TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE OUTSIDE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR HANDLE WOULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND A TECHNICIAN REPLACED THE RELEASE MECHANISM. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 90000. UPDATED 10/28/09.*LJ SHORTLY AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE, THE CONSUMER NOTICED THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT ALWAYS OPERATE WHEN USING THE OUTSIDE HANDLE. EVENTUALLY THE DOOR WOULD NEVER OPEN WITH THE HANDLE AND THE CONSUMER WOULD PRESS THE BUTTON ON THE DOOR COLUMN TO OPEN THE DOOR AND THEN THAT STOPPED WORKING AS WELL AS THE KEY FOB OPENER STOPPED WORKING AND THE CONSUMER COULDN'T USE THE DOOR AT ALL. THE VEHICLE HAS 2 AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOORS. WHEN THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER, THEY WERE UNABLE TO GET THE DOOR TO OPEN AND THEN THE PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR FAILED. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED IT DIDN'T SEEM THE DOORS COULD BE OPENED MANUALLY WHICH IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THE STEERING COLUMN WAS ALSO REPLACED. UPDATED 10/29/09. *JB
I HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH NUMEROUS PROBLEMS. 1ST, REAR HATCH WOULD NOT STAY UP. MANY TIMES IT HIT MY HEAD WITH NO SEVERE INJURIES. DUE TO EXTENDED WARRANTY UAC COVERED REPLACEMENT AT 73,646 MILES. 2ND, DRIVER'S FRONT DOOR WAS MAKING POPPING LIKE NOISE WHEN OPENING AND CLOSING DOOR. UAC (EXTENDED WARRANTY) DECLINED CLAIM. PROBLEM HAS NOT BEEN CORRECTED. NOW WHEN I ROLL DOWN MY WINDOW, IT FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO BRAKE. BOTH PROBLEMS STARTED SIX MONTHS FROM PURCHASE DATE (10/05/04).
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE THE LIFT GATE WAS OPENED, THE LEFT REAR SUPPORT HYDRAULIC STRUT FRACTURED AND THE LIFT GATE FELL DOWN WITHOUT WARNING. NO INJURIES WERE SUSTAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER WHO DETERMINED BOTH REAR LIFT GATE HYDRAULIC SUPPORT STRUTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALERTED.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE HAD DIFFICULTY SWITCHING GEARS AND CAUSED ACCELERATION ISSUES. THE SERVICE DEALER STATED THE COMPUTER SYSTEM ADJUSTED TO THE DRIVER AND THIS WAS A NORMAL FUNCTION. HOWEVER, THE CONTACT STATED THE GEARS DID NOT SHIFT PROPERLY. UPDATED 10/18/2006 - THE VEHICLE WOULD HESITATE WHEN PICKING UP SPEED. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER FOUND CODE FOR EVAP PURGE VALVE. THE TECHNICIAN FOUND THE VACUUM LINES OFF AT INTAKE. *NM
THE VEHICLE EXHIBITS UNPREDICTABLE ACCELERATION. WHEN THE ACCELERATION IS PRESSED THERE IS A DELAY OF SEVERAL SECONDS BEFORE THE VEHICLE RESPONDS RESULTING IN AN UNSAFE SITUATION. *TR
MY LIFTGATE ON OUR 05 SIENNA VAN BEGAN ACTING VERY STRANGE, NOT OPENING FULLY, CLOSING ON PEOPLE WHILE IN THE BACK OF THE VAN, ALMOST CAUSING INJURY TO MY 9 YR. OLD. VERY ODD BEHAVIOR. THE DEALER SAID WE NEED TO REPLACE THE STAY SUB-ASSEMBLY AND TWO BRACKETS. *JB
I WAS REACHING INTO THE REAR PART OF MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE MINIVAN WHEN THE HATCH STARTED TO CLOSE RIGHT ON ME. LUCKILY I WAS ABLE TO GET AWAY QUICK ENOUGH WHERE THERE WAS NO HARM DONE BUT IT WAS A CLOSE CALL. *NM
