I HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE SLIDING DOOR WHEN IT SNAPPED SUDDENLY WHILE IT WAS ON A STEEP HILL, THE CAR WAS STATIONARY ON A CITY STREET . NOW THE DOOR IS STUCK AND I CANT OPEN IT NEITHER AUTOMATICALLY NOR MANUALLY.
VERY STIFF WHEN TURNING. STEERING SEEMS TO LOCK AND MAKING A TURN AND RETURNING TO NORMAL DRIVING POSITION IS FAULTY, I TOOK IT TO TWO MECHANICS AND THEY BOTH SAID IT WAS THE RACK AND PINION THAT HAD TO BE REPLACED. IN LOOKING AT THE DATABASE I SEE THAT THIS PROBLEM DOES EXIST WITH THE TOYOTA SIENNA. RECALL SHOULD BE INITIATED AS THIS POSES A VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, THE FRONT PASSENGER HEATED SEAT BECAME EXTREMELY HOT TO THE TOUCH WITHIN MINUTES OF ACTIVATING THE SEAT HEATER. THE CONTACT LATER DISCOVERED A BURN HOLE IN THE LEFT LEG SECTION OF THE FRONT DRIVER SEAT. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
POWER SLIDING DOOR STUCK OPEN. WOULDN'T BUDGE - WE LIVE IN THE UPPER PENINSULLA OF MICHIGAN AND THIS HAPPENED DURING THE MIDDLE OF WINTER AS WE WERE GETTING OUR CHILDREN TO SCHOOL. TEMPS WERE IN THE SINGLE DIGITS WITH WIND CHILLS -10 TO -20 DEGREES. HAD TO PHYSICALLY FORCE THE DOOR SHUT TO CLOSE IT. IT'S STILL IN THE SAME STATE I LEFT IN. DOESN'T OPEN. IT'S JUST BARELY CLOSED/LATCHED SO THE BEEPER DOESN'T GO OFF INDICATING THE DOOR IS AJAR. CABLE IS BROKEN. OTHER DOOR IS SLOWLY CLOSING ON POWER AND WHEN TURNED OFF (POWER OPTION) THE DOOR SOMETIME WON'T STAY OPEN BUT WILL SLIDE BACK TO CLOSED POSITION. SUPER HEAVY DOOR AND LITTLE CHILDREN DON'T CREATE A SAFE ENVIRONMENT.
VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION: TOYOTA SIENNA 2005 VSC (ANTI SKID SYSTEM) KICKS IN UNEXPECTEDLY FOR NO REASON. NUMEROUS TIMES I HAVE BEEN DRIVING STRAIGHT ALONG DRY ROADS ONLY TO HAVE MY ABS (ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM) SUDDENLY COME ON, THE VAN SLOW DOWN, WITH THE VSC ALARM GOING OFF, AND THE VSC LIGHT BLINKING. IT'S VERY SCARY, ESPECIALLY ON THE HIGHWAY, AND IT BECOMES HARD TO CONTROL THE VAN. THIS HAS HAPPENED AT HIGH (~55 MPH) AS WELL AS LOW (~25-30MPH) SPEEDS. I DRIVE 90% ON SMOOTH, WELL-PAVED SUBURBAN ROADS, AND ABOUT 10% ON HIGHWAYS. THE FREQUENCY OF THIS DEFECT IS DEFINITELY INCREASING. ONE DAY IT HAPPENED 4 TIMES IN ONE TRIP! ALL FOR NO REASON, AND ALL UNDER DRY, NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS ON SMOOTH, SUBURBAN ROADS. MY VAN HAS 113K MILES ON THE ODOMETER. THIS DEFECT CREATES A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHERE THE VEHICLE SLOWS SUDDENLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY, AND SWERVES TO ONE SIDE WITHOUT WARNING. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND HOW THERE HASN'T BEEN A RECALL YET. A QUICK SEARCH ONLINE SHOWS MANY PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS EXACT SAME EXPERIENCE.

