A WARRANTY ON THE FRAME OF THE TRUCK WAS SATISFIED ON 5/6/2014. THE FRAME WAS RUSTY AT THE TIME. HOWEVER, THE FRAME IS RUSTY AGAIN AND WE NOW HAVE A SAFETY CONCERN.
THE FRAME IS RUSTING APART. THE REAR END HAS RUST HOLE THROUGH IT. I HAVE ALREADY REPLACED THE RACK AND PINION BECAUSE IT HAD QUARTER SIZE HOLE RUSTED THROUGH IT.
FRAME RECALL- MY 2004 TUNDRA WAS RECALLED FOR THE FRAME RUSTING OUT. TOYOTA DEEMED THAT A NEW FRAME WAS NOT NEEDED AND DID THE CRC TREATMENT WHICH IS ABSOLUTE JUNK AND ONLY CAUSES THE FRAME TO RUST EVEN WORSE. I WANT A NEW FRAME INSTALLED BY TOYATA AND ANY OTHER RUSTY PART- ALL SHOULD BE REPLACED FREE OF CHARGE
HAD TRUCK IN FOR OIL CHANGE WHOLE FRAME, DRIVE SHAFT PARKING BRAKE CABLE IS RUSTING THROUGH. *TT
I'm the second owner of this 2004 Toyota truck, my father was the first. This truck has been babied since my dad drove it off the lot. Everything is in superior condition except for the frame, it has almost completely rusted off. My dad passed away and this is all I have of his. Back in 2014 , it was sprayed with a rust prevention as part as the Toyota campaign which did nothing besides cover the already existing rust and increase the breakdown of the frame. Google is filled with hundreds of people saying the same thing and I don't understand how Toyota is getting away with this.
TOYOTA TUNDRA 2004first. I'M the 2nd owner of this truck and my deceased father was the This truck has been treated like a baby, garage kept, never late on oil changes etc. Everything is in superior condition except for the frame is now completely rusted out. The rusted rear frame has affected the rear brake lines and the proportioning valve along with the passenger side ball joint and cv axle were damaged. Tie rods and sway bar stabilizers were all worn and broken as well. After my father died of cancer there was a crc campaign for undercoat spray which my mom supposedly had it done April 2014. That did nothing besides cover up the existing rust and increase the break down of the frame. It felt like my breaks were going out so took it to the closest mechanic for him say not only the brakes but my frame is completely rotten and rusted out.. he also stated he saw no signs of it being sprayed and Voss toyota in beavercreek ohio wasn't able to provide verification that it was indeed done because there records are gone after 4 years. It was noted it was done but who knows.
CAR A RUSTY MESS. PARTS FALLING OFF. TOYOTA SAID TOO BAD, WE ARE NOT REPLACING FRAMES ANYMORE. WON'T PASS INSPECTION NEXT TIME. LESS THAN 35,000 MILES ON CAR.
NOTICED THAT VEHICLE WAS PULLING TO LEFT. CHECK ALIGNMENT OK. NOTICED THAT SWAY BAR LINK HAD SNAPPED DUE TO CORROSION. REPLACED WITH TOYOTA PART AND CONDITION CORRECTED. *TR
WHILE MY 2004 TUNDRA WAS IN THE DEALERS FOR A REPAIR, THE SERVICEMAN NOTICED A CORROSION PERFORATION IN RIGHT FRONT FRAME RAIL. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD NO LONGER PAST INSPECTION UNLESS A $10,000 FRAME REPLACEMENT WAS DONE. THIS IS A LOW MILEAGE VEHICLE WHICH WAS MAINTAINED ACCORDING TO MANUFACTURER MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE. DAMAGE IS DUE TO MANUFACTURING DEFECT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN STATIONARY FOR THREE MONTHS. A PASSENGER ATTEMPTED TO START THE VEHICLE BUT IT WOULD NOT START. THE PASSENGER'S SIDE AIR BAG THEN INADVERTENTLY DEPLOYED WITHOUT WARNING. THE PASSENGER SUSTAINED FACIAL LACERATIONS, SEVERE BRUISING AND A LOSS OF HEARING AS A RESULT OF THE ERRONEOUS AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT, AND WAS TRANSPORTED TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM FOR TREATMENT. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT REFERENCED NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 13V133000 (AIR BAGS) BUT HAD NOT CONFIRMED IF THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE AT AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, HE WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME WAS SEVERELY CORRODED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000.
AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COLUMN SHIFT PROBLEM OF THE 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA TOYOTA TUNDRA. THERE IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM WITH THE STEERING COLUMN HOUSING SUPPORT. AFTER STARTING THE VEHICLE AND SUBSEQUENTLY ATTEMPTING TO SHIFT THE GEAR INTO REVERSE , THE GEAR SHIFT LEVER BROKE FREE AT THE STEERING COLUMN. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. ABLE TO PARK THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS UNABLE TO SHIFT INTO ANY OTHER GEAR. THE CONSUMER STATED IT APPEARED THE CAST ALUMINUM COMPONENTS SUPPORTING THE TRANSMISSION SHIFT LEVER APPEARED TO BE FLAWED. THERE IS ONLY 81 THOUSAND ON THIS TRUCK. UNSAFE !!!!!!!!! THANK GOD IT DIDN'T BREAK AT 65 MPH ! BUT IT COULD HAVE ! *TR
THE T BRACKET THAT HOLDS SPARE TIRE UP UNDER BED OF TRUCK BROKE DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST DROPPING SPARE TIRE OUT ON ROAD AT 30 MPH...VERY UNSAFE TO SAY THE LEAST. ALSO, FRONT TORSION BAR FRAME MOUNT PASSENGER SIDE HAS BROKEN OFF FRAME DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. 2 INCH BY 5 INCH HOLE IN THE FRAME BOTTOM AT THIS LOCATION. *TR

AS A RESULT, AIR LEAKED FROM THE TIRES. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON ALL FOUR WHEELS. THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED TO OCCUR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000. TOOK MY TRUCK IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE AT THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER. AFTER THE ROUTINE INSPECTION THEY TOLD ME THE TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO HOLES GREATER THAN 10MM FOUND IN THE FRAME CAUSED BY SEVERE RUST. TOYOTA HAS SAID THE 04 MODEL IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, AND I APPEAR TO BE IN LIMBO. THIS ISSUE IS STILL UNRESOLVED.THE TRUCK WILL NEED NEW FRAME AND COMPONENTS FOR IT TO BE ROAD WORTHY AGAIN. *TR
EXCESSIVE RUST ON FRAME, UNDER BODY, AND SUSPENSION. REAR AXLE / DIFFERENTIAL HAS LARGE FLAKING RUST SO BAD THAT IT WILL NOT HOLD LUBRICANT. FILED COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA ON 11/13/2013 AND WAS GIVEN A CASE # AND TURNED IN PHOTOS AT LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER IN EARLY DECEMBER 2013. CONTACTED TOYOTA IN JANUARY 2014 AND WAS TOLD THAT A RECALL WAS GOING TO BE ISSUED BUT IT WOULD COVER FRAME ONLY AND NO OTHER COMPONENTS WOULD BE COVERED FOR RUST. I PERSONALLY TOOK IT UPON MYSELF NOT TO DRIVE THIS VEHICLE BECAUSE I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE AND NOT ROAD WORTHY DUE TO RUST. I ALSO FEEL THAT A COMPANY THAT I HAD A LOT OF RESPECT FOR BECAUSE OF THEIR REPUTATION FOR QUALITY AND SAFETY HAS LET ME DOWN. VEHICLE HAS BEEN PARKED SINCE 11/13/2013 AND WILL NOT BE DRIVEN UNTIL PROPERLY REPAIRED OR REPLACED. *TR
I RECENTLY NOTICED A LEAK UNDER THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, THE DIFFERENTIAL WAS FOUND TO BE RUSTED RIGHT THROUGH AND LEAKING. I EXAMINED THE FRAME AS WELL AND NOTICED SEVERE RUSTING IN VARIOUS PLACES ON THE FRAME. I NEVER RECEIVED A NOTICE OF RECALL ON THE FRAME. APPARENTLY THERE IS NOT ONLY FRAME DAMAGE TO MANY TUNDRAS, BUT ALSO TO NECESSARY WORKING PARTS. I HAVE NEVER HAD AN AXLE ROT OUT ON ANY OF MY CARS AND BECAUSE OF THE INABILITY TO SIMPLY REPAIR A SEAL, THE ENTIRE AXLE WILL NEED REPLACING? SEEMS A BIT EXTREME. I LIKE THE TUNDRA AND WILL BASE MY DECISION TO REMAIN A CUSTOMER ON HOW I'M TREATED IN THE RECALL APPOINTMENT. *TR

THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THERE WERE NO HOLES IN THE FRAME AND PAINTED THE FRAME WITH CRC PAINT. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REMEDY FAILED TO REPAIR THE FAILURE AND THE RUST RETURNED. THE 2004 AND EARLIER TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS HAD MAJOR CORROSION ISSUES AND FRAME RECALLS. MY TUNDRA WAS JUST INSPECTED BY THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER AND MAJOR CORROSION WAS NOTED ON THE VEHICLE FRAME. TOYOTA APPLIED A FIBERGLASS BASED RUSTPROOFING TO THE FRAME. HOWEVER, THEY WOULD NOT ACKNOWLEDGE ANY OTHER CORROSION OR ROT ON THE VEHICLE. MY VEHICLES MOTOR MOUNTS ARE SO CORRODED THAT I AM AFRAID THAT THE ENGINE WILL FALL OUT OF THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE MOUNTS THAT HOLD THE RADIATOR ARE SO CORRODED THEY ARE ALMOST GONE. THERE ARE NUMEROUS OTHER AREAS IN THE ENGINE COMPARTMENT AND UNDERCARRIAGE THAT ARE COMPLETELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE IS UNSAFE TO DRIVE AND TOYOTA WILL NOT ADDRESS IT. *TR
ON 9/27/13 WHEN MY 2004 TUNDRA WAS BEING CHECKED OUT FOR A RECALL FOR SEVERE FRAME RUST THE RI TOYOTA DEALER BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL WAS ROTTED THROUGH AND LEAKING OIL AND SAID THAT THIS RUST IS NOT COVERED BY RECALL. THE WHOLE AXLE HAS TO BE REPLACED. MY QUESTION TO YOU IS, SHOULDN'T TOYOTA BE RESPONSIBLE FOR ALL THE SUB-STANDARD STEEL? SHOULDN'T THIS BE UNDER A SAFETY RECALL FOR OIL LEAKAGE? AS FAR AS I KNOW THE OIL LEAK CANNOT BE FIXED W/O COMPLETE AXLE HOUSING REPLACEMENT AND THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT EFFECTS A HUGE # OF TUNDRAS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT POWER STEERING FLUID WAS LEAKING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE RACK AND PINION WAS DEFECTIVE. IN ADDITION, HE STATED THAT WHILE HE WAS INSPECTING THE VEHICLE HE NOTICED THAT THE FRAME WAS CORRODED AND THE CROSS MEMBERS WERE FRACTURED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 178,000.
THERE IS EXTENSIVE CORROSION DAMAGE TO ALL METAL FITTINGS AND METAL FUEL AND HYDRAULIC LINES. THE REAR AXLE IS SEVERELY CORRODED AND LEAKING OIL THROUGH THE CASTING REQUIRING REPLACEMENT. THERE IS A FUEL LINE FAILURE NEXT TO THE EXHAUST MANIFOLD. THE CORROSION DAMAGE TO THE STEERING SYSTEM FITTINGS REQUIRES REPLACEMENT OF THE RACK ASSEMBLY ALTHOUGH THE SYSTEM OPERATES PROPERLY. THERE IS CORROSION DAMAGE TO MANY OF THE SUSPENSION CONNECTION POINTS TO THE FRAME INCLUDING REAR SPRINGS. DEALER DEEMS THE VEHICLE UNSAFE IN IT'S CURRENT CONDITION AND RECOMMENDS IT BE SOLD FOR SALVAGE. THERE IS LITTLE TO NO CORROSION DAMAGE TO THE BODY THAT CAN BE SEEN FROM A VISUAL UNDERSIDE INSPECTION AND VEHICLE LOOKS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FROM THE OUTSIDE. VEHICLE WAS DEALER MAINTAINED PER THE MANUFACTURER'S MAINTENANCE SCHEDULE.

