ON THE TOYOTA YARIS 2007 THE ACCELERATOR SENSOR ASSEMBLY IS MADE OF PLASTIC. AS I WOULD GO AROUND CORNERS THE CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE EVEN IF I PUSHED THE PEDAL ALL THE WAY DOWN. THE CAR WOULD BECOME A VIRTUAL SLUG THEN ACCELERATE QUICKLY. BECAUSE OF THE POOR DESIGN THE ELECTRIC CONNECTIONS CANNOT MAKE GOOD CONTACT GOING AROUND CORNERS, UP HILL OR FROM A DEAD STOP.THIS ALMOST CAUSED ME TO BE HIT SEVERAL TIMES. I TOOK IT IN TO BE REPAIRED ($215.95) YET BEING OF PLASTIC IT CAN HAPPEN AGAIN. THIS DEFECT HAS CAUSED SOME TO BELIEVE THE CAR IS ACCELERATING BY ITSELF WHEN IN REALITY ITS SIMPLY STALLING (BAD CONNECTION) THEN KICKING IN TO ACCELERATE - *TR
I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY, GOING AROUND 60 MPH, WHEN THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW EXPLODED. THERE DID NOT SEEM TO BE ANYTHING THAT HIT THE WINDOW AND THERE WASN'T A NOISE BEFORE THE EXPLOSION. NOTHING ELSE IN THE CAR WAS DAMAGED. *TR
EXPERIENCED FAILURE OF EMISSIONS EVAP SYSTEM DUE TO WATER INTRUSION THROUGH POORLY DESIGNED COMPONENTS. CHECK ENGINE LAMP (CEL) ILLUMINATED CONSTANT ON DURING HIGHWAY TRAVEL. STORED DTCS OF P043E, P043F, P2401, P2402, AND P2419. INTERNET SEARCH REVELED EXISTING ISSUE IN TSB EG048-07 WHICH NOTES WATER ENTERS FILLER PIPE COVER, CONTAMINATES CANISTER FILTER, THEN DAMAGES THE EVAP PUMP LOCATED IN CHARCOAL CANISTER. REPAIR REQUIRES AN UPDATED FILLER COVER ($6), REPLACEMENT OF FILTER ($50), NEW CANISTER ($600), PLUS 0.5HR OF LABOR CHARGES. APPLICABLE WARRANTY IS 3YEAR/36000MILES. DURING REPAIR REPLACED FILLER COVER, FILTER, THEN CLEANED ENTIRE SYSTEM OF WATER. NOTE: THIS YARIS WAS ALREADY BUILT USING THE UPDATED FILLER COVER P/N. YARIS FAILED THE FOLLOWING TEST DRIVE DONE IN ATTEMPT TO AVOID EXPENSIVE CANISTER REPLACEMENT. FOLLOWED TOYOTA SERVICE MANUAL TO TROUBLESHOOT CANISTER WHICH LEAD TO PERMANENT DAMAGE. THREE BOLTS ATTACH THE PUMP VALVE TO THE CANISTER VIA PLASTIC THREADED INSERTS. THESE INSERTS STRIPPED INSIDE THE PLASTIC, RENDERING THE CANISTER UNUSABLE. REPLACING WITH NEW CANISTER AND RETESTING FOR REPAIR. THIS PORTION OF THE EMISSIONS SYSTEM IS RELATED TO A MANDATED REQUIREMENT. THIS FAILURE SHOULD BE COVERED UNDER THE LONGER TERM EMISSIONS WARRANTY PERIOD AND NOT THIS SHORTER TERM PERIOD. FAILURE OF A $6 COMPONENT RESULTING IN VICTIM FAILURES OF $650 IN ADDITIONAL COMPONENTS IS IRRITATING TO THE CONSUMER AND IRRESPONSIBLE OF THE MANUFACTURER. CUSTOMER HAS ALREADY NOTED THAT THIS EVENT WILL AFFECT (NEGATIVELY) FUTURE VEHICLE PURCHASE DECISIONS. NOTE: THIS FAILURE DOES NOT SEEM TO AFFECT MPG OR OPERATION BUT DOES ILLUMINATE THE CEL. CONSUMERS MIGHT OPERATE W/O REPAIR WHICH WILL CONDITION THEM TO ACCEPT AN ILLUMINATED CEL. THEY MIGHT NOT BE NOTIFIED OF OTHER OBD MALFUNCTIONS AND PARTIALLY DISABLED EMISSIONS CONTROL SYSTEM. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA YARIS. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 40 MPH, THE CONTACT FELL ASLEEP AND LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO TREES. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED A COMPRESSED SPINAL FRACTURE AND WHIPLASH INJURIES THAT REQUIRED MEDICAL ATTENTION. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V168000 (AIR BAGS). THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 36,218.

