TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT 60MPH THE VEHICLE BECAME HARD TO CONTROL, IT SWERVED AND A NOISE COULD BE HEARD COMING FROM THE FRONT END. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO DEALER NUMEROUS TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE FRONT SHOCK ABSORBER, THE INSULATORS, AND THE RETAINING CUSHING; THESE PARTS WERE REPLACED SEVERAL TIMES. THE FAILURE WAS CORRECTED, HOWEVER HE IS NOW EXPERIENCING THE FAILURE AT THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WILL BE TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER TO BE DIAGNOSED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 4,600 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT THE DRIVER SIDE SEAT BELT WAS LOOSE AND WHEN IT WAS RELEASED, THE SEAT BELT FLUNG ACROSS THE BODY CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE DOOR PANEL. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT FILED A REPORT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 7,000. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 2,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
2010 TACOMA CREW CAB WITH 10,000 MILES, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION. WHEN THE VEHICLE IS WARM (DRIVEN) AND STOPPED (AT A LIGHT OR STOP SIGN), WHEN THE ACCELERATOR IS PRESSED TO BEGIN DRIVING AGAIN THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT ALWAYS ENGAGE IMMEDIATELY. THERE ARE TIMES IT TAKES TWO TO THREE SECONDS FOR THE TRANSMISSION TO 'CATCH' AND THE TRUCK TO BEGIN MOVING. YOU CAN HEAR THE ENGINE REV UP BUT THE TRUCK WILL NOT MOVE. PRESSING HARDER ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GET THE TRUCK TO MOVE DOES NOTHING BUT REV THE ENGINE, AND WHEN THE TRANSMISSION DOES CATCH THE VEHICLE CAN LURCH FORWARD RAPIDLY ACCELERATING. THIS SITUATION CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE NOT 'READY' FOR IT. *TR
WHILE DRIVING IN NORTHERN KENTUCKY ON A SLIGHT INCLINE IN HILLY COUNTRY SOUTHBOUND ON I-75, I DISENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL WHEN A VEHICLE PULLED IN FRONT OF ME. WHEN VEHICLE MOVED OFF THE HIGHWAY ABOUT 15 SECONDS LATER, I RE-ENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL (AT APPROX 65 MPH) AT WHICH POINT THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN TO OVER 85 MPH. I THEN DISENGAGED CRUISE CONTROL AND THE VEHICLE NORMALLY DECELERATED. THE EXACT SAME THING HAPPENED TWO (2) MONTHS EARLIER WHILE TRAVELING ON AN INTERSTATE IN NORTH CAROLINA UNDER THE SAME CIRCUMSTANCES (ELEVATION AROUND 2500-3000 FT ON AN INCLINE). I REPORTED THIS TO THE TOYOTA DEALER LAST WEEK AND THEY SAID THERE IS A RECALL TO "REFLASH THE COMPUTER" ON MY 2010 TACOMA V6. I HAVE SEEN NO REFERENCE TO SUCH A RECALL ON TOYOTAS WEBSITE FOR MY VIN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED ON THE RPMS INCREASED AND THE ENGINE MADE A LOUD NOISE. THE VEHICLE FELT AS IF IT WAS GOING TO SUDDENLY ACCELERATE UNTIL THE CONTACT PLACED HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE FROM ACCELERATING. THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF. THE FAILURE WAS EXPERIENCED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER SEVERAL TIMES FOR THE FAILURE. THE DEALER TEST DROVE AND DIAGNOSED THE VEHICLE; THE FAILURE COULDN'T BE DUPLICATED AND A DIAGNOSTIC CODE WASN'T LOCATED. THE MANUFACTURER SENT AN ENGINEER TO THE DEALERSHIP AND WAS ALSO UNABLE LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 10,000. UPDATED 02/11/11 *BF UPDATED 08/29/11
VEHICLE IGNITION FAULTY. AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, IT WOULD NOT START, WOULD NOT TURN OVER, THE STEERING WHEEL WAS LOCKED IN PLACE. I FEAR THAT THIS ISSUE, WORKING SOMETIMES, OTHER TIMES NOT WORKING, CAN FAIL WHILE I'M DRIVING, LEAVING ME TO TRY TO OPERATE A VEHICLE WITHOUT POWER AND A LOCKED STEERING COLUMN. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO A LOCAL DEALER, NO PROBLEMS WERE FOUND, THOUGH THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP BECAUSE IT WAS DISABLED. *TR
INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) WE RECENTLY PURCHASED A NEW 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. ON ITS FIRST LONG DISTANCE TRIP, WITH LESS THAT 2000 MILES ON THE VEHICLE AND BARELY A MONTH OLD, THE REAR FACTORY INSTALLED HIGH PERFORMANCE BILSTEIN REAR SHOCKS GOT SO HOT THAT THE OIL SPRAYED OUT OF THE TOP SEAL MELTING THE BOOTS AND GETTING THEM SO HOT THE PLASTIC MATERIAL DRIPPED DOWN AND COATED THE CONNECTION TO THE REAR AXLE. THE SHOCKS COMPLETELY FAILED AT THAT POINT. WHEN I TOOK IT INTO TOYOTA OF ORANGE, IN ORANGE CALIFORNIA WHERE WE PURCHASED THE VEHICLE, THEY INFORMED ME THERE WAS A BULLETIN OUT ON THE REAR SPRINGS. THEY REPLACED BOTH THE SPRINGS AND THE SHOCKS. I HAVE WRITTEN THEM SEVERAL TIMES TO FIND OUT WHETHER THE SHOCKS WERE FAULTY, OR IF IT WAS A REAR SPRING ISSUE, OR JUST A POOR DESIGN WITH THE VEHICLE, BUT HAVE NOT HEARD BACK FROM THEM TO DATE. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN FOR THE VEHICLE IS UNSTABLE WHEN THE SHOCKS FAILED. WE ARE TRYING TO GET AN ANSWER AS TO WHY THIS VEHICLE, WITH BOTH FACTORY INSTALLED OFF-ROAD AND TOW PACKAGES, FAILED WITH ONLY A COUPLE HUNDRED POUNDS IN THE BED. IT MAY BE A REAL SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM IF THIS OCCURS WHEN WE HAVE A LOAD IN THE BED OR A PULLING A TRAILER. ALSO, YOU MAY WANT TO CONTACT TOYOTA AND FIND OUT WHY THIS HAPPENED. IF IT IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM WITH THIS VEHICLE, THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL OUT AND NOT JUST A BULLETIN TO PREVENT SOMEONE FROM GETTING SERIOUSLY INJURED. 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. LETTER FROM SENATOR ON BEHALF OF CONSTITUENT RE THEIR CONCERNS WITH AN UNEXPECTED ACCELERATION ISSUE WITH THEIR TOYOTA TRUCK. *KB AS THE CONSUMER WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE TRUCK LURCHED FORWARD WITH FULL ACCELERATION WHICH REQUIRED HER/HIM TO USE BOTH FEET TO FULLY DEPRESS ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHICH CAUSED THE TRUCK TO STOP IN PLACE WHILE THE REAR TIRES CONTINUED TO SPIN WITH FULL ACCELERATION. THE CONSUMER THEN PUT THE VEHICLE INTO PARK AND SHUT OFF THE IGNITION. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER FOR AN ANALYSIS. *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN A PARKING LOT, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED FORWARD. SHE PRESSED BOTH OF HER FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE TIRES WERE SPINNING. SHE SHIFTED INTO PARK, TURNED OFF THE IGNITION AND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALERSHIP. SHE WAS AWAITING FEEDBACK AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. SHE HAD NOT EXPERIENCED ANY ACCELERATION PROBLEMS PRIOR TO THIS FAILURE. SHE CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND REPORTED THE PROBLEM. THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AS THE CONSUMER WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. SHE HELD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE, AS THE ENGINE REVVED AND THE TIRES WERE SPINNING. SHE ENDED UP GOING ON CURB INTO A SNOW BANK. SHE PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND THE ENGINE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE UNTIL SHE TURNED THE IGNITION OFF. A MODIFICATION WAS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE IN JUNE 2010 AND THE DEALER ASSURED THE CONSUMER IT WOULD RECTIFY ANY UNCONTROLLED ACCELERATION. UPDATED 03/18/11*JB

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE FROM A TRAFFIC STOP, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED SIMULTANEOUSLY AS THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED THAT THE TWO PEDALS WERE TOO CLOSE IN PROXIMITY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND A COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED ANY ASSISTANCE TO THE CONTACT. THE DEALER WAS ALSO CONTACTED BUT REFUSED TO ASSIST THE CONTACT. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 5 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,500. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE DRIVER STATED THAT SHE WAS AT A STOP SIGN WITH HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED INTO AN INTERSECTION. THE DRIVER ALSO STATED THAT SHE HAD BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL BUT THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT STOP. THE DRIVER HAD TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND TURN THE ENGINE OFF IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A TOYOTA DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING DIAGNOSED BY THE DEALER WHEN THE COMPLAINT WAS FILED. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,100.
