2006 TOYOTA TACOMA TAILGATE IS DANGEROUSLY WEAK, AND IS UNABLE TO SUPPORT WHAT MOST CONSIDER NORMAL WEIGHT FOR A TRUCK TAILGATE. ALTHOUGH SUBSTANDARD DESIGN MAY BE CONSIDERED "BUYER BEWARE", TRUCK BUYERS EXPECT A TAILGATE TO SUPPORT THE WEIGHT OF NORMAL TRUCK USE ACTIVITIES. TOYOTA PROVIDES NO WARNING OR CAUTION ANYWHERE THAT THE TAILGATE IS OF INSUFFICIENT STRENGTH TO PERFORM NORMAL 1/2-TON TRUCK DUTIES, AND TYPICALLY (PER INTERNET FORUM THREADS) TELLS THEIR CUSTOMERS THAT IT IS THEIR PROBLEM AND THAT THEY SHOULD NOT EXPECT TO BE ABLE TO SAFELY USE THE TAILGATE FOR ANYTHING MORE THAN HIDING THE INSIDE OF THE BED. SINCE TOYOTA HAS PRODUCED A SUBSTANDARD DESIGNED PART, THEY SHOULD HAVE PROVIDED A VISUAL WARNING ON THE PART TO ALERT CUSTOMERS TO THE DANGER THEIR PRODUCT IMPOSES IF USED IN A TRADITIONAL MANNER. SINCE THEY DID NOT DO SO, THEY SHOULD BE HELD LIABLE TO PROVIDE A REDESIGNED PART TO THEIR CUSTOMERS OR FULL RESTITUTION FOR THE PURCHASE PRICE OF THE VEHICLES. A GOOGLE OR SIMILAR INTERNET SEARCH ON "TACOMA TAILGATE FORUM" WILL SUBSTANTIATE MY STATEMENTS BEYOND MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE WITH THE TAILGATE BENDING. *TR
IN JANUARY 2007 I PURCHASED A NEW 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. SINCE THIS TIME I HAVE NOTICED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS THAT WHEN I AM SITTING AT A STOP, THE TRUCK LUNGES FORWARD. I HAVE NEVER EXPERIENCED THIS SENSATION WITH OTHER VEHICLES I HAVE OWNED OR DRIVEN, BUT THOUGHT THAT MAYBE I WAS TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE BRAKE PEDAL ENOUGH TO ALLOW THE TRUCK TO MOVE FORWARD. MY WIFE, WHO RARELY DRIVES THE TRUCK; HOWEVER, HAS EXPERIENCED THE SAME ISSUE. BECAUSE IT HAS HAPPENED ENOUGH, I KNOW ENOUGH NOT TO GET TOO CLOSE TO A CAR IN FRONT OF ME WHEN I AM SITTING AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN. THAT BEING SAID, I JUST READ AN ARTICLE IN A NEWSPAPER THAT STATED THAT THERE ARE OTHER 2006 TACOMA DRIVERS THAT HAVE EXPERIENCED SIMILAR SITUATIONS, SOME OF WHICH MAY HAVE LED TO CRASHES. FOR THAT REASON, I HAVE DECIDED TO REPORT MY SITUATION AS WELL. *TR
REAR AXLE SEALS CONTINUE TO LEAK AFTER BEING REPAIRED BY THE DEALER TWICE. *TR
I WANT TO EXPRESS MY CONCERNS WITH MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. I ALSO HAVE A LURCHING PROBLEM ONCE AT A COMPLETE STOP WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE. I HAVE NEVER HIT ANYTHING, BUT THERE TIMES WHEN IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE HAS TAPPED MY REAR BUMPER. I DON'T KNOW THAT THIS IS A MAJOR PROBLEM FOR ME, BUT I'VE READ THAT OTHERS HAVE ACTUALLY HIT OTHER CARS DUE TO THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS NOT NORMAL, IN MY OPINION. AND TOYOTA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM BEFORE MORE PEOPLE GET HURT. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK BECAUSE OF TOYOTAS REPUTATION FOR QUALITY AND DEPENDABILITY. REAR HYDRAULIC BRAKES SQUEAL WHEN REVERSING AFTER VEHICLE SAT OVERNIGHT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT UNKNOWN SPEEDS, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FELL INTO THE FLOORBOARD AND BECAME STUCK IN THE OPEN THROTTLE POSITION. THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO ABNORMALLY ACCELERATE UP TO 120 MPH. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE BUT TO NO AVAIL. HE THEN SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND WAS ABLE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE UNTIL STOPPING. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR ADDITIONAL TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS REPLACED. THE FAILURE PERSISTED. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS LEFT WITH THE DEALER AND HE DID NOT FEEL SAFE OPERATING THE VEHICLE AFTER THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO RECUR. THE CONTACT REFUSED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT FURTHER REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 25,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 TO 70 MPH, THE DRIVE TRAIN VIBRATED UNCONTROLLABLY, AND THE SEAT AND STEERING WHEEL ALSO VIBRATED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TIRES, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000.
