THE ENGINE LOCKED UP.*JB
THE REAR BRAKES HAVE BEEN SQUEAKING WITHIN THE FIRST YEAR WITH LESS THAN 10,000 MILES. THE LOCAL DEALER INSPECTED AND TRIED TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM THREE TIMES WITH NO IMPROVEMENT. ON 03/12/2003, THE DEALER WORKED ON THE SQUEAKING BRAKES THE THIRD TIME AND REPORTED THAT DEALER WILL CALLED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE LINE AND WILL FOLLOW UP ON THIS ISSUE, CUSTOMER WILL BE ADVISED. HOWEVER, THE SQUEAKING BRAKES ONLY GET WORSE AND NEVER HEAR FROM NEITHER DEALER NOR TOYOTA. I CALLED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND THEY TOLD ME IT WAS THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT CHANGE IN THE WAY MANUFACTURES MAKE BRAKES SHOES. I CAN NOT BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA BLAME THIS CONTINUE EXCESSIVELY SQUEAKING BRAKES PROBLEM TO FEDERAL GOVERNMENT. PLEASE FILE YOUR COMPLAINT IF YOU HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. *LA
TOYOTA SIENNA ENGINE FIRE. THE CONSUMER INQUIRED WHEN THE RESULTS OF THE FIRE INVESTIGATION WOULD BE PUBLISHED. *AK *JB
PROBLEMS: 1: THE STARTING IDLE WILL NOT KEEP CAR ON IF TEMPERATURE IS BELOW 60 AND I HAD TO PAY $200, JUST TO HAVE TOYOTA CLEAN IT, BUT THEY WOULD NOT REPLACE IT. EVEN AFTER IT BEEN CLEANED THE PROBLEM STILL HAPPENS RANDOMLY. 2: TIRE PRESSURE GAUGE SENSOR HAS ALWAYS BEEN ON EVEN AFTER ITS BEEN RESET TWO DIFFERENT TIMES. 3: RANDOMLY THE FRONT WHEELS WILL VIBRATE THEN STOP AFTER ABOUT 15 MILES. I'VE REPLACED WITH NEW TIRES AND HAD BRAKES DONE TWICE BUT PROBLEMS STILL PERSISTS. *NM
I OWN A 2002 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW FROM MAGIC TOYOTA IN EDMONDS WA. THE VAN HAS 20000 MILES ON IT AND IS NOW IN NEED OF A NEW ENGINE. I HAVE HAD IT SERVICED BUT APPARENTLY THE TOYOTA ENGINES HAVE AN OIL SLUDGE BUILD UP PROBLEM WHICH DESTROYS THE ENGINE IF IT OCCURS. TOYOTA IS UNCERTAIN AT THIS JUNCTURE IF THEY ARE GOING TO REPAIR THE ENGINE WHICH IS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. I HAD IT SERVICED ON 11/20/02 AT MAGIC TOYOTA. FOUR WEEKS LATER THE ENGINE IS DEAD LINED WITH BLUE SMOKE, POOR COMPRESSION, AND A KNOCK. I HAVE RECENTLY READ THAT TOYOTA ENGINES FROM 2000 ON WERE HAVING THIS PROBLEM. I AM ALSO UNDERSTANDING THAT THE STATE OF IDAHO AND POSSIBLY CALIFORNIA ARE FORMULATING A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT ON THIS ISSUE. TOYOTA IS CLAIMING THAT IT IS AN OWNER MAINTENANCE ISSUE NOT A DEFECT. I REQUEST TO FILE AN OFFICIAL COMPLAINT AGAINST TOYOTA IN REFERENCE TO THIS ENGINE DEFECT. THEY ARE NOT STANDING GOOD FOR IT. AN ENGINE WITH 20,000 MILES ON IT SHOULD NOT BE DEAD LINED. TS
THE SLIDING PASSENGER DOOR ON MY MINIVAN DOES NOT OPEN FROM THE OUTSIDE. THIS STARTED WHEN THE VAN WAS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD AND UNDER WARRANTY. TOYOTA LUBED AND ADJUSTED IT AND SAID IT WAS OK. OVER THE NEXT 7 YEARS IT WOULD WORK FOR A WHILE AND THEN START AGAIN. TOYOTA CONTINUED TO LUBE AND ADJUST AND AT ONE POINT SAID THEIR ENGINEERS HAD REALIZED THAT THE SPRING WASN'T STRONG ENOUGH SO THEY PUT A HEAVIER SPRING IN IT. IT IS STILL NOT WORKING. NOW TOYOTA SAYS IT WON'T DO ANYTHING ELSE BECAUSE THE WARRANTY IS LONG GONE. I TOLD THEM THEY LUBED AND ADJUSTED ME OUT OF MY WARRANTY AND THEY NEVER FIXED IT. SO NOW I HAVE A DOOR THAT CANNOT BE OPENED FROM THE OUTSIDE. *TR
