03 TOYOTA SEQUOIA OIL GAUGE FAILED TO WORK AND REAR WINDOW WILL NOT ROLL DOWN. *TR
TOYOTA HAS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM WITH THEIR VSC SYSTEM. MY DEALER WANTS $1800 TO FIX WHAT TOYOTA KNOWS IS A HUGE WIDESPREAD PROBLEM FOR TOYOTA TUNDRA/SEQUOIA. THIS IS RIDICULOUS AND TOYOTA NEEDS TO REPLACE THE VSC COMPUTER AND ENGINE CONTROL COMPUTER (ECC) FOR FREE. WHAT A BUNCH OF NON-SENSE! *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AS OF NOVEMBER 16, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT FELT THAT THE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CAUSED THE FAILURE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 25,869.
2003 SEQUOIA BOUGHT IN NOV 2002. CURRENTLY ONLY HAVE 20,474 MILES. 1-1/2 YRS AFTER BUYING CAR, BRAKE LIGHT KEPT COMING ON. TOOK TO 3 DIFFERENT DEALERSHIP AND NO ONE COULD FIGURE OUT WHAT WAS WRONG. FINALLY, ON 4TH ATTEMPT, THEY SAID IT WAS SKID CONTROL BOARD. THEY INITIALLY TRIED TO CHARGE ME TO FIX IT, BUT ENDED UP DOING UNDER "GOOD WILL." NOW, A FEW MONTHS LATER, THE ABS, VSC AND TRACK LIGHTS ARE COMING ON AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID I NEED TO REPLACE THE YAW SENSOR. THEY KNOW AND I KNOW IT IS ALL RELATED TO THE SKID CONTROL SYSTEM, BUT THEY WANT TO CHARGE 423.00 + TAX TO REPLACE IT. I THINK IT SHOULD BE FREE, CONSIDERING THE COMMON PROBLEM THEY HAVE WITH THE SKID CONTROL SYSTEM. MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND I DON'T HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY. *JB

9/07 - A LOAD NOISE SOUNDED AND THE VEHICLES BRAKES AND STEERING LOCKED UP ON ME WHILE I WAS ACCELERATING AND APPROACHING A 4 WAY STOP LIGHT. I TOOK THE VEHICLE IN TO FOLSOM LAKE TOYOTA FOR SERVICE THAT DAY. THEY TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM, MAYBE IT WAS DO TO A LOW CHARGE FROM THE BATTERY. SO I HAD THEM REPLACE THE BATTERY. 10/1/07 A FEW WEEKS LATER I WAS ACCELERATING AND GOING ON TO THE FREEWAY WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE NOISE SOUNDED THE STEERING AND BRAKES LOCKED UP AND ALL MY ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON THEN I COMPLETELY LOST POWER. I COASTED TO THE SIDE TURNED OFF THE KEY AND TURNED IT BACK ON AGAIN NOTHING HAPPENED SO I TURNED IT OFF AND ON AGAIN AND IT WAS WORKING AGAIN. I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK TO FOLSOM LAKE TOYOTA AND 3 WEEKS LATER THEY STILL CAN NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH MY VEHICLE. *TR
ABS BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. *JB
VSC/ABS SKID CONTROL ECU FAILURE. THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING THAT MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LIMITED 2 WD 53,500 MILES NEEDS A NEW ABS COMPUTER AT A COST OF $3,600. APPROXIMATELY 2 YEARS AGO I HAD THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPEN, THE CAR ACTUALLY FROZE UP AND THE DEALERSHIP HAD IT TOWED TO THEIR LOCATION TO FIX IT, THEY SAID IT WAS THE THIRD MEMBER AND REPLACED THAT. NOW THE SAME THING IS HAPPENING AND THEY WON'T DO ANYTHING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 25 MPH, MY 2003 LIMITED TOYOTA SEQUOIA 4WD VEHICLE LOST POWER, CUTTING THE ENGINE OFF IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD. PLACING VEHICLE INTO PARK, THEN ATTEMPTING TO RESTART VEHICLE WOULD NOT RESULT IN RESTART OF VEHICLE. HAD TO HAVE VEHICLE MOVED OUT OF HEAVY TRAFFIC MANUALLY, THEN TOWED TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. DEALER FOUND EFI FUSE NUMBER 1 BLOWN, REPLACED, FUSE BLEW AGAIN AT DEALERSHIP, REPLACED FUSE A 2ND TIME AND THE VEHICLE HASN'T BLOWN THE FUSE SINCE (A COUPLE OF DAYS LATER). DEALER NOTED THEY DO NOT KNOW WHY EFI FUSE BLEW EITHER TIME. *JB
