WE HAVE A 2002 SEQUOIA. I HAVE HAD THE ROTORS REPLACED THREE TIME AT 18,277, 28,460 AND NOW AT 42,463. THE FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS VIBRATING A LITTLE, EACH TIME THE SOUND AND NOISE GET WORSE. *AK
WHILE ON VACATION IN FLORIDA, OUR 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA JUST FROZE UP. IT WOULD NOT MOVE. LUCKILY, NO ONE WAS HURT, HOWEVER, WHEN THE TOW TRUCK FINALLY CAME, THE ONLY WAS TO GET IT UP ON THE FLATBED WAS TO DRIVE IT ON BACKWARDS. IT TURNS OUT ALL THE BOLTS WERE LOOSE ON THE CALIPERS. THE ONLY PEOPLE THAT HAD WORKED ON MY CAR WAS THE TOYOTA DEALER AFTER A COMPLAINT I HAD AT 15,000 MILES. I HAVE SINCE HAD MY TOYOTA DEALER LOOK AT IT, AND THEY SERVICED IT AGAIN AFTER RECEIVING SERVICE BULLETINS ON THE SUBJECT. GET THOSE BRAKES LOOKED AT EVERY TIME YOU SERVICE YOUR VEHICLE.*AK
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5. DURING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE AT 60,000 MILES, HE WAS ADVISED THAT THE ENTIRE REAR LEFT AND RIGHT AXLE ASSEMBLY WAS CORRODED. THE LEFT AND RIGHT REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY, AND THE OXYGEN SENSOR WERE REPLACED UNDER THE WARRANTY. IN 2004 THE FAILURE RESURFACED. THE COST FOR THE REPAIR WAS $3,000.00. HOWEVER AT 90,000 MILES THE GARAGE DISCOVERED THAT THE UNDER FRAME CARRIAGE WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. A SAND BLAST MIGHT CORRECT THE FAILURE, BUT IT WAS NOT GUARANTEED. HE CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THEY WERE AWARE OF PREMATURE CORROSION, BUT THEY WOULD NOT PROVIDE ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
THE FRONT BRAKES SEEM TO WEAR OUT AT AN EXCELERATED RATE. I HAD THE FRONT ROTORS REPLACED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD UNDER 30,000 MILES, DO TO GOUGING OF THE ROTORS. THE VEHICLE IS NOW JUST OVER 30,000 MILES AND THE VCS LIGHT COMES ON, AND ANTI-SKID ACTIVATES, AND WHEN I PRESS ON THE BRAKES THERE IS HORRIBLE VIBRATIONS AND GRINDING.*AK
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. SINCE DECEMBER 2002, I HAVE EXPERIENCED A PROBLEM WITH THE 4-WD SYSTEM ON THE VEHICLE. THE 4-WD PROBLEM WAS ORIGINALLY NOTICED BY ME IN LATE NOVEMBER 2002. I TOOK THE SEQUOIA BACK TO THE DEALER OF PURCHASE (BURT TOYOTA), HOWEVER THE PROBLEM WAS INCORRECTLY DIAGNOSED. SUBSEQUENTLY, SEEKING A SECOND OPINION I BROUGHT THE SEQUOIA TO STEVENSON TOYOTA EAST. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN WAS ABLE TO VERIFY AND DOCUMENT THE PROBLEM WITH THE 4WD SYSTEM. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO FIX THE PROBLEM AND THE ISSUE WAS FORWARDED TO TOYOTA ENGINEERING FOR A RESOLUTION. I WAS ADVISED AND SHOWN THAT THE PROBLEM WAS ENTERED INTO THE TOYOTA SERVICE COMPUTER SYSTEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT ONCE TOYOTA DETERMINES A RESOLUTION I WILL BE NOTIFIED AND THE PROBLEM COVERED AS A WARRANTY ISSUE. TO DATE, I HAVE HAD NO CONTACT FROM TOYOTA, YET THE PROBLEM CONTINUES TO EXIST. THE 4WD PROBLEM CONSISTENTLY OCCURS