THE ABS PUMP MODULE FAILS ON 2009 CARS REGULARLY. THE ABS, STABILITY CONTROL AND TRACTION CONTROL NO LONGER FUNCTIONS AND VOLKSWAGEN REFUSES TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALER WHEN IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY FOR THEM TO LOOK AT AND ALL THEY COULD SAY WAS IS THAT THEY COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. NOW IT IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE ISSUE IS CONSTANT TO THE POINT WHERE I DO NOT DRIVE THE CAR DUE TO THE SPEEDOMETER AND STEERING BEING AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE. THE CAR WAS ON THE HIGHWAY AND WHEN THE BRAKES WERE HARD PRESSED THE CAR SKIDDED.
I TOOK MY CAR TO GUNTHER VOLKSWAGEN IN FT LAUDERDALE, FL. MY AUTOMATIC DSG TRANSMISSION WAS NOT SHIFTING INTO GEAR ON MANY OCCASIONS AS I WAS DRIVING, PARKING STOPPED AT A LIGHT. ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS THIS PROBLEM HAD RESULTED IN SOME NEAR ACCIDENTS WITH OTHER CARS, AND ON TWO OCCASIONS I HAD HIT A POLE AND A WALL. THE NEAR ACCIDENTS WITH CARS HAD OCCURRED IN PARKING SITUATIONS AS WELL AS ON THE STREET AT TRAFFIC LIGHTS WHEN MY CAR WOULD NOT MOVE AND CARS BEHIND ME ALMOST HIT ME. ANOTHER OCCASION MY CAR WOULD NOT MOVE WHEN I WAS AT AN INTERSECTION WAITING FOR TRAFFIC TO CLEAR TO TURN LEFT, AND THE LIGHT CHANGED. WHEN THIS PROBLEM WAS OCCURRING THE SHIFT INDICATOR LETTERS IN THE ELECTRONIC DISPLAY WOULD FLASH WITH BOXES AROUND THEM. IT WAS DISCOVERED BY THE DEALER THAT THE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM I WAS HAVING WAS THE SUBJECT OF A VOLUNTARY RECALL BY VOLKSWAGEN. I WAS TOLD THAT THE MECHATRONIC UNIT OF MY TRANSMISSION WOULD BE REPLACED UNDER THIS VOLUNTARY RECALL AS WELL AS THE OTHER FUSE RECALL. LATER IN THE DAY I WAS CALLED BY CAR DEALERSHIP AND THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE FUSE RECALL WORK WOULD BE DONE BUT THE TRANSMISSION RECALL WOULD NOT BE DONE BECAUSE MY CAR HAD A REBUILT TITLE. THE CAR HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT WHERE IT SUSTAINED DAMAGE TO RIGHT FRONT SUSPENSION AND INSURANCE COMPANY HAD PAID OUT CLAIM AND DECLARED VEHICLE A TOTAL LOSS. I BOUGHT "SALVAGED" VEHICLE AND REPAIRED DAMAGE FOR UNDER $1,000 AND RETITLED (REBUILT) VEHICLE UNDER FLORIDA LAW. ACCORDING TO WHAT I HAVE READ ON NHTSA WEBSITE IF VEHICLE IS ON THE ROAD AND BEING DRIVEN AROUND MANUFACTURERS ARE REQUIRED TO PERFORM RECALL REPAIRS ON THEM. THE RECALL ON THIS TRANSMISSION ISSUE WAS SUBJECT OF AN INVESTIGATION BY NHTSA (ACTION NUMBER PEO9035) SEVERAL ACCIDENTS HAD OCCURRED BECAUSE OF IT BUT NO INJURIES WERE REPORTED. CAN YOU PLEASE ADVISE IF VW IS REQUIRED TO REPAIR MY VEHICLE UNDER THIS VOLUNTARY RECALL? *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING, THE RPMS REVVED TO A HIGHER LEVEL AND AN OIL LEAK WAS NOTICED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR MAIN SEAL WAS LEAKING, WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SURGE. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING INDICATOR ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 93,000.