MY FAMILY AND I WERE DRIVING IN OUR 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. WE CAME UP TO A STOP LIGHT AND WE BEGAN TO SLOW DOWN TO APPROX 15 MILES PER HOUR THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP AND BEGAN TO ACCELERATE ON ITS OWN. I TRIED TO STOP IT BUT COULD NOT CONTROL THE VEHICLE AND AS A RESULT WE WRECKED INTO A TRUCK THAT WAS IN FRONT OF US. IF IS WAS NOT FOR THAT TRUCK WE WOULD HAVE GONE INTO THE INTERSECTION ON A RED LIGHT. THE DAY AFTER THE CRASH WE TOOK THE TRUCK TO OUR LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WHAT DO YOU KNOW THEY CAN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. I HAVE REFUSED TO DRIVE THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE AND BY READING ALL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS THAT ARE JUST LIKE MINE I THINK THAT TOYOTA NEEDS TO FIND OUT WHAT'S GOING ON BEFORE THEY HAVE A HUGE LAWSUIT ON THERE HANDS. I PRINTED OUT ALL OF THE COMPLAINTS THAT WERE JUST LIKE MINE AND TOOK THEM TO THE MANAGER IN THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND AS OF TODAY WE ARE WAITING ON FURTHER TEST TO BE DONE. THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED TWO SPONTANEOUS AND UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATIONS WITHIN ABOUT TWO HOURS. THE FIRST WAS ON THE HIGHWAY. I TURNED INTO A PULLOUT TO ALLOW A FASTER CAR TO PASS ON A SNOW-SLICKED ROAD. WHILE TURNING BACK TOWARD THE HIGHWAY AT SLOW SPEED, ABOUT 5 MPH, TAPPING ON MY BRAKE PEDAL, THE CAR SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND I WAS FORCED TO STAND ON THE BRAKES TO KEEP IT FROM RUNNING AWAY. BECAUSE OF THE ANTI-SKID BRAKES ENGAGING, THE CAR STILL MADE IT 3-4 FEET INTO THE TRAFFIC LANE BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO STOP. THE SECOND INCIDENT OCCURRED ABOUT AN HOUR LATER WHEN I ARRIVED HOME. I WAS BACKING THE TRUCK DOWN A CURVED, GRAVEL DRIVEWAY TOWARD A TUCK-UNDER GARAGE. THE TOTAL DISTANCE TO BE TRAVELED WAS ABOUT 30 FEET. EASING DOWN IN THE TURN, I HAD TRAVELED ABOUT 20 FEET WITH MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE (IDLING POWER WAS ALL THAT WAS NEEDED TO BACK DOWN AT 1-2 MPH; NO GAS WAS APPLIED). THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY LURCHED BACKWARDS. AGAIN, I HAD TO STAND ON THE BRAKES WHILE THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE REAR TIRES SPUN AND THREW GRAVEL, DIGGING 3-4 INCHES DEEP INTO