IN COLD WEATHER WITH TEMPERATURES BELOW 30 DEGREES F. I HAVE FOUND DURING WARMER TEMPERATURES, ABOVE 50 DEGREES F, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN NOTICED. DURING COLD WEATHER, FREQUENTLY THE VSC ON, VSC OFF AND BRAKE LIGHT INDICATORS REMAIN LIT ON THE DASHBOARD WHILE DRIVING. SOMETIMES THE CENTER YELLOW INDICATOR IN THE 4WD DISPLAY ALSO FLASHES YELLOW. THE RESOLUTION TO THIS CONDITION MOST OF THE TIME, IS ONCE THE CAR IS COMPLETELY WARMED UP TO STOP, SHUT OFF THE IGNITION AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. MOSTLY, WE WATCH IT ALL THE WAY ON THE COMMUTE HOME AND TO WORK AS THERE ARE NOT MANY PLACES TO STOP ALONG THE HIGHWAY! IN 2WD MODE, THERE IS A NOTICEABLE GRINDING /WHINING COMING FROM THE FRONT TRANSFER CASE. THIS IS ESPECIALLY NOTICEABLE AT LOW SPEEDS. IT SOUNDS AS IF THE FRONT TRANSFER CASE IS PARTIALLY ENGAGED. THE RESOLUTION TO THE NOISE IS TO PLACE THE VEHICLE IN 4WD MODE. THE SOUND THEN SEEMS TO GO AWAY.*AK
EXCESSIVE WEAR ON FRONT BRAKE PADS. AT 35000 MILES THE FRONT BRAKES WERE WORN DOWN TO 10%; THE REAR PADS WERE ONLY WORN DOWN TO 70%. THE DEALER DID NOT THINK THIS IS A PROBLEM, BUT IT WOULD APPEAR THAT THE REAR BRAKES ARE DOING NO WORK TO STOP THE CAR. I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA, SR5, 4X4.*AK
I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2 WHEEL DRIVE - THE VSC AND TRAC OFF LIGHTS COME ON AND OFF RANDOMLY. I HAVE TAKEN IT IN SEVERAL TIMES AND COMPLAINED OF THIS ISSUE. THE FIRST TIME (WITH ABOUT 15000 MILES) I WAS TOLD FRONT BRAKES NEEDED REPLACED - WHICH I DID. PROBLEM RETURNED AND WHEN I TAKE IT IN, DEALER SAYS THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, SO THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG, THEY ARE IGNORING IT. *LA
WHILE DRIVING AND WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKES BRAKE PEDAL IS DELAYED, RESULTING IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. *AK
WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH A VERY STRONG VIBRATION, SUDDENLY THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE WHEEL CAME OFF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED, SERIOUS INJURIES TO THE DRIVER. THE AIR BAGS SYSTEMS NEVER ACTIVATED. THE COMPUTER HAVE AN IMPACT CODE, BUT THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY. *JB
WHERE TO BEGIN. WE HAVE HAD ON-GOING PROBLEMS WITH THE SEQUOIA. FORTUNATELY, THE DEALER ADDRESSED ALL BUT THE LAST ISSUE DUE TO THEIR PROXIMITY TO THE WARRANTY EXPIRING. FIRST PROBLEM WAS THE AIR CONDITIONER SEIZED. $1500 BILL DODGED. SECOND PROBLEM, THE BRAKES WORE OUT AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. WE WERE ADVISED TO TAKE THE VEHICLE OUT OF OVERDRIVE WHEN GOING DOWN HILL AT THE COST OF FUEL EFFICIENCY. $1,000 BILL DODGED, BUT I'M PAYING FOR IT IN LOSS OF MPG. LASTLY, THE FLIP-SEAT WHICH ALLOWS PASSENGERS TO ACCESS THE REAR-MOST SEAT IS BROKEN AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED/REPAIRED TO THE TUNE OF $800! I'LL HAVE TO EAT THAT ONE.