PREMATURE ENGINE FAILURE WHILE DRIVING DUE TO A KNOWN DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER WHICH VW HAS SENT A TSB ABOUT BUT REFUSES TO DO A RECALL TO REPLACE. INSTEAD THEY EXPECT CUSTOMERS TO PAY $1500 TO HAVE THE NEWLY UPDATED TENSIONER INSTALLED. ENGINES ARE FAILING BOTH UNDER AND JUST OUT OF WARRANTY. SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER AND CONTROL OF THE ENGINE WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE ABILITY TO STEER AND MANEUVER THE VEHICLE TO A SAFE STOP IN TRAFFIC.
FIRST OCCURRENCE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL LIGHTS ON DASH MOMENTARILY WHILE ON FREEWAY. SECOND OCCURRENCE, CITY DRIVING, ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, STEERING DASH LIGHTS, DASH DISPLAY "ENGINE FAULTY WORKSHOP" ALONG WITH BEEPING SOUND, SPEEDO WILDLY FLUCTUATING WHILE DRIVING STRAIGHT AT CONSTANT SPEED AROUND 40 MPH, THEN A COUPLE OF SECONDS LATER THE LIGHTS GO OUT AND EVERYTHING APPEARS NORMAL. READING FORUMS OF SIMILAR ISSUES INDICATED AN EXPENSIVE REPLACEMENT OF THE ABS MODULE. CAR HAS APPROX 106K MILES.
2009 75,000 MILES. ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILURE FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF WEEKS MY CAR WOULD INTERMITTENTLY THROW UP THE ABS AND TRACTION LIGHTS BUT THIS WOULD GO AWAY SHORTLY AFTERWARDS. I GET IN MY CAR ABOUT 30 MINUTES AND START DRIVING FOR MAYBE 1/16TH OF A MILE AND EVERYTHING JUST FREAKS OUT. SPEEDOMETER IS DROPPING TO ZERO (WHILE IN MOTION DOING ABOUT 15 MPH) AND FLUCTUATES ALL OVER BETWEEN 0 AND 20 MPH. BRAKE LIGHT IS ON. TRACTION LIGHT IS ON. ABS LIGHT IS ON. STEERING LIGHT IS ON. EPC LIGHT IS ON. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. AND THE MFD IS SAYING "ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP". AS TIME HAS GONE ON IT NOW TENDS TO HAPPEN ATLEAST 15+ TIMES A DAY. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. WHILE DRIVING 5 MPH AND TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL, THE POWER STEERING FAILED. VARIOUS WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ABS MODULE FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 105,000.
ABS MODULE FAILURE AFTER 90K MILES. RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY, AND TRACTION CONTROL AT THE SAME TIME. ALSO, PREVENTS SPEEDOMETER AND OTHER GAUGES FROM READING ACCURATELY. MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN AND SEEMS TO BE AN WIDE ISSUE SPECIFIC TO 2009 VW GTI/RABBITS. MANUFACTURER SHOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR REPLACEMENT/COMPENSATION TO OWNERS.
ABS CONTROL MODULE IS WELL KNOWN TO GO OUT, VERY DANGEROUS AND EXPENSIVE FIX FOR LOW MILES, NOT ABLE TO SEE SPEED, NO TRACTION CONTROL, AND CAUSES BRAKE LOCK UP DURING WET WEATHER
WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE STEERING SYSTEM BECAME TIGHT, ABS AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON AS WELL AS CHECK ENGINE, STEERING SYSTEM MALFUNCTION, EPC AND STABILITY CONTROL LIGHTS LIT UP ON DASH. ALSO, FUEL GAUGE WOULD DROP TO EMPTY AND SPEEDOMETER WENT TO ZERO MILES PER HOUR WHILE THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. THIS HAPPENED ON A CITY STREET GOING STRAIGHT OR TURNING.
