DRIVER'S SIDE REAR BOTTOM LEAF SPRING FAILED IN FATIGUE. THE FAILED SPRING CAUSED DAMAGE AND DEFORMATION TO THE BRAKE LINE. I CONSIDER THIS A PREMATURE LIFE AS THIS VEHICLE HAS NOT EXPERIENCED TOWING OR OFF ROAD USE. *TR
WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED BY A LOCAL GARAGE THE MECHANIC NOTICED THAT ONE OF THE LEAFS (THE MIDDLE LEAF) IN THE DRIVERS SIDE LEAF SPRING STACK HAD BROKEN, ROTATED INWARDS (AWAY FROM THE TIRE) AND HAD NEARLY ABRADED THROUGH ONE OF THE HYDRAULIC BRAKE LINES. IF THE LINE HAD SEVERED THEN 50% OF THE VEHICLES BRAKING WOULD NOT BE OPERATIONAL. THIS COULD LEAD TO EXCESSIVE STOPPING DISTANCES AND COULD BE FATAL! DETAILED PICTURES AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST. *TR
NO ACCIDENT OR BREAKAGE OF REAR LEAF SPRINGS, BUT I WAS NOTIFIED IN 2014 OF THE RECALL NOTICE AND IT IS NOW 11/2015 AND THEIR IS STILL NO REMEDY! THIS IS TOO LONG A PERIOD FOR A RECALL TO BE ON HOLD, WHEN I HAUL FIREWOOD, A BOAT, ITEMS TO THE LANDFILL AND GRANDKIDS AND HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT A LEAF SPRING BREAKING AND CAUSING AN ACCIDENT OR INJURY TO MY FAMILY. TOYOTA MAKES LOTS OF MONEY OFF OF THEIR VEHICLES AND THIS SHOULD BE TOP PRIORITY ON THEIR LIST AND YOU CAN BET IT WILL BE THE LAST TOYOTA I BUY. I'LL GO BACK TO BUYING AMERICAN MADE VEHICLES INSTEAD OF IMPORTS! I GUESS THAT'S WHAT I GET FOR BUYING A TOYOTA! I DO HAVE A CASE # 1509 FROM TOYOTA, BUT THEY STILL WILL NOT PREPARE A REMEDY, AND I THINK THIS IS BS... YOU TOOK MY MONEY FOR THE TRUCK, NOW FIX IT IN A TIMELY MANNER AND QUIT SCREWING US AROUND. I CAN SEE THERE ARE LOTS OF UNHAPPY OWNERS WITH THIS SAME ISSUE FROM THE COMPLAINTS.
THE RUNNING LIGHTS MELTED THE LENSES AT 35000 MILES AND I TOOK MY TRUCK BACK TO TOYOTA AND THEY REPLACED THE LIGHTS, SAID THEY PUT BULBS IN THERE THAT WOULD NOT GET AS HOT. NOW AT OVER 80000 MILES THEY HAVE MELTED AGAIN, THE PLASTIC IS TURNING BLACK, LOOKS LIKE A POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. I HAVE SEEN THIS SAME ISSUE WITH OTHER SIMILAR MODELS. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM, NEEDS TO RECALL AND PROPERLY FIX! *TR
APPROX. 6 MONTHS AGO I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING WAS DEFECTIVE. I GOT THE LETTER AFTER THE LEAF IN MY TACOMA HAD BROKE AND REPLACED. THE LETTER STATES I'M SUPPOSED TO GET REIMBURSED FOR MY EXPENSE BUT AS OF TODAY I HAVEN'T RECEIVED THE INSTRUCTIONS HOW. *TR
MY AMBER DRIVING LIGHT LENS WITHIN THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLIES ARE BURNED, ONE HAS BROKEN IN HALF. *TR
AMBER INSIDE TURN SIGNAL LAMPS ATTACHED TO FRONT HEADLIGHTS ARE SCORCHING INSIDE LENS OF HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. *TR
REAR LEAF SPRING RECALL - RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL INTERIM NOTICE SEPT. 2014 ADVISING OF DEFECTIVE REAR LEAF SPRING. CONTACTED DEALERSHIP NUMEROUS TIMES FOR REPAIR, AND ADVISED CONTINUALLY TOYOTA HAS NOT YET DESIGNED OR CREATED A FIX FOR THE PROBLEM. AS OF JULY 28, 2015 DEALERSHIP STILL DOES NOT HAVE REPLACEMENT PART FOR THE DEFECTIVE REAR LEAF SPRING. I HAVE ADVISED DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES THAT THE VEHICLE WHEN STOPPED AND BRAKE APPLIED, VEHICLE ABRUPTLY WITHOUT WARNING JOLTS FORWARD ON ITS OWN AND MAKES A LOUD CLUNK IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARDS. FEELS AS IF THE VEHICLE HAS BEEN HIT FROM BEHIND FROM ANOTHER VEHICLE, WHEN IN FACT IT HAS NOT. DEALERSHIP