Took my truck in for maintenance and a bracket was hanging down. Dealer brought me back and showed me corrosion of mid framing and that gas bracket had rotted off. gave me a proposal of over $7000 to repair. I had said to them that I had the frame frame coated during the recall, and why weren't the cross members sprayed at that time. They replied Toyota said it was not needed. Did some research yesterday and found that rusting cross members was a problem, and that tire holders, and gas brackets were a problem. Called Toyota and they explained to me that certain vin #'s were covered but that mine was not. I asked them why my truck with the same issues was not covered? Was told corporate policy. SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SWITCHING VALVE FAILED WHILE CHANGING LANES CAUSING MY VEHICLE TO GO INTO CREEP MODE AND ALMOST CAUSE A COLISION WITH VEHICLE BEHIND ME DUE TO NO POWER. MY UNDERSTANDING IS THAT THIS IS A SERIOUS AND RE OCCURING ISSUE THAT HAS BEEN AROUND FOR SOME TIME AND I AM JUST NOW BEING MADE AWARE OF IT BY TOYOTA WHO CLAIMS THIS IS NOT A SAFETY ISSUE. COULD HAVE DIED IN THIS CAR INCIDENT.
TOYOTA ACKNOWLEDGES A PROBLEM WITH THEIR AIR INTAKE VALVE AND HAS EXTENDED THE WARRANTY PERIOD. THE WARRANTY IS TOO SHORT, TOO LITTLE MILES, AND ONLY COVERS THE REPAIR ONE TIME. MY VEHICLE IS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM FOR THE 3RD TIME EVEN THOUGH THEY CLAIM THAT THEIR REPAIR FIXED THE PROBLEM THE FIRST TIME, AND CLAIMS NO ONE ELSE EXPERIENCED THE PROBLEM A SECOND TIME (ALTHOUGH I HAVE).
APPROXIMATELY TWO WEEKS AGO I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE BALL PARK HERE IN BECKLEY WEST VIRGINIA WHEN I BEGAN TO ACCELERATE MY 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE VEHICLE BEGAN ACCELERATING HIGHER AND HIGHER ON ITS OWN SENDING ME AND MY DAUGHTER ON A 70 MPH RIDE. THE ONLY WAY I COULD STOP WAS TO PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE AND PUT VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL, EVENTUALLY THE PEDAL BECAME UNSTUCK AND I DROVE THE VEHICLE TO MY PLACE OF WORK LESS THAN A MILE AWAY AND PARKED IT. I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY TOWED THE VEHICLE IN. THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AFTER THE SAFETY RECALL. TOYOTA AT THIS TIME CUT THE GAS PEDAL IN TWO AND ADDED CHEAPER FLOOR MATS. THEY SAID THIS WAS THE PROBLEM. TODAY I WAS TAKING MY CHILDREN TO SCHOOL AND WAS GOING UP A HILL. I DEPRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND HAD NO ACCELERATION. I GENTLY ROLLED BACK DOWN THE HILL AND GOT THE VEHICLE ON THE LEVEL AND THEN TOOK ANOTHER ROUTE. I FEEL THIS VEHICLE IS NOT SAFE. ITS NOT THE FLOOR MATS OR THE SIZE OF THE PEDAL IT IS IN THE WIRING, COMPUTER, OR SOMETHING. BOTH INCIDENTS WERE FORTUNATE THAT NO VEHICLE WAS IN FRONT OF ME OR BEHIND ME. I CALLED TOYOTA TODAY ABOUT THIS SECOND INCIDENT AND ALL THEY COULD TELL ME WAS TO CALL THE 1 800 NUMBER. I EXPLAINED I DIDN'T FEEL SAFE IN THIS VEHICLE, KNOWING THAT IM PUTTING MYSELF AND OTHERS ON THE HIGHWAY IN HARMS WAY. THIS IS MY MODE OF TRANSPORTATION SO UNFORTUNATELY I CANT JUST STOP DRIVING IT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE PAINT ON THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE WAS CHIPPING. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 20,000. GOING UP RAMP ONTO HWY 90 AS I WAS TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC THE AIR INJECTION PUMP AND AIR SWITCHING VALVES FAILED AND TRUCK POWER DECREASED TO 30 MILES PER HOUR. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I ALMOST HAD AN ACCIDENT DUE TO THIS ISSUE HAPPENING AT AN INAPPROPRIATE TIME.TOYOTA WILL NOT COVER REPAIR AS THEY SAID DEFECTIVE MANUFACTURE OF SYSTEM NOT COVERED AFTER 150,000 MILES. DEFECT IS THEIR ISSUE AND SHOULD BE RECTIFIED BY THEM AT NO CHARGE TO CUSTOMER AS THIS IS A DRIVING HAZARD THEY HAVE ALREADY ADMITTED TO THE FIRST TIME AT 49,000 MILES. *JS