I SUBMITTED A COMPLAINT LAST YEAR WITH COMPLAINT #: 10907462. SUMMARY OF THE UNEXPECTED ABS MODULE BREAKDOWN THAT HAPPENED LAST YEAR. THE MODULE BROKE DOWN THE FIRST TIME ON 09/06/216 ON MY WAY TO WORK AND IT OCCURRED WHILE I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY. I SLOWED DOWN THE SPEED TO AROUND 45 AFTER I LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE WHEN IT HAPPENED AND THE LIGHTS AND BEEPING DID NOT STOP WITH THE ENGINE LIGHT TURNED ON. THE CAR WAS EVENTUALLY TOWED AND REPAIRED (PAID OUT OF POCKET) AT VW DEALERSHIP. AFTER SEARCHING ONLINE, THE ABS MODULE APPARENTLY HAS BEEN A PROBLEM ON GTI AND GLI JETTA. MOST RECENTLY, THERE IS A RECALL ON THE ABS MODULES ON CERTAIN VW VEHICLES; HOWEVER MY CAR WAS NOT ONE OF THEM EVEN THOUGH IT IS THE SAME PART THAT ALMOST CAUSED ME A CAR CRASH ON THE HIGHWAY! PLEASE INVESTIGATE INTO THIS PROBLEM AND HAVE THE VW OFFICIALLY EXTEND THEIR QUALIFICATION FOR RECALLS. IT IS NOT RIGHT TO ONLY RECALL CERTAIN VEHICLES AS OTHER CARE MODELS/YEARS ALSO USE THE EXACT SAME MANUFACTURER DEFECT ABS MODULES!
ABS MODULE FAILURE AT 88K MILES. MULTIPLE FAULT CODES PRESENTS WITH CONSTANT BEEPING AND AN ERROR MESSAGE READING " ENGINE FAULT! WORKSHOP! IN THE HEADS UP DISPLAY (EPC, EMERGENCY BRAKE, ELECTRONIC STEERING ASSIST OFF, TRACTION CONTROL OFF FAULT CODES). THIS IS A SAFETY FEATURE FAILURE THAT CAN RESULT IN LOSS OF POWER STEERING, ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM FUNCTIONALITY, AND TRACTION CONTROL AT THE SAME TIME. THE FAILURE OF THIS MODULE REPRESENTS A SERIOUS DANGER TO OCCUPANTS IN THE VEHICLE AS THE SAFETY FEATURES ARE DISABLED DUE TO THE FAILURE OF THIS CRUCIAL PART. THIS CAN HAPPEN AT ANY SPEED WHILE DRIVING/TURNING.
AT ROUGHLY 11PM AT NIGHT WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM THE GYM THE CAR STARTED BEEPING AND THE EPC LIGHT CAME ON. SHORTLY AFTER THE ABS, CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE LIGHT(FLASHING), STEERING WHEEL ICON, AND A MESSAGE SAYING ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP ALL LIT UP. I IMAGINE ALL THESE LIGHTS PROMPTING THE CAR TO GO INTO LIMP MODE. MY GAS GAUGE STOPPED WORKING ALONG WITH THE SPEDOMETER AND THE CAR WOULD ONLY REC ABOUT 2K RPMS TRYING TO PROTECT ITSELF FROM FURTHER DAMAGE(LIMP MODE). PROBLEM WOULD CONTINUE ON FROM THEN. THE CAR WON'T TURN PROPERLY AS IT FEELS LIKE IT'S REALLY LOOSE AND ISN'T GRABBING THE ROAD.
WAS TRAVELING ON THE INTERSTATE AROUND A CURVE DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC AND HAD TO APPLY THE BRAKES PRETTY HARD ON THAT CURVE. THE ABS ACTIVATED VERY SHORTLY AND THEN WAS FOLLOWED BY THE ABS LIGHT AND TRACTION AND BRAKE LIGHT COMING ON WITH AN AUDIBLE CHIME AND THE TIRES THEN LOCKED UP, WHICH THEN CAUSED THE CAR TO START TO SPIN SIDEWAYS. LUCKILY WAS ABLE TO CORRECT IT BEFORE DISASTER. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON MANY OCCASIONS, BASICALLY WHENEVER THE ABS IS ENGAGED, THE SYSTEM IS DISABLED RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF NEEDING IT, VERY DANGEROUS. I DO NOT HAVE THE $1,000+ TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
ABS MODULE FAILURE AFTER 100K MILES. THREE CHIMES, "ENGINE FAULT WORKSHOP" WARNING COMES UP, WARNING LIGHTS FOR ABS, ESP, STEERING, BRAKES, EVERYTHING. HAPPENS RANDOMLY, OFTEN ON TURNS, GOES BACK TO NORMAL AFTER A WHILE EXCEPT FOR ABS AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS. APPARENTLY THIS IS A STANDARD PROBLEM FOR THIS YEAR/MODEL.