MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND MY VEHICLE ENTERED "LIMP MODE," WHICH KEEPS THE CAR UNDER ABOUT 35MPH AND PREVENTS IT FROM ACCELERATING QUICKLY. THE CEL READ AS A SECONDARY AIR INTAKE SYSTEM PROBLEM (P2440 AND P2442). JUDGING BY THE MULTITUDE OF SIMILAR COMPLAINTS I HAVE FOUND, THIS IS A SYSTEMIC PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA REFUSES TO RECTIFY FOR TACOMAS BUT HAS ALREADY ADMITTED TO FOR TUNDRAS. THIS IS A SERIOUS DANGER TO DRIVERS IF THE VEHICLE ENTERS "LIMP MODE" WHILE THEY ARE DRIVING THROUGH AN INTERSECTION OR IN HEAVY TRAFFIC. IT ISEEMS ALSO RIDICULOUS FOR TOYOTA TO EXPECT TACOMA OWNERS TO SPEND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS TO FIX THEIR POORLY DESIGNED PART, ESPECIALLY CONSIDERING THE PART IS NOT VITAL TO THE PERFORMANCE OF THE ENGINE.
I GOT THE ENGINE LIGHTS ON IN THE MORNING STARTING THE TRUCK ON NOV 3, AND TRUCK WENT INTO LIMP MODE. GOT IT HOME AND LET IT SIT FOR A BIT AND THEN IT SEEMED TO BE OKAY ACCELERATING BUT THE ENGINE LIGHTS WERE STILL ON. TOOK IT TO TOYOTA AND WAS READING THE DREADED P2442 SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM CODE. THEY CLEARED THE CODE AND DROVE IT AROUND; CLEARED AGAIN THEY DEEMED IT OKAY AND CHARGED ME $60 FOR THE CODE READ. LEAVE TO DRIVE TO WORK AGAIN THIS MORNING AND BAM, THE LIGHTS BACK ON AND THE THING IS BACK INTO LIMP MODE WITH BARELY ANY POWER TO THE ENGINE. HAD TO DRIVE THIS TRUCK IN THIS UNSAFE CONDITION BACK TO MY HOUSE. I READ SO MUCH ONLINE ABOUT HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED WITH THIS SAME DEFECTIVE PART AND TOYOTA QUOTED ME $2300 CAD + 13% TAX TO FIX IT AND REPLACE THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP/VALVE. NOT COVERED UNDER ANY WARRANTY NOR MY EXTRA CARE PROTECTION PLAN I PAID FOR.
MY 2012 TACOMA HAS A SPIRAL WIRE ISSUE THAT DEALER REFUSES TO FIX EVEN THOUGH THIS PART IS ASSOCIATED WITH THE TAKATA RECALL IN PREVIOUS YEAR MODELS WONDERING WHY THE RECALL STOPPED AT 2011 AND DOES NOT COVER THE ISSUE WITH MY TRUCK. CURRENTLY ONLY AFFECTIN THE USE OF MY HORN BUT AS SEEN IN PREVIOUS RECALLS COULD AFFECT MORE LTHINGS LATER ON.
SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM: STARTED THE VEHICLE AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. OBD READ P2440/P2442. WHILE DRIVING UPHILL ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY, THE VEHICLE LOSS POWER AND WOULD NOT GO FASTER THAN 20MPH AND THE RPM'S RAMMED UP. AFTER SOME SOME RESEARCH FOUND OUT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE TACOMA IN WHICH TOYOTA WAS AWARE OF.
2012 WITH 78,000 MILES, THREW CODES P2440, P2442. SAME AS EVERY OTHER TACOMA OWNER IN THIS YEAR RANGE. BAD VALVES AND PUMP ON THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION UNIT. COST TO REPAIR AROUND 1,000 DOLLARS DOING THE WORK MYSELF. VERY DISAPPOINTED AS THIS IS MY THIRD TACOMA AND HAD PLANNED ON KEEPING THIS ONE FOR A LONG TIME.
