TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC STOP, THE BRAKES FAILED, CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO MOVE FORWARD. IN ADDITION, WHILE THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS APPLIED FIRMLY THE VEHICLE THE CRASHED INTO ANOTHER VEHICLE. NO ONE WAS INJURED. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER COULD NOT FIND AN ISSUE WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. THE CONTACT DID NOT HAVE ANY REPAIRS PERFORMED ON THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
PARKED THE CAR, LOCKED IT. ABOUT A MINUTE LATER NOTICED SMOKE, THEN FIRE, VERY INTENSE. THE ENTIRE ENGINE COMPARTMENT WAS DESTROYED (RADIATOR MELTED), FRONT TIRE BURNED, AND THE FIRE DAMAGED DASHBOARD AND INTERIOR AS WELL. A CAR PARKED NEARBY WAS ALSO SCORCHED. *TR
ON OCTOBER 20, 2012, MY WIFE CAME HOME FROM WORK AND STATED THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING PROPERLY (I.E. BRAKE PEDAL DROPPED ALMOST TO THE FLOOR AT TIMES AND BRAKES DID NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY) ON OUR 2010 TOYOTA VENZA AND THAT A MESSAGE WAS ILLUMINATED IN THE CENTER CONSOLE COMPUTER SYSTEM THAT STATED, "BRAKE SYSTEM FAILURE. CONTACT YOUR DEALERSHIP IMMEDIATELY!". I CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP, INFORMED THEM THAT THE BRAKES WERE NOT WORKING CORRECTLY AND OF THE ILLUMINATED MESSAGE, AND WAS INSTRUCTED TO BRING THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP. I DROVE THE VEHICLE INTO THE DEALERSHIP AND ON THE WAY THE BRAKE SYSTEM OCCASIONALLY DID NOT ENGAGE PROPERLY AGAIN (2ND TIME IN SAME DAY). I MANAGED TO CAUTIOUSLY DRIVE TO THE DEALERSHIP AND INFORM THE DEALERSHIP THAT I DID NOT WANT THIS VEHICLE BACK UNTIL THEY WERE ABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM AND FIX THE PROBLEM. ON THE SAME DAY, I WAS INFORMED THAT THE MECHANIC FLUSHED THE BRAKE SYSTEM, TOOK THE VEHICLE FOR A TEST DRIVE, AND THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED FOR A THIRD TIME. I OBSERVED THE MECHANIC PLUG HIS DIAGNOSTIC LAP TOP INTO OUR VEHICLE AND HE WAS UNABLE TO FIND ANY STORED ERRORS IN THE COMPUTER SOFTWARE (DESPITE THE FACT THE VEHICLE'S BRAKE SYSTEM FAILED 3 TIMES ON DIFFERENT OCCASIONS FOR 3 DIFFERENT PEOPLE ON THE SAME DAY). THE DEALERSHIP WAS UNABLE TO IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM, SO ON OCTOBER 22, 2012 THEY CONTACTED TOYOTA CORPORATE'S ENGINEERING DEPARTMENT FOR GUIDANCE. CORPORATE INSTRUCTED THE DEALERSHIP TO REPLACE THE MASTER CYLINDER AND THE ABS ACTUATOR. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THESE PARTS, CONDUCTED A TEST DRIVE, AND RELEASED THIS UNSAFE VEHICLE TO MY WIFE ON OCTOBER 23, 2012 NEVER STATING WHAT CAUSED THE REPEATED BRAKE FAILURE. ON OCTOBER 26, 2012, THE BRAKE SYSTEM AGAIN AND WAS THE CAUSE OF AN ACCIDENT. A FORMAL COMPLAINT WAS FILED WITH TOYOTA CORPORATION AND THEY ARE DENYING LIABILITY. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS 2010 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT A RATTLING NOISE WAS COMING FROM THE STEERING COLUMN WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. NO REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURE WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 37,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 64,000.