WHILE DRIVING THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF OF THE TRUCK DUE TO A BADLY RUSTED SPARE TIRE WENCH, AS I LOOKED UNDER THE TRUCK TO SEE IF THEIR WAS ANY OTHER DAMAGE I NOTICED A LOT OF RUST ON THE FRAME. MOST NOTABLY AROUND THE SUSPENSION. *TR
THE FRAME OF MY 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS RUSTING SO BAD THAT I WROTE A LETTER TO TOYOTA AND SENT THEM PICTURES OF THE TRUCK, THEY HAD A RECALL FOR RUST IN FRAMES WITH 2003 TUNDRAS AND I BELIEVE THAT I HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM BUT TOYOTA DOES NOT WANT TO ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR IT. ALSO I ALREADY REPLACED SEVERAL PARTS DO TO RUST. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR BAGS CAUSED A CHEMICAL REACTION TO MAKE THE DASHBOARD COVERING STICKY. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER AND THEY WERE ABLE TO CLEAN THE SURFACE OF THE AIR BAG COVER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE CHEMICAL USED TO CLEAN THE AIR BAG COVER CAUSED THE PLASTIC COVERING TO BECOME THIN AND THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED ABOUT A DEFECT IN AIR BAG DEPLOYMENT. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THE SPARE TIRE DISLODGED FROM THE SPARE TIRE WELL AND ONTO THE ROAD. THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE UNDER CARRIAGE BEING EXCESSIVELY CORRODED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE.
I TOOK MY TRUCK TO THE TOYOTA DEALER BECAUSE OF A NOISE IN THE FRONT END. IT TURNS OUT THE FRAME AT THE ATTACHMENT POINTS FOR THE STABILIZATION BAR WAS BADLY RUSTED. THERE ARE RUST HOLES IN THE FRAME AND THE ATTACHMENT POINT ON THE LEFT SIDE HAD RUSTED FREE OF THE FRAME AND THE OTHER SIDE IS NOT TO FAR BEHIND. TOYOTA HAS A HISTORY OF RUSTED FRAMES BUT ACCORDING TO THE VIN NUMBER IT IS NOT PART OF THE CURRENT RECALLS. I WAS TOLD SORRY WE CAN'T FIX IT. THIS IS NOT RIGHT!!!! CAN YOU HELP. *TR
BROUGHT MY TRUCK IN FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I WAS CALLED AT WORK BY MY GARAGE, THEY TOLD ME THE TRUCK WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE DUE TO SEVERAL HOLES AND CRACKS IN THE FRAME DUE TO SEVERE RUST. I BROUGHT THE TRUCK TO THE DEALER I PURCHASED IT FROM AND THEY AGREED THAT THE TRUCK WAS NOT DRIVABLE. TOYOTA HAS SAID THE 04 MODEL IS NOT PART OF THE RECALL, AND I APPEAR TO BE IN LIMBO. IT HAS BEEN 3 WEEKS AND THIS ISSUE IS STILL UNRESOLVED. THE ONLY CERTAINTY IS THAT THE TRUCK WILL NEED MANY NEW FRAME COMPONENTS FOR IT TO BE ROAD WORTHY AGAIN. *TR
MASSIVE GENERALIZED RUST UNDER VEHICLE. THIS IS AFFECTING THE FRAME, SUSPENSION, ALL LINES, EXHAUST, ALL METAL FITTINGS, WHEELS, BRAKES, SPARE TIRE. MY MECHANIC DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO PROCEED AND SUGGESTED WE NO LONGER DRIVE THIS VEHICLE. TOYOTA DEALER SAID THIS IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RUST RECALL WHICH IS IN EFFECT FOR TUNDRA TRUCKS EXACTLY LIKE THIS ONE , BUT OFF BY A COUPLE MONTHS BY MANUFACTURING DATE. OUR TOYOTA DEALER DID NOT HAVE A SUGGESTION OR ANSWER FOR HOW TO FIX THIS, OTHER THAN TO ASK IF WE WERE INTERESTED IN BUYING A NEW CAR. WE BOUGHT THIS TRUCK NEW AND HAVE TAKEN EXCELLENT CARE OF IT. THE INSIDE AND UPPER BODY LOOKS NEW. *TR
