The contact's lawyer stated that another vehicle lost control due to a dropped water bottle and collided with his client's vehicle on its front driver's side at 50 MPH. The contact's lawyer stated that no air bags deployed. The contact's lawyer stated that the contact sustained injuries to the pelvis, which was fractured, a concussion, and contusions to the head, left leg, and a laceration to the head and back. Medical attention was required. The contact's lawyer stated that a police report was filed. The contact's lawyer mentioned that the contact was in a coma for two months and was on a ventilator for four months. The vehicle was towed to a private location. The vehicle was deemed a total loss. The contact stated that the failure was not diagnosed by a dealer or independent mechanic. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 500,000.
MY TOYOTA TACOMA (2007) APPEARS TO QUALIFY FOR THE AIRBAG RECALL BUT SEARCHING MY VIN DOES NOT BRING IT UP. THE MANUFACTURING FACILITY, DATES AND VIN RANGE ALL SEEM TO MATCH. "TAKATA RECALL". I WAS IN MOTION TRAVEL HOME ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN I RAN OFF THE ROAD AND HIT A TREE HEAD ON. THE AIRBAG PART CUT THE LEFT SIDE OF MY CHIN. THE ER DOCTOR SAID THE HOLE WAS THE SIZE OF TWO FIFTY CENT PIECES BUT TOGETHER. AND HE COULD SEE THE JAW MUSCLES. THE VEHICLE IS TOTAL. I HAVE A POLICE ACCIDENT REPORT, INSURANCE CLAIM, MEDICAL EXPENSE AND PICTURE OF THE CUT AND THE TRUCK. I WILL NEED HELP WITH THESE PHOTO AND DOCUMENTATION TO UPLOAD ON THE FORMAT.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE AIR BAG WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED ON AND OFF FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LA ROCHE TOYOTA IN FINDLAY OHIO WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE EXTERNAL AIR BAG SENSOR ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE BUMPER WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED REPLACEMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VIN WAS INVALID. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
DUE TO COMBINATION OF THE SPIRAL CABLE DESIGN AND CHARACTERISTICS UNIQUE TO THE CHASSIS COMPONENTS OF THE TACOMA, STEERING WHEEL VIBRATION ('FLUTTER') CAUSED FRICTION BETWEEN THE FLEXIBLE FLAT CABLE (FFC) AND THE RETAINER IN THE SPIRAL CABLE ASSEMBLY IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THIS OCCURRED IN A FFC WITH SIXTEEN-CHANNEL CIRCUITS AND DAMAGED CERTAIN CIRCUITS ON THE FLAT CABLE THAT PROVIDES CONNECTIVITY TO THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG MODULE. AS A RESULT, CONNECTIVITY WAS LOST AND THE AIR BAG WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE DRIVER'S AIR BAG MAY HAVE BECOME DEACTIVATED, CAUSING IT TO NOT DEPLOY IN THE EVENT OF A CRASH. THIS COULD INCREASE THE RISK OF INJURY TO THE DRIVER. THE 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA WITH A FFC WITH SEVEN CHANNEL-CIRCUITS HAVE ALREADY BEEN RECALLED FOR THIS PROBLEM. INDICATIONS OF A DEVELOPING PROBLEM WAS FIRST NOTED THROUGH ILLUMINATION OF THE AIRBAG WARNING LAMP ILLUMINATED AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND ROTATING THE STEERING WHEEL. VEHICLE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 125,000 MILES AT THAT TIME. INITIALLY THE LAMP WOULD CYCLE OFF AND ON WITH THE FREQUENCY OF THE LAMP IN THE ON POSITION INCREASING OVER TIME. THIS SUGGESTED THAT THE LOSS OF CONNECTIVITY WAS A RESULT OF INCREASED WEAR IN CERTAIN CIRCUITS. EVENTUALLY THE LAMP WOULD STAY ON CONTINUOUSLY INDICATING THAT ALL CONNECTIVITY WAS LOST IN THE DRIVER'S AIRBAG CONTROL MODULE. VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER FOR SERVICE AT A MILEAGE OF 129,094 AND THE PROBLEM WAS CORRECTED AT A COST OF $461.83 PLUS TAX.

THE CONSUMER THEN SENT TOYOTA A COPY OF THE CANCELLED CHECK,. TOYOTA THEN RESPONDED BY ASKING FOR THE REPAIR ORDER, WHICH THE CONSUMER HAD ALREADY SENT THEM. THEY ALSO ASKED THE CONSUMER TO VISIT AN AUTHORIZED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE REPAIRS COMPLETED,WHICH HAD ALREADY BEEN DONE. *JB

INJURIES INCLUDED FACIAL CUT TO CHIN REQUIRING EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL STITCHES, A CONCUSSION, BLACK EYE AND OTHER CUTS ( HAVE PHOTOGRAPHS THAT COULD NOT BE UPLOADED DUE TO SIZE) TAKATA INFORMED ME I MAY HAVE CLAIM. I FILLED OUT THERE FORMS ONLY TO BE DENIED THREE TIMES, THE LAST ONE DUE TO MY VEHICLE NOT ON RECALL LIST. I RAN INTO THE BACK OF A TRUCK WHO WAS COMPLETELY STOPPED, AND I WAS MOVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35-40MPH ON IMPACT. THE IMPACT WAS PERFECTLY SQUARE INTO THE FRONT OF MY TRUCK. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY. I WAS WEARING MY SEAT BELT, HOWEVER I WAS STILL PUSHED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL QUITE HARD. FORTUNATELY I SUSTAINED NO MAJOR INJURIOUS, AND ONLY SUFFERED MINOR ACHES AND PAINS. *TR

TRUCK WAS IN A PARKING SLOT WHEN IT SUDDENLY ACCELERATED AND JUMPED THE CONCRETE BARRIER AND HIT THE BUILDING (DELI) BROKE THE GLASS AND DAMAGED BUILDING. AIRBAG DID NOT DEPLOY. DAMAGE TO TRUCK WAS $6533.97. THIS IS SECOND TIME TRUCK HAS ACCELERATED UNEXPECTEDLY. TOYOTA INSPECTED IT ON 6/25/2012 AND DETERMINED IT WAS NOT A MANUFACTURE DESIGN OR DEFECT. I BELIEVE THERE IS SOME KIND OF MALFUNCTION. THEY CHECKED THE OPERATION OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND THEY CLAIM ALL THROTTLE TESTS WERE SAFE AS THEY WERE DESIGNED. *TR