SEAT BELT FAILURE ON 5 OF 7 SEATS IN 2002 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN - MULTIPLE TIMES AND CONTINIOUS AND ON-GOING PROBLEM - ONLY 3 WORK AS OF NOW (3-21-07). DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR OR CONCERNED WITH.*AK
2002 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH 47,542 MILES BRAKES SQUEAK WHEN STOPPING. TOYOTA SAYS THERE IS A TSB BUT THAT I HAVE EXCEEDED THE MILEAGE UNDER WHICH THEY WILL FIX THE ISSUE. SEEMS THAT IF THE BRAKES HAVE AN ISSUE TOYOTA SHOULD FIX THE PROBLEM REGARDLESS. ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF TOYOTA NOT SUPPORTING FAULTY PRODUCTS, IN MY OPINION. VERY FRUSTRATED WITH SERVICE RECEIVED FROM TOYOTA AFTER DEALING WITH THIS AND OIL SLUDGING ISSUES AND THEIR LACK OF CONCERN FOR CUSTOMERS. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND THAT ANYONE LOOKING FOR A VEHICLE LOOK ELSE WHERE, IN MY OPINION. YOU DO NOT GET WHAT YOU THINK YOU ARE GETTING WHEN YOU PURCHASE A TOYOTA, IN MY OPINION. I THOUGHT TOYOTA MEANT RELIABLE, LONG LASTING ETC. NOT SO IN MY EXPERIENCE OF DEALING WITH THIS VEHICLE. THIS IS MY FIRST AND LAST TOYOTA. BUYERS BEWARE! WHILE DRIVING 45MPH SUNVISOR MOVED TO SIDE WINDOW, SUNVISOR DANGLES OVER CONSUMER'S HEAD. *AK

2002 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE-ORIGINAL OWNER. BRAKES HAVE SQUEAKED SINCE AROUND 5000 MILES. DEALER SAYS 'SIENNA'S BRAKES JUST SQUEAK" AND SHRUGGED THEIR SHOULDERS. DIDN'T EVEN INSPECT BRAKES. HAD BRAKE PADS REPLACED WITH TOP OF THE LINE PADS IN AUG 05. LEFT THE PARKING LOT AND THEY CONTINUED TO SQUEAK. EVERY TIME THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED. PASSENGER IN THE REAR STATED IT WAS VERY LOUD IN THE REAR, HOWEVER, I HEAR IT VERY PRONOUNCED AS THE DRIVER. CALLED TOYOTA ANOTHER TIME AND THEY SAID THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE, SO THERE IS NO RECALL, ETC. ON 3 OCCASIONS, WHEN BRAKES PRESSED SUDDENLY, THE BRAKE PEDAL JUMPS AND WOULDN'T ALLOW ME TO PRESS BRAKES FURTHER. SCARY. BRAKES DON'T JUST SQUEAK. I WISH I WOULD'VE DISCOVERED THIS WEBSITE BEFORE MY WARRANTY WAS UP. NOW, WITH 58000 MILES ON MY VAN, I FEEL THEY WOULDN'T DO ANYTHING. I BROUGHT MY CONCERNS 3 TIMES WITH IN 5K-25K MILES, AND WAS IGNORED. I WISH I WOULD'VE PURSUED THIS EARLIER. I WOULD'VE TRADED THIS VEHICLE IN A HEARTBEAT, HOWEVER, I DON'T HAVE A PAYMENT, SO THAT IS WHY I'VE CHOSEN TO LIVE WITH THE SQUEAKING. IT IS VERY VERY VERY STRESSFUL. AND VERY VERY ANNOYING. I REPORTED THE INCIDENT TO TOYOTA AND GOT FILE#200208160275 AND TO DUNLOP AND GOT REPORT#568588, NONE OF THE TWO SEEM TO REALLY CARE ABOUT THE PROBLEM, TOYOTA MENTIONED IT WAS A DUNLOP PROBLEM AND THAT TOYOTA DOES NOT WARRANTY THE TIRES, DUNLOP MENTIONS THAT I HAVE TO TAKE THE TIRE TO A DUNLOP DEALER AND THEY WILL ONLY REPLACE THE TIRE BLOWN BUT NOT THE ONE AT THE OTHER SIDE OF THE CAR. WE FEEL REALLY UNSAFE WITH THESE TIRES AS THERE WAS NO VISIBLE CASUE TO THE PROBLEM EXCEPT FOR THE HEAT AND THE SPEED, WE ALMOST LOST CONTROL OF THE CAR.*AK