CONFIRMED THAT THE ISSUES EXPLAINED ABOVE ARE DEFINITELY RELATED TO THE FAULTY REAR LEAF SPRING, BUT HAS NO ANSWERS OR ANY REMEDY OF PROBLEM. I WAS ALSO ADVISED BY DEALERSHIP THAT REAR LEAF SPRING MAY CAUSE BRAKES TO FAIL OR FUEL TANK TO BE PUNCTURED AND CAUSE FIRE. THIS IS DEFINITELY NOT SAFE, AND WE ARE CONCERNED FOR OUR SAFETY! BOUGHT A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA NEW. WHEN SLOWING DOWN TO MAKE A TURN, THEN ACCELERATE THE ENGINE REVS UP TO 3,000 RPMS AND THE TRANSMISSIONS TAKES SEVERAL SECONDS TO ENGAGE INTO GEAR. THIS IS A DEFINITE HAZARD WHEN IT COMES TO ON COMING TRAFFIC. *TR
I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR OVER 1 YEAR TO HAVE THE RECALLED LEAF SPRINGS DEALT WITH ON MY TRUCK. IN FEBRUARY 2015, MY LEAF SPRING BROKE, 6 MONTHS AFTER THE FIRST AND ONLY RECALL NOTIFICATION LETTER.. MY DEALER HAD " AT LEAST A 6 MONTH WAIT" FOR THE PART. MY MECHANIC REPAIRED IT AND I PAID THE BILL. TOYOTA FILED A CASE NUMBER AND STATED I WOULD BE REIMBURSED WHEN THE REMEDY RECALL WAS ANNOUNCED. AFTER ANOTHER 6 MONTHS, I HAVE YET TO HEAR ANYTHING FROM TOYOTA OR WHITE RIVER TOYOTA.I SPOKE WITH MY DEALER TODAY,AND THEY "HAVE NO IDEA WHEN THE REMEDY WILL BE AVAILABLE, WAITING TO HEAR FROM TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS". I SPOKE TO TOYOTA TODAY AND THEY COULD NOT GIVE MANY INFORMATION REGARDING REIMBURSEMENT, WHEN THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO FIX THE LEAF SPRING, OR THE STATUS OF MY CASE. I FIND IT DISTURBING THAT A SAFERY ISSUE IS TAKING OVER 14 MONTHS TO RESOLVE WHEN IT ONLY INVOLVES MANUFACTURING REPLACEMENT SPRINGS. I ALSO AM ANGRY THAT NO ONE AT TOYOTA HAS ANY TIMETABLE ON RESOLVING THE ISSUE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE PROGRESSING ASSOCIATED WITH THE WHEELS ON THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING PREMATURELY FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT WHEEL BEARING. THE FAILURE RECURRED MONTHS LATER. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LEFT REAR WHEEL BEARING FAILED AND THEY REPLACED THE PART WITH AN AFTERMARKET WHEEL BEARING. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE ABNORMAL NOISE CONTINUED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHO REPLACED THE REAR RIGHT WHEEL BEARING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE SEVERAL TIMES AND PROVIDED NO REMEDY. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 62,000. UPDATED 09/17/15*LJ *CN
8/4/14 THE LEFT REAR SPRING BROKE SEVERING THE BRAKE LINE, LEAVING HER WITH NO ABILITY TO STOP THE TRUCK. 7/12/13 THE RIGHT REAR SPRING WAS FOUND TO BE BROKEN. BOTH THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THE SHOP THAT FIXED THE SPRINGS TOLD ME THAT THIS WAS VERY COMMON IN THESE TRUCKS. HAD MY DAUGHTER LOST HER BRAKES TEN MINUTES EARLIER, SHE WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE INTERSTATE AND THE RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN TRAGIC.. UPDATED 08-20-14 *BF. UPDATED 08/27/2014 *JS
A BROKEN LEAF SPRING CUT MY BRAKE LINE AND MY BRAKES STOPPED WORKING WITH MY 8 YEAR OLD CHILD IN THE TRUCK. I HAD ALREADY REPLACED A LEAF SPRING ON THE OTHER SIDE. THIS COULD HAVE CAUSED A VERY SERIOUS ACCIDENT, LUCKILY THE BRAKES STILL HAD SOME FLUID IN THEM WHEN I REALIZED THERE WAS AN ISSUE. THE TRUCK HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. *TR