I WENT TO PUT BOXES IN THE REAR OF MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA LE AND AS SOON AS I LIFTED THE DOOR, IT FELL ON MY HEAD. AFTER LOOKING AT THE DOOR, I NOTICED WHAT APPEARED TO BE OIL ON MY BUMPER AND THE GROUND RIGHT BELOW WHERE THE STRUTS HOLDING THE DOOR WERE. IT WORKED PERFECTLY FINE THE PREVIOUS DAY, BUT I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS REALLY COULD HAVE INJURED MY CHILDREN IF IT WERE THEM OPENING THE DOOR. THE DOOR WILL NO LONGER STAY UP BY ITSELF AND IT IS A VERY HEAVY DOOR. THERE WAS ABSOLUTELY NO INDICATION THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE DOOR PRIOR TO THIS. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND SINCE I AM OUT OF WARRANTY, I WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT. ON TOP OF THAT, THEY HAVE REPLACED THE STRUT SO I ALSO WILL HAVE TO PAY FOR NEW BRACKETS. THE 2004 HAVE A TSB ON THAT VERY PART, WHY NOT THE 2005?? ISN'T IT THE SAME PART?? *NM
MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM WITH TIRE AIR PRESSURE SYSTEM. NORMAL TIRE PRESSURE IS 35 PSI. BECAUSE OF THE TIRE DESIGN, YOU CAN RUN WITH VERY LOW AIR PRESSURE AND NOT FEEL IT (ON A NORMAL CAR, IT IS VERY OBVIOUS). THAT IS WHY TOYOTA HAD TO PUT IN THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM/LIGHT. TWICE THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM DID NOT COME ON UNTIL A TIRE HAD ~10 PSI. THAT IS A DANGEROUS LEVEL. THE FIRST TIME I DID NOTHING AND THE TIRE WAS REPLACED BY THE TIRE MANUFACTURER (NAIL ISSUE) AND THE TIRE WAS LESS THEN 7 MONTHS OLD. THE SECOND TIME, I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER. THEY TESTED TWO WAYS: 1) ON THE COMPUTER AND IT PASSED; 2) TEST DRIVE WHERE ALERT LIGHT CAME ON BELOW 18 PSI. IN MY TESTING IT CAME ON BETWEEN 10-15 PSI AND IN REAL LIFE CLOSER TO 10-11 PSI (BASED ON MY 2 PROBLEMS). CHECKING TIRE PRESSURE DAILY DOES NOT HELP BECAUSE IN REAL LIFE, IF YOU TAKE A TRIP YOU CAN DRIVE FOR 3-6 HOURS WHICH IF SOMETHING HAPPENS TO THE TIRE DURING THE TRIP, YOU WILL NOT KNOW UNTIL IT FAILS (AGAIN THIS IS BECAUSE UNLIKE NORMAL TIRES, YOU CAN NOT TELL THE TIRE HAS LOST SIGNIFICANT AIR PRESSURE. YOU CAN READ HERE AND OTHER PLACES ABOUT THE CATASTROPHIC FAILURES OTHERS HAVE HAD IN JUST THIS SITUATION. I SPENT MANY MANY HOURS ON THE PHONE WITH TOYOTA TO GET THE SPECIFICATION ON WHEN THE SYSTEM SHOULD ALERT YOU. I WAS ONCE TOLD IT IS A DIFFERENCE OF MORE THEN 5 PSI. HOWEVER, IT SEEMS THAT TOYOTA HAS NO PUBLISHED SPEC FOR HOW THE SYSTEM SHOULD WORK IN REAL LIFE. THIS IS DEFECTIVE AND TOYOTA IS NOT TELLING US THE TRUTH. ALL SYSTEMS HAVE TO BE DESIGNED TO A SPEC. THIS SYSTEM WAS AND THERE IS SOMEWHERE AT TOYOTA A SPEC. THEY ARE NOT SHARING WITH CONSUMERS BECAUSE OF THE IMPLICATION IT WOULD HAVE (THEY WILL HAVE TO RECALL/FIX THEM). I DO HOPE SOMEONE AT THE NHTSA WILL PURSUE THIS SINCE IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR FAMILIES. *NM
TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM ON MY 2005 SIENNA AWD (13,000 MILES) TURNED ON. CHECKED PRESSURE IN ALL TIRES, LEFT REAR WAS BELOW 15 PSI, ALL OTHERS WERE 25 PSI (RECOMMENDED PRESSURE IS NTE 51 PSI). FILLED TIRE TO SPECIFICATION TIRE PRESSURE AND LIGHT RESCINDED. WITHIN 5 DAYS, LIGHT REAPPEARED WITH SAME PROCEDURES AND RESULTS. TOOK TO THE DEALER. DEALER REPLACED SINGLE TIRE INDICATING A NAIL WAS FOUND. WITHIN 30 MILES, THE REPLACEMENT TIRE DEFLATED (DUNLOP, OEM RUN FLAT TIRES) ON FREEWAY. NO TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM LIGHT ILLUMINATED. AIR PRESSURE WAS CHECKED AND DID NOT REGISTER ANY PRESSURE, ASSUME 0 PSI. TRIGGERED TO CHECK TIRE PRESSURE AFTER HEARING A LOUD POPPING SOUND. TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM IS NOT OPERATING AS EXPECTED AND DEALER INDICATES THERE IS NOTHING WRONG AND "THAT'S JUST HOW THE SYSTEM WORKS". REMAINING DUNLOP OEM RUN FLAT TIRES DO NOT RETAIN PRESSURE GREATER THAN 25 PSI. DEALER SAYS THEY RETAIN PRESSURE WHEN MONITORED THERE. BUT WITHIN 5 DAYS, PRESSURE RETURNS TO 25 PSI. *JB
