THE WHEELS ON THE DRIVER SIDE SLIDING DOOR BROKE CAUSING IT TO STOP WORKING AND SHATTERING THE BACK WINDOW OF MY VAN. MY CHILD WAS SITTING BY THE WINDOW THAT SHATTERED. WE WERE VERY LUCKY SHE WAS NOT INJURED BY THE GLASS. *TR
THE WELD AT THE TOP OF THE HINGE ON THE FUEL FILLER DOOR HAS BROKEN, SO THE DOOR WILL NOT CLOSE. THIS PREVENTS OPENING THE SLIDING DOOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. I HAVE CHILDREN AND WOULD NEED THE ABILITY TO EVACUATE PASSENGERS QUICKLY AND EASILY IN THE EVENT OF AN EMERGENCY. ONE OF MY PASSENGERS IS RESTRAINED IN A CAR SEAT THAT I NEED TO ACTIVATE IN ORDER TO REMOVE THE CHILD FROM THE CAR. THE DOOR CANNOT BE OPENED MORE THAN A FEW INCHES WITH THE BROKEN FUEL FILLER DOOR AS AN OBSTRUCTION, SO IT CREATES A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
CAR STARTED ROLLING BACK AND GEAR SHIFTED TO REVERSE WHEN IT WAS ON DRIVE GEAR. IT SHIFTED TO GEARS AUTOMATICALLY WITHOUT CHANGING GEARS. WHEN WENT TO DEALER, THEY SAID ITS TRANSMISSION IS FAILED AT 55 K MILES. IT WAS IN WARRANTY AND THEY CHANGED TRANSMISSION BUT WHEN ASKED THEY DIDN'T GIVE ME MUCH DETAILED INFORMATION. MY 1 WORK DAY WAS SPOILED AND INCONVENIENCE. *TR
ON NOV 2, 2014 AT AROUND 5:40AM, AFTER TURNING FROM 7TH AVENUE TO W50TH ST FOR ABOUT 200FT AT MANHATTAN, THE POWER STEERING WAS SUDDENLY DEAD. THE POWER STEERING FAULT INDICATING LIGHT WAS ON. WHEN TRYING MOVE THE VEHICLE TO A PARK/STAND, THE VEHICLE STEERING WAS VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 11V560000 (WHEELS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN STRAPPED THE SPARE TIRE TO THE TRUNK OF THE VEHICLE AS A TEMPORARY REMEDY. THE PART NEEDED TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
I WAS BACKING OUT OF MY DRIVEWAY AND HEARD A CLUNK. THE AREA WAS CLEAR SO I DIDN'T HIT ANYTHING. LOST POWER STEERING AND POWER BRAKES. THE INFORMATION SCREEN FLASHED MESSAGES TO CHECK BRAKES AND CONTACT DEALER. I DROVE BACK INTO DRIVEWAY WITH DIFFICULT STEERING AND SLOW ENOUGH TO NOT NEED BRAKES. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE. I SHUT IT OFF THINKING SOMETHING NEEDED TO RESET. IT WOULD NOT START AGAIN. HAT IT TOWED TO DEALER. THEY REPLACED A FUSE ($445.00 + TOWING). MY CONCERN IS THAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED WHILE IN TRAFFIC AT A HIGHER RATE OF SPEED, IT WOULD BE DIFFICULT TO STEER OR STOP. THE DEALER STATED THEY HAD NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE WHERE THE ENGINE WOULD CONTINUE TO RUN AND THE FUSE IS USUALLY BLOWN IF SOMEONE REVERSES POLARITY DURING A JUMP START. I HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE FOR OVER 1 YEAR AND HAVE NEVER JUMP STARTED IT. *TR
MY CAR WAS RECALLED ABOUT TWO MONTHS AGO FOR A TEMPORARY REPAIR OF THE CONNECTOR TO HOLD THE SPARE TIRE. THIS RESULTED IN THE SPARE TIRE BEING PLACED IN THE BACK-SEAT AREA OF THE VAN. THIS PREVENTS ME FROM USING THE FOLD DOWN FEATURE AND FULL STORAGE AREA. ON OCTOBER 20, 2014, I CALLED THEIR 888-270-9371 NUMBER TO SEE HOW MUCH LONGER BEFORE A PERMANENT FIX WOULD BE COMPLETED. I RECEIVED A VAGUE ANSWER THAT IT SHOULD BE DONE IN NOVEMBER 2014. I STILL WAIT A SOLUTION, AND BELIEVE THAT THIS ISSUE SHOULD HAVE BEEN LONG AGO RESOLVED. UPDATED 09/23/15.*JB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SLIDING DOOR CABLE AND THE DOOR MOTOR FAILED. AS A RESULT, THE DOOR OPEN WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED INTERMITTENTLY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO STATED THAT THE DOOR CABLE AND THE MOTOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 65,000.
