TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DOOR HANDLE BROKE OFF THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH PREVENTED HIM FROM EXITING THE VEHICLE. WITHIN A YEAR, THE REMAINING FOUR DOOR HANDLES HAVE BROKEN, INCLUDING THE HANDLE ON THE HATCHBACK. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE FAILURE HOWEVER; THIS WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE WARRANTY. THE CONTACT SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT TO THE MANUFACTURER. AS OF DECEMBER 5, 2007, THE DEALER HAD NOT REPAIRED THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE 35,000.
PASSENGER SIDE, MIDDLE ROW, FOLDING SEAT DOES NOT LATCH. HAD PROBLEMS W/ IT BEING VERY DIFFICULT TO LATCH STARTING AROUND ONE YEAR OF US, LATER BECAME IMPOSSIBLE TO LATCH. DEALER SAYS THE BAR IN THE SEAT IS BROKEN (BUT NOW OUT OF WARRANTY). $800+ TO REPLACE, DEALER OFFERED $300 DISCOUNT TOWARD REPAIR. *JB
A FEW MONTHS AFTER WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN DECEMBER 2004 WE NOTICED THAT THE TRACTION LIGHTS ARE COMING ON PERIODICALLY. WE TOOK THE CAR TO TOYOTA SERVICE TO CHECK THE ISSUE AND BEEN CHARGED HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR DIAGNOSIS AND SENSOR REPLACEMENT. HOWEVER THE PROBLEM WAS NOT SOLVED AND EVEN GOT WORST: THE TRACTION AND BRAKE LIGHTS WERE CONTINUOUSLY ON NOW. IN 2010 WE RECEIVED A NOTICE ABOUT A RECALL WITH REGARD TO THE ABOVE ISSUE AND BROUGHT THE CAR TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP LOCATED AT 4248 MORSE RD., COLUMBUS, OH 43230. THE CAR WAS SERVICED BUT A FEW HOURS AFTERWARDS ALL THE LIGHTS WERE ON AGAIN. WHEN WE RETURNED TO THE SAME DEALERSHIP WITH THE SAME COMPLAINT WE WERE TOLD THAT THE RECALL WAS ON THE VEHICLE COMPUTER ADJUSTMENT, WHICH WAS DONE, AND THAT AND ANY ADDITIONAL SERVICES WILL BE CHARGED IN FULL. WE LOOKED UP THE RECALL DOCUMENT AND REALIZED THAT IT IS CLEARLY SPECIFIED UNDER REMEDY THAT: IF THE REFLASH CANNOT BE COMPLETED ON A PARTICULAR VEHICLE, THE ECU WILL BE REPLACED WITH A NEW ONE. THIS SERVICE WILL BE PERFORMED FREE OF CHARGE. SINCE THE MANUFACTURER DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO COMPLY WITH THE RECALL REQUIREMENTS WE WOULD LIKE TO BRING THE ISSUE TO YOUR ATTENTION AND SEEK YOUR INTERVENTION. *TR
I HAVE A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA AND MY VSC TRAC,VSC OFF LIGHTS STAY ON. I HAVE BEEN TOLD IT IS THE TRANSMISSION HOWEVER IT IS A DEFECT FROM TOYOTA. I HAD FILLED A COMPLAINT BECAUSE OF MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE VSC TRAC LIGHT/VSC LIGHT/ABS LIGHT STAYS ON AS A RESULT OF ATTEMPTING TO APPLY THE SWITCH. I CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT MY VIN # IS NOT ONE FOR RECALL AND THAT THEY ARE STILL INVESTIGATING THE ISSUES. ON THIS SITE IT STATES THAT THE ISSUE IS CLOSED AND TOYOTA IS RECALLING THEM. WHAT IS THE STATUS? THANKS *TR
