UNDER WARRANTY. PROBLEM IS THAT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE REAR SUSPENSION (DRIVER SIDE) IS ALSO RUSTED BUT THEY DID NOT FIX IT AT THE SAME TIME. THIS HAPPENED JUNE 14TH AT ABOUT 6:10 AM I WAS NOT TOLD OF THE RECALL OF THIS TIE ROD ISSUE AT THE TIME OF IT GETTING FIXED . THEY PLAYED IT OFF AS IT WERE A FREAK OCCURRENCE.. DRIVERS SIDE WINDOW VISOR LOOSE AND DOES NOT STAY IN POSITION. FALLS DOWN INTO DRIVERS VIEW OBSTRUCTING VISION AND DISTRACTING DRIVER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 30 MPH WHEN THE REAR TIE ROD FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE BECAME UNCONTROLLABLE AS THE CONTACT MERGED TO THE SHOULDER. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND CONFIRMED THAT THE REAR TIE ROD WAS FRACTURED AS A RESULT OF RUST. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIE RODS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 104,000.
THIS JUST HAPPEND TO ME ON THE MORNING OF 07/26/2012. I WAS ON A BUSINESS TRIP AND LEAVING THE AIRPORT. AS I WAS ABOUT TO PAY MY PARKING FEE THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR STARTED SMOKING AND I SAW A SMALL FIRE STARTING TO FLARE UP ON THE DRIVER'S SEAT DOOR BY THE WINDOW SWITCH. I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WITHIN 3 MINUTES THE WHOLE DOOR WAS UP IN FLAMES. *JS
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, MY ACCELERATOR OPENED TO FULL THROTTLE. I HAD TO DEPRESS THE BRAKE STRONGLY FOR BETWEEN 10 AND 15 SECONDS UNTIL THE ACCELERATOR CLICKED OFF. THE CRUISE CONTROL WAS ON, BUT IT WAS NOT SET. THE PEDAL WAS WELL CLEAR OF THE FLOOR MAT, AND LOOKING DOWN DURING THE INCIDENT I COULD SEE THAT IT WAS CLEAR OF ANY OBJECTS. IT WAS A TERRIFYING EVENT. UPON NOTIFYING A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THEY TESTED THE VEHICLE AND CLAIMED THEY DID NOT DISCOVER WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS. *TR

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

WE BROUGHT OUR VEHICLE IN TO SERVICE RECALL NOTICE FOR SIDE CURTAIN AIRBAGS. WHEN RETURNING HOME AFTER SERVICE THE AIRBAG LIGHT WENT ON. THE TOYOTA DEALER TESTED IT AND SAID IT WAS THE MAIN CLOCKSPRING. I SUBSEQUENTLY HAD THE CLOCKSPRING REPLACED AT MY EXPENSE AND IT LASTED A NUMBER OF MONTHS BEFORE THE AIRBAG LIGHT STARTED COMING ON FREQUENTLY. I THEN HAD THE VEHICLE TESTED BY THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS (TWO TOYOTA DEALERS) AND THEY ALL SAID THAT THE ONLY INDICATION THEY GET WHEN THEY TEST THE SYSTEM IS THE OLD, PREVIOUSLY FIXED CLOCKSPRING FAILURE INDICATOR AND ALL SAID THAT THEY HAVE NO IDEA WHY THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS COMING ON. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN AS WE DON'T KNOW IF OUR AIRBAG SYSTEM IS WORKING OR NOT AND WHETHER OR NOT IT COULD GO OFF ANYTIME. IT ALSO MAKES IT IMPOSSIBLE TO SELL THE CAR. *TR

IN MY VEHICLE, THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR HAS LOOSENED SO THAT IT WILL NOT STAY UP OUT OF THE WAY NEXT TO THE ROOF OF THE CAR. IT DRIFTS DOWN INTO MY LINE OF SIGHT AND HINDERS MY VISION. WHEN I PULL IT DOWN TO USE, IT ALSO WILL NOT STAY UP AGAINST THE WINDSHIELD. SO IT'S NEARLY ALWAYS IN MY WAY. AND IT CAN'T BE ADJUSTED BY ME. IT HAS TO BE REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP. SPIRAL CABLE AND AIR BAG SENSOR NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR A COST OF $933.31 PARTS, LABOR AND TAX. IT SEEMS THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURRING WITH SOME FREQUENCY, EVIDENT FROM PRIOR COMPLAINTS AND COMMENTS ON AUTOMOTIVE WEBSITES, AND THAT TOYOTA TECHNICIANS ARE AWARE OF IT. *JS

