*******2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA LTD VSC COMPUTER FAILURE, WHEEL LOCKUP ON LEFT********* BRAKE LIGHT, VSC AND TRAC LIGHT ALL CAME ON. I WAS DRIVING APPROX. 20 MPH AND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL LOCKED UP AND THE CAR PULLED SHARPLY TO THE LEFT. THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND I LOST BRAKE PEDAL EFFECTIVENESS. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND ALL LIGHTS WENT OUT AND BRAKE FEEL AND EFFECTIVENESS APPEARS OK. I TOOK THE CAR STRAIGHT TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. FOR THE LAST 2 YEARS THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND STAY ON AND WHEN I TURNED OFF THE CAR AND RESTARTED IT THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF. FOR 2 YEARS MY LOCAL DEALER IN BUTLER, PA COULD NOT GET A FAILURE CODE. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR FOR DIAGNOSTICS, THE CAUSE WAS THE ECM PART NUMBER 89541-OC062 AT A COST OF ABOUT $1377.00. THEY REPLACED IT AT THE GREAT DEALERSHIP IN LANGHORNE,PA. I HAVE 55,659 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. SINCE THE REPAIR THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON ONE TIME AND STAYED ON, WHEN WE RESTARTED THE CAR IT WENT AWAY. I WILL RETURN TO DEALER TO HAVE THIS CHECKED AGAIN NEXT TIME IT COMES ON. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT THIS LOCKUP OF THE WHEEL AND LOSS OF BRAKING EFFECTIVENESS IS A REAL BIG SAFETY ISSUE ON THESE VEHICLES. PLEASE GET BACK TO ME TO TELL ME IF NHTSA IS LOOKING INTO THIS SITUATION. BRAKE LIGHT, VSC AND TRAC LIGHT ALL CAME ON. INITIALLY THE BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON AND I WAS TURN OFF THE CAR AND RESTART IT AND THE LIGHT WOULD GO OFF AND OCCASIONALLY THE VSC LIGHT WOULD COME ON BUT LASTLY ALL CAME ON WITH A WEIRD SOUND AS IF THE ANTI LOCK BRAKE WAS ACTIVATED WHEN I WAS GOING TO A STOP AT AN INTERSECTION WITH A STOP SIGN. THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT AS IF I LOST PRESSURE AND THE CAR DID NOT STOP. WHEN I TOOK THE CAR FOR DIAGNOSTICS, THE CAUSE WAS THE ECM PART NUMBER 89541-0C062 AT A COST OF ABOUT $1800.00. I HAVE JUST RAN OUT OF WARRANTY SEVERAL MONTH BACK AND I ONLY HAVE 38970 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. *TR
2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA SKID CONTROL ECU HAD TO BE REPLACED BY THE DEALER AS THE ABS LIGHT CONTINUALLY LIGHT UPS ON MY VEHICLE. *TR
ON JULY 6TH AT APPROXIMATELY 2:00 IN THE AFTERNOON MY SON AND I WENT TO PULL OUR BOAT OUT OF THE WATER WITH OUR 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA.(WE BACKED THE TRAILER INTO THE WATER AND LOADED OUR BOAT ONTO THE TRAILER AS WE ALWAYS DO. WE THEN SECURED THE BOAT TO THE TRAILER AND PROCEEDED TO PULL THE TRUCK AND LOADED TRAILER UP THE HILL ABOUT 30 FEET AND PARKED ON THE BOAT LAUNCH RAMP. I EXITED THE VEHICLE AND LEFT THE SEQUOIA IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE HIGH, IN PARK, WITH THE PARKING BRAKE ON. ABOUT 5 MINUTES LATER, WE HEARD A REPEATED CLICKING SOUND AND THE BOAT AND TRAILER CAME ROLLING BACK DOWN THE LAUNCH RAMP INTO THE WATER NARROWLY MISSING MY SON AND I. THE ONLY THING THAT STOPPED THE TRUCK AND TRAILER WAS THE FACT THAT THE BOAT TRAILER JACKKNIFED AGAINST THE LEFT REAR BUMPER OF THE TRUCK. THE REGIONAL INSPECTOR, JIM TEELY FINALLY INSPECTED