2010 TOYOTA TACOMA DOUBLE CAB PRE-RUNNER, I HAVE EXPERIENCE A SUDDEN JERK (LIKE OTHER CAR HAS HIT ME ON THE REAR) WHILE I WAS STOPPED AND THE BRAKE WAS PRESSED WHILE WAITING AT THE TRAFFIC LIGHT. IT HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIME FOR FIVE DAYS AFTER I BROUGHT MY TRUCK TO THE DEALERSHIP TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM, WHICH THEY SAID THAT THERE IS NO PROBLEM AND IT IS JUST BECAUSE THE TACOMA HAS A SEQUENTIAL TYPE OF TRANSMISSION.. *TR
MY 2010 TACOMA, WHILE SITTING AT A STOP LIGHT, SUDDENLY SURGES AS IF SOMEBODY HIT THE GAS OR SLAMMED ME IN THE REAR. IT HASN'T PUSHED ME BEYOND MY BRAKES BUT IT IS VERY DISTURBING. I REPORTED THIS TO THE TOYOTA DEALER AND THEY SAID THEY COULDN'T REPRODUCE IT. IT DOESN'T HAPPEN WITH ANY REGULARITY, IT JUST HAPPENS OUT OF THE BLUE. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN YOU GO TO VERY LOW SPEEDS AND MAKE A SHARP TURN THE RPMS JUMP TO ABOUT 3,000 AND THEN IT FEELS LIKE THE TRANSMISSION KICKS IN. THIS WAS ALSO REPORTED TO THE DEALER WHO SAID IT WAS BY DESIGN BUT IF IT IS IT IS POOR DESIGN. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE DRIVER STATED THAT HE WAS DRIVING IN A LARGE PARKING LOT AT APPROXIMATELY 2 MPH INTO A PARKING SPACE. THE DRIVER WAS COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, AND ENGAGED THE BRAKE PEDAL WHEN THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN AND CRASHED INTO A CONCRETE COLUMN. HE WAS NOT INJURED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,200.
THE VEHICLE SURGES UNEXPECTEDLY. ONE OR MORE TIMES A DAY, DEPENDING ON TRAVEL NEEDS, I EXPERIENCE SURGES BOTH AT COMPLETE STOPS AND WHEN ACCELERATING. DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL FROM A STOP OR ROLL INCLUDES A "DELAY" IN RESPONSE FROM THE VEHICLE, THEN THE UNEXPECTED SURGE IS NOTICED. GENERALLY, A SMALL AMOUNT OF PRESSURE ON THE PEDAL DOES NOT YIELD A DESIRED ACCELERATION EFFECT, INSTEAD A "WAIT AND GO" EFFECT IS EXPERIENCED. SEVERAL TIMES, THIS DELAY HAS CAUSED NEAR MISSES IN TERMS OF ACCIDENTS. EXPECTING THE VEHICLE TO RESPOND TO ACCELERATOR PRESSURE BUT NOT GETTING ACCELERATION IS CONSIDERED HAZARDOUS. SURGING FORWARD VIOLENTLY WHEN AT A COMPLETE STOP IS ANOTHER CONCERN. WITH THE BRAKES COMPLETELY DEPRESSED, THE VEHICLE WILL SURGE FORWARD AT MOST TRAFFIC LIGHTS OR DURING STOP AND GO TRAFFIC. THIS VEHICLE WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALER A WEEK AFTER PURCHASE WITH MY CONCERNING OF SHIFTING AND SOMETIME ERRATIC BEHAVIOR. THE DEALERSHIP DID LITTLE MORE THAN TAKE A SHORT TEST DRIVE WITH ME (NO DIAGNOSTICS, NO FORMAL OR MECHANICAL EVALUATION), AND TELL ME NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE TRUCK. THE TRUCK HAD LESS THAN 1000 MILES ON IT, NOW WITH 2600 MILES, THE PROBLEMS PERSIST. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA PICKUP TRUCK. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 25 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL (VSC) WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL IMMEDIATELY AFTER STALLING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER AND THEY ADVISED HIM THAT RODENTS CRAWLED INTO THE VEHICLE AND WERE CHEWING ON THE WIRES UNDERNEATH THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ALSO STATED THAT HE FOUND A RODENT "NEST" IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND THAT HE SHOULD CONTACT SOMEONE TO TAKE CARE OF THE PEST PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT ASSIST. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT HAS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE IN FOUR WHEEL DRIVE THE VEHICLE HAD A SUDDEN ACCELERATION. THE CONTACT WAS GOING 10 MPH AND STOPPING AT A STOP SIGN AND THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AND SHOT THROUGH THE ENTER SECTION. THIS IS THE ONLY TIME THE FAILURE HAPPENED. I WAS GOING ABOUT 30 MPH WHEN I HAD TO STOP BEHIND THE CAR IN FRONT THAT HAD STOPPED. STEPPED ON THE BRAKE, THE CAR STOPPED & THEN JERKED FORWARD. CAME CLOSE TO HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT. *TR
MY TACOMA 2010 SEEMS TO SLIP OUT OF GEAR GOING AROUND CORNERS -- AFTER I'VE SLOWED DOWN TO ROUND THE CORNER THE TRUCK REVS HIGH WHEN THE GAS PEDAL IS DEPRESSED AGAIN. AFTER A FEW SECONDS IT LURCHES FORWARD WHEN IT FINALLY GETS INTO GEAR. THIS PROBLEM OCCURS AT ALMOST ALL CORNERS, BUT NOT FROM A STOPPED POSITION. I DO NO THINK THE CORNER CAUSES THE PROBLEM, IT'S JUST THAT THE TRUCK IS DOWNSHIFTING, THEN UP-SHIFTING AGAIN. I NOTICED THIS BEHAVIOR WITHIN THE FIRST WEEK I HAD THE TRUCK, AND IT HAS BEEN GETTING WORSE EVER SINCE. I TOOK IT INTO A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHO SAID THEY APPLIED A SOFTWARE PATCH AND THAT IT IS NOW "FIXED." THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THE TRUCK'S COMPUTER DOES NOT SHOW ANY PROBLEM "CODES" THAT WOULD INDICATE A PROBLEM. I WILL PICK UP THE TRUCK TOMORROW, SO I DON'T KNOW AT THIS TIME IF IT INDEED HAS BEEN FIXED. *TR
THE TRACTION CONTROL ON MY 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA DOES NOT WORK. IT DOES NOT REDUCE THE THROTTLE AS IT IS SUPPOSED TO. WHEN ON A PATCH OF ICE OR SLICK ROAD THE TIRES AND THROTTLE JUST CONTINUE TO ENGAGE. THE STABILITY CONTROL FINALLY ENGAGES BUT STILL DOES NOT REDUCE THE THROTTLE RESPONSE. *TR
MY 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA ENGINE TRY TO ACCELERATE BY IT SELF WHILE STOP AT A RED LIGHT. MY WIFE HELD HER FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO KEEP IT FROM RUNNING INTO THE INTERSECTION THE TIRE WERE SPINNING WHILE IT WAS SITTING STILL.ALSO MY TRANSMISSION SEEMS TO SLIP WHEN I GIVE IT GAS BETWEEN 8 TO 12 MPH. I TOLD THE TOYOTA DEALER ABOUT IT HE SAID THAT HE HASN'T RECEIVED ANY REPORTS FROM TOYOTA ON THESE TWO PROBLEMS HE DIDN'T SEEM TO INTERESTED IN MY PROBLEM. *TR
THE TRANSMISSION, WHILE DRIVING, HAS A JERKY SHIFTING MOTION. ADDITIONALLY, WHEN STOPPED AT LETS SAY A RED LIGHT, THE TRANSMISSION PRIOR TO DRIVING AWAY, WILL SEEM LIKE IT ENGAGES WITH AN EXTREME JERKING MOTION, ALMOST FEELING LIKE YOU'VE BEEN REAR ENDED.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THE TAIL GATE FAILED TO LATCH OR LOCK, CAUSING IT TO OPEN INDEPENDENTLY WITHOUT ANY WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE APPROXIMATELY WAS 100.
