TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT BOTH THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR AND THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOORS WERE FAULTY. THE SLIDING DOOR WAS UNABLE TO BE FULLY CLOSED AND WHEN THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO REOPEN THE DOOR, IT REMAINED STUCK. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE DOOR LATCH WAS INOPERABLE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. NO REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 47,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
PURCHASED VEHICLE USED IN AUGUST 2011 WITH APPROXIMATELY 52,000 MILES. UPON STARTING VEHICLE IN LATE DECEMBER 2011 (APPROXIMATELY 56,000), AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT BEGAN TO BLINK. THE NEXT DAY, THE LIGHT DID NOT BLINK AND APPEARED UNLIT (NORMAL). THE THIRD DAY, THE LIGHT BEGAN TO BLINK AGAIN AND HAS NOT STOPPED. THERE WAS NO UNUSUAL BUMPING OR IMPACT THAT COULD HAVE CAUSED THE LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. DEALER TOLD ME THAT THE AIRBAG WIRES HAD BEEN "TAMPERED WITH" - APPARENTLY BY THE PREVIOUS OWNER (VEHICLE HAS PRIOR SALVAGE TITLE, BUT HAS BEEN REPAIRED, INSPECTED, AND APPROVED FOR SERVICE AGAIN). THE DEAL QUOTED $2,500 - $3,000 TO REPLACE FAULTY WIRING HARNESS. I DECLINED THE SERVICE IN THE IMMEDIATE, TO CONSIDER THE SAFETY AND COST REPERCUSSIONS. ALTHOUGH I DECLINED SERVICE, THE AIR BAG LIGHT CEASED BLINKING - EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. ADDITIONAL RESEARCH HAS REVEALED HUNDREDS, IF NOT THOUSANDS OF 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA OWNERS WHO HAVE HAD A NEARLY IDENTICAL EXPERIENCE. THERE ARE TSBS RELATED TO THIS ISSUE. A RECALL SEEMS NECESSARY FOR THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE RELATED TO AN APPARENT FAULTY AIR BAG WIRING SYSTEM. *TR
AIR BAG LIGHT ON INSTRUMENT PANEL FLASHES ON AND OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED A DEFECTIVE AIR BAG SENSOR, WHICH NEEDS TO BE REPLACED ALONG WITH THE AIR BAG AND AIRBAG HARNESS UNDER THE DRIVER'S SEAT SINCE THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH, WHICH COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 47000MILES ON IT BUT SINCE IT IS OVER 5YEARS IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THIS MALFUNCTION IS NOT THE RESULT OF ANY ACCIDENT OR BUMP, IT STARTED ON ITS OWN. THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED ON NUMEROUS VEHICLES AND FOR NO APPARENT REASON. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE SRS AND A CRITICAL SAFETY ISSUE. IT IS IN FACT A CLEAR VIOLATION OF BASIC FEDERAL SAFETY STANDARDS THAT SHOULD BE TAKEN CARE BY TOYOTA. *TR
MY 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA HAD TO HAVE 3 AIRBAG COMPONENTS REPLACED IN THE FIRST 17 MONTHS BECAUSE OF FAILURE OF THE SENSOR, ECU AND AIRBAG ASSEMBLY. THESE WERE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THAT THE CAR IS 5 YEARS AND 1 MONTH OLD THE OTHER FRONT AIRBAG ASSEMBLY MALFUNCTIONED AND TOYOTA HAS REFUSED TO PAY TO REPAIR IT. THE WARRANTY WAS FOR 5 YEARS AND 50,000 MILES. I NOW HAVE NO FUNCTIONING AIRBAGS BECAUSE WHEN 1 AIRBAG DOES NOT WORK THE COMPUTER TURNS ALL OF THEM OFF. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR BAG WIRING HARNESS WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 126,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 149,000. UPDATED 10/11/12*LJ THE CONSUMER WAS INFORMED THE VEHICLE NEEDED A MAIN HARNESS AND DRIVER SEAT AIR BAG HARNESS. HE WAS GIVEN A PRICE OF $ 3,169.00 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER THE PARTS WERE ON BACK ORDER. ALSO, THE ALLOY WHEELS ALLOY WHEELS WERE CORRODED. TOYOTA INFORMED THE CONSUMER, HE MUST HAVE WASHED THE WHEELS WITH THE WRONG SOAP OR TOO MUCH WINTER SALT ON THE ROADS CAUSED THE PROBLEM.

