NOT LONG AFTER THE LAST TAKATA RECALL,NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID: 15V286000, THE PASSENGER SIDE AIRBAG COVER BECAME STICKY AND DISCOLORED - MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER WHO PERFORMED THE RECALL AND THE TOYOTA CORPORATION SAID IT IS NOT A TOYOTA ISSUE. AN INTERNET SEARCH REVEALS OWNERS OF A VARIETY OF AUTO MANUFACTURERS HAVE THE SAME COMPLAINT. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT ANY DEFECTS RELATED TO AIRBAG COMPONENTS COULD POSE A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD. PLEASE ADVISE IF THIS CONSTITUTES A " SAFETY PROBLEM " AND ANY KNOWN REMEDY. I WAS LEAVING A PARKING LOT WHEN THE RIGHT FRONT BALL JOINT FAILED. THE WHEEL FELL OFF, THE SUSPENSION DROPPED DOWN. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK, TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND CALLED FOR A TOW TRUCK.
THE SPARE TIRE WAS HANGING UNDER THE TRUCK. USE THE TOOLS TO CRANK IT BACK UP AND HOLD IT SECURELY. THE FIRST TURN AND THE CABLE SNAPPED AND TIRE FELL. THE CABLE WAS RUSTED AND SNAPPED AND THE CARRIER HOLDING THE TIRE ITSELF FELL

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER EXCEEDED A REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME FOR THE RECALL REPAIR. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS BEING SERVICED AT A DEALER, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE REAR AXLE HOUSING WAS RUSTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WAS PREVIOUSLY EXPERIENCED AND THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE, BUT THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT OFFER ANY ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 125,000. UPDATED. 5/28/15 *TA UPDATED 9/18/15 *JS
TAKATA RECALL. THE RECALL STARTED ALMOST A YEAR AGO FOR THE LOS ANGELES AREA. THE SUGGESTION TOYOTA GAVE ME UNTIL THE INFLATOR IS AVAILABLE IS TO TRANSPORT NO PERSON IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT. THIS IS OUR ADVENTURE VEHICLE: SNOWBOARDING, KAYAKING, ROAD BIKING, MOUNTAIN BIKING, CAMPING, SCUBA DIVING, ETC. I DO ALL OF THE THINGS WITH MY WIFE AND FRIENDS. AM I REALLY EXPECTED TO TRANSPORT NO ONE IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT FOR THIS LONG? IT IS COMPLETELY UNFAIR TO PUT MY FAMILY AND FRIENDS EITHER AT RISK OR TO MAKE IT ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO USE MY TRUCK THE WAY IT WAS INTENDED TO BE USED. MY COMPLAINT IS THAT IT IS TAKING TOO LONG TO GET THE INFLATOR NEEDED FOR TOYOTA TO FIX THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM.

THE FRAME IS ROTTING AWAY, DEALER SPRAYED IT ABOUT THREE YEARS AGO, ALMOST ALL OF THAT COATING HAS FALLEN OFF.
THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM........SINCE THE ORIGINAL 70B RECALL. I WAS BACKING INTO THE DRIVEWAY WHEN THE LEFT FRONT BALL JOINT FAILED. MY SON AND I HAD JUST COME OFF OF THE HIGHWAY. MY TIRE WAS NEARLY OFF THE TRUCK AND IT JAMMED INTO THE LEFT FRONT QUARTER PANEL, I COULD NOT EXIT THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR. THE NUT CAME OFF AND WAS ON THE GROUND, THE COTTER PIN WAS NO WHERE TO BE FOUND. I TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND OF COURSE THEY WOULD NOT MAY FOR THIS REPAIR. I CANNOT UNDERSTAND WHAT THIS DEFECT HAS NOT BEEN PART OF A MASS RECALL BY TOYOTA MOTORS. THIS IS STILL A PROBLEM AND POTENTIAL DANGER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE MERGING INTO HIGHWAY TRAFFIC, THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP SAFE MODE CAUSING IT TO DECELERATE. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST OFF THE HIGHWAY. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY AND THE AIR SWITCH VALVES ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 56,600.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS UNDERGOING ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DISCOVERED THAT THE SUBFRAME NEAR THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AXLE AREA WAS RUSTED WITH HOLES PRESENT. IN 2015, THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY KRAMER TOYOTA IN PORT CHARLOTTE, FL AND NO RUST WAS FOUND. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE FRONT BRAKE LINES, CONTROL ARM, STEERING RACK, AND BALL JOINTS WERE ALL REPLACED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC DUE TO RUST AND CORROSION. THE FAILURES WERE NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED FOR THE RECENT FAILURE. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 157,000.