THE GRAVEL SURFACE, BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO TURN OFF THE ENGINE. THE FOLLOWING MONDAY, I TOOK THE TRUCK TO MY TOYOTA DEALER. THEY WERE UNABLE TO FIND ANY DEFECT OR RECREATE THE PROBLEM, BUT SAID THEY WERE OPENING A CASE FILE WITH TOYOTA ON THE INCIDENTS AND HOPED TO GAIN MORE INFORMATION FROM THE MANUFACTURER. *TR SEE ALSO 10216086 *DSY CONSUMER SENT A LETTER WITH NEW INFORMATION. WHEN I DRIVE OVER A BUMP EVEN A SMALL ONE THE LEAF SPRINGS BOTTOM OUT, BUT WORSE WHEN SOME ONE IS RIDING WITH ME. NEVER COULD LOAD MY CAMPING GEAR IN WITH OUT IT DOING THIS. LEAF SPRINGS ARE WEAK. SEEN RECALL BUT DEALERSHIP WONT REPLACE LEAF SPRINGS FOR ME. MY SHOCKS ARE GONE BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T MADE TO TAKE ALL THE LOAD. 1/4 TON LEAFS SPRINGS DON'T SUPPORT A 1/2 TON VEHICLE. CORVALLIS WAS WHERE I TOOK IT THE LAST TIME, BUT THEY SAID HAVE TO WAIT FOR FIX? MY FEAR OF THEM BREAKING AND A CRASH HAPPEN AND OTHER PEOPLE GET CAUGHT UP IN IT AND SOME ONE LOSE A LIFE. WHAT WILL IT TAKE TO GET THIS FIXED? TIRED OF THE B.S. THEY SAY. CAN YOU HELP WITH THIS ARE AM I GONNA NEED A LAWYER? VEHICLE ACCELERATES (SURGES) ON ITS OWN AND BRAKING DOES NOT REMEDY THE PROBLEM. THIS HAS HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES WHEN THE CRUISE CONTROL IS NOT BEING USED. IT ALSO IS NOT ATTRIBUTED TO THE FLOOR MATS AS WE HAVE CAREFULLY CHECKED THE POSITIONING OF OUR MATS. *TR
ON ALL 2005 AND 2006 TOYOTA TACOMAS THE FOURWHEEL DRIVE SELECTOR SWITCH DOES NOT LIGHT UP AND IS VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND WHEN DRIVING AT NIGHT. I NEEDED TO PUT THE TRUCK INTO FOURWHEEL DRIVE AND HAD TO FEEL AROUND THE DASHBOARD FOR A FEW SECONDS BEFORE I COULD GET IT INTO FOURWHEEL DRIVE. I FEEL THAT THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT AND SOMEONE GETTING HURT BECAUSE THEY CAN'T GET INTO FOURWHEEL DRIVE IN A HURRY IF THEY NEED TO. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER BUT THEY SAID THERE WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. I ALSO CONTACTED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND TOLD THEM ABOUT THE PROBLEM BUT I DON'T THINK THEY WILL DO ANYTHING BASED ON THEIR RESPONSE. ALL OTHER TOYOTA FOURWHEEL DRIVE MODELS HAVE FOURWHEEL DRIVE SWITCHES THAT DO LIGHT UP. ALL TACOMA MODELS FROM ATLEAST 2001 TO 2004 HAVE SWITCHES THAT LIGHT UP. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY CHANGED THE SWITCH ON THE 2007 OR 2008 TACOMAS. THIS IS A VERY POPULAR TRUCK AND THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF THEM ON THE ROAD. I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON WHO IS NOT HAPPY ABOUT THIS. THERE ARE A NUMBER TACOMA FORUMS ON THE INTERNET WHERE PEOPLE ARE COMPLAING ABOUT THIS PROBLEM.*CN