I BOUGHT A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA LE AWD FOR MY SPECIAL NEEDS DAUGHTER .THE SLIDING DOOR SNAPPED A CABLE AND WOULDN'T OPEN.,SO I HAD TO CRAWL IN FROM OTHER SIDE TO GET HER OUT,THAT WAS NOT A EASY TASK B/C SHE IS IMMOBILE AND COULD NOT HELP ME WITH GETTING HER OUT OF SPECIAL CARSEAT AND BRACE..I THINK THIS SHOULD BE TOYOTA'S JOB TO REPLACE OR AT LEAST HELP WITH REPLACING,IF NOT I WILL NEVER PURCHASE OR RECOMMEND THIS VAN TO ANYONE..I HAD HER SPECIAL SEAT ON THAT SIDE JUST FOR THAT REASON AND I WILL FILE A CLAIM WITH THIS.. *TR

THE PASSENGER POWERED SLIDING DOOR SEIZED FOR A MOMENT, OPENED, THEN CLOSED THEN OPENED, THEN CLOSED 3/4 OF THE WAY. IT WAS THEN STUCK IN THAT POSITION. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A SHORT ON THE SIDE AIR BAG ASSEMBLY AND WIRING HARNESS. AS A RESULT, BOTH COMPONENTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 73,000. WE CONTINUE TO HAVE ISSUES WITH THE AIR BAG SENSOR. I TAKE IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY RESET. IT IS OFF FOR A WHILE AND THEN IT APPEARS AGAIN. THIS HAS BEEN AN ON GOING ISSUES SINCE 12/2011 WHEN I PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE. NO RECALL HAS BEEN DONE. I FEAR THAT IF THEY JUST CONTINUE TO RESET THAT A REAL ISSUE MAY BE MISSED. *TR
THE AIR BAG LIGHT FLASHES ALL THE TIME. I TAKE IT IN AND FIX IT EVERY TIME I GET MAINTENANCE DONE. THEY OPEN THE CIRCUIT IN THE RIGHT SIDE SQUIB CIRCUIT AND ADJUST THE PIN FIT CONNECTION ON WIRE HARNESS. COSTS $60.00 TO FIX. IT HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR YEARS! I NEED TO FIND SOMEONE THAT CAN TELL ME HOW TO FIX THIS MYSELF! IT STAYS OFF FOR ABOUT A DAY OR TWO, SOMETIMES A MONTH OR TWO. THEN IT STARTS BLINKING AGAIN. *TR
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED, AND CONTINUED TO FLASH. I TOOK THE VAN TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THE NEXT BUSINESS DAY, AS A FAULTY SAFETY SYSTEM WAS CONCERNING. THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT HANDED ME A $3,000 ESTIMATE TO REPLACE A FAULTY WIRING HARNESS AND AIR BAG ASSEMBLY, ALONG WITH THE NEWS THAT THE "PLATINUM" EXTENDED WARRANTY I PURCHASED WOULD NOT COVER THE REPAIR. IT SEEMED ODD FOR A CRITICAL SAFETY SYSTEM TO FAIL WHILE THE VEHICLE IS RELATIVELY YOUNG, SO I CHECKED ONLINE. ONE SITE ALONE SHOWED 85 OWNERS OF 2006 SIENNAS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. FROM A RELIABILITY PERSPECTIVE, A CRITICAL SAFETY SYSTEM SHOULD LAST LONGER THAN THIS. THIS IS ESPECIALLY TRUE WHEN REPAIR OF THE SYSTEM IS PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE. THE ITEMS AFFECTED WERE A FLOOR WIRE HARNESS AND SIDE AIR BAG ASSEMBLY, PART NUMBERS 82161-08330 AND 73920-AE031. *TR
SLIDING SIDE DOOR DOES NOT LATCH. I HAVE SEE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS AND STILL NO RECALL. $2500 DOLLARS TO REPAIR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE INTERMITTENTLY. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO REPLACE THE AIR BAG HARNESS SINCE THE AIR BAG WOULD NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE; HOWEVER, DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.