THERE IS A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF RUST UNDERNEATH MY TRUCK, DESPITE THE FRAME BEING REPLACED FROM A VOLUNTARY RECALL. THE TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM HAS DETERIORATED FROM RUST AND IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING.
TAKATA RECALL - BECAUSE THE RECALL NOTICE SENT BY TOYOTA ADVISES THAT I NOT OPERATE THE VEHICLE WITH AN OCCUPANT IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, I HAVE HAD ONLY LIMITED USE OF THE VEHICLE FOR NEARLY SIX MONTHS. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA, ASKING THAT THEY PROVIDE A REPLACEMENT VEHICLE OR BUY THE VEHICLE BACK (TOYOTA CASE #1511190602. SINCE THE VEHICLE CAN NOT BE USED AS INTENDED, IT IS MY OPINION THAT TOYOTA SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO OFFER RESONABLE COMPENSATION AND/OR AN AMICABLE SOLUTION. FURTHER, IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THE PROBLEM WITH THE AIRBAG IS MORE LIKELY TO FAIL IN AREAS PRONE TO HIGH HUMIDITY. FOR MOST OF THE YEAR, THIS TRUCK IS PARKED WITHIN 50 FEET OF LAKE ERIE - FROM MAY TO SEPTEMBER - NORMAL DAILY HUMIDITY IS GENERALLY OVER 80% TOYOTA SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO OFFER COMPENSATION - THIS IS A SERIOUS DEFECT. TO SO DRASTICALLY LIMIT THE OWNERS USE OF THE VEHICLE WITH NO KNOWN DATE FOR A SOLUTION IS NOT ACCEPTABLE. AGAIN, TOYOTA SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO OFFER FAIR FINANCIAL COMPENSATION OR A COMPERABLE LOANER VEHICLE (INCLUDING SUITABLE INSURANCE COVERAGE) TO THE VEHICLE OWNER'S SATISFACTION.
VEHICLE KICKS OUT OF GEAR WHILE DRIVING WOULD SHIFT REAL HARD INTO SECOND GEAR TAKING OFF THEN WHEN UP TO SPEED WOULD KICK OUT OF GEAR AS INTO NEUTRAL AND COAST RANDOMLY. *TR
THE 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAD A RECALL ON THE FRAME BECAUSE THE FRAMES WERE COMPROMISED DUE TO EXCESSIVE RUST. I TOOK MY VEHICLE IN TO ORLEANS TOYOTA AND HAD THE FRAME INSPECTED. THEY SAID THE FRAME WAS NOT RUSTED THAT BAD AND IT COULD BE TREATED, WHICH WAS PART OF THE CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT COMPROMISE. NOW MY FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND THE VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. HOW DID THE DEALERSHIP PROPERLY INSPECT A ENCLOSED BOX FRAME? HOW DO YOU TREAT A FRAME MADE OUT OF INFERIOR METAL AND CORRECT THE ISSUE? THE TREATMENT DID NOT CORRECT THE ISSUE. MY VEHICLE HAS BECOME A SAFETY ISSUE EVEN AFTER THE RECALL. I LIVE IN NEW ENGLAND AND KNOW THIS IS A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE TOYOTA TUNDRAS AT THIS TIME. I TOOK MY VEHICLE BACK IN TO ORLEANS TOYOTA AND HAD THEM INSPECT THE FRAME. THEY TOOK A PICTURE OF WHERE THE FRAME HAS RUSTED THROUGH AND SENT IT TO TOYOTA. TOYOTA HAS NOT RESPONDED IN THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS. MANY OF THE VEHICLES THAT HAD THE FRAMES TREATED ARE,OR ARE BECOMING UNSAFE TO DRIVE.
