Documented iPhone and Infotainment system not functioning with hands free. This results in key safety feature which I bought the ID4 for. Prior VW service claims this is user error and cannot reproduce. On 2-24-25, I was able to show service manager and tech the consistent problem. Tech used 3 differing iPhones and 3 differing cables without any resolution to why this happens in all phones and cables. Waiting for VW Corporate to approve new Infotainment replacement.
My recent safety recall has been resolved by dealer for the software and door locks . Can you go-ahead and clear it from your end.
I was easing into a parking spot and braking when the car suddenly and uncontrollablly accelerated, leveling a light pole in front of me and finally coming to a stop on top of the light pole base
I was driving with Travel Assis on, the car steered left into the center divider then swerved right into other lanes… I was unable to regain control of steering wheel or break to deactivate travel assist for about 10 seconds, the steering wheel felt stuck in the direction that Travel Assist was steering to.

The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect.
While driving using the VW Travel Assist (lane keeping) system, the vehicle was unable to "see" the lane markings and Travel Assist disconnected. When this happens the display of the lanes changes from green to gray, but there is no warning. In the case where i was traveling about 30 MPH it took less than a second for the vehicle to steer off the road. The Adaptive Cruise Control remained engaged as the Travel Assist disengaged. Considering that VW has programmed in white and red warnings plus a sound to require the driver to control steering about every 10 seconds it seems to be minor addition to trigger those warning lights and sound if the Travel Assist disengages.
My car has experience Phantom braking 3 times. The automated braking system unexpectedly activated while I was driving out of my driveway and on to the street. There were no cars on the road when it happened. Another time it happened while I was backing out of my garage. It unexpectedly slammed the brakes. It is very scary when it happens because the body ricochets and it startles you and the car goes into park mode. The third time happened while I was driving in a crowded parking lot. I was moving like 5 miles an hour very slowly and it activated the automated braking system, there was a car behind me and I almost got rear ended. I just hope it doesn’t happen to me while I am driving on the freeway. I will be a very dangerous outcome.
Safety risk: Catastrophic tire failure at highway speed on 405 with child in vehicle Complete sidewall separation could have caused loss of vehicle control Life-threatening situation at highway speed Dealer confirmation: VW South Coast documented need for tire replacement on 9/18/24 (Invoice #VWCS659803) Dealer identified issue but declared vehicle safe to drive Set non-urgent follow-up date of 12/17/24 Prior warning: Dealer documented need for replacement 4 months before failure Failed to emphasize urgency of safety risk No dashboard warnings prior to catastrophic failure Documentation: Original dealer service records Photos of catastrophic failure Towing service records All email correspondence with VW
I am writing to express my growing concern regarding ongoing issues with my vehicle, specifically related to the recalls. Over the past year or two, I have contacted both the Libertyville and Palatine, Illinois dealerships numerous times for updates, but I have not received any meaningful responses or resolutions. Despite my repeated requests for repairs, I have been informed that the repairs cannot be made due to a national shortage. As a parent of two infants, I find the issues with the disappearing display and malfunctioning locks to be extremely dangerous. These safety concerns pose a significant risk to my family, and I urge you to prioritize this matter and provide a timely solution. I would greatly appreciate any updates on the availability of the necessary parts and an expedited repair process
My ID.4 was repaired to address the recall for the infotainment system rebooting (NHTSA recall number 24V344). Shortly after this repair i experienced two infotainment screen blackouts, one of which was recorded on video. These blackouts are not the system reboots that caused the recall (I experienced several of those between June and December 2024). In this case the map portion of the screen blacks out and is not responsive to any touch. this restricts use of navigation, reverse video for parking, and many other functions.
After NHTSA 919A been applied for my VW ID4, NHTSA Recall ID Number 24V875 was not properly addressed. 1 week after the recall completed by Centenial VW, I still have computer crash and blackout in the main dash and infotainment systems. I've shown these photos to David Lucero at Centenial VW service and he claims it was done properly. Attached is the photos.