THE SEQUOIA ON JULY 15TH. ACCORDING TO JIM TEELY, WHOM I HAVE SPOKEN WITH ON THE TELEPHONE, THE INSPECTION FOUND THAT THERE WAS NOTHING MECHANICALLY WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE INSPECTION THAT WAS DONE WAS CURSORY AT BEST. UNTIL THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN PHYSICALLY EXAMINED BY TOYOTA I AM NOT COMFORTABLE TOWING MY BOAT AND ESPECIALLY NOT PARKING THE SEQUOIA (TOWING OR NOT) ON AN INCLINE. WE LIVE IN THE MOUNTAINS, AND NOT BEING ABLE TO PARK ON A HILL WILL BE A MAJOR INCONVENIENCE FOR US. TOYOTA HAS STILL NOT DETERMINED WHAT CAUSED THIS ACCIDENT.*TR
THE ABS AND VSC TRACK LIGHTS STARTED TO COME ON. CURRENTLY THESE LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENT. SOMETIMES WHEN THESE LIGHTS COME ON, THE BRAKES SEEMS AS IF THEY ARE APPLIED. *TR
I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE USED IN 2008 WITH APPROXIMATELY 40,000 MILES ON IT. SHORTLY AFTER I GOT IT, THE BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON FOR WHAT SEEMED LIKE NO NOTICEABLE REASON. I HAD IT CHECKED OUT BY THE DEALER AND THEY SAID NOTHING WAS WRONG. THROUGHOUT THE TIME I'VE HAD THE VEHICLE, THE BRAKE LIGHT CONTINUES TO COME ON PERIODICALLY. I'VE HAD IT CHECKED OUT A FEW TIMES AND THEY ALWAYS SAY NOTHING IS WRONG. ABOUT TWO WEEKS AGO I WAS STOPPING FOR A RED LIGHT AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. I BROUGHT IT IN AND THEY SAID THERE WAS AIR IN THE LINE, WHICH THEY FIXED. AFTER THAT TIME MY BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON SEVERAL TIMES, BUT I THOUGHT IT WAS JUST THE FALSE ALARMS THAT I HAD ALWAYS GOTTEN. THEN LAST NIGHT (9/15/2014) I HAD THE PROBLEM ONCE AGAIN WITH THE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR WHEN I WAS TRYING TO STOP FOR A LIGHT AND THE VEHICLE WOULDN'T STOP UNTIL I LIFTED MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE AND PUT IT BACK ON. NOW THE DEALER SAYS THERE IS A LEAK IN THE MASTER CYLINDER. ONE OF MY FEARS FROM ALL THESE YEARS OF THE BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON FOR NO REAL REASON WAS THAT ONE DAY IT WOULD COME ON FOR A VALID REASON AND I WOULDN'T KNOW BECAUSE OF ALL THE PREVIOUS FALSE ALARM LIGHTS. AS WE ALL KNOW BRAKES FAILING CAN CAUSE INJURIES OR DEATHS. *TR
FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS, OUR SEQUOIA HAS HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT COMING ON AS WELL AS THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT. THE ONLY WAY TO TURN OFF THE LIGHT IS TO TURN OFF THE CAR. ONCE EVERY 3 MONTHS OR SO, IT SOUNDS AS IF THE TRACTION CONTROL/ABS IS TURNING ON AND A LOUD GRINDING IS HEARD AND IT FEELS LIKE THERE IS A TEMPORARY LOSS IN BRAKING POWER. TOYOTA HAS CHARGED ME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO REPLACE BEARINGS, BRAKE CYLINDERS, ETC. NONE OF THESE REPAIRS HAVE WORKED. THEY TOLD ME THE LAST TIME THAT THE NEXT FIX IS A REPLACEMENT OF THE ESC COMPUTER. SEARCHING ONLINE AND THROUGH NHTSA COMPLAINTS, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM AND CLEARLY A DESIGN FLAW IN THE COMPUTER AND IT SHOULD BE A PART OF A RECALL. *JS
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE TWO VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE YAW RATE SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 78,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 73,000.