THE FRAME HAS SEVERE RUST. ALSO REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS LEAKING FLUID THROUGH THE STEEL BOWL. *TR
FRAME IS BADLY RUSTED IN MANY AREAS INCLUDING WHERE SUSPENSION AND BRAKE COMPONENTS MOUNT. I AM CONCERNED A MAJOR FAILURE COULD LEAD TO INJURY TO MYSELF OR A MEMBER OF MY FAMILY. I UNDERSTAND THERE WAS A RECALL FOR 2000-2003 TUNDRAS FOR THE SAME ISSUE BUT MY 2004 WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *TR
BROUGHT VEHICLE IN FOR NEW MUFFLER AND TAILPIPE. MECHANIC SHOWED ME A LEAKY REAR SEAL BECAUSE THE METAL COVER WAS RUSTING THROUGH. ALSO SHOWED ME MAIN FRAME AND SUSPENSION POINTS WHICH ARE , IN HIS WORDS, "LIKE RUST HOLDING HANDS". *TR
6/13/13 VEHICLE DID NOT PASS INSPECTION MAJOR FRAME PERFORATION TOYOTA PERFORMED LIMITED FRAME REPLACEMENT AT THEIR COST AFTER MUCH DISCUSSION . NOT ALL SEVERELY RUSTED PARTS WERE REPLACED ONLY THE MAJOR ASSEMBLY MOUNTING PIECE ITEMS THAT WERE DISASSEMBLED AND COULDN'T BE REUSED WERE REPLACED. NO SUB PIECES OF THE MAJOR ASSEMBLY WERE REPLACED. IF THE WERE RUSTED THEY WERE REINSTALLED. 8/4/14 VEHICLE DID NOT PASS INSPECTION MAJOR RUST FAILURE DEFORMATION AND LEAKING OF STEERING RACK HOUSING THAT WAS SEVERELY RUSTED AND NOT REPLACED WHEN FRAME WAS REPLACED. RACK WAS REPLACED BY OWNER AT OWNERS EXPENSE. 4/15/15 REAR DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING RUST THRU AND HOUSING FAILURE. HOUSING WAS SEVERELY CORRODED WHEN FRAME WAS REPLACED. OWNER WAS INFORMED IT WAS NOT PART OF THE FRAME REPLACEMENT . TOYOTA DOES NOT HAVE ANY RECALL BULLETIN ISSUED DESPITE THE NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS FOUND ON THE INTERNET. REPLACEMENT WILL BE AT OWNERS EXPENSE. BRAKE BACKING PLATES AND AXLE MOUNTING HARDWARE THAT WERE SEVERELY CORRODED WHEN FRAME WAS REPLACED ARE NOT SALVAGEABLE AND WILL REQUIRE REPLACEMENT AS WELL IN ORDER TO REPLACE THE REAR AXLE HOUSING. *TR
WHILE DRIVING ON FREEWAY AT APPROX. 50-55 MPH, THE FRONT LEFT SIDE SUDDENLY JOLTED DOWNWARD, SPARKS AND SMOKE WERE VIEWED BY BOTH SIDE VIEW AND REAR VIEW MIRRORS, I SLOWLY APPLIED BRAKES THINKING IT WAS ONLY A BLOW OUT BUT FROM THE GRINDING METAL AGAINST CEMENT SOUND, I REALIZED IT WAS MUCH WORSE THAN A BLOW OUT.WHEN FINALLY COMING TO A COMPLETE STOP, I SAW THE WHOLE WHEEL COMPLETELY SHEARED FROM THE FRONT SUSPENSION, FORTUNATELY, THE WHEEL LODGED ITSELF INSIDE THE WHEEL WELL AND THE RUNNING BOARD ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. IT COULD HAVE EASILY GONE UNDERNEATH AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO FLIP OVER OR EVEN INTO OTHER VEHICLE'S ON ROAD. FORTUNATELY, NO ONE ELSE OR OTHER VEHICLES WERE INVOLVED. AFTER INSURANCE COMPANY ADJUSTER INSPECTED THEY DETERMINED IT TO BE TOTALED. I FIND THIS EXTREMELY UPSETTING, DO I HAVE ANY RECOURSE? THERE COULD HAVE EASILY BEEN TWO FATALITIES. PLEASE HELP!!! I BELIEVE AFTER REVIEWING OTHER INCIDENTS LIKE THIS, THERE SHOULD HAVE BEEN SOME TYPE OF RESPONSIBILITY FROM TOYOTA. I HAD NO IDEA THERE WERE SO MANY SUSPENSION ISSUES WITH THIS VEHICLE... LARGE PARTS OF THE DIFFERENTIAL HOUSING ARE ALREADY MISSING! *THE FRONT TRANSFER CASE AND TRANSMISSION ARE PERFECT! *THE ENTIRE REAR TRANS-AXLE IS ROTTING FROM THE OUTSIDE. *THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ADJUSTMENT TURNBUCKLE IS ROTTING. *STRUCTURAL MOUNTS FOR THE EMERGENCY BRAKE ARE ROTTED. *THE STEEL IN THE FRAME AND MOST FACTORY WELDS ARE DE-LAMINATING. *BRACKETS HOLDING THE BRAKE LINE AND JUNCTIONS ARE ROTTING. *CAPTURE PLATE AND HARDWARE HOLDING SPARE TIRE IN PLACE ARE ROTTED. 