My dealership, Westside VW in St. Louis Park, MN, has not completed my recalls in a reasonable amount of time. I scheduled an appointment two months ago to get this done and they canceled it the day before saying "they didn't have the parts." They said they'd call when the parts were in stock, approximately 1-2 weeks. That was 2 months ago and absolutely no communication from them.
Loud audible drive shaft noise usually found on a turn or after hitting a pothole. Dealership has not been able to identify and remedy the problem after 2 attempts on 12-27-24 and 1-3-25. Researching into this matter, I found many others in the community with these same problems (Reddit, VW User group, Facebook VW ID4 user group). I typed into the Google AI for why this problem exists, and it clearly shows this is an axle design flaw that cannot accommodate the weight of the car. I've attached this screenshot for your review. Concerned about a complete drive shaft failure causing an accident and injuries. VW not been able to resolve the problem for 2 months is another point of concern.
High speed sidewall blowout @ 70 mph. Right rear passenger tire. Less than 6000 miles. Had same issue on left rear tire at z out 5,000 miles in august 2024. I paid $1000 out of pocket in Rhode Island because local dealer did not have a replacement tire in stock and i could not wait as my vacation was ending. I sm afraid yo drive this car..
I have encountered 2 high speed blowouts on my Pirelli Scorpion tires. One in July 2024 and one in Dec 2024. Car has 6,000 miles on it. It has cost almost $1,600 to repair. Tires are not warrantied by VW. My dealership has opened a warranty claim with Pirelli with no response in 6 months. VW corporate will not get involved. I feel like i have a bad set of tires on my new car and i am afraid to drive it. I paid $46,000 for a car with nobody responsible for tire defects. Are there known issues with these tires? Who is responsible pirelli or VW.
For the second time in this car, I experienced sudden acceleration while parking (turning right). I had to slam the brakes to prevent hitting a parked vehicle, causing whiplash. No warning or safety features engaged. See NHTSA crash incident report 11593929. There are sufficient similar reports to warrant an investigation and hold VW accountable.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V651000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, there was an audible unlocking sound coming from the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated that on one occasion, the front driver’s side door independently opened while at a complete stop. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The dealer was made aware of the issue but was unable to schedule an immediate appointment. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed that parts were on backorder. The failure mileage was approximately 16,000. Parts distribution disconnect.
We have found that the carseat belt is fraying at the base of the seat rendering this seat unusable as it would not keep our daughter safe in the event of an accident. We have attempted to work with the manufacturer on a resolution for this defect however they will not take responsibility and claim that it is due to 'external environmental factors' but cannot provide a single example of what would have caused this. It appears that the belt is rubbing on the seat base when in use which resulted in the fraying. We have taken excellent care of the seat, use it properly, have have had it inspected upon install by a CPS technician. This is a clear defect and would like Evenflo to honor their warranty and take action on this defect. A quick search found that other parents have experienced this exact issue which is concerning as Evenflo had been made aware of multiple families impacted and even more babies using an unsafe product.
My ID.4 charging function is not working as it has has in the past: 1. the "plug to charge" function at Electrify America (uses the vehicle VIN to automatically activate the charging session and payment) worked previously and now does not work. I have attempted it at 14 different stations at two different locations of EA today (and it has not been working for the past few charging sessions at EA). 2. charging cable should automatically unlock when charging is complete (it is setup that way in the car and has worked in the past). To release requires pressing the unlock button on the remote 3 times or pull the manual release cord in the trunk of the car. 3. charging rates are abnormally low...about 70 kWh when the car usually charges at 100-160 kWh rate my concern is that the "CP" terminal and/or communications channel is faulty and could cause a serious error in charging rate, voltage or over-charging resulting in a fire or explosion, since that terminal controls those functions as well as "plug to charge". thus far i have not received sufficient response from the manufacturer's dealer on this issue (i do not believe they have the equipment to adequately test the physical connector on the car or the communications data stream).