THE PROBLEM WITH MY SUV, IS THE VSC TRAC AND BRAKE LIGHT COME ON AND GOES AWAY AND I CAN SMELL SOMETHING ON THE TWO BACK BRAKES BURNING. I LOST A PREVIOUS TRUCK BEFORE. IT FLIPPED OVER CAN'T SAY IF THIS CAUSED IT TO FLIP. I HOPE TOYOTA CAN RECALL THESE SUV'S AND FIX IT. MY LOCAL SHOP CAN'T GET A CODE ON THIS FAULT.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THE SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT (NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 07V013000). THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS WERE UNAVAILABLE AND DID NOT KNOW WHEN THEY WOULD ARRIVE. THE CONTACT FELT THAT WAS UNACCEPTABLE. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 75,000.
I HAVE BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE TO DEALER NUMEROUS TIME OVER THE YEARS THAT THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT CAME ON. OVER THE YEARS THEY COULD NOT PULL A CODE BECAUSE THE BRAKE WARNING LIGHT WAS NOT ON. BECAUSE IT WAS SPORADIC I LEFT IT UNTIL IT THEY CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. THEY WANTED TO REPLACE IT AFTER THE WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED AND AFTER I HAD BEEN TELLING THEM THAT THE LIGHT HAD BEEN COMING ON. TOYOTA HAS KNOW THAT THIS A PROBLEM FOR SOME 2000 - 2005 TOYOTA PRODUCTS. *TR
I HAVE A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WITH JUST OVER 52,000 MILES, THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT WOULD COME ON FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THE ONLY WAY TO GET IT TO GO OFF WOULD BE TO STOP AND RESTART THE VEHICLE. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ADVISED US TO CHECK THE BRAKE FLUID. IT WAS FINE. WHEN I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE ANTI-SKID ECU COMPUTER COMPONENT WAS GOING OUT. THEY SAID IT WASN'T A SAFETY ISSUE; HOWEVER, WE FEEL LIKE IT MOST DEFINITELY IS A SAFETY ISSUE. SEQUOIA'S ARE PRONE TO ROLL OVER IN ACCIDENTS, AND THE ANTI-SKID FUNCTION IS CRITICAL. WE HAVE DONE RESEARCH, AND IT IS OBVIOUS THAT TOYOTA IS AWARE THAT IT IS A PROBLEM. DESPITE THEIR KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM, A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED. IS IT GOING TO TAKE MAJOR ACCIDENTS OR DEATHS OF INNOCENT PASSENGERS TO GET TOYOTA TO ISSUE A RECALL? BECAUSE OF THE SAFETY FACTOR, WE ENDED UP SPENDING $1,507.48 IN ORDER TO HAVE THIS REPLACED. WITH LESS THAN 53,000 MILES ON A SEQUOIA, IT IS RIDICULOUS TO HAVE TO SPEND THAT AMOUNT OF MONEY. THE ORIGINAL ANTI-SKID ECU IS OBVIOUSLY DEFECTIVE; TOYOTA NEEDS TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND ISSUE A RECALL. *JB
2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA (67,000 MILES) TAKEN TO DEALER FOR REPAIR ON 10/13/2007. FRONT BRAKES REPLACED AND ROTORS TURNED. ON 10/15/2007 CHECK ENGINE, VSC AND TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON. VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN WITHOUT INCIDENT. VEHICLE TAKEN TO DEALER ON 10/20/2007. DEALER IDENTIFIED PROBLEM AS SKID CONTROL COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. COST $1390. *TR