DRIVING VEHICLE AND ALL OF A SUDDEN ENGINE LOOSES POWER. TRUCK DID NOT DIE AND WOULD SLOWLY ACCELERATE. I HAD TRAFFIC BEHIND ME HONKING AND CUTTING ME OFF UNTIL I COULD GET TO A PULL OFF SPOT. I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A MECHANIC AND DISCOVERED THE SECONDARY AIR PUMP AND VALVES WERE THE CAUSE CAUSING THE LOTS OF ACCELERATION. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS AND KNOWN ISSUE FOR TOYOTA OWNERS AFTER RESEARCHING. I DO HAVE REPAIR RECEIPT WHICH IS VERY COSTLY
THE AIR INJECTION PUMP WENT OUT AND HAD TO BE REPLACED, AND THERE IS ONLY 18,200 MILES ON THE VEHICLE. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING, AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE "SAFE MODE" KICKED IN. TOYOTA WAS ABLE TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PART. I UNDERSTAND FROM READING ON THE INTERNET THAT THIS IS TURNING OUT TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM FOR THIS VEHICLE, AND WISH TO ADD MY EXPERIENCE TO THE LIST.
TACOMA WENT IN "LIMP MODE" ENGINE LIGHT AND TRAC OFF LIGHT ILLUMINATED; CAUSE THE CAR TO BE EXTREMELY UNDER POWER. VEHICLE EXTREMELY UNDER POWER CAUSING TO BE DANGEROUS IN TRAFFIC. CODE P2442 SECONDARY INJECTION SYSTEM FAILURE; COMMON TO OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES INCLUDING TUNDRA'S. TOYOTA ACTED RESUMABLE WITH TUNDRA'S WITH EXTENDING WARRANTY REPAIRING BUT AT THIS TIME REFUSES TO REPAIR KNOWN FAILURES IN TACOMA'S.
SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVE FAILURE STUCK IN OPEN POSITION CAUSING LIMP MODE IN THE TRUCK. TRUCK IS NOT ABLE TO GET TO SPEED ABOVE 40 MPH. THIS HAPPENED AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF MY NEIGHBORHOOD ONTO A STATE ROUTE WITH SPEED LIMIT OF 55 MPH AND CARS GOING WAY FASTER THAN THAT. THIS COULD POSE A DANGER IF SITUATIONS WHERE SPEED IT REQUIRED TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ANOTHER CAR. TRUCK ONLY HAS 57K MILES ON IT. THIS IS A SUPPLEMENTAL EMISSIONS SYSTEM AND SHOULD NOT CAUSE THE TRUCK TO BE USELESS IF FAIL.
57,000 MILES ON TRUCK WENT INTO LIMP MODE, P2440 AND P2442 CODE SHOWED SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE DEALER QUOTED $2000, SAID THEY WOULDN'T COVER ANYTHING
THE SECONDARY INJECTION PUMP WENT OUT.
THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP FAILED AT 62,000 MILES. FOR SPECIFICS IT SHOWED THE CODES P2440 AND P2442. THIS WAS KNOWN PROBLEM ON THE PREVIOUS MODEL TUNDRAS, THE SERVICE MGR AT RODLAND TOYOTA SAID THEY HAD ALREADY REPLACED THREE PUMPS ON TRUCKS OF THE SAME YEAR THAT WEEK.
THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP'S VALVES WENT BAD WITH THE VEHICLE ONLY HAVING 30K MILES. THIS CAUSED THE TRUCK TO GO INTO LIMP MODE AND DID NOT ALLOW FOR ACCELERATION WHILE DRIVING. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS ASPECT WHEN DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY. NOTHING HAPPENED TO THE VEHICLE TO CAUSE THIS FAILURE, IT JUST STARTED UP ONE DAY AND WAS BAD.