THE BRAKES ON MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA ARE OBVIOUSLY UNDERSIZED FOR THE VEHICLE WEIGHT. ALTHOUGH FACTORY EQUIPPED FOR TOWING, THIS IS EXASPERATED WHEN PULLING A TRAILER. THERE IS NO WAY I CAN STOP IF FOLLOWING AT THE RECOMMENDED INTERVAL AND THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME STOPS HARD. I HAVE HAD TO VEER ONTO THE SHOULDER NUMEROUS TIMES TO AVOID A REAR-END COLLISION, AND I MAINTAIN A GREATER DISTANCE THAN IS SUGGESTED BETWEEN MY VEHICLE AND THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I FEEL THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. TOYOTA HAS ADMITTED A DESIGN FLAW BY ISSUING A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN ON HOW TO INSTALL LARGER BRAKES ON THIS VEHICLE. *TR
2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA: VSC, ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS WARNING LIGHTS ARE ON, REPAIR WAS MORE THAN $600. JB
2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH VSC WARNING AND ENGINE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. CUSTOMER STATES THEY CAME ON AFTER HE HIT A BUMP IN THE ROAD. DEALER SAID IT WAS FINE AND IF THEY DIDN'T GO OFF CALL FOR AN APPOINTMENT. MECHANIC DETERMINED IT WAS THE OXYGEN SENSOR WAS FROZEN IN THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD.. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER BEGAN HITTING THE WINDSHIELD WIPER LEVER WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE. UPON REMOVING THE PLASTIC COVERING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN THE DEALER DISCOVERED THAT THE SHAFT LEVER AND ASSEMBLY WAS COMPLETELY BROKEN ON ONE SIDE AND HANGING BY A THREAD ON THE OTHER. *TR
2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA (2WD) WITHOUT WARNING THE VSC/TRAC SYSTEM ENGAGED WHILE TURNING ON DRY PAVEMENT CAUSING A LOSS IN ACCELERATION. THIS WAS THE INITIAL INCIDENT WHICH WAS FOLLOWED BY MULTIPLE OTHER INCIDENTS AT RANDOM INTERVALS. INCIDENTS OCCURRED WHILE MAKING BOTH LEFT AND RIGHT TURNS FROM A TURNING OR STOPPING POSITION. TRAC OFF "BUTTON" DOES NOT DISENGAGE THE SYSTEM AS INDICATED IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL FROM A LOW SPEED. LOCAL DEALERSHIP RAN DIAGNOSTIC TEST AND RECOMMENDED NEW TIRES/BRAKES BUT COULD NOT IDENTIFY ANY "PROBLEMS" WITH THE VSC SYSTEM OTHER THAN THE VSC SYSTEM HAD ENGAGED. AFTER 4 NEW TIRES AND NEW REAR BRAKES WERE INSTALLED SERVICE TECH DROVE VEHICLE AND EXPERIENCED THE ISSUE. HE RECOMMENDED DOCUMENTING WHEN THE INCIDENTS OCCURRED AND UNDER WHAT CIRCUMSTANCES IN ORDER TO DETERMINE REPAIR OPTIONS. THE VSC SYSTEM CONTINUES TO ENGAGE RANDOMLY CAUSING A LOSS IN ACCELERATION WHEN THIS OCCURS AND IS DANGEROUS IF DRIVER HAS NEED TO PULL INTO TRAFFIC IN INSTANCES SUCH AS TURNING ONTO MAJOR ROADWAYS. *TR
THE REAR LATCH OF THE VEHICLE ROTTED OUT AND THE TAILGATE OPENED WHILE ON THE HIGHWAY, ALSO THE TWO FRONT DOOR HANDLES CRACKED ON THE INSIDE AT SEPARATE TIMES NOT ALLOWING YOU TO GET OUT OF THE VEHICLE FROM THE INSIDE. THE NEW HANDLES AND LATCH WERE REPLACED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE IS AWARE THAT THE FRONT SUSPENSION LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE UNDER RECALL. HE IS CURRENTLY OVERSEAS AND CANNOT GET HIS VEHICLE SERVICED AT THIS TIME. THERE HAVE BEEN NO FAILURES TO DATE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000.
