TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 5 MPH THE CONTACT HEARD A TICKING NOISE IN THE ENGINE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE HAD BEEN ON GOING SINCE 2002 AND IT OCCURRED DAILY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO ADVISED HER THAT IT WAS JUST A NOISY LIFTER AND NOTHING TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT;HOWEVER, THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO SEVERAL DEALERS AND MECHANICS WHO WERE UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. DURING STATE INSPECTION SHE WAS ADVISED THAT THE MANIFOLD CASKET WAS WARPED AND THAT CARBON MONOXIDE WAS ENTERING THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AGAIN WHO STATED THAT THE MANIFOLD CASKET NEEDED TO BE REPLACED FOR $2,300. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. THE APPROXIMATE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
ENGINE STOPPED WHILE DRIVING 40 MPH. WOULD CRANK, BUT NOT START. EFI1 FUSE WAS BURNED OUT, REPLACED, AND BURNED OUT AGAIN UPON CRANKING.
PROBLEMS BEGAN AT 14,647 MILES ON BRAND NEW VEHICLE. EXTREME PULL TO THE RIGHT, SHIMMIE, VIBRATION WHILE DRIVING AND BRAKING, LOSS OF VSC ABILITIES. REPEATEDLY HAVE HAD TO REPLACE TIRES AND BRAKES BECAUSE OF MALFUNCTION. TIRES ARE WEARING TO THE METAL IN UNCONVENTIONAL MANNER. TOYOTA REPEATEDLY DISREGARDED AND DISMISSED MY CONCERNS, TELLING ME "THE ROADS IN AZ SLANT TO THE RIGHT, HENCE YOUR VEHICLE WILL PULL TO THE RIGHT". AFTER TWO YEARS OF FIGHTING WITH THEM REGARDING THIS, THEY NOW ADMIT TO CALIPER/DRUM PROBLEM BUT MAINTAIN I HAVE TO PAY TO CORRECT IT BECAUSE NOW I AM OUT OF WARRANTY. EVEN THOUGH PROBLEMS BEGAN AT 14K MILES, THEY CONTEND THIS IS MY PROBLEM AND NOT THEIRS. THESE ARE ONLY A FEW OF THE PROBLEMS I HAVE HAD WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS FORM REQUESTS A # OF FAILURES; I DO NOT HAVE A NUMBER TO GIVE YOU, AS THIS HAS BEEN A CONSTANT, CHRONIC PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT CEASED. I HAVE HAD 4 SETS OF TIRES AND REPLACED THE BRAKES 4 TIMES.*AK
WE HAVE A TOYOTA SEQUOIA, THE PROBLEMS ARE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE IS NOT OPERATING ALL THE TIME. IT DOES NOT ENGAGE, WHEN IT DOES SOMETIMES IT DOES NOT STAY IN 4 WHEEL DRIVE. ONE EXAMPLE IS WHEN MY WIFE HAD SIX FRIENDS IN THE VEHICLE THE 4 WHEEL DRIVE DID NOT STAY ENGAGED AND THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL MADE THE ENGINE LOOSE POWER SO SHE SLID BACKWARDS DOWN A HILL. NO ONE WOULD RIDE IN OUR 4 WHEEL DRIVE AGAIN. THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL ACTIVATES AT RADOM ON DRY PAVEMENT. THE SKID CONTROL MAKES THE ENGINE LOOSE POWER WHILE IN TRAFFIC. THERE IS ALSO A HESITATION IN THE ENGINE WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP. ANOTHER PROBLEM IS THE BRAKING SYSTEM IS ANOT ADEQUATE FOR THE VEHICLE. THE ENTIRE FRONT BRAKES HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN IN FOR THE SAME REAIRS AT LEAST FIVE TIMES AND IS STILL NOT WORKING THE WAY IT SHOULD. WE HAVE ALL THE DOCUMENTATION FOR SERVICE ON OUR SEQUOIA. WE HAVE DONE INTERNET RESEARCH THROUGH THE NHTSA AND HAVE FOUND THE SAME PROBLEM WITH OTHER TOYOTA SEQUOIA'S.