I WAS DRIVING AT ABOUT 45 MPH AND WINDSHIELD JUST CRACKED WITHOUT ANYTHING BEING THROWN AT OR ANY ROCK AND DEBRIS HIT. IT IS A ABOUT 4 FEET CRACK. MANY GLASS EXPERTS AGREE THAT IT IS A MATERIAL DEFECT. TALKED TO TOYOTA DELEAR AND THEIR POSITION IS IT CASUED DUE TO ROCK/DEBRIS HIT. *TR
MOVED FROM FLAT INDIANA TO HILLY TENNESSEE. PULLED UP TO TRAFFIC LIGHT AT THE CREST OF A HILL AND THE LIGHT WAS RED. WHEN THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, I MOVED MY FOOT FROM THE BRAKE TO THE ACCELERATOR, AND IN THE TIME IT TOOK TO DO THAT, MY VEHICLE WAS ROLLING BACKWARDS INTO THE CAR BEHIND ME. THERE SHOULD BE A MECHANISM IN PLACE THAT STOPS A VEHICLE FROM ROLLING BACKWARDS IF IT IS IN THE 'DRIVE' GEAR. THANKFULLY THE BRAKES WERE WORKING QUITE WELL! I HAVE TO USE BOTH FEET WHEN STOPPING ON HILLS- 1 ON THE BRAKE AND 1 ON THE ACCELERATOR - AND 2 HANDS ON THE WHEEL - YIKES! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 25 MPH WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED. THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOORBOARD WITH THE ILLUMINATION OF THE BRAKE WARNING LAMP. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE PEDAL AND THE SENSOR COMMUNICATING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED WHO STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALER AND SEND AN ENGINEER TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 15,000. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN SHE APPLIED THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO MOVE. THE ONLY WAY TO BRING THE VEHICLE TO A STOP WAS TO PUMP THE BRAKES. THE CONSUMER STATED THE ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. A MESSAGE THAT READ CHECK CVS ILLUMINATED FOLLOWED BY ANOTHER MESSAGE THAT READ BRAKING SYSTEM FAILURE. THE DEALER STATED THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS DUE TO A FAULTY PEDAL AND SENSOR. THE PART FINALLY ARRIVED AT THE DEALER TWO WEEKS LATER. HOWEVER, THE PROBLEM RESURFACED AGAIN WHILE THE CONSUMER WAS DRIVING. UPDATED 10/26/11
THE HEAD REST ON MY VEHICLE PUSHES MY NECK FORWARD INTO AN EXTREMELY UNCOMFORTABLE POSITION. THIS CANNOT BE ADJUSTED. AS A 5'4" FEMALE, I WAS HAVING TO SEEK MEDICAL TREATMENT FOR NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN FOLLOWING LONG TRIPS. I HAVE REVERSED THE HEAD REST SO THAT I CAN CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR. I AM NOW CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF THIS IN THE EVENT OF AN ACCIDENT (WHIPLASH), BUT FEEL LIKE I HAVE NO CHOICE (SEVERE NECK PAIN WAS INTERFERING WITH ABILITY TO TURN MY HEAD WHILE DRIVING). I ALSO HAD THIS PROBLEM ON MY PREVIOUS CAR, A 2007 AUDI Q7. I ALSO REVERSED THE HEAD REST ON THAT CAR. RESEARCHING THIS ON-LINE, THIS IS AN EXTREMELY COMMON PROBLEM (AND SOLUTION). CAR MANUFACTURERS SHOULD ME MADE AWARE OF THIS PROBLEM AND QUESTIONABLE SOLUTION SO THAT THEY CAN CORRECT THIS.