BOLTS THAT HOLDS A-ARMS ARE GONE RUSTED COMPLETELY OFF SUSPENSION IS POPPING TOYOTA REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM EVEN AFTER KNOWING IT?S A MANUFACTURING DEFECT ESTIMATED COST FOR REPAIR IS 2,500+ FOR A 7 YEAR OLD CAR THAT ONLY HAS 132K MILES. *TR

THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH AND DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL, THE VEHICLE HESITATED AND THERE WAS A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC, WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE LOWER CONTROL ARM FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 131,000.
I RECEIVED A SAFETY RECALL NOTICE REGARDING THE AIR BAGS ON OUR TOYOTA YARIS AND TOOK THE VEHICLE IN FOR REPAIR TO TOYOTA OF NEW BERN, 5010 HIGHWAY 70 EAST, NEW BERN, NC, 252 637 7200. THE RECALL SPECIFIED A SPIRAL CABLE REPLACEMENT. SUBSEQUENTLY, TOYOTA OF NEW BERN SERVICE SAID THEY REPLACED THE CABLE BUT THAT ANOTHER PROBLEM PREVENTED THEM FROM REPAIRING THE DRIVER'S SIDE AIRBAG. THE COST TO REPAIR THIS DEFECT WOULD RUN $1,600, I WAS TOLD. I CALLED CORPORATE TOYOTA WHICH REITERATED THAT REPAIRS COULD NOT BE MADE WITHOUT PAYMENT FOR REPAIR OF A BROKEN WIRE BEHIND INTERIOR TRIM WITHIN THE CAR. I AM SOMEWHAT AT A LOSS SINCE THERE IS NOT SIGN OF ANY DAMAGE TO INTERIOR TRIM SUFFICIENT TO BREAK WIRES BEHIND IT. AND FRANKLY I HAVE ONLY THE WORD OF TOYOTA THAT THEY DID INDEED REPLACE THE SPIRAL CABLE. THE DRIVER SIDE AIRBAG REMAINS INOPERATIVE UNTIL THIS ISSUE IS RESOLVED, A RISK TO SAFETY AND A DETRIMENT TO ANY FUTURE SALE OF THE VEHICLE. . *TR

THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS STAYS ON AND I RECEIVED A INTERIM RECALL NOTICE IN MAIL FOR SPIRAL CABLE. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR INSPECTION AND THEY SAID CLOCK SPRING IS CAUSING THE AIRBAG LIGHT TO STAY ON. I DO NOT BELIEVE THEM. BOTH THE CLOCK SPRING AND THE SPIRAL CABLE ARE BEHIND THE STEERING WHEEL. NOW THEY WANT $500.00 TO FIX. I BELIEVE THE DEALERSHIP IS AVOIDING TO FIX THE RECALL REPLACEMENT. *TR

THE DRIVER SEAT MOVED FORWARD WHILE THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE AIR BAG DEPLOYED. THE DEPLOYMENT INJURED THE CONTACT'S RIGHT BREAST. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V169000 (SEATS) AFTER THE CRASH OCCURRED. THE MANUFACTURER REPLACED THE DRIVER SEAT RAIL AND CONCLUDED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER DENIED THAT THE DRIVER SEAT MOVED FORWARD DURING THE CRASH. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.