REAR HATCH FAILS WHEN TRYING TO OPEN THE HATCH CAUSING THE HATCH TO FALL AND BECAUSE OF THE WEIGHT COULD CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY IF SOMEONE IS ATTEMPTING TO GET ITEMS OUT OF THE BACK OF THE VAN. *JB
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION FAILED AND CAR COULD NOT BE MOVED OUT OF TRAFFIC. *JB
AS WE EXITED THE DEALERSHIP AFTER PURCHASING THE 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN, THE TRANSMISSION SEEMED TO SLIP AS IT DOWNSHIFTED INTO A SLOW TURN. THIS HAPPENED SO MANY TIMES WITH VARIOUS DRIVERS THAT WE CONTACTED THE DEALER. SOME FIVE TRIPS AND WEEKS WITHOUT OUR VEHICLE, THE DEALER COULDN'T FIX IT. THEY ALSO EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM AND WOULD CONTACT THE TOYOTA REP. MORE VISITS AND CALLS AND NO REPAIR. THE DEALER SAID THE TRANSMISSION WAS GETTING USED TO THE PRIMARY DRIVER. DEALER SEEMED TO DOUBT OUR CREDIBILITY, BUT HAS AGREED TO EITHER FIX IT OR "CONVINCE US THAT THIS IS THE WAY A 2005 SIENNA VAN DRIVES." AFTER READING THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS JUST LIKE OURS, I DOUBT THAT TOYOTA CAN FIX THIS. COMPUTER WAS REPROGRAMMED AND FLUID CHANGED--MADE IT WORSE. WE GIVE UP. WE NOTE THAT THE 2006 SIENNA HAS NOT RECEIVED ANY COMPLAINTS LIKE THIS. *NM
FAILURE OF REAR LIFTGATE STRUT CAUSING LIFTGATE TO IMMEDIATELY CLOSE WE HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH A POWER REAR LIFTGATE. WHEN ONLY ONE STRUT FAILED, AS SOON AS THE DOOR WAS OPENED, IT NO LONGER HAD ENOUGH PRESSURE TO KEEP THE DOOR OPEN. AS THE THE DOOR BEGAN TO FALL, THE POWER CLOSING MECHANISM BEGAN TO PULL IT CLOSED. IN OTHERWORDS, AS SOON AS THE DOOR WAS OPENED, IT BEGAN TO AUTOMATICALLY CLOSE. FORTUNATELY THERE WERE NO INJURIES--IT JUST GAVE US A SCARE. TO CORRECT THIS FAILURE, THE DEALER IS REPLACING THE STRUTS SO THAT THE DOOR WILL REMAIN UP WHEN OPENED.
THE RIGHT WINDSHIELD WIPER LEAVES MUCH WATER DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF ME BEFORE THE LEFT WIPER REMOVES IT. EVERY WIPE, WHILE THE WATER IS IN MY LINE OF SIGHT, I STRUGGLE TO SEE THE ROAD. THIS IS DEFINITELY A HAZARD TO MY FAMILY'S SAFETY, AND SHOULD BE EASILY REPAIRED WITH A SIMPLE IMPROVEMENT IN THE DESIGN OF THE WIPER CYCLE. *JB
WHEN ACCELERATING FROM 5-10 MPH, VAN HESITATES AND THEN JERKS FORWARD TRYING TO FIND CORRECT GEAR OR CATCH UP. THIS IS ESPECIALLY DANGEROUS ON SNOW/ICE. TOOK TO LOCAL DEALER 3 TIMES AND WAS TOLD ALL OF TOYOTA'S 5-SPEED TRANSMISSIONS DO THIS AND MY SIENNA WASN'T AS BAD AS OTHERS. THE DEALERSHIP DID REPROGRAM COMPUTER AND I COULD TELL NO DIFFERENCE. I WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING ELSE THEY COULD OR /WOULD DO. I COMPLAINED TO TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND STILL GOT NOWHERE. *JB
CATASTROPHIC TIRE FAILURE ON A TOYOTA SIENNA AWD VAN WITH RUN FLAT TIRES. FORTUNATELY, NO MAJOR INJURIES OR DAMAGE THIS TIME. THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM FAILED TO SENSE THE LACK OF PRESSURE IN ONE OF THE TIRES. DRIVING ON THE TIRE WITH NO AIR PRESSURE CAUSED CATASTROPHIC TIRE FAILURE. I WAS TOLD BY THE TOYOTA DEALER THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING DID NOT MALFUNCTION, IT SIMPLY DOES NOT WORK. IT CANNOT BE FIXED SINCE TOYOTA SAYS THERE IS NOTHING WRONG. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ADAPTIVE WHEEL CHAIR LIFT FAILED TO RETRACT INTO THE VEHICLE AFTER THE FUSE BLEW. THERE IS NO MANUAL OPTION TO RETRACT THE LIFT ONCE THE POWER IS INTERRUPTED. EVERY TIME THIS OCCURRED THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TAKEN BACK TO THE BRUNO INSTALLATION SHOP FOR RESETTING. THE SEAT COMPUTER WAS RESET EACH TIME. THE LIFT IS A BRUNO LIFT-UP POWER MOBILITY SEAT WITH THE MODEL NUMBER OF TAS 5000 L.