STRONG SMELL OF SULFUR INSIDE OF CAR. OCCURS EVEN WHEN AC SYSTEM IS SET ON RECIRCULATE. CONCERNED ABOUT PASSENGER SAFETY IF EXHAUST FUMES ARE ENTERING VEHICLE. TOYOTA SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID AT FIRST THAT IT WAS "NORMAL" AND WOULD DISAPPEAR WITHIN 3000 - 5000 MILES OF DRIVING. WHEN SMELL WAS STILL THERE AT 10,000 MILES, WAS TOLD THAT THE SMELL IS "NORMAL" AND IS RELATED TO USING LOW OCTANE GAS. I NOW HAVE 25,000 MILES AND SWITCHED TO 93 OCTANE GAS AND STILL HAVE CONTINUING PROBLEMS WITH SMELL, IT MAY EVEN BE WORSE NOW THAN IT WAS AT FIRST. IT IS VERY EMBARRASSING WITH PASSENGERS IN THE CAR.*AK
THE VEHICLE WAS PLACED INTO PARK WITH THE ENGINE RUNNING, WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT ROLLED BACKWARDS.*AK THE ENGINE WAS LEFT RUNNING IN THE PARK POSITION WHEN IT ROLLED OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY STRUCK THE CONSUMER AS HE/SHE WAS TRYING TO STOP IT AND CRASHED INTO A TREE *SCC *JB
THE BRAKES ON MY 2002 TOYATA SEQUOIA IS FAILING OR HAS FAILED. THERE ARE SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ON THE WEBSITES AND TOYOTA HAVE SOME SERVICE BULLETINS OUT. I CONSIDER THIS A VERY SERIOUS SAFTEY PROBLEM AND WOULD LIKE TO SEE AN INVESTIGATION AND POSSIBLE RECALL ON THIS VEHICLE.
CONSUMER WAS DRIVING 15-25 MPH ACROSS AN INTERSECTION WHEN ANOTHER VEHICLE MADE A LEFT TURN INTO THE INTERSECTION. THE CONSUMER'S VEHICLE BROAD SIDED THE OTHER VEHICLE ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. THE CONSUMER SUSTAINED HEAD AND NECK INJURIES ALONG WITH ANOTHER PASSENGER IN THE VEHICLE. SEAT BELTS WERE WORN, BUT THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. THE MANUFACTURER AND THE DEALER WERE NOTIFIED. *AK *SCC *JB *JB
VSC DASH LIGHT ("IDIOT LIGHT") HAS BEEN CONSISTENTLY ON NOW FOR THE LAST 10,000 MILES (CURRENT ODOMETER = 51,000 +/-). THE LIGHT WAS ON INTERMITTENTLY STARTING BEFORE THE VEHICLE WAS 1-1/2 YEARS OLD (<25,000 MILES.) *JB IN ADDITION TO THE VSC LIGHT, THE 'BRAKE' LIGHT STAYS ON (ORIGINALLY ILLUMINATED ONLY WHEN THE PARKING BRAKE WAS ENGAGED.), PLUS THE ABS LIGHT IS CONSISTENTLY LIT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA MORE THAN ONCE WITH THE VSC/ABS/BRAKE LIGHTS COMPLAINT, BUT TOYOTA WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE ANY PROBLEM UNTIL A SERVICE PERFORMED AFTER THE 36,000 MI WARRANTY EXPIRED, AT WHICH POINT THE DEALER THOUGHT AN ABS COMPUTER REPLACEMENT MIGHT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER DID NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER THIS 36,000 MILE POINT DESPITE INTERMITTENT EVENTS OCCURRING VERY EARLY ON.