DOOR CHECK BROKE LOOSE AT WELD TO DOOR FRAME ON DRIVERS SIDE FRONT DOOR. COST OVER $500 TO HAVE A NEW ONE INSTALLED. DIDN'T REALLY NOTICE WHEN IT HAPPENED, JUST WHEN IT DIDN'T WORK ANYMORE (THE DOOR WOULD SWING OPEN WIDER WITHOUT STOPPING) (ABOUT NOVEMBER 2015).
2005 SIENNA ANTI SKID ACTIVATES WITHOUT PROVOCATION, SIMILAR TO MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS, SKID VSC COMES ON FOR NO REASON, PUTTING ON BRAKES UNCONTROLLABLY. HAPPENED ON FREEWAY IN RAIN AND ALMOST LOST CONTROL. SEE THE WEBSITES AND DEALER COMPLAINTS. SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED HERE. DO SOMETHING! 2005 SIENNA, SRS AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING. VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN INVOLVED IN A CRASH. CONNECTORS WERE CHECKED AND WERE SECURE. RAN SCAN ON SRS WITH INNOVA 3150 AND RECEIVED ERROR CODE B0101 "OPEN IN D SQUIB CIRCUIT". AFTER RESEARCHING ONLINE, IT SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM IN THE 2005 AND 2006 MODELS. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL. SOME DEALERS JUST WANT TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE AIRBAG SYSTEM, WHICH IS AN EXPENSIVE SOLUTION. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN FOR TOYOTA.
THE DOOR CHECK WAS REPLACED BY TOYOTA FOR PREVIOUS OWNER.THE DOOR WELDS ARE BROKE AND POPS AND THE DOOR CHECK HAS BROKEN PLASTIC.TOYOTA REPLACED THE SPARK PLUGS, BUT JUST THE FRONT. FRONT WERE DENSO AND BACK WERE NGK. LOCAL DEALER SAYS THEY DO NOT MIX PLUGS. LOCAL DEALER SAYS THEY WILL INSPECT THE SHIFTER AND LEAVE IT WHEN THE RECALL SAYS THEY WILL REPLACE IT. ON THE DASH , IT WAS ALSO FIXED BY THE DEALER BECAUSE IT MELTED. I WAS TOLD BY LOCAL DEALER I HAD UNTIL 2024 TO GET IT FIXED WHEN ACTUALLY IT GOES OUT IN 2017. I AM BEING MISLED ON PURPOSE SO THEY DO NOT HAVE TO FIX THEIR PROBLEMS. NO ONE IS WATCHING THEM AND LETTING THEM DO WHAT EVER THEY WANT NO MATTER YOU SPEND OVER $40,000 PLUS FOR THEIR TRASH THEY WILL NOT STAND BEHIND. IF THEIR IS A FACTORY DEFECT IT SHOULD BE AN AUTOMATIC RECALL BECAUSE THEY CANNOT BE TRUSTED TO DO THE RIGHT THING. LETS WAKE UP AND HELP THE PEOPLE BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF. IT HAPPENED WHEN TOYOTA PUT A NEW DOOR CHECK IN IT.THEY HAVE THE RECORDS AND IT WAS ON MY CARFAX. I BOUGHT IT LIKE IT IS BEING TOLD THE DEALER WOULD HONOR THEIR LETTER. THEY REFUSED TO FIX IT AND I AM STILL WAITING ON THE DASH. THEY DO NOT HAVE ANY AND TIME WILL RUN OUT BEFORE THEY GET TO MINE JUST LIKE THE DOOR. IT SWINGS WIDE OPEN NOTHING TO STOP IT. THE SHIFTER I WILL JUST LIVE WITH IT BECAUSE IF THEY CAN'T BE TRUSTED TO CHANGE ALL YOUR PLUGS ,CAN YOU TRUST THEM TO DO ANY WORK TO YOUR TOYOTA VEHICLES.DO NOT BUY TOYOTAS BECAUSE THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT YOU, JUST SELLING THEIR CHEAP CARS!