THE VSC/TRAC ERROR LIGHT ON MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH 80,000MI IS ILLUMINATED AND THE TRAC SYSTEMS IS ENGAGING RANDOMLY CAUSING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE TO SHAKE VIOLENTLY AND IT IS DIFFICULT TO CONTROL THE VEHICLE WHEN THIS HAPPENS. I HAVE ALMOST BEEN INVOLVED IN AN ACCIDENT SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE OF THE PROBLEM. THE DEALERSHIP SAID THE COMPUTER WILL HAVE TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1800. I SPOKE WITH THE PREVIOUS OWNER AND SHE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP ON 4 DIFF OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM BUT IT WAS NEVER CORRECTED. AT THE TIME IT WOULD HAVE BEEN UNDER WARRANTY. AFTER CONDUCTING SOME RESEARCH ON THE WEB I HAVE FOUND 250+ PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM WITH THEIR SEQUOIAS (MOST OF THEM WERE MODELS FROM 2001-2003). I FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING CAUSING THIS TO HAPPEN AND A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN ISSUED. THE FIRST INCIDENCES ARE OCCURRING AT LESS THAN 13,000 MILES. MY VEHICLE IS ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND THE COMPUTER SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN THAT. I VALUE TOYOTA AND THE QUALITY OF VEHICLES THEY PRODUCE AND I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY CUSTOMERS ARE BEING REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE COMPUTERS AFTER SUCH A SHORT PERIOD OF TIME. THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM AND TOYOTA SHOULD BE TAKING CARE OF IT. *TR
I WAS DRIVING MY CAR AS USUAL TO CHURCH ON SUNDAY 7/29/2007 WHEN I NOTICED MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, THE TRAC OFF LIGHT AND THE VSC LIGHTS WERE ON AFTER READING THE OWNERS MANUAL I DETERMINED THAT THE CAR NEEDED TO BE TAKEN TO TOYOTA. I TOOK THE CAR IN AND WAS TOLD THAT THE REPAIR WAS NOT COVERED AND IT WOULD COST ME ALMOST 2500.00 TO REPAIR. WHEN TALKING TO THE ASSOCIATE, HE EXPLAINED TO ME THAT THE SYSTEMS THAT HAD GONE BAD HAD TO DO WITH THE WAY THE VEHICLE WILL BE CONTROLLED WHILE DRIVING AND THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. WHEN I QUESTIONED HIM ABOUT THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THE VEHICLE HE TOLD ME THAT PEOPLE HAD BEEN DRIVING WITHOUT THOSE UNITS FOR YEARS AND MY BREAKS MAY LOCK UP BUT DON'T TRY TO STOP WHILE GOING FAST. I INFORMED HIM THAT TOYOTA HAD REPLACED THE COMPUTER BOARD FOR MY BREAKS EARLIER (BRAKE LIGHTS STILL COMING ON) AND ASKED IF IT WAS POSSIBLE THAT THESE THINGS WERE GOING BAD AT THE SAME TIME. HE SAID IT WAS NOT. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD TO ME AND MY FAMILY AND SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE OF. IN TRYING TO FIND SOME KIND OF SOLUTION TO THIS PROBLEM, I READ ON TUNDRA SOLUTIONS WHERE OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS SAME PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT BOTH WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AT THE SAME TIME. 2500.00 IS A LOT OF MONEY FOR A SINGLE PARENT. NOTHING WAS DONE TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM. WHAT DO I DO? *TR