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING ROAD DEBRIS WAS RAN OVER CAUSING A FLAT TIRE. THE TIRE PRESSURE SENOR DID NOT INDICATOR THERE WAS A FLAT TIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THE TIRE WAS UNABLE TO BE REPAIRED DUE TO THE DAMAGE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT ALERTED. *AK
2005 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE - CRUISE CONTROL WILL NOT HOLD WHEN GOING DOWNHILL. DEALER CHECKED IT, CONTACTED TOYOTA TECH. SUPPORT. THEY WERE TOLD THIS MODEL IS NOT DESIGNED FOR CRUISE CONTROL TO HOLD GOING DOWNHILL! I CONTACTED TOYOTA VIA E-MAIL AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING. I HAVE OWNED MANY CARS AND NEVER HAVE HAD CRUISE CONTROL NOT HOLD ON A DOWNHILL ROAD. IT WILL BE SET AT 60 AND CONTINUE GOING AS HIGH AS 80 WHEN BRAKES APPLIED. THIS IS A DANGER, DEFECT, SOMETHING IS NOT RIGHT WITH SUCH A DESIGN. I AM PUTTING IN A RECENT DATE, BUT IT HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. NUMBER OF FAILURES IS ON-GOING. *NM
I OWN A TOYOTA SIENNA MINIVAN AND HAVE EXPERIENCED THE PAINT ON ALL FOUR RIMS BUBBLING AND PEELING. IT IS A 2005 SIENNA XLE AWD. TOYOTA'S RESOLUTION WAS TO OFFER ME TWO RIMS FOR "FREE" IF I BOUGHT TWO AT OVER $900. I WAS STILL WELL WITHIN WARRANTY. IF YOU GO TO HTTP://WWW.NUCKLESLAW.COM/SOFTWARE-NEGOTIATIONS-EXPERT/TOYOTA-ALLOY-WHEELS-BUBBLING-TOYOTA-QUALITY-CONCERNS/ YOU WILL FIND MULTIPLE POSTINGS AND PICTURES OF THIS PROBLEM, WHICH INCLUDES LEXUS. I PAID $500 TO HAVE MY RIMS REFINISHED. TOYOTA CORPORATE IN CALIFORNIA WOULD NOT ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WHEN I CALLED THEM. FROM A SAFETY STANDPOINT, I HAVE TO THINK THAT AT SOME POINT THIS DECAY OF ALUMINUM RIMS WOULD GO FAR ENOUGH THAT IT MAY CAUSE TIRES TO SLOWLY LOSE AIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA EQUIPPED WITH DUNLOP SP4000 TIRES. WHILE HAVING THE VEHICLE INSPECTED AT AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE ALL FOUR TIRES WERE BALD. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER UNDER WARRANTY. SINCE HAVING THE TIRES REPLACED, SHE HAD EXPERIENCED FOUR BLOWOUTS ON THE FRONT AND REAR TIRES. SHE WAS INFORMED BY THE AUTHORIZED DEALER THAT THE FAILURE HAD MOST LIKELY OCCURRED BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE NOT BEING ROTATED ON SCHEDULE AND WERE UNDER-INFLATED. AFTER EACH BLOWOUT, THE FAILED TIRE WOULD BE REPLACED WITH A NEW DUNLOP SP4000 TIRE. THERE WERE NO FURTHER FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 10,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 66,000.
(1) NEW TOYOTA SIENNA 2005 NAVIGATION SCREEN CRACKED. SCREEN INTERMITTENTLY INOPERABLE, SCREEN WAS PRESSED SEVERAL TIMES IN ORDER OPEN TO OPEN DVD ENTRANCE . (2) NAVIGATION LCD SCREEN IS WORKING, BUT THE TOUCH SCREEN IS NOT (CRACKED) (3)TOOK TO A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER , TOYOTA IN GENERAL SAID THEY WOULD NOT FIX IT. *JB
POWER SLIDING DOOR FAILED TO RETRACT. ONCE WHEN MY WIFE WAS LEANING IN THE VAN TO GET SOMETHING, I ACCIDENTALLY PUSHED THE BUTTON ON MY KEY CHAIN THAT CLOSES THE DOOR. IT JAMMED HER LEG. THE DOOR DIDN'T REOPEN UNTIL I PUSHED THE BUTTON. THIS HAPPENED A SECOND TIME WHEN MY WIFE WAS AGAIN GETTING SOMETHING OUT OF THE BACK SEAT WHEN MY GRANDDAUGHTER PUSHED THE BUTTON ON THE INSIDE OF THE CAR TO CLOSE IT. MY WIFE SAID SHE EVEN TRIED TO USE HER BODY WEIGHT TO STOP THE DOOR OR TO MAKE IT OPEN BACK UP, BUT IT DIDN'T. FORTUNATELY SHE WAS ABLE TO REACH THE BUTTON. THE THIRD TIME THIS HAPPENED, MY GRANDSON WAS ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE VAN AND PUT HIS FINGERS IN THE WAY AS THE DOOR WAS CLOSING. IT TOTALLY CLOSED ON HIS FINGERS. THEY WERE SMASHED AND BRUISED. NO SERIOUS INJURIES OCCURRED. *JB
VEHICLE HAS EXCESSIVE SPARK KNOCK AT LOW SPEEDS, STARTING FROM A STOP AND AT NORMAL DRIVING SPEED WHEN ENGINE IS UNDER A LOAD. SPARK KNOCK WORSE WHEN ENGINE IS WARMED UP AND DURING WARM WEATHER. CHANGING OCTANE LEVEL DOES NOT HELP SPARK KNOCK. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING SINCE VEHICLE WAS BOUGHT IN APRIL 2005. VEHICLE HAS BEEN BACK TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES TO TRY TO FIX THE ISSUE TO NO AVAIL. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE MIDDLE PASSENGER SEAT BELT DOES NOT RETRACT. THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO THE DEALERSHIP FIVE TIMES. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY ONCE , AND PUT THE SEAT BELT BACK ON TRACK THE OTHER TIMES. THESE ATTEMPTS HAVE NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. UPDATED 06/07/2006. *AK *TS