2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO VEHICLE BRAKES MALFUNCTION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY AT NORMAL SPEED, THE ANTI-SKID ACTIVATED ON A DRY ROAD. THE CONSUMER STATED THE INCIDENT HAPPENED SEVERAL MORE TIMES, EACH TIME AS THE ROAD CURVED TO THE RIGHT. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A MECHANIC. HOWEVER, HE WAS UNABLE TO FIND A PROBLEM, EXCEPT FOR OVER-INFLATED TIRES. THE CONSUMER TOOK THE VEHICLE TO ANOTHER MECHANIC, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE ABS CONTINUED TO ACTIVATE. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH, IT WAS DETERMINED THE ISSUE WAS THE STEERING SENSOR. IT WAS REPLACED AT A COST OF $ 850. AS THE CONSUMER LEFT THE SHOP, THE LEFT REAR BRAKE WAS NOT WORKING PROPERLY, MAKING ODD SOUNDS. *JB
CONTACTED LOCAL DEALER AND TOYOTA ABOUT "CUSTOMER SUPPORT PROGRAM ZE6" CRACKED DASHBOARD. DEALER KEEPS PROMISING TO INSTALL MONTH AFTER MONTH, FOR THE LAST SIX MONTH WITH NO RESOLUTION. TOYOTA SAID THEY NO ETA ON REPLACEMENT DASHBOARDS. CAR IS NOT IN A SELLABLE CONDITION WITH CRACKED DASHBOARD.
IT JUST TURN ON ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM AND BRAKE LIGHTS. TOYOTA TOLD ME THAT THE ACTUATOR IS DAMAGED, REPLACEMENT COST $ 1,900.00. SAFETY ISSUE

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 45 MPH, THE TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND AN AUDIBLE ALARM WAS ACTIVATED BEFORE THE STEERING SUDDENLY JERK THE VEHICLE TO THE LEFT AND RIGHT. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE HAD OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS AND WOULD ONLY LAST A FEW SECONDS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 185,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA SIENNA. APPROXIMATELY FIVE YEARS AGO, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE SLIDING DOOR FAILED TO UNLOCK. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT NOW THE REAR DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR WOULD NOT UNLOCK. BOTH DOORS WERE EQUIPPED WITH POWER LOCKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PULLEY WAS BROKEN AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT, BUT THE DOORS WOULD NOT OPEN MANUALLY EITHER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 190,000.

THE SEAT BELT WAS FULLY EXTENDED AND WOULD NOT RETRACT; THEREFORE, IT DID NOT SAFELY GUARD THE OCCUPANT IN THE SEAT. THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELTS ARE NOT RETRACTING PROPERLY WHEN FASTEN. AS A RESULT, THE SEAT BELT HAS TOO MUCH SLACK AND THIS WILL NOT PROTECT THE OCCUPANTS FROM AN ACCIDENT OR BODILY INJURY. THE DRIVERS BELT ALSO HAS BECOME FRAYED.

I WAS DRIVING NORTH ON INTERSTATE 55/70 APPROXIMATELY 5 MILES EAST OF THE POPLAR STREET BRIDGE WHEN THE SUNROOF SHATTERED. THERE WAS NO INDICATION OF A PROBLEM WITH THE ROOF AND NOTHING WAS THROWN UP BY OR DROPPED FROM A VEHICLE IN THE AREA AND I WAS NOT PASSING UNDER AN OVERPASSING STREET. THE SUNROOF JUST SHATTERED ON ITS OWN DROPPING GLASS INTO THE VEHICLE AS WELL AS OFF THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. I CLOSED THE INTERIOR SHIELD TO MINIMIZE THE AMOUNT OF GLASS IN THE VEHICLE, BUT GLASS CONTINUED TO FALL OFF THE BACK OF THE VEHICLE ALL THE WAY BACK TO ORLAND PARK.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE LATCHING MECHANISM FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED ON SIX SEPARATE OCCASIONS, HOWEVER THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER DECLINED TO PERFORM THE REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 113,000.
ON THE TOYOTA SIENNA THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF REPORTS OF THE DOORS NOT OPENING OR NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN THEM. ON MY SISTER'S CAR THE AUTOMATIC ELECTRIC DOOR AS WELL AS THE MANUAL DOOR HAVE BOTH STOPPED WORKING. WITH THESE DOORS BEING BROKEN AND UNABLE TO OPEN...ANYONE IN THE BACK OF THE CAR WOULD BE TRAPPED IN AN ACCIDENT OR FIRE. THESE DOORS NEED TO BE RECALLED.
