I WAS APPROACHING A STOPLIGHT, PRESSING ON THE BRAKE TO COME TO A STOP BEHIND THE LINE OF CARS ALREADY WAITING AT THE LIGHT. RIGHT BEFORE MY TRUCK CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP, THE ENGINE STARTING RACING. I PRESSED HARDER ON THE BRAKE, BUT THE TRUCK SURGED FORWARD 3 OR 4 FEET AND HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. WHILE I WAS PRESSING ON THE BRAKE, I COULD HEAR THE TIRES SCREECHING ON THE ROAD, BUT THERE WAS NOTHING I COULD DO TO STOP THE TRUCK BEFORE IT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT. *TR
AFTER READING A NEWS ARTICLE ABOUT UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN 2005 -07 TACOMA PICKUPS, I WAS REMINDED OF AN INCIDENT I HAD A FEW MONTHS BACK. INDEED MY TACOMA SURGED WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE. WHEN THIS HAPPENED, I REALIZED MY FOOT WAS ON BOTH THE BRAKE AND THE ACCELERATOR. I HAD TO PICK UP MY FOOT AND RE-APPLY THE BRAKE. THERE WAS NO MALFUNCTION ON THE CAR'S PART, BUT THE PEDALS ARE POSITIONED TOO CLOSE, AND AT THE SAME DISTANCE FROM THE FLOORBOARD, WHICH MAKES IT MUCH TOO EASY TO PRESS THEM AT THE SAME TIME. THIS SHOULD INDEED BE REMINDED, FOR IT IS A REAL PROBLEM. IT IS EASY A THE DRIVER TO ASSUME THAT THEY ARE ONLY PRESSING THE BRAKE BECAUSE THE BRAKE PEDAL REQUIRES MORE PRESSURE THAN THE ACCELERATOR. I COULD HARDLY FEEL THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL UNDER THE RIGHT SIDE OF MY FOOT WHILE I PRESSED ON THE BRAKE, BUT I WAS DEPRESSING BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. *TR
WHEN I'M ON THE HIGHWAY AND I'LL GO 70 MPH ON MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA XRUNNER, I'LL GET THIS NOISE LIKE A WHISTLE, IT GETS WORSE AS I GO FASTER. *TR
TWO YEARS AFTER THE PURCHASE OF THIS TRUCK NEW IN DECEMBER OF 2004, I STARTED TO NOTICE RUST ON THE FRAME. NOW HAVING KEPT THE TRUCK GARAGED AT ALL TIMES AND WITH SLIGHTLY OVER 31,000 MILES ON IT THE FRAME IS GETTING VERY RUSTY. *TR
MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA 4DR 2X4 IS EXPERIENCING THE LURCHING ISSUE WHEN A/C IS RUNNING AT A STOP LIGHT. ALTHOUGH IT HAS NOT CAUSED ANY ACCIDENTS THUS FAR, I'VE COME CLOSE IN MANY OCCASIONS AND NERVOUS AT LETTING MY WIFE DRIVE THE VEHICLE. NOW THAT I'VE JUST HAD A CHILD, I'M EVEN MORE INTERESTED IN GETTING THIS ISSUE FIXED. THIS ISSUE OCCURS REPEATEDLY WHEN A/C IS RUNNING. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING 25 MPH, THE AIR BAG INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND REMAINED LIT. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 06V096000 (AIR BAGS). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE AIR BAG SWITCH NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT THE AIR BAG COULD DEPLOY AT ANYTIME IF A CRASH OCCURRED OR FOR NO REASON AT ALL. THERE WAS ALSO THE POSSIBILITY THAT THE AIR BAGS WOULD NOT DEPLOY AT ALL. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 71,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,600. UPDATED 3/25/08 *CN
I WAS DRIVING ON A NARROW MOUNTAIN ROAD WHEN I ACCELERATED PAST A VEHICLE IN THE SLOW LANE. WHEN I LET OFF THE GAS IT WAS STUCK TO THE FLOOR. I TOOK MY FOOT COMPLETELY OFF THE ACCELERATOR AND IT CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. MY CRUISE CONTROL WAS NOT ON. I HAD TO USE MY LEFT FOOT TO PRESS THE BRAKES TO THE FLOOR. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED ACCELERATING AND ONLY STOPPED AFTER I REPEATEDLY STOMPED ON THE GAS PEDAL. MY WIFE WAS WITH ME AT THE TIME AND WITNESSED IT. I JUST LEARNED ABOUT THIS PROBLEM VIA THE NEWSCAST AND HAVE NOT REPORTED IT TO TOYOTA YET. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE INDICATOR REMAINED LIT UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS TURNED OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS RELATED TO A SHORTAGE IN THE SPIRAL CABLE FOR THE AIR BAG SYSTEM. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED OF THE SAFETY RISK INVOLVED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,800 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 68,500.