SEVERAL PROBLEMS WITH LURCHING, SUDDEN ACCELERATION, AND HIGH IDLE. WHEN STOPPED WITH FOOT SQUARELY ON THE BRAKE (AND ONLY THE BRAKE), THERE WILL BE A SUDDEN LURCH THAT IS OFTEN STRONG ENOUGH TO OVERCOME THE BRAKE, NEARLY CAUSING SEVERAL ACCIDENTS WITH THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. ALWAYS SEEM TO BE PRESSING THE BRAKE HARD TO STOP MOTION AND STAY STOPPED. WHEN I LET OFF THE BRAKE, THE TRUCK ACCELERATES ABOUT 100 RPM BEFORE EVEN TOUCHING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL, AND BEGINS MOVING SIGNIFICANTLY. WHEN DECELERATING TO A STOP, HAVE HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES OF SUDDEN RPM AND ACCELERATION. THIS ALSO OCCURS WHEN GENTLY PULLING INTO MY GARAGE - THE ENGINE SUDDENLY LURCHES, AND HAS NEARLY CAUSED ME TO DAMAGE MY GARAGE. HAVE HAD SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE BRAKING TO STOP, BUT THE ENGINE LURCHES GREATLY (SEVERAL HUNDRED RPM), I ALMOST CAN'T GET THE TRUCK TO STOP, AND HAS NEARLY CAUSED SEVERAL ACCIDENTS. I HAVE BEEN FORTUNATE SO FAR, BUT AFRAID IT WON'T LAST. ALL OF THIS IS WORSENED WHEN THE AC/COMPRESSOR IS RUNNING - THE IDLE RPM INCREASES ABOUT 300 RPM (WAY MORE THAN NECESSARY), AND ALSO CONTRIBUTES TO WORSENING THE LURCH. SOMETIMES IT SEEMS THAT THE LURCHING OCCURS WHILE DOWN-SHIFTING DURING DECELERATION. THESE PROBLEMS HAPPEN TO ME REGULARLY - AND ALWAYS OCCUR WHEN RUNNING THE AC/COMPRESSOR. PLEASE ADDRESS ASAP. THERE WAS NO EVENTS LEADING UP, IT JUST STARTED ONE DAY. YOU PUT THE BRAKE ON AND ALL OF A SUDDEN THE TRUCK WOULD TRY TO LEAP FORWARD WITH A LOUD THUNK. 4. MY REAR END WAS CONSTANTLY BOTTOMING OUT AND AS A RESULT IT CREATED A PRETTY HARSH RIDE. WHAT EXACTLY DOES THAT MEAN? WELL, EVERY TIME I CARRIED A FULL LOAD OF PASSENGERS / TOWED OUR 19' BOAT, / OR HAULED MATERIAL IN THE BED IT WILL BOTTOM OUT. THE SLIGHTEST DIP OR SPEED BUMP EVEN AT 10MPH IS FELT. DO I FEEL IT WHEN I'M BY MYSELF AND THE BED IS EMPTY, AND THERE ARE NO OTHER PASSENGERS? YES, BUT AT HIGHER SPEEDS. DO I EVER OFF-ROAD MY VEHICLE? NO. \ WELL, TYPICALLY IN THE PRE 35 THOUSAND