2005 SIENNA XLE LIMITED. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM ACTIVATES RANDOMLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY IN DRY CONDITIONS - MOST OFTEN ON DOWNHILL, ANGLED TURNS, AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 25 MPH AND 60 MPH. A SUDDEN DASH-BOARD ALARM SOUNDS WITH VEHICLE SKID LIGHT. SIMULTANEOUSLY, THERE IS A SUDDEN, INDEPENDENT ACTIVATION OF FRONT BRAKES, GRINDING NOISES, THE STEERING WHEEL SHUTTERS WILDLY, AND THE VEHICLE ATTEMPTS TO PULL TOWARDS ONCOMING LANES. IT REQUIRES GREAT EFFORT TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. THE IMMEDIATE RESULT IS A LOSS OF VEHICLE CONTROL! THIS DEFECT HAS OCCURRED 8 TIMES IN 3 MONTHS. SERIOUS FEARS ABOUT OPERATING THE VEHICLE WITH MY FAMILY. A FRONT-END ALIGNMENT WAS DONE ON THE VEHICLE. PROBLEM PERSISTS. MULTIPLE REPORTS HAVE BEEN FILED THAT THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL VEHICLE. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY DEFECT AND THE VEHICLE SHOULD BE RECALLED TO PREVENT INJURY OR FATALITIES! THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD THAT CAN LEAD TO A SERIOUS HIGHWAY ACCIDENTS!
THE PASSENGER SIDE MIDDLE SEAT SEATBELT WILL NOT RETRACT. IT IS FULLY EXTENDED, WILL NOT RETRACT AND THEREFORE DOES NOT SAFELY GUARD THE PERSON SITTING IN THIS SEAT. THE FAILURE OF THE SEAT BELT HAS EFFECTIVELY REMOVED THE USE OF ONE SEAT OF A SEVEN-PASSENGER VAN. IT IS NOW A SIX-PASSENGER VAN. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THIS WAS DUE TO SPOT WELDED METAL ON THE DOOR CHECK MOUNTING PANEL THAT WAS SEPARATING FROM THE DOOR BODY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 88,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT A ROLLER NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DASHBOARD FAILURE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT IS TWISTED AND WON'T RETRACT. IT PROVIDES NO PROTECTION AND WILL NOT WORK IN A CRASH. THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM WITH ALL SEAT BELTS IN THIS CAR. *TR PLEASE GET THIS RECALLED BEFORE SOMEONE IS HURT.

SO I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH TOYOTA FROM 2004-2007. IF SOMETHING WOULD HAPPEN THAT REQUIRED VEHICLE EVACUATION THRU THE DRIVERS WINDOW IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE WHEN THE WINDOW DOES NOT FULLY OPEN BECAUSE OF A KNOWN DEFECT.
THE DRIVER SEAT BELT WILL NOT RETRACT CAUSING IT TO BE COMPLETELY USELESS.