2010 TOYOTA TACOMA 6CYL. - WHEN STOPPED AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS AND THE HEATER OR AIR CONDITIONER IS ON, THE TRUCK LUNGES FORWARD INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THIS HAPPENS, IT FEELS LIKE SOMEONE HAS HIT ME FROM BEHIND. NO ONE IS THERE AND THE RPM GAUGE HAS GONE FROM THE NORMAL 0.5 RPMS TO 1 RPM ON ITS OWN. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING THIS PROBLEM AND I FIND THAT IT ONLY HAPPENS WHEN THE HEATER OR AIR CONDITIONER IS ON. IT DOES NOT HAPPEN WHEN THESE COMPONENTS ARE OFF. HAPPENED ABOUT 12 TIMES NOW. *TR
S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING RE TOYOTA ACCELERATION PROBLEM FM OWNER OF A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA TRUCK. *KB THE CONSUMER STATED THE ENGINE RACED AND THE VEHICLE LURCHED FORWARD. THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKE AS HARD AS HE COULD AND QUICKLY PLACED THE VEHICLE IN PARK. THE NEXT DAY, THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED, BUT THE VEHICLE WAS PERFORMING AS DESIGNED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA. HE STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 5 MPH AND PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED ON ITS OWN. HE PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES AND THE VEHICLE STILL WANTED TO SURGE FORWARD. HE PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK AND TURNED IT OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE AND TOLD HIM THAT THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THERE HAD BEEN NO REPAIRS DONE TO THE VEHICLE AT THE TIME OF THE COMPLAINT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 6367 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 8253. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,000.

THE FAILURE HAS OCCURRED SINCE THE DAY THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED. I TURNED LEFT INTO A BEST BUY PARKING SPACE. MY FOOT COVERED THE BRAKE AS I SLOWLY COASTED IN. MY 2010 TACOMA BEGAN SPEEDING UP. I HIT THE BRAKES AS HARD AS I COULD, STOPPED THE TACOMA. I TURNED THE IGNITION OFF, PUT THE TACOMA IN PARK. THIS WAS NOT FLOOR MAT RELATED, SINCE THE DEALER DID NOT SUPPLY FLOOR MATS WITH THE TACOMA. I NEVER TOUCHED THE GAS PEDAL. I SHOPPED, THEN BROUGHT THE TACOMA TO PAULY TOYOTA, CRYSTAL LAKE, IL, WHERE THE SERVICE DEPT. TOOK IT IMMEDIATELY. THE TRUCK IS 3 WEEKS OLD, LESS THAN 1000 MILES ON IT. *TR
2010 TOYOTA TACOMA BASE MODEL 2 DOOR SMALL PICKUP TRUCK. WHEN DRIVING INTO SUN AND WHEN RAINING WINDSHIELD APPEARS TO BE ETCHED CAUSING A BLINDING GLARE. DEALERSHIP ATTEMPTED TO CLEAN IT INSIDE AND OUT AND THEN GAVE THE EXPLANATION THAT ALL THE 2010 TACOMAS THEY HAVE THIS SAME PROBLEM. 2 DIFFERENT DRIVERS OF OUR PARTICULAR TACOMA HAVE BEEN BLINDED BY THIS APPARENT DEFECT WITH CLOSE CALLS RESULTING. WHILE SLOWING AND MAKING RIGHT OR LEFT TURNS, MY 2010 TACOMA V-6 4X2 AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL SLIP INTO EITHER NEUTRAL OR FIRST GEAR FOR SEVERAL SECONDS (TYPICALLY 2 OR 3). ENGINE RPM INCREASE AND THEN TRANSMISSION SHIFTS INTO THE CORRECT GEAR WITH A LURCH. THIS DEFECT MAKES LEFT TURNS, ACROSS TRAFFIC, ESPECIALLY DIFFICULT AND DANGEROUS, SINCE YOU NEVER KNOW IF IT WILL HAPPEN AND HOW LONG IT WILL TAKE TO HUNT FOR AND FIND THE "RIGHT" GEAR. I FIRST NOTICE THE ISSUE AFTER DRIVING ABOUT 75 MILES (HAVE A LITTLE OVER 800 MILES NOW). BEEN TO DEALER TWICE. DEMONSTRATED PROBLEM WITH SERVICE MANAGER IN THE TRUCK. HE HAD NO SOLUTION FOR THE PROBLEM. HE "HOPES" TOYOTA WILL COME OUT WITH A FIX. TOYOTA HAS A SIMILAR DEFECT WITH THE 2009 TACOMAS AND ISSUED ON NOVEMBER 3, 2009 TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN T-SB-0373-09. BUT TSB ONLY ELIMINATED THE DEFECT IN THE 2009 MODEL. DOES NOT ADDRESS 2010 TRUCKS. THIS DEFECT NEEDS TO BE RESOLVED QUICKLY BEFORE SOMEONE GET INJURED. *TR
