BRAKES LOCKED UP ON MY 2008 TOYOTA YARIUS AND IT SKIDDED ME 67' 9" INTO THE BACK END OF ANOTHER VEHICLE. THE SKID MARKS WERE SOLID. I HAVE HAD MECHANICS TELL ME THAT THE BRAKES LOCKED UP AND THEY SHOULD NOT HAVE AND IT WILL SPEED YOU UP, WHICH CAUSED ME TO HIT THIS VEHICLE NOT ONCE BUT TWICE. I FILED A COMPLAINT WITH TOYOTA AND THEY SENT OUT A SUBJECT TO CHECK THE BRAKES, I THEN RECEIVED A LETTER STATING ALL THE TESTS ARE FINE. WELL MY INSURANCE COMPANY HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO DEALERSHIP WHO ADVISED THEM THAT YOU CAN NOT DO THE PROPER TEST, WITHOUT TOWING IT TO A CERTIFIED TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND PUT IT ON THEIR COMPUTER. WELL I TRIED TO GET TOYOTA TO TELL ME IF THIS MAN PULLED UP IN HIS TRUCK AND PULLED OUT THIS COMPUTER, HOWEVER NOW TOYOTA WON'T TALK TO ME. MY INSURANCE HAS HAD ONE OF THEIR INSPECTORS TO COME AND LOOK OVER THE VEHICLE, WHICH HE EXPLAINED TO ME SINCE IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL MONTHS THAT THE BLACK BOX MAY HAVE LOST THE INFORMATION THAT IS STORED IN IT, I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM THEM YET. I KNOW THIS WAS A VEHICLE MALFUNCTION, I FIRST CALLED TOYOTA TO FILE A COMPLAINT WHEN A TOYOTA SERVICE MANAGER ADVISED ME TO DO SO!! IN FACT THE TOYOTA REP WAS THE FIRST ONE TO ASK ME IF I WANTED COMPENSATED FOR THIS AND IF I COME UP WITH A FIGURE TO CALL HIM BACK WHICH I DID AND HE GAVE ME THE RUNAROUND. I WROTE A LETTER TO TOYOTA AND HAVEN'T HEARD ANYTHING ELSE FROM THEM. I KNOW FOR A FACT THIS WAS NOT MY FAULT, THIS WAS THE FIRST ACCIDENT I HAVE EVER HAD, AND ITS RUINED ME. I WORK TWO JOBS AND ALL I WANTED WAS A CAR I COULD TRUST, THIS WAS MY FOURTH TOYOTA AND IT WILL BE MY LAST. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE SKID MARKS, MY VEHICLE. I WAS SUED BY THE LADY I HIT LAWYER. I KNOW HOW I DRIVE AND I KNOW THAT THIS WASN'T MY FAULT, THE BRAKES MALFUNCTIONED AND THEY NEED TO ADMIT IT, AND TO TAKE CARE OF IT. I FOUND A WEBSITE ON TOYOTA YARIUS WHICH HAD NUMEROUS COMPLAINTS ABOUT BRAKES LOCKING UP ON THEIR VEHICLES AND THE NEAR MISSES THEY HAD, WELL I WRECKED AND IT WAS BAD. *TR
2008 TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK S RECALL IS FOR THE WEIGHT CAPACITY STICKER. APRIL 11, 2009 MY FIANCEE WAS DRIVING THE CAR WITH FOUR OTHER PASSENGERS INCLUDING MYSELF. THE CAR ENDED UP SLIDING SIDEWARDS AT LESS THAN 10 MPH AND CAME TO REST AT AN ANGLE ON THE GUARD RAIL. THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE BUMPER, OUTSIDE DOOR, BACK QUARTER PANEL AND RIMS WERE SCRATCHED AND DENTED. I BELIEVE THAT THIS INCIDENT WAS CAUSED DUE TO THE WEIGHT CAPACITY LIMIT ON THE TIRE SIZE, WHICH WAS INCORRECTLY LABELED BY TOYOTA. *TR