TAKATA RECALL I STOPPED THE AT TRAFFIC LIGHT ION CITY STREET WITHOUT RAIN. I JUST STARTED DRIVING, WHEN LIGHT CHANGED TO GREEN, THERE WAS NO STEERING FEELING AT ALL FOR A FEW SECOND. THE CAR WAVED SIDE BY SIDE TWICE WITHOUT MY CONTROLLING. THEN I DROVE SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY, IT'S OK. I BOUGHT CAR TO TOYOTA DEALER THE NEXT DAY, THEY SAID STEERING SYSTEM IS OK, MAY BE BECAUSE OF WET BELT.
I WAS DRIVING ON A50MPH HIGHWAY AN CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AND TRUCK SLOWS TO 40MPH WONT GO ANY FASTER.
THERE IS A PLASTIC FOOT REST ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE FLOOR BOARD THAT COMES LOOSE AND GETS TANGLED UP IN THE DRIVER'S FEET WHILE DRIVING. THIS CREATES A DRIVING HAZARD AND COULD CAUSE AN ACCIDENT.
MY 2012 TACOMA WITH 45,000 MILES GOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND "TRAC OFF" LIGHT WHEN I STARTED IT TO GO HOME. I WAS MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND UNABLE TO GO ABOVE 40 MPH. THIS WAS OBVIOUSLY NOT SAFE SO I EXITED AND TOOK IT TO A DEALER. THEY CITED TROUBLE CODES P2440 AND P2442 AND SAID THEY NEEDED TO REPLACE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE (PN 25710-31022) FOR A TOTAL COST OF $940! ACCORDING TO FORUMS AND THE NHTSA.GOV SITE, THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT WITH THIS YEAR AND MODEL. I JUST BOUGHT THIS LAST JULY AND I NEVER EXPECTED TO HAVE TO REPLACE PARTS ANYTIME SOON.
MY 2012 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER 2WD HAS 54,640 MILES. I JUST GOT A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND "TRAC OFF" LIGHT YESTERDAY. MY TRUCK WOULD ACCELERATE TO JUST 25 MPH WHEN MERGING ONTO THE INTERSTATE AND TOP SPEED WAS AROUND 50 MPH. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE AND TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THIS KNOWN PROBLEM UNDER THE STANDARD 3 YEAR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY. AUTOZONE RAN THE DIAGNOSTIC SCAN AND CAME UP WITH TROUBLE CODES P2440 AND P2442. THESE ARE TIED TO THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM AND SWITCHING VALVES. THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP SAID THIS WOULD COST ME CLOSE TO $2000 TO REPAIR. I PAID $30,000 FOR THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW JUST 4 YEARS AGO. THIS NEEDS TO BECOME A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT SO THAT A SAFETY RECALL IS ISSUED FOR TOYOTA TO REPAIR THIS KNOWN DEFECT FOR FREE.
SECONDARY AIR INJECTION FAILURE AT 58K MILES. DEALER QUOTED $2200 TO REPLACE VALVES AND PUMP. SEVERAL FAILURES WITH 2012 REPORTED
I STARTED MY TACOMA, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND TRK OFF LIGHTS WERE ON AND AFTER TAKING THEM TO THE DEALER LEARNED THAT THE VECHILE WAS IN LIMP MODE. THE TRUCK WILL NOT EASILY ACCELERATE BEYOND 30MPH. THIS IS CAUSED BY ERROR CODE P2442 AND P2440, FROM A KNOWN FAULTY PART THAT TOYOTA REFUSES TO REPLACE.
I TOOK MY 2012 TACOMA INTO SERVICE TODAY WITH A TRAC OFF AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON. I WAS TOLD THAT THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVE NEEDED REPLACED AT THE TUNE OF $1300. I SEE THAT MANY OTHERS HAVE HAD THIS ISSUE AND WITH 37K MILES, I FIND IT UNREAL THAT THIS ISN'T COVERED UNDER THE POWERTRAIN WARRANTY.
