TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT HEARD A RATTLING NOISE WHILE DRIVING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHO INSPECTED THE VEHICLE AND STATED THE FAILURE WAS WITHIN THE REAR AXLE RIGHT LEAF SPRING NEAR THE GAS LINE WHICH WAS CORRODED AND HAD BROKE IN HALF. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THE FAILURE WAS NOT A RECALL FOR THE 2009 TACOMA AND WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILES WERE 78,700.
I NOTICED THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHT LENS HAD CRACKED & MELTED. THIS IS OBVIOUSLY A DEFECT DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF HEAT THE BULB IS PUTTING OUT. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT A COMPANY SUCH AS TOYOTA WILL NOT TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. ACCORDING TO WHAT I HAVE READ THE FIX IS OVER $700 TO FIX. IT MAKES YOU WONDER IF GREED IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL. *TR
HEADLIGHT HOUSINGS TURN SIGNAL/DTRL LENS IS BURNED AND CRACKED DUE TO EXCESSIVE HEAT FROM BULB. APPARENTLY FROM WHAT I HAVE READ IN FORUMS AND OTHER ON LINE SOURCES, TOYOTA IS AVOIDING THIS PROBLEM BY SAYING NO REMEDY DUE TO FACTORY WARRANTY EXPIRED OR COMPLETELY DENYING IT. HOWEVER, THEY HAVE MADE AVAILABLE UPGRADED REPLACEMENT PARTS. I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE IN MARCH 2011 AND NOTICED THIS CONDITION RIGHT AFTER PURCHASE. IT HAS NOW WORSENED TO THE POINT THEY NEED TO BE REPLACED. VEHICLE NOW HAS 48,381 MILES. *TR
2009 TOYOTA TACOMA FRONT TURN SIGNALS BURNING LENS. AMBER TURN SIGNAL BULBS APPEAR TO BE TO HIGH OF WATTAGE FROM FACTORY. LENS ARE BUBBLING/MELTING AND DISCOLORING FROM HEAT FROM THE BULBS. DRIVERS SIDE MUST HAVE GOTTEN HOT ENOUGH TO CRACK THE TURN SIGNAL LENS ITSELF. POSSIBLE FIRE HAZARD. A CHECK OF 9 OTHER SIMILAR TACOMA TRUCKS ON HICKAM AFB SHOWS THE SAME PROBLEM WITH 3 OTHER VEHICLES OR 3 TACOMA'S COUNTING MINE. VEHICLE HAS JUST UNDER 20,000 MILES AND NEVER BEEN IN A ACCIDENT. TURN SIGNALS ALSO ACT AS DAYLIGHT RUNNING LIGHTS WHICH ARE TURNED ON WHENEVER TRUCK IS RUNNING. [XXX] ONLY PROPERTY DAMAGE WAS TO THE TRUCK LENS, BURNT/CRACKED. IN A LEFT CLOVERLEAF TURN, APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM SEEMED TO APPLY THE FRONT BRAKES, CAUSING THE TRUCK TO SLIDE UNCONTROLLABLY TO THE RIGHT. SINCE THEN, THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES, IN BOTH DIRECTIONS, AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 15 AND APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH AROUND A CURVE, THE ABS ENGAGED WITHOUT THE BRAKES BEING DEPRESSED. THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED WITH A CHIME AND THEN TURNED OFF. THE FAILURE RECURRED NINE TIMES. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 19,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I STARTED MY TRUCK, OUTSIDE TEMPERATURE 22, PULLED IT INTO MY GARAGE AND PRESSED ON THE BRAKE TO EASE FORWARD AND THE TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP. I PRESSED AS HARD AS I COULD ON THE BRAKE BUT THE TRUCK CONTINUED FORWARD AND HIT THE FRONT WALL OF THE GARAGE. IT FELT LIKE IT WAS TRYING TO CONTINUE DRIVING FORWARD AGAINST THE GARAGE WALL. I PLACED IT INTO PARK AND AFTER CALMING DOWN BACKED IT OFF THE WALL. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE IN REFERENCE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER(09V388000-VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL). AFTER GETTING THE RECALL REPAIRS DONE SHE WAS UNSATISFIED BECAUSE THE FLOOR MATS DO NOT FIT COMFORTABLE AND HER FOOT SLIPS OFF OF THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. SHE ALSO STATES THAT SHE WOULD LIKE FOR THEM TO REVERSE THE REMEDY DUE TO THE PROBLEM THAT SHE EXPERIENCED AT THE TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND THEY INFORMED HER THAT THE GOVERNMENT WILL NOT ALLOW THEM TO REVERSE THE REMEDY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 14,500.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO PARK AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKES, THE VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED AND CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE AND ACCELERATOR PEDALS WERE TOO CLOSE TOGETHER AND SHE HAS SIMULTANEOUSLY DEPRESSED BOTH PEDALS CAUSING THE ABNORMAL ACCELERATION. NEITHER THE DEALER NOR THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 8,000.