AS I WAS DRIVING THIS PAST WINTER THE ABS REQUIRED MAINTENANCE AND PARKING BRAKE CAME ILLUMINATED AT THE SAME TIME. I THOUGHT IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN A FROZEN CONNECTOR SINCE THE WINTER HAS BEEN VERY COLD AND BAD THIS YEAR. THE SPEED SENSOR PIG TAIL AND THE REAR WHEEL BEARING WENT OUT. THIS PART WAS CORODED AND FULL OF DIRT AND GRIME. EVEN THE WIRES WERE DISENGRATED. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO OTHER YARIS OWNERS TO THAT I HAVE READ ON HERE. THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL. THE AIR BAG ALERT BAG COMES ON SOLID. THERE HAS BEEN A NATIONAL RECALL ON THIS SINCE APRIL. I HAVE CONTACTED MY DEALER AND THEY HAVE STATED THAT THE COMPANY (TOYOTA) HAS NOT DECIDED WHAT PARTS NEED TO BE REPLACED. SINCE THIS IS A SAFETY RECALL (SINCE APRIL) I FEEL THAT THE SAFETY OF MYSELF AND MY FAMILY ARE IN JEOPARDY. AS THE NATL.HWY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMIN, I FEEL YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO ENFORCE THE RECALL AND MAKE TOYOTA TAKE CARE OF THEIR CUSTOMERS. *TR
DROVE CAR TO TRAIN STATION DURING SNOW STORM. VEHICLE SAT PARKED ALL DAY. CLEANED OFF SNOW THAT EVENING AND BEGAN DRIVE HOME. SEVERAL MINUTES INTO TRIP BOTH ABS AND BRAKE LIGHTS ILLUMINATED. CHECKED PARKING BRAKE AND FOUND TO BE NOT ENGAGED. PUMPED BRAKES AND APPEARED NORMAL OPERATION. LATER CHECKED BRAKE FLUID AND AGAIN APPEARED NORMAL LEVEL. BOTH LIGHTS STAYED CONSTANTLY ILLUMINATED FOR THREE DAYS. CURRENTLY BOTH LIGHTS COLLECTIVELY ALTERNATE BETWEEN ON AND OFF DURING VEHICLE OPERATION.

BOTH THE PARKING BRAKE AND ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM [ABS] INDICATOR LIGHTS ILLUMINATED WHILE DRIVING AND WITH THE PARKING BRAKE NOT ENGAGED. THE LIGHTS REMAINED ILLUMINATED. *TR UPON INSPECTION OF THE REAR SKID CONTROL SENSOR AND SKID CONTROL SENSOR WIRE [PART OF THE ABS], I FOUND BOTH THE PASSENGER AND DRIVER'S SIDE ASSEMBLIES TO BE VERY WET AND DIRTY WITH MUD BOTH INSIDE AND OUTSIDE THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR BETWEEN THE WIRE AND THE SENSOR ITSELF ON THE HUB ASSEMBLY. ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE, THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTOR PINS WERE BADLY CORRODED. SO MUCH SO, IN FACT, THAT ONE OF THE PINS WAS BROKEN AND PARTIALLY DISINTEGRATED. WITH THE CONNECTION BEING CORRODED AND BROKEN, THE ABS WILL NOT FUNCTION. THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS FOR THE SKID CONTROL SENSOR ARE NOT PROTECTED BY ANY SORT OF GUARD OR BOOT, THEY'RE JUST REGULAR, PLASTIC-HOUSING CONNECTORS WITH NO WATERPROOFING, YET THEY'RE IN A LOCATION ON THE VEHICLE WHICH IS VERY MUCH EXPOSED TO RAIN, SNOW, MUD, ETC. DURING NORMAL DRIVING CONDITIONS. THE CONNECTORS ARE VERY VULNERABLE TO CORROSION AND DAMAGE FROM THE ELEMENTS BEING EXPOSED IN THIS WAY AND THEIR PREMATURE FAILURE DUE TO THIS EXPOSURE CAUSES A LOSS OF A SAFETY FEATURE OF THE VEHICLE, THE ABS.
TAKATA RECALL, 2 YEAR WAIT FOR REPAIR. UNBELIEVABLE. WHEN CAN THE REPAIRS BE EXPECTED?