AIR PRESSURE IN ONE TIRE CONSTANTLY DEFLATES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT DUE TO THE POROSITY CHROME OF THE WHEELS, AIR LEAKS OUT FROM THE WHEEL CAUSING THE TIRE TO DEFLATE. *TR
WHILE TRAVELING AT 65 MPH (POSTED SPEED FOR THE US 20 BYPASS AROUND SOUTH BEND IN}, I DROVE OVER A SLIGHT BUMP COMING OFF AN OVERPASS BRIDGE. MY WIFE AND I HEARD A WHOOSHING NOISE FROM UNDER THE TRUCK THAT WAS REPEATED AS WE DROVE DOWN THE ROAD. WHEN WE REACHED OUR DESTINATION I FOUND THE FRONT GAS TANK RETAINING STRAP HAD BROKEN. THE GAS TANK WAS DANGLING JUST ABOVE THE PAVEMENT AND THE NOISE WAS THE PLASTIC SKID PLATE HITTING THE ROAD. THE STRAP WAS CLEARLY RUSTED THROUGH AFTER ONLY 98000 MILES. IT WAS A FULL TANK OF GAS. FORTUNATELY THERE WAS NO FIRE. TOYOTA REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING TO HELP WITH THE REPAIR OR ACCEPT ANY RESPONSIBILITY. *TR
THE TRUCK BED IS SHOWING RUST SPOTS WHICH APPARENTLY IS AN ISSUE WITH TUNDRAS. TALKED TO THE DEALER AND TOYOTA AND THEY TOLD ME IT IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY AND THERE IS NOTHING THEY WILL DO. *TR
I HAD MY VEHICLE SERVICED AT A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO ADDRESS THE FRAME RUST CORROSION RECALL. CORPORATE GUIDELINES INDICATE THE NECESSITY TO INSPECT, REMOVE THE PICKUP BED, REMOVE ANY RUST AND REINSPECT FOR RUST PERFORATION. CORPORATE ALLOWS 8-9 BILLABLE HOURS TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR THIS SERVICE. MY VEHICLES SERVICE WAS COMPLETED IN LESS THAN 4. UPON INSPECTION, IT IS APPARENT THAT THE DEALERSHIP NEVER REMOVED THE BED NOR REMOVED ANY RUST PRIOR TO SPRAYING THE FRAME WITH ITS "CRC". I HAD DOCUMENTED PHOTOGRAPHS TO PROVE THIS POINT AND THEN CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE. BY TOYOTA CORPORATE'S REQUEST, I RETURNED TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THE VEHICLE INSPECTED. UPON INSPECTION,THE DEALERSHIP'S SHOP MANAGER ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THE BED WAS NOT REMOVED AND MULTIPLE AREAS OF RUST THAT HAD BEEN LEFT UNTOUCHED. ONLY FURTHER INDICATING THAT IN ADDITION TO NOT REMOVING THE BED, THE DEALERSHIP DID NOT BOTHER TO REMOVE ANY EXISTING RUST FROM THE FRAME EITHER. THE DEALERSHIP REFUSED TO STRIP AND PROPERLY TREAT THE FRAME AS INDICATED BY CORPORATE GUIDELINES. I CONTACTED CORPORATE AND THEY ARE REFUSING TO TAKE ANY ADDITIONAL ACTIONS. AS IT STANDS, IT IS QUESTIONABLE AT BEST AS TO HOW LONG IT WILL BE BEFORE THERE IS A POTENTIAL FAILURE HERE. THIS IS NO ISOLATED INCIDENT EITHER, THERE ARE MANY OWNERS WHO ARE BEING DEFRAUDED IN A SIMILAR FASHION. FIVE MINUTES ON GOOGLE WILL EASILY PROVE THIS POINT. AS FAR