TL* THE CONTACT'S DAUGHTER OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHECK ENGINE INDICATOR WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AUTO ZONE WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE O2 SENSOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT'S FRIEND WAS REPAIRING THE VEHICLE AND NOTICED RUST ON THE BOTTOM OF THE FRAME. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT'S FRIEND WAS UNABLE TO TIGHTEN THE SENSOR COMPLETELY, WHICH CAUSED FUMES TO ENTER THE CABIN OF THE VEHICLE WHEN DRIVING. THE CONTACT CALLED LOU FUSZ TOYOTA (LOCATED AT 10725 MANCHESTER RD, KIRKWOOD, MO 63122, (314) 966-5404). THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 136,000.
DT: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 55 MPH HEARD A LOUD EXPLODING SOUND COMING FROM THE ENGINE. THE VEHICLE STALLED, BUT HE WAS ABLE TO PULL OFF THE ROAD. THE HOOD WAS OPENED TO CHECK THE ENGINE. AND WHEN THE OIL FILTER WAS REMOVED, THE CONTACT DISCOVERED A HOLE IN THE SIDE OF THE ENGINE IN THE SIZE OF A QUARTER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED, WHO ADVISED THE CONTACT TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE DEALER WOULD NOT INSPECT THE VEHICLE WITHOUT PAYMENT FIRST BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN REPAIRED DUE TO THE EXCESSIVE COST. BEFORE THIS INCIDENT THERE WERE NO PROBLEMS WITH THE ENGINE. *AK
CRANK CASE PULLEY CRACKED AND THE BOLT THAT HOLDS IT TO THE CRANKCASE SNAPPED INSIDE THE CRANKCASE--THIS IS 6 WEEKS AFTER TRANSFER CASE WAS LEAKING, AND HAVE ALSO HAD THE REAR AXLE SEAL REPLACED 3 TIMES--THIS IS ALL IN A 2 1/2 YEAR PERIOD. *AK
ENGINE SEIZURE AT 45MPH WITHOUT WARNING! I CHANGED THE OIL EVERY 3000 MILES. I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TACOMA 4X4 WITH THE V-6 ENGINE IN QUESTION! THE TRUCK HAD 80,000 HIGH WAY MILES ON IT WHEN THE ENGINE SIEZED WITHOUT ANY WARNING! TOYOTA MORTOR CORP. SAID SORRY WE CANT HELP YOU. IT COST ME $5000.00 DOLLARS TO HAVE THE ENGINE REPLACED, AT LEAST I AM HAPPY TO SAY ITS BACK ON THE ROAD AGAIN. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL TOYOTA OWNER FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND MY TRUCK ENGINES TYPICALY RAN WELL OVER 200,000 MILES WITHOUT ANY PROBLEMS. I AM PISSED ABOUT TOYOTA'S RESPONCE. MY NEXT 4X4 TRUCK WILL BE A CHEVY!!!!!!!!!!
AT SPEEDS ABOVE 35 MPH, AND ON DE-ACCELERATION ONLY, A LOUD SQUEALING COULD BE HEARD FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. IT ONLY MADE THE NOISE ON DE-ACCELERATION. HAD TO BRING TO THE DEALER TWICE TO GET FIXED. DEALER WAS STUMPED AND ONLY FOUND A FAULTY OXYGEN SENSOR. THAT SEEMED TO BE THE PROBLEM.
CHEMICAL REACTION OF SULFURIC ACID WITH PLATED METALS OF BRAKE CASING PRODUCED TOXIC FUMES THAT WERE INHALED OVER AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME PRODUCING SEVERE FRONTAL SINUS PAIN, CONGESTION, BLEEDING, AND HEADACHE. THE BATTERY HOLD DOWN CLAMP WAS OVERTORQUE AT THE FACTORY AND RESULTED IN THE FRACTURE OF THE DELCO BATTERY CASING. SULFURIC ACID DRAINED OUT OF THE BATTERY CASING AND SPILLED ONTO THE FENDER WELL, DRIVER SIDE TIRE, BRAKE CASING,AND UNDER CARRIAGE. THE PLATED METAL SURFACES WERE DISOLOVED. I DROVE THE VEHICLE APPROX. 6 HOURS TO ST. LOUIS AND WAS FEELING ILL UPON ARRIVING.