LIFTGATE SUPPORT CYLINDER IS LEAKING, WON'T SUPPORT THE LIFTGATE. FELL ON MY HEAD THE FIRST TIME BEFORE I KNEW ABOUT THE PROBLEM. HAPPENED 1000 MILES OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE DEALERSHIP WOULDN'T HELP ME OUT. THE PART IS VERY EXPENSIVE FOR WHAT IT IS. $180.00 FROM THE DEALERSHIP. I ORDERED MINE ON THE INTERNET FOR $125.00. STILL WAITING FOR IT TO COME. *NM

I WAS LOADING PACKAGES INTO THE CARGO BAY OF MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA (MINIVAN) AND THE POWER HATCH FAILED AND CLOSED ON ME. I WAS LEANING INTO THE VEHICLE AND MY ARMS WERE PINNED. THE HATCH DID NOT GO BACK UP ON ITS OWN AND I HAD TO PUSH UP WITH MY NECK AND SHOULDERS TO FREE MYSELF. THE VEHICLE HAS APPROXIMATELY 13,500 MILES AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT OR OTHERWISE DAMAGED (TO OUR KNOWLEDGE). I WOULD ESTIMATE FEWER THAN SOME 200 CYCLES OF USING THE HATCH. THERE WAS NO WARNING OF IMMINENT FAILURE SUCH AS A GRADUAL LOWERING OF HATCH OPENING PERFORMANCE. I AM CURRENTLY GOING THROUGH REHAB FOR A CERVICAL STRAIN (SPRAINED NECK AND SHOULDERS). I BROUGHT THE VEHICLE IN TO THE DEALERSHIP TO BE INSPECTED BY THE LOCAL TOYOTA REGIONAL REP. HE SAID HE NEVER HEARD OF THIS BEFORE AND THAT I AM THE ONLY WHO WAS EVER INJURED BY THIS TYPE OF FAILURE. I DO NOT TRUST HIM TO BE TRUTHFUL AND UNBIASED. I AM AN ENGINEER AND I DO MOSTLY COMPONENT FAILURE ANALYSIS. WITH A FAIRLY NEW VEHICLE, LOW MILES AND A LITTLE USED HATCH I DOUBT THIS COULD BE A SINGLE OCCURRENCE. I DON'T CARE TO BE BAMBOOZLED BY TOYOTA. HAD THIS HAPPENED TO SOMEONE PHYSICALLY MORE FRAGILE, THEY MAY HAVE BEEN PARALYZED OR KILLED. I REQUESTED THAT TOYOTA NOT REPAIR THE VEHICLE AT THIS POINT IN TIME IN ORDER TO MAKE IT AVAILABLE FOR OTHER INSPECTIONS OR IF THIS BECOMES LEGAL EVIDENCE.*JB
IN REFERENCE TO MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA LE AWD MINIVAN, EQUIPPED WITH DUNLOP RUN FLAT TIRES. I AM SCHEDULED TO REPLACE ALL FOUR OF MY TIRES TOMORROW AS A FEW WEEKS AGO I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN THAT THE TIRES SHOWED EXCESSIVE WEAR AND NEEDED REPLACING. I BELIEVE THE TIRES SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS THEY ARE FAILING AFTER SHORT PERIODS OF TIME. ONE YR(19,000 MILES). THEY HAVE EXTREME WEAR AND MY VAN STEERING WHEEL SHAKES EXCESSIVELY OVER 55 MPH (THE REASON I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN THE FIRST PLACE).MAKING ME VERY NERVOUS TO DRIVE IT UNTIL THE TIRES CAN BE REPLACED(AT OVER $250 A TIRE). THERE ARE OTHER CONSUMER COMPLAINTS OF EXTREME WEAR AND TIRES BLOWING OUT AS WELL AS STEEL BELTS SHOWING AND PREMATURE TREAD WEAR. THIS VAN WAS A TOP CHOICE FOR SAFETY FOR MY HUSBAND AND I AS WE HAVE THREE CHILDREN. HOWEVER, IF THE TIRES AREN'T SAFE AND THEY BLOW IT REALLY DOESN'T MATTER HOW SAFE THE VAN IS, I AM SURE I WOULD END UP CRASHING. AS WELL AS MY LAST INSURANCE BILL INCREASING DUE TO EXCESSIVE CLAIMS ON THIS TYPE OF VEHICLE. I CAN'T STATE FOR SURE BUT COULD PROBABLY ASSUME THAT OTHERS ARE HAVING PROBLEMS, AND GETTING IN ACCIDENTS DUE TO THE TIRES, THAT COULD BE PROBABLY HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. *NM
AUTOMATIC REAR HATCH OPENER "FAILURE" COMBINED WITH UNCONTROLLABLE DOOR (AND DANGEROUS CRUSHING HAZARD WHEN YOU DISABLE AUTOMATIC DOOR IF IT'S IN THE UP POSITION). GRACIOUSLY, TOYOTA TOOK CARE OF THIS ISSUE AND FIXED THE HATCH. HOWEVER, I AM CONCERNED, BECAUSE THE DOOR AND RELATED SITUATION POSES GREAT RISK TO ANYONE ELSE WHO THIS PROBLEM AFFECTS. *JB
2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. CONSUMER STATES PROBLEMS WITH TRANSMISSION RESPONSE. *TGW THE FIRST ENCOUNTER THE CONSUMER HAD WITH THE DEALER WITH REGARDS TO THE TRANSMISSION WAS POOR PROGRAMMING. SO, THE DEALER RE-CALIBRATED THE ECM. HOWEVER, THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUED TO HESITATE BEFORE SHIFTING UP OR DOWN. THE PROBLEM WAS MOST NOTICEABLE WHEN SLOWING DOWN.