THE THIRD ROW POWER SEAT BECAME INOPERABLE. THE SEAT BACK WOULD NOT COME UP SO SOMEONE COULD SIT THERE. TOYOTA HAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB) AND IT IS T-SB-0183-09. TOYOTA KNOWS THAT THEY HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THIS SEAT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE SEATING CAPACITY IS CUT AND NO SEAT BELTS FOR THE PASSENGERS. I WAS OUT OF TOWN AND WE HAD TO FOLD THE SEAT DOWN TO PICK UP SOME LARGER ITEMS AND WHEN WE DROPPED THOSE ITEMS OFF, THE SEAT WOULD NOT RETURN TO THE UPRIGHT POSITION. IT WAS THE LARGER PORTION OF THE 60/40 SEAT; THEREFORE CUTTING MY CAPACITY BY 2 PEOPLE. LUCK FOR US, WE ARE A FAMILY OF 5 AND WERE STILL ABLE TO MAKE IT THE 300 MILES HOME WITH EVERYONE IN A SEAT WITH A SEATBELT. IF WE HAD ONE MORE IN OUR FAMILY I DON'T KNOW WHAT WE WOULD HAVE DONE. I AM ABLE TO DO THAT TYPE OF REPAIR BUT IT WAS STILL OVER $500 DOLLARS TO REPAIR. IF YOU TAKE IT TO THE DEALER IT IS AROUND $1000! THERE IS NO MANUAL OVERRIDE OR ANY WAY TO GET THE SEAT TO WORK. YOU MUST REPLACE THE SEAT TRACK ASSEMBLY. NOW MY OTHER SIDE HAS QUIT WORKING! THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN! THEY SAY THE VAN HAS A CAPACITY OF 7. WITH THAT SEAT NOT WORKING IT IS ONLY 6. THIS WOULD BE DIFFERENT IF TOYOTA DIDN'T ALREADY ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM. I WAS A AUTOMOTIVE TECHNICIAN FOR 15 YEARS AND I WOULD ACCEPT THIS AS A PART FAILURE, IF IT WAS ISOLATED. IT IS A PROBLEM ENOUGH FOR TOYOTA TO RECOGNIZE IT AND GIVE IT A TSB! THIS SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL. *TR
WHILE PARKED I WENT TO OPEN MY PASSENGER SIDE AUTOMATIC BACK DOOR, AND IT WOULDN'T OPEN MORE THAN ABOUT 18". THIS HAPPENED WHILE A 4 HOUR DRIVE FROM HOME. WE LEFT THE CAR LIKE THIS FOR A COUPLE MONTHS. THEN IN ABOUT FEBRUARY THE DOOR STOPPED CLOSING FULLY. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THE LOCAL DEALER, AND THEY WON'T PAY FOR IT. $1100 ESTIMATE FOR A SAFETY HAZARD. *TR
THE TIRES DO NOT LAST MORE THAN 18 MONTHS ON THIS VEHICLE. THE TIRE DEALER WILL NOT WARRANTY TIRES BECAUSE IT HAS OBVIOUS MISALIGNMENT BASED ON THE TIRE WEAR. I HAD THE ALIGNMENT CHECKED AND IT IS ALL WITHIN FACTORY SPECS. THIS IS VERY FRUSTRATING. I GET LESS THAN 20,000 MILES ON A SET OF TIRES THAT COST $600. *TR
SPOT WELDS BROKE LOOSE ON FRONT DOOR CAUSING POPPING WHEN DOOR IS OPENED. *KB
HAD THE AIR BAG LIGHT GO ON AND OFF FOR A WHILE, AND WAS TOLD THAT WHEN AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON, THE PASSANGER AIRBAGS DOES NOT WORK. WHEN THE LIGHT WENT ON AND STAYED ON, I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY SAID THAT IT HAS FAULTY WIRING AND IT WILL CAUSE ALL AIRBAGS NOT TO WORK, AND THE WIRING WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED FOR $3000. AFTER SEEING ALL THE COMPLAINTS ONLINE WITH THE 2006 SIENNA WITH THE SAME ISSUE, IT IS OBVIOUS THIS IS A QUALITY AND SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED. I AM JUST THANKFUL WE DID NOT GET IN A ACCIDENT, AND HOPE TOYATO OR THE GOVERNMENT STEPS IN BEFORE SOMETHING LIKE THAT WILL HAPPEN THINKING THAT IT IS JUST THE PASSANGER SIDE AIRBAG. *TR