THIS APPEARS TO BE EXCEPTIONALLY COMMON. THE VSC TRAC, VSC OFF AND ABS AND PARKING BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON, THE BRAKES ARE DEGRADED AND THE FRONT END VIBRATES AS THE BRAKES APPEAR TO BE PULSING. THIS HAS HAPPENS SPARE-ATTIC ALLY OVER THE YEARS. AT FIRST WE THOUGHT IT WAS THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND WE HAD THE TIGHTENED, SINCE IT SEEMED THAT THERE MIGHT BE SOMETHING LOOSE AND IT WAS ENGAGING AS WE DROVE. THAT WASN'T IT, OBVIOUSLY AND IT CONTINUES TO OCCUR. WITH SUCH A HEAVY, LARGE TRUCK, WE HAVE NEARLY REAR-ENDED OTHERS, BUT GOT LUCKY. EACH TIME THE CAR PULLS TO ONE SIDE SHARPLY AND YOU HAVE TO STOP AND RESTART THE CAR TO GET ALL THE LIGHTS TO TURN OFF AND COME BACK TO NORMAL. I HAVE HAD THE BRAKES DONE AND REDONE SEVERAL TIMES AND THIS STILL OCCURS.. ON EACH OCCASION WE COULD GET OUT OF IT, BUT ITS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE SOMEONE GETS HURT. TOYOTA HAS OBVIOUSLY IGNORED THIS..I HAVE DOWNLOAD THE COMPLAINTS AND THERE ARE >500 ON THIS VERY TOPIC. AS I READ THROUGH ALL THESE, THE SIMILARITY BETWEEN THEM IS BEYOND COINCIDENCE AND IT APPEARS THAT NOTHING ACTUALLY FIXES THIS. AS OF RIGHT NOW. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, ANOTHER VEHICLE CRASHED INTO HER REAR PASSENGER DOOR. THE VEHICLE ROLLED OVER TWICE. NONE OF THE 4 AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE CONTACT SHOULD CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED INJURIES TO HER HEAD, HEART AND BODY. THERE WAS MAJOR VEHICLE DAMAGE TO THE FRAME. THERE IS A POLICE REPORT. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 47000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE CONTACT FELT A SLIGHT VIBRATION COMING FROM THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. HE STATED THAT THE ABS LIGHT REMAINS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER HAS NOT INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. THE POWER TRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 87,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN.

I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA AND THE VSC LIGHT RECENTLY CAME ON. THE DEALER IS STATING THAT THE VSC COMPUTER NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT MY COST. THEY EXPLAINED THAT IT IS COMMON ON THE SEQUOIA, BUT A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN ISSUED. THE COST IS 1500 + THE DANGER IS LOSING CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE DURING BRAKE MALFUNCTION. I HAVE READ OF SEVERAL OTHERS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE DEALER STATS THAT I SHOULD BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO DRIVE, BUT 2 TIMES I HAVE LOST ABILITY TO USE BRAKES. ITS NOT UNTIL I RESTART THE CAR THAT THE BRAKES WORK AGAIN. DANGEROUS, VERY DANGEROUS. THIS PROBLEM APPEARS ALL OVER THE INTERNET WITH THIS TRUCK, ITS TIME FOR A RECALL. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT HE HAD A SAFETY RECALL REPAIR PERFORMED ON HIS VEHICLE REGARDING THE LOWER BALL JOINTS A WHILE AGO. ON JULY 25, 2007, HE TOOK HIS VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE DUE TO A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE HE RECEIVED REGARDING THE BRAKES. AT THAT TIME, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE OUTER EDGES OF HIS TWO FRONT TIRES WERE COMPLETELY BALD. THE SERVICE STATION STATED THAT THERE WAS PLENTY OF TREAD ON THE TIRES BECAUSE THEY HAD LESS THAN 20,000 MILES. THE PURCHASE DATE WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 51,120.