CODES P2440 & P2442 THESE ARE FOR THE AIR INJECTION SYSTEM ON START UP. THE VALVES FAIL AND THIS IS A EMISSIONS PART. OUT OF WARRANTY AND ONLY HAVE 65,000 MILES. TUNDRA HAD THIS ISSUE AND GOT A 10 YEAR WARRANTY ON THE COMPONENTS.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA TACOMA. AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS STARTED, THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,000. THE VIN WAS NOT PROVIDED.
ONLY 49,000 MILES ON MY $32,000 TRUCK AND LIKE MANY OTHER OWNERS OF 2012 TACOMAS I HAVE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COME ON WITH THE TRAC OFF LIGHT AND GIVING THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE OF P2442 SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVE. THIS IS CLEARLY A EMISSIONS AND MANUFACTURING PROBLEM WITH THIS YEAR AND TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE TO FOOT THE BILL INSTEAD OF CHARGING US $2,100 FOR A FIX A A PRACTICALLY NEW EXPENSIVE TRUCK. THE AIR INJECTION VALVE IS PART OF EMISSIONS AND SHOULD BE COVERED AND A TSB OR RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED FOR THIS. WHEN THIS VALVE GOES OUT TYPICALLY EVERY 50,000 IT RENDERS YOUR TRUCK USELESS AND PUTS IT INTO SAFE MODE NOT ALLOWING YOU TO GO MORE THAN 35-40 MPH. NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS SPEED JUST DOESN'T WORK ON THE HIGHWAY TO TRAVEL TO WORK AND UNLESS YOU FORK OVER THE $2,100 TO HAVE IT FIXED THEN YOU HAVE TO FIND ANOTHER WAY TO WORK. THIS IS SUCH A SCAM ON TOYOTAS PART AND I AM OUTRAGED THAT AFTER PURCHASING OVER 4 TOYOTA VEHICLES FROM THEM THEY DON'T STAND BY THEIR PRODUCT TO FIX THE PROBLEM.
AIR PUMP AND VALVES ON THE EMISSION SYSTEM FAILED. TRUCK WENT INTO LIMP MODE WITH LIMITED ACCELERATION AND SPEED. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON 2012 TACOMA. TUNDRA AND SEQUOIA VEHICLES HAVE HAD THE SAME EXACT ISSUE AND REPAIRS COVERED BY TOYOTA. HOWEVER, TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER THIS SAME ISSUE ON THE TACOMA.
AS I'VE READ FROM NUMEROUS OTHER 2012 TACOMA OWNERS ON TACOMAWORLD.COM, MY SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVE HAS FAILED AT 65K MILES. THIS SEEMS TO BE A RECURRING ISSUE WITH ALL 2012 SIMILAR TACOMA MODELS AND SHOULD ABSOLUTELY BE RECALLED AND REPLACED FOR FREE! UNTIL FIXED, MY TRUCK IS UNDRIVABLE, MEANING THE CEL LIGHT IS ON AND THE TRUCK WON'T GO FASTER THAN 30 MPH.
THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEMS SEEMS TO FAIL QUITE FREQUENTLY ON THESE 2012 TACOMAS WITH LITTLE TO NO HELP FROM TOYOTA TO TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE AS A RECALL. THESE ARE KNOWN TO FAIL RIGHT AFTER YOUR OUT OF WARRANTY AND TO CHARGE IT'S LOYAL CUSTOMERS OVER $1000 FOR A PART THAT SHOULD NOT FAIL OR A PART THAT SHOULD BE COVERED IS ABSURD. I HAVE BEEN A LOYAL TOYOTA CUSTOMER MY WHOLE LIFE BUT THE ISSUES OF THE TACOMA ARE MAKING ME RETHINK MY DECISIONS AS AN AUTOMOTIVE CONSUMER
THE SECONDARY AIR INTAKE PUMP AND SWITCHING VALVE STOPPED WORKING AFTER ONLY 28,000 MILES. CAR WENT DIRECTLY IN LIMP MODE MAKING IT UNDRIVABLE. DEALER WANTED $2,100.00 FOR PARTS AND LABOR AND SAID IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTY.