WHEN MANUALLY CLOSING THE REAR HATCH DOOR LATCH ON THE 2010 TOYOTA VENZA IT AUTO SHUTS AND CAN CAUSE OBJECTS, INCLUDING MY FINGERS, TO BE CAUGHT. IT IS EQUIPPED WITH THE POWER CLOSE FEATURE BUT WHEN YOU CLOSE IT MANUALLY, IT OVERRIDES THE SENSORS THAT WOULD STOP THE CLOSING MECHANISM. I RECENTLY INSTALLED A CARGO MAT AND WHEN MANUALLY SHUTTING THE REAR HATCH DOOR, MY FINGERS WERE CAUGHT BETWEEN THE DOOR AND THE CAR HATCH. IT SHUT FULLY AND CAUGHT ALL 8 FINGERS AND THERE WAS NO OVERRIDE MECHANISM TO STOP THIS FROM OCCURRING. I HAD TO CALL FOR ASSISTANCE AND MY WORRY IS THAT CHILDREN OR ANIMALS WILL EASILY BE CAUGHT AND SEVERE INJURIES WILL BE INCURRED. I REPORTED THIS TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND THEY ARE WORKING ON A RESOLUTION, BUT THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY PROBLEMATIC FEATURE THAT SHOULD BE RESEARCHED AND ENHANCED FOR SAFETY REASONS. *TR
ON MY 2010 TOYOTA VENZA, MY WIFE INJURED HER HAND WHEN SHE WAS CLOSING THE TAILGATE AND THE POWER MOTOR WHICH PULL THE TAILGATE SHUT TRAPPED HER HAND UNDER PRESSURE BETWEEN THE TAILGATE AND THE FLOOR OF THE CAR. SHE NEEDED ME TO RELEASE THE TAILGATE TO FREE HER HAND. PRESSURE INJURY TO HAND. *TR
I WAS THE DRIVER IN A REAR-END COLLISION. I REAR-ENDED A CAR GOING APPROX. 20-25 MILES PER HOUR AND NEITHER THE PASSENGER OR DRIVERS AIR BAG DEPLOYED THE CAR I STRUCK WAS NOT MOVING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL FAILED. THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SYSTEM WOULD ENGAGE WHEN MAKING TURNS AND THE VEHICLE WOULD BEGIN TO PULL OFF OF THE ROADWAY. IN ORDER TO CORRECT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON EIGHT OCCASIONS, WHERE THEY WERE UNABLE TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE STABILITY CONTROL SENSOR WAS REPROGRAMMED AND REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,400 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 14,000. UPDATED 09/02/11*LJ THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, THE VSC LIGHT ILLUMINATED AND THERE WAS A DRAGGING SOUND. THE VEHICLE THEN PULLED BACK IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. AT TIMES, THE VSC LIGHT WOULD STAY ON FOR A WHILE AND THEN GO OFF, OTHER TIMES IT WOULD STAY ON AND THE MASTER WARNING LIGHT WOULD ILLUMINATE. THE ABS WOULD ENGAGE AND THE VEHICLE WOULD OVER CORRECT. ON SEPTEMBER 14, 2010 MY HUSBAND AND I WERE DRIVING OUR 2010 TOYOTA VENZA ON RTE. 19S, IN FAYETTE, WEST VIRGINIA. WE ACCELERATED OUR VENZA TO MATCH ONGOING TRAFFIC SPEEDS, WHEN THE THROTTLE STUCK WIDE OPEN AND WAS INCREASING IN SPEED. I STEPPED ON THE BRAKES, WHICH FAILED TO RESPOND. I THEN CHECKED THE CRUISE CONTROL, TO SEE IF I HAD INADVERTENTLY ENGAGED IT, BUT I HAD NOT. I THEN STARTED TO PUMP THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH EXTREME FORCE, AND AFTER NUMEROUS PUMPS, THE THROTTLE DISENGAGED. AS SOON AS IT WAS SAFE, WE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, AND CALLED OUR DEALERSHIP, COURTESY TOYOTA. THEY INSTRUCTED US TO CALL 1(800)331-4331 TO REPORT THE INCIDENT AND HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO THE NEAREST TOYOTA DEALER. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO L&S TOYOTA CITY IN BECKLEY, WV, WHERE THEY PROCEEDED TO PERFORM AN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION INSPECTION, BUT THE TECH WAS UNABLE TO DUPLICATE THE ISSUE. THEY PERFORMED THE RECALL OF THE PEDAL RESHAPING, WHICH WE HAD NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY NOTIFIED OF, AND CLEARED THE VEHICLE FOR RELEASE TO US, AT THIS TIME, AND ADVISED US THAT IF THIS SHOULD REOCCUR, TO SHIFT THE VEHICLE INTO NEUTRAL AND SLOW THE CAR BY BRAKING. THE ISSUE WAS NOT RELATED TO THE PEDAL SHAPE OR THE DRIVER MAT, AND WAS IN FACT A COMPUTER ANOMALY. WHEN THE ANOMALY OCCURRED, IT FROZE THE THROTTLE AND BLOCKED THE BRAKING SYSTEM.. FURTHER MORE, THE IDEA TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL IS UNSAFE, AS THERE WERE NO BRAKES TO SLOW THE VEHICLE TO A STOP AND WOULD CONTINUE TO COAST ONWARD AT AN UNCONTROLLABLE VELOCITY. I EXPECT THAT TOYOTA COMPANY KNOWS THE DEFECT LIES IN THE COMPUTER CONTROL SYSTEM, BUT MAY WELL BELIEVE THE COST OF CLAIMS AND HUMAN LIVES IS CHEAPER THAN FIXING THE VERY REAL PROBLEM. WE PURCHASED THE TOYOTA VENZA MARCH 30, 2010 AND WERE ASSURED THAT, AT THAT TIME, THERE WERE NO RECALLS FOR IT. THE RECALL FOR OUR VENZA WAS ISSUED MARCH 16, 2010, WHICH HAD NOT BEEN PERFORMED ON OUR CAR, AND WE HAD NOT BEEN AWARE OF ONE UNTIL OUR VERY TRAUMATIC EXPERIENCE OCCURRED. *TR
I WAS DRIVING A 2010 TOYOTA VENZA, AND WAS HEAVILY PRESSING ON THE ACCELERATOR TO GAIN SPEED TO MERGE ONTO THE EXPRESS WAY, WHEN MY CAR KEPT ACCELERATING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED, EVEN AFTER I TOOK MY FOOT AWAY FROM THE ACCELERATOR, APPROX 80 MPH. THE ONLY THING I CAN COMPARE IT TO, IS IT FELT LIKE THE CAR'S CRUISE CONTROL ENGAGED ON IT'S OWN AND TOOK OVER, BUT, KEPT ACCELERATING. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE BUT SINCE THE CAR WAS ACCELERATING AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED IT WAS HARD TO KEEP IT PRESSED, SO I USED BOTH FEET AND ALL MY LEG STRENGTH AND HELD THE BRAKE TO THE FLOOR. IT SLOWED THE SPEED A LITTLE. IT TOOK APPROXIMATELY OVER A 1/4 MILE, LESS THEN A 1/2 MILE, BEFORE THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL DISENGAGED. I COULD NOT SEARCH FOR NEUTRAL IMMEDIATELY BECAUSE I WAS WATCHING TRAFFIC AND MANEUVERING AWAY FROM TRAFFIC ENTERING AND EXITING THE EXPRESSWAY. NEUTRAL ON THE VENZA IS NOT A STRAIGHT SHIFT. YOU HAVE TO SHIFT LEFT AND THEN UP TO FIND NEUTRAL. MOST CARS IS ITS A STRAIGHT SHIFT. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 35 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO PASS ANOTHER VEHICLE WHEN HER VEHICLE ABNORMALLY ACCELERATED UP TO 55 MPH. THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO BRAKE BUT TO NO AVAIL. SHE CONTINUED TO APPLY ABRUPT PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES AS HE MANEUVERED THE VEHICLE FROM CRASHING. THE CONTACT WAS FINALLY ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE AND THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,700 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 11,819. UPDATED 12/08/10. *LJ THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONSUMER TO TURN THE VEHICLE OFF AND THE COMPUTER WOULD RESET ITSELF. UPDATED 12/13/10
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT STATED WHEN UTILIZING THE RADIO DURING DAYLIGHT, HE WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE STATIONS DUE TO LIMITED ILLUMINATION. THE DEALER ADVISED HE WAS UNABLE TO REPAIR THE VEHICLE. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THAT IF HE WOULD SHUT OFF THE HEADLIGHTS, THE RADIO LIGHTS WOULD INTENSIFY. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 700.