MY ABS AND BRAKE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON AT THE SAME TIME ON MY 2008 YARIS SEDAN. THE MANUAL STATES TO CONTACT THE DEALER IMMEDIATELY IN THIS SITUATION. THE ABS IS DISABLED IN THIS SITUATION. THE PROBLEM WAS A LEFT REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR SHORTED (CODE P0215). DUE TO EXCESSIVE CORROSION ON THE CONNECTION THE WIRING HARNESS WAS ALSO REPLACED. THE REPLACED PARTS WERE 89544-02070 (SENSOR, SKID CONTROL) AND 89516-52100 (WIRE, SKID CONTROL). THE CAR WAS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD WITH 12,465 MILES AT THE TIME. THE AMOUNT OF CORROSION ON THE SENSOR AND CONNECTING WIRES ON THE YARIS POINT TO A POTENTIAL DESIGN ISSUE. A CAR THAT IS LESS THAN A YEAR OLD SHOULD NOT HAVE THESE ISSUES. *TR
I HAD BAD EXPERIENCE WITH TOYOTA YARIS 2008. I WAS DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 264 EAST AT 70MILES/HR ON CRUISE CONTROL. SUDDENLY THE CAR STARTED JUMPING LEFT AND RIGHT. I TRIED TO CONTROL THE STEERING BUT NOTHING HAPPENED. ANOTHER CAR WAS COMING FROM MY RIGHT SIDE SO IN ORDER TO SAVE THAT CAR I SLIGHTLY TURNED THE STEERING TO LEFT. MY CAR STARTED SPINNING AND WENT OFF THE ROAD & AFTER 3-4 SPINS I COULD FINALLY STOP THE CAR. THE DEALER AND SERVICE PEOPLE COULD NOT FIND THE REASON FOR IT. WHILE MY CAR WAS SPINNING MY TWO TIRES GOT PUNCTURED AND ONE RIM BROKE. I AM SCARED TO DRIVE THIS CAR. TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE ALSO COULD NOT HELP ME IN THIS AND ALL THE EXPENSE[$ 500] HAS COME ON ME ONLY. EVERYBODY IS WASHING THEIR HANDS OFF. NOBODY KNOWS WHAT WENT WRONG IN THE CAR. *TR
MY MOTHER WAS DRIVING ON THE ON-RAMP OF I-57 IN ILLINOIS. HER 2008 YARIS, HIT A PATCH OF ICE AND HER CAR CRASHED INTO THE GUARD RAIL. SHE WAS TAKE BY AMBULANCE TO THE NEAREST HOSPITAL, WHERE SHE WAS ADMITTED FOR 2 DAYS AND RELEASED TO ME. DURING THE ACCIDENT, THE AIR BAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND THE SEAT BELT DISENGAGED CAUSING DEEP VISIBLE PURPLE BURSTS TO HER CHEST THROUGH HER INSULATED DOWN JACKET. THE IMPRINT OF THE SQUARE SEAT BELT BUCKLE IS STILL VISIBLE ON HER CHEST. SHE IS A SENIOR CITIZEN, AND IS STILL IN VERY SERIOUS PAIN. NO ONE ELSE SHOULD HAVE TO SUFFER THE PAIN AND SUFFERING THAT MY MOTHER IS GOING THROUGH NOW. THE CAR IS NOW IN THE BODY SHOP INCURRING MANY THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF DAMAGE. *TR
VEHICLE SPUN AROUND MANY TIMES OUT OF CONTROL ON AN EXPRESSWAY HITTING THE GUARD RAIL SEVERAL TIMES STRIKING THE FRONT AND SIDES OF MY VEHICLE AT A SPEED OF 50 MPH, DURING THIS TIME, ALL AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY RESULTING IN INJURY TO DRIVER, WHICH WAS THE LONE OCCUPANT. *TR