POWER SLIDING DOOR STOPPED WORKING, PASSENGER SIDE. I WENT OUT TO LOAD THE KIDS IN THE VAN, AND THE POWER DOOR OPENED ABOUT HALF WAY, THEN SHUT BY ITSELF. I THEN TRIED TO OPEN THE DOOR AGAIN, BUT IT WOULD ONLY OPEN A TINY BIT AND WOULD NOT SHUT. I DID NOT USE THE DOOR ANY FURTHER UNTIL I TOOK IT BACK TO THE DEALER TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. THE FINAL VERDICT, 1400 DOLLARS TO FIX THE DOOR. I BOUGHT THE VAN 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO THIS HAPPENING, AND IT ONLY HAD 61,000 MILES ON IT. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO HELP OUT IN ANY WAY, EXCEPT THAT THEY DID CUT THE CABLE AND NOW WE CAN USE IT AS A MANUAL DOOR. 5 YEAR OLD VAN WITH 61,000 MILES, AND THE AUTOMATIC DOOR FAILED. I WISH I WOULD HAVE DONE A LITTLE MORE RESEARCH, AS THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM THAT NO ONE AT TOYOTA WANTS TO ADDRESS. *TR
WE HAVE OWNED '06 SIENNA FOR MANY YEARS AND HAVE ENJOYED THE COMFORT AND SAFETY THAT IT PROVIDES BUT WE HAVE BEEN FACED WITH AN UNUSUAL PROBLEM WITH SRS AIRBAG SYSTEM THAT SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. UPON INVESTIGATING THE ISSUE ONLINE, THIS APPEARS TO BE A VERY COMMON AND A WIDE-SPREAD PROBLEM. == THE VEHICLE SRS WARNING LIGHT COMES ON AND KEEPS BLINKING WHEN VEHICLE IS FIRST TURNED ON. IT REMAINS ON OR BLINKING ENTIRE TIME THE VEHICLE IS DRIVEN. THIS HAPPENS FOR NO APPARENT REASON OR FAULT OF THE DRIVER AND THERE IS NO EXPLANATION ANYWHERE AS TO WHY THIS HAPPENS. ONCE THIS FAULT OCCURS, THE VEHICLE IS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. TOYOTA DEALERS HAVE DIAGNOSED THIS ISSUE WITH DTC B0111/0116 AND VERIFIED THIS TO BE A WARNING LIGHT INDICATING A PROBLEM WITH AIRBAG SYSTEM. THEY HAVE ALSO CONFIRMED THAT THE AIRBAGS WILL NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT. ONCE DIAGNOSED WITH THIS PROBLEM, MAJORITY OF TIMES THE CUSTOMERS ARE FACED WITH HUNDREDS OR THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS IN OUT-OF-POCKET EXPENSE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE REPAIR SEEMS TO BE ANYWHERE FROM BAD CONNECTOR FOR SRS SENSOR TO BAD WIRING HARNESS TO COMPLETE REPLACEMENT OF FRONT/SIDE AIRBAG SYSTEM. == THESE VEHICLES CLEARLY VIOLATE BASIC FEDERAL SAFETY STANDARDS 201, 202, 203, 208 & 214. IF THIS ISSUE HAS BEEN REPORTED ON NUMEROUS VEHICLES AND IF FAULT OCCURS FOR NO APPARENT REASON THEN THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT IN THE MATERIAL OR THE WAY THIS AIRBAG SAFETY IS DESIGNED. TOYOTA HAS A SERVICE BULLETINS OUT FOR THIS ISSUE BUT NO RECALL. THIS IS UNACCEPTABLE BY ANY VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARDS. THIS ISSUE NEEDS TO BE INVESTIGATED AND THE VEHICLES RECALLED BY TOYOTA AS A DEFECTIVE OR NON-FUNCTIONING AIRBAG SYSTEM IS A MAJOR SAFETY DEFECT AND COULD RESULT IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE SRS AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING WHICH CONFIRMED THAT THE AIR BAG SYSTEM WAS FAULTY. THE DEALER SUGGESTED THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE AIR BAG BE REPLACED AS WELL AS THE HARNESS. THE CONTACT CALLED MANUFACTURER AND OPENED A CASE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 43,000. THE CONSUMER STATED THE SRS WARNING LIGHT STARTED BLINKING WITHOUT ANY IMPACT. UPON GETTING A DIAGNOSIS BY THE DEALER, THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG HAD REPORTEDLY FAILED WITH DTC CODES B0111/B0116 THE FRONT PASSENGER AIR BAG, WIRING HARNESS AND SQUIB WERE REPLACED AT THE CONSUMER'S EXPENSE AT A COST OF $ 2961.33. UPDATED 05/11/12
THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. I WENT ON LINE TO SEE WHAT IT COULD POSSIBLY BE. TO MY SURPRISE I READ THAT THERE HAVE BEEN NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE. APPARENTLY THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG THAT REQUIRES REPAIR THAT ALSO INVOLVES THE WIRING HARNESS. THE FAULT CODE IS B0111. THERE IS A SERVICE BULLETIN (TSB 0162-10) REGARDING THIS PROBLEM. THE FRUSTRATING PART FOR ME AND MANY OF THE OTHER 2006 SIENNA OWNERS WHO HAVE FILED COMPLAINTS IS THAT THIS ISSUE HAPPENS JUST AFTER THE TOYOTA RESTRAINT SYSTEM WARRANTY EXPIRES AT EITHER 60 MONTHS OR 60K MILES. MY 60 MONTHS EXPIRED EXACTLY 16 DAYS BEFORE THE LIGHT CAME ON AND NOW TOYOTA IS TELLING ME THAT MY WARRANTY IS EXPIRED AND IT MAY NOT BE COVERED. THE COST OF THE REPAIR IS BETWEEN $2000 AND $3000. THIS PROBLEM RENDERS THE AIRBAGS USELESS. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM FOR 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA OWNERS AND A SAFETY RECALL HAS NOT BEEN IMPOSED. THIS SEEMS LIKE A SYSTEMATIC FAILURE BUILT INTO THE SYSTEM TO GENERATE REPAIRS AND REVENUE. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS! *TR

THE NOISY SOUND BECOMES LOUDER AND LOUDER AFTER TWO MONTHS THE ISSUE STARTED INITIALLY. WE RECENTLY PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE AND ARE VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THE QUALITY OF THE POWER DOORS. AFTER OWNING IT FOR ABOUT 2 MONTHS THE DOOR JUST BROKE. THE COST TO FIX IT IS $1800.00 PLUS TAX. WE HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THIS SEEMS TO BE AN ISSUE FOR MANY OTHER TOYOTA OWNERS. IT SEEMS THAT IT IS WAS POORLY DESIGNED AND IT WOULD BE MORE THAN NICE IF TOYOTA WOULD DO A RECALL FOR THIS SITUATION. SOMETIMES YOU HAVE TO GET OUT AND TRY AND PUSH IT TO LOCK. IT IS VERY DIFFICULT AND NOW I DON'T USE IT BECAUSE I'M AFRAID IT WON'T CLOSE AND A PASSENGER WOULD BE IN DANGER. *TR
RACK AND PINION STEERING NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MECHANIC AT FIRESTONE INDICATED THAT HE USED TO WORK AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE HE WITNESSED DOZENS AND DOZENS OF SIENNA'S WHOSE RACK AND PINION STEERING WAS LEAKING AND REQUIRED REPLACED. WE HAD THE WORK DONE AT TOYOTA BUT IT COST OVER $1,400. THE RACK AND PINION STEERING SHOULD NOT HAVE BEEN LEAKING. OUR CAR WAS GARAGE KEPT FOR 100% OF ITS LIFE, AND WAS WELL CARED FOR. I BELIEVE THIS ITEM SHOULD BE A FORMAL RECALL HANDED DOWN TO TOYOTA. THANK YOU. *TR

THE DOOR WILL PAUSE FOR 1-2 SECONDS AND THEN RE-OPEN AND STAY IN THE OPEN POSITION. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS HAVE THE SAME EFFECT. DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY DOES NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY INCLUDED AND REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 08V244000 (STRUCTURE: BODY: HATCHBACK/LIFTGATE). THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THAT BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY REPAIRED UNDER THE RECALL, THEY COULD PROVIDE NO ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED FOR THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 89,000.