WHEN BRAKING GET VIBRATION AND WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA DEALER ROTORS ARE WARPED AND NEED TO BE CHANGED. CAR HAS APPROXIMATELY. 26K MILES AND WAS TOLD TOYOTA WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER WHICH SEEMS STRANGE TO ME. I HAVE NOTICED SEEMS TO BE A PROBLEM BASED ON INTERNET SEARCHES. *NLM
THE LOCK TO THE REAR HATCH WILL NOT OPEN. WITH THIS PROBLEM I'M NOT ABLE TO GET TO MY SPARE TIRE. THE REAR HATCH HAS TO BE OPEN IN ORDER TO CRANK THE SPARE TIRE DOWN FROM ITS STORAGE SPOT UNDER THE TRUCK. *TR
THE FRONT BRAKE ROTORS HAVE WARPED FOR THE SECOND TIME CAUSING EXCESSIVE FRONT END VIBRATION WHEN BRAKING. THE STEERING WHEEL OSCILLATES TO THE EXTENT THAT BRAKING FROM HIGHWAY SPEEDS IS UNSTABLE. I HAD TO RESURFACE BOTH FRONT ROTORS AT 8500 AND 22000 MILES TO REMOVE RUN OUT. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE FOR A $40K VEHICLE THAT HAS ONLY SEEN NORMAL USE AND IS REGULARLY MAINTAINED. *AK
PLASTIC PASSENGER SIDE DOOR HANDLE FAILED IN FATIGUE (CRACK), PREVENTING DOOR FROM BEING OPENED FROM THE INSIDE. VEHICLE IS 2002 TOYOTA CAMRY. DEALER REPLACED HANDLE WITHOUT CHARGE, BUT THIS IS A DANGEROUS CONDITION. *JB
THE LOCK ON THE REAR DOOR IS BROKEN AND THERE'S NO WAY TO OPEN DOOR. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE ANYONE SITTING IN THE THIRD ROW OF THE TRUCK HAS NO WAY TO GET OUT OF TRUCK,ALSO YOU CAN'T GET TO SPARE TIRE IF YOU HAVE A FLAT. THE REAR WINDOW WILL NOT OPEN EITHER. TOOK IT TO BE REPAIR AND THE PARTS ARE ON ORDER AND THE DEALER WANTS 850.00 DOLLARS TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM. THIS LOCK IS SUPPOSE TO BE STAINLESS STEEL AND ENCLOSED IN A COMPARTMENT WHERE IT SHOULDN'T RUST. *TR
OUR 2002 TOYOTA SEQOUIA LIMITED HAS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THE AIR CODITIONING SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM DOES NOT BLOW AIR COLD ENOUGH TO COOL THE INTERIOR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALER 5 TIMES IN THE LAST TWO MONTHS. THE ENTIRE SYSTEM HAS BEEN REPLACED AND "RETROFITTED." DURING OUR LAST CONVERSATION WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER, HE STATED THAT THIS IS A COMMON COMPLAINT WITH THE SEQUOIA AND THAT TOYOTA USA HAS ISSUED A BULLETIN STATING THAT AIR TEMPERATURE IN THE RANGE OF 55 TO 58 DEGREES IS TO BE EXPECTED. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE! THE AVERAGE DAILY SUMMER TEMPERATURE HERE IS 100 DEGREES. LAST SUMMER THE SYSTEM WORKED SO WELL WE RARELY RAN IT ON HIGH. THIS SUMMER WE ARE LUCKY TO COOL THE CAR AT ALL. WHERE DO WE GO FROM HERE?
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE SWAYED FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. *NLM.