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE ON 05/18/13. WELL CARED FOR VEHICLE AND SERVICED FAITHFULLY AT EVERY INTERVAL.TOLD BY SERVICE MANAGER THAT THE FRAME HAS A HOLE IN IT.THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM BY TOYOTA. FRAME IS VERY RUSTY AND WAS PART OF A PROBLEM TOYOTA HAD WITH A BAD BATCH OF METAL USED FOR FRAMES.SERVICE MANAGER COULD OFFER NO RELIEF FOR THIS PROBLEM AND REFERRED ME TO TOYOTA CUSTOMER CARE. CUSTOMER CARE COMPLAINT NUMBER [XXX]. CUSTOMER CARE ADVISED THEY COULD DO NOTHING ABOUT THIS AND BASICALLY HAVE A NICE DAY. SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED THAT I SHOULD BE CAREFUL WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS. FRAME APPEARS TO BE EXCESSIVELY RUSTY. WHEN I HAD TIRES REPLACED AT TIRE DEALER, THEY RAISED VEHICLE AND IT SOUNDED LIKE FRAME WAS GOING TO BREAK A LOT OF CRACKING AND LOUD POPPING SOUNDS. IS THERE ANY RECALLS FOR MY VEHICLE?

DURING OUR 2013 INSPECTION WE WERE TOLD WE HAVE SEVERE CORROSION IN THE UNDER CARRIAGE... WE TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE WE WERE TOLD THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON 2000,2001,2002,2003. NOT 2004. OUR TUNDRA WAS BUILT IN MARCH 2004 AND HAS THE SAME CORROSION. HOWEVER, NO RECALL YET. WE JUST HAD OUR 2014 INSPECTION DONE AND THE VEHICLE FAILED. WE CAN NO LONGER PUT IT ON THE ROAD...SO- WE HAVE A 10 YEAR OLD VEHICLE, 30,800 MILES AND IF WE WANT TO HAVE THE CORROSION REPAIRED IT WILL COST APPROX. $10,000... TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2004 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 35 MPH, THE VEHICLE SWERVED TO THE RIGHT AND THE DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MECHANIC, WHO INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE UPPER AND LOWER BALL JOINTS SNAPPED, CAUSING THE TIRES TO COLLAPSE INWARD AND UNDER THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE FRONT AXLE WAS FOUND TO BE FRACTURED. THE MECHANIC REPLACED THE LOWER BALL JOINTS, CONTROL ARM AND THE AXLE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN AND REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER: 07V01300 (SUSPENSION: FRONT: CONTROL ARM: LOWER BALL JOINT). THE MANUFACTURER OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 263,000.

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A LOCAL MECHANIC WHERE THE MECHANIC STATED THAT THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL HOUSE EXHIBITED EXCESSIVE RUST. THE MECHANIC ALSO ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO DRIVE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE EXCESSIVE RUST ISSUE HOWEVER, THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. MY 2004 TUNDRA HAS A RUSTED FRAME THAT IS NOT SAFE. THE TRUCK HAS 48,000 MILES ON IT AND THE FRAME HAS RUST HOLES THROUGH IT. THIS IS NOT NORMAL SURFACE RUST. THE TRUCK HAS NO OTHER RUST ISSUES. TOYOTA NEEDS TO RECALL THIS VEHICLE. *TR