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE ABS BRAKE MODULE MALFUNCTIONED. SEVERAL YEARS AGO, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO BE REPAIRED PER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 16V913000 (POWER TRAIN) BY HERITAGE VOLKSWAGEN PARKVILLE (9215 HARFORD RD, PARKVILLE, MD 21234, (877) 398-1963). AFTER A COUPLE OF DAYS, THE DEALER REFUSED TO PERFORM THE RECALL REPAIRS BECAUSE THE VEHICLE WAS SHOWING THE INCORRECT FAILURE CODES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A SECOND RECALL NOTICE IN THE MAIL AND WAS INFORMED BY THE DEALER THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKES STARTED GRINDING AND TWITCHING AND THE ENTIRE INSTRUMENT PANEL ILLUMINATED. IN ADDITION, THE SPEEDOMETER STOPPED WORKING, THE STEERING BECAME LOOSE, AND THE VEHICLE STOPPED ACCELERATING AFTER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS INITIALLY DEPRESSED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE REPAIRS WOULD BE COVERED; HOWEVER, THEY LATER CALLED THE CONTACT BACK STATING THE RECALL REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE COVERED. THE INCORRECT FAILURE CODES WERE VAG00290 (DRIVER'S SIDE REAR ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR WITH MECHANICAL FUNCTION) AND VAG00285 (PASSENGER SIDE FRONT ABS SPEED SENSOR). THE CONTACT STATED THAT SHE RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE DEALER THAT THE RECALL HAD TO MATCH TWO OF THE SPECIFIC CODES, WHICH WAS WHY THE RECALL REPAIRS WERE NOT PERFORMED. THE CONTACT WAS INSTRUCTED TO CALL THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND STATED THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT THE DEALER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED THE RUN AROUND FOR A WEEK WITH BOTH THE DEALER AND MANUFACTURER, STATING THEY WERE WAITING TO HEAR FROM EACH OTHER. RECENTLY, THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE RECALL REPAIRS WOULD NOT BE PERFORMED AND THE CONTACT MADE ARRANGEMENTS TO HAVE THE VEHICLE REPAIRED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,000.
WHILE DRIVING AT SPEED, "ENGINE WORKSHOP" ERROR CODE FOLLOWED BY ABS, ESC, "BRAKE" TRACTION CONTROL, STEERING WARNING YELOW, STEERING WARNING RED, AND MULTIPLE DINGS AND ALARMS. SPEEDOMETER GOES TO ZERO, CAR IS SLUGGINSH... WHEN STOPPED, THE BRAKES SEEM SOFT UNLESS "PUMPED UP" I AM CONCERNED THAT THE VEHICLE CONTROLS ARE NOT RELAIBLE.
VW 2009 GTI 80K MILES. SOLID ABS, SOLID POWER STEERING LIGHT, SOLID CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SOLID TRACTION CONTROL, AND FLASHING "BRAKE" LIGHTS ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD OCCASIONALLY UPON TURNING ON THE VEHICLE, ACCOMPANIED BY 3 AUDIBLE BEEPS. THEN, THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE, EPC, STEERING, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS BEGAN TO COME ON WHILE DRIVING. ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL STAY ILLUMINATED, WHILE THE EPC, STEERING, CHECK ENGINE, AND BRAKE LIGHTS COME ON INTERMITTENTLY, ACCOMPANIED BY 3 AUDIBLE BEEPS. THE MESSAGE "ENGINE FAULT - WORKSHOP!" ALSO SHOWS UP ON THE MESSAGE DISPLAY CENTER IN THE DASH. STEERING FEELS A BIT STIFF. SPEEDOMETER, ODOMETER AND FUEL GAUGE AFFECTED. DEALER HAS INDICATED AN INTERNAL FAULT IN THE ABS CONTROL MODULE REQUIRING COMPLETE REPLACEMENT. VW CORPORATE OFFICES UNWILLING TO PROVIDE EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THESE COMMON FAILURES. EXPENSIVE FIX AND VERY DANGEROUS TO DRIVE.
2009 VW GTI. ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE, EPC, CEL AND STEERING WHEEL LIGHT COME ON. 3 BEEPS SOUND. SPEEDOMETER DOESN'T WORK. AFTER SEARCHING, THIS APPEARS TO BE A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. POWER STEERING SEEMS TO TURN OFF AND ON UNEXPECTEDLY AND IS QUITE DANGEROUS WHILE DRIVING. ABS WON'T WORK AND TRACTION CONTROL TURNS OFF AND ON UNEXPECTEDLY.