WHILE MERGING ONTO HIGHWAY, ACCELERATOR BECAME STUCK AND APPLYING BRAKE WOULD NOT SLOW CAR. HAD TO USE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO SLOW VEHICLE AND MOVE TO SHOULDER. *TR
TOYOTA VENZA. THE REAR HATCH IS AUTO OPEN/CLOSE. USING THE AUTO CLOSING BUTTON ON THE DASH OF THE VEHICLE, I INITIATED THE CLOSE SEQUENCE. THE REAR HATCH STARTED TO CLOSE NORMALLY, THEN IT "SLAMMED SHUT" WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO CAUSE SERIOUS INJURY TO ANYONE UNDER THE HATCH. SUBSEQUENT ATTEMPTS AT OPENING OR CLOSING THE HATCH RESULTED IN A "STUTTER" EFFECT WHICH REQUIRED ME TO CLOSE THE HATCH MANUALLY. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER. THEY TOLD ME THAT I SHOULD NOT SLAM THE HATCH SHUT. I HAVE NEVER SLAMMED THE HATCH, I ALWAYS USE THE BUTTON ON THE DASH OR THE KEY FOB TO OPEN/ CLOSE THE HATCH. THE ROD IS NOW BENT THAT HOLDS THE HATCH OPEN. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL HAPPEN AGAIN WHEN I AM UNDER THE HATCH. THIS COULD RESULT IN THE LOSS OF A LIMB IF CIRCUMSTANCES WERE CORRECT. *TR
SEATBELT OF 2010 TOYOTA VENZA GOT CAUGHT AROUND MY 3 YEAR OLD'S NECK. SEATBELT WOULD NOT GIVE SLACK TO REMOVE AND TIGHTENED AS IT RETRACTED BACK INTO DOOR. HAD TO CUT SEATBELT IN ORDER TO REMOVE FROM CHILD'S NECK. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT LEASED A 2009 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING UP A HILL AND ATTEMPTING TO BRAKE, THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO IDLE. SHE SHIFTED INTO NEUTRAL AND THEN PARK BUT THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO IDLE. SHE HAD TO PRESS THE SMART BUTTON TO TURN OFF THE VEHICLE; EVEN AFTER TURNING THE VEHICLE OFF, IT TOOK SEVERAL MINUTES TO COMPLETELY TURN OFF. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALERSHIP BUT THE DEALER COULD NOT PRODUCE A FAILURE CODE. THE DEALER ATTRIBUTED THE FAILURE TO DRIVER ERROR AND THE CONTACT FILED A COMPLAINT WITH THE MANUFACTURER. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 9,130.