Two problems. 1) the infotainment module cuts in and out. 2) Most important, the vehicle lunged ahead for no reason from a dead stop. We were lucky not to hit the truck in front of us. The vehicle is not safe to drive. VW corporate doesn't answer their phone and the dealer keeps giving us 800 numbers to try to contact them. What can we do?
The OEM heated windshield has a relatively common defect where there is extreme distortion in the glass along the passenger side edge of the windshield. This is obviously a safety issue because that area is key for visibility of pedestrians and bicyclists and other vehicles when making turns. The vehicle is currently at the dealer pending repair with no updates.
Both main panel and infotainments system of the vehicle are inoperable. No information on the vehicle is available when operating it such as speed/charge remaining/safety information such as engine lights/cameras, etc.
The vehicle has been inspected multiple times and had several software updates to fix the infotainment system. Unfortunately, the system still malfunctions restarting all the controls in the vehicle while driving. When this happens, the speedometer is unable to be accessed and driving becomes unsafe.
From purchase this vehicle’s passenger door/door handle have not function properly. One time the door opened without manipulating the door handle. Too many times to count the door handle is used to open the door, however, the door doesn’t open. The door opening spontaneously is obviously a safety concern. The door not opening when attempting to open it, could also be a safety concern if needing urgent egress. The second issue has been with the electrical system. Greater than five times the monitor and seemingly the entire electrical system goes blank. On two occasions this sent the car to “limp mode “. This is the safety concern due to it occurring in traffic.
The vehicle’s GPS/navigation system repeatedly misrepresents the vehicle’s physical location while driving. The defect includes incorrect vehicle positioning on the map display, including instances where the vehicle appears in incorrect geographic locations (including appearing in the middle of a river). While actively navigating, the system has recalculated routes incorrectly and changed estimated travel time from approximately two hours remaining to six hours, despite no change in route or conditions. This occurred during highway driving. The GPS malfunction also affects Apple CarPlay navigation when the phone is connected to the vehicle. When connected, the vehicle’s incorrect GPS data corrupts phone navigation routing. The defect further affects the vehicle’s heads-up display and traffic sign recognition system. The system has displayed incorrect speed limits (including displaying higher speed limits in lower-speed areas), which contributed to receiving a speeding citation. The issue makes reliable route planning and EV charging planning difficult or impossible during longer trips. The vehicle has been presented for repair three times. Dealership documentation verifies that the GPS and compass were incorrect. A technical case was opened with Volkswagen (Case RK-1536905), and I also opened multiple customer care cases on my own, to no avail. The vehicle was returned unrepaired with the statement that the concern is under review and no repair solution is currently available. The defect remains unresolved. This issue affects navigation accuracy, traffic sign recognition accuracy, and safe routing.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V651000 (Structure); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving approximately 10 - 20 MPH, the passenger’s side rear door unlocked and became slightly opened. The door closed from the momentum while driving; however, the contact pulled over to the side of the road and inspected the door and found no visible defects. The door was automatically locked and secured. Additionally, the infotainment screen was black while reversing and activating the back-over prevention camera. The contact also stated that the back-over prevention camera erroneously activated and remained displayed for an additional 10 - 15 minutes after the vehicle had been shifted into drive(D). The contact stated that the mileage had decreased significantly from 220 to 150 miles and the vehicle failed to display the level of charge for the battery. The dealer was contacted and was unable to provide an estimate for when parts for the recall repair would be available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 12,800. Parts distribution disconnect.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V651000 (Structure). The contact stated that on several occasions after receiving a car wash, the driver’s side door failed to open as intended from the outside. The contact stated that the door needed to be opened from the inside. Additionally, the contact stated that on several occasions, while occupants were seated in the rear seat, the passengers were unable to exit the vehicle. The contact stated that during the failure, the rear seat occupants climbed over the seats to exit the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was determined that the driver’s side door handle was faulty, and the door handle needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred months later. The vehicle was taken to another dealer; however, the failure could not be duplicated. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure was approximately 15,000.