WHILE DRIVING THE CAR, THE STEERING CAUTION LIGHT CAME ON AND THE STEERING WHEEL COMPLETELY LOCKED CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO PULL TO THE LEFT. BRAKES WHERE APPLIED TO SLOW DOWN VEHICLE. VEHICLE SHOWS NO RECALL FOR THIS AND TOYOTA HAS BEEN CONTACTED A FEW TIMES AND FEELS THIS IS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. CAR HAS BEEN PLACED ON COMPUTER AND SHOWS MANY FAULTY CODES, BUT THEY CANNOT FIGURE OUT THE PROBLEM, SINCE THIS PROBLEM IS INTERMITTENT. IT CONTINUES TO HAPPEN MORE OFTEN. TOYOTA WILL FIX ELECTRICAL STEERING AT OUR COST, BUT NOT SURE IF THAT IS, IN FACT, THE ISSUE. SEEMS LIKE A COSTLY FIX TO NOT KNOW FOR SURE AND ALSO A SAFETY ISSUE THAT WOULD NOT BE CAUSED BY WEAR AND TEAR, RATHER BY A FAULTY ELECTRICAL PROBLEM. WE DRIVE OUR CHILDREN AROUND IN THIS CAR AND FEAR THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE. TOYOTA STATES THAT THEY HAVE NOT SEEN THIS ISSUE BEFORE. VERY SCARY AND WE FOLLOWED WHAT THE USER MANUAL STATES WHEN THIS SAFETY INDICATOR COMES ON TO CALL TOYOTA AND STOP DRIVING TO PREVENT A FATALITY. PLEASE HELP....2 MONTHS LATER AND NO SOLUTION. *TR
TOYOTA HAD A RECALL ON IT'S SPARE TIRE CABLE AND REMOVED MY SPARE TIRE TO THE REAR INSIDE OF MY AUTO. I WAS TOLD A FIX WOULD BE MADE TO REPLACE THE TIRE CABLE AND THE SPARE TIRE WOULD BE PLACED BACK UNDER THE CAR. IT HAS BEEN ALMOST A YEAR AND NO FIX HAS BEEN MADE. I CALLED MY DEALER SEVERAL TIMES AND THEY TELL ME NO FIX IS AVAILABLE. WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO GET THIS FIX DONE? I NEED THE SPACE THE SPARE TIRE IS TAKING. I PURCHASED MY CAR IN WIS. AND LIVE THERE 6 MONTHS OUT OF THE YEAR.
OUR 2011 SIENNA HAD A MALFUNCTIONING REAR PASSENGER DOOR. RUSTED DOOR LATCHES WERE IDENTIFIED AS THE PROBLEM. HOW DOES A THREE YEAR OLD VEHICLE HAVE RUSTED LATCHES? THE REPAIR COST OVER $1200. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AT DIELHL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP BLAMED THE PROBLEM ON WEATHER. WRONG PARTS WERE INITIALLY DELIVERED, THE CORRECT PARTS HAD TO BE SENT IN FROM CA, RESULTING IN A THREE DAY REPAIR JOB. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE REP., [XXX], DID NOT EVEN APOLOGIZE FOR THE DELAY AND INCONVENIENCE. WHEN I ATTEMPTED TO CALL TOYOTA DIRECTLY TO PASS ALONG MY COMPLAINT, I WAS ??LOST?? IN THEIR AUTOMATED PHONE ANSWERING SYSTEM. I THEN CONTACTED THEM VIA EMAIL, I AM STILL WAITING FOR A RESPONSE. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED LATCHES AND TOLD US THAT ALL OF THE DOOR LATCHES ON THE VEHICLE WERE LUBED. WE CHECKED THE OTHER DOOR LATCHES, AND FOUND THEY WERE NOT ??LUBED??. THIS VEHICLE??S MANUFACTURE QUALITY CERTAINLY HAS NOT MET OUR EXPECTATIONS OR THE TOYOTA REPUTATION WE THOUGHT WE HAD PURCHASED. NOT ONLY IS THE PRODUCT PERFORMANCE POOR, SO IS THE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND SUPPORT. THIS PROBLEM NOT ONLY IS A MANUFACTURING ISSUE, BUT COULD POSE TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IF EARLY DOOR LATCH DETERIORATION RESULTS IN DEFECTIVE LOCKING AN LATCHING OF REAR PASSENGER DOORS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,505. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.