AFTER STARTING TACOMA, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT AND "TRAC OFF" LIGHT CAME ON, WENT INTO LIMP MODE, COULD ONLY GO 30MPH. TACOMA JUST HIT 34,000 MILES. DEALERSHIP STATED SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE STUCK CLOSED BANK 1 (CODE P2441). WAS TOLD PUMP AND VALVES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT $2100, INCLUDING LABOR. CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE, TOLD IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER POWER TRAIN OR EMISSIONS WARRANTY. THIS ISSUE ACTUALLY FIRST OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY 4 MONTHS AGO WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET. WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND WENT INTO LIMP MODE. PULLED INTO A FIRESTONE AND THEY SAID IT WAS ALSO CODE P2441. THEY RESET IT AND IT DIDN'T HAPPEN AGAIN UNTIL A FEW DAYS AGO. THIS TIME THE CODE WOULD NOT RESET, WARNING LIGHT WON'T TURN OFF AND REMAINS IN LIMP MODE.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND VEHICLE WAS NOT GOING PAST 2K RPM AND OVER 20MPH. CONNECTED TO AN ONBOARD DIAGNOSTIC READER WHICH GAVE ME CODES P2440 AND P2442- SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE STUCK OPEN BANK 1 & 2. VEHICLE HAS LESS THAN 50,000 MILES AND ONLY 4 YEARS OLD AND TOYOTA DOES NOT COVER FAULTY EQUIPMENT UNDER ANY WARRANTY (POWERTRAIN OR FEDERAL EMISSIONS) ALTHOUGH THEY HAVE ISSUED CANADA TSB 3861 ACKNOWLEDGING THE DEFICIENCY, BUT LEAVING THE OWNER TO PAY $645.00 FOR THE REPLACEMENT PART FROM TOYOTA DEALER. THIS IS UNSATISFACTORY- THEY MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR A VEHICLE STILL WITHIN POWERTRAIN (60,000MI) OR FEDERAL EMISSION (80,000MI) WARRANTY.
TREAD CRACK/SPLIT OR DRYROT ON OUTER AND INNERMOST TREAD SURFACE OF ALL FOUR TIRES. BOUGHT VEHICAL USED WHEN IT HAD 44,627 MILES WHEN NOTICING THIS PROBLEM.
ABS GOES OFF UNEXPECTEDLY IN LOW SPEEDS/HIGH SPEEDS...DRY/WET CONDITIONS...USUALLY ON WINDING ROADS WITH GRADE FLUCTUATIONS CAUSING VEHICLE TO SLIDE INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON SINCE MY PURCHASE IN 2012. THANKFULLY I HAVE NOT BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS BUT LOTS OF CLOSE CALLS. TOYOTA REFUSES TO RESOLVE THIS ISSUE, AND DENYS THAT IT HAPPENS.
THE HORN DOESN'T WORK. THE PROBLEM HAS BEEN DIAGNOSED AS "CLOCK SPRING" AND THE COST TO FIX IT IS ALMOST $500. THIS IS A LOT TO PAY FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD NEVER GO OUT! RELAY AND FUSE CHECKED OUT.
WHILE ON HIGHWAY DOING 65MPH, VEHICLE SLOWED TO 50, TO 40, TO 30, TO 20 BY ITSELF. PULLED OVER, PLACED BACK INTO GEAR, VEHICLE ONLY WENT 40 MPH DOWNHILL, 20 MPH UPHILL. DROVE TO TOYOTA DEALER WHO SAID THIS WAS THIRD TACOMA THIS WEEK WITH FAULTY SECOND AIR FUEL INJECTOR. NO RECALL YET, BUT 3 WEEKS FOR BACK ORDER OF PART. 43 OTHERS BEFORE MY PART REQUEST. SAME PART ON RECALL FOR TUNDRA MODEL. SAFETY WAS COMPROMISED ON HIGHWAY BECAUSE OF AUTOMATIC DECELERATION
SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE FAILURE AT 53K MILES, TOYOTA WOULD NOT COVER UNDER MY POWER TRAIN OR EMISSION WARRANTY. TRUCK WAS PUT INTO LIMP MODE WHEN THE FAILURE HAPPENNED AND WAS UNDRIVABLE.
