2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SHIFT LOCK SAFETY RECALL. *LD *TR
2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. CONSUMER WRITES RECALL 17V-657 SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID ASSEMBLY & EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF SPARE TIRE DEALER OUT OF STOCK. *VA THE CONSUMER STATED THE RECALL REPAIR EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME. *JS
WHILE DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA MINIVAN THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL LIGHT AND ALARMS COME ON WHEN DRIVING IN NON HAZARDOUS CONDITIONS (E.G.. NO WATER ON THE HIGHWAY). THIS HAPPENS OCCASIONALLY ON STRAIGHT ROADS AS WELL AS CURVES AND HILLS WHEN DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. THE STEERING WHEEL MAY "LOCKUP" FOR A FEW SECONDS AND THE BRAKES SEEM TO ENGAGE. THE PROBLEM CORRECTS ITSELF AND MAY GO AWAY OR REAPPEAR IN A FEW MILES. THIS HAPPENED ON OUR 2006 SIENNA A FEW YEARS AGO BUT WE REPLACED THE DEFECTIVE TIRES AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY UNTIL RECENTLY. I HAVE READ THAT OTHER SIENNA MINIVAN OWNERS HAVE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR VEHICLES AND SOME OWNERS HAVE HAD HIT-OR-MISS SUCCESS IN GETTING THE ISSUE RESOLVED WHEN TAKING THE CAR IN FOR SERVICE FROM A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. MY NEXT STEP IS TO TAKE MY CAR INTO OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER TO PERFORM A DIAGNOSTIC EXAM TO TRY AND DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL ISSUE. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE TO LET THEM KNOW OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE READ THAT SEVERAL OTHER MAKES OF TOYOTA VEHICLES HAVE EXPERIENCED VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL ISSUES IN THE PAST AND HAVE BEEN RECALLED (SUCH AS THE 2003 TOYOTA SEQUOIA).
AT 90K MILES, POWER STEERING FLUID LEAKAGE AT RACK AND PINION. PASSENGER SIDE BOOT TORN.
STABILITY AND/OR TRACTION CONTROLS (YAW ?) SEEMED TO WANT TO BELIEVE THE VEHICLE WAS IN AN UNDERSTEER -- CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO WANT TO BRAKE AUTOMATICALLY, SOUNDING A TRACTION CONTROL ALARM. ON A BONE - DRY ROAD !!!
THE POWER DOORS ON OUR VAN BROKE AFTER HAVING IT REPAIRED. THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE UNTIL I SLAMMED IT SHUT AND THE CABLE SNAPPED. I JUST GOT THE CAR HOME. IT HAPPENED IN OUR DRIVEWAY AS WE JUST GOT HOME. CALLED DEALERSHIP WANTS 2,000 TO FIX. I PAID 800 IN MARCH 2017 FOR SAME DOOR.
WHEN I DRIVE ON A CURVE AT SPEEDS AS LOW AS 25 MILES AN HOUR, THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR TURNS ON. THE SENSOR STARTS BEEPING, THEN THE CAR SLOWS DOWN TWO TIMES (WHICH IS OUT OF MY CONTROL). THE TRACTION CONTROL SENSOR KEEPS BEEPING AND I AM NOT ALLOWED TO SPEED UP UNTIL THE CAR'S WHEELS ARE STRAIGHT AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS ON EVERY CURVE. I AM NEVER DRIVING ON AN ICY ROAD. THE ROAD IS ALWAYS CLEAR OF ANY DEBRIS, CLEAR OF SNOW AND ICE.
AIR BAG CONNECTORS ARE HAVING MOISTURE DAMAGES. THE CONNECTORS ARE OXIDIZED AND LOOSED THE CONNECTION. THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT IS ON.