WE OWN A TOYATA SEQUOIA LTD 2003 MODEL YEAR. WE TOOK THE VEHICLE SEVERAL TIMES TO THE DEALER REGARDING BRAKING ISSUE. IF WE EVER USED THE EMERGENCY BRAKE, FOR SOME REASON THE RIGHT SIDE FRONT AND REAR BRAKES WILL START TO LOCK UP, THAT WOULD SHAKE THE SUV AND WE HAD TO PULL OVER. THE DEALER NEVER DETERMINED WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS EVEN THOUGH WE ENDED UP PAYING FOR REPAIRS THAT NEVER MADE A DIFFERENCE. EVENTUALLY WE STOPPED USING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ON OUR VEHICLE, THAT ALSO STOPPED THE RIGHT SIDE WHEELS FROM LOCKING UP. DURING THIS PERIOD THE CAR PARKED IN OUR DRIVEWAY ALSO CRASHED INTO OUR GARAGE AND BROKE THE GARAGE DOORS. WITH EMERGENCY BRAKES ON AND IN PARK, MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT WE THERE WAS A LOUD BANG, THE SUV HAD CRASHED INTO THE GARAGE; EVEN THOUGH THE SUV WAS IN PARK POSITION GEAR AND WITH EMERGENCY BRAKES ON. *TR
DT: 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONSUMER STATED RECALL 05V225000 REPAIRS CONCERNING LOWER BALL JOINTS WERE DONE. THERE HAS BEEN EXCESSIVE WEAR ON THE OUTER PART OF THE TIRES. THE CONSUMER FELT THAT THIS WAS DUE TO THE LOWER BALL JOINT PROBLEM AS STATED IN THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER WAS NOT SURE WHETHER OR NOT THE TIRES WERE STILL WEARING OUT SINCE THE REPAIRS. AFTER CONTACTING TOYOTA, THEY TOLD HIM THAT THEY WERE NOT GOING TO REPLACE THE TIRES. THESE TIRES CAME WITH THE VEHICLE AND THEY HAVE BEEN PROPERLY MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO THE CONSUMER.*AK *MR *JB
THE VSC AND BRAKE LIGHTS ON OUR TOYOTA SEQOUIA 2003( 4WD LTD, 9000 MILES) COMES ON WITHOUT WARNING AND GOES OFF USUALLY WHEN THE IGNITION IS TURNED OFF. THE CARS SEEM TO HANDLE FINE BUT I AM CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY.
THE INNER PART OF THE TIRES WORE OUT MORE THAN THE OUTER PORTION. AS A RESULT, WHEN DRIVING 55 MPH THE VEHICLE VIBRATED VIOLENTLY. *JB (UNEVEN TIRE WEAR) *SC
LAST MONTH, THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) FEATURE OF MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA FAILED. AS A RESULT, A SAFETY FEATURE (THE SYSTEM DESIGNED TO HELP MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE IN A SKID SITUATION) WHICH WAS A REASON I PURCHASED THIS PARTICULAR SUV WAS NOT ENGAGED (I.E., THE SKID PROTECTION FEATURE WAS NOT FUNCTIONAL). THE FAILURE IS ALLEGED TO HAVE RESULTED FROM AN OPEN MODULE IN THE ELECTRONIC CONTROL UNIT THAT GOVERNS THE VSC SYSTEM. THE CONTROLLER WAS REPLACED AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP.*AK
TRAC,VSC, BRAKE LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON AND THEN GOING OUT. THIS PARTICULAR INCIDENT INVOLVED THEM COMING ON DURING A TURN INTO TRAFFIC AT WHICH TIME ALL POWER WAS LOST NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. DEALER TREATED THIS AS 2 DIFFERENT PROBLEMS:AN INDUCTION SERVICE WAS PERFORMED FOR THE "HESITATION" AT MY EXPENSE, AND A BRAKE BOOSTER GASKET AND ASSEMBLY WERE INSTALLED UNDER THE WARRANTY. THE LIGHTS CONTINUED TO GO OFF AND ON FROM TIME TO TIME, BUT THE CAR DID NOT LOSE POWER AGAIN AFTER THIS "FIX".THE LIGHTS CONTINUED TO COME ON AND OFF INTERMITTENTLY UNTIL IN AUGUST 2006 THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND VCS/TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OUT. THIS TIME, MY DEALER REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSOR AT MY EXPENSE. NOW, WITH 70,000 MILES ON 9-26-07 THE VSC/TRAC & CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS CAME ON WHILE TRAVELING ON THE ROAD AND WILL NOT GO OUT ON TURNING OFF THE ENGINE AS THEY SOMETIMES DID IN THE PAST. I BELIEVE AFTER READING ALL THE COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM ON VARIOUS INTERNET SITES SOME SORT OF ACTION SHOULD BE TAKEN AT TOYOTA'S EXPENSE. I AM ALSO FILING A REPORT ABOUT THE NEW REAR WINDOW MOTOR AND HATCH RELEASE HANDLE I HAD TO REPLACE IN JULY ON THIS VEHICLE WHICH ALSO IS MENTIONED IN MANY REPORTS I'VE READ ON THE INTERNET. