2007 TOYOTA RAV 4. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEM WITH STEERING MECHANISM CAUSING A CRUNCHING FEELING IN HIS HANDS AND SOUNDS OF METAL GRINDING, ALMOST EVERY TIME THE WHEEL IS TURNED. *TGW
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN HE TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL, HE HEARD A CLUNKING SOUND; THE NOISE BECAME LOUDER AT LOWER SPEEDS. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN INSPECTED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 43,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 46,000. UPDATED 01/11/2011*LJ UPDATED 03/02/11
I NOTICED A "POPPING" SOUND AND STARTED FEELING A "THUNK" IN THE STEERING WHEEL AT ~ 40,000 MILES IN OUR 2007 RAV4. THE DEALER CLAIMED IT WAS TYPICAL AND NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT. UPON CHECKING INCIDENT REPORTS I DISCOVERED IT IS CERTAINLY TYPICAL, BUT WHETHER I SHOULD BE WORRYING ABOUT IT IS UNDETERMINED. TOYOTA KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM AND ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN IN 2008, NEITHER THEY NOR THEIR DEALERS INFORMED THE OWNERS. THE PROBLEM WAS SERIOUS ENOUGH THAT IT WARRANTED A REDESIGN OF THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT COMPONENTS TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. I BELIEVE THIS IS A DESIGN FLAW THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECTIFIED THROUGH A RECALL.
THERE IS A LOUD "KLUNK" IN STEERING IN THE TURNS. TOYOTA DEALERS DOES NOT CARE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THERE IS A RECOMMENDATION, BUT NO RECALL. I FEEL UNSAFE AND ITS SOUNDS LIKE DEFECTIVE TO ME - MY TOYOTA RAV4 07 ONLY 3 YEARS OLD WITH 40000 MILES. DOES SOMEBODY HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THEY TAKE CARE OF THIS? I JUST WANT THOSE BIG GUYS IN JAPAN KNOW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND FIX IT. I AM WAITING FOR TOYOTA TO TAKE ACTION. *TR
I HAVE A STRONG POPPING NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL OF MY CAR. IT STARED VERY EARLY IN THE LIFE OF THE CAR ABOUT 7,000 MILES AND WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT FEEL IT. IT IS NOW PAST THE WARRANTY PERIOD AND THEY WANT TO CHARGE ME FOR THE WORK THAT NOW IS LOUDER THAN EVER. IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME YOU TURN WHEN AT A STOP EITHER RIGHT OR LEFT. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP THAT IT IS NOT A SERIOUS ISSUE AND HAVE FOUND SEVERAL WEB PAGES WITH FEEDS OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM. SO IF IT IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE THEN WHEN IT BREAKS HOW WILL I BE ABLE TO STEER? FROM WHAT I HAVE READ THIS IS AN ON GOING ISSUE WITH THE TOYOTA RAV4 AND THEY WONT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
WIFE ENTERED THE OUR 2007 TOYOTA RAV4, HAD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE, WENT TO START THE CAR, AND THE CURTAIN AIR BAGS DEPLOYED, KNOCKING HER OUT AND INJURING THE 15 YEAR OLD PASSENGERS ARM. *TR
ON JULY 20, 2010 I WAS DRIVING MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 WHEN I WAS HIT BY ANOTHER CAR AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. MY SEAT BELT FAILED TO RESTRAIN ME AND I HIT MY HEAD, REQUIRING STITCHES AND A CAT SCAN. MY CAR IS CURRENTLY AT A COLLISION CENTER WAITING TO BE EVALUATED. I HAVE NOT PREVIOUSLY HAD ANY INCIDENTS WHERE MY SEAT BELT HAD A REASON TO RESTRAIN ME, SO I DO NOT KNOW IF THIS IS AN ISOLATED INCIDENT OR A POSSIBLE SEAT BELT DEFECT. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE FRONT PASSENGER TIRE BLEW OUT. SHE DROVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE TO CHANGE THE TIRES AND WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE HOME. THERE WERE DAMAGES TO THE FRONT WINDSHIELD, EXTENSIVE DAMAGES TO THE DOOR AND SIDE OF THE VEHICLE WHICH COST $5,000 TO REPAIR. THE TIRE WAS MANUFACTURED BY YOKOHAMA, TIRE LINE WAS GEOLANDAR, SIZE 235/55/R18. THE INSURANCE COMPANY WILL REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND THE TIRE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND A CLAIM WAS FILED. THEY ALSO INFORMED HER TO MAIL THE TIRES BACK TO THEM. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 31,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE MAKING A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN, THE CONTACT HEARD A NOISE COMING FROM THE STEERING WHEEL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE FAILURE WAS LOCATED WITHIN THE INTERMEDIATE SHAFT. THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED TO ASSIST WITH SOME OF THE SERVICE COST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 25,000.