I TOOK MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA IN FOR A SQUEAL IN THE WINDOW, UNDER WARRANTY. SUN TOYOTA TOLD ME I WOULD NEED A REGULATOR. I LEFT MY TRUCK THERE FOR FOUR HOURS, WHEN I RETURNED TO PICK IT UP, THEY INFORMED ME THAT MY CLUTCH WAS COMPLETELY WARNED OUT. I DIDN'T BRING IT IN FOR ANY KIND OF CLUTCH REPAIR, MIND THE FACT I WAS ONLY AT 26K MILES. I ASKED HOW DID THEY DETERMINED THAT. THE GUY IN THE SERVICE DEPT. SAID HE, "COULD FEEL IT WITH HIS FOOT". THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY $800.00 UP FRONT FOR THEM TO EVEN LOOK AT IT, AND THAT WOULD JUST TELL THEM IF THERE IS A PROBLEM AND IF IT WAS A WARRANTY ITEM OR IF I WORE IT OUT. I TOLD THEM THERE WAS NO WAY I COULD HAVE WORN OUT THE CLUTCH IN 26K MILES, THEY TOLD ME THAT TEENAGERS CAN WEAR A CLUTCH OUT AT 18K MILES, HOWEVER I AM NOWHERE NEAR A TEENAGER ANYMORE. SO ANYWAY, I DID NOT SHELL OUT $800.00. INSTEAD I TOOK MY TRUCK TO MY SERVICE MAN, THAT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH TOYOTA, AND TOLD HIM EVERYTHING THAT HAPPENED AT TOYOTA. HE COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I HAD BEEN TOLD. THEN PROCEEDED TO CHECK OUT THE TRUCK, PUT IT ON A LIFT, TOOK IT DOWN AND ADJUSTED THE CLUTCH, AND TOLD ME THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH YOUR CLUTCH, AND HE DIDN'T CHARGE ME ANYTHING! AFTER THAT EPISODE I CONTACTED THE BBB, I TRIED TO CONTACT TOYOTA CORP., USELESS! THE BBB COULD NOT RESOLVE THIS EITHER. THE BOTTOM LINE IS, TOYOTA THE COMPANY STINKS, THEY WILL TELL YOU LIES, TO GET MONEY OUT OF YOU. THEN WHEN YOU PROVE THEM WRONG. THEY STILL WON'T ADMIT THEY MADE A MISTAKE. I LOVE MY TRUCK AND STILL OWN IT. HOWEVER NOW I TELL EVERYONE WHAT A BAD COMPANY TOYOTA IS AND TO RESEARCH IT BEFORE THEY BUY, SO FAR I'VE TALKED THREE PEOPLE OUT OF BUYING ONE. ALMOST DAILY MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB TRUCK LURCHES FORWARD DURING DECELERATION AND ALSO AT A COMPLETE STOP. A FEW TIMES IT HAS LURCHED FORWARD A FOOT OR MORE WHILE IDLING AT A STOP SIGN OR STOP LIGHT. *JB UPDATED 10/16/07 *TR
THE FRONT MUD FLAPS ARE DEFECTIVE, THEY BREAK OFF FOR NO REASON. ONCE THEY ARE MISSING ROCKS AND DEBRIS FLY INTO VEHICLE AND BYPASSERS VEHICLES. THE FLAPS APPEAR TO BE EITHER TO CLOSE TO THE TIRE OR THE MATERIAL THEY ARE MADE WITH IS TO FLEXIBLE. *TR
LATE SHIFTING, SHUDDERING, LURCHING AT IDLE. *TR