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW MANY FAILURES ON THE LIGHT SITUATION I'VE HAD BECAUSE THEY'VE BEEN IN THE DOZENS. *TR
DURING A 40 MPH FRONT PASSENGER SIDE IMPACT, THE SIDE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. VEHICLE WAS TOWED. DEALERSHIP WAS NOTIFIED, BUT DID NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHEN WE FIRST BOUGHT THE VEHICLE THE TRAC SYSTEM LIGHTS KEPT COMING ON AND THE BRAKES FELT MUSHY; WE TOOK IT IN TO TOYOTA AND THEY REPLACED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM WHICH SEEMED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM. THEN ABOUT 9 MO TO A YEAR LATER THE LIGHTS KEPT COMING ON AGAIN AND THE BRAKES FAILED TWICE, TOYOTA STATED THEY WOULD REPLACE THE BRAKE SYSTEM FLUID AND THE MASTER CYLINDER AT OUR COST BECAUSE WE HAD TAKEN IT ELSEWHERE AND THEY FELT THAT IT HAD CONTAMINATED BRAKE FLUID, WHICH OUR MECHANIC STATED IN WRITING WAS NOT. ALTHOUGH WE TRIED NUMEROUS TIMES TO HAVE TOYOTA FIX IT UNDER WARRANTY; WE GOT THE VEHICLE REPAIRED THROUGH OUR OWN MECHANIC AND THEN SHORTLY LATER THE BRAKES FAILED RESULTING IN A CRASH ON THE FREEWAY. WHEN IT WAS DECIDED THAT THE SEQ WOULD BE REPAIRED VIA INS THERE WAS A CODE THAT SHOWED UP ON THE COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT SHOWED THAT BRAKES INDEED DID FAIL; HOWEVER WHEN TAKING IT TO TOYOTA THE SAME CODE DID NOT SHOW UP. THE VEHICLE DID WELL, HOWEVER WE LIVE BY A DIRT ROAD AND WHEN TRAVELING DOWN THE ROAD OR GOING AROUND A CORNER QUICKLY THE TRAC SYSTEM LIGHTS GO ON AND NOW THE VEHICLE ACTS LIKE IT WON'T GO WHEN THE TRAC SYSTEM IS ON AND YOU SLOW DOWN OR START UP AGAIN--AT PRESENT THE SYSTEM IS TURNED OFF; IT HAS REALLY NEVER WORKED CORRECTLY. *NM
WHILE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT/TRAC LIGHT, AND ABS BRAKING LIGHT APPEARED ON THE DASHBOARD AND REMAINED ON. THEN, VEHICLE STALLED. CONSUMER WAS UNABLE TO RESTART VEHICLE, AND HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALER FOR INSPECTION. MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE BATTERY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. CONSUMER INFORMED MECHANIC THAT THIS PROBLEM RECURRED AND HAD NOT BEEN RESOLVED. *AK
THE VEHICLE SKID CONTROL AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT CAME ON INTERMITTENTLY AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO LOSE RPM'S AND HAD NO THROTTLE RESPONSE. THE INDICATOR LIGHTS FLICKERED AND THE RPM'S DROPPED AND THERE WAS NO CONTROL WITH THE ACCELERATION. PROVIDE FURTHER DETAILS. *JB
SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING MY TOYOTA SEQUOIA IN 2003, THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE VEHICLE STABILITY (VSC) SYSTEM AND THE TRAC SYSTEM. I HAD THE RECALL REPAIRED AT THAT TIME. IN 2010, THERE WAS A RECALL AGAIN ON THE SAME SYSTEM AND I AGAIN HAD IT REPAIRED IN 2011. SHORTLY AFTER THAT, THE INCIDENT OCCURRED AGAIN. I AGAIN BROUGHT MY VEHICLE INTO THE DEALER BUT WAS TOLD THE SEQUOIA DID NOT HAVE ANY OPEN RECALLS ON IT AND THE REPAIRS WERE FOR ME TO HANDLE. AT THAT TIME, I DID NOT GET THE REPAIR FIXED BECAUSE OF THE COST TOYOTA WAS CHARGING FOR THE REPAIR. I EXPLAINED TO THE DEALER IT WAS THE VERY SAME DEFECT THAT KEPT REOCCURRING AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL. I WAS ESENTIALLY SENT AWAY. I RECENTLY (8/31/15) PAID FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TO BE PREFORMED ON MY SEQUOIA AND THE CODES FOR THE ISSUE CAME UP AGAIN. NHTSA CAMPAIGN #10V176000 THE TOYOTA CODES THAT CAME UP ARE C1203,C1223,C1244,C1247. I SPOKE WITH TOYOTA AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGE THE RECALL AND THAT MY SEQUOIA IS INCLUDED BUT INSIST, THAT BECAUSE OF THE YEAR OF MY VEHICLE, I AM NO LONGER ELIGIBLE TO BE REIMBERSED FOR THIS RECALL. THE THEN OFFERED ME MONEY OFF PURCHASING A NEW TOYOTA INSTEAD OF HONORING AND STANDING BY THEIR PRODUCT. I AM NOT IN THE MARKET TO BY A NEW VEHICLE AT THIS TIME AND AM SEEKING THAT TOYOTA ABSORB THE COST OF THE RECALL TO REPAIR THE SAFETY ISSUES.
PUT MY SEQUOIA IN PARK AND SHUT OFF .I GOT OUT TO GO INTO GAS STATION, AS I SHUT THE DOOR TO THE VEHICLE, THE CAR JERKED AND BEGAN MAKING A GRINDING NOISE AND PROCEEDED TO GO IN REVERSE BACK. I WENT TO GET INTO THE VEHICLE TO MAKE SURE I HAD GOTTEN IT INTO THE PARK POSITION AND IT WAS. I COULDN'T STOP IT AND BY THAT TIME IT WAS TOO LATE FOR ME TO GET AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. IT ENDED UP PINNING MY LEGS BETWEEN A CONCRETE BARRIER THAT PROTECTS THE GAS PUMPS AND THE DOOR OF MY VEHICLE. EVENTUALLY, IT FOLDED THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR BACKWARDS MAKING IT PARALLEL TO THE FRONT BUMPER AND RELEASED ME TO FALL TO THE GROUND. IT THEN CONTINUED IN REVERSE UNTIL IT FINALLY HIT A PARKED CAR AND STOPPED. ALL OF THE WITNESSES, INCLUDING THE ACTUAL POLICE OFFICER NOTED IN THEIR STATEMENTS THAT THEY FOUND THE CAR IN PARK. AT THIS POINT, TOYOTA IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS AND A NEUTRAL PARTY WHO QUICKLY CHECKED THE SEQUOIA SAID THEY FOUND NO PROBLEM WITH THE CAR STAYING IN PARK SO THERE WOULD PROBABLY BE NOTHING FURTHER DONE. *AK
SEAT BELT - DRIVER'S SIDE SHOULDER BELT ANCHOR BOLT CAME COMPLETELY LOOSE AND WAS HANGING FREE. AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP REPAIR. *LA
DT: BRAKE SYSTEM WILL GRAB AND THROW CAR INTO SKID, BUT PARTS ARE FAILING INTERMITTENTLY. THE SWITCH ON THE DASHBOARD DOES NOT SHUT IT OFF. CONSUMER HAD NO CONTROL OF VEHICLE. IT HAS BEEN IN THE REPAIR SHOP, AND FOUND OUT STEERING ANGLE SENSOR WAS BAD, AND REPLACED IT. ALSO, COMPUTER WAS DEFECTIVE. *AK THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER WAS REPLACED ALSO. THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT CONFIRM WHAT FAILED FIRST, WHY EITHER FAILED, OR WHY HE COULD NOT FIND ANY TROUBLE OVER ONE YEAR AGO, WHEN CONSUMER NOTICED BLINDING LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD. THE CONSUMER FEELS THAT THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD BECAUSE DRIVERS DO NOT HAVE CONTROL OVER THIS ACTIVE 4 WHEEL DRIVE SYSTEM. ALSO THE DASH CONTROL WILL NOT SHUT OFF VSC (VEHICLE SKID CONTROL), NOR ANY OTHER FUSE, SWITCH, WIRE, OR OTHER VSC'S.*SB