WHILE DRIVING MY 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA SPORT PICK-UP TRUCK IN A LOWES HOME IMPROVEMENT CENTER PARKING LOT TODAY (11/27/10 AT 2:25 PM), MY TACOMA BEGAN A VERY RAPID ACCELERATION AS I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW DOWN ROUNDING AN ISLE TURN IN THE LOT AND PREPARING TO PARK THE VEHICLE. I APPLIED IMMEDIATE HEAVY PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE SINCE A TOYOTA PRIUS WAS RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME AND I DID NOT WANT TO HIT IT. DURING MY BRAKING THE REAR TIRE(S) WAS SPINNING AND SCREECHING ON THE PAVEMENT. THE TRUCK MOVED FORWARD ABOUT 5 FEET AND THEN THE MOTOR SHUT OFF AS I WAS REACHING TO TURN OFF THE IGNITION. WHEW! THIS HAPPENED IN ALL OF A SPAN OF MAYBE 4 TO 5 SECONDS. THANK GOD I HAD JUST RECENTLY TAKEN THE TRUCK IN FOR A RECALL WHERE THE DEALER CUT BACK THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL AND INSTALLED NEW SOFTWARE TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE WHEN THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED. THIS NEW SOFTWARE SAVED MY BUTT AND THAT OF THE PRIUS TOO. WHO KNOWS THE DAMAGE THAT MIGHT HAVE BEEN DONE WITHOUT IT. THIS IS MY (THE TACOMA'S) 3RD RAPID ACCELERATION INCIDENT AND 3RD TIME I AM REPORTING TO THE NHTSA. FIRST REPORT WAS ON 12/03/09 ID: 174319. THIS TIME I WAS PARKED WITH THE MOTOR RUNNING. UPON MOVING THE SHIFT LEVER FROM P TO N THE MOTOR RAPIDLY ACCELERATED. SINCE THE CAR WAS IN NEUTRAL I WAS ABLE TO SHUT OFF THE IGNITION. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER THE NEXT DAY AND THEY "FOUND NO PROBLEM". RIGHT! MY SECOND REPORT TO THE NHTSA WAS ON 4/14/10 ODI: 10325627. SAME PROBLEM AS WITH THE FIRST REPORT TO THE NHTSA. I DID NOT TAKE IT TO THE DEALER THIS TIME BECAUSE I KNEW THAT THEY WOULD "NOT FIND ANYTHING." FOR THIS LATEST INCIDENT I AM TAKING THE TRUCK IN ON MONDAY MORNING, 11/29/10 AT THE DEALER'S REQUEST TO ME TODAY. REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE DEALER MAY SAY TO ME OR DOES, I AM GETTING RID OF THE TACOMA. IT HAS BECOME TOO DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I AM LUCKY MY WIFE WAS NOT DRIVING THE TACOMA WHEN THIS LAST INCIDENT HAPPENED. SEE ALSO 10294490 AND 10325627. *DSY *TR
BRAKE PEDAL GOES ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR SOMETIMES. IF YOU PUMP IT THEN IT IS OK. *TR
USING THE CRUISE CONTROL, SET AT 61MPH, CLIMBING A SMALL HILL, THE TRUCK DOWNSHIFTED AT LEAST 3 TIMES, REVVING THE ENGINE TO OVER 5000 RPM. IT STARTLED ME. MY FIRST REACTION WAS TO SHIFT TO NEUTRAL, BUT I KNEW THAT WOULD CAUSE THE ENGINE TO OVER REV. I LIFTED THE CRUISE CONTROL TO SHUT IT OFF, AND THE ENGINE SPEED DROPPED. I DROVE A WHILE WITH THE CRUISE OFF, THEN RETRIED IT. ON THE FIRST HILL THE SAME THING HAPPENED, AND I SHUT OFF THE CRUISE. I TRIED TWO MORE TIMES WITH THE SAME RESULTS. WHEN I DROVE WITH OUT THE CRUISE CONTROL ON, THE ENGINE WOULD DOWN SHIFT ONLY ONE TIME, THEN AT THE TOP OF THE HILL WOULD UPSHIFT, RESUMING THE NORMAL OPERATION. THROUGH OUT THE REST IF MY VISIT TO PA, I DROVE W/O CRUISE CONTROL, AND THERE WERE NO OVER SHIFTING INCIDENTS. ON THE RETURN TRIP TO NC ON THE 26TH, I RESET THE CRUISE, AND UPON CLIMBING A HILL, THE SAME THING HAPPENED. I SHUT OFF THE CRUISE CONTROL UNTIL I GOT OUT OF THE HILLS, AND THEN THE OPERATION SEEMED NORMAL. I HAVE MADE THAT TRIP BEFORE IN THE TRUCK, AND HAD NOTHING LIKE THE EXPERIENCE I JUST MENTIONED. *TR