WITHIN A YEAR OF PURCHASE, THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS BECAME SOFT AND THE TRUCK BOTTOMED OUT ON BUMPS. I TOOK IT TO A LOCAL DEALER (HADDADS, PITTSFIELD, MA) AND THEY REFUSED TO SERVICE IT CLAIMING NOTHING WAS WRONG. I LATER TOOK IT TO A SPRINGFIELD DEALERSHIP AND RECEIVED THE SAME ANSWER. I THEN TOOK IT TO SUPERIOR SPRING IN PITTSFIELD. THEY FOUND BOTH SPRINGS WERE BROKEN AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY REFUSED TO HONOR THE WARRANTY, CLAIMING I HAD OVER LOADED THE TRUCK. I HAD NOT EVER CARRIED MORE THAN A FEW HUNDRED LBS IN THE BED OF THIS 1/2 TON TRUCK. I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK SINCE NEW AND BEEN THE SOLE OPERATOR. A FEW WEEKS AGO THE STEERING BECAME STICKY. MY MECHANIC REPLACED THE STEERING SHAFT AT A COST OF $400. HE STATED THAT TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THE VEHICLE FOR THIS BECAUSE HE SEES THIS PART FAIL OFTEN DUE TO POOR CONSTRUCTION. ALSO, THE FRAME ON THIS TRUCK HAS SIGNIFICANT RUST ALREADY AND DOES NOT LOOK LIKE IT WILL OUTLAST THE BODY AND DRIVE TRAIN. I'M NOT PLEASED. *TR
MUD GUARDS ARE BREAKING OFF FOR NO REASON, HAS TO BE POOR DESIGN OR DEFECT. *TR
ROUNTREE MOORE TOYOTA DEALER IN LAKE CITY FLORIDA WAS UNABLE TO FIX RECALL SSC 501. SERVICE DEPARTMENT PERSONNEL WERE UNCOOPERATIVE AND DID NOT WANT TO DO THIS WORK. *AK
MAY 30, I WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE AT KIEWIT MIDDLE SCHOOL WITH MY TACOMA. WHILE I WAS APPROXIMATELY 5-10 FEET FROM THE CAR IN FRONT THE ENGINE BEGIN RACING. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE ACCELERATOR, IT WAS FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE. THE ENGINE CONTINUED REVVING AND THE BRAKES FINAL GAVE AND I HIT THE CAR AHEAD. AS IT IS I DAMAGED THE FRONT OF MY TACOMA, AS WELL AS THE REAR OF CAR AHEAD OF ME. I AM SURE IF THERE WERE NOT A VEHICLE AHEAD AT SUCH A CLOSE DISTANCE GREAT DAMAGE AND INJURY WOULD HAVE BEEN INCURRED. I DO NOT FEEL THAT CURRENTLY THE VEHICLE IS SAFE TO DRIVE, I CONTACTED TOYOTA, NATIONAL -- THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS OK AND TO TAKE IT HOME. I FELT SO STRONGLY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT SAFE THAT I IMMEDIATELY TRADED IT IN FOR A NISSAN -- IF YOU NEED MORE INFORMATION OF WOULD LIKE TO SPEAK WITH OTHERS THAT SAW WHAT HAPPENED PLEASE LET ME KNOW. I HAVE ALSO KEPT ALL RECEIPTS AND DOCUMENTATION FROM TOYOTA. BTW -- ACCORDING TO TOYOTA -- YOU GUYS DON'T EXIST. -- I STUMBLED UPON YOUR INFORMATION IN THE BACK OF MY NEW NISSAN'S OWNER MANUAL.