AS I UNDERSTAND, TOYOTA SETTLED WITH THE FRAME MANUFACTURER (DANA CORP) FOR AROUND $25 MILLION. SO TOYOTA SOUGHT OUT AND GAINED FINANCIAL REIMBURSEMENT ON THEIR END BUT WHEN IT COME TO TAKING CARE OF THOSE WHO HAVE BEEN DAMAGED, NOT SO MUCH. I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE ANYONE FROM THE NHTSA TO CONTACT ME FOR ADDITIONAL DETAILS REGARDING THE MATTER. I HAVE MULTIPLE PHOTOGRAPHS DOCUMENTING THE ISSUE AND THE FAILED ATTEMPT AT COVERING IT UP. *TR
TAMARA RECALL - I WAS EXITING THE FREEWAY, MAKING A LEFT HAND TURN ONTO THE CITY STREET, I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 25 MILES PER HOUR. AS I ENTERED THE INTERSECTION, ON A GREEN LIGHT, A 1996 GMC YUKON RAN A RED LIGHT, TRAVELLING APPROXIMATELY 40 MILES AN HOUR AND HIT ME ON MY FRONT END, DAMAGING THE BUMPER, FENDER, DOOR, HOOD AND BED ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. I WAS WEARING MY SEATBELT BUT THE IMPACT WAS HARD ENOUGH TO PROPELL ME UPWARDS, CAUSING MY LEFT SHOULDER TO HIT THE FRAME ABOVE THE WINDOW WHICH CAUSED A GRADE 3 SEPARATION OF MY LEFT COLLARBONE.
I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM TOYOTA TELLING ME I NEEDED TO HAVE MY FRAME INSPECTED AT THE DEALERSHIP IN 2014. I DID THIS AND THE DEALERSHIP SAID MY FRAME WAS FINE. LESS THAN 2 YEARS LATER MY MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT MY FRAME WAS NOT FINE AND URGED ME TO CONTACT THE DEALER OR TOYOTA CORPORATE DIRECTLY. I DID SO BUT THEY SAID THAT THE RECALL THAT HAD BEEN PLACED ON THE FRAMES HAD EXPIRED. I RECENTLY HAD SOME BRAKE WORK DONE ON THE TRUCK AFTER MY BRAKE LINES BURST. THE SAME MECHANIC INFORMED ME THAT THE FRAME WAS SO BAD THAT HE DID NOT THINK IT WOULD PASS INSPECTION. I ONCE AGAIN CONTACTED TOYOTA DIRECTLY AND THEY SAID THEIR WAS NOTHING THEY COULD DO. MY TRUCK IS CURRENTLY HAVING THE FRAME ANALYZED BY A THIRD PARTY IN HOPES REPAIRS CAN BE MADE SO THAT I DO NOT HAVE TO BUY A NEW TRUCK. THE TRUCK HAS 112000 AND I INTENDED TO PUT MANY MORE MILES ON IT THAN THAT. ALSO RELATED TO THE METAL USED UNDER THAT TRUCK, IN 2014 THE REAR PUMPKIN RUSTED ALL THE WAY THROUGH AND I NEEDED TO HAVE A NEW REAR SUSPENSION PUT IN. FURTHERMORE, I TOOK ADVANTAGE OF ZIEBART UNDERCOATING THAT THE DEALER WAS ADVERTISING WHERE FOR THE FIRST 6 YEARS I OWNED THE TRUCK, 2008-2014, I HAD IT UNDERCOATED ONCE EVERY YEAR. THE FACT THAT IT HAD BEEN PROTECTED WITH THE UNDERCOATING THE FIRST 6 YEARS I HAD IT AND THEN 2 YEARS LATER WAS RUSTED THROUGH IS AN INDICATION TO ME THAT THEIR IS SOME SORT OF MANUFACTURES DEFECT. *JS