THE ABS SENSORS ON BOTH BACK TIRES FAILED SPONTANEOUSLY (DETERMINED UPON OBD CODE READING FROM SERVICE STATION) RESULTING IN THE DASHBOARD 'BRAKE' AND 'ABS' LIGHTS ILLUMINATING INTERMITTENTLY. SINCE THIS SPONTANEOUS FAILURE ABS WOULD ACTIVATE AT INAPPROPRIATE TIMES AND AT OTHER TIMES FAIL TO ACTIVATE WHEN IT SHOULD HAVE. THIS CREATED A MAJOR POTENTIAL SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
12/21/13: THE WEATHER CONDITIONS WERE 35F AND RAINING. AFTER A TRIP OF ABOUT 8 MILES MY CAR WAS PARKED OUTSIDE FOR A COUPLE HOURS. UPON STARTING THE CAR FOR MY RETURN TRIP I NOTICED THAT THE DASH INDICATORS FOR ABS AND BRAKE WERE LIT AND REMAINED LIT THROUGH THE DURATION OF MY TRIP OF ABOUT 8 MILES. THESE INDICATORS HAVE NEVER DONE THIS BEFORE. 12/22/13: (NEXT DAY) WHEN I STARTED THE CAR THE INDICATORS WERE AGAIN LIT AND REMAINED LIT. HOWEVER, AFTER DRIVING A COUPLE MILES I NOTICED THAT THE INDICATORS WERE NO LONGER LIT. RESEARCH HAS INDICATED A KNOWN ISSUE WITH THE CONNECTORS TO THE ABS SENSORS IN THE REAR WHEELS FOR WHICH TOYOTA EVENTUALLY RELEASED A TECHNICAL BULLETIN. IN LATER YEARS THE CONNECTORS WERE REDESIGNED TO BE MORE RESISTANT TO WATER AND SNOW. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OCCURRENCES OF THIS PROBLEM IN THE NORTHERN US AND CANADA. I FEEL THAT TOYOTA SHOULD ISSUE AN EXTENDED RECALL FOR THIS PROBLEM AS THEY DID FOR THE ISSUE WITH THE CORRODED SUSPENSION BOLTS. *TR

I PURCHASED MY YARIS NEW IN 2007. IT NOW HAS 107,000 MILES ON IT AND THE AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT HAS COME ON. DEALER IS TELLING ME THE SPIRAL CABLE FOR AIRBAG IS SHORTED AND NEEDS REPAIR - WHICH WILL BE ABOUT $500+ TO FIX, TO ENSURE DEPLOYMENT IF NEEDED. LOOKING ONLINE I SEE OTHER YARIS OWNERS WITH THIS ISSUE, AND OTHER TOYOTA VEHICLES WITH THIS SAME ISSUE, AND SOME RECALLS. I AM VERY CONCERNED AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND I FEEL A DEFECT IN ENGINEERING THAT SHOULD HAVE A RECALL FOR YARIS ALSO. TOYOTA RESPONDED WITH AN OFFER TO PAY $200 TO ASSIST IN GETTING IT REPAIRED OR A SPECIAL OFFER TO BUY ANOTHER TOYOTA NEW - I TOOK NEITHER OPTION BELIEVING THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR FREE REPAIR, NOT COST ME $300 PLUS. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNED A 2007 TOYOTA YARIS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE BRAKES FAILED AND THE STEERING LOCKED. AS A RESULT, THE CONTACT CRASHED THE VEHICLE INTO THE REAR OF THE PRECEDING VEHICLE. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE CONTACT SUSTAINED BURNS ON THE CHEST, A CUT ON THE LIP, AND A BRUISED RIGHT ARM AND LEG. MEDICAL ATTENTION WAS RECEIVED. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED AND THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED. THE VEHICLE WAS INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V169000 (SEATS). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