MY VSC/TRAC SENSOR HAS BEEN GOING ON AND OFF AND EVERY TIME I NEEDED TO HAVE IT CHECK, THE PROBLEM NEVER APPEARS. EXCEPT FOR TODAY, THE LIGHT HAS STAYED ON AND MY MECHANIC WAS ABLE TO DIAGNOSED AND VERIFIED IT WITH TOYOTA'S TSB AS A DEFECTIVE VSC/TRAC ECU AND HE RECOMMENDED THAT I TAKE IT TO A DEALER FOR THE REPLACEMENT AND INSTALLATION OF THE NEW ECU. SEVERAL TSB'S ARE POSTED ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE REGARDING THIS PROBLEM FOR MY VEHICLE YEAR AND MAKE. MY COMPLAINT IS, I FEEL THAT IT IS UNACCEPTABLE THAT A COMPUTER DEVICE THAT PLAYS A VITAL ROLE IN THE SAFETY PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE SHOULD NOT HAVE FAILED WITHIN 5 YEARS, ESPECIALLY FOR A CONSIDERABLE COST TO HAVE IT REPLACE AFTER THE WARRANTY PERIOD. TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE AT LEAST SENT OUT NOTICES TO THE OWNERS REGARDING THIS POTENTIAL PROBLEM. *JB
I AM ANOTHER VICTIM OF THE ONGOING PROBLEM FOR 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA, VCS TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT ON. SO THIS PAST WEEKEND BEING ON A TRIP THE LIGHT COME ON AND WE TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND GAVES US A SURPRISE REPAIR $1,448.50 FOR PART 89541-0C062 AND 896300C011 $751.54 SO WITH LABOR SOME IN THE 2,500 DLS. SO I TOLD THE SERVICE GUY WHAT WAS THE RISK OF DRIVING THIS UNIT LIKE THAT. IN MY OWN WORDS IS LIKE HAVING AN 1980'S SUBURBAN. MY HUSBAND DID A RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET ON TUNDRASULUTIONS ETC. AND THERE ARE A LOT OF CASES OF THIS PROBLEM AROUSING AROUND 40,000 MILES OR LESS. WE HAVE A 4 YEAR OLD SON AND WE ARE "SCARED" TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK WITHOUT OF ANY OF THE SAFETY FEATURES NOW I WAS TOLD THAT THE TRACTION CONTROL COMPUTER AND THE MAIN COMPUTER NEEDED TO REPLACE AND THAT THIS WILL DISABLE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROLS. SO THIS MEANS THAT I HAVE A 1980 SUBURBAN. WE ARE VERY UPSET BECAUSE WE CALL TOYOTA AND THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT, THEY REFER ME TO THE DEALERSHIP SERVICE MANAGER THAT PROBABLY CAN OFFER ME A DISCOUNT OUTSIDE WARRANTY. WE NEED NHTSA TO START INVESTIGATING THIS ISSUE THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF USERS THAT ALREADY PAID FOR THIS REPAIR THAT DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO FILE A COMPLAINT. DON'T LET THIS ISSUE GET OUT OF HAND, PLEASE DON'T WAINT UNTIL THERE ARE PEOPLE HURT. MY TRUCK IS WORTH AROUND 14,000 THE REPAIR IS 2500 THE REPAIR IS 18% WORTH OF THE WHOLE VEHICLE. TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM IF THEY SELL A CAR WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS THEY SHOULD REPLACE IT. *TR
REAR HATCH HANDLE INOPERABLE, REPLACED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE. *TR
REAR WINDOW BEGAN OPERATING ONLY OFF AND ON OVER A LONG PERIOD OF TIME. FINALLY IT QUIT WORKING COMPLETELY IN 2007. FORTUNATELY IT WAS CLOSED, SO OWNER JUST DIDN'T USE UNTIL HAVING IT FIXED ALONG WITH REAR DOOR HATCH. A NEW POWER MOTOR ASSEMBLY WAS INSTALLED AT OWNERS EXPENSE. THE INCIDENT DATE IS ACTUALLY THE DATE OF REPAIR. *TR
THE TRAC OFF AND VSC TRAC LIGHT ARE ON ON MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH ONLY 46,422 MILES. SKID CONTROL WILL KICK IN EVEN WHEN DRIVING LESS THAN 5 MPH. ENGINE ALSO STALLED ONCE OUT ON BUSY STREET AS SKID CONTROL KICKED IN. DEALER DIAGNOSTIC INDICATED BAD SKID CONTROL COMPUTER SO ABS AND SKID FEATURES WILL NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH 2001-2002 AND EARLY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. *TR