SUBSTANDARD TIRES ON 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. *MR THE VEHICLE DISPLAYED A ROUGH FEEL WHILE IN MOTION. THE TIRES WERE SAID TO BE DEFECTIVE. ALL FOUR TIRES WERE REPLACED BY THE DEALER WITH DUNLOP GRANDTEK AT20 TIRES. THERE WAS UNEVEN TIRE WEAR IN THE INNER AND OUTER TREAD WEARING AT A FASTER RATE THAN THE CENTER OF ALL THE TIRES. ALL OF THE TIRES WERE CLOSE TO REACHING THE WEAR BAR ON THE INNER AND OUTER EDGE OF THE TIRE. THE CONSUMER FELT THAT THE TIRES WEREN'T ADEQUATE FOR THE SIZE AND WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE. *SC *JB
THE FRAME ON THE CAR IS RUSTING AWAY WITH ONLY 40K MILES ON IT. IT WAS GARAGE KEPT.
VSC LLIGHTS IN MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA HAVE COME ON MULTIPLE TIMES, THE CAR HAS ALREADY BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER FOR REPAR 4 TIMES, IT SEEMS THAT THEY EITHER DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM, OR TOYOTA IS UNWILLING TO ADMIT THAT THERE IS A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE CAR. THE VSC LIGHT SEEMS TO NOW COME ON IN THE MORNING WHEN THE CAR IS COLD, AND WILL THEN SHUT OFF IF THE CAR IS RESTARTED. DEALER HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND NOW WAITING TO SEE IF ANY ACTIONS ARE TAKEN. *JB
2003 TOYOTA SEQUIOA, VSC LIGHTS/VSC TRACKING LIGHTS COME ON AND MAKE GRINDING NOISE ONCE IT IS TRIGGERED IT STAYS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE MUST BE RETURNED TO DEALERSHIP, AND NOW THIS THIRD TIME THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT APPEARS, AND IS STAYING ILLUMINATED. THIS PROBLEM HAS HAPPENED FOR THE 3RD TIME IN FOUR MONTHS. IT IS RIDICULOUS. CHECKERED FLAG TOYOTA, VA. BEACH, VA. IS THE DEALER WITH WHO HAS LOOKED AT THE VEHICLE. *AK
MY VSC/VTC LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON SINCE I HAVE OWNED MY VEHICLE. I ALSO HAVE A BRAKE LIGHT THAT COMES ON CONSTANTLY. I AM ONLY ABLE TO RESET THE BRAKE LIGHT BY TURNING OFF MY VEHICLE AND RESTARTING. I HAVE REPLACED ALL 4 ROTORS, CALIPERS AND FUEL LINES MORE THAN 3 TIMES SINCE BUYING THE TRUCK NEW. BRAKE PADS ARE CHANGED IN THE FRONT TIRES CONTINUOUSLY! THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM IN THIS TRUCK! I WAS TOLD BY MANY MECHANICS THAT THE ONLY WAY TO GET THE SKID CONTROL / TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS TO TURN OFF IS TO HAVE TOYOTA FIGURE OUT WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE BRAKE SYSTEM IN THE SEQUOIA'S. ALSO, I BELIEVE THERE SHOULD BE ANOTHER WAY TO OPEN THE BACK HATCH TO THIS VEHICLE OTHER THAN THE PLASTIC HANDLE ON THE OUTSIDE WHICH BREAKS REPEATEDLY!! IF THERE WERE AN EMERGENCY ON THE INSIDE OF THE TRUCK AND THE ONLY EXIT WERE THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE, THERE IS NO WAY TO OPEN THE REAR TAIL GATE FROM INSIDE!!! ONCE THAT STUPID PLASTIC HANDLE ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE BREAKS, YOU CANNOT OPEN THE REAR HATCH ON THE SEQUOIA!! IT BECOMES A DEATH TRAP IN THE THIRD ROW SEATING AREA!!