ON OCT 29, 2008 ABOUT 10:00 AM MY WIFE WAS DRIVING OUR 2008 TOYOTA YARIS HATCHBACK, TRAVELING SOUTH BOUND ON 7TH ST. IN VICTORVILLE CA. SHE WAS GOING ABOUT 35 MILES AN HOUR WHEN A FORD F150 TRUCK MADE AN LEFT TURN IN FRONT OF HER FROM THE NORTH BOUND LANE MY WIFE COLLIDED WITH THIS TRUCK. FRONT END COLLISION OF THE YARIS HITTING THE TRUCK ON THE PASSENGER FRONT WHEEL. DOING DAMAGE TO THE TRUCKS FRONT RIGHT QUARTER PANEL. DOING A LOT OF DAMAGE TO THE FRONT END OF OUR 2008 TOYOTA YARIS, BENDING AND SMASHING THE WHOLE FRONT BUMPER, PUSHING THE HOOD OUT OF PLACE. AND CAUSING BODILY INJURIES TO MY WIFE, HURTING HER BACK, NECK, SHOULDERS AND RIGHT ARM. MY MAJOR CONCERN IS THAT THE AIRBAGS DID NOT ACTIVATE OR DEPLOY IN OUR 2008 TOYOTA YARIS . *TR
I BOUGHT THE CAR ON MARCH OF 2008 (TOYOTA YARIS SPORT 4DR SEDAN) AS BRAND NEW. NOTE - BRAND NEW. AFTER DRIVING AROUND FOR 4 MONTHS, MY AIR CONDITIONING SMELLS LIKE VINEGAR EVERYTIME I TURN IT ON. LATER ON, THE SMELL WORSEN; IT SMELLS LIKE ROTTEN VOMIT. I WENT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID THEY SMELLED NOTHING. I WAS CONFUSED. AFTER THE DEALERSHIP, THE SMELL REMAINS THE SAME. AFTER 5 MONTHS OF DRIVING, ONE DAY WHEN I WAS AT SCHOOL, I WAS WALKING TO MY CAR AND GOT IN (IT WAS A HOT DAY) I TURNED ON THE AC AND IT BARELY BLOW AIR. MENTION AIR; ITS NOT COLD. I WAS REALLY UPSET SINCE IT IS A BRAND NEW CAR AND I'M STARTING TO HAVE PROBLEMS WITH IT. I WENT TO TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND ADDRESS THE PROBLEM TO THEM. TOOK ME 4 HOURS FOR THEM JUST TO INSTALL A LITTLE PART IN THE CAR WHICH COSTS DOLLARS AND FOR LABOR COSTING 344 DOLLARS ON THE WARRANTY. I THINK THAT'S INSANE. AFTER IT HAS BEEN REPAIRED, IT WAS TIME FOR MY OIL CHANGE. I WENT TO GET MY OIL CHANGE DONE, THE MECHANIC MENTIONED THERE'S SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY AC. HE SHOWED ME THE CABIN AIR FILTER AND IT WAS COMPLETELY BLACK. HAD TO PAID MORE FOR A NEW ONE. ALSO THE BACK TRUNK COVER WAS REPAINTED WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE ( THE 3RD PARTY TOLD ME MY TRUNK WAS REPAINTED). I ALSO ADDRESSED THAT TO TOYOTA AND THEY SAID I NEEDED TO REPLACE MY CABIN AIR FILTER NEXT MONTH AND THE TRUNK WAS BRAND NEW AS IS. I WAS REALLY UPSET AND STARTED TO THINK - DID I BUY A BRAND NEW LEMON?! *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA YARIS. AFTER SHIFTING INTO NEUTRAL GEAR AND EXITING THE CAR WASH, THE VEHICLE ACCELERATED WITHOUT WARNING. AS A CONSEQUENCE HE CRASHED INTO A FENCE. THE FRONT END OF THE VEHICLE AND THE WINDSHIELD WERE DAMAGED. THERE WERE NO INJURIES. HIS LICENSE WAS SUSPENDED, AND HIS INSURANCE INCREASE TWICE THE AMOUNT BECAUSE OF THE CRASH. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. REPORT NUMBER [XXX] WAS FILED WITH THE MANUFACTURER. AN AUTHORIZED INVESTIGATOR INSPECTED THE FAILURE AND CONCLUDED THAT NOTHING WAS WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 3,500 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 6,000. THE VEHICLE IDENTIFICATION NUMBER WAS UNAVAILABLE. UPDATED 11/23/09. *LJ *TR