WHILE TRAVELING ON HIGHWAY VEHICLE VEERS TO LEFT. DEALERSHIP IS AWARE OF PROBLEM.*AK
DT: CONTACT STATES THE BRAKES ARE SQUEAKING ON HER VEHICLE. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS INDICATING A PROBLEM. WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES DURING THE WINTER MONTHS THE PEDAL PULSATED. IF SHE APPLIED THE BRAKES RAPIDLY, THERE WAS A PROBLEM STOPPING THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER SAID THEY COULD NOT FIND ANYTHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKES. THE BRAKE PADS HAVE BEEN REPLACED, BUT THIS DID NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM. *JB
POWER SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE. WHEN PUSHED BY HAND, THE SAFETY MECHANISM ENGAGES AND RE-OPENS THE DOOR. I HAVE DISENGAGED POWER TO DOOR USING DASHBOARD SWITCH. WILL BRING IN FOR REPAIR LATER THIS WEEK.*AK
TOYOTA SIENNA SLUDGE & FUEL SYSTEM FAILURE.*AK
AUTOMATIC DOOR OPENS, BUT WILL NOT CLOSE. OWNERS MANUAL RESCUE INFORMATION DOES NOT WORK. THREE MAJOR AND SEVERAL MINOR FAILURES. DOOR OPENED WHILE ON VACATION AND WAS NOT CLOSED UNTIL WE COULD GET AWAY FROM THE BEACH. TODAY OPENED DOOR IN RAIN STORM AND IT WOULD NOT CLOSE. HAVE TAKEN IT IN UNDER WARRANTY REPAIR WAS LUBRICANT. TODAY TOOK IT IN AND THEY WANT 70.00 DOLLARS TO DIAGNOSE THE PROBLEM PLUS REPAIR. THEY CLOSED IT AGAIN WITH MASSIVE LUBRICATION. *JB
I AM NOT ALONE IN THIS ISSUE. JUST GOOGLE IT. I HAVE HAD AN ISSUE WITH MY ENGINE LIGHT BEING ON CONSISTENTLY SINCE I HAVE BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE, BRAND NEW. I HAVE SPENT HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS, ENDLESS HOURS AND A LOT OF ANXIETY AND FRUSTRATION. WHEN I LIVED IN OHIO, IT WAS NOT A "BIG DEAL" BECAUSE THERE WERE NO EMISSION REQUIREMENTS. WHEN I MOVED TO ARIZONA, IT BECAME A NIGHTMARE. I HAVE HAD SEVERAL SERVICES BY TOYOTA ON THE VAN. I HAVE PAID HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS FOR WHAT THEY TELL ME IS THE PROBLEM AND IT STILL HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. I READ OTHER PEOPLES STORIES ONLINE AND THE SAME "REMEDIES. SUGGESTED BY TOYOTA AND THEIR COMPUTER READOUTS" THAT COST HUNDREDS, SOMETIME THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS AND IT IS STILL NOT FIXED. THE SAFETY ISSUE ARISES, WHEN IS THE ENGINE LIGHT A REAL ISSUE AND WHEN IS IT JUST TOYOTAS MANUFACTURING DEFECT? THERE IS NO WAY TO TELL. I AM CAMPAIGNING AND WILLING TO ORGANIZE A SOCIAL MEDIA RECALL. I AM TIRED AND OUT OF MONEY FOR REPAIRS THAT DO NOT WORK. IT IS TIME FOR TOYOTA TO ADMIT THE ISSUE AND FIX IT. THANK YOU. *TR