ABS, VSC, TRAC OFF, BRAKE LIGHTS ON CONTINUOUSLY, PLUS TIRE PRESSURE LIGHT BLINKING. THIS IS NOT NORMAL AND ALSO ANNOYING. TOYOTA DOESN'T SEEM TO KNOW WHAT THE PROBLEM IS, AND IS ONLY WILLING TO ALLOW ME TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO "TRY" TO FIX THIS. TOYOTA NEEDS TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY! VEHICLE DRIVES NORMALLY. LIGHTS HAVE BEEN ON FOR MONTHS. I WAS DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD, WITH A CAR LOAD OF CHILDREN, LATE AT NIGHT, COMING HOME FROM A FOOTBALL GAME WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON. WE WERE DRIVING ACROSS A LONG BRIDGE, ON A 6-LANE ROADWAY, GOING ABOUT 50 MILES AN HOUR. VERY SCARY! I PULLED OVER, BUT SOON REALIZED THE CARE WAS DRIVABLE. I'VE SPENT SO MUCH MONEY, TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON. I AM SEEING ONLINE THAT THIS IS NOT EXCLUSIVE TO TOYOTAS. MANY VEHICLES EXHIBIT THIS ISSUE. INSTEAD OF HELPING US FIX IT, WE ARE SUPPOSE TO PAY MECHANICS (DEALERS OR INDIVIDUALS), THEN THE PROBLEM COMES BACK. SEEMS NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHY THIS IS HAPPENING. I'VE BEEN AN EXCLUSIVE TOYOTA OWNER FOR YEARS. IT DISAPPOINTS ME THAT TOYOTA WON'T HELP.
AIRBAG LIGHT GOES ON AND OFF DEALER SAID HE CAN FIX FOR $400. OR MORE. CLAIMS HE WAS ABLE TO WIGGLE IT TO HELP TEMPORARILY. WORKED FOR A SHORT TIME. SEEMS LIKE MANY OWNERS HAVE THIS ISSUE.
TRACTION CONTROL RANDOMLY ACTIVATES THE BRAKES AND LOCKS THE FRONT WHEEL CAUSING THE CAR TO SKID AND LOSE TRACTION. MAY RESULT IN ACCIDENT IF NOT CORRECTED. AIR BAG LIGHT IS ON TOYOTA MAKE TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN AND RECALLED OTHER VEHICLES BUT WILL NOT RECALL MY VEHICLE. DEALER WILL NOT REPAIR
DASH BOARD IS CRACKED ALL OVER . AND NOT SAFE TO DRIVE WITH KIDS OR DOGS. I'M IN FLORIDA WITCH IS VERY HOT STATE AND YOU CAN FEEL AND SEE THIS IS DANGEROUS PLASTIC DASH BOARD. . THEY GOT RECALL 2 YEARS AGO AND TOYOTA DEALERSHIP CLOSE IT . THIS YEAR MY DASH BOARD IS LOOKING HORRIBLE, BEGINS JUST THIS YEAR. I HAVE SAME PROBLEM WITH MY 2007 TOYOTA CAMRY . I THING TOYOTA USED THE SAME MATERIAL FROM PLASTIC , THAT AFTER 10 YEARS IT IS NOT SAFE FOR PEOPLE AND WAY TO EXPENSIVE TO FIX IT.
POWERTRAIN FAILS AT 140,000 MILES WHICH IS VERY UNUSUAL FOR TOYOTA [REPAIR COST ~4000 QUOTED FROM DEALER]. ALSO, THERE ARE PLENTY OF ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS STARTS WITH FAILING ACTUATORS SUCH AS SLIDING DOOR ACTUATOR [$~1500 QUOTE FROM DEALER], HVAC AIR BLEND ACTUATORS [$~850 QUOTE FROM DEALER]AND VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SOLENOIDS [$~500 QUOTE FROM LOCAL]. PLEASE HELP US AND OTHERS TO SHED SOME LIGHT ON SUCH KIND OF ISSUES SINCE IT COSTS TOO MUCH. IN WINTER TIME WHEN HEATER IS NOT WORKING.