LAST FALL, MY YARIS' AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR. THEY SAID THEY FIXED THE SPIRAL CABLE, LEADING TO THE AIR BAG. I ASKED WHY IT HAD HAPPENED AND THEY DID NOT KNOW. THE REPAIR WAS AROUND $600. TODAY, I HEARD ABOUT THE RECALL FOR AIR BAG LIGHTS COMING ON IN THE YARIS AND I CALLED THE CORPORATE TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND WAS TOLD THE RECALL DOES NOT COVER MY CAR BECAUSE IT DID NOT HAVE A "7 CHANNEL SPIRAL CABLE," EVEN THOUGH THE REPAIR TO MY CAR WAS FOR THE SPIRAL CHANNEL. I AM CONCERNED THAT NOT ALL YARIS' ARE BEING INCLUDED IN THE RECALL AND THAT MY CAR IS NOT SAFE. (AS OF NOW, THEY DO NOT EVEN HAVE A FIX FOR THE 7-CHANNEL SPIRAL CHANNEL RECALL.) *TR
WATER DRAIN FOR A/C SYSTEM CONDENSER CLOGGED. HAS HAPPENED EVERY SUMMER SINCE PURCHASE IN 2007. WATER FILLS THE DRAIN, AND GETS TRAPPED WITHIN THE UNIT LEADING TO AN OVERFLOW ONTO THE BLOWER AND BLOWER MOTOR SHORTING THE RELAYS. FUSES ARE BLOWN, AND THE BLOWER MOTOR NEEDS REPLACING. ON THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 19, 2013, WHILE TURNING MY STEERING WHEEL AND ATTEMPTING TO PARK MY 2007 TOYOTA YARIS I HEARD A LOUD CRACK. I KNEW SOMETHING WAS DEFINITELY WRONG AND QUICKLY REALIZED THAT A CONNECTION BETWEEN THE STEERING COLUMN AND THE WHEEL HAD BROKEN AS THE STEERING PIECE WAS NO LONGER TURNING THE WHEELS. IN FACT, THE STEERING PIECE JUST SPUN AROUND 360 DEGREES. I LEFT MY CAR IN PARK AND CALLED A FRIEND WHO REALLY KNOWS CARS. UPON EXAMINING THE CAR, HE IMMEDIATELY SAID THAT SOMETHING WAS SERIOUSLY WRONG WITH THAT TOYOTA PART AND IT NEVER SHOULD HAVE BROKEN ESPECIALLY BECAUSE THE PART IS COVERED BY A PROTECTIVE BOOT AND IS NOT LOCATED IN THE FRONT OF THE CAR. IF I HAD BEEN ON THE HIGHWAY, I COULD HAVE DIED. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT BECAUSE THE PART IS NOT YET ON THE RECALL LIST AND MY CAR HAD OVER 60,000 THEY TOLD ME THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY NEARLY $2,000 FOR THE REPAIR. I BELIEVE THAT THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH A TOYOTA PART THAT SHOULD BE ADDED TO THE RECALL LIST AND I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THE REPLACEMENT OF THE PART.

ON 16 AUGUST, 2013, WHILE TURNING INTO A GARAGE PARKING SPOT I TOOK MY FOOT OFF THE ACCELERATOR TO PRESS ON THE BRAKE TO COME TO FULL STOP BEFORE THE CONCRETE COLUMN AT THE END OF THE PARKING SPACE WHEN, OF ITS OWN ACCORD, THE CAR SUDDENLY LURCHED FORWARD AT MUCH ACCELERATED SPEED. THE CAR CRASHED INTO THE CONCRETE COLUMN DESTROYING THE FRONT LEFT HEAD LIGHTS, ENTIRE FRONT GRILL WORK, AND THE FRAME OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR WAS BENT SO THE DOOR WOULD NOT BE OPENED. WHILE DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS, STEERING STICK WHEN TRYING TO MAKE SLIGHT STEERING CORRECTIONS. THIS HAS GOTTEN BAD ENOUGH TO WHERE VEHICLE MAKES LANE CHANGES WHEN JUST TRYING TO MAKE SLIGHT CORRECTION. HAVE HAD THE VEHICLE CHECKED SEVERAL TIMES, THE ACCELERATION SENSOR HAS BEEN RELEARNED THREE SEPARATE TIMES WITH LITTLE OR NO CHANGE. THIS IS VERY ANNOYING AND DANGEROUS. *TR