DAYTIME AMBER RUNNING LIGHTS HAVE MELTED AND CRACKED THE LENS. HAPPEN AROUND 30,000 MILES BUT TOYOTA SAID THEY HAVE NOT HEARD OF PROBLEM, BUT I KNOW BETTER AFTER READING OTHER COMPLAINTS. TO COSTLY FOR THEM TO FIX. MAYBE SAFERCAR.GOV MIGHT HELP. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER BECAUSE HE WAS EXPERIENCING ISSUES WHEN HE WAS SHIFTING GEARS. THE TECHNICIANS MODIFIED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS MODIFIED HE WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH WHEN IT BECAME DIFFICULT FOR HIM TO ENGAGE THE PEDAL. THE DEALER STATED THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE THE PEDAL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 15,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH OR LESS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHO COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE BUT WOULD EVENTUALLY BE ABLE TO RESTART IT. THE DEALER REPLACED A COMPUTER CHIP BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER WHO TOLD HIM THAT THE PROBLEM COULD BE BAD FUEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 25,375. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 14,500.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PLASTIC FOG LIGHT COVER WAS FRACTURED AND BECAME MELTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS WHERE THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE FOG LIGHT COVER WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000.
AT APPX. 24,000 MILES, I NOTICED THAT MY 'DAYTIME' RUNNING LIGHTS WERE CLOUDY AND THAT BOTH LENSES WERE CRACKED. I NEGLECTED TO TAKE IT IN FOR THIS, SINCE I WAS MORE CONCERNED ABOUT THE ENGINE HESITATING ON ACCELERATION. WHEN I FINALLY REMEMBERED TO TELL/SHOW THEM, THEY WEREN'T CONCERNED, BECAUSE THE WARRANTY WAS OUT. THEY DID OFFER TO SPLIT IT WITH ME. MY COST WOULD HAVE BEEN $492.00. SCREW'EM... THIS IS CLEARLY A FACTORY DEFECT. ESPECIALLY WITH AS MANY OF THE SAME COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND FOR THIS. YOU'D THINK THE DOT WOULD DO SOMETHING. *TR
2009 TOYOTA TACOMA AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION SLIPPAGE WHILE TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM LOW SPEED. THIS OCCURS AFTER SLOWING DOWN TO BETWEEN 5 AND 10 MPH. WHEN YOU TRY TO ACCELERATE THE ENGINE REVS UP BETWEEN 500 AND 2000 RPM BUT THE VEHICLE DOES NOT ACCELERATE. I REPORTED THIS SHORTLY AFTER I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AND THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT WAS A KNOWN ISSUE AND ALL THE TACOMA TRANSMISSIONS DID THIS AND IT WAS NORMAL. THE ISSUE STILL OCCURS AND I HAVE ASKED THE DEALER IF TOYOTA HAS A FIX FOR IT EVERY TIME I TAKE THE VEHICLE IN FOR SERVICE AND I AM TOLD THERE IS NO FIX AND THE TRANSMISSION IS WORKING CORRECTLY EVEN THOUGH THE SERVICE ADVISOR SAID HE GET NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER TACOMA OWNER. THIS COULD BE A SERIOUS PROBLEM IF IT HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING AND I AM UNABLE TO ACCELERATE TO AVOID AN EMERGENCY SITUATION. *TR