IN OCTOBER OF 2011 THE PASSENGER SIDE POWER SLIDING DOOR CLOSED ITSELF WEDGING ME BETWEEN IT AND THE FRAME OF THE VAN. THE DOOR DIDN'T STOP AND TRY TO OPEN BACK UP, IT JUST STOPPED. AFTER THIS THE DOOR WOULDN'T OPEN OR CLOSE ON ITS OWN. IT HAD TO BE "MUSCLED" IN TO EITHER THE FULLY OPEN OR CLOSED POSITION. I HAD TO DO THIS MYSELF AS MY WIFE WAS NOT STRONG ENOUGH TO MUSCLE IT OPEN OR CLOSE. AFTER THIS INCIDENT I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND WAS TOLD THE REPAIRS COULD BE IN EXCESS OF $1500, WE JUST STOPPED USING THAT DOOR. ON FEBRUARY 24 2012 I WAS INFORMED BY MY WIFE WHO WAS WITH ONE OF OUR CHILDREN THAT SHE WAS STRANDED IN A PARKING LOT BECAUSE THE DRIVERS SIDE DOOR, THE GOOD DOOR, WAS STUCK HALFWAY OPEN AND WOULDN'T OPEN OR CLOSE. I CONTACTED MY TOYOTA DEALER TO SEE WHAT COULD BE DONE SO THAT MY WIFE COULD GET HOME BUT EVERYTHING THEY TOLD ME DIDN'T WORK. THERE IS NO OVERRIDE BUTTON OR FOR THE ELECTRIC MOTOR TO COMPLETELY DISENGAGE OR FREEWHEEL. THERE IS A BUTTON TO DISENGAGE THE ELECTRIC MOTOR SO THAT THE DOOR CAN BE CLOSED BUT IT DIDN'T HELP. I HAD TO MEET HER WHERE SHE WAS AND CLOSE THE DOOR WHICH TOOK 15 MIN OR SO TO DO. MY DAUGHTER WAS STILL OUT OF THE VEHICLE WHEN THE DOOR DECIDED TO CLOSE AND WEDGE ITSELF. LUCKILY SHE WASN'T ENTERING THE VAN AS IT WAS OPENING. I HEARD ABOUT THIS SITE UPON RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THERE IS A FACEBOOK PAGE FOR THIS WITH HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR
THE POWER SLIDING DOOR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WILL NOT OPEN (ELECTRONICALLY OR MANUALLY), AND THERE IS A BROKEN STEEL CABLE EXTENDING FROM THE BACK OF THAT DOOR TOWARD THE BACK OF THE REAR PASSENGER WINDOW. THE DEALER CAN'T EVEN OPEN IT. THIS A HUGE SAFETY ISSUE FOR US, AND WE MAY BE FORCED TO PAY >$3,000 JUST TO BE ABLE TO OPEN OUR DOOR. THE TOYOTA SIENNA 2006 AUTOMATED SLIDING SIDE DOOR BEGAN TO STICK AND CLOSE MORE SLOWLY ABOUT A MONTH BEFORE IT BECAME PERMANENTLY STUCK. ONCE IT BECAME STUCK, THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE, REQUIRING ME TO DRIVE WITH A HALF-OPEN DOOR TO THE DEALERSHIP OR HAVE THE CAR TOWED. WHEN I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME I COULD PAY $1600 TO REPLACE THE DOOR MOTOR AND FIX THE CABLE. TOYOTA DID NOT INFORM ME THAT WE COULD CUT THE CABLE AS A WAY TO MAKE THE DOOR AT LEAST FUNCTION. I REQUESTED THEY CUT THE CABLE, PERMANENTLY CONVERTING THE SLIDING SIDE DOOR TO A MANUALLY OPERATED SLIDING DOOR. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS DOOR MALFUNCTION, WHICH PLACES CHILDREN SITTING IN THE BACK AREA OF THE SIENNA AT RISK WHEN THE SLIDING DOOR UNEXPECTEDLY FAILS. *TR