AFTER DRIVING FOR 15 MINUTES, THE VEHICLE STALLED AND SMOKE WAS COMING OUT OF THE HOOD. THE ENGINE WAS ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE INCIDENT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,000.
THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON THE CHAIN AND BOLT ASSEMBLY THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE UNDER THE CHASSIS BECAUSE THE PARTS RUST AND CAN BREAK DROPPING THE TIRE IN THE ROAD AND LEADING TO AN ACCIDENT. THEIR RESPONSE IS TO PUT THE TIRE INSIDE THE CAR TAKING UP SIGNIFICANT SPACE AND LIMITING SPACE. IT IS ALMOST A YEAR AND THEY STILL HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THEY WILL HAVE REPLACEMENTS. IT SEEMS PRETTY CLEAR THAT THEY AREN'T TRYING!! IS THERE ANY TIME LIMIT FOR THIS REMEDY? *TR
IN JULY OF 2011 TOYOTA SENT A NOTICE OF RECALL ON THE 2WD SIENNA VANS FOR A PROBLEM OF EXCESSIVE CORROSION OF THE SPARE TIRE CARRIER. THEY SAID THE REMEDY WAS UNDER DEVELOPMENT. IT IS NOW DECEMBER AND EVERY TIME I CALL TOYOTA THEY SAY THEY HAVE NOT YET DEVELOPED A REMEDY AND ARE WORDING ON IT. HEIR TEMPORARY SOLUTION WAS TO REMOVE THE SPARE TIRE AND PUT IT IN THE BACK OF THE VAN. TO ME A REASONABLE TIME FOR THIS TO BE RESOLVED WOULD BE 1-2 MONTHS, IT IS NOW GOING ON 5 MONTHS AND NO NOTICE OF RESOLUTION. I FEEL THAT MYSELF AND EVERYONE ELSE EFFECTED BY THIS RECALL NOTICE HAVE WAITED FAR TO LONG. *TR

I STOPPED FOR GAS AND WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE FUEL FILLER DOOR. BECAUSE OF THE FUEL FILLER DOOR FAILURE, I WAS NOT ABLE TO OPEN THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR. I DROVE THE VEHICLE HOME AND UPON FURTHER INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THE TOP FUEL FILLER DOOR HINGE WAS BROKEN FREE. THE BROKEN HINGE ALLOWED THE PASSENGER DOOR ACTIVATION SWITCH LOCATED BEHIND THE FUEL FILLER DOOR TO POP OUT WHICH DE-ACTIVATED THE PASSENGER DOOR OPERATION. IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT, THE DRIVER SIDE PASSENGER DOOR WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE OPENED. *JS

2011 TOYOTA SIENNA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO TIRE SUPPORT CABLE MECHANISM CORROSION RECALL NOTICE. *SMD THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONSUMER, THERE WAS NO PERMANENT SOLUTION. THE CONSUMER WAS GIVEN THE OPTION OF PLACING THE SPARE TIRE INSIDE THE VEHICLE OR SIGNING A WAIVER RELEASING TOYOTA OF ANY LIABILITY SHOULD THE SPARE TIRE FALL OFF. THE CONSUMER OPTED TO HAVE THE SPARE TIRE PLACED INSIDE THE VEHICLE. *JB
