Frame is rusted out under engine above axle housing.
I have a 2009 Toyota Tacoma that has a significant amount of frame rust. I have recently learned that Toyota lost a class action lawsuit on this model of Tacoma because the frames would rot quickly. I was not aware of this recall, nor was I notified and because of that I missed the 12-year windows for Toyota to replace the frame. Toyota's Owner app made no mention of this either. The only recall that I received was an issue with leaf springs which I had corrected when the parts came in. I'd like to know what I can do to have my truck's frame replaced, or something comparable.
Went for an inspection and entire frame is completely rotting out. Could have ben killed. Truck only has 65,000 miles on it because it was previously owned by my 80 year old grandfather. Toyota should have to fix everyone of these issues not just a certain time frame.
frame and leaf spring rusting badly. if the frame or leaf spring brakes while driving will cause accident and possible fire from hitting by fuel tank putting my life and the lives of others in truck as well as persons near truck. I had truck in for tire rotation in 8/2022 problem was reported. frame starting to rust badly will not be able to lift vehicle from the frame soon. no warning has been reported. vehicle has been recalled. No recall was sent to me about problem now the company will not fix
The chassis of my truck is rusting through. I took it to the dealership and was told that the recall for the vehicle chassis expired in 2019. I told them I was not aware of the recall. They then told me the recall was extended until 2021. I told them I brought the vehicle in for a recall repair in 2020 and asked that they check for all recalled repairs. They said they couldn't help me and directed me to the manufacturer. I called Toyota and they claimed that I was ineligible for a recall. Every repair shop I've gone to told me that this is a very common defect with Toyota and everyone gets it resolved through recall. Please assist me.
The contact owns a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated while the vehicle was at a local dealer they informed the contact that their vehicle frame was rusted and needed to be replaced. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with, NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V604000 (SUSPENSION) however the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was informed of failure and told the contact that they were unable to assist. The failure mileage was approximately 75,000.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO FRANKFORT TOYOTA (1001 LEESTOWN RD, FRANKFORT, KY 40601, (502) 695-1500), BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT ASSIST. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 108,000. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN.

THE PARTS TO DO THE REPAIR WERE UNAVAILABLE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED AND DIAGNOSED, AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE AND WAS ABLE TO CONFIRM THAT THE PARTS WERE ORDERED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 204,333. PARTS DISTRIBUTION DISCONNECT.

WAITED FOR 2 YEARS AND FINALLY GOT CALLED FROM THE DEALER. TODAY I WAS TOLD THAT THE TECHNICIAN WILL INSPECT IT AND IF IN NEED WILL ORDER THE PART. THE MANUFACTURER IN THE RECALL LETTER PROMISE TO REPLACE THE LEAF SPRINGS, THE DEALER WILL REPLACE THEM ONLY IF NEEDED.

NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 14VG-604 I OWN A 2009 TOYOTA TACOMA. CURRENTLY THERE IS A RECALL ON MY TRUCK. NHTSA RECALL NUMBER 14VG-604. I TOOK MY TRUCK INTO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE PART REPLACED FOR THE RECALL. TOYOTA STATED THEY WERE UNABLE TO REPAIR THE PARTS FOR THE RECALL BECAUSE THE TRUCK HAS AFTERMARKET PARTS ON IT. THEY STATED THAT IT WOULD COST ME AN ADDITIONAL 160 FOR THE U-BOLTS TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO REPAIR THE RECALL. I CALLED AND SPOKE WITH THE NATIONAL DOT AND TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE, TO SEE IF THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO REPAIR AND REPLACE ALL THE PARTS NEEDED AT NO COST TO ME BUT WERE UNABLE TO PREFORM THE REPAIR. I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT DUE TO THE FACT OF A SAFETY CONCERN.

NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: OPENS NEW WINDOW TAKES AWAY FROM VIN LOOKUP SECTION> 14V604 RECALL DATE: SEPTEMBER 29, 2014 MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: E02 SUMMARY: THE SUBJECT VEHICLES? REAR SUSPENSION SYSTEM CONTAINS LEAF SPRINGS THAT ARE CONSTRUCTED OF EITHER THREE OR FOUR LEAVES. THERE IS A POSSIBILITY THAT A LEAF COULD FRACTURE DUE TO STRESS AND CORROSION. IF THIS OCCURS AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO BE OPERATED, THE BROKEN LEAF COULD MOVE OUT OF POSITION AND CONTACT SURROUNDING COMPONENTS, INCLUDING THE FUEL TANK. SAFETY RISK: IF THE BROKEN LEAF CONTACTS THE FUEL TANK REPEATEDLY, IT COULD PUNCTURE THE TANK AND CAUSE A FUEL LEAK. IN THE PRESENCE OF AN IGNITION SOURCE, THIS COULD RESULT IN A FIRE. MY 09 TACOMA VIBRATED AT CERTAIN SPEEDS AND SLIGHTLY SWERVED GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY CAUSING INSTABILITY AND LACK OF CONTROL. ALSO HEARD SOME CLANKING IN THE REAR END. UPON EXAMINATION THE REAR LEAF SPRINGS IN BOTH SIDES WERE BROKEN. ACCORDING TO THE MECHANIC ONE SPRING WAS ACTUALLY RUBBING THE TIRE . TOYOTA HAD NUMEROUS RECALLS FOR TACOMA REAR LEAF SPRINGS BECAUSE THEY WERE BREAKING. HOWEVER, WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA THEY TOLD ME MY VEHICLE CAME FROM A DIFFERENT PLANT AND DID NOT QUALIFY. I NEVER ABUSED THIS VEHICLE NO REASON FOR THIS ISSUE THEY SHOULD ADD THIS PLANT TO THE RECALL LIST TO AVOID ACCIDENT AND INJURY. I SHOULD DISCLOSE THAT I HAD TWO BAD WHEEL BEARINGS AS WELL WHICH MAY HAVE RESULTED FROM THE STRESS CAUSED BY THE LEAF SPRINGS. JUST DON'T KNOW. I CONTACTED TOYOTA ON 8/10/16 TO REPORT A BROKEN LEAF SPRING (CURRENTLY ON A RECALL LIST). THE REP WAS FRIENDLY, BUT I WAS TOLD I HAD TO GO TO A DEALER TO HAVE IT REPLACED. THE TRANSFERRED ME TO THE DEALER AND THEN TO THE PARTS OFFICE WHO TOLD ME THAT IT WOULD TAKE 6 WEEKS TO GET THE PART. ONE OF THE PROBLEMS ASSOCIATED WITH THIS RECALL IS THAT THERE IS A CHANCE THAT THE BROKEN LEAF SPRING MOVES AND HITS THE GAS TANK AND CAUSES A FIRE. WHEN I ASKED IF I COULD TAKE IT TO A LEAF SPRING REPLACEMENT COMPANY, I WAS TOLD THAT I COULD, BUT TOYOTA MAY NOT REIMBURSE ME. THEN IN THE NEXT BREATH, THE REP TELLS ME HOW IMPORTANT TOYOTA PUTS SAFETY. REALLY? THEY WANT ME TO DRIVE AROUND FOR 6 WEEKS AND TAKE A CHANCE IN CAUSING A FIRE IN MY VEHICLE INSTEAD OF TAKING IT TO A KNOWLEDGEABLE REPAIR COMPANY.
I AM STILL WAITING FOR A SOLUTION TO THE DEFECTIVE LEAF SPRING REPLACEMENT ISSUE WITH MY VEHICLE. TOYOTA HAS NEGLECTED PROVIDE AN UPDATE OR REPLACEMENT LEAF-SPRING SOLUTION TO THE NOTED ISSUE.