INFLATED THE TIRES TO ENSURE PROPER PSI'S PRIOR TO OPERATION. TIRE WARNING LIGHT SHUTS ON AND OFF. TIRE WARNING LIGHTS WILL REMAIN ON WHEN VEHICLE IS STARTED, IDLING, AND IN OPERATION. THIS IS STILL AN ONGOING PROBLEM THAT HAS NOT BEEN FULLY RESOLVED. THE TIRE SENSORS COULD BE A CONTRIBUTING FACTOR WHICH IS NOT BEING REPORTED AS WELL. WENT TO THE LOCAL DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY WILL NOT FIX UNLESS THE RECALL IS UNDER TOYOTA'S WEBSITE AND NOT THE NHTSA. THIS IS A POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE THAT COULD RESULT IN AN ACCIDENT, INJURY, OR DEATH. *TR
POWER WINDOW CONTROLS ARE INTERMITTENT . WINDOW FREEZES IN THE DOWN POSITION AT RANDOM. SO FAR ONLY AFFECTS FRONT PASSENGER WINDOW . TOYOTA SAYS SINCE I DIDN'T BUY IT NEW , TOO BAD FOR ME . I THOUGHT I SAW A POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH RECALL ON THE NEWS ? ALSO THE PASSENGER AIRBAG HAS SHUT OFF . WHICH I GUESS IS A GOOD THING . TOYOTA SAYS JUST DON'T HAVE ANYONE RIDE THERE ! REALLY ? I HAVE NO WORD FROM THEM CONCERNING HOW LONG MUST WE ALL WAIT FOR REPAIRS . MY TRUCK WAS UNDER 90,000 MILES AND LESS THAN 10 YEARS OLD WHEN THIS HAPPENED , NOW ITS A YEAR LATER . ALSO THE DRIVERS DOOR RELEASE CABLE BROKE SO YOU CANNOT GET OUT . I FIXED THAT MYSELF , BUT WHAT IF THE WINDOWS AND THE ,DOORS ALL FAILED AND TRAPPED YOU IN THERE ? WINDOW STOPS AND STARTS WORKING RANDOMLY PARKED OR DRIVING , AIR BAG SHUT OFF WHILE PARKED , DOOR CABLE BROKE WHILE PARKED . PLEASE TELL ME WHY THE SITE SAYS 1 RECALL ? I THOUGHT THE WINDOW MASTER SWITCH WAS RECALLED . IT SHOULD BE . THANKS

THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO EXCESSIVE WEIGHT BEING PLACED ON THE RUNNING BOARDS. THE DEALER REFUSED TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE AND WOULD NOT CLAIM ANY RESPONSIBILITY. I WAS INFORMED OF THE RECALL IN THE SUMMER OF 2014. IT HAS BEEN NEARLY A YEAR AND A HALF SINCE THE NOTIFICATION. I WAS TOLD PARTS WERE ORDERED AND I WOULD BE NOTIFIED AND SCHEDULED FOR REPLACEMENT WHEN THE PARTS ARRIVED. I'VE CONTACTED DEALERS MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS TOLD THE SAME THING, WHEN PARTS ARRIVED. IN 2014, THE CONTACT RECEIVED A NOTICE IN THE MAIL FROM DCH WAPPINGERS FALLS TOYOTA (1349 U.S. 9, WAPPINGERS FALLS, NY 12590 (845) 206-0521) REGARDING A POTENTIAL ISSUE WITH THE MAINFRAME OF THE VEHICLE. UPON INSPECTION, THE DEALER FOUND HOLES IN THE FRAME; HOWEVER, THERE WERE NO MARBLE SIZE HOLES THAT WOULD QUALIFY FOR A FRAME REPLACEMENT. THE DEALER DECIDED TO PLACE A CRC TREATMENT (BLACK CODING) OVER THE HOLES IN AN EFFORT TO PREVENT MORE DAMAGE TO THE FRAME. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO POINTED OUT THAT THERE WAS A LARGE CRACK ON THE VEHICLE'S MAINFRAME. THE CONTACT CALLED THE SAME DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE ORIGINAL CAMPAIGN THAT WAS LAUNCHED NO LONGER EXISTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS UNKNOWN. *TR