WHEN DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WE HEARD A LOUD NOISE. WE PULLED OVER TO FIND OUR SUN/MOON ROOF HAD BLOWN OUT. WE IMMEDIATELY CONTACTED OUR INSURANCE COMPANY AND TAPED OVER THE HOLE TO AVOID ANY GLASS BLOWING OUT ONTO OTHER DRIVERS AND INSIDE THE VEHICLE. WHEN WE TOOK IT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THEY SAID THEY CHECKED FOR OTHER COMPLAINTS BUT SAID THEY HAD NONE. THIS WAS THE SUMMER OF 2014. EVEN THOUGH THE DEALERSHIP CLAIMED THERE WERE NO ISSUES, WE REPORTED THE PROBLEM TO TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND AFTER A COUPLE OF MESSAGES AND COPIES OF PICTURES THEY DECIDED IT WAS NOT A DEFECT SO WE WERE NOT GOING TO BE REIMBURSED. THE EXPENSE WAS A LITTLE OF $1000 WHICH WE WERE OUT OF POCKET ON AS WE HAD A $1000 DEDUCTIBLE. IN LIGHT OF MORE RECENT NEWS ABOUT THIS BEING A PROBLEM IN MANY VEHICLES INCLUDING TOYOTA VEHICLES WE WANTED TO REPORT IT AS A SAFETY ISSUE. HAD WE NOT HAD THE COVER CLOSED ON THE INSIDE, GLASS WOULD HAVE COME IN ON US. WE WERE JUST THANKFUL THAT NO ONE ON THE HIGHWAY WAS HURT WITH THE WINDOW BLEW OUT. WE BELIEVE THIS ITEM SHOULD BE REVIEWED FOR POSSIBLE RECALL AND REIMBURSEMENT TO OWNERS OF VEHICLES THAT HAVE SUN/MOON ROOFS MADE BY THE MANUFACTURER. I AM NO LONGER SURE I HAVE PICTURES AS THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN TAKEN ON AN OLD PHONE
I WAS TRAVELING IN AN AREA SURROUNDED BY CONSTRUCTION BARRELS TRYING TO NAVIGATE MY TURN. THE PERSON IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED SUDDENLY, AND I HIT HIM IN THE REAR. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED ALMOST $9000 WORTH OF DAMAGE, HOWEVER WAS NOT TOTALED. THE AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. WE ASKED TOYOTA FOR AN EXPLANATION, AND THEY FINALLY SENT A THIRD PARTY TO INVESTIGATE. WE WERE SENT THE DOWNLOAD OF THE CRASH DATA RECORDER, BUT NO EXPLANATION OF WHAT IT MEANT, AND TOYOTA DETERMINED THAT THE AIRBAG WAS NOT FAULTY, EVEN THOUGH THE CRASH DATA RECORDER SHOWS I HIT SOMEONE FRONT-TO-REAR TRAVELING 38 MILES PER HOUR. AFTER WAITING 3 MONTHS ON TOYOTA, WE FINALLY GAVE UP AND ARE HAVING THE VEHICLE REPAIRED. I HAVE A CHRONIC NECK CONDITION WHICH WAS NOT CAUSED BY THE ACCIDENT BUT WAS GREATLY AGGRAVATED AND MADE MORE PAINFUL FROM THE ACCIDENT. WE HAVE ASKED TOYOTA FOR AN EXPLANATION OF THE DATA FROM THE RECORDER, BUT HAVE NOT BEEN PROVIDED ONE, ONLY SENT A LETTER STATING TOYOTA WAS NOT AT FAULT AND THAT INJURIES SUCH AS MINE AREN'T PROVEN TO BE PREVENTED BY THE AIRBAG. ..UPDATED 11/03/14 *BF UPDATED 4/28/2015 *JS *TR

SINCE MAY 2014 I HAVE RECEIVED A NOTICE ON RECALL ABOUT MY SIENNA 2011 VIN 5TDKK3DC5BS[XXX] FOR THE SPARE WHEEL E1S, NHTSA REF ID 14V273 AND SINCE THAT TIME WE HAVE HEARD NOTHING FROM TOYOTA AS OWNERS FOR THE REMEDIATION OF THIS SAFETY RECALL ( THIS APPLIES TO CANADIAN VEHICLES AS WELL). ALL WHAT THEY SAY IS TO PUT THE SPARE WHEEL IN THE TRUNK AS A TEMPORARY SOLUTION FOR NOW, AND THIS ALSO IS NOT A SAFE SOLUTION CONSIDERING THIS WHEEL AMONG PASSENGERS AND WHAT IT COULD DO IN CASE OF IMPACT. AFTER CONTACTING BOTH THE DEALER AND THE MANUFACTURER, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT A REMEDY TO REPAIR THE DEFECT HAD NOT YET BEEN DEVELOPED AND NO ESTIMATED TIME TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED COULD BE PROVIDED.