RE: NHTSA RECALL # 10V176000 I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR THIS RECALL BUT THE SAME LIGHTS STAYED ON AFTER THE DEALER SUPPOSE TO HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM. I INQUIRED THIS WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR AND HE TOLD ME THAT TOYOTA WILL NOT REPLACE THE ECU SINCE IT DOES NOT EFFECT THE PERFORMANCE OF THE VEHICLE. I DISCUSSED THIS ISSUE WITH SEVERAL MECHANICS AND THEY ALL AGREED THAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO REPLACE THE DEFECTED CHIP. AFTER REACHING ONLINE, I CAME ACROSS THIS GOVERNMENT WEBSITE. UNDER NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V176000, IT CLEARLY STATED THAT " IF THE REFLASH CANNOT BE COMPLETED ON A PARTICULAR VEHICLE, THE ECU WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE." I NEED YOUR HELP TO HAVE TOYOTA TO REPLACE THE DEFECTED ECU IN MY VEHICLE WHICH WAS NOT DONE UNDER THE RECALL. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH THE ABS VSC LIGHT STAYS ON ALL THE TIME DOES NOT CLEAR. DIAGNOSED BY TOYOTA DEALER AND SUGGEST TO REPLACE ABS CONTROL UNIT COSTING 1500.00. CALLED AMERICAN TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS FOR ASSISTANCE. THEY BRUSHED ME OFF. I TOLD THEM I WORK FOR HONDA AS A TECHNICIAN AND TOLD THEM HONDA IS VERY GOOD IN ASSISTING CUSTOMERS WITH AFTER WARRANTY REPAIRS. STILL THEY DID NOT CARE. I STILL HAVE NOT HAVE VEHICLE REPAIRED. I'M HOPING WITH ALL OUR COMPLAINTS WE SEQUOIA OWNERS WILL GET THAT JUSTIFIED RECALL! *TR
2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA WITH 64000 MILES. VSC/ABD LIGHTS CAME ON AND DID COME OFF. THE BRAKES FAILED ON ONE OCCASION AND QUICKLY CAME BACK, BUT MADE METAL GRINDING NOISE. CAR WAS BROUGHT TO DEALER, AND WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. I WA S BEING TOLD O REPLACE THE COMPUTER SYSTEM. THEY SAID SINCE THERE WAS A TSB, THAT THEY MIGHT BE ABLE TO COVER 1/2 THE COST. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS PROBLEM. *AK
2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA FACTORY JACK FAILED RESULTING IN VEHICLE CRASHING DOWN**CW** THE GEAR INSIDE THE JACK BROKE INTO 3 PIECES WHICH CAUSED THE FAILURE AND THE SUV TO FALL DOWN. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS/DSC WARNING LIGHT INTERMITTENTLY ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER ASSURED THE CONTACT THAT THE ISSUE WAS NOTHING TO WORRY ABOUT AND WAS NOT A BIG DEAL. THE ISSUE WAS LATER DISCOVERED TO BE A COMMUNICATION ERROR BETWEEN THE SKID CONTROL AND THE ECM. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THAT THE ECM SHOULD BE REPLACED; HOWEVER, THE STEERING ANGLE ON THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO OFF AND A RE-CALIBRATION WAS PERFORMED. AFTERWARDS, WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 30-40 MPH, THE CONTACT DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL AND HEARD A LOUD THUMPING NOISE. SHE FELT VIBRATIONS COMING FROM THE BRAKE PEDAL. WHILE SLOWING DOWN AND SWITCHING FROM BRAKING TO ACCELERATION, THE VEHICLE HESITATED TO ACCELERATE AND COASTED MOMENTARILY UNTIL REACHING FULL ACCELERATION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,106 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 99,000.