SOLID LIGHT IN DASHBOARD / ABS IN ORANGE / BRAKE IN RED WITH 3 BEEPS EVERYTIME I TURN ON THE CAR SOMETIMES GETS COMPLICATED EITH EPC LIGHT AND "TAKE TO THE SHOP" ENGINE MSLFUNCTION
ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILURE DEVELOPED AFTER 100,000 MILES.
I HAVE A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN GTI AND MY ABS LIGHTS ARE ON AS WELL AS ENGINE WORKSHOP FAULT, THREE BEEPS, CHECK ENGINE, EPC AND TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE LIGHT. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE MAKE AND MODEL AND YEAR OF VEHICLE. THIS SHOULD BE RECALLED UPON ASAP. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE.
BEGINNING AROUND 55K MILES (CAR WAS APPROXIMATELY 6 YEARS OLD) I OCCASIONALLY WOULD EXPERIENCE A CHIME FOLLOWED BY ABS LIGHT FLASHING WHEN TAKING TIGHT TURNS. IT TURNED OFF WHEN CYCLING THE ENGINE OFF/ON. ALSO, SOMETIMES THERE WOULD BE THREE CHIMES UPON STARTING THE CAR FOLLOWED BY ABS AND ESC WARNING LIGHTS FLASHING. THIS COULD NOT BE REMOVED BY CYCLING THE ENGINE OFF/ON. IT WOULD STAY ON WHILE DRIVING AND ONLY GO AWAY RANDOMLY THE NEXT TIME I RESTARTED IT LATER; SOMETIMES IT WOULD STAY ON FOR MANY CONSECUTIVE STOPS/STARTS. THE SYMPTOM OF THE THREE CHIMES UPON STARTUP GOT MORE FREQUENT RECENTLY (70K MILES). IT WOULD APPEAR ALMOST EVERY DAY. I RESEARCHED THIS ON WEB CHAT FORUMS AND THE SYMPTOMS APPEARED TO BE CONSISTENT WITH OTHER 2009 VW GTI DRIVERS EXPERIENCING ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILURE. I ALSO CONSULTED MY LOCAL VW MECHANIC AND HE CONCURRED MY SYMPTOMS WERE 'EARLY ONSET' FAILURE AND ANECDOTALLY HE SAID THE 2009 VW GTI CONTROL MODULES HAVE A REPUTATION OF EARLY FAILURE. IT IS WORTH NOTING THE CONDITION RENDERS THE ESC AND ABS NON-FUNCTIONAL. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AT 73500 MILES AND HE DIAGNOSED ABS CONTROL MODULE FAILURE AND SAID IT WAS DANGEROUS TO DRIVE. I ASKED FOR A GOODWILL WARRANTY EXTENSION AND GOT IT; THE UNIT WAS REPLACED WHICH APPEARS TO HAVE FIXED THE ISSUE. WHEN DRIVING THE CAR, A LOT OF THE WARNING LIGHTS FLASH OUT OF NOWHERE. THE ABS LIGHT, TRACTION, POWER STEERING, EPC LIGHTS ALL FLASH. I ALSO LOSE POWER STEERING. ON TOP OF THAT, THE SPEEDOMETER DOES NOT WORK. THIS HAPPENS ABRUPTLY AND SOMETIMES AT HIGH SPEEDS. IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. FROM WHAT I'VE READ, IT IS THE ABS MODULE FAILING. THIS SEEMS TO BE A COMMON PROBLEM OF 09 GTIS AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED!