WE PURCHASED A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA 2WD, IN MAY OF 2003. AT FIRST THE ONLY PROBLEM WE HAD WAS THE ROTTEN EGG SMELL, NOW IT'S TIRE PROBLEMS. STARTING IN FEBRUARY 2004 MY HUSBAND HAVE HAD TO TAKE THE TRUCK BACK EVERY TWO WEEKS. AT FIRST THE DEALERSHIP SAID THAT THEY COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING. THE NEXT TIME THEY SAID THAT IT WAS THE TIRES, SO THEY REPLACE ALL OF THE TIRES.WE HAD TO PAY ABOUT $150.00 FOR THE TIRES.THE DEALERSHIP CHANGE FROM DUNLOP TIRE TO BF GOODRICH WHICH IS A HARDER TIRE, NOW THEY WE ARE BACK WITH THE DUNLOP TIRES WHICH IS A SOFTER TIRE. MY 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA'S INTERIOR DOOR HANDLES, 3 OF THEM, ARE MADE OF PLASTIC AND WERE BROKEN AFTER A YEAR OF USAGE. WITH THE HOT WEATHER HERE IN FLORIDA, THESE DOOR HANDLES BECOMES WEAK, EASILY CRACKED AND THEN BROKEN. THIS IS GOING TO BE AN EMERGENCY ISSUE BECAUSE WE OPEN OUR DOORS FROM THE OUTSIDE. WITH THE HEAVY AND LARGE DOORS OF THESE SEQUOIAS, THE PLASTIC HANDLES ARE NOT HEAVY DUTY ENOUGH MATERIAL LIKE METAL TO WITHSTAND THE OPEN AND CLOSE OPERATION OF THESE HEAVY DOORS. THESE ARE DEFECTIVE OR BELOW QUALITY TO USE PLASTIC MATERIAL FOR THESE DOORS. PLEASE HELP IN CORRECTING THESE MANUFACTURER DEFECT. VSC/TRACTION CONTROL OFF LIGHT HAS ILLUMINATED ON DASH WHEN VEHICLE IS SIMPLY SITTING IN A PARKING SPACE, PULLING OUT OF PAVED DRY RELATIVELY FLAT DRIVEWAY, AND DRIVING BELOW 20 MPH ON DRY PAVEMENT. PROBLEM IS ONGOING WHERE THE VSC/TRACTION CONTROL OFF LIGHT COMES ON ALMOST EVERYDAY. FIRST TIME TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD IT WOULD RESET ITSELF WHEN SUV IS RESTARTED. DT: THE CONTACT OWNS A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE LOWER BALL JOINTS. RECALL REPAIRS WERE DONE. BUT THE CONTACT FELT THAT THIS RECALL PROBLEM CAUSED THE TIRES TO WEAR OUT ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE TREAD. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WOULD NOT BE CAUSED FROM THE RECALL, BUT THE CONSUMER FELT THAT IT WAS. IF IT WAS NOT RELATED TO THE RECALL, THEN THE CONSUMER FELT THAT IT MAY BE DUE TO A DEFECT WITHIN THE TIRE OR ANOTHER DEFECT WITHIN THE SUSPENSION SYSTEM. THE CONTACT STATED THE TIRES WERE ROTATED EVERY 5,000 MILES. THE MANUFACTURER REFERRED THE CONSUMER TO ARBITRATION, BUT THIS COULD TAKE UP TO 60 DAYS. *AK
2003 SR5 SEQUOIA WITH 4700 MI, AND TWO ACCELERATOR PROBLEMS: 1. SURGING FROM A STOP AND WHEN ACCELERATING OUT OF A TURN. 2. A DEAD ACCELERATOR FOR A PERIOD OF SIX TO TEN SECONDS WHEN ACCELERATING OUT OF A TURN. THE ENGINE DOES NOT DIE IT JUST REMAINS AT AN IDLE FOR THE SIX TO TEN SECONDS WHILE THE DRIVER IS PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. THESE TWO PROBLEMS ARE NOT CONSTANT THEY JUST HAPPEN FROM TIME TO TIME. THREE TRIPS TO THE DEALER SO FAR RESULTS IN THE RESPONSE "UNABLE TO DUPLICATE PROBLEM". THE FIRST FAILURE DATE IS THE DAY WE DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME FOR THE FIRST TIME AND CONTINUES TO NOW.

WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VSC/ABS/BRAKE CONTROLLER WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL AND THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING EXCESSIVELY. THE TECHNICIANS REPLACED THE TRANSLATE COMPUTER, THE ECU, THE TRANSMISSION TEMPERATURE SENSOR, AND THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER. NONE OF THE REPAIRS HAVE REMEDIED THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS INVESTIGATING THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 9,322 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 122,000. UPDATED 11/10/09 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE VSC/BRAKE AND ABS LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON, SINCE TAKING OWNERSHIP OF THE VEHICLE. WHEN THE LIGHTS ARE ON, THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE SHAKES AND THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER FOR APPROXIMATELY 2-3 SECONDS AND THEN REGAINS POWER AGAIN. I OWN A 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. AT 10,740 MILES, THE FRONT DISC BRAKES WERE WORN OUT AND REQUIRED REPLACEMENT. THE BRAKES SHOULD HAVE LASTED LONGER AND SUGGESTS AN UNDERSIZED DESIGN OF THE BRAKING SYSTEM. ALL THIS TIME THE VSC/ TRAC OFF LIGHT KEEPS COMING ON. THE DEALER CAN'T COME UP WITH A PROBLEM AND THEY SAY JUST RESTART THE CAR AND THEY SHOULD COME OFF. NOW THERE IS A GRINDING SOUND COMING FROM MY DASH AND THE LIGHTS ARE COMING ON AGAIN SO OFF TO THE DEALERSHIP AGAIN. THEY CAN'T DUPLICATE THE SOUND AND THE LIGHTS WELL MAYBE ITS MY BRAKES AND I HAVE TO GET THOSE REPLACED. I DECIDED TO WAIT ON THAT. OK NOW SINCE MY KIDS LIKE TO RIDE WITH THE BACK WINDOWS DOWN AND I CAN'T STAND THE PRESSURE AND SOUND IN THE CAR. THE VSC/ TRAC OFF AND ABS LIGHT WELL THAT WAS A SENSOR THAT NEEDED REPLACING AND THE WINDOW WELL GUESS WHAT THAT WAS THE GRINDING SOUND I HAD HEARD BEFORE . THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. BE READY TO PAY ABOUT $800 IN PARTS AND LABOR. LUCKY FOR ME I HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY SO I WAS LEFT WITH JUST MY DEDUCTIBLE. I HAVE OWNED 3 TOYOTAS IN THE PAST AND HAVE ALWAYS HAD THAT PEACE OF MIND "ITS A TOYOTA" BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE. TOYOTA IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE. I STILL LOVE THE SPACE AND COMFORT OF THE SEQUOIA BUT WOULD RATHER DO WITHOUT ALL THE SERVICE TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP.