VSC TRAC OFF LIGHTS ARE ON AFTER I START THE CAR AND PUT INTO DRIVE. DEALERS SERVICE DEPARTMENT SAID VSC COMPUTER IS FAULTY AND NEEDS REPLACEMENT, BUT THEY WILL NOT PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT BECAUSE THE WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. *JB
I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 75 MPH AND THE 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA JUST CUT COMPLETELY OFF , NO POWER AT ALL. I WAS IN THE LEFT HAND LANE, AND IT WAS WITH MY FAMILY; WIFE , 5 AND 7 YEAR OLD CHILD, AND IT WAS ALL I COULD DO TO MERGE TO THE RIGHT TO GET OUT OF SPEEDING TRAFFIC AND ON O THE EMERGENCY LANE. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, AND THEY CHECKED THE TROUBLE CODES, AND DETERMINED IT WAS THE VSC ECU COMPUTER THAT CONTROLLED THE SKID CONTROL, BUT COULD NOT REPLACE IT BECAUSE THE PART WAS NOT FAILING AT THAT POINT. TWO DAYS LATER I WAS AGAIN DRIVING DOWN THE EXPRESSWAY AT 70 MPH, AND THE CAR CUT OFF AGAIN , NO POWER AT ALL, AND AGAIN I ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, TRYING TO GET OFF THE ROAD. I HAD TO TOW THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP , AS IT WOULD NT START THIS TIME , AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE VSC ECU, AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER THE DRIVETRAIN WARRANTY, IT WOULD COST ME $1100 TO REPLACE. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM WITH SEQUOIA OWNERS AND IS A DEFINITE SAFETY PROBLEM. I OWN A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA THAT HAS THE VSC LIGHT ON. THE DEALER IS STATING THAT THE VSC COMPUTER AND POSSIBLY ANOTHER COMPUTER NEED TO BE REPLACED. REPORTED TO TOYOTA AND REQUESTED ASSISTANCE IN REPAIRING AS THIS APPEARED TO BE A MANUFACTURING DEFECT. TOYOTA DENIED CLAIM. HAVE SEEN VEHICLES PRODUCED 1 MONTH EARLIER ARE NOW UNDER RECALL FOR SIMILAR ISSUES NHTSA CAMPAIGN # 10V176000. DEALER COST TO REPAIR AT TIME WAS $1433. HAVE EXPERIENCED BRAKING ODDITIES ON OCCASIONS. *TR
THE BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT COMES ON DAILY FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE SYSTEM RESETS WHEN THE CAR IS RESTARTED. DEALERSHIP, TOYOTA OF PLANO CANNOT FIND THE CAUSE FOR THIS, AND SAYS IT IS JUST A GLITCH IN THE SYSTEM WITH NO FIX. HOW IS THE DRIVER TO KNOW WHEN TO IGNOR THE LIGHT OR RESPOND TO THE LIGHT. *AK
2003 SEQUOIA LIMITED VSC / TRAC CONTROL LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON ALMOST CONTINUOUSLY SINCE 3/1/2007, INDICATING THAT THE STABILITY CONTROL AND TRACTION CONTROL WERE NOT FUNCTIONING. AT VARIOUS TIMES THE ABS KICKED IN EVEN THOUGH THE BRAKES WERE NOT APPLIED. IN WET CONDITIONS ON 3/17/07, THE SUV DID NOT PROPERLY RESPOND TO BRAKE OR STEERING, CAUSING THE SUV TO DRIFT INTO THE ONCOMING LANE. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC IN THE LANE AT THE TIME. THIS WAS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE. AT THE DEALER, CODES C1241, C1231, C1223, AND C1203 CAME UP. DIAGNOSIS - TRANSLATE AND SKID CONTROL COMPUTERS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TOYOTA TSBS BR002-03 AND BR003-03 APPEARED TO BE RELATED, AND LEAD ME TO BELIEVE THERE WAS A KNOWN FLAW IN COMPUTER LOGIC. *AK