THE CONTACT IS CONCERNED IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT THE POSITION OF THE SAFETY BELT MAY CAUSE INJURY. THE MANUFACTURER, WHEN CONTACTED, SUGGESTED PURCHASING A FLEECE PAD TO PROTECT THE NECK FROM IRRITATION. THE FRONT AND SECOND ROW SEATS HAVE AN ADJUSTMENT HARNESS FOR SAFETY BELTS. THE VEHICLE WAS MODIFIED FOR A PERSON WITH DISABILITY AND THEREFORE THE SECOND ROW SEATING WAS REMOVED. THIS LEAVES ONLY THE THIRD ROW FOR CARRYING MORE THAN ONE PASSENGER.

I HAVE A 2005 SIENNA XLE LIMITED AWD AND NOTICED FOR THE PAST TWO WINTERS THAT WHEN I START DRIVING THE CAR AFTER A COLD NIGHT, THE FIRST FEW TIMES I USE THE BRAKES THEY'RE NOT RESPONSIVE. IN FACT I CANNOT SEEM TO BE ABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES SUFFICIENTLY HARD TO BRING THE CAR TO A STOP IF NEEDED (FROM MY HOUSE I HAVE A STEEP DOWNHILL AND THEN A STOP SIGN BEFORE CONTINUING ON A LARGER STREET.) HAVE NOTICED THIS ALSO IN OTHER PLACES/DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES. BROUGHT UP THIS ISSUE WITH THE SERVICE ADVISOR WHO TOLD ME THAT THEY COULD NOT REPLICATE THE PROBLEM (LEFT THE CAR OVERNIGHT AT THE DEALERSHIP TWICE ALREADY). ON MY 2005 SIENNA XLE LIMITED AWD, I HAVE NOTICED AT 50+ MILES AN HOUR INTERSTATE OR EVEN DOWNHILL) THAT THE CAR FEELS LIKE THERE IS EXCESSIVE ROLLING RESISTANCE, AND IF I DON;T ACCELERATE, VERY SOON IT DOWNSHIFTS (HAVE NOTICED THIS EVEN ON A DOWNHILL SLOPE AT 45 MILES A HOUR). SERVICE ADVISOR SAID ALL TOYOTA CARS AS DESIGNED TO DOWNSHIFT AS SOON AS YOU TAKE YOUR FOOT FROM THE PEDAL (SOMETHING WHICH SOUNDS VERY STRANGE TO ME, SINCE I'M DRIVING OTHER MAKES AND MODELS AS WELL). SEEMS THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT TUNED WELL. ON A SEPARATE MATTER, I NOTICED SEVERAL TIMES THAT THE CAR HESITATES TO ACCELERATE FOR A FEW SECONDS WHEN I PUSH THE ACCELERATOR A BIT HARDER AT VERY LOW SPEEDS, SUCH AS WHEN I NEED TO MERGE INTO HEAVY TRAFFIC FROM A SIDE ROAD. IT ALSO HAPPENED WHEN I NEEDED TO CHANGE THE LANES FROM A VERY SLOW MOVING LANE TO ONE WHERE I NEEDED TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY. AGAIN, SOMETHING FEELS WRONG ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION. *NM
I AM CONCERNED ABOUT SAFETY AND WEAR OF THE RUN FLAT TIRES PROVIDED ON MY 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA VAN. I HAVE 12,000 MILES ON MY TIRES AND UNDERSTAND MANY COMPLAINTS OF NEEDED REPLACEMENT AT 15,000 AT A COST OF APPROX. $345 PER TIRE AND AVAILABILITY OF THE TIRES IS SPARSE. I WAS NEVER TOLD THAT THE CAR WAS EQUIPPED WITH THESE TIRES AND HAVE NO PLACE FOR A SPARE IF I WISH TO USE A REGULAR WEARING TIRE. I THINK THE CAR SHOULD BE EQUIPPED WITH A PLACE FOR A SPARE AND TIRES RECALLED. I AM TAKING A LONG TRIP AND WILL HAVE 15,000 MILES ON MY CAR SHORTLY. 2005 SIENNA AWD. HAD A FLAT TIRE FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS BUT DID NOT NOTICE IT (ONLY DROVE IN TOWN, NOT INTERSTATE SPEEDS). THE WARNING LIGHT APPEARED BUT DISAPPEARED, AND THEN IT WAS INTERMITTENT (IT LOOKED LIKE IT WOULD TURN ON ONLY AFTER SOME DRIVING.) LUCKILY THIS DID NOT DAMAGE THE TIRES, BUT I WONDER WHAT WOULD HAVE HAPPEN IF I WERE ON THE INTERSTATE IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE AND EXPERIENCED THE SAME PROBLEM (NO WARNING LIGHT). I SEE THAT A RECALL MAY BE IN PROGRESS. *NM
I PURCHASED THIS CAR FROM JOE MYERS TOYOTA ON 02-09-2006. IT HAS ONLY BEEN A MONTH SINCE THEN AND THE CAR IS ALREADY GIVING ME PROBLEMS. I CONTACT THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY WERE NO HELP AT ALL. THE CAR DOES NOT DRIVE RIGHT. I TALKED TO THE DEALERSHIP BUT THEY SAID IT IS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. I DON'T WANT THIS PROBLEMATIC CAR ANYMORE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT ONLY CONFIRMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND PROVIDED NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000.