THE AIR CONDITIONER HOUSING IS LEAKING WATER ONTO SAFETY-CRITICAL PARTS. THIS HOUSING IS MADE OF PLASTIC PARTS THAT ARE GLUED TOGETHER. WATER IS CONDENSED DURING THE COOLING CYCLE, AND IT THEN COLLECTS AT THE BOTTOM AND EXITS THE VEHICLE THROUGH A RUBBER HOSE. THE GLUE HOLDING THE HOUSING TOGETHER HAS FAILED. WATER IS LEAKING FROM THE HOUSING AND RUNNING ONTO THE COMPUTER MODULE THAT DEPLOYS THE AIRBAGS. I HAVE BEEN ADVISED BY THE DEALER THAT IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITH A WET MODULE BECAUSE THE AIRBAGS CAN DEPLOY WHILE MOVING, OR THAT THEY MIGHT NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A COLLISION. AN IDENTICAL PROBLEM AFFECTS TOYOTA MODELS CAMRY, AVALON, AND VENZA. I HAVE DISCUSSED THE ISSUE WITH TOYOTA, AND THEY REFUSE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THE CIRCUMSTANCES OF THE RECALL ON CAMRY, AVALON, AND VENZA APPEAR TO BE IDENTICAL TO THE CIRCUMSTANCES I HAVE EXPERIENCED, YET THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE SIENNA. OUR TOYOTA HAS ONLY 34,900 MILES ON IT. ON 4/13/2014 WHILE TRYING TO FILL AIR IN THE REAR PASSENGER TIRE, THE STEM VALVE BROKE OFF, LITERALLY IN TWO PIECES. THAT WAS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AND EASILY COULD HAVE HAPPENED WHILE DRIVING SINCE I DIDN'T EXERT ANY PRESSURE WHILE ATTACHING THE AIR HOSE TO IT. I CALLED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND SPOKE TO [XXX] WHO SAID THAT SINCE THERE US NO RECALL ON IT, ITS NOT THEIR PROBLEM. SO IT SEEMS, UNLESS A FEW PEOPLE DIE, THEY WILL NOT MOVE. WITHIN ONE WEEK OF PURCHASE, THE DRIVER SIDE, POWER ASSIST SLIDING DOOR FAILED TO OPEN COMPLETELY. AFTER INITIALLY OPENING SIX INCHES IT WOULD ONLY MOVE FOUR INCHES IN EITHER DIRECTION BY PULLING THE EXTERIOR HANDLE. ONLY WITH MULTIPLE PULLS/JERKS COULD THE DOOR BE FULLY OPENED OR CLOSED. THIS PROBLEM WOULD MANIFEST UNPREDICTABLY, MOST OFTEN WITH THE DRIVER SIDE POWER DOOR, BUT ONCE WITH THE PASSENGER SIDE. OTHERWISE THE DOORS FUNCTIONED PROPERLY ABOUT EIGHTY PERCENT OF THE TIME. THIS FAILURE APPEARS TO INVOLVE A SAFETY FEATURE WHICH PREVENTS THE DOOR FROM ADVANCING WHEN SUFFICIENT RESISTANCE IS MET. IN ALL CASES OF FAILURE NO MECHANISM FOR RESISTANCE WAS FOUND. MY FEAR IS THAT THE SAFETY FEATURE MAY ALSO FAIL WHEN IT NEEDS TO PERFORM PROPERLY, TO PREVENT AN ARM OR LEG FROM BEING CRUSHED. *TT

TMS-NTC-13142 I HAVE A 2011 TOYOTA SIENNA SE WITH 19" RIMS AND TIRES WHICH FAILED TO MEET THE NHTSA TEST FOR TIRE LOADING AND AS A RESULT TOYOTA SENT OUT A RECALL NOTICE TO REPLACE THE TIRES WITH EXTRA LOAD TIRES. HOWEVER, THEY ARE NOT HONORING THEIR REQUIREMENT BECAUSE THEY ARE REQUIRING THE TOW HITCH BE A OEM PRODUCT WHICH DOES NOT EXIST. THEY SOLD THESE VANS WITH A TOW PACKAGE BUT NOT WITH A TOW HITCH. TOYOTA DOES NOT SELL OEM TOW HITCHES INTERESTINGLY ENOUGH. AS A RESULT, CUSTOMERS HAVE HAD TO PURCHASE A AFTER MARKET TOW HITCH. NOW THAT THE WEIGHT OF THE VEHICLE EXCEEDS THE TIRE RATINGS AND THEY ARE REQUIRED TO REPLACE THE WHEELS, TOYOTA IS REQUIRING THEIR DEALERSHIPS TO ONLY REPLACE WHEELS IF THE VAN IS EQUIPPED WITH AN OEM TOW HITCH WHICH AGAIN DOES NOT EXIST.