2 WEEKS AFTER BUYING A 2010 TOYOTA VENZA THE SUNROOF EXPLODED WITH NO REASON. THERE WAS NO SCRATCH MARKS. IT WAS SOMETHING FROM INSIDE OUT. IN MY OPINION IT WAS CAUSED BY THE HEAT. THE CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE EXPOSED TO SUN ALL DAY. TOYOTA AT FIRST REFUSED TO PAY THE REPAIR. BUT NOW THEY ARE REPLACING THE SUNROOF BUT STILL WITHOUT CHECKING THE REASON FOR THE INCIDENT. THE NOISE WAS SO STRONG AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. *TR
I HAVE A 2010 FWD VENZA WITH 2000 MILES. THIS PAST WEEKEND WE HAD FOUR SEPARATE INSTANCES OF THE UNEXPECTED ENGINE REVVING. AFTER TAKING FOOT OFF GAS AND APPLYING BRAKE LIGHTLY, PREPARING FOR A FULL BRAKE. THE ENGINE 'REVVED' FOR APPROXIMATELY 1-2 SECONDS. ODDLY, NO ACCELERATION OCCURRED IN THE VEHICLE. THIS OCCURRED IN RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOODS, TYPICAL SPEED 25-35. THE HAPPENED ONCE WITH ME AND THREE TIMES WITH MY WIFE. PLAN TO TAKE VEHICLE TO DEALER AND CALL TOYOTA CONSUMER EXPERIENCE HOTLINE. *TR
AT 2 PM TODAY, I HAD JUST RETURNED FROM RUNNING ERRANDS AND WAS PULLING INTO MY DRIVEWAY AND PUSHED THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER. AT THAT POINT, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL; I WAS COASTING AT A VERY LOW SPEED WITH THE NATURAL FORWARD MOVEMENT OF THE CAR CARRYING ME INTO THE GARAGE (MY DRIVEWAY IS ONLY ABOUT TWO-CAR-LENGTHS LONG). AS I NEARED THE GARAGE DOOR, NOW HALFWAY OPEN, MY CAR SUDDENLY REVVED TO A HIGH SPEED AND WAS HEADED STRAIGHT TOWARD SMASHING INTO THE GARAGE DOOR. AS I SAID, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND SO I THEN PUT THE OTHER FOOT ON THE BRAKE AS WELL. THEN, I SLAMMED THE CAR INTO NEUTRAL AND HEARD THE ENGINE JUST REV AT A VERY HIGH SPEED. I THEN SLAMMED THE CAR INTO REVERSE THEN PARK, AGAIN HEARING THE ENGINE REV AT A HIGH SPEED. I THEN PUSHED THE BUTTON TO SHUT THE CAR OFF. I IMMEDIATELY LOOKED DOWN AND SAW THAT THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT STUCK ON ANY FLOOR MAT. AND, AS I SAID, MY FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE AND NOT ON THE GAS PEDAL. I THEN SAT THERE FOR A FEW MINUTES WITH MY HEART RACING, THINKING THAT IF THIS HAD HAPPENED TWO MINUTES AGO WHILE ON THE ROAD, I COULD HAVE BEEN KILLED. OR, IF I HADN'T BEEN QUICK TO ACT PROPERLY, MY CAR WOULD HAVE ENDED UP IN MY FAMILY ROOM'WHAT IF I DIDN'T HAVE MY FOOT ALREADY ON THE BRAKE'SURELY I WOULDN'T HAVE BEEN ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE AS QUICKLY. I FELT JUST LIKE THE WOMAN AT THE CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS, IN TEARS, DESCRIBING HER EXPERIENCE WITH HER LEXUS. THE CAR SUDDENLY REVVED TO A HIGH SPEED, AND WOULDN'T SLOW DOWN IN NEUTRAL OR REVERSE OR PARK. SHUTTING OFF THE ENGINE WAS THE ONLY OPTION TO MAKE THE HIGH-SPEED THROTTLING TO STOP. THESE FACTS ARE CLEAR: 'THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT STUCK ON ANY FLOOR MAT 'THE GAS PEDAL WAS NOT DEPRESSED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION 'THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED IMMEDIATELY PRIOR TO THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION 'THE SUDDEN ACCELERATION WAS AT VERY HIGH RPM'S 'THE HIGH RPM'S WOULDN'T STOP UNTIL THE ENGINE WAS SHUT OFF. *TR