TODAY, 04/12/14, AT AROUND 11:55 A.M., I HAD MY FOURTH EXPERIENCE OF UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN MY 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE FIRST TWO INCIDENTS I HAD NOT REPORTED. THE THIRD INCIDENT I DID REPORT TO TOYOTA, THEY EXAMINED MY TRUCK AND FOUND NOTHING THEY THOUGHT WOULD CAUSE THE ACCELERATION. TODAY, I WAS APPROACHING A BUSY INTERSECTION DURING A STREET FESTIVAL IN THE DOWNTOWN SECTION OF MY HOME TOWN. MY TRUCK DID NOT STOP WHEN I PRESSED THE BRAKE, BUT THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE TIRES SQUEALED TWICE AS I TRIED UNSUCCESSFULLY TO STOP THE VEHICLE. IT CARRIED ME THROUGH THE INTERSECTION - IF IT HAD BEEN OCCUPIED, I DON'T KNOW IF I WOULD HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STEER AWAY FROM PEDESTRIANS, AS THE STREET WAS NARROW AND IT ALL HAPPENED VERY FAST. AS SOON AS I HAD CONTROL OF THE TRUCK, I PULLED OVER TO CHECK THE RUG. THE RUG WAS HOOKED INTO ITS HOLE, A GOOD 3 INCHES FROM THE ACCELERATOR, AND COULD NOT BE MOVED BY HAND. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION) BUT THE MANUFACTURER HAD NOT SUPPLIED THE REMEDY PARTS FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND HAD BEEN UNABLE TO SPECIFY A REASONABLE TIME FRAME TO SUPPLY THE PART TO THE DEALER. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.

LEFT REAR LEAF SPRING SNAPPED WHILE DRIVING. *TR
I HEARD A RATTLING NOISE FROM THE RIGHT REAR OF THE TRUCK WHILE DRIVING ON A BUMPY SIDE ROAD. I INVESTIGATED AND DISCOVERED THE BOTTOM LEAF SPRING HAD BROKEN IN HALF. DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH I DISCOVERED THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH TACOMA'S. I CONTACTED THE DEALER AND IT IS NOT A COVERED ITEM (NO TBS) AND IT WOULD COST OVER $1800. I WENT TO MY LOCAL MECHANIC WHICH SAVED ME $700. DURING THE REPAIR IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT BOTH RIGHT AND LEFT WERE BROKEN. MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM; THAT TOYOTA LENGTHENED THE SPRINGS TO SOFTEN THE RIDE, AS A RESULT COMPROMISED THE STRENGTH. THE LEAF SPRINGS HAVE ALWAYS SQUEAKED JUST BY GETTING IN AND OUT OF THE TRUCK. THERE IS A STICKER ON THE DOOR FRAME STATING THAT THE LOAD RATING HAS BEEN REDUCED BY 290 LBS FOR THIS VEHICLE, I WONDERED WHY NOW I KNOW, CHEAP SPRINGS! *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL NOISE COMING FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE LEAF SPRINGS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER:14V604000 (SUSPENSION) HOWEVER, THE PART TO DO THE REPAIR WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 61,020. MA 10/22/2015. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHT SYSTEM FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE LENS TO FRACTURE AND THE BULBS TO BURN. THE TURNING SIGNALS THAT ARE CONNECT TO THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS ALSO FAILED. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT BULBS SEVERAL TIMES; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE WAS NOT CORRECTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT SYSTEM WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 67,000. *TR