THIS IS FOR THE 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN COMING TO A STOP THAT THE TRUCK LOUNGES FORWARD. EVEN WITH MY FOOT COMPLETELY ON THE BRAKE THE TRUCK STILL WILL PULL FORWARD. I HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN SO MANY TIMES, ONE TIME STOPPING FOR A PEDESTRIAN CROSSING IN FRONT OF ME AND THE TRUCK TRYING TO PULL FORWARD. I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY JUST TOLD ME IT WA S NORMAL OR THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM.*AK
TOYOTA TACOMA 2005 WINDSHIELD HAD PROBLEMS WITH BUZZING NOISE, TOYOTA REPLACE IT A COUPLE TIMES DUE TO IMPROPER INSTALLATION OF WINDSHIELD SUBLET. BUZZING NOISE IS MINIMAL AND RARELY HAPPENS BUT NOW SEALANT WAS NOT SECURE AND DURING RAIN CAUSE WATER DAMAGE TO UNDERSIDE OF CARPET. MY CONCERN IS MOLD FROM THE WATER DAMAGE. *TR
TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD WHEN AT A STOP SIGN. FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, YET TRUCK MOVED FORWARD AN INCH OR TWO. HAPPENS REGULARLY, 4-5 TIMES A WEEK. LAST TIME WAS ON SEP 10TH, 2007. *TR
THE PAINT ON MY VEHICLE IS HIGHLY VULNERABLE TO CHIPPING AND PEELING. THE BASE SEEMS VERY THIN AND THERE ARE HUNDREDS OF CHIPS IN THE PAINT, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO RUST. IT SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM. I LIVE IN THE MIDWEST AND WE DON'T USE SAND WHEN IT SNOWS, SO IT IS NOT ROAD CONDITIONS, JUST EVERYDAY DRIVING THAT IS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK THE VEHICLE IN REVERSE, THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXTREME PRESSURE TO THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. HE THEN DEPRESSED THE BRAKE PEDAL, BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO STOP AND CONTINUED TO MOVE IN REVERSE. THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A PARKED VEHICLE. A PASSENGER WAS INJURED. THE AMBULANCE WAS NOT CALLED TO THE SCENE AND THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. THE INSURANCE COMPANY HAD THE VEHICLE REPAIRED AND A DIAGNOSTIC WAS PERFORMED. AT THIS TIME, THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE IS STILL UNKNOWN. THE SPEED WAS UNKNOWN AS WELL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 46,000.
MY WIFE TOOK OUR 05 TACOMA IN TO HAVE A WINDSHIELD REPLACED THAT SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THEY LOOKED AT THE CRACKS AND SAID IT WAS CAUSED BY A ROCK FROM THE OUTSIDE, I MIGHT HAVE AGREED HAD MY WIFE NOT WATCHED MY YOUNGEST SON PRESS HIS THUMB AGAINST THE INSIDE OF THE WINDSHIELD CAUSING THE GLASS TO CRACK. AFTER LOOKING UP PROBLEMS WITH TOYOTA'S I CAME ACROSS SEVERAL SITES STATING THAT IN 03,04 AND 05 TOYOTA MADE THE WINDSHIELDS THINNER AND IN TURN MADE THEM MORE BRITTLE. *TR
WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP FOR SEVERAL SECONDS TO A MINUTE WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN DRIVE , E.G. AT A STOP LIGHT, THE VEHICLE WILL SURGE FORWARD AS IF THE GAS PEDAL HAS BEEN MOMENTARILY DEPRESSED.*AK