VEHICLE WILL NOT OVERRIDE VSC ( VEHICLE SKID CONTROL ) IF CAUGHT IN TRACTION, IF SURFACE WAS ROUGH OR BUMPY. VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE UNTIL IT REGAINED TRACTION. TOYOTA WAS NOTIFIED. *AK
FAULTY LATCH ON REAR HATCH. UNABLE TO OPEN WITH EITHER KEY OR WITH REMOTE. IT IS STUCK BECAUSE IT MAY HAVE SOMETHING DEFECTIVE WITH EITHER THE LATCH OR THE LOCK. *JB
THE "VSC TRAC" LIGHT, BRAKE LIGHT & ABS LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY ON. I HAVE A 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA AND HAVE HAD ISSUES WITH THE TRAC LIGHT SINCE THE FIRST 20K MILES. HAVE HAD IT IN ABOUT 3 TIMES IN THE DEALER WITH NO FIX. THE ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON FOR ABOUT 100K MILES. *TR
WHEN HAVING TWO WINDOWS OR EVEN ONE WINDOW OPEN IN BACK SEATS, VEHICLE WILL START TO SHAKE IN A WAY THAT CAN CAUSE CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER WAS NOT WILLING TO DO ANYTHING.*AKSPECIFICALLY WHEN THERE IS A REAR WINDOW OPEN, THE VEHICLE VIBRATES VIOLENTLY, SO SEVERE IT'S ENOUGH TO BOUNCE THE VEHICLE AS IF LOOSING CONTROL. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER WHO PROCLAIMS IT'S A DESIGN FLAW. *JG
PARKING BRAKE NEEDS CONSTANT ADJUSTMENT TO BE EFFECTIVE. THE PARKING BRAKE IS COMPLETELY UNUSABLE AFTER LESS THAN 2,000 MILES AFTER AN ADJUSTMENT. I HAVE ASKED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS SEVERAL TIMES, BUT HAVE NEVER RECEIVED AN EFFECTIVE SOLUTION OR ANSWER TO THE PROBLEM. SINCE I VERY RARELY USE MY PARKING BRAKE, IT IS VERY EASY TO NOT KNOW THAT IT DOES NOT WORK. *TR
MY FAMILY OF 5 WAS IN AN ACCIDENT ON HIGHWAY 95 IN BREVARD COUNTY FLORIDA OVER $10,000 OF FRONT END DAMAGE ON TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH LESS THAN 10000 MILES ON IT. NO AIR BAGS DEPLOYED SEVERAL INJURIES SUSTAINED. *AK
BRAKE PROBLEM PRESENTED ITSELF BY THE VEHICLE VIBRATING WHEN BRAKING FROM HIGH SPEED. ALL BRAKES REQUIRED SERVICING AND THEN REPLACEMENT. EMERGENCY BRAKE REQUIRED ADJUSTING THREE TIMES WITHIN 20,000 MILES. WHEN ONLY ONE WINDOW IS OPEN AT SPEEDS GREATER THAN 30 MPH, CAUSES SEVERE PRESSURE VIBRATIONS INSIDE THE VEHICLE INTERIOR. PRESSURE VIBRATIONS EXTREMELY DISTRACTING AND ANNOYING.*AK
I BOUGHT A NEW 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE BRAKE PADS AND ROTORS HAD TO BE REPLACED AT 5,000. I NOW HAVE 15,000 MI AND BOTH AGAIN HAVE TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE THE CAR SHIVERS WHEN BRAKING ON A HILL OR SUDDENLY. I HAVE THE EXTRA CARE WARRANTY (6 YEARS, 100,000 MILES), BUT THE TOYOTA DEALER IS SAYING IT WILL OCCUR AGAIN AND THAT THEY CANNOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, NOR COVER IT AGAIN UNDER WARRANTY. I DRIVE THIS CAR VERY CAREFULLY. I HAVE KIDS AND CANNOT AFFORD TO BE BRAKING HARD ALL THE TIME. BRAKE PROBLEMS IN A BUSY, TRAFFICKY CITY LIKE L.A. CAN BE DANGEROOUS. THIS IS ALSO A NEW CAR AND SEEMS LIKE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. I JUST WANTED YOU TO BE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM IN CASE OTHER SEQUOIA OWNERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS. THANK YOU.*AK
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE VEHICLE SLOWED DOWN RAPIDLY WITHOUT WARNING WHILE HE DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