I was backing my 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 into my very tight driveway very slowly to avoid hitting my other car parked on the street, my house and my neighbors house. The parking collision sensor alerted me that I was close to my other car but I can see out my window that I had room to clear it safely so I continued to back into my driveway at about 1 mile an hour. All of a sudden, my car made a click click noise as it lurched back and forth and then the car took over control and drove into my house about 20-30 feet at maybe 20 mph (not sure exactly but pretty fast) and crashed into my house and my neighbors house/gate. I pumped the brakes 2-3x but they did not work and the car continued driving into my house at that fast speed. I remember thinking omg, the car is not going to stop until it hit the house. No collision sensors went off during the automatic reverse acceleration and no manual nor auto emergency brakes were employed. Even though I pressed the brakes 2-3x, the ring video did not show brake lights (which isn't a surprise since they did not activate). There was a man that just walked his dog behind my car a minute before my car accelerated backwards. He would have been hit at 20mph 2 feet from my car. He is an eye witness to the incident and agreed that this was no way human error. If it were human error and I had accidentally pressed the acceleration pedal, I wouldn't have gone that fast on my super tight driveway and street and I also would have had plenty of time to press the opposite pedal to stop before hitting my own house. I haven't been able to get access to the "black box" yet to see what the car's computer says and haven't reached out to the dealer or VW as my insurance claim is still being processed. My house, my neighbor's gate and my car are badly damaged but am thankful nobody got hurt. I had not seen any indication before that something like this could happen. It was a sunny day, November 23, 2024 12:50pm.
I've had to replace the 12v battery in my ID.4 due to battery failure twice since I've owned it, and according to the service department at VW, the battery was replaced on delivery too. So that's a total of three batteries since it came off the production line. I'm also having issues with my doors handles not working properly and haven't been able to have the open recall performed on my vehicle due to backordered parts. It's been more than 6 months since the issue started and I still don't have any updates. The infotainment screen randomly blanks out while driving and is especially problematic when I'm backing the car up because the backup camera cuts out and is a huge safety issue. Lastly, the windows roll down when I press up on the switch which has caused a bunch of issues when driving in snow/rain. I was told it is due to an overly sensitive pinch monitor system and that there's no fix for it. All in all, I don't feel like I can trust the car and definitely don't feel safe driving it.
The electronic display has a recall. The display will just blackout at times leaving nothjng readable and not functionable. The collision warning systems constantly go off without anything being in our way causing the car to stop drastically causing passengers to experience severe jolting. This happens often. Door handle defects that are recalled. All recalled issues cannot be fixed according to VW. VW will not take back the car or buy back the car. They currently have a “no sell” on the id.4s and will not buy them back. We cant even get out of this car.
While driving the vehicles safety features automatically turn off and the screens in the car go blank and then come back on after a few minutes. When we contacted the dealer and the manufacturer we were told there was no fix and to just pull over and restart the car. The dealer told us to treat it like a cell phone that isn’t working and just turn it off and turn it back on.
Multiple times over the weekend of 11/16/2024 I attempted to put my vehicle into reverse as normal and the backup camera failed to initiate. I had to restart the car to remedy the situation. This is a different glitch than what I previously experienced with the screens going blank. I have contacted VW about these issues and thus far they have been unwilling to remedy the situation. This issue is a CLEAR safety risk as my son or other children playing in the driveway or street near this car are in danger without a functioning back up camera. In my case I refused to move the car until I was able to get the backup camera to engage. Sometimes this required multiple restarts of the car to stop the glitch.