I AM CURRENTLY DRIVING A 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA X RUNNER. THERE ARE CRACKS ACROSS THE TREADS OF AT LEAST TWO OF THE FOUR TIRES ON THE TRUCK (BRIDGESTONE POTENZA TIRES). I WENT TO A BRIDGESTONE SHOP AND THEY TOLD ME TO DRIVE ACROSS THE STREET AND TALK TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TOLD ME THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING A VEHICLE WITH CRACKS ACROSS THE ENTIRE TREAD FACE. I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WITH THIS PROBLEM, NEARLY ALL OF THE X RUNNER DRIVERS HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM; SOME OF WHICH GET THE TIRES REPLACED OR GET THE RUN-AROUND LIKE MYSELF. PLEASE HELP ME. 1) 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA "LURCH" WHILE SLOWING OR STOPPED. I HAVE NOTICED IT WITH OR WITHOUT A/C OR DEFROST ON. GENERALLY, I COME TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND A FEW SECONDS LATER, IT FEELS AS THOUGH THE VEHICLE LURCHES FORWARD SLIGHTLY. 2) WHILE IT HAS NOT CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, IT IS SOMEWHAT DISCONCERTING. 3) NO REPAIRS OR REPLACEMENT PARTS HAVE BEEN EFFECTED. I'VE GUESSED IT IS A TRANSMISSION DOWNSHIFT, AND THE RESULTING INCREASED TORQUE AT THE REAR WHEELS RESULTS IN THE LURCH. THE MORE FIRMLY THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED, THE LESS NOTICEABLE THE PROBLEM. *JB
HAVE SINCE HAD 4 SITUATIONS OF "SUDDEN ACCELERATION" A VERY HORRIFYING EXPERIENCE. DATE AND APPROX MILES: 1/28/07-16,000,4/11/07-19,000-9/18/07-26,000,12/20/08-42,600. 1ST INCIDENT-STOPPED AT STOP SIGN WITH FOOT FIRMLY ON BRAKE PEDAL. TRUCK FORCEFULLY LURCHES FORWARD WITH TIRES SCREECHING. CALLED DEALERSHIP TO NOTIFY THEM. WAS SUGGESTED THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE FLOOR MAT. I SAID POSSIBLY BUT DIDN'T REALLY THINK SO. 2ND INCIDENT-VERY SIMILAR TO 1ST. 3RD INCIDENT-WHILE SLOWLY PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WITH A CURB AHEAD I SLOWLY APPLIED BRAKES TO COME TO A STOP BEFORE HITTING CURB. AS BRAKES ARE APPLIED TO STOP, THE TRUCK MAKES A LOUD REVVING SOUND AND IS VERY FORCEFULLY LURCHING FORWARD WHILE THE TIRES ARE MAKING A VERY LOUD SCREECHING SOUND. 4TH INCIDENT-WHILE STOPPED IN TRAFFIC WITH MY FOOT ALREADY FIRMLY ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WAITING FOR THE TRAFFIC TO CHANGE THE TRUCK VERY SUDDENLY LUNGES FORWARD WHILE TIRES ARE MAKING A SCREECHING SOUND. I QUICKLY SWERVED INTO THE LEFT LANE JUST MISSING THE REAR END OF THE CAR AHEAD OF ME.THANKGOD THERE WAS NO TRAFFIC COMING IN THE LEFT LANE AS I SWERVED INTO IT OR IT WOULD HAVE BEEN A MULTI CAR ACCIDENT NOT TO MENTION POSSIBLE INJURIES OR DEATH. 2ND,3RD&4TH TIME TRUCK WAS TAKEN TO DEALERSHIP. SAME OLD STORY EACH TIME,NOTHING SHOWED UP,EVERYTHING SEEMS TO BE WORKING OK, WE COULD NOT DUPLICATE IT. 1/7/09 TALKED WITH TOYOTA FIELD SPECIALIST. WAS ASKED IF I COULD DUPLICATE IT, I SAID NO. WAS TOLD IF YOU CAN'T DUPLICATE IT I GUESS WE CAN'T FIX IT. IF WE COULD DUPLICATE IT WE WOULD FIX IT. I GUESS THERE IS A 2ND PROBLEM AS WELL IF THE ONBOARD COMPUTER DOES NOT SHOW THIS PROBLEM IS OCCURING. BELIEVE ME IT IS! THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SITUATION WHICH NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED SOON BEFORE AN ACCIDENT,INJURY OR DEATH OCCURS. THIS IS A FOLLOW UP TO A PREVIOUS