CONSUMER'S WIFE WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 440 MPH WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE TRAVELLING 60 MPH RAN A RED LIGHT AND TURNED INTO CONSUMER'S VEHICLE, HITTING IT HEAD-ON. FRONT END WAS SEVERELY DAMAGED, PUSHING RADIATOR THROUGH THE ENGINE. AIRBAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. CONSUMER WAS INJURED. MANUFACTURER HAS APOLOGIZED, AND WILL SEND SOMEONE OUT TO INSPECT VEHICLE. AMOUNT OF DAMAGE WAS $23629. VEHICLE WILL TAKE APPROXIMATELY 9 MONTHS TO BE TOTALLY REPAIRED. *AK TOYOTA ISSUED A LETTER TO CONSUMER STATING THAT THE SRS OPERATED AS DESIGNED. *SLC
MY TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS COME ON, NOISE IS SOUNDING AND THE TRUCK IS SHAKING VIOLENTLY DURING ACCELERATION. IT OCCURS VERY OFTEN IN ALL TYPES OF WEATHER AND ROADS. IT'S AN UNSETTLING FEELING SINCE IT'S MY FAMILY VEHICLE AND THE LIVES OF MY LOVED ONES ARE IN THIS VEHICLE. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO BE LOOKED AT AND NOTHING HAS BEEN FOUND TO BE THE PROBLEM. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE AND SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE BEFORE LIVES ARE LOST! *TR
BOUGHT NOVEMBER 4TH 2000. NEW TIRES AT 20000. SMELLED EXAHUST WHEN VENTS ARE IN RECYLCE MODE. HAVE A DAMAGED EXAHUST MANIFOLD AT 55,000. DEALER HAS SATED THAT NONE OF THESE ARE UNDER WARRANTY. I HAVE HEARD OF OTHER PEOPLE HAVING SAME PROBLEMS. I BUY TOYOTAS FOR RELIABLITY AND SERVICE. I FEEL THAT I HAVE NOT HAD THE SERVICE NOR THE RELIABILITY EXPECTED. IT WOULD BE A GOOD SIGN OF COMMITTMENT IF TOTYOTA DOES HONOR A SOLUTION TO THESE TWO PROBLEMS, EXAHUST MANIFOLD/EXAHUST ENTERING CABIN. *AK
VEHICLE: 2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2WD. FRONT SUSPENSION PROBLEM. SINCE OBTAINING THE VEHICLE IN APRIL 2001 I NOTICED A PROBLEM IN THE STABILITY OF THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP (I-10 TOYOTA IN INDIO) ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS AND THEY WERE UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE PROBLEM. WHEN I HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL (O5V225000) I ANTICIPATED THAT THIS WAS THE TROUBLE THAT I HAD ALL ALONG WITH THE SEQUOIA. WHEN I LOOKED INTO THE RECALL IT TURNED OUT THAT IT REFERRED TO 2002 TO 2004 VEHICLES ONLY. COMMON SENSE TELLS ME THAT IF THE TROUBLE EXISTED ON SUBSEQUENT MODELS AFTER ITS INCEPTION TO THE MARKET, IT IS ONLY OBVIOUS THAT 2001 MODELS ARE TO BE INCLUDED. I UNDERSTAND THAT RECALL LETTERS WILL BE ISSUED STARTING IN JULY 2005. I AM FILING THIS COMPLAINT BECAUSE I AM AWARE THAT 2001 MODELS WILL NOT BE INCLUDED AND I RESPECTFULLY REQUEST THAT 2001 YEAR MODELS ARE ALSO RECALLED. THE INSTABILITY WITH THE FRONT END CONTINUES. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN CHANGED 3 TIMES TO DIFFERENT TYPES AND THE INSTABILITY CONTINUES. PLEASE VERIFY WITH YOUR INTERNAL ENGINEERS IF THE BALL JOINTS UTILIZED ON 2001 MODELS WERE ANY DIFFERENT THAN LATTER MODELS. YOU WILL FIND THAT THE SAME MECHANISMS HAVE BEEN USED UNTIL NOW THAT THIS ISSUE IS BEING ADDRESSED BY YOUR OFFICE. YOUR ATTENTION AND SUBSEQUENT POSITIVE INCLUSION OF MY PETITION IS APPRECIATED. WHEN ACCELERATING FROM A COMPLETE STOP THERE WAS A HESITATION IN ENGINE. THIS HESITATION ALMOST RESULTED IN SEVERAL VEHICLE CRASHES. DEALERSHIP HAS EXAMINED VEHICLE, BUT COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. INFORMED CONSUMER THIS HESITATION WAS NORMAL. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY ADDITIONAL INFORMATION / DOCUMENTATION. *AK