ON 9/10/17 MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE ABOVE MENTIONED CAR. SHE TRIED TO PARK THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT, THE CAR WILL NOT SHIFT IN PARK, THE SHIFTER WAS FREE AND THEN CAR STARTED ROLLING. THE CAR WAS ABOUT TO GO OVER THE RAVINE, SHE PRESSED THE EMERGENCY BRAKES. AND STOPPED THE CAR, OTHERWISE SHE WOULD HAVE GONE THROUGH THE RAVINE AND HIT THE MAIN ROAD TRAFFIC. SHE CALLED ME AND I GOT HER HOME AND THEN WENT BACK TO TRY TO TURN THE CAR ON, IT WILL NOT RUN AND GEARS SHIFTER WAS STUCK. I GOT THE CAR TOWED TO MY MECHANIC AT EOC HOMEWOOD STORE #0102.
VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY ON A CITY STREET. SRS WARNING LIGHT SUDDENLY BEGAN BLINKING. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN INVOLVED IN A COLLISION.
I TOOK MY TOYOTA 2006 SIENNA IN TO THE LOCAL DEALER ON 9/3/16 TO HAVE THE SPARE TIRE CABLE REPLACED UNDER WARRANTY AFTER RECEIVING A LETTER FROM TOYOTA. I ASKED THE SERVICE ADVISOR IF THE VAN HAD ANY OTHER RECALLS OR WARRANTY THROUGH TOYOTA. I WAS TOLD YES FOR THE REAR LIFT GATE STRUTS BUT PARTS WOULD HAVE TO BE ORDERED. I ASKED ABOUT THE MELTING DASHBOARDS SINCE MY FATHER HAD SEEN IT ON THE NEWS AND THE VAN WAS ON THE LIST; EVEN THOUGH AS WITH THE LIFT GATE, I DID NOT RECEIVE A LETTER FROM TOYOTA. I ASKED FOR THE DASHBOARD PARTS TO BE ORDERED AT THE SAME TIME THE LIFT GATE PARTS WERE ORDERED. THE SERVICE ADVISOR TOLD ME THAT THE DASHBOARD DID NOT APPLY TO MY VAN. I WENT TO THE DEALER, ASKED FOR THE DASHBOARD AND WAS TOLD NO ON 9/3/16. I DROVE THE VAN ON AUGUST 19, 2017 AND LEFT IT PARKED IN A PARKING LOT FOR 15 MINUTES. WHEN I RETURNED I HAD A MELTING DASH! IT WAS ALL GOOEY AND STICKY TO THE TOUCH. IT WAS SHINING LIKE IT WAS COATED IN GREASE OR OIL. THE GLARE REFLECTED IN THE WINDSHIELD AND I COULD NOT SEE. I WAS ONLY 4 MILES FROM HOME AND I CRAWLED ON THE EDGE OF THE ROAD WITH THE WINDOW OPEN. I CALLED TOYOTA WHEN I GOT HOME AND FILED A CASE WHEN THEM. I WAS TOLD THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED, SO THEY WOULD NOT HELP WITH THE REPLACEMENT OF THE DASHBOARD. I WENT TO THE DEALER ON 8/22/17, WHERE I HAD ASKED FOR THE DASHBOARD BACK ON 9/3/16 AND WAS TOLD THEY SIDED WITH TOYOTA, THEY WOULD NOT EVEN ORDER IT UNLESS I PAID IN ADVANCE. I ASKED THIS SECOND SERVICE ADVISOR TO LOOK AT THE DASH AND CONFIRM IT WAS THE MELTING DASHBOARD PROBLEM. HE DID CONFIRM IT. I ASKED HIM HOW IT WAS POSSIBLE TO HAVE JUST GOTTEN STICKY ON 8/19/17. HE TOLD ME THAT IF IT WAS NOT STICKY WHEN I ASKED FOR THE REPLACEMENT, ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTIONS FROM TOYOTA, THIS IS WHY THE DEALER DID NOT ORDER IT. IT WOULD COST ME OVER $2000 FOR A REPLACEMENT DASH!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING BETWEEN 10-35 MPH, THE BRAKES ACTIVATED INDEPENDENTLY AND THE VEHICLE CONTROL SYSTEM ALARM SOUNDED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL DEALER (TOYOTA OF HUNTINGTON BEACH LOCATED AT 18881 BEACH BLVD HUNTINGTON BEACH, CA 92648, 855-661-4272), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OPENED CASE NUMBER: 1708143994. NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELT FAILED TO RETRACT PROPERLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO TOYOTA OF TRI-CITIES (6371 W CANAL DR, KENNEWICK, WA 99336, PHONE NUMBER: (855) 796-0809), BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 150,000.