COMPLAINT REGARDING DIFFICULTY SHIFTING PARTICULARLY FROM 1ST TO 2ND. AFTER SENDING THREE CERTIFIED LETTERS TO TOYOTA (THE LAST SENT TO THE PRESIDENT'S OFFICE) I FINALLY, MORE THAN 6 MONTHS LATER, RECEIVED A WRITTEN RESPONSE. PERHAPS BECAUSE OF THE REASONS I CITED FOR MY FAILED MEDIATION ATTEMPT (IN PARTICULAR BEING GIVEN BAD ADVICE, WHICH, AT THE TIME, I NAIVELY ACCEPTED, BY THE TOYOTA FACTORY TRAINED SPECIALIST ON HOW TO PREPARE FOR THE MEDIATION) I WAS GRANTED A SECOND ATTEMPT AT MEDIATION. THE TRANSMISSION CONTINUES TO BEHAVE IN THE FASHION I PREVIOUSLY MENTIONED. I WAS LOADING A MOTORCYCLE INTO THE BACK OF MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA AND THE TAILGATE COLLAPSED. I HAVE OWNED THIS TRUCK FOR A YEAR AND A HALF AND THIS IS THE FIRST TIME I'VE EVER PUT ANY WEIGHT ON THE TAILGATE OF THE TRUCK. AFTER DOING SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET, IT SOUNDS LIKE THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME THING. THERE IS NO MENTION FROM TOYOTA IN THE OWNERS MANUAL OR ANY ASSOCIATED DOCUMENTS THAT THE TAILGATE IS INCAPABLE OF HANDLING A LOAD. THE WEIGHT RATING FOR THE CARGO BOX IS LISTED AT 1000 POUNDS BUT THERE IS NOTHING ON THE TAILGATE. I HAVE OWNED A FORD RANGER AND A CHEVY S-10 IN THE PAST AND NEVER HAD ANY PROBLEM LOADING A BIKE IN THE BED. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE COLLAPSED TAILGATE AVAILABLE. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE WAS SERIOUSLY INJURED IN THIS BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN POTENTIALLY FATAL IN THE BIKE HAD FALLEN ON ONE OF THE MEN LOADING THE BIKE. THE DEALER TOLD THE CONTACT THAT THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL MUST HAVE BEEN STUCK BESIDE THE FLOOR MAT BUT THE DRIVER SAW NO ENTRAPMENT DURING THE FAILURE. THE DEALER TOLD THEM THAT THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO AFTER INSPECTING THE FAILURE AND FINDING NO CAUSE. SHE HAD NOT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER TO-DATE. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 100,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 35,072.

UNDER THE MAGNUSSON-MOSS ACT, I ASKED THEM TO PROVE THAT MY AFTERMARKET PRODUCTS CAUSED THE FAILURE. THEY EXPLAINED THAT THEY COULDN'T DO THAT AND OFFERED ME ARBITRATION. BECAUSE OF THE COST OF RENTING A CAR WHILE WAITING FOR ARBITRATION, I DECIDED TO FIX THE TRUCK OUT OF MY OWN POCKET AND TAKE TOYOTA TO SMALL CLAIMS COURT. I WON MY CASE, AND TOYOTA WAS ORDERED TO PAY ME $2,900.00. 2005 TACOMA, TRD SPORT PKG, 6 SPEED MANUAL BEHIND A V6. AT ABOUT 27K THE CLUTCH PEDAL STARTED MAKING THIS HORRENDOUS SQUEAK. THE DEALER PERFORMED A TSB TO REPLACE THE CLUTCH PEDAL ASSEMBLY. SQUEAK WAS GONE FOR ABOUT 6K MILES BUT THE PEDAL STICKS. SINCE THAT FIRST REPLACEMENT OF THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY, THE DEALER GREASES IT EVERY 6-8K MILES BECAUSE THE SQUEAK KEEPS RETURNING AND THE PEDAL STILL STICKS! THEY DID REPLACE THE PEDAL ASSEMBLY A SECOND TIME HOWEVER NOW THE PEDAL FEELS LIKE IT IS GOING TO FALL OFF AND IT STILL STICKS. THE LAST STRAW WAS WHEN I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME THAT IT WAS "EXCESSIVE USE OF THE PEDAL, THE TRUCK WAS NOT MADE TO DRIVE IN TRAFFIC". WHAT THE HECK WAS IT MADE FOR?? I DRIVE THE HIGHWAY EVERYDAY TO WORK AND YES, I OCCASIONALLY GET CAUGHT IN TRAFFIC DUE TO AN ACCIDENT, BUT THAT MIGHT HAPPEN ONCE EVERY OTHER WEEK! 