THIS VEHICLE HAS WHAT I CONSIDER TO BE A BREAK PROBLEM. THE PRESSURE AND LENGTH OF PEDAL DEPRESSION REQUIRED TO STOP THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS. I HAVE TO DEPRESS THE PEDAL TO THE FLOOR IN ORDER TO STOP UNDER AVERAGE DRIVING CONDITIONS. IT ACTUALLY FEELS AS THOUGH THE PEDAL HAS NOT FULLY ENGAGED THE BRAKING SYSTEM WHEN COMPLETELY DEPRESSED. THE LENGTH OF TRAVEL IN THE PEDAL FROM THE POINT WHERE BREAKS INITIALLY ENGAGE AND COMPLETELY STOPS IS EXCESSIVE AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. I HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE IN TO TOYOTA FOR SERVICE AND THEY HAVE INDICATED THAT THE BREAKS ARE WITHIN TOYOTA SPECIFICATIONS AND DO NOT REQUIRE SERVICE.

I HAVE A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA AND WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED FOR EXAMPLE AT A RED LIGHT THE VEHICLE RPM WILL INCREASE AND THE VEHICLE WILL THEN LURCH FORWARD. FORTUNATELY MY FOOT IN ON THE BRAKE. THE VEHICLE ALSO HAS A WHINING NOISE FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE THAT HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED BY TOYOTA REGIONAL REPS AS A WHINING NOISE FROM THE DIFFERENTIAL AT 50 TO 70 MPH. TAKEN BACK 3 TIMES TO DEALER THEY SAY ITS NORMAL BUT I KNOW IT IS NOT. THESE MAY BE 2 SEPARATE ISSUES BUT IT IS CLEAR THAT TOYOTA MAKES IT DIFFICULT FOR IT'S CUSTOMERS TO GET WARRANTY REPAIRS AND IN ACKNOWLEDGING A PROBLEM. TOYOTA SHOULD BE ASHAMED FOR ITS LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE IN FIXING ITS VEHICLES UNTIL PEOPLE GET INJURED. *KB
FRONT LEFT AND RIGHT SIGNAL LIGHT LENS MELTED AND CRACKED. UNIT WAS INSPECTED BY AN AUTHORIZED DEALER AND DETERMINED TO REPLACE BOTH HEADLIGHTS UNDER WARRANTY DUE TO DEFECT LENS. APPROXIMATELY A YEAR LATER LENS MELTED AND CRACKED AGAIN. CALLED TOYOTA TO REPORT AND FIND OUT IF THERE IS A RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE. TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE INITIATED A REPORT AND INFORMED ME THAT THERE IS NOT A RECALLS FOR THIS ISSUE AT THAT TIME AND WILL NOT BE REPLACED DUE TO VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY. AT THIS TIME I AM NOT SURE AT WHAT POINT THIS LENS MELTING; DUE TO THE LIGHT BULB HEAT MAY CAUSE A FIRE AND I AM TAKING UNDER CONSIDERATION TO REMOVE THE SIGNAL LIGHT BULBS WHICH WILL MAKE SIGNAL LIGHTS NONOPERATIONAL. IT HAS TO BE A BAD MANUFACTURE HEADLIGHT DESIGN THAT IS CAUSING THAT AREA TO MELT AND AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE INITIATED FOR RECALL CONSIDERATION. YOUR RESPONSE WILL BE APPRECIATED. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT A WARNING. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO CONTROL THE SPEED AND STOP THE ACCELERATION BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL. ON A SEPARATE OCCASION, WHILE DRIVING IN REVERSE FROM A DRIVEWAY WITH THE BRAKES DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE INDEPENDENTLY ACCELERATED. THE CONTACT HAD TO USE EXTREME FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL TO STOP THE UNINTENDED ACCELERATION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE FAILURE. THE REAR VIEW MIRROR IS TOO LOW AND CAUSES A LARGE BLIND SPOT. THE BLIND SPOT CREATED BY THE LOCATION OF THE REAR VIEW MIRROR HAS CAUSED ME NOT TO BE ABLE TO SEE SEVERAL VEHICLES CROSSING IN FRONT OF ME. THIS IS MOST PROMINENT WHEN APPROACHING AN INTERSECTION AND A VEHICLE IS APPROACHING FROM MY RIGHT. I HAVE FOUND THAT I MUST ACTUALLY DUCK DOWN AND LOOK AROUND MY MIRROR WHEN APPROACHING INTERSECTIONS IN ORDER TO SEE ALL APPROACHING TRAFFIC. *TR
THE REAR SPRINGS STARTED SQUEAKING ABOUT 19,000 MILES. WHEN PULLING A TRAILER VEHICLE SWAYS BADLY. WITH 600 LBS OF WEIGHT IN BED, VEHICLE SITS REALLY LOW. *TR
THE DAYTIME RUNNING LIGHTS (DRL'S) ON MY 2009 TACOMA HAVE BUBBLED UP AND CRACKED THE LENS/PLASTIC. I AM NOT SURE IF THIS IS BECAUSE THE BULB IS TOO CLOSE TO THE PLASTIC OR THE WATTAGE IS TOO HIGH FOR THE PLASTIC. THE DRL'S ARE ALSO USED AS FRONT END TURN SIGNALS. IF THESE FAIL, IT COULD BE A MAJOR SAFETY HAZARD. DEALERSHIP DENIED TO PAY FOR REPLACEMENT FOR IT IS NOT COVERED UNDER THE AGREEMENTS OF MY EXTENDED WARRANTY. *TR
TODAY I WAS ON RT 50 IN WESTERN FAIRFAX COUNTY, VA STOPPED AND WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT HAND TURN ONTO CENTREVILLE RD. ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TOYOTA TACOMA 09 SURGED FORWARD AND GENTLY HIT THE STOPPED FULL SIZE TRUCK IN FRONT OF ME. THE GENTLEMEN IN THE FULL SIZE TRUCK GOT OUT AND SAW NO DAMAGE ON HIS TRUCK. I HAD SOME MINOR SCRATCHES ON THE FRONT BUMPER AND ON THE FRONT LICENSE PLATE. NO ONE WAS HURT SO WE DID NOT REPORT ANYTHING. SEATBELT INERTIA REEL LOCKS UP UNDER NORMAL (NON EMERGENCY) DRIVING MANEUVERS, SUCH AS NORMAL STOPS, LOW SPEED CURVES, ETC. SEAT BELT WILL NOT UNLOCK, THEREBY PINNING DRIVER TO SEAT. DRIVER IS TRAPPED IN SEAT FOR SEVERAL MOMENTS UNTIL SEATBELT DECIDES TO RELEASE. THIS IS A PROBLEM BECAUSE, WHILE PINNED TO SEAT, DRIVER CANNOT LEAN FORWARD TO LOOK OUT WINDOWS AND MIRRORS--WHICH OFTEN NEED TO BE DONE QUICKLY TO MAINTAIN SITUATIONAL AWARENESS. I BACKED OUT OF THE PARKING SPACE IN REVERSE, CAME TO A STOP, AND THEN MOVED THE SHIFT LEVER DOWN TOWARDS DRIVE. WHEN THE SHIFT INDICATOR REACHED NEUTRAL THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY BEGAN TO ACCELERATE RAPIDLY UP TO 4,500 RPM. THIS TIME I WAITED ABOUT 10 SECONDS AND THEN THE ENGINE WOUND BACK DOWN TO NORMAL IDLE. MY FOOT WAS ONLY ON THE BRAKE, NOT THE GAS PEDAL, AND THERE IS NO FLOOR MAT PROBLEM. DURING THE DEC-09 INCIDENT I DID NOT WAIT FOR THE ENGINE TO SLOW DOWN. I JUST TURNED OFF THE IGNITION. I HAVE AN '09 TOYOTA TACOMA EXTRA CAB. WHEN I EXIT THE VEHICLE THE SEAT BELT GETS CAUGHT ON MY SHOULDER AND TWISTS IN SUCH A