"FRAMING ISSUE" I DISCOVERED ON JULY 23, 2017 THE FRAMING ON MY TRUCK AS ALREADY CORRODING WITH FRONT DRIVERS SIDE OF THE FRAME BEGINNING TO COMPLETELY ROT WITH THE METAL BECOMING BRITTLE AND CRUMBLING LEAVING HOLES IN THE FRAME. TOYOTA CORPORATION HAD A RECALL REGARDING THE FRAMES FOR THIS VEHICLE WHICH WERE NOT PROTECTED FOR THE NORTHEAST WINTER WEATHER CONDITIONS. THEY APPLIED AN ANTI-CORROSIN SPRAY IN HOPES THAT THE PROBLEM WOULD BE CORRECTED, BUT THE RESULTS THREE YEARS LATER IS THE FRAMING HAS BEEN SUBJECTED TO CORROSION WHICH MAY RENDER THE FRAME TO COMPLETE SUPPORT FAILURE. SPEAKING WITH CHRISTEEN, CASE MANAGER AT TOYOTA (800-331-4331, EXT 73811: CASE #1707240770), FAILED TO RECTIFY THE PROBLEM IN SAYING THERE IS NO OPEN CASE REGARDING THIS ISSUE, THEREFORE TOYOTA WILL NOT TAKE RESPONSIBILITY. SHE FURTHER WENT ON TO SAY THAT TOYOTA EXTENDED A COURTESY IN RECALLING THE 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRAS FOR THIS PROBLEM TO ALL CUSTOMERS EVEN THOSE BEING OUTDSIDE THE WARRANTY TIMELINE (AT TIME OF RECALL MY TRUCK HAD 93,000 MILES). THEY BELIEVED THAT THIS ANTI-CORROSION SPRAY WOULD ALLOW THE FRAMES AN EXTENDED LIFE PERIOD BEFORE THE CORROSION WOULD EVENTUALLY ROT OUT THE FRAMES COMPLETELY. SHE APOLOGIZED IN SAYING THERE IS NOTHING MORE SHE COULD DO AND HOPED THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER AVENUE SHE COULD TAKE IN RESOLVING THIS PROBLEM.
IN JUNE 2014 I TOOK MY TUNDRA TO HAVE IT EVALUATED, REFERENCE FRAME RUST. TOYOTA FELT THE BEST COURSE OF ACTION WAS TO APPLY SOME TYPE OF COMPOUND TO THE FRAME. *10/15/2015 BF IN MAY 2015 I LOOKED UNDER MY TRUCK AND NOTICED THAT THE RUST WAS COMING BACK WITH A VENGEANCE, ESPECIALLY WHERE THE RUST WAS HEAVIEST BEFORE. I FIND IT DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE THAT IF THE FRAME WAS DRIED, BRUSH, AND THEN THE COMPOUND "RUST PROOFING" WAS APPLIED THAT THE RUST WOULD BE COMING THROUGH/BACK IN LESS THEN A YEAR. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA AND THEY DO NOT SEEM INTERESTED IN ADDRESSING THE ISSUE. I FIND IT DISHEARTENING THAT THE BODY, ENGINE, AND THE REST OF THE TRUCK WILL OUTLAST THE FRAME. RUST DOES HAPPEN IN THE NORTH. HOWEVER, FRAMES DO NOT TURN TO DUST BEFORE THE FENDERS AND THE BODY. HOW IS IT THE BODY IS LASTING LONGER AND WEARING BETTER? THOSE PARTS ARE GOING THROUGH THE SAME ELEMENTS AS THE FRAME! ESSENTIALLY, TOYOTA TRIED TO PUT MAKEUP OR A BAND-AID ON THE PROBLEM WITHOUT ADDRESSING THE PROBLEM. IF YOU JUST PAINT OR COVER