MILES WHILE UNDER WARRANTY TOYOTAS PAPER WORK WOULD CONSTANTLY STATE THAT THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM, THEREFORE THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH IT. I CALLED TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT THE SECOND TIME AND A GIRL ANSWERED AND I ASKED ABOUT MAKING AN APPOINTMENT AND I TOLD HER ABOUT THE ISSUE THAT I WAS HAVING, AND SHE RESPONDED, TELLING ME THAT MY TRUCK WAS BEYOND ITS WARRANTY PERIOD. OH, I HAVE 66, THOUSAND MILES ON IT AND PURCHASED IT IN JANUARY OF 06. ANYWAY, SHE GAVE ME AN 800 NUMBER TO SEE IF I WAS ELIGIBLE. WELL, A REQUEST WAS PUT IN FOR ONE OF THE MAIN MECHANICS TO TAKE A RIDE WITH ME TO WITNESS THE PROBLEM. A VERY SHORT RIDE LATER AFTER HAVING HIT A FEW SMALL DIPS AT 10, 20, AND 30 MILES PER HOUR WHEN HE BOTH HEARD AND FELT THE BOTTOMING OUT OF THE VEHICLE. HE SUGGESTED THAT WE GO BACK TO THE SERVICE CENTER. WE GOT BACK AND THE FIRST THING HE DID WAS LOOK UNDER THE BED AND HE POPPED UP AND STATED THAT THE SPRINGS WERE FLAT ON ONE SIDE AND OFF ON THE OTHER SIDE. WHY DIDN'T EVERYONE ELSE DO THE SAME BEFORE, NOW WHEN IT'S TO MY CONVENIENCE TO HAVE THE ISSUE ADDRESSED, I'M DENIED. I'M DENIED ABOUT AN ISSUE THAT'S BEEN THERE ALL ALONG. I WAS SIMPLY TOLD "SORRY, WE CAN'T DO ANYTHING FOR YOU. YOUR MILEAGE IS TOO FAR OVER THE WARRANTY. ". I'VE NEVER HEARD OF ANY OTHER 1/2 TON PICKUP NOT BEING ABLE TO CARRY A LOAD. THEY SHOULD JUST CALL THE TACOMA A CRUCK BECAUSE IT'S MORE CAR THAN TRUCK. *TR
THROTTLE STICKS, UNSAFE. ALSO MAKES VEHICLE HARD TO DRIVE. DOES IT CONSTANTLY OVER APPROX 50 MPH. TOYOTA IS AWARE, BUT IN DENIAL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE LABEL ON HIS VEHICLE REQUIRES THE AIR PRESSURE IN HIS TIRES TO BE AT 29 PSI. WHEN TIRE PRESSURE IS AT 29 PSI, THE PRESSURE INDICATOR LIGHT ILLUMINATES AND REMAINS LIT. THE VEHICLE DRIFTS ALL OVER THE ROAD AND THE TIRES WEAR OUT QUICKLY FROM UNDER INFLATION. THE TIRE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE AIR PRESSURE FOR THE TIRES SHOULD BE 51 PSI. A MECHANIC AT ANOTHER SHOP STATED THAT 45 PSI IS THE BEST AIR PRESSURE FOR THAT CLIMATE. THE CONTACT AGREED AND STATED THAT THE VEHICLE DRIVES THE BEST AT 45 PSI. THE CONTACT DID NOT PROVIDE TIRE INFORMATION BECAUSE HE STATED THAT THE TIRES WERE NOT THE ISSUE. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 9,000 AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 8,950.