Third time that the key fob was not found. Prior 2 times I was stationary. Third time I was in transit as the key fob was not detected. 30 seconds later the error message went away. Prior the car would not work or start without key fob detected. Concerning that the key fob would stop operation in the middle of the road as it has refused to operate for me in the past. 2nd time this happened, it forced me to uber back home to fetch another FOB, which did not resolve the issue. Not only did this cost me 1+ hour of time, I do not believe its a battery issue in the FOB. Both FOB are less than 10 months old. 2nd FOB did not work as well. Eventually the key was detected after some amount waiting period.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact stated that when the battery was charged to 80%, the vehicle could only be driven for less than 150 miles instead of the 270-275 miles as expected. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who was not able to diagnose a cause of failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 16,570.
My vehicle has been recalled due to a problem with the door handles. The dealership has been notified per the recall instructions, and they have told me the car is safe to drive and to wait for more information about the repair process.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notifications of NHTSA Campaign Numbers: 24V344000 (Back Over Prevention, Equipment, Electrical System) and 24V651000 (Structure); however, the parts to do the recall repairs were not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repairs. The contact had not experienced a failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
The rear passenger side door unlocked on its own . The display screen goes blank for approx 10-15 seconds while driving .
Whole assist package malfunctions on daily basis making the cruise, lane assist, front collision warning, sign recognition not possible to use.
I'm almost a year in a lease for this car. Made an appointment to take it in for the first service and then by word of mouth found out about the recalls, called to make sure they'd be able to fix the recalls and was told they would not be able to and so it was decided we'd wait to take it in for service when the fixes were available. That was on 9/6/2024. After searching my VIN with NHTSA - and only after that did I receive a recall notice and that is only for the door handles. I tried to contact VW per the instructions on the recall notice but contacting them via their website didn't work and the phone hold time was over an hour. I have experienced the software issue where everything goes blank including my speedometer and resets minutes later. We did go to a dealership and some of the conversation was that they can't sell the ID4 right now because of the recalls and the car is unsafe - Yet I am driving this car as my only mode of transportation.
I was arriving for an appointment and preparing to parallel park on the street. I was parking on a street in front of the office building, which is located on a corner. I observed the second and third vehicles parked from the corner were preparing to depart. I moved my vehicle slightly to the shoulder and activated my blinker to wait for the vehicles to leave. I idled next to the car parked at the corner to allow room for the departing vehicles to exit and for myself to pull in. Both vehicles pulled out of their parking spaces and into the street. I then proceeded to accelerate to pull into a parking spot. As two spots had opened, it was large enough for me to pull in forward without needing to parallel park by backing in. As I started to pull in, the vehicle’s automatic emergency braking system malfunctioned and erroneously engaged the brakes with violent force. An alarm sounded in the vehicle, a red warning flashed on the screen, and I was launched violently forward in my seat. The force with which the vehicle stopped made it seem as though I had hit something hard, like a wall. I quickly put the vehicle in park -- only halfway pulled into the parking spot -- and exited the vehicle to survey the situation. After circling the vehicle, it was clear that nothing had been hit and there were no obstructions in the road whatsoever. I returned to the driver’s seat and resumed parking. After pulling into the space, I put the vehicle into reverse to straighten out. Again, the vehicle’s braking system engaged without reason, though this time less violently and without the sound alarm and red warning. After parking, I exited the vehicle and took photographs of the area to document that there were no obstructions or anything else in the environment that would cause the system to believe there was an obstruction. Due to the malfunction, I sustained injuries consistent with whiplash -- pain, tightness, and inflammation along the left side of my neck and left shoulder.