ANTI- SKID CONTROL SYSTEM MODE SOLENOID SENSOR/ ABS BRAKES CAN ACTIVATE AT ANY RANDOM TIME. CONTACTED DEALER, AND DEALER STATED THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH VEHICLE.*AK THE SKID CONTROL SYSTEM ACTIVATED FIVE TIMES DURING THE FIRST WEEK OF PUCHASE, BUT HAD NOT OCCURED SINCE. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER DOES NOT FEEL CONFORTABLE BECAUSE OF POSSIBILITY OF REOCCURENCE. *YH
SINCE I PURCHASED THE CAR IN 12/2000 (2001 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 4X4) I HAVE HAD THE FOLLOWING RECURRING ISSUES, WHICH WERE BROUGHT UP WITH THE DEALER ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS WITH NO REMEDY: 1) TRAC AND VSC LIGHTS GOING ON/OFF WITH NO ERROR CODES THROWN 2) OIL PRESSURE GAUGE READING OFF-LINE LOW WITH NO ERROR CODES THROWN TO DATE, THE ISSUES ABOVE HAVE NOT CAUSED A CRASH OR BODILY INJURY, BUT AS THIS IS MY FAMILY CAR (TWO YOUNG CHILDREN) IT HAS BEEN CONCERNING. I HAVE BEEN FOLLOWING THE ISSUES WITH THIS CAR, MY 01-07 AND THEY SEEM TO BE KNOWN ISSUES WHICH HAVE ACTUALLY RESULTED IN FIRE/CRASH. I CANNOT FILL OUT THE INCIDENT DATE ACCURATELY BELOW AS THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR A NUMBER OF YEARS (SINCE DELIVERY OF THE VEHICLE). *TR
WHILE TRAVELING A LITTLE TWIG HIT WINDSHIELD. AS A RESULT OF THAT WINDSHIELD HAD A SMALL MARK. ALSO, WHEN TRAVELING SMALL PEBBLES HIT WINDSHIELD, WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED. PLEASE PROVIDE FURTHER INFORMATION.*AK CONSUMER STATES PEBBLE HIT ORIGINAL WINSHIELD, CAUSING DAMAGE, DEALER REPLACED WINDSHIELD AT CONSUMER'S EXPENSE, THE REPLACEMENT WINDSHIELD HAS FOUR CRACKS WHICH HAPPENED WITHIN THE FIRST MONTH OF DRIVING, GLASS COMPANY TESTED GLASS AND GLASS FAILED, CONSUMER STATES NEITHER THE MANUFACTURER OR LOCAL DEALER ARE WILLING TO HELP WITH THE WINDSHIELD. *JB

CONSUMER STATES" EVERY 3000 MILES THE VEHICLE BRAKES ARE BEING REPLACED. DUE TO BRAKE PEDAL HAVING TO BE PRESSED TO THE FLOOR BEFORE THEY STOP VEHICLE. DEALER HAS REPLACED BRAKES AND ROTORS. PLEASE PROVIDE ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. TS
CONSUMER OWNS A 2001 SEQUOIA AND HAS HAD SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKES AND ROTORS. THE CAR STARTED SHAKING WHEN BRAKING AT 20,000 MILES. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT SHOP AND THEY FIXED IT. AGAIN AT 43,000 MILES IT DID THE SAME THING. AGAIN AT 55,000 MILES, THE MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE CALIPERS, FRONT PADS AND DISC. THE DEALER STATED BRAKE REPLACEMENT WAS NOT DONE AT THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE NOT RESPONSIBLE, SORRY. *PH THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE THAT THE BRAKING SYSTEM WAS UNDERSIZED AND REDESIGNED THE SYSTEM WITH LARGER ROTOR AND CALIPERS. *SCC *JB
UPON STARTING VEHICLE AND PROCEEDING TO DRIVE CONSUMER NOTICED DASHBOARD INDICATOR LIGHT STAYED ON. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT UKNOWN SPEED AND DEPRESSING BRAKE PEDAL VEHICLE WENT INTO EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT HIGH SPEEDS EXHAUST FUMES ENTERED INTO THE CAB OF THE VEHICLE. *AK