I HAVE A 2006 X RUNNER WITH 14000 MILES ON TIRES. TIRE STARTED CRACKING AND CHUNKS COMING OUT OF TREAD. WENT TO THREE FIRESTONE DEALERS. 1ST SAID NO PROBLEM WOULD REPLACE FOR 1200. 2ND DID NOT HAVE TIME YOU LOOK AT THEM. 3RD SAID THE TIRE NEEDED TO COME OF THE TRUCK THERE WAS A PROBLEM. THE PROBLEM WAS BRIDESTONE BUT COST ME 615.00 TIRES ARE BRIDESTONE POTENZA REO50A P255/45/R18 99V BL. *JB

APPROXIMATELY SEPTEMBER 12, 2007, I WAS APPROACHING A STOPLIGHT AND APPLIED THE BRAKE OF MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE VEHICLE BEGAN REVVING OUT OF CONTROL AND STARTED MOVING FORWARD. I STEPPED HARDER ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO INCH FORWARD - I HAD ALL MY WEIGHT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. MY TRUCK WAS TOWED TO A LOCAL DEALERSHIP WHO TOLD ME MY CLUTCH WAS BURNED UP AND WOULD COST $1450 TO BE FIXED AND WOULD NOT BE COVERED BY WARRANTY. INFANT SEATS IN 2006 TOYOTA ACCESS CAB. WE WENT TO HAVE THE CAR SEAT INSTALLED BY CERTIFIED INSTALLERS AT THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT. THREE FIREMEN COULD NOT GET THE SEAT INSTALLED TIGHTLY AND SAFELY ENOUGH USING THE LATCH OR THE SEATBELT. THEY REFERRED US TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP, STEVEN TOYOTA IN HARRISONBURG, VIRGINIA. FOUR MEN ATTEMPTED TO INSTALL THE SEAT AT THE DEALERSHIP AN THEY WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER AND HE MADE SOME PHONE CALLS ON OUR BEHALF. AFTER SEVERAL DAYS, I HEARD BACK FROM HIM AND WAS TOLD THEY DIDN'T HAVE A SOLUTION EXCEPT TO ?PUT A CUSHION UNDER IT? TO HELP TIGHTEN IT. THIS WAS TOYOTA?S RESPONSE? A COMPLETELY NON-SPECIFIC, BLANKET STATEMENT THAT IF TAKEN SERIOUSLY AND THE CUSHION FAILED DURING A CRASH, COULD HAVE DEVASTATING RESULTS. NEXT, I SPOKE TO SOMEONE IN SALES WHO MADE A PHONE CALL TO "DAN" WHO IS APPARENTLY WORKS FOR TOYOTA?S SAFETY DEPARTMENT. SIX DAYS LATER, WE WERE TOLD THAT TOYOTA HAD ONLY HEARD OF ONE OTHER CASE THAT THIS WAS AN ISSUE AND IT WAS RESOLVED. WE WERE TOLD THAT THERE WAS ?NO RESOLUTION? AND TO TRY OTHER SEATS. THE DEALERSHIP DID MAKE A TRIP TO THE LOCAL TARGET STORE TO LOOK AT SEATS AND MAKE SUGGESTIONS BUT NONE OF THEM WORKED. WE MADE SEVERAL MORE ATTEMPTS WITH THE LOCAL FIRE DEPARTMENT AND WE COULD NOT FIND A SEAT THAT WOULD TIGHTEN SAFELY, EITHER WITH LATCH OR THE SEATBELT. STEVEN TOYOTA ALSO SUGGESTED THAT WE INSTALL THE SEAT IN THE FRONT BUT IT IS NOT RECOMMENDED AND EFFECTIVE JULY 1, A LAW IN THE STATE OF VIRGINIA. THE FOLLOWING SEATS WERE ATTEMPTED: BABY TREND FLEX LOC INFANT SEAT, COSCO SCENERA CONVERTIBLE SEAT, COSCO ALPHA OMEGA ELITE CONVERTIBLE/BOOSTER SEAT. ANOTHER ISSUE THAT WE NOTICED IS THAT IF A SEAT COULD BE INSTALLED, THE SEAT MUST LEAN AT A 45 DEGREE ANGLE FOR INFANTS TO RIDE. HOWEVER, THE ANGLE LEAVES NO ROOM FOR ANYONE TO SIT COMFORTABLY IN THE FRONT. THE PASSENGER SEAT HAD TO BE MOVED FORWARD TOO MUCH. I AM 5 FOOT 8 INCHES TALL AND MY KNEES WERE AGAINST THE DASHBOARD. *JB