AFTER INSTALLING NEW BATTERY, AIR BAG LIGHT GOES OFF INTERMITTENTLY. VEHICLE INVOLVED IN 2 ACCIDENTS, BUT NO ONE EVER CLEARED THE AIR BAG LIGHT. MOVING FRONT SEATS BACK AND FORTH ALSO AFFECT THE AIR BAG LIGHT. EVENTUALLY LIGHT WENT OUT AND ASSUMED EVERYTHING OKAY. MOVEMENT OF SEATS HAVE BROUGHT THE LIGHT BACK ON AND THIS TIME, STAYS SOLID. FAILED STATE INSPECTION FOR THE AIR BAG LIGHT. CODES FOUND B0111 AND B0150. RESEATED CONNECTORS UNDER THE PASSENGER SEAT = NO CHANGE. WIRING UNDER SEATS IS SUBSTANDARD AND POORLY DESIGNED. IT IS EASY TO SEE HOW THE WIRING CAN BECOME EASILY DAMAGED DURING NORMAL USE. NO PROTECTIVE CASINGS AROUND CONNECTORS TO PROTECT THE WIRES FROM ACCIDENTAL BUMPING/CORROSION. SOMETHING NEEDS TO BE DONE ABOUT THIS RECURRING PROBLEM. VERY POOR QUALITY ASSURANCE IN THIS VEHICLE. *TR
UPON RETURNING HOME FROM PICKING UP MY CHILD AT SCHOOL, I WAS UNABLE TO CLOSE THE LEFT SLIDING DOOR TO THE VAN. I TRIED WITH ALL OF THE BUTTONS (VAN, DOOR FRAME, REMOTE - I EVEN DISABLED THE AUTOMATIC DOOR AND TRIED MANUALLY), BUT NOTHING WORKED. IT WOULD CLOSE ABOUT 2/3 OF THE WAY AND THAT WAS IT. I CONTACTED TOYOTA USA AND AT FIRST, THE MAN WITH WHOM I SPOKE INFERRED THAT THIS WAS NOT A PROBLEM HE HAD HEARD ABOUT. AFTER SOME TIME, HE ADMITTED THAT THIS HAS BEEN AN ISSUE IN THE PAST. AT MY LOCAL DEALERSHIP, THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE PLASTIC PIECE THAT GOES ON THE CABLE IS KNOWN TO BREAK, WHICH IS WHAT HAPPENED TO MY VAN. THESE PLASTIC PIECES FELL INTO THE MOTOR, WHICH MADE IT MALFUNCTION. IN ORDER FOR THE AUTOMATIC DOOR TO SHUT AGAIN, I WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE MOTOR AND CABLE ACCORDING TO THE TECHNICIAN. THE ESTIMATE GIVEN WAS APPROX. $2300. THIS IS NOT AN UNKNOWN PROBLEM TO TOYOTA; THE DESIGN TEAM RECOGNIZED THIS ISSUE AND MADE IMPROVEMENTS TO LATER MODELS YET THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL ISSUED. HAD I BEEN OUT WITH ONE OR BOTH OF MY CHILDREN, WE WOULD HAVE BEEN STRANDED, UNABLE TO CLOSE THE DOOR - AUTOMATICALLY OR MANUALLY. THE DOOR WOULD NOT SHUT. I WOULD LIKE TO SEE THIS ISSUE INVESTIGATED AND FOR TOYOTA TO TAKE OWNERSHIP OF THE PROBLEM. *TR

AIR BAG LIGHT BEGAN FLASHING IN MY VAN. CHECKED MANUAL AND WAS ADVISED TO TAKE IMMEDIATELY TO DEALER FOR SERVICE. DEALERSHIP PULLED A B0111 CODE FROM THE VAN. WE WERE ADVISED IT WOULD BE APPROX $4700 FOR REPLACING THE SENSOR IN THE PASSENGER SEAT AIR BAG AND WIRING HARNESS. NEITHER ITEM IS COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND I WAS RECOMMENDED BY THE DEALERSHIP TO CONTACT MY PRIVATE INSURANCE COMPANY TO COVER THE ITEM. PRIVATE INSURANCE WILL NOT COVER THE ISSUE DUE TO NO DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. OUR VAN HAS 56000 MILES AND HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT (THANK GOODNESS) OR BEEN DAMAGED DUE TO FLOOD, FIRE, OR ANYTHING ELSE. MY WIFE WAS ALSO TOLD OF A TSB BY THE DEALER OUT ON AIR BAGS FOR TOYOTA, BUT OUR SIENNA DID NOT MEET THE CLASSIFICATION OF THE TSB. AFTER RESEARCHING THE PROBLEM WE WERE TOLD THE HIGH COSTS WERE DUE TO EXTENSIVE LABOR FOR REMOVING THE FRONT END OF THE CAR IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE HARNESS. OBVIOUSLY DUE TO NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE THERE IS A MAJOR PROBLEM WITH THIS HARNESS. THE HARNESS SEEMS TO BE FAILING AT AN ALARMING RATE AND ALL SHORTLY AFTER 50000 MILES. AFTER ALL THE OTHER PROBLEMS TOYOTA HAD WITH SAFETY ISSUES IT WOULD SEEM THAT THIS WOULD BE AN ISSUE THEY WOULD ADDRESS, BUT NO ONE AT TOYOTA IS GIVING IT MUCH ATTENTION. *KB