2007 TOYOTA RAV 4 . REPORTED A LOUD CLUNKING IN THE STEERING. THE NOISE WHILE TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL KEEPS GETTING WORSE. CAN FEEL A CLUNKING IN THE WHEEL WHILE DRIVING. DEALER REPORTS, STEERING RACK ASSEMBLY NEEDS REPLACING. MANY OTHERS REPORTING THE SAME PROBLEM ON THE INTERNET. SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL ON THIS. 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. HEAR A KNOCKING NOISE WHILE TURNING LEFT AND RIGHT MORE AT SLOW SPEED. TOOK TO THE DEALER LAST OCT 15 AND REPLACED STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT OUT OF WARRANTY AND THEY CHARGE $520.00 FOR LABOR AND PARTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 30,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 32,000. *TR

VEHICLE WAS RECALLED BY TOYOTA TO HAVE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MODIFIED AND FLOOR MATS CHANGED IN ORDER TO AVOID INADVERTENT ACCELERATION. FLOOR MAT CHANGE APPLIED ONLY TO ORIGINAL TOYOTA SUPPLIED FLOOR MATS, WHICH ABOVE VEHICLE HAS, AT LEAST ACCORDING TO ACCESSORY WINDOW STICKER SUPPLIED AT PURCHASE. WHEN VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO OURISMAN TOYOTA FOR COMPLIANCE, DEALER MARKED ON CUSTOMER YELLOW FORM THAT MATS WERE NOT ORIGINAL TOYOTA AND THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE CHANGED. HOWEVER DEALER STATED VERBALLY THAT MATS ACTUALLY WERE ORIGINAL TOYOTA, BUT THAT CUSTOMERS WERE NOT HAPPY WITH NEW MATS SINCE THEY WERE TOO THIN. THEREFORE DEALER DECIDED TO COMPLY WITH SAFETY DIRECTIVE BY MARKING ALL ORIGINAL MATS AS NON-ORIGINAL MATS, WHICH DID NOT HAVE TO BE CHANGED. NICE TO KNOW THAT THE DEALER IS CUSTOMER ORIENTED, BUT I AM LEFT WONDERING IF THAT JEOPARDIZES SAFETY. INCIDENT WAS REPORTED TO TOYOTA ON THE SAFETY EMAIL ADDRESS LISTED ON THEIR WEB SITE, BUT NO REPLY RECEIVED. *TR
2007 TOYOTA RAV4. ACCELERATOR STUCK TWICE IN ONE MONTH PERIOD. DRIVER ABLE TO STOP SAFELY BOTH TIMES. PROBLEM REPORTED TO TOYOTA CORPORATE CARE. THEY SENT A REPRESENTATIVE WHO COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM AND TOYOTA REFUSED TO AUTHORIZE ANY REPAIRS. VEHICLE OWNER, FEARING ADDITIONAL PROBLEMS, HAD THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL REPLACED AT CUSTOMERS EXPENSE. OLD ACCELERATOR PEDAL AVAILABLE. AS THE CONSUMERS WIFE WAS ACCELERATING UP A HILL, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME STUCK. IT DID NOT CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE, BUT WOULD NOT RETURN TO IDLE WHEN SHE RELEASED HER FOOT FROM THE PEDAL. SHE HAD TO FORCE THE BRAKE PEDAL DOWN. THE CONSUMER THEN TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE AND RE-STARTED IT AGAIN AND EVERYTHING WENT BACK TO NORMAL OPERATION. UPDATED IVOQ 08/12/10 *TR
BACK GLASS BROKEN ON TOYOTA RAV 4 ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. LARGE HOLE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GLASS. NO SIGNS OF VANDALISM OR "OUTSIDE INFLUENCES". TWO OF THE INCIDENTS OCCURRED AFTER THUNDERSTORMS. TOYOTA REFUSES TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS. ENTIRE BACK GLASS HAD TO BE REPLACED EACH TIME. *TR