I HAVE A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHEN I BRAKE THE FRONT END VIBRATES ALMOST UNTIL A COMPLETE STOP. THE PROBLEM IS PERSISTENT AND I'M CONCERNED BECAUSE IT ULTIMATELY RESULTS IN LONGER TIME TO STOP AND REDUCED BRAKING ABILITY. *NLM
BRAKES/SEAL I BROUGHT THE TRUCK IN FOR 15,000 MILE CHECKUP. THIS IS FROM THE REPAIR REPORT: "OIL LEAK FROM REAR AXLE SEAL WAS LEAKING. REMOVED BOTH SIDE AXLE SHAFT ASSEMBLIES DUE TO ONE SIDE WAS LEAKING WORSE THAN THE OTHER. REPLACED AXLE SEALS ON AXLE HOUSING INSIDE. ALSO NEEDED TO REPLACE REAR PADS AND TURN REAR ROTORS DUE TO GREASE BUILD UP ON SURFACES FROM AXLE SEALS LEAKING." THIS CAUSED LUBRICANT/FLUID TO COAT THE BREAK PADS PROVIDING NO FRICTION; NO REAR BREAKS. I SPOKE TO DEALER AT COLONIAL TOYOTA AND THEY MENTIONED THAT THEY HAD HEARD OF SIMILAR INCIDENTS BUT HAD NEVER WORKED ON ONE BEFORE. ALSO SAID IT WAS A FACTORY DEFECT THAT COULD BE FIXED. *NLM
CONSUMER STATES THAT BRAKE ROTORS ARE WEARING, AND WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKES, VEHICLE WILL HAVE HEAVY VIBRATION AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. DEALER NOTIFIED. *AK
REAR WINDSHIELD WIPER MAKE A NOISE. TOYOTA RECOMMENDS BENDING ARM. I HAVE HAD IT BENT AND REPLACED. *NLM
BETWEEN 5000 AND 10000 MILES A BRAKE SQUEAL (REAR PASSENGER SIDE) BEGAN. DURING 10000 MILE SERVICE THE SERVICE DEPT AT THE DEALERSHIP CHECKED THE BRAKE AND "CLEANED". THE SQUEAL STOPPED FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS. DURING 15000 MILE CHECK THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT CHECKED THE BRAKE AND "CLEANED". AGAIN THE SQUEAL STOPPED FOR ABOUT 4 DAYS. DURING THE 20000 MILE CHECK THE "CLEANING" WAS PERFORMED AGAIN. AFTER ABOUT 4 DAYS THE SQUEAL RETURNED. I AM DRIVING A NEW SIENNA WITH A TERRIBLE BRAKE SQUEAL. GOOD ADVERTISEMENT FOR TOYOTA !!! THE SERVICE DEPT SAYS IT CAN'T BE FIXED. I THINK ON A NEW VEHICLE THE BRAKE SHOULD BE REPLACED. *JB
I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY VSC/TRAC OFF LIGHT SINCE WE BOUGHT IT. THE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AT SEEMINGLY RANDOM TIMES, STAY ON UNTIL I RESTARTED THE TRUCK - WE WERE TOLD IT WAS NOT SOMETHING WE NEEDED TO WORRY ABOUT BY THE DEALERSHIPS IN FORT WORTH (FORT WORTH TOYOTA). RECENTLY (2/2014 & 3/2014), AS I WAS COMING DOWN A HILL IN OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, APPROACHING A STOP SIGN, THERE WAS A GRINDING SOUND AND THE VEHICLE WOULD SEEM TO BE STOPPING INSTEAD OF ACCELERATING - AND THE VSC LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN. I IMMEDIATELY PULLED OVER AND STOPPED; I COULDN'T SEE ANYTHING WRONG UNDER THE HOOD OR NEAR THE WHEEL WELLS, WHICH IS WHERE IT SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS COMING FROM. IT DID NOT CONTINUE AND DID NOT HAPPEN AGAIN FOR ABOUT A WEEK. THE NEXT TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AT ABOUT 70 MPH. IT GRINDED FOR ABOUT A SECOND AND SLOWED ME DOWN ABRUPTLY, THEN STOPPED GRINDING. PRETTY HAIRY SITUATION, GOING 70 AND HAVING YOUR BRAKES SLOW YOU DOWN. I HAVE NOT HAD THE ISSUE LOOKED AT BY A TECHNICIAN YET AND AM NOT DRIVING THE TRUCK. IN RESEARCHING IT, I FOUND HUNDREDS OF ONLINE COMPLAINTS AND A RECALL FOR THE 2003 MODEL YEAR ON YOUR WEBSITE. [NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V176000 ] OBVIOUSLY, THE 2002 MODEL YEAR SHOULD HAVE BEEN INCLUDED, AS I AM SEEING THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM. *TR