I OWN A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. I TOOK IT IN FOR NEW TIRES,WITH BALANCING AND AN ALIGNMENT. THEY ALSO DID BRAKE WORK ON THE FRONT. IT NEEDED CALIPER PINS AND THE ROTORS WERE TURNED. IT HAD 47,481 MILES ON IT. WHEN MY WIFE LEFT THE DEALERSHIP THERE WAS A FAILURE OF THE VSC (VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL) SYSTEM. THE SYSTEM NEVER ONCE BEFORE MALFUNCTIONED UNTIL AFTER THE SERVICE AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. IT IS CLEAR THAT THE DEALER MESSED SOMETHING UP. THEY CLAIM THEY DID NOTHING TO CAUSE IT. WE TALKED THE HEAD MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP. THE MANAGER DENIED THAT IT COULD BE IN ANY WAY THEIR FAULT. IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE SERVICE CAUSED THE FAILURE? I DON'T KNOW WHAT TOYOTA HAS THEIR MECHANICS DO BUT SOMEONE NEEDS TO DO A FULL INVESTIGATION. THE VEHICLE NOW IS A HAZARD TO DRIVE. I CURRENTLY CAN'T AFFORD THE $1500 DOLLARS TO REPLACE THE COMPUTER. COULD IT BE RELATED TO THE KIND OF TIRES PUT ON OR DUST OR METAL IN THE SENSORS? FAILURE CODES ARE C0210 (RIGHT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL MALFUNCTION, C1223 (ABS CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTION) , AND C1310 (ACTIVE BOOSTER SOLENOID). THE SEQUOIA'S VSC LIGHT COMES ON OFTEN AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE EVEN WHEN THE PEDAL IS PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. IT HAS ALMOST CAUSED ABOUT 2 BAD ACCIDENTS. WE CURRENTLY DRIVE IT BUT DON'T RELY ON IT FOR PASSING. IF THE SYSTEM FAILS WE JUST HAVE TO DRIVE SLOW AND STAY IN OUR LANE. I DO KNOW THAT TOYOTA KNOWS THAT THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO USE A DIFFERENT SKID CONTROL COMPUTER IN NEWER MODELS. WE NEED A RECALL. I HAVE SEEN MANY REFERENCES TO THIS SAME EXACT PROBLEM. FOR THE SAFETY OF OUR DRIVERS PLEASE ISSUE A RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER OBVIOUSLY DIDN'T TEST THE SYSTEM BEFORE IT WAS ALLOWED ON THE MARKET. *TR

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE PARTS ARE ON BACK ORDER FOR FOUR MONTHS. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO CALL OTHER DEALERS, BUT NO ONE ANSWERED THE PHONES. NO FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED AT THIS TIME. THE POWERTRAIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE IS 62,000 AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE IS INAPPLICABLE.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY BETWEEN 10-15 MPH ON A SLIGHTLY BUMPY ROAD SURFACE. THERE WAS PRESSURE APPLIED TO THE BRAKE PEDAL, FOLLOWED BY NO POWER RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE FAILED TO SLOW DOWN. THE DRIVER SWERVED TO THE SHOULDER OF THE ROAD TO AVOID OTHER VEHICLES. THE VEHICLE CAME TO A ROLLING COMPLETE STOP. THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE RESTARTED AND RESUMED TO NORMAL OPERATION. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON ONE OCCASION. IN ADDITION, THE "BRAKE" WARNING LIGHT INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON THREE SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE BRAKE PADS AND ANTI-BRAKE COMPUTER SYSTEM WERE REPLACED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I HAVE A 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA VIN NUMBER [XXX]. ON 6/15/10 I EXPERIENCED LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL RELATED TO THE VEHICLE STABILIZATION AND BRAKING SYSTEM COMPUTER. THREE LIGHTS LIT UP ON THE DASH (VSC, TRAC, AND BRAKE) AND THEN UPON BRAKING THERE WAS A GRAB RELEASE SENSATION THAT I WAS UNABLE TO CONTROL. I WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN THIS OCCURRED. FRIDAY, DECEMBER 22, 2006, WHILE DRIVING I EXPERIENCED A SWIFT PULL TO THE DRIVER'S LEFT, CORRECTED IT THEN SECONDS, LATER THE VEHICLE GAVE A VIOLENT JERK, ACCOMPANIED BY A HORRIFIC SOUND OF STEEL SCRAPING WITH THE SMELL OF BURNING METAL. THE VEHICLE VEERED TOWARD TRAFFIC IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION SO I FOUGHT TO HOLD THE STIRRING FROM TURNING IN TO ONCOMING TRAFFIC OR ROLLING OFF THE ROAD DOWN THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. MY CHILDREN SCREAM AND CRIED HYSTERICALLY AS THEY WATCHED AND EXPERIENCE OUR VEHICLE VIOLENTLY THRASHED ABOUT. SMOKED AND SPARKS BELLOWED UP ALONG THE PASSENGER AND FRONT SIDES OF THE VEHICLE. I GOT THE VEHICLE TO THE SIDE OFF THE ROAD, OUT OF TRAFFIC INCHES FROM A 20' (TWENTY-FOOT) DROP OFF. I HAVE READ NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ACROSS THE INTERNET OF SIMILAR VSC COMPUTER FAILURES AND TOYOTA'S KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM. WE BELIEVE THIS COST SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE EMISSION SYSTEM'S WARRANTY BUT THE DEALER SAID 'NO' AND WE RELUCTANTLY PAID IT. ON A TRIP TO CA, THE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE QUIT WORKING. WE WENT TO A TOYOTA DEALER IN VICTORVILLE, CA ON DEC.3, 2007 (66,587 MI.) WE WERE TOLD THE OIL PRESSURE WAS FINE BUT THE 'COMBO METER' NEEDED REPLACING AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $900. WE DECLINED THE SERVICE. AT SOME POINT AFTER THAT, THE VSC OFF AND VSC TRAC LIGHTS CAME BACK ON. ON APRIL 1, 2009 (87,456 MI.) WE TOOK THE CAR IN TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TO HAVE THEM CHECK ON THE LIGHTS. WE WERE TOLD THE 'SKID CONTROL ECU' NEEDED REPLACING AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $1400. WE DECLINED THE SERVICE. THE LIGHTS ARE STILL ON TO THIS DAY AT 165,977 MILES. IN DEC. 2011, AFTER A SNOWY DAY, WE WERE TRAVELING ABOUT 25 MPH WHEN THE CAR BROKE TRACTION AND SENT US SPINNING 180* OUT-OF-CONTROL. MY TRACTION CONTROL, SKID CONTROL, AND ABS WARNING LIGHTS CONTINUED TO LIGHT UP INTERMITTENTLY ON MY 2004 TOYOTA SEQUOIA. WHILE THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE ON, THE BRAKES WOULD SUDDENLY GRAB, MAKE A TERRIBLE NOISE, THEN BRING THE CAR TO A QUICK AND SUDDEN STOP. I NARROWLY AVOIDED 2 DIFFERENT CAR ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THE CAR SUDDENLY STOPPING. I TOOK THE CAR TO BOTH A TOYOTA DEALER AND AN INDEPENDENT CAR REPAIR SHOP SPECIALIZING IN TOYOTA CARS. BOTH REPORTED THIS WAS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM AND THAT THEY HAD TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM ON 5 - 6 TOYOTA SEQUOIAS PER MONTH. THE DIAGNOSTIC CODES REPORTED FROM THE CAR'S COMPUTER INCLUDED CO215 (LR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR MALFUNCTION), CO1223 (BRAKE PEDAL