RUST WITHOUT TREATING THE RUST TO BEGIN WITH, THE PROBLEM WAS NEVER FIXED. IF YOU SAND THE RUST DOWN/OUT, THEN APPLY YOUR PAINT OR COMPOUND, YOU WILL EXTEND THE LIFE OF YOUR METAL. I HAVE TRIED TO BRING THIS ISSUE UP WITH TOYOTA AND THEY DON'T WANT TO HEAR IT. THEY STATE THE ISSUE IS CLOSED AND NOTHING ELSE WILL BE DONE. AFTER SOME RESEARCH IT CERTAINLY APPEARS THAT TOYOTA'S MANUFACTURING PROCESS AND STANDARDS FOR SECOND GENERATION TUNDRA ARE NO DIFFERENT THEN THE FIRST. IF TOYOTA CAN NOT OR DID NOT WANT TO BUILD A VEHICLE FOR COLD ENVIRONMENTS THAT USE SALT, THEY SHOULD NOT SELL THEM TO THE NORTHERN HALF OF THE UNITED STATES. WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK TO DRIVE OVER/DRIVE TURNS OFF. YOU HIT THE BUTTON TO TURN IT BACK ON AND START DRIVING AND IT AUTOMATICALLY SHUTS OFF AGAIN, NO MATTER YOUR SPEED. IT HAS TURNED OFF ON ME DOING 70MPH AND REALLY BOGS DOWN THE TRANSMISSION. I FOUND IF YOU WIGGLE THE RUBBER BOOT AT THE CONSUL IT WILL TURN IT BACK ON. READ ON GOOGLE THE WIRE IS STRIPPED FROM ALL THE YEARS OF SHIFTING AND IS SHORTING IT OUT.

HAD THE TRUCK IN FOR RECALL FOR UNDER COATING FRAME ABOUT ONE YEAR I LOOKED TO FIND RUST ON THE FRAME BY THE REAR SPRING. CALLED TOYOTA, THEN CALLED DEALER,WAS TOLD SOME ONE WOULD RETURN MY CALL. HAVE HEAR NOTHING FROM TOYOTA OR DEALER. THE FRAME IS FLAKING DO TO IMPROPER CLEANING.
DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA ON APRIL 25 2014, I MADE A LEFT HAND TURN ONTO A FREEWAY ON RAMP , CATASTROPHIC BALL JOINT FAILURE ON THE DRIVERS SIDE CAUSING ME TO LOOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND HIT THE EMBANKMENT. MY CAR IS SUPPOSEDLY 10 DAYS OUT OF THE RECALL NOTICE FOR THE FRONT LOWER BALL JOINT AND THE DEALERSHIP IS REFUSING TO HONOR THE RECALL. TOOK MY VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ESTIMATED $1400 REPAIR BILL. HAD THE BALL JOINT FAILED WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY THIS COULD HAVE BEEN A SERIOUS TRAGEDY. (TOYOTA GOING PLACES) ON WEDNESDAYS FEBRUARY 5, 2014 ABOUT 5:30PM , I WAS DRIVING MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA TO WORK. AS I WAS MAKING A RIGHT-HAND TURN ONTO I-95 SOUTH, THE FRONT LEFT-HAND SIDE OF MY TRUCK COLLAPSED. TO MY SURPRISE THE BALL JOINTS HEAD SEPARATED FROM THE SUSPENSION, THE LEFT BOTTOM FRONT SUSPENSION WAS DRAGGING THE HIGHWAY AND THE LEFT FRONT WHEEL WAS NOW STUCK UNDER THE RUNNING BOARD. THIS ACCIDENT ALSO DAMAGED THE LEFT FRONT BUMPER, THE LEFT FRONT FENDER AND THE LEFT FRONT DOOR. NEEDLESS TO SAY I WAS TRAUMATIZED. I SAW NO WARNING THAT THIS ACCIDENT WAS ABOUT TO HAPPEN. I KEPT MY TRUCK IN IMMACULATE CONDITION AND HAD REGULARLY MAINTENANCE