BREAKING HARD, ESPECIALLY ON WET ROADS, THE FRONT WHEELS LOCK UP CAUSING LACK OF STEERING. NOTICED THIS AFTER PURCHASING THE VEHICLE NEW IN 2012. HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH NORMAL BRAKING AND EMERGENCY STOPPING.
SECONDARY PUMP DOES NOT WORK WHEN IS COLD TURNING TRAC AND ING LIGHT ON CAUSING LOOSE OF POWER AND HIGHT GAS CONSUMING. DEALER SAYS WARRANTY DOES NOT COVER.
BRAKES ON VEHICLE LOCK-UP AND ARE OVERLY SENSITIVE. ON MANY OCCASIONS WHEN DRIVING ON WET PAVEMENT AT SLOWS SPEEDS THE ABS ENGAGED AND LOCKED THE BRAKES WITH ONLY VERY LIGHT PRESSURE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL. ON ONE OCCASION WHEN DRIVING AT 10-15 MPH IN A PARKING LOT IN SNOW, A LIGHT TOUCH TO THE BRAKE LOCKED UP THE BRAKES CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO BECOME UNSTABLE AND CRASH. I HAVE HAD FOUR OTHER TOYOTA TRUCKS, THREE OF THEM TACOMAS AND NONE OF THEM HAD THIS BRAKING ISSUE. BARELY PRESSING THE BRAKES SHOULDN'T CAUSE THEM TO LOCK UP WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO BECOME VERY UNSTABLE. LUCKILY IT DOES IT MORE OFTEN AT LOW SPEEDS. IT'S A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AS THE VEHICLE BECOMES UNDRIVABLE.
THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION PUMP AND SOLONOID...IT LEFT ME STRANDED ON THE ROADSIDE...24000 MILES ON A TRUCK IS NOT EVEN BROKE IN..RELIABILITY?..I HANDLED IT..ONLY BECAUSE IVE BEEN A MECHANIC FOR 25 YEARS...WHAT IF IT WAS MY WIFE AND KIDS BROKE DOWN IN GETTO TOWN...THIS IS A HUGE PROBLEM FOR MANY AND IS SO COMMON..IVE CLEARED THE CODES SEVERAL TIMES BUT THEY ALWAYS REAPPEAR...THIS IS A DEFINATE RECALL...MAKE IT SO...24000 9N A TRUCK AND I CANT DRIVE IT...MY LOYALTY IS FADING FAST...TRY TO IMAGINE DRIVING YOUR TRUCK DOWN A ST.LOUIS 6 LANE FREEWAY AND YOUR TRUCK SAYS...NOPE YOU STAYING HERE..ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD...DONT GET OUT...YOULL GET RAN OVER...MAYBE TOYOTA SHOULD HAVE A DISPLAY ON THE INFO CENTER CONCOLE THAT TELLS YOU THAT...AND THEN WISHES YOU GOOD LUCK...
CHANGING A FLAT TIRE, THE SPARE WHICH HAS NEVER BEEN USED WAS LOW ON AIR, DROVE FOR LESS THAN 5 MILES AND PARKED LATER IT WAS FLAT TOO.DEALER HAS DONE SEVERAL MULTI POINT INSPECTIONS, SPARE TIRES NOT ON LIST. DEALER STOLE THE HUBCAP DURING THE MOUNTING / INSTALLATION
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE SEIZED AND THE SPEED DECREASED TO 20 MPH. THE VEHICLE STALLED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE AIR PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF TH FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILIABLE.