ANOTHER VEHICLE HIT CONSUMER'S VEHICLE AT 70 MPH IN REAR, CONSUMER RAN HEAD ON INTO THE GUARDRAIL, VEHICLE WAS TOTALED, NONE OF THE AIR BAGS DEPLOYED. CONTACTED DEALER. CONSUMER STATES THAT THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS SIDE AIRBAGS. *AK *TT
TIRE BURST AT LESS THAN 30MPH. 3+ INCH RIP THROUGH EXTERIOR SIDEWALL ALONG RADIAL LINE OF TIRE. NO IMPACTS OR OTHER ADVERSE INITIATING EVENTS. NO SIGNS OF OTHER PUNCTURE. MY WIFE WAS ACCELERATING FROM A STOP LIGHT. WE ARE IN THE DC AREA AND STILL HAVE THE TIRE (AT THE MOMENT) FOR EXAMINATION. CONSUMER WAS TRAVELING ABOUT 40MPH ON HIGHWAY COMMING FROM DEALERSHIP WITH A BRAND NEW VEHICLE. SMOKE WAS COMMING FROM ENGINE DEPARTMENT. THEN, THE FIAMES STARTED COMING FROM HOOD. VEHICLE BURNED DOWN TO THE GROUND AND WAS TOTALED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. DEALERSHIP WAS AWARE OF PROBLERM.*AK
CONSUMER PURCHASED VEHICLE ON AUGUST 4,2001, AND ON AUG 6 VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE.CONSUMER WAS DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH WHEN POWER STEERING FAILED, AND COULD NOT TURN STEERING WHEEL. CONSUMER THEN NOTICED SMOKE. ,WAS ABLE TO PULL TO SIDE AND GET CHILDREN OUT OF VEHICLE. FLAMES WERE COMING FROM UNDERNEATH VEHICLE. ENGINE TOTALLY MELTED, AND POSSIBLY WAS A TOTAL LOSS. THE CONSUMER STATED THAT THE POWER STEERING RACK WAS DEFECTIVE. *YH
MIDDLE TO REAR SEAT W/FAILURE; THE SEAT BELTS LOCK-UP UPON MOVEMENT WHERE THE SHOULDER PORTION GETS TIGHTER WITH THE SLIGHTEST MOVEMENT. IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN USAGE OF THE SHOULDER BELT, THE OCCUPANT(S) MUST REMOVE THE SEAT BELT AND REFASTEN. PLEASE DESCRIBE DETAILS. TS
THE BRAKES FAILED, WHICH CAUSED CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, WHICH RESULTED IN AN ACCIDENT. *JB
THE REAR BRAKES SQUEAKED EXCESSIVELY WHEN BRAKING. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS CAUSED BY THE FEDERAL GOVERNMENT'S CHANGE IN THE WAY MANUFACTURERS MAKE BRAKE SHOES AND WERE UNABLE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THE CONSUMER IS VERY CONCERNED ABOUT THE EFFECTIVENESS OF THE BRAKES. *NLM
THE OIL LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON 5/28/2003 AND IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS SLUDGE IN THE ENGINE AND IT HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT FUNCTION WITH THE CURRENT ENGINE. *NLM
A RATTLING NOISE WAS HEARD IN THE SLIDING DOOR. THE CAR VIBRATED WHEN DRIVEN AT ANY SPEED AND THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS DEFECTIVE. THE OWNER WAS FRUSTRATED WITH ALL THAT WAS HAPPENING WITH LITTLE OR NO RESULTS. *AK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT HAD COME ON AND WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS FOR THE SAME PROBLEM. THE FRONT END WAS UNSTABLE. *SC *JB
FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WINDOW WAS NOT OPERATIVE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, AND MECHANIC DETERMINED THAT THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH BURNED OUT. THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH WAS REPLACED NUMEROUS TIME. *AK