JUST LAST WEEK MY GTI STARTED HAVING ELECTRICAL PROBLEMS AND SOON REALIZED MOST 2009 GTIS EVENTUALLY HAVE THIS PROBLEM WITH THEIR ABS CONTROL MODULES. SOLID ABS, SOLID POWER STEERING LIGHT, SOLID CHECK ENGINE LIGHT, SOLID TRACTION CONTROL, AND FLASHING "BRAKE" LIGHTS WOULD ILLUMINATE ON THE DASHBOARD OCCASIONALLY UPON TURNING ON THE VEHICLE, ACCOMPANIED BY 3 AUDIBLE BEEPS. THEN, THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL, BRAKE, EPC, STEERING, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHTS BEGAN TO COME ON WHILE DRIVING. MY ABS PUMP & MODULE WERE DETERMINED TO NEED REPLACEMENT. SEARCHING ONLINE, IT SEEMS A LARGE NUMBER OF PEOPLE WITH THE 2009 MODEL ARE HAVING THIS ISSUE. I WAS QUOTED AT $2200 TO FIX IT. I WAS DRIVING ON A CITY STREET TO A RESTAURANT AFTER MY WEDDING AND THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND BRAKE LIGHTS ALL CAME ON. DAYS LATER THE CAR STARTED TO REV WEIRD AND THE SPEEDOMETER WOULD NOT WORK.

THE DEALER HAS INDICATED AN INTERNAL FAULT IN THE ABS CONTROL MODULE.
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I HAD TO MAKE A SUDDEN STOP. MY BRAKES LOCKED UP AND MY ABS, BRAKE, AND ESC LIGHTS CAME ON. I TRIED TO REGAIN CONTROL BUT ENDED UP SPINNING OUT ON THE FREEWAY AND HITTING THE GUARD RAIL. HAD TO FIX TAILLIGHT AND BUMPER IS SCRATCHED. THIS PROBLEM IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS BECAUSE WHEN I WAS BRAKING I WAS BRAKING UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT MY ABS SYSTEM WAS WORKING CORRECTLY AND I DID NOT PUMP THE BRAKES. I WAS ONLY NOTIFIED THAT MY ABS, ESC, AND BRAKE WERE HAVING ISSUES AFTER I WAS IN THE PANIC BRAKE AND IT WAS TOO LATE TO REACT AND START PUMPING THE BRAKES. THE ABS, ESC, AND BRAKE LIGHTS TURN OFF AFTER THE CAR IS RESTARTED BUT THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. I HAVE TRIED BRAKING HARD ON WET PAVEMENT AFTERWARDS TO TEST THE ISSUE AND THE ABS, ESC, AND BRAKE LIGHTS TURN ON AGAIN WHEN THE ABS IS SUPPOSED TO ENGAGE. I RESTART THE CAR AND THERE IS NO WARNING THAT THE ABS SYSTEM IS HAVING TROUBLE. I BEGAN SEARCHING FOR THE ISSUE RECENTLY AND FOUND ON A COUPLE FORUMS THAT MANY PEOPLE HAVE BEEN HAVING THE SAME ISSUE. I BELIEVE THE ISSUE IS WITH THE ABS CONTROL MODULE. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND VOLKSWAGEN NEEDS TO RECALL ASAP.

THE ABS PUMP AND MODULE DIED ON MY '09 VW GTI AT JUST OVER 50000 MILES. WHEN ABS OR TRACTION CONTROL IS CALLED UPON, THE SYSTEMS FAIL, CAUSING THE CAR TO LOSE CONTROL. IN MY CASE, IT HAPPENS EVERY TIME I HIT A SNOWY OR ICY PATCH WHILE DRIVING. ALSO, THE ABS, ESP, AND BRAKING INDICATOR ALL LIGHT UP ON THE DASHBOARD WITH THE BRAKING LIGHT FLASHING AND DINGING. ALL MAINTENANCE WAS CURRENT ON MY CAR. I WAS NOT DRIVING EXCESSIVELY WHEN THESE INCIDENTS OCCURRED. VW WANTS OVER $2100 TO FIX THE ISSUE. VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA DENIES THERE ARE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THE '09 GTI ABS SYSTEM, DESPITE NUMEROUS REPORTS ACROSS THE INTERNET, AND HAS REFUSED MY REQUEST FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO CORRECT A PROBLEM THEY SAY MAKES THE CAR UNSAFE TO OPERATE.
ABS MODULE IS GOING OUT, CAUSING THE TRACTION CONTROL TO TURN OFF , ENGINE LIGHT TO TURN ON, ASSISTED STEERING TO TURN OFF AND ABS TO TURN OFF. IT IS ALL INTERMEDIATE TURING OFF AN ON. THESE WILL ALL TURN ON AND OFF WHILE DRIVING AND OR PARKED. HIGHWAY OR IN TOWN.