TL* - THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL 05V225000 CONCERNING THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS INVOLVED IN A CRASH 04/2004 WHILE TRYING TO AVOID HITTING ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE CONTACT DID NOT BELIEVE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS COMPLETELY REPAIRED AFTER THE CRASH, AND SHE FELT THAT THIS PLAYED A PART IN THE SECOND CRASH ,WHERE THE VSTEERING DID NOT RESPOND. DURING EACH OF THE CRASHES, THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 20 - 45 MPH ,AND THE WEATHER WAS NOT A FACTOR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 56,000. *AK
TOYOTA IS ADVISING BRAKES NEED TO BE REPLACED. CAR HAS 260000 MILES ON IT AND IS 1YR OLD. HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT BRAKE ISSUE TO TOYOTA AT 15000 MILES. NO SOLUTION TOYOTA DID NOTHING. BRAKES MAKE GRINDING NOISE LIKE GRAVEL. ALSO THE VSC SYSTEM ENGAGES AND DOES NOT TAKE POWER FROM DRIVE TRAIN, RESULT IN VERY LOUD METAL SHEARING NOISES FROM UNDERCARRIAGE. TOYOTA IS SAYING THIS IS NORMAL. TOYOTA IS ADVISING THE AVG LIFE OF BRAKES ON THIS CAR IS APPROX 20000 MILES THERE IS A MAJOR DESIGN ERROR BETWEEN THE VCS AND THE ABS BRAKE SYSTEM RESULTING POOR BRAKE LIFE AND THIS CAN NOT BE A SAFE SITUATION WHEN VSC DOES NOT RELEASE POWER TO BRAKES WHEN IT ACTIVATES. VCS ALSO ACTIVATES AT DROP OF A HAT. GENERAL BRAKE DESIGN MUST HAVE MAJOR DESIGN FLAW IF AVG LIFE IS ONLY 20000 MILES. *NLM
I OWN A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED WITH SERIOUS FRONT BRAKE PROBLEMS. I PURCHASED THE 2002 SEQUOIA TRUCK NEW IN OCTOBER OF 2001. AT 12,000-14,000 MILES, THE FRONT BRAKES WOULD VIBRATE AND GRIND VERY BADLY. THE VSC ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT DUE TO IT WOULD ACTIVATE FOR NO REASON AND I WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE DEALER NEW ABOUT THE BRAKE PROBLEM AND REPLACED THE FRONT ROTORS AND PADS. FRONT BRAKES WORKED GREAT AFTER REPLACING THE PARTS. CURRENTLY I AM AT 30,000 MILES, THE SAME BRAKE PROBLEM AGAIN. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO A MECHANIC JUST FOR AN INSPECTION AND THE PADS LOOK NEW AND THE ROTORS NOW HAVE GOUGES IN THEM. THE BRAKES SQUEAL VERY LOUD AND THE METAL GRINDING VIBRATION IS BACK AGAIN. MY SISTER HAS THE SAME EXACT MODEL AND YEAR, HER BRAKES ARE DOING THE EXACT SAME THING. *JB

THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ON MY 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IS DANGEROUS. IT CUTS ENGINE POWER AND TRACTION TO THE REAR WHEELS UNDER ACCELERATION IN SLIPPERY CONDITIONS. MY 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA IS EMITTING A FOUL, ROTTEN EGG, SULFUROUS SMELL FROM THE EXHAUST. MY VEHICE ONLY HAS 2000 MILES ON IT AND THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER HAS BEEN REPLACED ONCE. I COTACTED THE MANUFACTURER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SMELL IS A BI-PRODUCT OF THE SULFUR IN THE FUEL NOT BEING COMPLETELY BURNED IN THE CONVERTER. I WAS ASKED TO USE HIGHER OCTANE FUEL AND THAT DID NOT SOLVE THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER IS TELLING THE DEALER THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE SITUATION AND THEY ARE INVESTIGATING IT. I DID NOTICE THE SMELL ON OTHER SEQUOIAS.

TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNKNOWN SPEED THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL ACTIVATED AT A LOW SPEED FOR A FEW SECONDS. HE STATED THAT HIS VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE AS QUICKLY AS HE THOUGHT WHICH INCREASED THE RISK OF A CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR THE FAILURE. HE WAS ADVISED THAT HIS VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY NOR WERE THERE ANY RELATED RECALLS. HE WAS ALSO INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING AS NORMAL. THE CONTACT REFERENCED RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 10V176000, TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM THAT WAS A RECALL FOR THE 2003 VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. DT: 2002 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE BRAKE ROTORS AND PADS WORE OUT QUICKLY. THIS CAUSED SHAKING IN THE STEERING AND EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 12-12-2002, AND THEY REPLACED THE CALIPER ASSEMBLY, THE FRONT CALIPERS, BACK PLATE, AND BEARINGS. THIS PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN ON 8-5-2004. HOWEVER, WARRANTY EXPIRED. CONSUMER TOOK VEHICLE TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALER BECAUSE THE FRONT END VIBRATED AGAIN AND THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE BRAKES PADS AND MACHINED THE ROTORS. THE THIRD TIME WAS ON 7-29-05, THE ROTORS, CALIPERS ,AND PADS WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT. THE VEHICLE IS CURRENTLY BEING REPAIRED AT THE DEALERSHIP. THERE IS TSB BR0052 ON THIS ISSUE. WHEN CONSUMER CONTACTED THE MANUFACTURER, THEY SAID THAT THEY WOULD SEND AN ATTENTION NOTICE ABOUT THE TSB TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY TOLD CONSUMER WHEN HE GOT TO THE DEALERSHIP THAT HE SHOULD TALK TO THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE , WHO WAS UNAVAILABLE AT THE TIME HE CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP. AS OF NOW THE CONSUMER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE CONTACT THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE . *AK

DT: IN SEPTEMBER 2002 THE OWNER WENT TO OPEN THE DOOR HANDLE AND IT FELL OFF IN HER HAND. IT WAS THE DRIVER'S DOOR HANDLE THAT BROKE. THEN THE OWNER CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND MADE APPOINTMENT FOR REPAIRS. T THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE DOOR HANDLE WITHOUT CHARGE SINCE THE CAR WAS UNDER WARRANTY. THEN, IN JUNE 2005 THERE WAS A PASSENGER WHO GOT OF OUT OF THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR AND THE DOOR WOULDN'T CLOSE. THE OWNER GOT IT TO CLOSE BY USING A BUNGEE CORD. IN JUNE WHILE OWNER WAS DRIVING ON A MAIN ROAD THE PASSENGER'S DOOR OPENED. THE OWNER DID NOT KNOW WHAT CAUSED THE DOOR TO OPEN. THE DEALERSHIP REPAIRED THE INSIDE DOOR LATCH FOR ABOUT $300. THEN, LAST WEEK THE OWNER WAS TRYING TO OPEN THE HATCH BACK AND COULDN'T GET THE HATCHBACK DOOR OPEN. THE OWNER CALLED THE MANUFACTURER. TOYOTA WILL PAY FOR THE PART, BUT THE OWNER WILL PAY FOR THE LABOR. HOWEVER, THE OWNER WAS WORRIED THAT THE DOORS COULD OPEN WHILE DRIVING. AT 12000 MILES BRAKES WERE COMPLETELY WORN OUT. CONSUMER HAD TO REPLACE ROTORS, AND WAS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEAR, AT 20000 MILES THE SECOND SET OF BRAKES WERE REPLACED. *AK *NLM
AT APPROXIMATELY 8000 MILES AND JUST 3 MONTHS SINCE NEW, THE FRONT WHELLS STARTED TO VIBRATE DURING BRAKING AND DARK SOOT DEPOSITS SEEN ON FRONT WHEEL RIMS. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER FOR SERVICE CHECK AND WAS TOLD ROTORS WERE WARPED FROM OVERHEATING AND WAS A KNOWN PROBLEM. DEALER INSTALLED BRAKE UPGRADE PACKAGE (LARGER DESIGN BRAKE CALIPERS AND PADS) AND TURNED BRAKE ROTORS OFFERED FREE OF CHARGE BY TOYOYA. VEHICLE HAS SINCE BEEN DRIVEN FOR 3 MONTHS WITH NEW UPGRADE PACKAGE INSTALLED AND FRONT WHEELS ARE AGAIN VIBRATING SAME AS ORIGINAL DESIGN PROBLEM.