WAY AS TO NOT RETRACT PROPERLY. IF I THEN OPEN THE REAR DOOR, THE BELT WILL ALWAYS GET TRAPPED BY THE BOTTOM OF THE REAR DOOR WHEN I CLOSE IT. SINCE THE BELT IS NOT IN THE PROPER PLACE AND NOT SECURED BY THE PROPER ANCHOR POINT I FEEL THAT IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT THE SEAT BELT WILL NOT BE ABLE TO HOLD MY HIPS IN THE SEAT AND RESULT IN MY SLIDING UNDER THE BELT. UNINTENDED ACCELERATION IN A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE SHIFTING FROM THE 3RD TO 4TH GEAR, THE ENGINE STAYED AT HIGH SPEED EVEN THOUGH MY FOOT WAS OFF ACCELERATOR PEDAL. 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA GAS PEDAL STUCK ON FREEWAY ON OUR 16 YEAR OLD SON. WE HAD TAUGHT HIM FROM SEEING TOYOTA ON THE NEWS TO PUT IT IN NEUTRAL AND GET TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WHICH HE DID SUCCESSFULLY. I EXPERIENCED A CASE OF UNCONTROLLABLE ACCELERATION IN MY 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. IT OCCURRED ON FEB 25, 2010. I STARTED MY VEHICLE IN MY GARAGE NORMALLY. MY FOOT IS ON THE BRAKE. I LET IT IDLE FOR A SHORT WHILE UNTIL THE IDLE RATE WENT UNDER 1500 RPMS. I SHIFTED IT INTO REVERSE AND THE IDLE SPEED WENT UNDER 1000 RPMS. FOOT IS STILL ON THE BRAKE. I LET IT BACK OUT OF THE GARAGE ONTO THE DRIVEWAY AND THEN ONTO THE STREET TURNING THE WHEEL PARTIALLY TO ALIGN MYSELF INTO THE STREET TO BEGIN TO DRIVE AWAY. FOOT IS STILL ON THE BRAKE WHEN I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE. AS SOON AS I SHIFTED INTO DRIVE IT ACCELERATED UNCONTROLLABLY. MY FOOT IS STILL ON THE BRAKE , BUT I REALIZE THAT THE BRAKE WILL NOT STOP IT. I HAD TO MAKE A QUICK TURN TO AVOID RUNNING ONTO THE CURB/MAILBOX AND THEN I QUICKLY SHIFTED IT INTO NEUTRAL TO BRING IT TO A STOP. IT CAME TO A STOP AND I LOOK DOWN AT THE TRANSMISSION AND I ACTUALLY SHIFTED IT THROUGH NEUTRAL INTO REVERSE. BUT, IT AT LEAST WAS STOPPED. I CONTACTED MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IN AMES, IA AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN AND THEY WOULD TAKE A LOOK AT IT. I TOOK IT IN ON MAR 4, 2010. THEY SAID THEY RAN ALL SORTS OF DIAGNOSTICS ON IT AND IT CHECKED OUT FINE. THEY SAID THEY CONTACTED TOYOTA AND OPENED UP A CASE NUMBER AND WOULD LET ME KNOW WHEN THEY KNEW SOMETHING MORE. MY VEHICLE WAS ON THE FLOOR MAT RECALL, BUT THE SAME DEALER LOOKED AT IT LAST YEAR AND SAID THE FLOOR MAT WAS FINE. IT WAS NOT ON THE FOOT PEDAL RECALL. I BELIEVE THIS IS AN ELECTRONIC PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA IS TRYING TO HIDE WITH THESE OTHER RECALLS. I HAVE NO CONFIDENCE THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL NOT OCCUR AGAIN AND BELIEVE TOYOTA NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS ASAP. *TR