THE AIRBAG INDICATOR LIGHT IS FLASHING ON THE DASHBOARD PANEL. NOTHING HAS CHANGED IN THE OPERATION OF THE VEHICLE.
THE FRONT PASSENGER STRUTS CORRODED AND THE TOP BROKE OFF COMPLETELY AND WAS SEPARATED FROM THE BODY OF THE VEHICLE . I SERVICE MY CAR REGULARLY AT THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN OUR AREA, AND I WAS NEVER TOLD I HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE STRUTS.

THE CONTACT STATED THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN EXPERIENCING A FLAT AND LOOKING TO PLACE THE SPARE TIRE ON THE VEHICLE THEY NOTICED THE CABLE ASSEMBLY FOR THE SPARE TIRE WAS RUSTED CAUSING THE SPARE TIRE TO BECOME UNABLE TO BE USED. THE CONTACT INFORMED THE DEALER OF THE FAILURE AND THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WERE NO PARTS AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL. THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THAT NHTSA WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR DISTRIBUTING THE RECALL PARTS AND THAT THE NHTSA HOTLINE SHOULD BE CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. MY SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON AS I ROUND TURNS AND THE ENGINE SEEMS TO RPM DOWN. THIS HAPPENS AT NORMAL SPEEDS, ON DRY ROADS. UNABLE TO DRIVE ON THE HIGHWAY, BECAUSE WHEN SLIP INDICATOR LIGHT COMES ON, IT ALSO APPLIES THE FRONT BRAKES AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. OTHER OWNERS OF TOYOTA SIENNA ARE ALSO HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. THE CABLE THAT OPENS AND CLOSES THE SIDE SLIDING DOOR HAS BECOME FRAYED. BASED ON MY INVESTIGATION, THIS COULD CAUSE THE DOOR TO BE STUCK EITHER OPEN OR CLOSED WHICH WOULD CREATE A SERIOUS SAFETY RISK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND THE AIR BAG AND BRAKE WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT HEARD AN ABNORMAL BEEPING NOISE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 143,332.
02/16/17 AT 5:57PM, WHILE TRAVELING NORTHBOUND ON HWY 63 (LIKELIKE) BEFORE ENTERING THE WILSON TUNNEL, A ROCK FLEW UP AND DAMAGED MY WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. IT IS SPLINTERING THE WINDSHIELD. WHO DO I CONTACT TO REPLACE IT?
MIDDLE ROW AND BACK ROW SEAT BELTS DO NOT RETRACT AND GET STUCK. THE REAR BELTS GET STUCK AND DO NOT COME OUT OR RETRACT. THIS IS ESPECIALLY A PROBLEM WITH CHILDREN AS THEY THINK THE SEAT BELT IS DEPLOYED PROPERLY WHEN IT IS NOT. THIS HAPPENED THIS MORNING, BUT ALSO HAPPENS A FEW TIMES A MONTH AND SEEMS TO BE GETTING WORSE.
AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND IS BLINKING FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS.
STEERING RACK IS LEAKING AND IT IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM ACROSS INTERNET. THIS COULD CAUSE ACCIDENTS ON HIGHWAY. THE STEERING MAKES A WEIRD AUTOMATED SOUND WHEN CAR MAKES SHARP TURNS ON SLOW SPEED. I CAN SEE THE LEAKS AROUND THE STEERING RACK. THE LEAK CAUSED MY BEARINGS TO FAIL WHICH COSTED AROUND 1000 TO REPAIR. HAD ALIGNMENT DONE THREE TIMES BUT IT GETS MISALIGNED EASILY. THE DEALERS WOULD LIKE TO GET AT LEAST $1200 TO FIX THE ISSUE. DEALERS KNOW THAT IT IS A COMMON SAFETY ISSUE BUT DOESN'T TAKE IT AS A RECALL WORTHY. HOPE NHTSA CAN HELP HERE.