AFTER COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, ENGINE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN WITHOUT PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL. THIS WAS AFTER THE RECALL FOR THE FLOOR MATS. THE ACCELERATION HAD ENOUGH "G" FORCE TO PIN THE OCCUPANTS BACK IN THEIR SEATS. DRIVER WAS FORTUNATE THAT NO TRAFFIC WAS AHEAD. RAPID ACCELERATION APPEARED TO STOP AFTER PUSHING ON THE GAS PEDAL. TOYOTA APPEARS TO ATTRIBUTE ALL THESE INCIDENTS TO THE FLOOR MATS. AN ACCELERATION THAT PINS YOU BACK IN THE SEAT --FLOOR MAT DOES NOT HAVE ENOUGH DENSITY TO ACCOMPLISH THIS. THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES IN THE 2 YEARS WE HAVE OWNED THIS VEHICLE. MOST OCCURRENCES HAVE BEEN MORE SUBTLE THAN THE ONE DESCRIBED HERE. *TR
2007 TOYOTA RAV 4. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH VEHICLE KEYS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE PLASTIC CASING ON THE IGNITION KEY SEPARATED FROM THE METAL PART OF THE PRIMARY KEY. SHE THEN STARTED USING THE SPARE KEY AND WITHIN A YEAR, THE SAME THING HAPPENED TO THAT KEY. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER IT WOULD COST $200 TO REPLACE THE KEY. MY AIR BAG SENSOR LIGHT CAME ON APPROXIMATELY AT 128,824 MILES. JUST AFTER MY EXTENDED WARRANTY RAN OUT. DIAGNOSTIC TEST INDICATED THAT THE SPIRAL CABLE IN THE STEERING COLUMN HAS FAILED. PART NUMBER IS 84306-22010. ACCORDING TO THE SERVICE REP AT THE DEALERSHIP, THIS FAILURE IN NOT AN UNKNOWN PROBLEM. PARTS ARE $272.00 AND LABOR WILL BE $150.00+ TAX. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH , THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SEVERAL TOYOTA MODELS.ACCORDING TO TOYOTA WHEN I CALLED THERE HAVE BEEN RECALLS ON THE OTHER MODELS BUT HAVE NOT BEEN ENOUGH COMPLAINTS AGAINST THE RAV4 TO ISSUE A RECALL. SO WHAT IS IT GOING TO TAKE TO GET THIS THING RECALLED? WHEN TURNING RIGHT AT LOW SPEED, PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIE ROD ASSEMBLY FAILED AND WHEEL TURNED AT 45 DEGREE ANGLE, DISABLING THE AUTOMOBILE. IF THIS HAD HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, IT WOULD HAVE CAUSED A CATASTROPHIC ACCIDENT. DEALERSHIP HAD PREVIOUSLY CHECKED A KNOCKING NOISE IN REAR, BUT WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS PROBLEM WAS A DESIGN FAULT AND THAT THERE WERE NOT ENOUGH THREADS ON THE TIE ROD ASSEMBLY TO HOLD THE TIE ROD SUFFICIENTLY. I HAVE FOUND OTHER REPORTS OF THIS TIE ROD FAILURE. IT WAS A SUNNY DAY, AND I DROVE MY 2007 RAV4 AT THE SPEED OF 40 MILES PER HOUR. SUDDENLY, I HEARD A NOISE ZIIIII FROM THE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH AT THE DRIVER SIDE. I SAW AN ELECTRICAL FIRE AT THE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH AT THE DRIVER SIDE. THE SMOKE CAME OUT FROM THE MASTER WINDOW SWITCH. I PULLED OVER MY CAR, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND LEFT THE CAR. WHEN THE FLAME WENT OUT, I SAW A BURNED HOLE ABOUT QUARTER SIZE IN THE SWITCH. NOTE: THERE IS NO WATER LEAKED / COFFEE SPILLED INSIDE THE SWITCH. I WENT TO TOYOTA DEALER. THE MECHANICS STATED THAT THE FUSE DID NOT BLOW OUT. DEALER DENIED TO REPLACING THE SWITCH WITHOUT CHARGING. *JS