AFTER WAITING IN TRAFFIC, HAVING COME TO A STOP OR INCHING FORWARD, AS IN WAITING TO MAKE A LEFT TURN, THE CAR DIES WHEN GAS IS APPLIED TO MOVE FORWARD. MORE DIFFICULT IF ON AN INCLINE. FEELS AS IF THE CAR MIGHT DIE. BACKING UP ON AN INCLINE WHEN GOING SLOWLY TRYING NOT TO RUN INTO FOR INSTANCE THE GARAGE, FREQUENTLY STALLS OR DIES COMPLETELY. CANNOT PREDICT WHEN THIS WILL HAPPEN, BUT HAPPENS TWO TO THREE TIMES PER WEEK. NO ACCIDENT HAS OCCURRED, BUT COULD BECAUSE OF NEED TO MOVE QUICKLY IN TRAFFIC. I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR TO TWO DIFFERENT DEALERS TO SEE IF THEY COULD ADJUST THE IDLE OR THE CLUTCH. THEY SAID THAT EVERYTHING WAS FACTORY ADJUSTED AND THAT TO CHECK THE CLUTCH WOULD REQUIRE CONSIDERABLE LABOR TO GET AT IT AND THE WARRANTY MIGHT NOT COVER IT IF NOTHING WAS FOUND. BASICALLY THE DEALERSHIPS SAID THAT IS THE WAY THE CAR IS, THAT THE RANGE FOR CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT OR NOT ENGAGEMENT WAS VERY SMALL AND THAT IT WAS A MATTER OF COORDINATING THE CLUTCH AND GAS. I THOUGHT PERHAPS THIS WAS IT AT FIRST, BUT I HAVE HAD THE CAR FOR 11 MONTHS, AND I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO AVOID THIS SITUATION PREDICTABLY. THE CAR ALSO DIED WHEN A FRIEND DROVE IT. I HAVE DRIVEN STICK SHIFT MOST OF MY LIFE AND THAT IS ABOUT 40 YEARS. I DON'T FEEL THAT I CAN COUNT ON THIS CAR TO MOVE QUICKLY OR MOVE AT ALL WHEN IN FIRST GEAR. THIS HAS OCCURRED 3 OR 4 TIMES EVERY WEEK SINCE BUYING THE CAR IN OCT OF 2007. I DON'T DRIVE THE CAR EVERY DAY. CURRENTLY THERE IS LESS THAN 10,000 MILES ON THE CAR. *TR
DURING THE NIGHT OF 9/1/2008 I WAS OPERATING A 2008 TOYOTA YARIS WHEN I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE AND CRASHED INTO A GARAGE POINT OF IMPACT: 15 TOTAL LOSE. I WAS INJURED AND HAVE HAD NECK SURGERY AND HAVE CHRONIC PAIN BECAUSE OF THE CRASH AFTER MY SURGERY. I VIEWED THE PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE I NOTICED THAT THE AIR BAGS DIDN'T DEPLOY ON IMPACT AND ONE OF THE PICTURES OF THE INSIDE OF THE VEHICLE (THE LEFT WINDOW GUARD HAS A FOAM TYPE SUBSTANCE CONNECTED TO IT) MONTHS LATER I CONTACTED THE INSURANCE COMPANY AND ASKED THEM WHERE THE CAR WAS AFTER ABOUT 6 CONTACTS AND 2 MONTHS LATER I RECEIVED A ANSWER THE VEHICLE WAS AUCTIONED AND SHIPPED TOO INDIA. I HAVE THE CONTACT INFORMATION BUT THE ATTORNEYS I CONTACTED WON'T TOUCH THE CASE BECAUSE OF THE COST AND THIS WAS THE SECOND CRASH IN 6 MONTHS AND THE COLLISION CENTER WAS TOLD OF THE AIR BAGS NOT DEPLOYING THE FIRST TIME. I HAVE PICTURES OF THE VEHICLE IF THAT WILL HELP. I NOTICED OTHER FAILURES CONCERNING THE SAME TYPE OF VEHICLE, SAME YEAR I HOPE THAT ODI WILL MAKE TOYOTA FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE DIES IN A CRASH. *TR