I HAVE CHECKED THE TIRE PRESSURE ACCORDING TO THE LABEL ON THE INSIDE OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR AND CANNOT DETERMINE IF ANY TIRES HAVE LOW PRESSURE. WE HAVE HAD TWO INCIDENTS WITH OUR 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK; I. MY WIFE, WAS DRIVING ROUTE 40 WHEN AFTER RED LIGHTS THE ENGINE SUDDENLY STARTED SPEEDING UP W/O ANY WARNING OR ALARM. HAVING HER FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DIDN'T HAVE ANY IMPACT. SHE HAD TO BRAKE AS MUCH SHE COULD TO CONTROL THE CAR. SHE WAS ABLE TO PULL TO PULL OFF BUT STILL COULDN'T CONTROL THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE DIDN'T EVEN SHUT DOWN WHEN TURNING THE KEY. CHANGING THE SELECTOR LEVER TO NEUTRAL WAS IMPOSSIBLE AS THE ENGINE TOOK FULL RPM. SOMEHOW AFTER SOME "TRIAL AND HORROR" SHE WAS ABLE TO SHUT AND RESTART THE ENGINE AND EVENTUALLY THE CAR WAS BACK IN CONTROL. THE SITUATION HAD BEEN REALLY SCARY. I WASN'T THERE SO I COULD NOT FULLY APPRECIATE WHAT HAD HAPPENED WHEN SHE DESCRIBED THE SITUATION. II. MY WIFE DIDN'T DARE TO USE THE CAR BEFORE I CAME BACK FROM A BUSINESS TRIP. YESTERDAY - SATURDAY 3/10 - I WAS DRIVING THE TRUCK THE FIRST TIME AFTER THE PREVIOUS INCIDENT. THERE WAS A SLOW DOWN IN THE TRAFFIC WHEN SUDDENLY THE ENGINE DID THE SAME AS ABOVE. I WAS ON A MIDDLE LANE AND COULDN'T DO ANYTHING BUT BRAKE AS HARD AS I COULD. HAVING HAZARD LIGHTS ON AND SLOWING THE SPEED CAREFULLY I WAS ABLE STOP ON THE HIGHWAY W/O ANYBODY DRIVING ON US. I SHUT AND RESTARTED THE ENGINE COUPLE OF TIMES W/O ANY IMPACT. EACH TIME ENGINE STARTED AS IF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WOULD BE PUSHED DOWN. I STARTED THE CAR AND PUSHING THE BRAKE PEDAL HARD I WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE TRUCK AND DRIVE TO NEXT RED LIGHTS. AFTER SOME BRAKING AND RESTARTING THE CAR WAS AGAIN SUDDENLY BACK IN CONTROL. THE DEFECT DESCRIBED ABOVE COULD EASILY CAUSE A CRASH WITH SERIOUS INJURY OR EVEN DEATH WHEN HAPPENING IN A HEAVY TRAFFIC OR BAD WEATHER CONDITIONS. YESTERDAY GOING HOME, I TOOK THE INTERSTATE. TRYING THE LOWER SPEED (FOR BETTER MILEAGE), I WAS GOING 60 MPH WITH THE CC SET. TRAFFIC CAME UP ON ME AND I FELT MY TRUCK WAS IN DANGER, SO I USED MY FOOT TO INCREASE TO 70 MPH. WHEN I REACHED 70 MPH, I PRESSED SET ON THE CC SWITCH FOR IT TO SET THE CRUISE AT 70 MPH. I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA WHICH I PURCHASED NEW, AND NOW HAVE 11,347 MILES ON IT. IT'S AN AUTOMATIC 4 SPEED ECT-I TRANSMISSION. FROM DATE OF PURCHASE TO PRESENT AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 50 AND 60 MPH THERE IS A LOUD GERA WHINE. BELOW 50 AND ABOVE 60 IT GOES AWAY. I THINK IT MAY BE CAUSED BY THE RING & PINION GEARS IN THE DIFFERENTIAL,ALTHOUGH I AM NOT CERTAIN. *NM