THE BOSCH ABS BRAKE PUMP HAS FAILED. THIS CAUSES THE BRAKES TO LOSE ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL CAPABILITY IN THE EVENT OF HARD BRAKING EVENT. THIS ISSUE RE-SETS WITH EVERY IGNITION CYCLE AND SUDDENLY RE-APPEARS DURING THE BRAKING EVENT. THIS HAS HAPPENED TO ME THREE TIMES, 1ST TIME WAS COMPLETE SURPRISED AND SPUN 360 DEGREES IN THE ROAD, LUCKILY NO ONE WAS AROUND. VW DIAGNOSED ISSUE, $2500, REFUSED TO PAY OR ACKNOWLEDGE THIS IS AN ISSUE, DESPITE MANY COMPLAINTS. IN THE PAST TWO MONTHS, I HAVE SLID ACROSS TWO LANES OF TRAFFIC OVER A CURB THRU A BUSINESS FRONT YARD, LUCKILY NO DAMAGE TO ME OR VEHICLE. NEXT I SLID AGAIN, WHEN THE BRAKES FAILED AND HIT A CURB, $1500 DAMAGE TO MY CAR. VW AGAIN HAS REFUSED TO PAY FOR THE BRAKE PUMP FAILURE. THERE ARE MANY COMPLAINTS ON GTI BLOGS, VW CARES TWITTER ACCOUNT. IN SOME CASES VW HAS PAID FOR HAVE CONSUMER VEHICLE FIXED, BUT IN MY CASE THEY DENIED TWICE. ONCE BEFORE AND ONCE AFTER I HAD AN ACCIDENT. MY VW CASE MANAGER SAID MY CLAIM WAS DENIED, NO REAL REASON. I LIVE IN MICHIGAN, SO OUR WINTERS ARE LONG AND SNOW FILLED, I FEAR EVERYTIME I GET ON THE ROAD IN COULD BE MY LAST. I WON'T LET MY FAMILY DRIVE THIS CAR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,120.

I BOUGHT THIS GTI USED FROM A FABULOUS VW DEALER WITH 55,000 MILES ON IT. I'VE OWNED THE VEHICLE ROUGHLY SIX OR SEVEN MONTHS AND UNDER HARD BRAKING, SHARP TURNS/MANEUVERS OR QUICK ACCELERATION I WOULD RANDOMLY GET THE ABS, TRACTION CONTROL AND FLASHING E-BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED IN MY GAUGE CLUSTER. THESE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON UNTIL THE IGNITION WAS SWITCHED OFF AND WHEN THE CAR WAS RESTARTED WOULD GO AWAY. WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK YESTERDAY, NOW WITH 62,000 MILES, I APPLIED THE BRAKES WHILE GOING 45-50 MILES AN HOUR. THE CAR THAT WAS A GOOD 6 CAR LENGTHS IN FRONT OF ME HAD SLAMMED ON THEIR BRAKES SO I HAD AMPLE ROOM TO COME TO A STOP. AFTER APPLYING THE BRAKES ALL OF MY WHEELS LOCKED UP AND MY CAR BEGAN TO SPIN OUT OF CONTROL OFF THE ROAD. AFTER SPINNING TWICE MY CAR CAME TO REST ON THE SHOULDER FACING THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION. THE CAR CAME TO REST NOT MORE THAN A FOOT FROM A 30 OR 40 FOOT STEEP UNGUARDED GRADE. HAD THE CAR GONE ANY FURTHER I MIGHT HAVE BEEN SEVERELY INJURED, OR WORSE, KILLED. THE SAME LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED ON THE GAUGE CLUSTER. AFTER GATHERING MY NERVE AND DRIVING HOME I PARKED THE CAR IN MY DRIVE WAY. TURNED IT OFF AND TURNED IT BACK ON. AGAIN, ALL THE WARNING LIGHTS WERE GONE. I DID SOME ONLINE RESEARCH AND FOUND NUMEROUS ACCOUNTS OF THIS ISSUE INDICATIVE OF THE 2009 MODEL YEAR VW'S BUT NO RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED. VW CUSTOMER SERVICE STATED THAT THEY WOULD NOT COVER ANY COSTS WHICH I REJECT AS I FEEL THAT I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY THE HEFTY FEE OF REPLACING AND RECODING THE ABS MODULE AS IT SHOULDN'T HAVE FAILED TO BEGIN WITH.