I OWN A 2006 FWD TOYOTA SIENNA. THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR CHECK STRAP WELD IS DEFECTIVE. THERE IS A CRACK IN THE WELD WHICH CAUSES A POPPING NOISE WHEN DOOR IS OPENED AND CLOSED. I ASKED TOYOTA TO LOOK AT IT AND THEY WANTED $140 JUST TO ACCESS PROBLEM. A LOCAL MECHANIC SHOWED ME WHAT THE PROBLEM IS. I DID RESEARCH AND FOUND THAT THIS WAS A KNOWN ISSUE BY TOYOTA. TOYOTA SENT OUT EXTENDED WARRANTIES BUT I NEVER RECEIVED ONE. THEY ALSO GAVE THEIR MECHANICS A (TBS) TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN (NVOO3-07) WHICH I FOUND ONLINE TO MAKE THE REPAIR. I HAVE RECEIVED ALL OTHER EXTENDED WARRANTY LETTERS. UNFORTUNATELY, THE EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND NOW I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR WHICH WILL COST $470. I'M CONCERNED THE DOOR WILL BREAK OR SWING OUT UNEXPECTEDLY AND HURT SOMEONE.
WHEN I DRIVE HIGHWAYS THAT CURVE MY TRACTION CONTROL TURNS ON A NEARLY CAUSES ME TO WRECK! IT'S TERRIFYING AND IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL IT CAUSES AN ACCIDENT.
STEERING RACK IS LEAKING AND THIS IS A DANGER TO PEOPLE A SERIOUS DANGER. PEOPLE WITH VANS USUALLY HAVE CHILDREN AND I AM READING OF ALL THESE COMPLAINTS WITH THE STEERING TACK LEAK. TOYOTA IS BEING ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS. WE AS CONSUMERS NEED TO VOICE MORE BECAUSE THE MORE WE SPEAK AND VOICE OUR CONCERNS FOR OUR LIVES THE LESS COSTS EFFECTIVE IT WOULD BE FOR THEM TO IGNORE US. REMEMBER THEY DO NOT CARE ABOUT WHO DIES FROM THEIR LACK OF CONCERN IT IS ABOUT HOW MUCH THEY MAKE AND I WANT A RECALL FOR THIS DEFECT!!!
LEFT HAND POWER DOOR HAS OPENED AND AT A DIFFERENT TIME CLOSED WITHOUT ANY ACTION BY US.. BOTH TIMES THE VEHICLE WAS NOT MOVING! REASON IS UNKNOWN. *TR
STARTED VEHICLE 3 DAYS AGO AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE AIRBAG LIGHT CAME ON AND IT KEEPS BLINKING OFF AND ON AND NEVER SHUTS OFF. VAN HAS 118,289 MILES. NEVER A PROBLEM BEFORE NOW.
THE REAR PASSENGER AUTOMATIC SLIDING DOOR WILL NOT WORK. IT WILL NOT WORK IN MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC MODE.
SLIDING DOORS OPEN WHILE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION. HATCH BACK DOESN'T OPEN UP BY ELECTRICALLY. HEATING SYSTEM STAYS ON EVEN WHEN TURNED OFF.STEREO TURNS OF WHEN THE HEATER HEATS UP TO LONG.MY SON WAS IN SIDE WERE THE DOOR OPENED UP WHILE WE WERE DRIVING ON A MAIN RD.MY DAUGHTER WAS SITTING ON OPPOSITE SIDE AND SLIDING DOOR POPPED OPEN WHILE ON A MAIN RD.SIDE DOOR STARTED CLOSING WHILE GETTING GROCERIES OUT CAUSING BRUSING TO MY GIRLFRIEND.HATCH DOESN'T WORK. ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS.
CURRENTLY THERE IS A RECALL OUT FOR THE SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID ASSEMBLY IN CERTAIN TOYOTA SIENNA VAN MODELS FROM 2004-2005 AND 2007 TO 2009. I OWN A 2005 SIENNA LE AND HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH MY SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID.