DRIVER'S SIDE SUNVISOR ON 2007 RAV4 WILL NOT STAY IN FOLDED UPRIGHT POSITION. THE VISOR FLOPS DOWN IMPEDING VISION WHILE DRIVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT LOW SPEEDS, THERE WAS A PRONOUNCED CLUNKING SOUND COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. AN INDEPENDANT MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THE FAILURE AS THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT NEEDING REPLACEMENT. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE TWO INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFTS IN THE VEHICLE IN WHICH BOTH WOULD NEED REPLACEMENT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 48,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 53,000. UPDATED 12/16/11*LJ UPDATED 01/20/12
TO WHOM IT MAY CONCERN" MY TOYOTA 2007 RAV4'S STEERING WHEEL MAKES KNOCKING, CLUNKING NOISE WHEN TURNING SINCE JUNE 2010 EVEN THOUGH IT STILL HAVE VERY LOW MILEAGE ON IT. MANY RAV4 OWNERS HAVE THESE PROBLEM AND PLEASE MAKE TOYOTA DO A RECALL ON THIS STEERING WHEEL PROBLEM BEFORE IT CAUSES ANY SERIOUS PROBLEMS. THIS PROBLEM REQUIRES A REPLACEMENT OF A INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT WHICH COULD COST UP TO $900. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME TO THIS MATTER. *TR
OEM BATTERY DIED. VEHICLE WAS JUMP STARTED. DURING SUBSEQUENT OPERATION POWER STEERING STOPPED WORKING INTERMITTENTLY CAUSING DIFFICULTY STEERING VEHICLE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT WOULD TIGHTEN TO THE POINT OF CHOKING THE PASSENGER. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE ONLY WAY TO TEMPORARILY REMEDY THE FAILURE WAS TO RELEASE THE SEAT BELT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 18,000.
AFTER GOING THROUGH A PUDDLE A PLASTIC HOSE BELOW DRIVER SEAT BROKE. I REPLACED IT FROM A DEALER FOR $178. AFTER A MONTH OR SO CHECK ENGINE, VSC AND 4WD LIGHTS CAME ON. CHECKED WITH DEALER AND SEEMS SOME PROBLEM WITH THE CHARCOAL CANNISTER. AND THE COST TO REPAIR IS AROUND $1200. I AM NOT SURE WHY THIS MUCH DAMAGE JUST BY DRIVING THE CAR IN A PUDDLE? VERY BAD QUALITY FROM TOYOTA. *TR
STEERING IS BEGINNING TO FEEL LOOSE. WHEN MAKING TURNS TO RIGHT OR LEFT THERE IS A CLUNKING SOUND AT LOW SPEEDS. GETTING WORSE WITH TIME. THIS APPEARS TO BE EXACTLY THE SAME SITUATION DESCRIBED BY MANY OTHER RAV4 OWNERS WHO ARE REPORTING THAT LED TO THEIR REPAIRS/REPLACEMENT OF THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFTS ON WHICH TOYOTA HAS ISSUED A SERVICE BULLETIN BUT NO RECALL. THIS WOULD SEEM TO BE A SAFETY CONCERN. FIRST NOTICED THE CLUNKING SOUND AT ABOUT 45,000 MILES. *TT