AFTER HAVING 4 NEW GOODYEAR ASSURANCE FUEL-MAX TIRES FOR APPROX 10 MONTHS AND 10,000 MILES, OBSERVED BULGES FORMING ON SIDEWALLS OF 3 OUT OF 4 TIRES. GOODYEAR WAS UNWILLING TO RECOGNIZE THE PROBLEM AS A DEFECT, BUT AFTER MULTIPLE CALLS TO CUSTOMER SUPPORT, THEY REPLACED THE 3 TIRES EXHIBITING THE PROBLEM WITH A DIFFERENT MODEL TIRE AT NO COST AS A MATTER OF CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. SINCE MANY PEOPLE HAVE POSTED SIMILAR PROBLEMS, AND INDEED ANOTHER CUSTOMER WAS IN THE SHOP WITH THE SAME PROBLEM WHEN I WAS THERE, AN INVESTIGATION SHOULD BE PERFORMED. THE SRS AIRBAG WARNING LIGHT STARTED LIGHTING UP PERIODICALLY AND THEN EVENTUALLY STAYED ON. RAN AN OBD TEST THAT SHOWED THE CLOCK SPRING WAS SHORTED. THIS IS LOCATED IN THE STEERING WHEEL BEHIND THE AIRBAG. HAVE SEEN MANY ONLINE COMPLAINTS ON THIS ISSUE AND FEEL A RECALL IS IN ORDER. THIS IS NOT A CHEAP DEALER REPAIR (MORE THAN $500) AND CAN BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE IF THE AIRBAGS DO NOT DEPLOY IN A CRASH. IT REALLY NEEDS TO BE URGENTLY LOOKED INTO BEFORE LIFE OR LIMB IS LOST, IF IT HASN'T HAPPENED ALREADY. *TR

MECHANIC TOLD ME TODAY THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC CODE TOLD HIM THAT THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED - AND UNLESS I SPENT $489+ TO FIX IT THAT NEITHER THE AIRBAG NOR SEAT BELTS WOULD WORK - SO IT WAS MANDATORY TO FIX IT!! THE CONSUMER STATED THE MECHANIC DISCOVERED BROKEN WIRES IN THE CLOCKSPRING ASSEMBLY. THE CONSUMER STATED HE SUFFERED A FINANCIAL LOSS OF ALMOST $500 FOR THE REPAIR. *TR
LAST WEEK THE AIRBAG SAFETY LIGHT CAME ON IN MY 2007 YARIS. ACCORDING TO MY MECHANIC IT CAN BE ONE OF FOUR SAFETY ISSUES ON THE VEHICLE. BASED ON THE CODE THAT CAME UP ON THE INSPECTION. SINCE THE CAR IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY THIS REPAIR WOULD BE CHARGED TO ME. THIS IS CLEARLY A SAFETY ISSUE AND OR FAULTY PARTS AND SHOULD BE A SAFETY RECALL AND NOT BE IGNORED BY TOYOTA. CORPORATE TOYOTA WILL ONLY TELL ME MY CAR IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE AIRBAG IS ONLY UNDER WARRANTY FOR 5 YEARS OR 60,000 MILES. AIRBAGS AND SEATBELTS AND FAULTY PARTS SHOULD BE A LIFETIME WARRANTY ON THE CAR. THIS ISSUE SHOULD BE UNDER A RECALL. I'M TOLD THE SEATBELTS AND AIRBAGS WILL MOST LIKELY NOT WORK PROPERLY AS THIS SAFETY LIGHT IS ON. MY MECHANIC HAS NO IDEA OF THE COST OF THE REPAIR BECAUSE IT CAN BE ONE OF FOUR THINGS INCLUDING A CLOCK SPRING IN THE STEERING COLUMN. AGAIN THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND IN NO WAY COULD BE IMPACTED BY MY DRIVING OR HOW THE CAR IS MAINTAINED. WHAT NEEDS TO HAPPEN FOR TOYOTA TO CREATE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. DURING ROLLING BUMPER TO BUMPER TRAFFIC, HEARD A LOUD POP FROM THE FRONT END. AFTERWARDS THE FRONT END KEPT MAKING A ODD GRIND SOUND WHEN I PUT ON THE BRAKES OR WENT OVER A SLIGHT BUMP. TOOK SOME TIME TO FIGURE OUT THAT ONE OF THE BOLTS THAT HOLDS THE PASSENGER SIDE A-ARM WAS GONE, LOOKS LIKE THE BOLT HEAD JUST SHEARED OFF SO NOW ALL THE WEIGHT THAT WAS CARRIED BY 3 BOLTS IS BEING MANAGED BY 2. I HAD JUST GOT OFF THE HIGHWAY TOO, GLAD THAT DID NOT POP AT 65 MPH. *TR