I HAVE A 2005 SIENNA XLE AWD, AND THE TIRES FAILED AT 20,016 MILES (THE TREAD WAS COMPLETELY GONE ON THE INTERIOR SIDE OF THE TWO FRONT TIRES). I HAD THE TIRES ROTATED AT 4,472 MILES AND 11,048. HOWEVER, ALL 4 TIRES SHOW EXCESSIVE WEAR FOR THIS AMOUNT OF MILEAGE! THE TIRES ARE FACTORY-ISSUED DUNLOP RUN-FLATS. *JB

I HAVE A COMPLAINT ABOUT SIENNA'S VSC SYSTEM. IT OVERREACTS SUDDENLY AND AT TOO MUCH A RATE, IN AN ANTICIPATED LITTLE SKIDDING THAT HAD BEEN EASILY CORRECTED MANUALLY IN MY PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE WITH OTHER CARS. I HAVE A 2005 SIENNA LE AWD. IT COMES WITH VSC, ABS, TRAC. I WAS CORNERING A 30 MPH LEFT TURN WITH THE VAN GOING 35 MPH ON HIGHWAY 431 IN NEVADA. IT WAS DOWN HILL, SO I WAS USING LOW GEAR (3) TO APPLY ENGINE BRAKING. IT WAS NOT SNOWING. THE ROAD WAS DRY WITHOUT SNOW. ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, THERE WERE SOME GRAVELS/SALTS. THE VAN VEERED TO THE RIGHT A BIT AS I WAS MAKING A WIDE TURN. IT WENT OFF THE LANE ABOUT 1 OR 2 FEET ONTO THE SHOULDER, BUT STILL ON PAVEMENT. ON THE SHOULDER, THE FRONT WHEELS SKIDDED BY A VERY LITTLE AMOUNT, WHICH IS ANTICIPATED AND NORMAL IN MY DRIVING EXPERIENCE AND HAD ALWAYS BEEN HANDLED WITH EASE. HOWEVER, THE VSC KICKED IN SUDDENLY, CAUSING THE VAN TO TURN TO THE LEFT TIGHTLY AND AT A VERY FAST RATE, INTO THE OPPOSITE LANE ON THE UNDIVIDED 2-LANE HIGHWAY. IT ALL HAPPENED IN A BLINK OF EYES. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC IN THE OPPOSITE LANE, AND I WAS ALERT ENOUGH TO QUICKLY STEER THE VAN BACK TO MY LANE, AVOIDING HITTING THE MOUNTAIN ON THE LEFT. THE VSC LIGHT DID COME ON IN FEW OTHER OCCASIONS, BUT THE VAN WAS NEVER OUT OF MY CONTROL IN THOSE CASES. FROM MY PAST DRIVING EXPERIENCE OF 20 YEARS (MANY OF WHICH WERE WITH SNOW), I REALLY FEEL THIS IS AN OVERCORRECTION BY THE VSC BY A HUGE AMOUNT. I AM STARTING TO FEEL VERY UNCOMFORTABLE THAT SUCH VSC REACTION CAN'T BE REDUCED (E.G., TO A SLOWER AND LESSER RATE) OR COMPLETELY TURNED OFF. IT'S WINTER TIME AGAIN AND I AM GOING TO SKI WITH MY FAMILY. IT REMINDS ME THAT I HAVE NOT FILED THIS COMPLAINT YET AND THAT I WILL HAVE TO BE DRIVING NERVOUSLY, WHO KNOWS WHEN VSC IS TO KICK IN AGAIN, BY HOW MUCH AMOUNT, OR AT WHAT RATE. *NM

ALTHOUGH THE GEARSHIFT WAS NOT VISIBLY SEEN CHANGING GEARS, THE VEHICLE WAS PHYSICALLY FELT SHIFTING DOWN AND LOOSING MOMENTUM. THE VEHICLE WAS SEEN BY THE LOCAL DEALER. THE DEALER REPROGRAMMED THE COMPUTER, BUT THE PROBLEM PERSISTED. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DETERMINE HOW TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM.
THE POWER SLIDING DOORS ON MY SIENNA VAN "FREEZE UP" UNDER CERTAIN COLD MOIST WINTER CONDITIONS MAKING IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO OPEN THEM (YOU HAVE TO CLIMB IN FROM THE FRONT DOOR) AND THEN ONCE YOU MANAGE TO GET THEM OPEN, THEY WILL THEN NOT CLOSE PROPERLY. I HAVE HAD TO DRIVE MILES WITH THE DOOR ALARM SOUNDING AND THE HEAT FULL BLAST BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO STOP AND GET THEM TO FINALLY CLOSE. THIS IS DANGEROUS, BECAUSE ALTHOUGH THE DOOR LOOKS "CLOSED" IT IS NOT HOOKED IN AS SIGNALED BY THE ALARM. I DOUBT IF I WAS HIT IF THE AIR BAGS WOULD FUNCTION PROPERLY EITHER. THIS OCCURED THE FIRST WINTER I HAD THE CAR AND THEN A FEW TIMES EACH WINTER THEREAFTER, BUT SINCE OUIR WINTERS HAVE BEEN MILD, AND CERTAIN CONDITIONS ARE NEEDED FOR IT TO OCCUR PLUS LACK OF TIME, I HAVE NOT PURSUED IT. WHEN I HAPPENED TO MENTION IT TO MY DEALER, THEY DIDN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS PROBLEM COULD OCCUR AND IT WAS THEN DROPPED. OTHER SIENNA OWNERS HOWEVER, HAVE TOLD ME THEY ALSO EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM.