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA (6 SPEED MANUAL TRANSMISSION) HAS EXPERIENCED EXCESSIVE TRANSMISSION NOISE AND CLUTCH JUDDER WHEN STARTING IN FIRST GEAR SINCE THE DAY OF PURCHASE. THE TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN, AT TIMES, EXCESSIVELY DIFFICULT TO SHIFT AND THE JUDDER HAS BEEN, ON RARE OCCASIONS, EVIDENT IN SECOND GEAR. BOTH PROBLEMS HAVE BEEN INTERMITTENT SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS DELIVERED. ON THE MORNING OF JULY 28TH, THE JUDDER PROBLEM WAS PARTICULARLY BAD AND WAS EVIDENT WITH EVERY START IN FIRST GEAR AND SOMETIMES IN SECOND GEAR. IT BECAME MORE VIOLENT WITH EACH START AND AT ONE POINT, AFTER THE CLUTCH PEDAL WAS FULLY RELEASED, THERE WAS A SUDDEN SLIP OF THE CLUTCH DISC FOLLOWED BY SUDDEN FRICTION. THIS RESULTED IN LOSS OF TRACTION OF THE DRIVE WHEELS AND SUBSEQUENT TOTAL LOSS OF CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. CONTROL WAS REGAINED RELATIVELY QUICKLY BY DEPRESSING THE CLUTCH PEDAL TO REMOVE DRIVE POWER FROM THE WHEELS AND A CATASTROPHIC EVENT WAS NARROWLY AVOIDED. TOYOTA HAS ATTEMPTED REPAIR OF THIS JUDDER PROBLEM THREE TIMES INCLUDING A COMPLETE CLUTCH ASSEMBLY REPLACEMENT AT 6,500 MILES, BUT NOW CLAIMS THAT THE VEHICLE OPERATES NORMALLY. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO A DEALER SHORTLY AFTER THE INCIDENT DESCRIBED ABOVE AND THE SHOP FOREMAN SAID AGAIN, THE VEHICLE WAS OPERATING NORMALLY. HE ALSO CLAIMED THAT PER TOYOTA'S DIRECTIVE, HE IS NOT TO KEEP THE VEHICLE UNLESS HE HAS PRIOR APPROVAL FROM TOYOTA TO DO SO. *JB
I RECENTLY OPENED A CORPORATE CASE AGAINST THE TOYOTA OF STUART DEALERSHIP. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST INCIDENT THAT I HAVE HAD WITH THEM, BUT THIS IS THE MOST RECENT. ON JULY 26, 2006, I NOTICED SOME GREASE ALL INSIDE THE RIM OF MY TIRE. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK INTO THE DEALERSHIP. I TALKED TO THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT TO TRY AND EXPLAIN THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD, WE KNOW WHAT IT IS, WE WILL ORDER THE REAR SEALS AND CALL YOU WHEN THEY COME IN. NO ONE LOOKED AT MY VEHICLE!!! I WAS TOLD TO LEAVE AND I WOULD GET A PHONE CALL. ON JULY 27, 2006 AT 10:30 AM WHILE IN A LEFT HAND TURN, I APPLIED THE BRAKE LIGHTLY AT A SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH. THE TRUCK VERY QUICKLY SPUN AROUND AND BACKWARDS INTO A GUARD RAIL. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD TO BRING THE TRUCK BACK TO THEM. THEY ASSURED ME THAT BECAUSE OF THE GREASE ON THE WHEEL AND BEING MADE TO THINK THAT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE, THAT THE DEALERSHIP WOULD TAKE CARE OF THE DAMAGE TO THE VEHICLE. THIS HAPPENED, FORTUNATELY ON A ROAD WITH MINIMAL TRAFFIC, NOT ON I-95. I OFTEN THINK ABOUT WHAT COULD HAVE HAPPENED IF I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I COULD HAVE SERIOUSLY INJURED MYSELF, OR SOMEONE ELSE. I COULD