THE DEALERSHIP STATED THAT THIS CODE B011, IS THE RIGHT FRONT AIRBAG AND THE WIRING HARNESS NEEDS TO BE REPLACED AT A COST OF $2400 AND ABOUT 3 DAYS OF LABOR. OF COURSE OUR EXTENDED WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER THIS, EITHER. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT THE AIR BAG WILL NOT DEPLOY IF WE ARE IN AN ACCIDENT. WAS INFORMED THAT CODE B0111 WAS PULLED DURING ANALYSIS. VEHICLE NEEDS DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG REPLACED AND FLOOR WIRE. ESTIMATED COST $2573.49. WITHOUT REPAIR, AIRBAGS ARE INOPERABLE. TOYOTA ISSUED A TSB (EL001-08) FEBRUARY 27, 2008; HOWEVER, THE TSB DID NOT EXTEND WARRANTY COVERAGE FOR THIS FAILURE. NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. AIR BAG LIGHT WOULD SOMETIMES COME ON AND STAY ON, BUT USUALLY ONLY FOR A DAY OR TWO. IN NOVEMBER 2011 THE LIGHT CAME BACK ON AND STAYED ON FOR SEVERAL DAYS. WE JUST TOOK THE VAN TO LEITH TOYOTA IN RALEIGH, NC FOR A DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID THEY FOUND HISTORICAL CODES FOR THE FRONT LEFT PASSENGER AIR BAG AND "CURRENT" CODES FOR THE FRONT DRIVER AIR BAG. THEY SAID THE ONLY FIX IS TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE AIR BAG ASSEMBLY FOR $3000 (PER SIDE). THE VAN IS WORTH MAYBE $12,000 AND NOW WE ARE TOLD WE HAVE TO SPEND A TOTAL OF $6,000 FOR BOTH SIDES TO COMPLETELY FIX THE PROBLEM. TURNS OUT THE 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA HAS HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS FILED AT VARIOUS LOCATIONS FOR THE SAME AIR BAG ISSUE. TOYOTA HAS A TSB OUT FOR THE ISSUE AND SOME PEOPLE HAS TALKED ABOUT GETTING A REDESIGNED WIRING HARNESS TO CORRECT THE ISSUE FROM TOYOTA, BUT NO RECALL. THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT IN THE SRS THAT SHOULD BE COVERED BY TOYOTA. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED FOR THIS PROBLEM. THIS SYSTEM SHOULD NOT JUST BREAK DOWN OVER A FEW YEARS OF LIFE NOR COST SO MUCH MONEY TO FIX. THE COST TO FIX THE PROBLEM IS MORE THAN WHAT MOST PEOPLE CAN AFFORD. *TR
THE POWERED SLIDING DOOR WAS STUCK HALFWAY OPEN. I SHUT THE POWER TO THE DOOR OFF USING THE BUTTON BY THE STEERING WHEEL AND TRIED TO CLOSED THE DOOR, RESULTING IN A SMALL PIECE OF METAL SNAPPING OFF AND JUST MISSING MY EYE. THERE IS CABLE THAT THE DOOR SLIDES ON THAT IS DAMAGED AND FRAYED. THIS IS PREVENTING THE DOOR FROM OPENING AND CLOSING PROPERLY, EVEN MANUALLY. THE DEALER WANTS $1200 TO REPAIR THE DOOR, OR $150 TO REMOVE THE POWER AND USE THE DOOR MANUALLY. *TT