WE HAD A TOYOTA RAV4, BOUGHT NEW IN 2007. WE HAD ABOUT 5200 MILES ON IT, WHEN, ON MAY 19 ,2010, WHILE PARKING THE CAR IN THE GARAGE, I PUT THE GEAR IN REVERSE , WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE SUDDENLY SURGED, THE RPMS WENT ABOVE 5000, AND IN SPITE OF MY PRESSING HARD ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR SHOT OVER 1YARD OUT THE GARAGE. I PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED AT THIS HIGH SPEED . I USED THE KEY TO SHUT IT DOWN. ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE DASH SHONE WITH AN UNUSUAL BRIGHTNESS DURING THIS EVENT. I CALLED THE DEALER, METRO TOYOTA, AND THEY TOLD ME TO BRING THE CAR IN, WHICH I DID , LATE IN THE DAY. THE NEXT DAY, THEY CALLED ME, TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE CAR, AND THAT THE REASON OF THE ACCELERATION WAS THE "RUG". THE RAG WAS REMOVED, AND I PICKED UP THE CAR. OBVIOUSLY, I DROVE IT HOME WITH GREAT CARE. THE NEXT DAY, IN TRAFFIC, I WAS APPROACHING A RED LIGHT, WITH A CAR STOPPED IN FRONT OF ME, DOWN A LITTLE SLOPE ON THE ROAD. I KEPT A SAFE DISTANCE OF 3-4 CAR LENGTHS BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME, FOOT LIGHTLY ON THE BRAKE, WHEN THE CAR AGAIN SURGED, BUT I MANAGED TO CONTROL IT BARELY AVOIDING REAR ENDING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME .VERY EARLY NEXT MORNING, I TOOK THE CAR BACK TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS KEPT FOR OVER 2 WEEKS, NO ATTEMPT TO REPAIR WAS DONE, WITH THE WORD THAT THE CAR CHECKED OK. *TR
STEERING COLUMN HAS A CATCH IN IT WHEN TURNING...TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS ..BUT THEIR HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ON IT...
2007 TOYOTA RAV4 STEERING COLUMN (INTERMEDIATE SHAFT). THIS IS A KNOWN MANUFACTURING DEFECT BY TOYOTA AND THEY HAVE ISSUED A TSB IN 2008. ONLY HAVE 16.5K MI. (LOW). DEALER WILL NOT COVER UNDER WARRANT (BOUGHT IN SEPT. 2006). *TR
THERE IS A STEERING SHAFT DEFECT IN TOYOTA RAV4 2007 TOO. *TR
MAY 5, 2010 ACCIDENT. TOYOTA RAV4 2007 ACCELERATED. AT TIME OF ACCELERATION I HAD ALREADY BEGUN BRAKING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. ENGINE BEGAN LOUD RACING AND CAR ACCELERATED. WITH VERY LITTLE ROOM TO MANEUVER I TURNED CAR HARD RIGHT TO AVOID CARS AND RAN INTO A LARGE TREE WITH CAR STILL ACCELERATING STOPPING ONLY WHEN HITTING TREE AND BOUNCED OFF. WHEN CAR CAME TO A STOP ENGINE WAS STILL RACING AND VERY LOUD. THE ACCIDENT WAS ON PRIVATE PROPERTY SO POLICE WERE NOT CALLED. WITNESS OBSERVED SLOW DOWN AND TURN SIGNALS AND THEN SEEING CAR BEGIN ACCELERATING VERY QUICKLY. 2ND WITNESS THAT HEARD THE NOISE OF THE CRASH CAME OUT OF HOUSE AND WAS ALARMED AT THE LOUD RACING STILL COMING FROM THE ENGINE AFTER CAR HAD COME TO A STOP. ENGINE RACING DID NOT STOP UNTIL I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE IGNITION OFF. ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN A MATTER OF LESS THAN A MINUTE AFTER ACCELERATION BEGAN AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO TAKE HANDS OFF OF WHEEL TO ATTEMPT PUTTING INTO NEUTRAL OR TURN ENGINE OFF. CAR ESTIMATE WAS $14,000 WHICH DID NOT INCLUDE THE NEW ENGINE AND TRANSMISSION THAT WOULD BE REQUIRED SO IT WAS TOTALED. INJURIES SUSTAINED BY ME INCLUDE SEVERE BRUISING, SORENESS AND BURN LIKE ABRASIONS ACROSS NECK AND RIGHT ARM FROM SEAT BELT. A CONCUSSION DUE TO HEAD AND NECK BEING THROWN BACK