PURCHASED THIS CAR BRAND NEW FROM THE DEALERSHIP. BECAUSE I LIVED IN THE D.C. AREA, I DIDN'T DRIVE IT MUCH, SO THE CAR TODAY HAS ABOUT 34K MILES. A WEEK AGO, I WAS DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY ABOUT 65 MPH WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHT AND ABS CAME ON, ALONG WITH THE THREE WARNING DINGS. TOOK IT TO THE VW DEALERSHIP ON AUSTIN, WHO DIAGNOSED AS ABS BRAKE MODULE FAILURE. I FOUND A VW REPAIR SHOP WHO WOULD CHANGE OUT THE MODULE FOR $400 LESS, AND I DROVE IT HOME. STRANGELY, THE LIGHTS ARE OFF. BASED ON EVERYTHING WE'VE FOUND ONLINE, THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE FOR THIS CAR. FIRST, THE LIGHTS SHOULD NOT BE SHUTTING OFF AS IF THE PROBLEM HAS DISAPPEARED. SECOND, A CAR WITH THIS FEW MILES SHOULD NOT HAVE THE ABS SYSTEM FAILING. VW NEEDS TO ISSUE AN IMMEDIATE RECALL TO REPLACE ALL OF THESE 2009 GTI ABS MODULES BEFORE SOMEONE IS KILLED.

WHILE ACCELERATING ONTO HIGHWAY, MULTIPLE WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON IN THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER. "ESP" LIGHT ON SOLID, "ABS" LIGHT ON SOLID AND "HANDBRAKE" LIGHT FLASHING. I PULLED OFF THE HIGHWAY TURNED THE CAR OFF THEN BACK ON AND LIGHTS DISAPPEARED. AFTER RESEARCH ONLINE I FOUND HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS WITH SIMILAR ISSUES. THE PROBLEMS STEMS FROM A FAULTY ABS CONTROL MODULE WHERE REPAIRS COSTS THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS. WHEN THIS PART FAILS THE VEHICLE HAS NO ABILITY TO USE ABS SYSTEM OR TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY SYSTEM WITH IN THE CAR. THE NUMBER OF OWNERS EXPERIENCING THIS PROBLEM LEADS ME TO BELIEVE THIS IS A WIDE SPREAD ISSUE WITH THE PART USED WITHIN THE SYSTEM.

I HAVE READ DOZENS OF COMPLAINTS ONLINE ABOUT SIMILAR PROBLEMS WITH OTHER 2009 VWS. SINCE THIS HAS HAPPENED AFTER MY EXTENDED 60,000 MILE WARRANTY (68,000MILES NOW) VW WILL NOT COVER ISSUE DESPITE IT BEING ENDEMIC. PLEASE INVESTIGATE, THIS IS DANGEROUS AND NEEDS TO BE COVERED BY THE COMPANY AND RECALLED TO KEEP PEOPLE SAFE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 VOLKSWAGEN GTI. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH AND COMING TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE JERKED FORWARD WITHOUT WARNING AND THE CONTACT HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM THE TRANSMISSION. AFTER COMING TO A STOP, THE VEHICLE WAS NOT ABLE TO MOVE AND THE GEAR SELECTOR LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS SHUT OFF AND RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 52,500.
ABS AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS ON THE DASH HAD INTERMITTENTLY APPEARED ON SEVERAL OCCASION OVER THE PAST THREE MONTHS WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS AND CONDITIONS. THE WARNING LIGHTS WOULD STAY ON UNTIL I TURNED THE CAR OFF. ONCE RESTARTED THE LIGHTS WOULD BE OFF. ON 12-AUG-15 THE SAME WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON WHEN I STARTED THE CAR. THEY REMAINED ON AFTER TURNING THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTING. THREE WARNING BEEPS WERE THEN HEARD AT SEVERAL MINUTE INTERVALS UNTIL I REACH MY DESTINATION. OTHER WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON BRIEFLY THEN WENT OUT. I WAS INFORMED BY A MECHANIC THAT THE ABS CONTROL MODULE HAD FAILED. BASED ON AN INTERNET SEARCH I UNDERSTAND THIS IS A COMMON ISSUE WITH THE 2009 VW GTI.