STROKE FORCE SENSOR MALFUNCTION), CO1247 (ABS SYSTEM MALFUNCTION), AND CO1310 (SOLENOID CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION). THE REPAIR SHOP REPLACED BOTH THE ABS/SKID CONTROL ECU AND ACTIVE BOOSTER SOLENOID FOR A TOTAL COST OF $2410. IF THIS IS A WELL KNOWN PROBLEM, WHY HAS TOYOTA NOT IMPLEMENTED A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE. MIRACULOUSLY, WE WERE ABLE TO GET CAR OFF OF FREEWAY WITH NO INJURY OR DAMAGE. UNDERSTAND THERE IS AN OUTSTANDING RECALL OF 775,000 VEHICLES INCLUDING SEQUOIA'S OF OUR YEAR FOR THIS PROBLEM. WE CALLED TOYOTA WHO REFUSED TO PAY FOR OUR REPAIRS TWICE BASED ON THE VIN NUMBER OF OUR VEHICLE. WE APPEALED THROUGH OUR DEALER AND WERE REFUSED AGAIN BY TOYOTA. MEANWHILE, WE HAD TO PAY MORE THAN $2,000 FOR REPAIRS AND HAVE RECEIVED NO ASSISTANCE OR ACKNOWLEDGEMENT FROM TOYOTA. THIS ACCIDENT COULD HAVE COST ME, MY WIFE AND CHILDREN, AND POSSIBLY ANOTHER VEHICLE'S OCCUPANTS THEIR LIVES. THE VEHICLE STRUCK OR VEHICLE ON THE RIGHT MID PASSENGER DOOR. OUR VEHICLE TO ROLLOVER TO THE RIGHT 2.5 TIMES AND SKID 200 FEET. NO AIRBAGS DEPLOYED AT ALL! THEIR WERE 6 PASSENGERS IN OUR SEQUOIA THAT DAY AND EVERYONE WAS WEARING THEIR SEAT BELT. MY HUSBAND THE DRIVER SUSTAINED THE FOLLOWING INJURIES: HEAD, AND LEFT ARM CONTUSIONS AND ABRASIONS AND COMPLAINED OF HEADACHE. HE ALSO SUFFERED NECK AND BACK PAIN. MYSELF: I SUFFERED A CONCUSSION FROM HITTING THE RIGHT FRONTAL AND TOP PORTION OF MY HEAD, SEVERE NECK AND BACK PAIN & HEADACHE, LEFT WRIST & HAND CONTUSION WITH TENDON & LIGAMENT DAMAGE. BILATERAL KNEE PAIN WITH LIGAMENT DAMAGE. MULTIPLE ABRASIONS AND UNSTABLE VITAL SIGNS. MY MOTHER-IN-LAW WHO WAS SITTING BEHIND MY HUSBAND IN THE 2ND ROW SEATING. SHE SUSTAINED MULTIPLE CONTUSIONS TO HIPS AND SHOULDERS AND SUSTAINED 2 PELVIC FRACTURES. COMPLAINED OF HEAD, NECK, AND BACK PAIN. MY FATHER-IN-LAW WHO WAS SITTING DIRECTLY BEHIND PASSENGER WHO SUSTAINED 3 NECK FRACTURES ONE SECTION OF HIS NECK VERTEBRAE WAS CRUSHED. HE ALSO HAD A SEVERE LACERATION/CRUSH INJURY TO HIS RIGHT THIRD DIGIT. HE HAD MULTIPLE CONTUSIONS AND ABRASIONS. COMPLAINED OF HEAD, NECK, AND BACK PAIN. OUR YOUNGEST DAUGHTER WAS IN THE 3RD ROW SEATING SITTING IN THE MIDDLE. SHE SUSTAINED MULTIPLE CONTUSIONS AND ABRASIONS AND COMPLAINED OF HEADACHE, BACK & NECK PAIN ALONG WITH ABDOMINAL PAIN. OUR OTHER DAUGHTER WAS SITTING IN THE FAR LEFT 3RD ROW SEATING (BEHIND DRIVER) SHE SUSTAINED A RIB FRACTURE AND SEVERE HEAD LACERATION AND HAD MULTIPLE CONTUSIONS AND LACERATIONS. SHE COMPLAINED OF HEADACHE, NECK AND BACK PAIN. *NM
MY 2004 SEQUOIA VSC TRACK, TRAC OFF, AND EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTS, TURN ON WHILE I'M DRIVING OR WHILE THE TRUCK IS IDLING. HAVE TAKEN IT SEVERAL TIME TO MY TOYOTA DEALER. THEY NEVER SEEM TO FIND WHATS WRONG. MY WARRANTY IS OVER AND I NEED TO KNOW IF TOYOTA WILL FIX THE PROBLEM, SINCE I HAVE RECORDS OF REPORTING IT TO MY TOYOTA DEALER. TODAY TOYOYA IS REFUSING TO FIX MY 2004 SEQUOIA THAT WAS RECENTLY RECALLED FOR FRONT SUSPENSIION-CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT.THE CONSEQUENCES IS THAT THE LOWER JOINT MAY SEPAPARTE FROM THE KNUCKLE CAUSING LOSS OF STEERING CONTROL AND A CRASH COULD OCCURR WITHOUT PRIOR WARNING.TOYOTA REFERENCE #200507150957