WE HAVE A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA WHICH WE PURCHASED NEW IN OCT. 2004. NO PROBLEMS APPEARED UNTIL NOV, 2005. THE AIR BAG (SRS) PASSENGER FRONT SEAT LIGHT CAME ON INDICATING THE AIR BAG WAS TURNED OFF AND ALSO THE DASH LIGHT CAME ON. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA DEALER WHO RESET THIS. BEFORE WE ARRIVED HOME THE SAME PROBLEM RECURRED. CONTACTED THE DEALER WHO INFORMED ME TO BRING IT BACK AS SOON AS THE LIGHT WOULD REMAIN ON FOR A DAY ETC. THIS WAS DIFFICULT AS WE ARE APPROX. 70 TO 80 MILES ONE WAY FROM THE DEALER. JAN. 20/06 RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHO RESET IT AND EVERYTHING WAS FINE, SAID THEY HAD CONTACTED TOYOTA WHO SAID IT WAS THE PASSENGER IN THE FRONT SEAT WHO WAS CREATING THIS PROBLEM, THE PASSENGER IS MY WIFE WHO WAS NOT AT ALL IMPRESSED WITH THIS STATEMENT! 20 MINUTES AFTER LEAVING THE DEALERSHIP THE SAME PROBLEM RETURNED. THE DEALERSHIP WAS NOW CLOSED. PHONED TOYOTA DIRECT ON JAN. 30/06 AND RECEIVED A CLAIM NUMBER AS I WAS UNABLE TO RECEIVE ANY MORE ASSISTANCE FROM THE DEALERSHIP. LATEST WORD NOW FROM THE DEALERSHIP IS THEY ARE WAITING TO HEAR FROM THERE TOYOTA SERVICE REP. AND WILL SIT UP AN APPT. WHEN HE IS AVAILABLE. THIS AIR BAG HAS TURNED ITSELF OFF AT LEAST 27 TIMES SINCE THE END OF NOV./05. THIS IS VERY SERIOUS AS MY WIFE, FAMILY AND FRIENDS RIDE IN THIS CAR AND IN THE EVENT IF AN ACCIDENT WITH THIS AIR BAG TURNED OFF WILL NO DOUBT POSSIBLY LOSE THERE LIVES. THERE JUST DOESN'T APPEAR TO BE ANY HURRY TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM AND HOPE YOU MAY BE ABLE TO OFFER SOME ASSISTANCE. *JB
CONSUMER PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE DEFLATED WHILE DRIVING. THERE WERE NO WARNING LIGHTS, DEALER INFORMED CONSUMER THAT THERE WOULD BE A WARNING LIGHT SHOWN IF PRESSURE DROPPED TO 5%. *TS THE WARNING LIGHT DIDN'T ILLUMINATE TO LET THE CONSUMER KNOW THE TIRE HAD WENT FLAT. THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE SENSOR WAS TIED INTO THE ABS. *JB
EXTREMELY RAPID TIRE WEAR ON DUNLOP RUN FLAT TIRES THAT WERE ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT ON A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA AWD VAN. THE TIRES HAVE BEEN ROTATED SEVERAL TIMES. AT LESS THAN 17,000 MILES AT LEAST ONE IS DOWN TO THE WEAR MARKERS. THE OTHERS ARE NOT FAR BEHIND. I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS ONGOING ISSUE FOR NEARLY ALL OWNERS OF THESE AWD VANS. THESE ARE VERY EXPENSIVE TOP OF THE LINE TIRES. NOW A DAYS 40,000 + MILES IS THE NORM! I CAN'T BELIEVE THAT A $33,000+ VEHICLE IS SOLD LEGALLY WITH SUCH INFERIOR EQUIPMENT TIRES!. *JB
AFTER ONLY 19,000 MILES OF USE, THE RUN-FLAT TIRES ON MY TOYOTA SIENNA HAVE BEEN WORN AWAY SIGNIFICANTLY TO A DANGEROUS LEVEL. THE DEALER HAS RECOMMENDED ONLY REPLACEMENT WITH THE SAME EXACT TIRE MODEL, AS NO OTHER TIRE BRAND OR MODEL MAY BE USED WITH THIS VEHICLE. AT ONLY 6,000 MILES ONE TIRE HAD FAILED SPONTANEOUSLY WITHOUT TRIGGERING THE LOW-PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM. I HAD BEEN TOLD BY DEALER THE NON-VISIBLE EDGE OF TIRE (SIDE FACING TOWARD THE VEHICLE) HAD WORN THROUGH THE TREAD COMPLETELY. THAT TIRE WAS REPLACED AT MY COST, ASSUMING IT WAS A UNIQUE AND ISOLATED INCIDENT. I SEE NOW THAT THESE TIRES ARE INADEQUATE. *JB