WARD AND FORWARD ON IMPACT. REMAINING SYMPTOMS INCLUDE DIZZINESS, NAUSEA, HEADACHES, COGNITIVE ISSUES. THIS WAS 2ND EXPERIENCE OF ACCELERATION PROBLEM. FIRST INCIDENT 2 WEEKS PRIOR, LASTED LESS THAN 30 SECONDS WITH NO ACCIDENT AND CAR RESUMED PREVIOUS SPEED BEFORE ACCELERATION. CAR HAS HAD FULL MAINTENANCE WITH DEALER SINCE PURCHASE AS A NEW CAR. NO PREVIOUS ACCIDENTS. CAR HAS NEVER REQUIRED ANY REPAIR OTHER THAN A TIRE AND ALL MAINTENANCE WAS PROPERLY MAINTAINED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 30 MPH, THE CONTACT HEARD AN UNUSUAL NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE HOOD. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT THEN ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT CONFIRMED THAT THE LOW OIL LEVEL WARNING LIGHT NEVER ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER THEN INFORMED HER THAT THEY WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO REPAIR HER VEHICLE AND THAT SHE SHOULD RETRIEVE IT FROM THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 49,411.
KNOCKING NOISE IN STEERING COLUMN OF 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4. HAPPENS WHEN TRUCK IS MOVING AND TURNING EITHER LEFT OR RIGHT. *TR
TSB ST001-08 STEERING GEAR BOX SHAFT . I HAVE A SEVERE CLUNKING NOISE ON MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. THE NOISE APPEARS WHENEVER I MOVE THE STEERING WHEEL EVEN A LITTLE BIT AND CONTINUES INDEFINITELY. I HAVE HAD THIS NOISE FOR ALMOST ONE YEAR AND IT IS GETTING WORSE. ACCORDING TO OTHER RAV4 OWNERS, TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM, BUT THEY REFUSE TO REPAIR IT WITHOUT CHARGING THE OWNERS. THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY WHEN THE NOISE STARTED AND NOW IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY AND IS NO LONGER COVERED (THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED 3 YEARS AGO AND HAS LESS THAN 30,000 MILES ON IT). WHEN I TOOK THE CAR INTO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ON JUNE 1, 2010 FOR AN ANNUAL INSPECTION, THE CAR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY AND THE MILEAGE WAS ONLY 26496 (I PURCHASED IT ON JUNE 16, 2007). I MENTIONED TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A CLUNKING NOISE IN THE STEERING, BUT THERE WAS NO MENTION OF ANY PROBLEMS. I AM UNABLE TO PAY FOR ANY REPAIRS ON THIS VEHICLE, AND DO NOT FEEL LIKE I SHOULD HAVE TO BECAUSE IT WAS FAULTY WHILE UNDER WARRANTY, AND TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT IT BUT REFUSES TO REPAIR IT (IT IS A HUGE PROBLEM, ONE THAT AFFECTS 2006 AND 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 VEHICLES). *TR