ON GOING PROBLEM WITH 2008 TOYOTA YARIS MODEL 2 DOOR SEDAN BOUGHT BRAND NEW 2008 TOYOTA YARIS IN JULY 2008. WHEN TRYING TO APPLY BREAK TO SLOW DOWN THE VEHICLE GOING DOWNHILL, THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION STARTS TO ROAR AS IF IT WON'T SLOW DOWN. REPORTED THE ISSUE TO THE DEALER WHO WERE ABLE TO DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM BUT COULD NOT FIND THE CAUSE. AND THE DEALER SAID IT WAS NORMAL. VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED. I APPLIED BRAKES AND THE CAR DID NOT STOP AS USUAL, IT JUST SLID. I ATTEMPTED TO AVOID THE VEHICLE AND ROLLED OVER. THE AIRBAGS DID NOT DEPLOY AND I WAS SLAMMED INTO THE STEERING WHEEL AND AGAINST THE DOOR. CAUSING CHEST PAIN AND SHOULDER PAIN. *TR

THIS FAILURE OCCURRED EVERY TIME THE VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN AT NIGHT. THE DEALER STATED THAT THIS WAS NORMAL AND THAT IT WAS DESIGNED THAT WAY. THERE WERE NO REPAIR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 12 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 17,407. UPDATED 04/16/10. *LJ THE CONSUMER STATED THE TAIL LIGHTS AND HEAD LIGHTS, MUST BE MANUALLY BE TURNED ON AT NIGHT. THEREFORE, THE CONSUMER SOMETIMES FORGET TO TURN THEM ON. UPDATED 08/26/10
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA YARIS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF THE CONTACT STOPPED ABRUPTLY. THE CONTACT REAR ENDED THE VEHICLE AND THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. THE VEHICLE SUSTAINED DAMAGE. THE DRIVER SUSTAINED INJURIES. THE DEALER WAS NOTIFIED AND A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA YARIS. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND SURGED DRAMATICALLY WITHOUT WARNING. THE DEALER ADVISED THE CONTACT TO INCREASE HIS SPEED WHILE DRIVING BECAUSE THE VEHICLE CANNOT SUFFICIENTLY OPERATE AT LOW THROTTLE. THE MANUFACTURER PROVIDED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 2,000 AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 2,025.
2008 TOYOTA YARIS 4 DOOR, THE LEFT WIPER IS ABOUT 26 INCHES AND THE RIGHT IS 16, THKE DEFROSTER IS IN THE CENTER AND ONLY COVERS THE LEFT WIPER AND HAS NO EFFECT ON THE RIGHT WIPER. WHEN TRAVELING DOWN THE HIGHWAY IN SNOWY CONDITIONS THE RIGHT WIPER WILL ICE UP AND ATTACH ITSELF TO THE WINDSHIELD, THEREFORE MAKING THE LEFT ONE NOT WORK EITHER. THE ONLY THING TO DO IS TO PULL OVER AND CLEAR IT BUT THAT IS ALSO AND AND ISSUE ON THE HIGHWAY IN THE SNOW OR RIDE IT TO AN EXIT TO CLEAR IT WITH ABSOLUTELY NO VISIBILITY. IF THE WINDSHIELD HAD A HEATED STRIP AT THE BOTTOM OR THEY REDESIGNED THE DASH BOARD TO COVER THE LEFT WIPER. THIS IS THE FIRST SNOW STORM I HAVE DRIVEN IN AND BY THE LOOKS WILL NOT BE THE LAST. I AM CURRENTLY TRYING TO WORK WITH THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP AND HAVE PICTURES OF WHAT HAPPENS ON MY SONS PHONE TO SHARE. I HAVE DRIVEN VEHICLES WITH LIMITED VISIBILITY AND HAVE DRIVEN TRUCKS FOR MANY YEARS. IF THIS WAS TO HAPPEN TO AN INEXPERIENCED DRIVER OR ONE THAT DOES NOT HANDLE THINGS WELL IT COULD HAVE BAD OUTCOMES.