REAR PASSENGER DOOR DOES NOT HAVE WELDED IN WINDOW STOPS. GLASS COULD SHATTER AND AIRBAG COULD DEPLOY.
ON SEPTEMBER 20, 2015, THE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS CAME ON AND DIDN'T GO OFF. UPON INVESTIGATION, I DISCOVERED THAT THERE WAS IN FACT A RECALL ON THE 2012 TOYOTA TACOMA; HOWEVER, IT DID NOT INCLUDE MY VIN NUMBER. I CONTACTED BOTH OUR LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE WERE NOT ANY PLANS AT THIS TIME TO EXPAND THE RECALL TO INCLUDE MY VEHICLE. I CAN NOT TELL IF THESE COMPONENTS ARE WORKING OR NOT AS I HAVE NOT DRIVEN IN ICE, SNOW, ETC AND HAD A NEED FOR THEM TO ENGAGE. BUT AT THE SAME TIME, I DON'T WANT TO WAIT UNTIL A TIME IN WHICH I DO NEED THEM AND THEY BE INOPERABLE.
THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON TWICE WHILE DRIVING MY TACOMA. THE FIRST TIME I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY AND THE SECOND TIME I WAS DRIVING ON CITY STREETS. AS SOON AS I STOP THE VEHICLE AND UNBUCKLE THE SEAT BELT THE LIGHT GOES OFF. THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER DID A DIAGNOSTIC CHECK AND TEST DRIVE BUT THEY COULD FIND OR DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THEY SAID THERE IS NO RECALL ON THE VEHICLE, WHICH I HAVE ALSO VERIFIED.
AT APROXIMATE 40 MPH AND AT A CONSTANT SPEED THE VEHICLE STARTS TO SHUTTER OR SHAKE, FEELS LIKE IT WANTS TO DOWN SHIFT OR UP SHIFT MAYBE ITS CONFUSED. DEALER COULD NOT DUPLICATE 2 TIMES
VEHICLE LUNGES WHEN YOU COME TO COMPLETE STOP, BETTER HOLD THE BRAKE WITH SOME FORCE ANY TIME STOPPED, TOYOTA SERVICE SAYS IT HAPPENS ALL THE TIME, ITS NORMAL !!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SWITCH THE VEHICLE TO FOUR WHEEL DRIVE, A LOUD ABNORMAL NOISE WAS HEARD. THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY ACCELERATED WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED. THE CONTACT SHIFTED THE GEAR INTO NEUTRAL; HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO ACCELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP BY DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH FORCE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 42,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 35 MPH, THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE CRASHED INTO THE SIDE OF ANOTHER VEHICLE CAUSING SIGNIFICANT DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THERE WERE NO INJURIES AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 29,000. UPDATED 8/10/15*CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE REPAIR COST APPROXIMATELY $10,000. UPDATED 11/24/2015*JS
BRAKE FAILURE THINKING DUE TO WEAR AND TEAR-- BRAKES SERVICED -- NEW BRAKE PADS ON FRONT BACK PADS STILL GOOD -- BRAKE CYLINDER HAD TO BE REPLACED ON FRONT PASSENGER SIDE -- BRAKES BLED OFF STILL NO BRAKES ONLY HAVE BRAKES IF PUMP THEM CONTINUOUSLY -- AT THE MOMENT STILL IN SHOP TRYING TO FIND A MASTER CYLINDER TO REPLACE THE ONE IN IT TO SEE IF THAT WILL FIX THE PROBLEM
DEALER HAS DETERMINED THAT RODENTS ARE THRU THE WIRING FOR THE KNOCK SENSOR. CEL & TRAC LIGHTS CAME ON. ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP MODE. HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER NOW FOR ONE WEEK. PROBABLY BE ANOTHER WEEK BEFORE I GET IT BACK.