S10 APPROPRIATE HANDLING RE INCIDENT OF SUDDEN UNINTENDED ACCELERATION FM OWNER OF A 2010 TOYOTA VENZA. *KB AS THE CONSUMER WAS PULLING INTO HIS DRIVEWAY, HE PUSHED THE GARAGE DOOR OPENER BUTTON AND SUDDENLY THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED AT A GREAT SPEED, NEARLY CRASHING INTO THE OPENING OF THE GARAGE DOOR. THE VEHICLE WAS REVVING AT 5,000 RPM'S AND HE IMMEDIATELY PUT BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKES, JAMMED IT INTO NEUTRAL, THEN REVERSE, THEN PARK. IN PARK, THE ENGINE WAS STILL REVVING AT A VERY HIGH SPEED AND SO THE CONSUMER SHUT THE ENGINE OFF. HE IMMEDIATELY LOOKED DOWN TO SEE IF THE ACCELERATOR WAS STUCK UNDER THE MAT, AND IT WAS NOT. THE GAS PEDAL WAS NO WHERE NEAR ANY FLOOR MAT AND THE VEHICLE WAS BARELY MOVING AT THE TIME. HIS FOOT WAS ON THE BRAKE, NOT THE ACCELERATOR AND THE VEHICLE WAS COASTING INTO THE GARAGE. *JB

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 TOYOTA VENZA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE RADIO GOT HOT UP 145 DEGREES. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER TWICE. THE DEALER REPLACED THE RADIO BUT THAT DID NOT REMEDY THE ISSUE WITH THE TEMPERATURE OF THE RADIO. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE BACK TO THE DEALER AND THE DEALER INFORMED THE CONTACT THERE IS NOTHING THEY CAN DO. THE CONTACT STATED THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE BECAUSE THE RADIO COULD CAUSE A FIRE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 1,050.
THIS PROBLEM WHICH I HAVE NOTICED IN MY NEW 2010 TOYOTA VENZA IS SIMILAR TO THE PROBLEM BEING REPORTED IN THE 2010 PRIUS WITH THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. WHAT I HAVE OBSERVED IS FREQUENT JERKS WHICH CAN BE TERMED AS INCONSISTENT BRAKE FEEL DURING SLOW AND STEADY APPLICATION OF BRAKES ON SLICK ROAD. THIS HAPPENED ON THE DAY WHEN IT SNOWED HERE IN COLUMBUS OHIO THIS JANUARY. I DO NOT RECALL THE EXACT DATE BUT THERE RESULT OF THE ACTION OF APPLYING BRAKE DID NOT IMMEDIATELY STOP THE CAR AND RESULTED IN A DRAG. SURPRISINGLY, THE JERKS ON APPLICATION ON THE BRAKE SHOCK ME AND I FELT AS IF THERE WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE BRAKING SYSTEM. I AM NOT CERTAIN IF THIS IS A PROBLEM THAT IS EXACTLY SIMILAR TO WHAT PEOPLE HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING WITH 2010 PRIUS BUT 2010 VENZA IS A NEW MODEL OF CARS INTRODUCED BY TOYOTA IN THE LAST YEAR AND I AM SUSPECTING THIS COULD BE THE ISSUE. I WILL MAKE A VISIT TO THE DEALERSHIP THIS WEEKEND TO DISCUSS THIS ISSUE ALONG WITH THE RECALL OF THE FLOOR MAT BUT I AM HOPING THIS IS NOT OVERLOOKED. *TR
2010 TOYOTA VENZA SUDDEN ACCELERATED*CW THE CONSUMER MOVED INTO THE LEFT TURNING LANE AT A FOUR-WAY STOP LIGHT TO MAKE A LEFT TURN. HE SLOWED DOWN TO MAKE THE TURN; AND AFTER MAKING THE TURN, HE THEN DEPRESSED THE ACCELERATOR TO PROCEED AND THE VEHICLE APPEARED TO SHIFT INTO NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE REVVED. THE CONSUMER THEN APPLIED THE BRAKES, BUT WHEN HE DID THEY DID NOT WORK AND THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONSUMER PANICKED AND THEN APPLIED THE ACCELERATOR AGAIN AND THE ENGINE REVVED AS IF IT WERE IN NEUTRAL. THE TRANSMISSION DID ENGAGE, BUT IT FELT AS THOUGH IT WAS SLIPPING. THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED WHILE BACKING OUT OF THE GARAGE, HE HAD TROUBLE BRAKING AND THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED. HE HAD TO APPLY THE EMERGENCY BRAKE TO STOP THE VEHICLE.*JB