THIS IS MY SECOND COMPLAINT CONCERNING MY 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE OTHER WAS A TRANSMISSION PROBLEM, HOWEVER, THIS FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE WAS DIFFERENT. I WAS DOING ABOUT 65MPH ON THE EXPRESSWAY WHEN I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR. THE TRUCK DID NOT ACCELERATE, BUT INSTEAD THE ENGINE REVVED UP VERY HIGH. THE RPM'S DROPPED WHEN I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR. I WAS SO FRIGHTENED THAT I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. I AM NOW AFRAID TO DRIVE MY TOYOTA, BUT I MUST DRIVE IT TO GET TO WORK. I HAVE 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB 4X4 V6. I ALSO HAD 2008 MODEL OF THE SAME VEHICLE. BOTH THESE VEHICLES SHARED A COMMON NEGATIVE CHARACTERISTIC. THE ENGINES HAVE SUDDEN RPM INCREASES THAT ARE SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH TO PROPEL THE VEHICLES FORWARD. THIS USUALLY OCCURS WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED AND THE TRANSMISSION IS IN THE DRIVE POSITION , AT A RED LIGHT FOR INSTANCE. ADDITIONAL PRESSURE MUST BE APPLIED TO THE BRAKES TO MAINTAIN CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THIS PROBLEM WAS IDENTICAL ON BOTH TACOMAS. *TR
PURCHASED NEW TOYOTA TACOMA TRD SPORT IN AUG 2009 WITH ZERO MILES. ALL SEEMED OK, OTHER THAN A FEW FRUSTRATING CAB RATTLES HERE AND THERE. HOWEVER, I ALSO NOTICED THAT AS MY TRUCK NEARED MORE MILES (7,000 CURRENT), I NOW HAVE TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL A BIT HARDER, YET WHEN I BROUGHT THIS UP TO THE DEALER, THEY STATED ALL WAS NORMAL AND COULD NOT REPLICATE. I'VE HAD A COUPLE OF INSTANCES WHERE I'VE HAD TO PRESS THE BRAKE PRETTY HARD TO COME TO A STOP OR SLOW DOWN. IT SEEMS I NEED TO RIDE IT A LITTLE HARDER THAN WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT MY TRUCK. I ALSO WANT TO ADD, THAT BESIDES THE IRRITATING RATTLES (DOOR PANELS/TRAY HOLDER IN CENTER CONSOLE BELOW THE STEERING WHEEL - WHICH WAS REPLACED, BUT STILL MAKE POP SOUNDS HERE AND THERE, THE OTHER SMALLER RATTLES - SOME OF WHICH WERE COMING FROM ILL-FIT WINDOW SEALS WERE NOT REALLY FIXED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE SEALS AND THE POPPING SOUNDS STOPPED FOR A DAY OR SO THEN RETURNED. I FOUND THE PROBLEM IS THE SEALS TEND TO BE SOMEWHAT IMPROPER FIT. IN OTHER WORDS, THEY ARE TOO LARGE AND CAUSE THE RUBBING. I PERSONALLY CORRECTED THIS BY REMOVING ALL DOOR PANELS ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT SOME OF THE RATTLE SOUNDS I HAD COMPLAINED ABOUT MERELY HAD A SMALL PIECE OF FELT ON THE BACKSIDE, WHICH DID NOT COMPLETELY CURE THE PROBLEM. I PURCHASED AN ENTIRE ROLL OF THIS MATERIAL MYSELF AND COATED THE INSIDE OF EACH DOOR PANEL THEN ADDED A SMALL PIECE OF WEATHER STRIPPING TO THE INSIDE OF DOOR PANEL EDGE WHERE IT TOUCHES THE GLASS WINDOW. THIS HELPED CONSIDERABLY IN REDUCING AIR NOISE AND NO MORE RATTLING. MY COMPLAINT IS STILL WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL SOMETIMES, NOT ALWAYS, NEEDING TO BE PUSHED HARDER THAN NORMAL TO COME TO STOP OR SLOW DOWN. ON OTHER THING I ADDRESSED WITH THE DEALER WAS THE FACT THAT WHEN I SLOW DOWN AND MAKE TURN, NOT COMPLETE STOP AND GO, MY ENGINE RPM'S DON'T DECELERATE QUICKLY ENOUGH FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO CATCH UP. DEALER STATES THIS IS NORMAL OPERATING RPMS CATCHING DOWN TO SHIFT DOWN OF TRANNY. *TR