THIS MAY INCREASE THE CHANCES OF DRIVER DOOR FROM REMAINING INTACT DURING A COLLISION, OR WORSE A FATALITY. I HAVE NEVER SEEN SUCH A WELD FAILURE IN ANY NEW OR OLD VEHICLES THAT I HAVE OWNED, AND SEEMS TO BE A DESIGN/ASSEMBLY ERROR. TOYOTA ISSUED A WARRANTY EXTENSION FOR 5 YEARS FROM PURCHASE BUT MOST WELDS FAIL AFTER 6 OR MORE YEARS OF OPERATION. WHILE DRIVING ON 4 LANE HIGHWAY, I BEGAN TO SMELL BURNING RUBBER, THEN NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY DISCHARGE INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON. FOUND THAT THE SERPENTINE BELT DRIVING THE ALTERNATOR AND COMPRESSOR HAD BEEN SHREDDED AND WAS HANGING TO THE GROUND. UPON A CLOSER LOOK, THE CRANKSHAFT PULLEY HAD FAILED (IT HAD COME APART). IT APPEARED THAT THE OUTER RING HAD SEPARATED FROM THE RUBBER INNER RING OF THE PULLEY AND THE OUTER RING HAD BECOME MISALIGNED. THE MISALIGNMENT APPEARED TO HAVE CAUSED THE SERPENTINE BELT FAILURE. IT ALSO CAUSED DAMAGE TO THE TIMING BELT COVER, THE TIMING BELT AND THE POWER STEERING BELT. THE BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON BECAUSE OF THE FAILED SERPENTINE BELT. FORTUNATELY, I MAINTAINED POWER STEERING BECAUSE THE POWER STEERING BELT HAD NOT COMPLETELY FAILED WHEN I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE FAILURE SEEMS TO BE IDENTICAL TO THAT COVERED BY SAFETY RECALL NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V539000. HOWEVER, TOYOTA CLAIMS THAT MY VIN NUMBER IS NOT SUBJECT TO THE RECALL. TOYOTA'S RESPONSE TO ME DOES NOT MAKE SENSE SINCE THIS IS THE SAME MODEL, SAME MODEL YEAR, SAME ENGINE MODEL, SAME PARTS MANUFACTURE (PULLEY CONTAINS THE MARK NOTED IN THE RECALL), SAME MANUFACTURE DATE (FEB. 2005), ETC OF THE VEHICLES COVERED BY THE RECALL. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP, THEY REFUSED TO FIX THE PROBLEM BECAUSE MY VIN # IS NOT AFFECTED BY THE WARRANTY ENHANCEMENT AND EVEN IF MY VIN # WAS AFFECTED, ITS TOO LATE TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF ANY HELP FROM TOYOTA. I HAVE CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE, THEY KNOW ALL ABOUT THE ISSUE AND WILL NOT HELP ME EITHER. EVERYONE FROM TECHS, SERVICE ADVISORS AND MANGERS THEY ALL KNOWS THE PROBLEM EXIST BUT WILL NOT FIX IT BECAUSE THEY WANT THE CONSUMER TO PAY FOR IT. I TOOK MY VAN INTO TOYOTA FOR ANOTHER REASON AND WAS TOLD AT THE TIME IT WAS LEAKING AT THE RACK AND NEEDED A NEW DRIVE SHAFT AND BOOT TO THE TUNE OF 1200 DOLLARS. WE ARE STILL DEBATING WHAT TO DO AND ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED IN TOYOTA. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE BASED ON TOYOTA'S REPUTATION FOR QUALITY BUT HAVE FOUND THIS VEHICLE PARTICULARLY REPAIR PRONE. WE HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE RADIATOR, PARKING BRAKE AND HAD A VERY EXPENSIVE SERPENTINE BELT REPLACEMENT DUE TO THE FUSION OF DISSIMILAR METALS. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT TOYOTA'S ENGINEERS SHOULD HAVE UNDERSTOOD THE CONSEQUENCES OF DESIGNING A VEHICLE WITH DISSIMILAR METALS THAT COME INTO DIRECT CONTACT. WE HAVE NEVER OWNED SUCH A REPAIR PRONE VEHICLE.

CHECKED ONLINE AND FOUND A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING SAME PROBLEM. *TR
THERE IS A SPARE TIRE RECALL ON 2004-2011 TOYOTA SIENNAS. THE "INTERIM" FIX REMOVES THE SPARE TIRE FROM UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE AND STORES IT IN THE PASSENGER AREA. TOYOTA HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM SINCE 2010. I BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR THE EXTRA CARGO SPACE AND THE SEVEN PASSENGER CAPABILITY. NOW AT BEST ITS A SIX PASSENGER VEHICLE WITH A PRETTY BIG TIRE UNSECURED IN THE PASSENGER/CARGO AREA. THE REASON FOR THIS RECALL IS THAT THE SPARE TIRE HAD BEEN SUSPENDED UNDER THE CAR AND NOW IT HAS BEEN DETERMINED THAT THE CABLE IS DETERIORATED AND COULD ALLOW THE SPARE TIRE TO DROP ONTO THE ROAD. IT SEEMS TO ME THAT TOYOTA IS IN NO HURRY TO MAKE A PERMANENT REPAIR. IN THE EVENT OF REALLY HARD STOP OR COLLISION THIS LOOSE TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY COULD CAUSE INJURY. *TR