The vehicle’s door handle malfunctioned twice, causing a door to open unexpectedly while driving at normal speeds. Small children were present as passengers during one of these incidents, increasing the risk of injury had the door opened fully or had another driver reacted suddenly to the open door. There were no warning lamps, audible alerts, or error messages before these occurrences. The handles and related components remain installed and could be made available for inspection upon request. Additionally, the dashboard display occasionally goes blank or glitches, making it impossible to read speed, warning indicators, or other critical information while driving. This issue occurs intermittently and does not seem to follow any specific pattern. No visible warning lamps or messages appear before the display malfunctions. These problems have been reported to an authorized dealer, who acknowledged known defects but indicated that no repairs or remedies are currently available. To date, the issues have not been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or other third parties, apart from the dealer’s acknowledgment. Without a functioning remedy, these malfunctions continue to present a safety concern, especially with young passengers onboard and limited access to essential driving information due to the dashboard failures.
When in the lowest position the seat has lots of vertical play to it. This can be felt when accelerating and braking, especially when braking or accelerating hard. The seat also makes loud creaking noises in the same conditions, at random intervals. These issues have been reproduced at the dealer, but I was told "not to keep my seat in the lowest position" which is my ideal driving position for maneuvering the vehicle and having adequate view of the mirrors and outside the vehicle. The seat has not been inspected by a service technician, only the service representative in a visual manner. No physical action has been taken to remedy the problem. It is also worth noting the passenger seat does not exhibit this issue. The creaking combined with the excess movement in the seat have me concerned for my safety in the event of a crash or emergency maneuver. Should the seat come loose, I could lose control of the vehicle, putting mine, and others', safety at risk. No warning lamps, tones or other symptoms have occurred.
The contact owns a 2023 Volkswagen ID.4. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V344000 (BACK OVER PREVENTION, EQUIPMENT, ELECTRICAL SYSTEM); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The local dealer was contacted. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated while driving on the highway at 55 MPH, the instrument panel became inoperable, and the vehicle independently started to decelerate. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and had the vehicle towed to the local dealer. The vehicle was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the failure was related to the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
1.What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The screen failed and went completely black while driving. It would not turn on again. The component is still installed in the vehicle and available for inspection upon request. 2.How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My wife and 1-year-old child were in the car with me on the freeway when the screen failed. This created a dangerous situation that could have led to a serious accident. 3.Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The issue is known to the manufacturer, but there is currently no remedy for it. 4.Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? Yes, the vehicle has been inspected by the dealer, but they are unable to provide a solution at this time. 5.Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the failure occurred.
There has been no update regarding the open recalls on the ID4 from Volkswagen. The 919A/24V344 recall is over 5 months old with no update from Volkswagen and the 57J9/24V651 recall for the door handles has no update from Volkswagen at all.
Hello, our vehicle doors frequently unlock on their own and there have also been times while we are in the vehicle where we try to unlock the doors and they won’t unlock. I am worried about getting locked in the car, or having the doors open while driving. The windows also have automatically all rolled down with no one engaging with the vehicle. There is a concern for the safety of the belongings in the car. And I’m now generally worried about other electrical malfunctions. We have brought these issues to our VW dealer twice and they cannot reproduce them or fix them. There are no warning lights for these issues. I know there are new recalls for this vehicle, but VW has no estimated time as to when they will be ready. I feel very unsafe in this vehicle.
As I was driving, the infotainment screen went black and Apple CarPlay stopped playing. As this happened, the driver’s information screen still worked but changed to grey scale colors. After about 4 minutes of the infotainment screen being black, the driver’s info screen also went black. This continued for about one more minute when both screens rebooted on their own.
The door handle is an electronic button with a manual lever for the door to open in case there is no power or an emergency when a rescuer needs to open the door. I noticed only 1 door handle could do this and brought in for repair. The rest requires a lot more strength and 3 of the 4 doors work, but the dealership is reluctantly replacing the failed door handle. There are many who have the same issue but many who aren’t aware the potential danger during an emergency.
While driving on a freeway the screens recently went fully blank on the car consistent with the open recall software issues. In addition I recently put my car in reverse and the rear view camera failed to load in a timely manner. I have contacted VW dealer and corporate to initiate a buy back but have heard nothing from either party and any attempt to repair these conditions.