VEHICLE IS A 2010 TOYOTA TACOMA DBL CAB, THE TRANSMISSION SEARCHES FOR THE RIGHT GEAR TO ACCELERATE IN ONCE THE SPEED GETS 15MPH OR LOWER AND YOU PRESS THE GAS PEDDLE. AT 1ST IT WAS JUST ANNOYING, BUT RECENTLY I WAS TURNING A CORNER AT A SIGNAL LIGHT BEHIND ANOTHER VEH. AND IT SLAMMED ON IT'S BRAKES, I WENT TO GO INTO THE PASSING LANE, BUT WHEN I ACCELERATED, THE TRANSMISSION DIDN'T RESPOND, IT JUST REVS UP TRYING TO FIND THE GEAR. BY THE TIME IT DID, I WAS WATCHING IN MY MIRROR AND AN ONCOMING VEHICLE STARTED HITTING THEIR BRAKES TO AVOID HITTING ME. WHICH WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN AN ISSUE IF MY TRUCK WOULD HAVE GONE WHEN I PRESSED THE GAS. THIS OCCURS EVERY TIME YOU ARE GOING AT A RATE OVER 25 MPH AND SLOW DOWN TO AT LEAST 15 MPH AND THEN TRY TO ACCELERATE AGAIN. IE: CROSSING HIGHWAYS. I PURCHASED THIS TRUCK OCT. 21, 2009 AND HAD IT BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP ON NOV 9TH, 2009 WITH THIS ISSUE, THE TECH DROVE IT, ACKNOWLEDGED IT, AND TOLD ME ALL THE NEWER VEHICLES ARE THAT WAY, & HAVE HAD OTHERS COME IN WITH THE SAME ISSUE. WHILE SLOWING TO 10-12 MPH MY 2010 TACOMA V-6 4X4 'S AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION WILL SLIP INTO WHAT SEEMS TO BE NEUTRAL FOR ABOUT 2-3 SECONDS. ENGINE RPM'S WILL RISE TO ABOUT 2500-3000 RPM'S BEFORE TRANSMISSION RE-ENGAGES. THIS SITUATION HAS NEARLY GOTTEN ME INVOLVED IN 5 ACCIDENTS. I FIRST NOTICED THE PROBLEM WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD ABOUT 150 MILES ON IT. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO OCCUR WHEN YOU SLOW FOR EITHER A LEFT OR RIGHT TURN OR WHEN YOU SLOW TO 10-12 MPH AND THEN TRY TO RESUME POWER . VEHICLE HAS BEEN TO SELLING DEALER 3 TIMES TO HAVE THIS ISSUE RESOLVED BUT HAS NOT BEEN FIXED. DEALERS TRANSMISSION MECHANIC WENT FOR A TEST DRIVE WITH ME AND THIS CONDITION WAS DUPLICATED WITHIN 5 MINUTES. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE HAS BEEN NOTIFIED AND SO FAR NO FIX HAS BEEN FORTHCOMING. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2010 TACOMA TUNDRA. HE STATED THAT ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED BACAUSE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS TO CLOSE TOO THE BREAK PEDAL. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER. THE DEALER STATED THERE IS NOTHING THEY COULD DO, THAT IS THE WAY THE VEHICLE IS DESIGNED. THE CURRENT AND THE FAILURE MILEAGE WERE 900.
VEHICLE RECALLED FOR BAD LEAF SPRINGS. NOTHING HAS HAPPENED SINCE, OVER 6 MONTHS AND THEY DO NOT EVEN HAVE AN ESTIMATE OF WHEN REPAIRS TO BE ACCOMPLISHED. NOT FINDING THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE ANY AUTHORITY THAT CAN REQUIRE THE REPAIR OF THE VEHICLE AND CANNOT SELL IT TO ANYONE WITH REPAIRS NOT MADE. *TR

CONSUMER WRITES REGARDING HIGH RPM OF VEHICLE ENGINE *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DEALER DID NOT OFFER A DIAGNOSTIC OR ROAD TEST TO DETERMINE THE EXTENT OR REASON FOR HIS SAFETY ISSUES. A TECHNICAL SERVICE REPRESENTATIVE STATED THE ENGINE SPECIFICATIONS WERE SET ELECTRONICALLY AT THE FACTORY AND THE RPM COULD NOT BE ADJUSTED. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ISSUE APPEARED TO BE A HIGH RPM OF THE ENGINE, WHICH CREATED AN AGGRESSIVE SURGE WHEN PLACED IN FORWARD AND REVERSE POSITIONS. *JB