TL - THE DRIVER OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA RAV4. WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE REAR OF HIS VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAG DID NOT DEPLOY. THE PASSENGER HAD BACK INJURIES. MY TEENAGE SON LOST CONTROL OF MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV4 AND CRASHED INTO A TREE. I BELIEVE THE CAR HIT THE TREE AT AN ANGLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE HEADLIGHT AREA. HE HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH SPEEDING, BUT I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY HOW FAST HE WAS GOING. THREE OF HIS FRIENDS WERE IN THE CAR, ALL WEARING SEAT BELTS. THE FRONT SEAT PASSENGER SUFFERED A SERIOUS CLOSED HEAD INJURY, BROKEN LEG AND ARM, AND A PUNCTURED LUNG. THE DRIVER HAD A BROKEN CLAVICLE AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE BACKSEAT PASSENGER BROKE HIS PELVIS. THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER FRONT AIRBAGS DEPLOYED, BUT THE PASSENGER SIDE CURTAIN AND TORSO AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY, WHICH I SUSPECT CAUSED THE FRONT PASSENGER TO BE MORE SERIOUSLY INJURED. THE CAR IS DEMOLISHED FROM THE PASSENGER HEADLIGHT AREA TO THE BACK PASSENGER DOOR. THE CAR HAS NEVER BEEN WRECKED BEFORE AND NO AIRBAGS HAVE EVER DEPLOYED BEFORE. *TR

I TURNED ON THE IGNITION OF MY 2007 TOYOTA RAV 4 AND BEGAN TO DRIVE INTO MY GARAGE AND THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND DID NOT SLOW DOWN UPON APPLICATION OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. I PUMPED THE BRAKE FIERCELY SEVERAL TIMES TO THE FLOOR BOARD OVER THE APPROXIMATELY 12-15 FEET OF GARAGE DEPTH AND THE RAV4 STOPPED JUST AS IT PUSHED THE WHEELBARREL INTO THE WALL. . ASIDE FROM DAMAGE TO THE WALL OF THE GARAGE, THE VEHICLE'S BUMPER WAS DENTED AND SLIGHTLY CRACKED. AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THERE WAS NO BODILY TRAUMA OR PERSONAL INJURY. *TR

TOYOTA DOESN'T HAVE AN ANSWER. VSC SEEM TO WORK WHEN LIGHTS ARE OFF, BUT UNDERSTAND THAT WON'T WORK WHEN LIGHTS ARE ON. SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM WITH THESE VEHICLES AS I'VE SEEM MANY COMPLAINTS & QUESTIONS FROM OTHER VEHICLE OWNERS ON INTERNET. NOT HAVING VSC WORKING IS GREAT CAUSE FOR CONCERN IN AN SUV AS SUV MAY ROLL CAUSING INJURIES/DEATH. THANK YOU.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING; HOWEVER, THE CONTACT WAS ADVISED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PROPER EQUIPMENT TO ADEQUATELY DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,723 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 27,750.
2007 TOYOTA RAV4 V6, DEFECTIVE REAR WHEEL SPEED CONTROL SENSOR CAUSES ERRATIC ABS, SKID CONTROL AND BRAKING. SENSOR FAILED AT UNDER 40,000 MILES. ALMOST $600 TO FIX AND OTHER THREE COULD FAIL TOO AS A RESULT OF CORROSSION FROM WATER AND SALT. TOYOTA HAS REDESIGNED THE PART SO THAT THE NEW ONE WILL NOT BE AS SUSCEPTIBLE TO FAILURE, BUT MEANWHILE THERE SEEMS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FAILURE OF THESE SPEED CONTROL SENSORS THAT SHOULD BE A RECALL COVERED BY TOYOTA RATHER THAN AN EXPENSE BORN BY THE OWNERS. IT IS A DESIGN FLAW AND A SAFETY ISSUE, ESPECIALLY IN BAD WEATHER WHEN THE SUDDEN LOSS OF AWD, ABS, VSC CAN HAVE SERIOUS CONSEQUENCES. HAVING SEARCHED ON THE INTERNET THROUGH VARIOUS TOYOTA FORUMS, THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ALL TO COMMON PROBLEM.