DONE AT THIS TOYOTA DEALERSHIP. WE DECIDED TO DO A SEARCH ON THE WEB TO SEE IF ANY RECALLS EXISTED AND THERE IS A RECALL ON THE 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE. HOWEVER WHEN I CALLED TOYOTA CORPORATE AND PROVIDED MY VIN NUMBER - LOW AND BEHOLD MY TRUCK WAS NOT IN THAT RECALL (MY VIN# MISSED IT BY 15 DAYS). THE TOYOTA REPRESENTATIVE ASKED ME TO TAKE MY TRUCK TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND GET A WRITTEN ESTIMATE. AT MY OWN EXPENSE, I HAD THE TRUCK TOWED AND AFTER ABOUT TWO DAYS MY REPAIR EXPENSES WERE DENIED BY TOYOTA. HOWEVER, I WAS OFFERED $750 TOWARD THE PURCHASE OF A NEW TOYOTA FOR BEING A LOYAL CUSTOMER. I PURCHASED THREE NEW VEHICLES FROM THIS TOYOTA DEALERSHIP (2006, 2007, & 2008). AFTER FIGHTING WITH THE DEALERSHIP AND TOYOTA CORPORATE FOR A DAY AND HALF, I WAS ASKED TO MOVE MY TRUCK OUT OF THEIR SHOP. SO AT MY EXPENSE MY 2006 TUNDRA WAS TOWED BACK TO MY HOUSE (TOYOTA GOING PLACES). WITHOUT EXAGGERATION, A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE GOING TO GET HURT IF FATALITIES DO NOT OCCUR DUE TO THIS DEFECT. THE TRUCK WENT INTO LIMP MODE" REDUCING POWER AND ACCELERATION.. AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, IN TRAFFIC, OR IN REMOTE PLACES, THIS CREATES A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. ISSUE APPEARS TO BE "AIR INJECTION PUMP" AND/OR RELATED VALVES. THIS IS A WELL-DOCUMENTED ISSUE WITH THE TOYOTA TUNDRA ENCOUNTERED BY OWNERS OF THE 2006 TUNDRA, AND SHOULD BE INCLUDED IN AN EARLIER EXPANDED WARRANTY PROGRAM. REPAIRS ARE HOWEVER OUT OF WARRANTY, ARE POTENTIALLY 3-4 THOUSAND DOLLARS AND SHOULD BE COVERED IN PREVIOUS TOYOTA PROGRAM FOR THE 2007 MODEL YEAR. CONTACTED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SUPPORT TO NO AVAIL. *TR
MY 2006 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS EXPERIENCING EXTREME CORROSION OF THE REAR AXLE ASSEMBLY AND SKID PANS. I'VE HAD A MECHANIC INSPECT THE DAMAGE AND HE CONCURRED THAT THE RUST IS FAR WORSE THAN WOULD BE EXPECTED FOR A VEHICLE OF THIS AGE. THE METAL IS PITTED AND FLAKES OF RUST ARE FALLING OFF OF THE REAR AXLE HOUSING. I CONTACTED A LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT INSPECTED BUT THEY WOULD NOT EVEN LOOK AT THE VEHICLE BECAUSE IT IS NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY. FAILURE OF THE REAR AXLE HOUSING POSES A CONSIDERABLE SAFETY RISK. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE WITH 40,000 MILES ON IT AND I LIVE IN AN AREA WHERE SALTS ARE USED LIBERALLY DURING THE WINTER. I'VE GONE TO GREAT LENGTHS TO WASH SALTS OFF MY TRUCK AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, YET THE RUST CONTINUES. *TR