NOTED SCORCHED SPOT OF ABOUT 2" DIAMETER IN CENTER OF BOTH FRONT AMBER DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS/TURN SIGNALS. VEHICLE HAS ONLY 34,000 MILES BUT IS OVER WARRANTY AGE LIMIT. I WAS AT DEALERSHIP FOR SEATBELT RECALL AND ASKED SERVICE MGR TO LOOK AT. HE STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALLS BUT THAT HE HAD SEEN "SOME OF THIS" BEFORE. HE GAVE ME # FOR "MY TOYOTA EXPERIENCE" AND EVENTUALLY TALKED TO SOMEONE IN CALIFORNIA. THEY WOULD NOT ADMIT ANY KNOWLEDGE OF THIS CONDITION BUT SAID THEY COULD ONLY EVALUATE IF DEALERSHIP ANALYZED AND TOLD THEM WHAT THE CAUSE WAS. THERE ANALYSIS; "YELLOW TURN SIGNAL BULB SEEMS TO GET TOO HOT AND BURNING LENS". MY COST TO FIX; $932.72. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE APPARENTLY TALKED TO DEALERSHIP AND WILL PAY FOR THE ASSEMBLIES TO REPLACE WITH MY COST BEING $192. WITH THE NUMBER OF IDENTICAL COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE IT IS OBVIOUS THIS IS A DESIGN DEFECT WHICH HAS FIRE HAZARD POTENTIAL. INSTEAD OF STONE-WALLING THIS DEFECT TOYOTA SHOULD OWN-UP AND FIX IT AT THEIR TOTAL EXPENSE. PEOPLE AND COMPANIES MAKE MISTAKES. IT TAKES A COMPANY WITH A QUALITY CONSCIENCE TO DO THE RIGHT THING FOR THEIR CUSTOMERS. *TR

DRIVING LIGHT/AMBER SIGNAL LIGHT ON FRONT OF VEHICLE. BULBS ARE TOO HOT AND HAVE MELTED THE LENS INSIDE THE HEADLIGHT ASSEMBLY. SOCKET THAT BULB PLUGS INTO IS ALSO CHARRING FROM HEAT. CONCERN THAT PLASTIC WILL IGNITE IF LEFT UNRESOLVED. VEHICLE IS TOYOTA TACOMA 2009 PRE-RUNNER. *TR

THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE MELTED THE LENS AND THE HIGH HEAT HAS ALSO CRACKED AND DISTORTED THE MAIN HEAD LIGHT LENS ON MY 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. *TR
THE BULB TO THE DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS MELTED THE LENS IN FRONT OF IT AND BROKE IT IN TWO PIECES. THIS IS FOR BOTH LIGHTS. THIS BULB IS TOO CLOSE TO THE LENS, PROBABLY A DEFECT IN ENGINEERING OR DESIGN. THESE LIGHTS ARE CONSTANTLY ON AND THERE IS NO WAY TO TURN THEM OFF. I'M AFRAID SOMETHING WILL CATCH ON FIRE. I CALLED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY COULDN'T FIX IT BECAUSE I DIDN'T HAVE EXTENDED WARRANTY. AND IF IT WAS DETERMINED THAT IT WAS A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAN I WOULD HAVE TO PAY HALF OF THE COST OF THE NEW HEADLIGHTS, WHICH WOULD BE AROUND $300, PLUS THE $150 FOR THE DIAGNOSTIC TEST. TOLD THEM OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM, TO NO AVAIL. THIS IS NOT FAIR AS IT'S OBVIOUS THIS IS DEFECTIVE EQUIPMENT/DESIGN. THANK YOU. *TR
I CAME TO A RED TRAFFIC LIGHT AND I HIT THE BRAKES BUT THE CAR WOULD NOT SLOW DOWN SO GRABBED THE STEERING WHEEL AND PUSHED DOWN ON THE BRAKE PETAL BUT THE CAR STILL WOULD NOT STOP SO PUT THE TRANSMISSION IN NEUTRAL AND THE CAR FINALLY STOPPED BUT THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO RACE THE TACK WAS UP TO 4000, WHEN THE LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN I PUT THE CAR INTO DRIVE AND THE CAR JERKED FORWARD AND AFTER ABOUT 4 SECONDS THE TACK DROPPED BACK TO 2000 RPM. *TR
AFTER HEARING CLUNKING NOISES IN THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK, AN INSPECTION REVEALED BROKEN REAR LEAF SPRINGS. THE SPRINGS WERE REPLACED BY A LOCAL MECHANIC AT A COST OF NEARLY $1100. I CONSIDER THE FAILURE OF THE SPRINGS TO BE PREMATURE AS I DO NOT USE THE TRUCK FOR HEAVY HAULING. RESEARCH REVEALS THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL TRUCK. *TR