THE VSC & TRAC LIGHTS ARE ON CONSTANTLY ON MY 2003 SEQUOIA. MY WIFE SEEMS TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE CAR WHEN THE BRAKES LOCK UP AT ABOUT 2-3 MPH, ESPECIALLY WHEN TRYING TO MAKE A RIGHT TURN. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND I AM CONCERNED FOR HER AND MY CHILDREN (3) IN THE CAR SHOULD THE ACCIDENT OCCUR DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. VSC/ABS SKID CONTROL ECU FAILURE ON 2003 SEQUOIA. ECU FAILURE IS A KNOWN ISSUE BY EVERY TOYOTA SEQUOIA OWNER, BUT TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT IT'S NOT AN ISSUE. THIS FAILURE REQUIRES THAT VSC/ABS SKID CONTROL ECU BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $1300 - $2100 DEPENDING ON LOCATION. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED BY THE MANUFACTURER OR, BY GOVERNMENT INTERVENTION DUE TO THE SEVERITY OF THE DEFECT AND THE POTENTIAL FOR ACCIDENTS AND/OR DEATH RESULTING FROM THE DEFECTIVE COMPUTER SYSTEM CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO LOCK UP AND LOSE POWER. *JB

I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO TOYOTA AND THEY REPLACED 2 COMPUTERS RELATED TO THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEMS AT A COST OF $2,300. THEY REPLACED: TRANSLATE COMPUTER ASSEMBLY & SKID CONTROL COMPUTER ASSEMBLY. I'M UPSET BECAUSE TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM, AND OBVIOUS EXPENSIVE REPAIR, AND WILL DO NOTHING ABOUT IT. MOREOVER, MY CASE IS ONLY ONE OF MANY OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. REAR WINDOW STOPPED WORKING. I HAD ABOUT 55,000 MILES ON MY TOYOTA WHEN THIS STARTED. MY REAR WINDOW WOULD NOT ROLL DOWN. A FEW WEEKS LATER, I TRIED IT AND IT WORKED, THEN NEXT TIME I TRIED TO ROLL IT DOWN, IT FAILED AGAIN. I WAS JUST TOLD TODAY THAT IT WAS THE MOTOR AND IT WOULD BE $300 FOR THE PART AND $200 FOR LABOR. CURRENT FAILURE CLEARS AFTER IGNITION CYCLED BUT DEALER SAYS FAIL CODES DO EXIST THAT SHOW COMPUTER IS FAILING. TOYOTA HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN TO REPLACE COMPUTER IF UNDER WARRANTY. RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET SHOWED COUNTLESS FAILURES OF VTRAC COMPUTER ON THIS MODEL AND THE TUNDRA WITH THE FULL FAILURE CAUSING VEHICLES AT HIGH SPEED TO GO FROM 70 MPH TO 1 WITH NO POWER ASSISTANCE AND UNCONTROLLED DECELERATION. TOYOTA IS AWARE BUT DOING NOTHING TO REMEDY EXCEPT REPAIR IF BROUGHT IN AT OWNER EXPENSE IF NOT UNDER WARRANTY. *JB
VSC AND TRAC AND ABS LIGHTS COME ON 2003 SEQUOIA WITH 38,000 MILES FOR NO REASON. DEALER SAYS YAW RATE SENSOR BAD BUT HAVE HAD PROBLEM WITH THESE LIGHTS SINCE PURCHASE IN 2003. APPARENTLY, MANY SEQUOIAS FROM 2001 TO PRESENT HAVE PROBLEMS LIKE THIS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO BE DO SOMETHING.
FRAME IS RUSTING AWAY AT ONLY 40K. HOLES IN FRAME.
TOYOTA SEQUOIA 2003 ECU COMPUTER FAILURE (VSC/ABS LIGHT ON) AFTER JUST 40K MILES. THIS IS INTEGRATED INTO THE POWERTRAIN AND SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY WHICH IS 60 MONTHS/60,000 MILES. THEY WANT ME TO PAY 2500 DOLLARS. *JB
THE VSC AND TRAC TROUBLE LIGHTS ARE COMING ON. THE CAR OCCASIONALLY THINKS THAT WE ARE SKIDDING OUT OF CONTROL AND BEGINS PULSATING THE BRAKES. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS. THE FAILURE CODES IN THE COMPUTER INDICATE THAT THE SKID CONTROL ECU NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS IS EXPENSIVE AND NOT COVERED BY WARRANTY, BUT SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA VIA A SAFETY RECALL WITH AN IMPROVED VERSION. I HAVE FOUND A LOT OF COMPLAINTS ON THE INTERNET BY OWNERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. *JB