HAVE HAD MY 5 YEAR OLD IN MY VEHICLE GOING TO CAMP. ANYTHING SERIOUS COULD HAVE HAPPENED. FORTUNATELY, IT DID NOT. AFTER BRINGING THE TRUCK IN AND MANY PHONE CALLS AND TRIPS TO THE DEALERSHIP, I WAS TOLD AFTER TWO WEEKS, BY THE MANAGER OF THE DEALERSHIP THAT I NEEDED TO CALL MY INSURANCE COMPANY. THIS WAS SO MY INSURANCE WOULD PAY FOR THE DAMAGES. THIS IS TOTALLY WRONG. I COULD HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED OR EVEN WORSE! IF THEY WOULD HAVE CHECKED MY VEHICLE, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN DEEMED UNFIT TO DRIVE. I AM NOT A MECHANIC. NOW THE DEALERSHIP WANTS MY $500.00 DEDUCTIBLE PAYMENT. YOU HAVE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME! I WAS ON VACATION IN MY 2005 TOYOTA TACOMA 4X4 4 DOOR IN COLORADO. WITH THE CRUISE CONTROL ON AND SET FOR 65 MPH, I STARTED UP A PASS ON I-25 APPROACHING RATON, NM FROM THE NORTH. AS WE WENT UPHILL AND THE VEHICLE LUGGED DOWN, IT SHIFT DOWN AND BEGAN RAPID ACCELERATION AND AS WE ENTERED A TURN WAS ACCELERATING THROUGH 85 MPH. MY FOOT WAS NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL AND THE FLOOR MAT WAS NOT ANYWHERE NEAR THE PEDAL. I STOOD ON THE BRAKE BUT THE ACCELERATION CONTINUED. I PUSHED THE CRUISE CONTROL BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL AND IT DISENGAGED. WE MADE IT THROUGH THE INCIDENT WITH NO LOSS OF ANYTHING BUT PERHAPS SOME OF MY HAIR. AFTER RETURNING FROM VACATION I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO LARRY MILLER TOYOTA IN PEORIA, ARIZONA AND COMPLAINED ABOUT THE PROBLEM WE EXPERIENCED. THE DEALERS EMPLOYEES INDICATED THEY HAVE NEVER HEARD SUCH A THING AND THEN COPIED THE OWNERS MANUAL HIGHLIGHTING THE PART THAT SAYS TO DISENGAGE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN GOING UPHILLS. I HAVE BEEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE FOR FIVE YEARS NOW AND HAVE LEARNED TO TURN OFF THE CRUISE GOING UPHILLS BUT HAVE STILL EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM THREE OTHER TIMES WHEN I WAS NOT CONSCIOUS OF THE GRADE WE WERE ON AND IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I TOOK TO THE DEALER AND THEY HOOKED IT UP TO THE DIAGNOSTIC COMPUTER AND FOUND NOTHING WRONG - THEY SAID THERE WAS NO FIX. IT IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE WHEN YOU DON'T KNOW HOW FAST YOU ARE REALLY GOING PLUS THE CONDITION SHORTENS THE LIFE OF THE FACTORY WARRANTY (36,000 MILES) BECAUSE THE ODOMETER IS RECORDING MORE MILES THAN ACTUAL. *NM
LESS THAN ONE YEAR AFTER PURCHASE THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS FAILED ON BOTH SIDES. TWO DEALERS PLUS TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS REFUSED SERVICE, SO I HAD TO PAY FOR A PRIVATE SPRING SHOP TO REPLACE THEM. THEY HAVE SINCE BEEN RECALLED BUT TO DATE I HAVE NOT RECEIVED REIMBURSEMENT. IN 2014 THE STEERING SHAFT HAD TO BE REPLACED AND AT THE SAME TIME THE FRAME WAS DETERMINED CORRODED BEYOND REPAIR. TOYOTA MADE PROMISE TO REPLACE THE FRAME UNDER RECALL IN NOV 2014 BUT TO DATE HAS NOT DELIVERED AND HAS NOT INDICATED WHEN I CAN EXPECT THE REPAIR TO BE MADE. FOR OVER SIX MONTHS NOW I HAVE BEEN LEFT WITH AN UNSAFE VEHICLE THAT I CAN'T SELL OR REPLACE.