WHEN DRIVING THE VEHICLE, UPON REACHING 35 TO 40 MILES PER HOUR THE VEHICLE STARTS TO SHAKE FOR ABOUT TWO TO THREE SECONDS. AFTER DOING RESEARCH ON THE COMPUTER AND AFTER HAVING THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED AT THE DEALER, I WAS TOLD THAT I NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. APPARENTLY THERE IS A TORQUE CONVERTER LOCKUP PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TSB DOES NOT PERTAIN TO MY VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. I BELIEVE THAT TOYOTA IS DELIBERATELY TRYING TO FIND A WAY TO NOT HAVE TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IF THIS IS HAPPENING IN OTHER VEHICLES THERE IS OBVIOUSLY A PROBLEM REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE VEHICLES MILEAGE IS WHEN THE PROBLEM OCCURS. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SUDDEN ACCELERATION. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED AS HE ATTEMPTED TO PULL INTO A PARALLEL PARKING SPOT, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN, WITH SO MUCH FORCE, HE HAD TO USE ALL OF HIS STRENGTH IN HIS LEGS TO STAND ON THE BRAKE PEDAL, UNTIL HE COULD SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE DECELERATED. THE DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS THAT ALSO DOUBLES AS TURN SIGNALS ARE BURNING A HOLE THROUGH THE PLASTIC LENS INSIDE THE HEADLIGHTS AND CRACKING THE LENS AS WELL. THESE ARE A KNOWN ISSUE WITH TOYOTA AND THEY PUT OUT A T-SB-0129-11 ON SEPTEMBER 7TH, 2011 AND CALLED IT AN "APPEARANCE CONCERN". THE AIR BAG SENSOR CAME ON IN MY '09 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO A MECHANIC AND A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WAS RUN. THE DIAGNOSIS WAS A FAULTY AIR BAG SPIRAL CABLE. THIS IDENTICAL ISSUE FORCED A RECALL OF 481,000 TACOMAS, INCLUDING '09 VEHICLES. HOWEVER, I WAS TOLD THAT MY TRUCK DID NOT FALL WITHIN THE VIN # DATABASE THAT IS COVERED BY THE RECALL. THIS IS RESULTING IN AN OUT OF POCKET REPAIR COSTING $500. I FIND IT HARDLY COINCIDENTAL THE EXACT SAME DESIGN FLAW THAT AFFECTED NEARLY 500,000 VEHICLES JUST POPPED UP IN MY VEHICLE. WITHOUT SPENDING THE $500, MY BARELY 4 YEAR OLD TRUCK WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION IN THE STATE OF MA. I BOUGHT A TACOMA BASED ON IT'S REPUTATION FOR RELIABILITY. BURNING INTERIOR LENS COVER DUE TO BULB PLACEMENT TO CLOSE TO THE LENS. REMEDY : CHANGING TO A SHORTER BULB WITH LOWER VOLTAGE ( LESS HEAT ) OR LED, WHICH WILL BE POSITIONED AWAY FROM THE LENS. I HAVE BEEN ALWAYS LOVING TOYOTA VEHICLES BUT I BELIEVE DEEPLY IT IS A PRODUCT DEFECT TOYOTA SHOULD REPLACE FREE OF CHARGE FOR THOSE OWNERS. IN ADDITION, AN ENGINEER WAS REFERRED BY THE MANUFACTURER TO PERFORM AN INVESTIGATION RELATED TO THE DEFECT, AND GATHER INFORMATION FROM THE DATA RECORDER. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,500.

THE PLASTIC IS DARK AND LOOKS BURNED. BECAUSE OF THE DEFECT THERE IS CONCERN FOR DRIVER SAFETY AS THERE SEEMS TO BE AN OBVIOUS FIRE HAZARD THAT HAS NOT BEEN ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA. MY 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA X-RUNNER HAS APPROXIMATELY 34,000 MILES AND HAS DTRL (DAY TIME RUNNING LIGHTS) AND THE TURN SIGNALS (WHICH ARE USED FOR THE DTRL) HAVE BURNED, MELTED AND CRACKED. I AM GUESSING THIS IS BECAUSE OF THE LIGHTS ARE RUNNING CONSTANTLY AND THIS IS CAUSING EXCESSIVE HEAT ON THE PLASTIC LENSES. I WILL BE SHOWING A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THIS WEEK, AND IF THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE HEADLIGHTS (I AM OUT OF WARRANTY) THEN I WILL HAVE TO BEAR THESE COSTS TO ENSURE SAFETY FROM POSSIBLE FIRE. I WILL BE LOOKING INTO REMOVING THE DTRL OPTION, AS WELL AS POSSIBLY LOOKING INTO LED BULBS TO CUT DOWN ON THE HEAT. *TR
